Course Description:
ED 123 integrates and builds upon the competencies in ED 122. Students will apply what they have learned in ED 122 to gain a comprehensive understanding of the teaching profession and the field of education. ED 123 will provide students with the psychological foundations of education and various learning theories when working with diverse learners in the classroom. An overview of a learner’s cognitive, physical, social, and moral development and how it influences his/her learning will be introduced. Students will explore how learners’ cultural values and beliefs play a role in their learning, and debate contemporary issues of diversity in the classroom. Effective teaching and behavioral approaches for different learners will be discussed and implemented. Students will learn how to create and manage positive learning environments, and implement lessons plans for diverse learners. The use of appropriate assessments and the impact of modern technologies on students’ learning will be addressed.
