13. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Everything but I particularly enjoyed doing the Practicums the most, being an online course and yet still being able to do a lab was a great experience and really assisted in my learning for the material.
Although this was an online course, I really liked the comradery amongst my classmates and our instructor. Our weekly discussions with one another really helped me grasp the concepts that we were learning.
Gives a basis which will help set up to be successful in other sociology courses.
The discussions were most valuable, because it helped to know how my classmates were understanding the material.
Professor Edwards was very thoughtful in letting students know ahead of time of upcoming assignments and when they were due. Helpful throughout the course!
Edwards responses to our discussion forums usually carried a useful level of insight and helped me understand the topic matter better.
Discussion boards
The quizzes really helped me put the information I learned into effect.
The practicums and extra credit forum were most valuable to me. I was able to apply the concepts to these activities and explore interesting studies and their issues.
Learning the steps in order to conduct proper research.
Learning about different methods in research were interesting. I got to learn about society more and looking at it from a different perspective.
The quizzes which studying for really helped me learn more about the class, and the discussion board assignments where I was able to interact with my classmates.
The course was laid out well, Dr. Q was in communication at all times, and he has a great way of describing the subject so you understand.

26. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I feel Quincy Edwards did a great job teaching this class. He made the assignments interesting and the class as a whole was very enjoyable.
I thought the way the course was set up was a great system in which allowed for good time management.
The work load was a bit overwhelming. 5 quizzes, 5 practicums and a major research paper was sort of rough along with the weekly discussions but it was do able.
Great as is.

I wouldnt change a thing. Great course great instructor.
Perhaps being able to choose from multiple questions to answer for the chapter's discussion may produce a more diverse discussion and cover more concepts.
Quincy Edwards offered a great course and I am unable to point out any improvements needed.

13. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The organization was on point. Everything was let known to the students and we had all the tools we needed in order to succeed.
The topics of all of our readings, assignments, and discussions were interesting and important, but I think the Job Portfolio was especially useful because it helped us learn highly applicable information about our future careers and prompted us to think deeply and realistically about our preferred occupations.
Researching my possible future careers in depth and looking at the future employment opportunities was really helpful. Everything that had to do with the Job Portfolio was just really interesting and beneficial to my future job. I also appreciated Professor Edwards quick grading/feedback and how organized his course was. I thought the quizzes were appropriate and the extra credit was useful. I learned so much about the sociology of work by being able to relate to the course material. Great course that I would recommend!
Open discussion about each chapter
The most valuable aspect of this course involved the assignments that made us research our future career.
All the readings and assignments.
Dr. Edwards professionalism and the discussions
I greatly appreciated Quincy Edwards efforts in providing flexibility for study and assignments that accommodated my work/family schedule. The most valuable aspect of this course was the fact that Professor Quincy provided numerous resources throughout our chapter discussions. Professor Quincy provided us with different perspectives of work analysis that allowed me to develop a greater understanding and an easier time reflecting on discussion questions. Professor Quincy definitely went above and beyond my expectations of this course. I personally would register for another course that Professor Quincy is teaching. I highly recommend this class!
The weekly discussions that were based on covered materials and articles allowed for a better understanding.
What I found most valuable in this course is the discussion session. Although this is an online class, but the discussion board gives me a chance to learn from others rather than just completing assignment over assignment. The discussion environment is also awesome, everyone seems friendly and knowledgeable and respectful!
Great class, all aspects were valuable.
I like that Professor Edwards tried to engaged within the discussions by not only replying to students posts but also posting other related topics for us to learn more.
The fact that it's online and it's structure is very easy to follow.
Quincy's communication with his students throughout the entire course added tremendous value. By being able to talk with him about assignments and quizzes really made the course worth taking. I learned so much from him.
14. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Everything was good. The best online course I've taken.
The reading quizzes were perhaps less valuable in terms of direct applicability to our lives, but I support keeping them because they were still a relevant and necessary component of the course. They provided incentive to keep up with the assigned reading and pay attention to important concepts.

I honestly thought parts of the Job Portfolio could have been skipped. The websites that we needed to use were kind of difficult to understand making the evaluations for occupations hard to navigate around. Especially for those who are still unclear what they want to do after they graduate.

