Course Prerequisites: In person attendance required at one of the participating locations listed
Course Description: To understand the principles, ethics, and current issues involved in bilingual interpreting in the courts today. Discussions include the legal system (civil vs. criminal proceedings), ethical issues and theoretical principles, and the practice of legal interpretation, different modes of interpreting (simultaneous, consecutive, & sight) and their contexts; (d) the role of the interpreter; (e) linguistic, psycholinguistic (information processing) and cross-cultural aspects; (f) professional issues.
