Course Description:
This course is an archaeological survey coursthat details the archaeology of complex societies, including the rise of urbanism, state-level societies in Asia and North/South America. The secondary rise of states in the Mediterranean, Europe, and Asia will be examined as will complex societies (chiefdoms) in North America (Pacific Northwest, Southeast, Southwest) and the diaspora of humans into the Pacific. Historic and industrial archaeology will be examined in Europe, North America, Asia, and the Pacific as well as the archaeology of colonialism.