I dont know. I have nothing to complain about.
He can improve the teaching of this course by giving occasional brief feedback on some of our writing assignments so that we know what he thinks and whether weâ??re on the right track.
Nothing! He is a fantastic teacher that wants his students to be successful and learn in a fun manner.
I think he is great. I have learned so much from this course. Thank you very much!

13. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
research
Personally all of them. I'm a psychology and sociology major and I love a perspective of psychology that combines both. Every aspect of this class was valuable and significant to me specifically.
I really valued the discussion questions and forum. It allowed me to not only post my ideas, but it also allowed me to read other people's ideas. I also liked it when the professor posted extra questions within the forum for us to answer.
Professor Edwards is instinctively fast at replying to students' questions, responses in discussion boards, and emails. He is extremely helpful and always challenges students to dig deeper into the course material and critically think about each question in our discussion boards. I loved the discussion boards because he made the topics interesting while still relating to the course material. I hate to admit it, but I would even look forward to completing the next discussion board every week. He made discussions intriguing, and made me re-evaluate how I thought about certain situations. This course was definitely the best online course I have ever had.
explaining thoughts
Each weeks assignments helped to focus on new topics, but also build upon topic discussed or used from previous weeks. Also, bringing in real world example to help give better context to the material we were learning was very helpful and very engaging. Despite being an online class, the format helped to keep it an engaging experience with both the instructor and classmates.

The convenience of the online course.
I learned plenty in this course that I never thought or considered before. I liked Prof. Quincy's style of teaching as he plays devil's advocate and challenging us to think more and consider other ideas in the discussions. I like the extras he adds because it makes him feel more connected to the class even though it's online.
I really enjoyed the discussion posts. I felt that reading the opinions of others really helped me understand the chapters much better.
Professor provided a lot of valuable knowledge and information towards the course and also made is easy to understand, especially being a online course.
14. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
N/A
I don't have anything negative to say about the course.
All aspects played a part in my learning survey methodology.
I honestly can't think of any part of this course to be "least valuable"...everything we did in this course was productive.

26. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
N/A
This was my first time taking an online course, so I didn't know what to expect. However, I think he did a great job!
I really liked having more questions to answer. It allowed me to expand my knowledge and think about different aspects of the course or even to go back and re-read sections of the book that I might have missed. I think Professor Edwards did a great job asking us questions in the discussion section.
Seriously he does an amazing job at teaching this course online! I legitimately can't think of any improvements.
Explaining more in details
This was by far the best online class I have taken. I am not sure how to have improved the teaching in this class. I would like to commend Dr. Edwards on creating an engaging and thorough learning experience, especially in a condensed time period over the summer.
Quincy did a great job. He doesn't need improvement.

Change absolutely nothing.
I would have liked to see more videos to see what some of the research techniques we saw looks like in action or for extra discussion with certain chapters.

I loved that the course was interactive rather than just doing everything on our own.
This is a great course, and it's an excellent contribution to my knowledge of the field of sociology. I think it will be valuable in my future careers.
Isn't it ironic that we are completing a survey for our course, "Analysis in Survey Research" ... :)
Overall a great experience. Format of the online class was quite well thought out and gave opportunities for myself to conduct work regularly to keep my learning experience engaged, but also with enough time for myself to focus on other tasks in my life. In addition, regardless of online/in-person, the class was set up in a way that helped me learn the content very efficiently and effectively. I took this class to learn more about survey research (I had a very vague view before) and will come away feeling like I have accomplished that and would be comfortable applying what I have learned to other situations in school or in other contexts as well.

I enjoyed this online class. Everything was straight to the point and extremely organized. I loved the side reading. I thought he picked extremely interesting researches to use as an example. I would recommend him to other students.
This online course reached all it's goals and I would recommend other students to take it!

