Course Description: This is an on-line version of CEE 330 Environmental Engineering that is required as part of the ABET-accredited, BSCE degree at UH Manoa (please see the UH Manoa catalog and the CEE website for more information). CEE 330 includes a Laboratory section which carries an additional credit (4 total). CEE 330 also has a W Focus (Writing Intensive). The on-line version does not include the laboratory section or the W, and therefore, UHM students are would generally NOT be advised to take this course except under special circumstances. However, out-of-state and/or international students may be interested in general and engineering students may be able to use these credits toward their own degree program. Please check on that with your home institution.

Description: Junior-level required course. The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to the environmental specialty area of Civil Engineering and the technical foundation needed for the required senior environmental course (CEE 431: Water and Wastewater Engineering). This involves teaching fundamental concepts such as materials and energy balances, chemical reaction kinetics, reactor models, and the parameters and indices of environmental quality; as well as common applications such as water, wastewater, and air pollution control, and solid and hazardous waste management. Students will be introduced to some of the various areas of environmental engineering practice.

Technical Requirements: The Internet allows students to take a course at home using a personal computer. Familiarity with using a computer and basic Internet skills (browsing, sending e-mail, saving/sending files) is required. Students must have a computer with Internet access. Depending on the online course, students may be required to log in at a specific day and time or at anytime. Students taking an online course should always contact their instructor after registration or prior to the first day of class to get detailed information regarding the course.

Additional Notes: Please note that tuition for extension term classes is charged per credit and is NOT included in Fall/Spring semester tuition. Students receiving UH Manoa financial aid should contact Financial Aid Services (808-956-7251 or finaid@hawaii.edu) before registering for extension term classes to assure that their financial aid package will cover these classes.
