Financial Support
All degree programs offered by EALL are recognized Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE) regional undergraduate programs. Residents of Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming are eligible, upon admission, to enroll at Hawai`i resident tuition rates.

Red Mandarin and Lady Yi-Suen Shen Scholarship in Chinese Language
The Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, University of Hawaii at Manoa, is happy
to announce the Red Mandarin and Lady Yi-suen Scholarship in Chinese Language for full-time students
(Hawaii residents) who are undergraduate Chinese language majors at the University of Hawaii for 2008-2009.
The scholarship covers tuition for the academic year, and will be awarded to a degree candidate who
demonstrates exceptional promise and achievement and who meets the criteria in the
attached document.
Deadline: Monday, March 3, 2008.
The James T. Araki Scholarship for Japanese Literary Studies
The James T. Araki Scholarship for Japanese Literary Studies aims to foster the development of Japanese
literature studies at the University of Hawai‘i at Mânoa by providing financial support to qualified
students who demonstrate outstanding performance and potential in the study of Japanese literature.
The scholarship was established by his son Dale Araki in honor of the late Dr. James T. Araki, Professor
Emeritus of Japanese Literature, in the Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures (EALL) at
the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa (UHM). Professor Araki was an internationally renowned specialist
in Japanese literature of the medieval and early modern periods, and was a leading figure in Japanese
literary studies at UHM until his retirement in 1984. For more information, please view the

K.S. Cheng Memorial Scholarship
The purpose of the K.S. Cheng Memorial Scholarship fund is to provide assistance to undergraduate or
graduate students enrolled in the Colleges of Arts & Sciences. These awards are made possible by Mrs. K.S.
Cheng to commemorate the late Mr. Cheng’s accomplishments and commitment to contribute to community needs.
Mr. Cheng was a successful entrepreneur who dearly valued education. See the application