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Practicums. I hate to bring more work upon myself but more of these would have been beneficial.
I enjoyed the discussion questions every week!!
I really enjoyed the content and understanding of this course.
all were valuable aspects.
The discussion forums and quizzes.
The practicums were great at giving real-world application to the concepts and practices we were learning about.
course readings
Discussions were helpful at understanding concepts.
The discussion post not only helped me learn course material, but also helped my writing skills. It taught me to be thoughtful, clear, and concise. Whereas, before I tended to be wordy.
The discussions really helped to keep you on top of the readings and I appreciated that. It was also nice to be actively involved in such a big debate every week, something not every course will allow you in Manoa.
The discussion board provided me a chance to participate in a intellectual dialoge that promoted articulate opinions. I feel the format improved my writing and helped me formulate my opinion in the most accurate way. Also the Professor's feedback and participation in the discussion forums was invaluable.
The quizzes were good.
Quincy Edwards was very knowledgable of the course materials.
Quincy's explanations of topics in the discussions.
The amount of work is decent, the grading system is extremely fair so if you were to fail this course then you would know the student was simply not trying. He shows a decent amount of leniency and he is extremely understanding. The discussion portion should not change at all. So helpful, fun and interactive. The quizzes and exams gave you two attempts. If you took them early, it would allow you time to go back and restudy portions you were weak on. That is also super helpful.
The chapter discussions were the most interesting as we got to discuss the main topic areas with other classmates. For an online class, this group interaction is very valuable and kept my interest throughout the semester.
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
The timing of assignments. Everything was bunched in the end.
I found the Practinums to be very hard (some not all) but that is just something that I needed to work harder on.

The three responses to classmates in discussion. There was not substance to the responses. Most times, classmates just said "good job". It lacked facilitation of constructive conversations.
None.
For me some of the practicums felt a little tedious and dry.
The Practicums were kinda long.
There were way too many large assignments, especially the last few weeks of class. It puts unnecessary stress on students when we are trying to study for finals and do other homework and projects.
Commenting on other people's discussion comments was not usually informative.
Nothing. I took the most I could get out of this course.

Quincy is an amazing instructor and it is evident in our discussions. He is able to bring interesting events into our discussions that help us better understand the material. I am glad I took this course. :-)
I recommend Quincey Edwards because he is a great and understanding Professor! Whenenever I needed help he always responded to my emails right away.
Very good class and look forward to taking another course by you in the Fall semester.
Great professor, very knowledgable in course content.
Thanks! Highly recommend Dr. Edwards as a teacher. I've never taken an online course before and it flowed really well.
I really appreciated the organization in this course. Becauase it is one that requires so much work, things could have easily slipped through the cracks but because Professor Edwards made a point to keep exceptionally organized, offers extra credit to those who wish to do it, and keeps the students updated on the work required and their current grades he really makes it impossible not to get an A. Great course. I am glad I took it online and with this professor.
In my opinion the Professor is doing a fantastic job. I'm very satisfied with the level of understanding I have about the subject after taking this course.
Good teacher, too much homework, too many projects, not enough time to do them all.
Professor Edwards is one of the best professors I have ever had the opportunity of learning from. That says a lot considering that I am currently taking his course online and have never had the chance to meet him. He is extremely supportive and understanding. He facilitates more than enough in the course discussions and goes above and beyond in all aspects of this course. You can tell he takes great pride in his work and that he is readily available to help students learn. He is there for his students and not just the paycheck. This also says a lot when discussing certain professors.
This was my favorite class this semester for the area I am focusing on is Social Work. Having this sociology class with Professor Edwards broadened my knowledge about research methodology and techniques. The information gained from this course was relevant to my career goals and my current work. I will recommend this class highly to my fellow colleagues because I gained a lot this semester from Professor Edwards.

