|Course Description:||PACS 108 is an introduction to the histories, cultures, arts, and politics of the Pacific region also known as Oceania.
Goals of this course:
To emphasize specific learning skills, including communication skills, writing skills, and skills of critical judgment necessary for future employment opportunities.
To use word processing, presentation software, and other computerized technologies to prepare students for careers in a complex and technologically demanding world.
To gain civic and historical knowledge, critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and communication skills as prerequisites for personal growth and participation in a free democracy, regardless of career choice.
To attain insights into why other cultures are as they are and why we are culturally as we are -- to better understand the cultural problems of contemporary human existence.
To provide an analysis of the range of variation and degree of uniformity in human behavior as revealed through comparative study.
To present a general introduction to Pacific Islands Studies.
This PACS 108 class section meets the DS core requirement, as well as, the WI and HAP focus requirements.

|Technical Requirements:||This PACS 108 class section is conducted on the Internet.
The Internet allows students to take a course at home using a personal computer, or at any UH or public computer lab. Familiarity with using a computer and basic Internet skills (browsing, sending e-mail, saving/sending files) is required. Students must have access to a computer with Internet capabilities. In this online course, students are not required to log in at a specific day or time. Students taking an online course should always contact their instructor after registration or prior to the first day of class to get detailed information regarding the course.
