11. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
|
| The book and homework assignments. |
| creating our own assessments |
| Going through all the chapters and reviewing the information afterwards. |
| The group projects helped me understand what goes into an assessment. |
| Although I'm not a education major, the material covered was very valuable in the field of speech pathology because giving assessments is very common in that field. |
| Groupwork |
| Reading the book and taking the quizzes and essays.
Many classes we ended early by 6 or 6:30 p.m. Some topics we cover material outside of the text or
used material to illustrate the points in the text. That was most helpful. I would like more of that
incorporated into the class instead of getting out early.
More time towards the end of the semester in the end of class to work on the project. |
| This area is very new to me so I felt I learned a lot about assessments. The content has made me think about how I currently assess my students, so I consider this a good thing. I have also shared what I have learned with others. |
|
|
12. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
|
| The lecture only covered what was in the book. The instructor did not provide any extra
information. |
| the textbook was not the best |
| The quizzes and essays after each chapter. |
| Some topics were very redundant. |
| I think the class lectures were too similar to the homework that was due the previous day,
especially since everything was taken directly from the text. It didn't feel like there was enough
variety of materials in the course.
I also don't think the textbook website was valuable for the class. It was so easy to cheat; for
the weeks that I didn't have enough time, I was able to just look up the answers for the essays or
short-answers and get the right answers. But regardless of the easy accessibility of answers, the
text was helpful but the website was not. I do not think it was a good supplement and would
have rather learned in another form, such as making our own portfolios or multiple-choice
questions. The course is about assessments, so it would have been a good learning experience
had we been able to make the assessments that we learned. |
| Reviewing the information before we read and again after we read. I would prefer to just review
after reading.
The last class and second to the last class we had two chapters and essays to finish. It is really hard
to have this double homework, work on the class project as well as other classes all at the end of
the semester. Double homework in the middle would be much easier to handle. |
| Sometimes the lack of discussion. The teacher tried to make all of us discuss but sometimes other students in the class were not very motivated.
I disliked the fact that some of my classmates would type on their laptops (about something i am sure had nothing to do with the class) or use the whole class period to text message.
I truly believe that we could have benefitted from more inclass discussion. |