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I think responding to each other was the most valuable, and that Professor Edwards responded with follow-up information too. You get to see different viewpoints and learn a lot more. A lot of teachers don't take the extra time to respond back to students when conducting online courses.
Everything in this course is valuable. The way professor Edwards conducts his course should not change at all. It is at its optimum for any online course. He allows us two attempts at our quizzes and exams. He allows make up for lack of discussion in one thread by allowing a more interactive discussion in another thread. In terms of discussion, he is the most realistic professor out there. We may not have much to say for one discussion but a lot to say for another so he takes that into account.
Quincey Edwards is a fair teacher that allows us to gain as much points possible. He is very understanding and realistic instructor.
with the help of this course, I was able to narrow down the careers that I was interested in as well as all the aspects that came from it.I was able to research qualifications, the wages, and what the job would entail.
All of the material was useful especially to apply for the future.
He really applied the subjects to our own lives and then gave back great feedback and comments in our discussions.
I thought that the discussion forums were valuable because I was able to learn a lot from my peers.
The readings and it being online
The online blogs. I felt that they really taught me a lot and the interaction and discussions we had with other classmates helped out a lot as well. I liked it!
The daily life examples provided. The ability for Professor Edwards to communicate and instill confidence was refreshing for a distance education course; he made it so that as I student I felt as if I wanted to interact with my classmates just like I would in a classroom setting. He posted very interesting examples of current events and the organization and expectations were clear-something I tremendously value in distance education so that I am able to plan my studying.
Discussions were the most useful tool because it allowed us to share our thoughts
Learning how to function most effectively with everyone in a work environment was very valuable because it is an area that we will eventually have to face sooner or later in life. Also, researching our career paths was highly useful.
forums and interactions, and the tests were set up in a way that encouraged better learning and retainment of material
That we got to apply everything we have learned into our assignments

Great course! Really interesting topic and the structure of the class was planned really well.
One of the most down to earth professors hands down. I would definitely take any course that he is teaching. He facilitates the learning and does more than many of the professors that I know. Great professor.
I would recommend this course with this instructor. Awesome material and instructor.
Amazing professor!

I felt that I had no feedback on my progress. Although I had a good grade for most assignments, I wasn't sure if I was getting credit just for doing the assignment or because I had a decent answer.
mahalo for a well organized and great class. You made it much more enjoyable and easier to learn and loved how onit you are in getting assignments out, grades back, feedback.... awesome teacher
Quincy was a great professor. He had a great outline of the class and made a online class much more enjoyable and fun to take. he gives us great extra credit chances.

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I appreciated the class discussion. Professor Edwards was key in keeping the discussions going, which I am sure can be difficult with online students. The practicums were also very valuable.
The class discussions were most valuable because it displays everyones thoughts
I enjoyed the weekly discussions and input from peers and the professor in a more relaxed setting.
Weekly discussions kept the class on track and participating weekly.
Nice refresher course in inquiry and research
Practicums
I found that the practicums were very challenging but useful to ensuring that students actually understood the course material. It is important especially in this course to understand the concepts in practice and not just on paper.
I thought that the application of theories discussed throughout the course was most valuable.
Very easy to get into contact with. this proved to be very useful.
The requirements of the online course were very challenging and required development of new skills and perspectives. The instructor was the most valuable part of the class. The discussion questions and guiding comments helped develop a more complete understanding of complex concepts introducted in the text as applied to our society. This type of instruction demands tremendous effort so students get meaningful feedback and this professor is very motivating and accomplished. This course was taken because of the quality received and knowledge gained from a previous course. As before, this course exceeded my expectations. The tests, practicums and assignments are far from easy. Anyone passing this course ethically, earned it fairly. Syllabus and instructions are clear and help requested is usually immediate. Please give this professor quality vacations and do whatever is needed to keep him. Thank you.
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
the assignments are too heavily piled into the last month of the semester. they should be spread out more.
Discussion boards
I found class discussions to not really spark much thought. It was one or two good comments, but for the most part, it didn't really help me to further understand the material or to push me to think harder about the topics.
There were no aspects that were of no value in this course.
didnt particularly like the very theory based course content
Your online library search for reference materials is convoluted as compared to KCC. It needs to be easier to navigate or you end up circling and giving up.

23. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
He does a great job!
distribute the assignments more evenly throughout the semester.
I can honestly not think of one thing that would improve this course, everything was extremely fair.
I think that discussions are a little difficult. Mostly because the concepts can be quite hard to understand, and that makes it difficult to engage in conversation with other students about it. You did make an effort to help understand the material, but discussions were definitely disheartening for me at times.
I think that he needs to just keep doing what he's doing. This course is a great alternative for students who can't fit the actual class into thei4 course schedule.

