The B. A. in East Asian Languages and Literatures is offered with four areas of concentration: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Korean for Professionals.  The major is designed to provide training in advanced language skills, as well as studies of literature, linguistics, and culture of the selected area.  It aims to foster the broad cross-cultural competence necessary for those intending to pursue careers related to East Asia.  In addition to the B. A. program, there are the Minor programs (except Korean for Professionals), and the Certificate programs.

If students take equivalent courses in the regular and oral tracks (e.g., JPN 101 and 111),  both grades are recorded in the transcript, but only one set of credits may count toward degree requirements. For students on financial aid or receiving Veterans Affairs benefits, the credit adjustment may affect the amount of aid or benefits received.
