Course Prerequisites: ENG 100
Course Description: Surveys Hawaiian literature, including prose narration and petry with reference to Polynesian and world themes and forms from pre-contact to discovery. Introduces a full range of Hawaiian stories, chants, poems, songs, and sayings which have been translated into English.
Textbooks: Books may be purchased at the Maui Community College bookstore or ordered online at http://www.bookstore.hawaii.edu/maui/home.aspx. If you do not have access to the Internet or unable to travel to the bookstore, you may also order by phone at 1-800-UHBOOKS
Technical Requirements: Cable allows students to take a course at home. To enroll in a cable course, students must subscribe to Oceanic Time Warner Cable to view the higher education access channel:

Oahu County: Olelo channel 55
Maui County: MCCTV channel 55
Hawaii County: Na Leo O Hawaii channel 55
Kauai County: Hoike channel 55

Before registering for the course, prospective students should check with their cable provider or programming line-up to verify they can view the education cable access channel at their home. If student resides in a region of their county that is unable to receive the educational cable access channel listed above, the student should not register for this course via cable.

It is recommended that students videotape the broadcast of their class sessions in case they are unable to view it during the scheduled broadcast time. Students should be familiar with setting the timer on their VCR to record.