Course probably could have been a little tougher for a 300 level course, but the fact that methods class was not boring is a tribute to the Professor!
Prof. Quincy is a good instructor.
By far one of the best teachers I have ever had at UH. I think that A LOT of other teacher could learn from Professor Edwards. Not only was his class extremely organized and prompt, but Edwards was extremely generous in reaching out to those who needed/asked for help in the class. Assignments were graded fairly and returned quickly. Gradebook in Laulima was always up to date. Quick responses to emails. Awesome teach; will definitely, and already have, referred other students to take his class.
Professor Edwards shared his expertise in other fields to expand sociological examples to the current, relevant experiences of his students. This was a welcome bonus!

The posting of assignments 10 days before the due date and the weekly postings were very helpful in keeping track of what assignments were due when.
Talks of workplace ethics and sexual harassment. Also the job portfolio.
I liked the real life stories we read about.
quincy is very kind and his class is fun. Its very straight forward and easy to follow. quincy will help you if you need it and also gives you ample time to finish your work
I feel that this class is related to the everyday life of a person who has a job. It was very informative about the social job structure and the background information through a company.
I really like the Job Portfolio discussion assignments.
The Textbook and other reading material held the most value for me.
I think the class discussions are very valuable, it give everyone a chance to give their opinion and hear the opinions of others
The lecture notes followed by the discussion questions-they both tied in to together and helped with understanding of the material
Best online class I've ever taken. Edwards was so responsive and quick with grading!
i really liked the job portfolio
I liked that Prof Edwards challenged our ideas and forced us to thinking critically
The job-portfolio assignments
Discussions were the most valuable because it gave us the opportunity to interact with other students and the professor. A lot of extra credit opportunities to boost grade.
I really enjoyed this course. I liked that the job portfolio was broken down into different parts.

23. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I think he can improve the teaching of the course if he could hold an online chat session. Possibly once a week for an hour or two in which we can all go on and ask each other questions in a live setting.
I love it! :D

I think what is available is working
Nothing,
Quincy is an awesome teacher and he should just keep doing what he does! no improvement needed, honestly!
I thought the assignments were good enough :) I really liked the extra credit opportunities and felt they were inspiring.
Quincy is an excellent online teacher (haven't had him in class)

Great teacher who is available to speak to and helps out when the student needs it. He is understanding to real life situations that happen to occur.
Thank you so much! you really are a great teacher and you are very passionate about your classes. You seem to really be organized and always willing to help in any way possible. You are very to the point and i love that!
Professor Quincy is a great online teacher. He is very organized and interacts with the students. He goes the extra mile as a teacher, and it is clear that he is knowledgable about the subjects being covered.
so organized
This is my second time taking this professor in a online course, and I must say everything from how all his courses are structured to the flexibility of course deadlines works out really well. I learned a lot from his discussions, powerpoint slides, and readings. Best professor to have for an online course by far, and I would definitely take his courses again if this wasn't my last semester.

I don't really have any improvements for Professor Quincy. He is so organized and he keeps up with his assignments and makes sure that all of us are on the same page. The most valuable aspect of this course was learning the rules about conducting research. It was nice to hear that there are agencies that protect people when research is conducted! Awesome! People first!
discussion posts and quizzes. also your quickness in responding back to us.
The written assignments, weekly discussions, and up to date grades.
The professor Mr. Edwards is the biggest and best asset to this course. His teaching style, of Outreach courses, is ideal and should be replicated by other instructors. He is by far the most involved, present, and invested instructor at the Outreach College that I have encountered so far.
The discussion posts helped with learning and understanding the concepts.
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
n/a
Needing to respond to fellow students in the discussion only because many times the responses do not add to the learning process as they consist of "good post" or "I liked what you wrote". On the flip side, this is a great tactic on the part of Dr. Edwards to get people to read each others' posts!
Everything was valuable.

Dr. Edwards is the best Sociology and online professor I have ever had. His humor, positivity, willingness to help, intelligence, and articulation skills are top notch! I have learned a lot his class! He's awesome!
Qunicy is GREAT! He is very well organized and always posted reminders. He is a overall wonderful professor and really knows his subject well! He really cares about our understanding and always went above and beyond to help in any way possible! Such a great professor! Organization of the class is what makes it so much easier, especially when we have to learn online. Thank you so much for your dedication!

