Course Prerequisites: College level reading, math, writing skills. Must be able to view cable
broadcasts.
Course Description: Closed captioned.

GG 101 includes 30, one-hour video programs based on the series "Earth Revealed," a production of the Southern California Consortium. Assignments include 4 exams taken at home and a written report about a self-guided field trip. Take a tour of planet Earth through this introductory college-level geology course. Students learn about the Earth's physical environment: plate tectonics and other internal
processes, earthquakes, mountain building, rocks, minerals, volcanoes,
landscape development, and man's relationship with Earth's hazards and
resources. Examine how interacting geological systems impact the Earth and
the environment and how our everyday activities are linked to acts of
nature.

4 exams taken at home. Homework project includes a self-guided tour.
Textbooks: Books may be purchased at the Honolulu CC bookstore or ordered online at http://www.bookstore.hawaii.edu/hcc/home.aspx. If you do not have access to the Internet or unable to travel to the bookstore, you may also order by phone at 1-800-UHBOOKS

Technical Requirements: *Must be an Oceanic Time Warner Cable subscriber. UHTV programming is not available on satellite TV systems.

*Oceanic Time Warner Cable Digital TV subscribers may view UHTV programming on channel 355.

*Oceanic Time Warner Cable Digital TV subscribers may also view state-wide cable classes on the UH VOD channel 358. Must have a digital cable box to access VOD channel.

*Oceanic Time Warner Cable Standard or Basic TV subscribers
-that own an HD Television with a QAM tuner, may view UHTV programming on channel 46.55 (27.55 for Maui County).
-that do not have an HD Television, may contact the Oceanic Cable Customer Service Center at (808) 643-2100 to find out how to get a digital cable box free of charge for so long as you maintain your existing analog service subscription. Some restrictions apply.

Online Component
Course may also include an online component. Familiarity with using a computer and basic Internet skills (browsing, sending e-mail, saving/sending files) is required. Students must have a computer with Internet access and a UH email account. Check with your instructor for more information.
