Course Prerequisites: In person attendance required at one of the participating locations listed
Course Description: Introduction of the principles, ethics, and current issues involved in bilingual interpreting in the courts today. Discussions include the legal system (civil vs. criminal proceedings), ethical issues and theoretical principles, the different modes of interpreting (simultaneous, consecutive, & sight) and their contexts; the role of the interpreter, linguistic challenges, glossary building, and professional issues.