The perspectives presented in discussion blogs.
The lessons he taught made it easy to relate to the "outside world."

it was a little difficult to figure out a studying method, although the power points were helpful, it felt like reading the whole text wasn't a very efficient for studying the material.... maybe more help from professor quincy? i would go so far to say i would personally have preferred a "study guide" before the quizzes than the powerpoint. it's difficult to know what a professor is interested in when you're just reading their power points. i'm pretty certain a face-to-face class could bridge any miscommunications (of what to study).

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
being active and playing a part in the class while learning and using sociology
The instructor is the best thing of this course.
The assignments and discussion were the most valuable. I took classes from Professor Edwards before and he is very organized and he communicates very well with his students. His instructions on the assignments are very clear and he gives us examples to follow if we have a hard time trying to complete the assignment.
I favored Professor Edward's response to student's postings. He added depth, clarity and actively participated in forum discussions. He responded professionally and never criticized student's responses, but rather challenged students' to look at situations from different perspectives. He was thorough in explaining concepts and was very encouraging with his expressions: "Excellent", "Good job" and "Well said," or "Well done!" I would say that this course is definitely valuable in all sense of the word, but more importantly, Professor Edwards, is truly valuable as a professor and as a person! Student's postings were also valuable. Their comments added to the discussion and helped me in the learning process.
I love how the discussion boards ALWAYS fulfilled my expectations in the information that was discussed. Just enough work to get the point of the lesson across to the students. Such a GREAT professor.
I found class discussions to be very valuable because I was able to discuss societal issues and course content with my fellow peers and with Professor Quincy. I was also able to gain insight of others knowledge and thoughts which was really interesting.
Since this was my first online course I thought that learning the material was going to be difficult and hard to understand. To my surprise I learned a lot more about the subject than I did during regular scheduled courses in the classroom. Professor Quincy Edwards presented the course with excellent structure and directions that were easy to understand. Throughout the semester I only needed to ask Professor Quincy a question once in which he replied very quickly.
I enjoyed the weekly class discussions. They were informative and I learned a lot from my classmates.
Learning different survey techniques
Knowing the different research techniques used in survey making and studying. I loved this course. It made me look at studies in a much more different approach. The readings were great, the projects were worth doing, and our teacher did a very good job at his job...its nice to be able to say this about teachers.

23. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
It is GREAT the way it is now. He is the best professor there is online. they all need to see him on how to do a course online.
Professor Edward is the best sociology professor I had so far. I had him as a professor for Sociology 300 (Principal of Sociology Inquiry), the course sounds very complex and the material we learned in that class was scary for a student to be going into. But Professor Edwards teaching technique was very easy to follow and he made the class enjoyable and interesting. Also, his syllabus is very organized and his assignment instructions are clear.
He can share his on-line teaching skills with OTHER teachers! Perhaps he can mentor new incoming teachers!
I think Quincy has got his classes under control.
Professor Quincy is a wonderful instructor. He is very understanding, very helpful, and very knowledgeable. I believe the way this course was organized and taught by him was excellent. No improvements needed. (:

Continue to do a great job! I loved your class!
Professor Quincy is one of the finest people I know. Give him a raise! and more! If there were another button better than strongly agree I would press that one! how about THE BEST EVER!
Very good Professor! I would recommend anyone who wants to take online Sociology classes to take from him. Great learning experience and I learned so much from him.
In place of an exam, we had to present a power point presentation, to be viewed and graded by fellow classmates. This was challenging for me as I had never done a power point presentation, but Professor Edwards encouraged the class not to be too hard on fellow classmates but to be mindful of each others' limitations. That in itself relieved some of the anxiety I was dealing with. He encouraged everyone to keep it simple and to make the presentations fun!
Really great course and enjoyed the class.

Reading others' postings. Taking an online class can be difficult because you don't have the instructor in front of you. All you have are your classmates' response. For those seasoned sociology majors, their comments helped you understand the reading material.

Nothing, it is PERFECT!
Being a full time employee, I thought the concepts, methodology and research material a bit overwhelming. I'm not a fast learner, neither am I a slow learner. But I had to put in a lot of reading, over and over again, until I could make sense out of the reading material. Professor Edwards is a great teacher, and I don't see how he could improve on this on-line class and make it any better.

