| Course Description: | ITS 129 is an introduction to databases. The course covers the tools needed to query and modify database objects. The course also introduces the student to database design concepts. A substantial part of the course involves the understanding of the relationship
between databases, tables, records and fields. The course includes hands-on use in a computer environment that provides the students with experience designing, creating, and manipulating a database using the appropriate information technology tools. This ITS 129 class section (34214) is conducted on the Internet. This class section has a 16-week schedule and is not self-paced. |
| Textbooks: | Students buying a used text or ordering one online which does not include the license will be required to purchase the program.

| Technical Requirements: | For ITS courses use a lot of technology. Students need to be able to access course related technologies outside their classroom. This may require Internet access, proprietary software access (e.g. Microsoft Office 2010 on Windows PC), and/or specific hardware specifications to successfully use course applications. SimNet is a required tutorial and homework application for this course. A license for its use is included with each new textbook purchased from KCC Bookstore. Students buying a used text or ordering one online which does not include the license will be required to purchase the program.
The Internet allows students to take a course at home using a personal computer. Familiarity with using a computer and basic Internet skills (browsing, sending e-mail, saving/sending files) is required. Students must have a computer with Internet access. Depending on the online course, students may be required to log in at a specific day and time or at anytime. Students taking an online course should always contact their instructor after registration or prior to the first day of class to get detailed information regarding the course.