I would give this class an A++++.
20. Other comments:
I think additional comments on how to write a practicum would be beneficial. I struggled with these assignments because I didn't know how to use the research material and apply it to a case study. Even though we got an example to follow, being unfamiliar with a topic and not having the ability to comprehend the reading material, made it that more difficult for me to write about. I'm not a fast learner and neither am I a slow learner. However, I spent most of my time reading and re-reading the material just to make sense of it. And not being a great writer, it took me that much longer to respond to the posted question. Other than that, I would take another class, if offered by Professor Edwards.

The discussion posts were extremely helpful as well as the job portfolio
I especially valued the joint learning. THe fact that we as a community can peice together answers to topic discussions. I did enjoy reading what others had felt in comparison to mine. This course did also help open my eyes to the job market that I am gearing up for. I do feel that it is very helpful to put together a job protfolio and use that to make an informed decision about the career I plan to undertake.
Limiting the length of posts forces me to be more concise and get straight to the point. Many times, teachers want a paragraph or more which only gets filled with "fluff." Also, as for reading other students' posts, its not so lengthy and time consuming.
The job portfolio and researching our career jobs.
class discussions.
The interaction with classmates and Professor Edwards was great.
Discussions Questions.
The postings and the grading system Prof. Edwards employed to encourage the class to post. By reading others' postings, you were able to see the discussion from different perspectives. And by responding to the question we received 50%. By responding to two postings posted by classmates, we received 25% per posting. This was very encouraging.
Every week, we were presented with numerous discussing that were so interesting and related perfectly to what we were learning.

Nothing to change. Professor Edwards is an exceptional teacher and knows how to engage students in the classroom.
Perhaps more extra credit.
I don't know how else Professor Edwards could improve the class. Being a full time employee, there was enough reading material and questions posted on Laulima that pretty much kept me busy. The assignments were especially challenging for me because I had difficulty putting my thoughts on paper and in writing. I am not a writer so a lot of my time was spent in writing and re-writing my postings. This took up a lot of my time.
I believe he is an experienced professor that has a worked for his classes to be as organized as they are.

Great!! Would take another course from Quincy if I wasn't graduating. :)
I would recommend this course to others. I really liked the way the course assignments and tests were administered; it helped with learning the material and being able to take the tests twice allowed us to review the questions we didn't know and to try it again.
excellent.
Fantastic course and would highly recommend. The course content is interesting but what made it exceptional was Professor Edwards. He is extremely knowledgeable and understands how to stimulate our minds and helps us through the learning process. I've taken many online courses (several with Professor Edwards) and I can say hands down he is the most engaging, outgoing, thought-provoking online class Professor any student would be lucky to encounter. An exceptional faculty member that I was fortunate to be part of his classes.
Great.
I enjoyed Professor Edward's on-line class. I would definitely take another on-line class taught by him. I would give him an A++++!
I can say that Quincy Edwards is the best professor I have had a UH Manoa. His teaching strategies are on point to the way I learn best. I have thoroughly enjoyed the 3 classes I have had with him so far.

Thank you.
Quincy is the best sociology professor @ UH Manoa.
Thanks for teaching me something I feel I can use in the near future.
Professor Edwards is understanding and truly wants his students to succeed. He is a hard worker as evidenced in his response to many of the student's postings, and a good writer as shown in his comments when replying to a student's posting. He is truly an asset to the Sociology Dept. at UH-Manoa. I would definitely take another one of Professor Edward's sociology classes.
Topics are applicable to life. I would love to have met the teacher. I would have enjoyed this class more had it been a lecture setting.

19. My overall evaluation of this course is...
excellent.
Awesome!!!!
great. This course has followed the expected goals. I feel that I have learned a lot despite the fact that this is an online course. The professor taught the lessons in a way that is easy to understand. He is quick at replying back to any questions or concerns that the students have. My overall experience of this course is a positive one. I liked the structure and format of the assignment due dates. The assignments weren't too difficult but it made the students think on a critical thinking level.
Best
It was a great and interesting class- especially for a required SOC class about surveys! Not what I expected!
This is a very good course. It is a difficult course but the professor is very good and he does not require too much from the students. The work load is perfect.
Excellent
It was a good course, the information learned was very valuable and was taught in a way that made it easy to understand
This was a great course!! It could have been boring and difficult because of the subject matter but Quincy has a gift for keeping it fun and engaging, which helped me to learn more. I highly recommend this professor and course exactly as is!
It was a very organized, concise, and in-depth course. The schedule is easy to follow, and the work is appropriate for it's level.
Very well structured and enjoyed his insight on subject matter
I was hesitant about the subject material of this course, but Quincy made it fun and interesting. I felt like I actually learned a lot about survey methodology that I didn't know before, and I respect Quincy as an educator very much. He is very thorough and passionate about his work and is always ready and willing to help students.

Perhaps including a few article examples about Hawaii would be interesting as this course is based from the University of HAWAII. Although reading about issues from other countries was insightful, I personally would've found it more relevant to read about survey topics here in the islands.
Thank you to Quincy for the best online class I've EVER taken (and I've gotten through three years of my degree by taking mainly online courses)!!
Thank you for a great semester Quincy, and best of luck in your future endeavors! :)

This professor does his best to convey the lessons as best as possible, despite the fact that it was an online course. I like how he structured the due dates for each assignment, which made it easier to keep track of his assignments. Although taking an online course may be difficult at times, he would consistently send reminders of the due dates. He is very encouraging of his students to succeed in his class.

For an online course, Q. is the best. He involves himself in the forums and blogs and gives inspiration and direction into areas not explored in the material. Absolutely a great instructor. Very ope minded and easy to communiction with.
I felt like SOC 313 was a very organized and taught course.
Dr. Edwards is one of the finest professors I have ever had. He has made this course interesting and stimulating. I would suggest this course for ac ore requirement.
Very good teacher and very organized.
The course was very organized, which made things easier/convenient.
Dr. Edwards is a great professor. Even though the class was online he was very engaging and made the class very interesting. He provided a lot of supplemental information and made the content relevant to all students. I will always remember him as I felt that his teaching style was contagious. He really made me think about what was being discussed and relate it to my own life experiences.

Very intelligent professor. He is also very helpful, and compassionate. His assignments were very interesting, and worth any students time. I recommend him to a great extent. I learn A LOT in his class, and enjoyed it very much.
I have taken a total of 4 course online through the UH system and so far Professor Edwards is the only instructor who has actively participated in and guided the online discussion. He has provided feedback that provides insight beyond what students are picking up through the material, and was very helpful to clarify areas where there was confusion or misunderstanding. In addition to providing relevant examples of survey designs, he also included material on topics to stimulate critical thinking about the college environment and very relevant issues students may encounter during their academic season. I was impressed that he connected course material with practical life issues. Professor Edwards was also very gracious to accommodate my course completion after an unexpected accident and serious injury at the beginning of the course. Had he need been willing to accommodate some of the physical and time limitations I experienced, I would have had to drop the course, which would have prevented me from completing my degree on time. I think that 10 weeks was a short time to cover the material in this course. My only suggestion about the activities and assignments would be to have students propose a hypothetical survey and guide them through the survey design process to reinforce the student's comprehension of the steps. Professor Edwards, thank you for your guidance and investment in my learning experience.
I have now taken more than 5 classes from Quincy and could not ask for a better professor. He always gives us topics that will get us thinking and is there to help with anything we might need during the course.

Quincy Edwards is an awesome professor. I loved this class. It was informative, interesting, and useful for life experience in the work field.
After taking my first online class through the Maui Outreach Program, I was really dissatisfied and vowed never to take another online class. I stuck with onsite classes until this semester. I asked several of my friends about this class and the instructor and all the responses came back positive. I really enjoyed this class. I thought I would be lost in it because of the time frame but everything, from the beginning to the end was well planned out and the instruction and subject matter was cohesive. When and if I had a question during this session, Professor Edwards was there to help me. The subject matter was always interesting. One of my friends (also taking this class with me)agreed that this class was well-prepared, organized, clearly communicated, and his grading was fair. He responded quickly and efficiently and I thank him for a wonderful semester. Mahalo...
