Great course, great teacher. Quincy really cares about his students and wants them to succeed if they put in the work. Wish more professors where like him! Usually it is hard for me to find interest in learning online, but Quincy's class really engaged my interest and I felt like I learned more than I would learn in a live class.

great teacher
Great course!
Overall this is a good class to take. Quincy Edwards gives us advance time to complete our work and follows up with our assignments quickly so that we can make changes and keeps us up to date on our progress in class.
I truly enjoyed Quincy Edwards class. Before signing up for his class, I was able to do some research on who he was and how his teaching style was rated by others that took his class. I am beyond happy that I did my research as Quincy Edwards goes above and beyond job fairly and is very well organized in the distribution of class assignments. He is very clear in his instructions and I will definitely recommend him to anyone interested in the upper level Sociology classes. He is AWESOME!!
I really enjoyed the formatting of this inline course, it made my life so much easier.

9. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Replying to other people's post made me feel more interacted with the class than feeling alone in doing the work. He is very understanding when it comes to the assignments.
Discussion. Weekly discussion and it's topics, selected by Edwards, are thee best. The textbook, even though required to read and discuss its content, other material added extra reading and thought Stimuli. Quincy emphasizes interaction, and I can definitely relate. He's able to tie all course content not only on a week to week l, straight line fashion, but integrates all content into cohesion.
the discussion was valuable.
I got to learn about the field of work and what is happening around me in todays society.
Will actually use what I've learned in class in real life. Whether pursuing my current career is not only my optimal choice but a realistic one. By knowing all the details that one must know in pursuing a particular job or career.
I liked that he communicated well with the students and was very on top of things. He was very straight forward with what he expected of us and that was extremely helpful. I enjoyed that he was very engaging with his discussions.
weekly discussion postings
Using tools and resources that can be used in the future.
His availability as an online instructor was amazing and the way his syllabus was organized it was so easy to understand. He does so well as an online instructor that I would recommend everyone to take his class that needs to.
The discussion boards and videos were the most valuable part of this course. I really appreciated the interaction and very timely responses Dr. Edwards provided. This was my first time taking an online class where a professor was very interactive with the class in the discussion boards. By doing that Dr. Edwards also made us think about the question and our responses from a different perspective and at a deeper level.
The Job Portfolio assignments were very valuable. They made me start questioning my future.
Discussions with the class
Discussions and assignments relating to real life were the most valuable to me! In addition, the life lessons that I can take away from it are very valuable.
Good set-up with the discussions
Discussion threads helped me better understand the course material by allowing me to read other students responses. The job portfolio allowed me to use an abundance of resources to help make informed career considerations.
The helpful weekly reminders.
The online discussions were very helpful in understanding the terms discussed.

Excellent educator! UHM educators are able to learn a thing or two from Quincy. Suggestion: The sociology department needs to have Quincy teach Technology and Society, Urban sociology, and Analysis in society and economy, or economic sociology. I highly recommend Quincy to Teach Economic Sociology, and the aforementioned sociology courses.
Thank You for a wonderful semeseter Proffessor Edwards
Great class, learned a lot about not only the course itself but also myself and the career I'd like to pursue. Highly recommend taking this course. Professor Edwards opened my eyes to things I've never really put much thought on before.
I enjoyed this class as well as the professor. He did a great job and this class was very well organized. I would definitely recommend this class to others. This class was very informative and helped me to prepare myself for my future career choice in a profession after I graduate. Thank you so much for you sharing your knowledge and expertise in this class. I really appreciate what I have learned.
The professor was very accommodating when I was falling a little behind. I was able to catch up and cope without being overly stressed out.
Amazing..Amazing..Amazing instructor. Quincy Edwards knows his work and asks for quality discussion and gives encouraging feedback!! Mahalo for an awesome semester!!
I loved the organization of this class. Every week I knew what was expected of me, I knew what assignments were due, and I really appreciated that Dr. Edwards posted the assignments more than a week in advance. It allowed me to work ahead in case things came up last minute with my family.
Quincy reached out and gave me a hand when I needed it the most and I owe it to him for helping me get my act together
Highly recommend this class to others
Quincy Edwards is a great professor! I have taken 3 of his classes, and have learned so much!

9. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Learning more about surveys
The engagement in the discussions
Flexibility of the course. Work full time job.
Course content was tough as I did not have high level background in statistics, yet Quincy was able to teach it at adjusted level to aggregate across present students. My selecting a national survey for as research topic guided my learning throughout course.
This instructor was a great aspect to this course. He could explain the material in an understanding way when I had problems.
communication and clarification of assignments throughout the semester
The instructor provided in-time and constructive feedback and is very friendly to international student
I felt the coursework was applicable and presented in a straightforward manner. I thought the book was applicable and the discussion posts were used to demonstrate knowledge and not to fulfill any word count requirement. The follow up questions on discussion posts were used to encourage critical analysis. Dr. Edwards responded to discussion posts in a timely manner and it was obvious that he actually read them and wanted students to understand the concepts.
His grading method is the best thus far. He pays attention to deadlines but still gives enough leniency to make up missed work in other ways. It leads me to believe that he cares more about the knowledge the student had acquired as opposed to whether or not they were able to to a discussion post in time. He measures the students ability to perform and that i feel is the best way to grade a student.
I really enjoyed how the material we looked at were different types of studies. This made it more interesting to look at. Professor also made the concepts clear throughout the course.
I think that our instructor was an amazing teacher. He always challenged our way of thinking and always gave different ideas and things to consider with every assignment.
The discussion threads helped me better understand the course content by reading other student's responses. The research paper helped me better understand surveys.
Infound the weekly discussion questions most valuable.

Very good class and instructor.
What the sociology department needs: Quincy Edwards to also teach Urban Sociology, analysis in economy and Society , or economic sociology, and Technology and Society, or more courses at the 400- level. Readers: take this advice seriously. Addtionally, some thing I missed, Freshmen declared sociology majors need to be taught that Quincy is available for their optimizing their UH Manoa sociology experience.
Coursework was responded to in a timely manner which allowed me to know whether or not I was doing it correctly. I appreciated this and it allowed me to be better prepared each week. The email blasts were applicable and kept me informed of what was happening each week. Everything was organized and expectations were laid out well in the syllabus. This was a great class to take online.
Greta teacher! Always available!
I would honestly recommend professor Edwards. I have taken multiple courses from him.
Professor was really helpful in clarifying questions. I also really appreciate how quickly grades were updated and how quick responses through email were.
I think that Quincy demonstrated a high standard for instructors especially online instructors. He did an awesome job and I was always impressed by his work. He was always helpful with any issues i may have had. I think he should get a raise.... seriously!!
Quincy Edwards is a great professor! I have taken 3 of his classes, and have learned so much!
I have taken a couple of Professor Edwards courses in the past and always Enjoy learning the material with him. He is always willing to help you understand a concept you are unsure of, always available, and boy do I a appreciate the promptness of getting grades back to us!
The online discussions were certainly one of my favorite aspects of this course. There were so many topics to be covered that the discussions never became boring.

9. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I love the class discussions because it was a fun way of interacting with classmates and sharing our ideas.
The professors input
The weekly discussion were valuable, and helped me gain a better understanding of the textbook material. Also, the Practicums were challenging, yet extremely rewarding.
Communication aspects of the course were most valuable in contact with other students including the instructor. Laulima was a very helpful source in all of our assignments and tests.
The weekly discussion questions helped me to understand and grasp new concepts! Being able to communicate with peers allowed me the chance to apply these concepts to real life situations.
This course made me see the world in a more analytic way. I see the sociology involved in every day life and i can make connections that I could not before this class.
The text was supplemented with online power point slides that made the content easily understood.
documentaries
He supplied us with ample information, handouts, and powerpoints to help us completely understand the material.
Given that its an online course the professor was very helpful. Explaining concepts I didn't understand and replying email questions on a very timely manner.
Everything
Very organized
Structure of course content and presentation is extremely well-organized and designed that creates a unique way for students to learn. Edwards treats students not with the intention that such individuals are student, but highlights that students cooperate within online learning community together. Edwards individualizes teachings by student type. Challenges conceptual knowledge according to student's learning ability and stage in his or her academic undergraduate track.
Th layout of this course was perfect and made it easy to understand

10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
I think there is a lot to be learned from this course, so I don't think there is anything that is not valuable. The research methods that we learned could be put into practice.

I felt that we should have had more chances in retaking the quiz rather than just one try.

Commenting on other people's responses every week.
The text wasn't very exciting... not invaluable by any means but not very thrilling. Again this doesn't have anything to do with the instructor, rather the content of the course....
Very confusing and not organized. Hard to keep up with what is due when.

First time taking online course. Didn't know what to expect.
Nothing
Very difficult to pin point any aspect that is least valuable. No one would agree there is such. To say this much, Edwards needs to teach other online lecturers how to teach!

This class was my favorites this semester because we were allowed to think outside the box.

Professor Edwards was very helpful in confusion of assignment submissions and basically anything I had questions on.
Being that I just decided to minor in sociology a lot of the material was new for me! Professor Edwards helped me along the way with open communication and great feedback! Thanks again.
It was a pleasure to take this class. Thank you very much.
Although being it was my first online class that is the only factor I didn't like about it. The professor genuinely cares about his students and if you put in time and effort you will get a good grade. If he ever teaches a regular lecture class I will definitely take it. Great instructor.
Very organized and very helpful. You can email him and he responds very quickly. He grades fairly and all instructions are clear.
Appreciate your immediate feedback!
Again, structure of content allows for insightfulness to be generated on student's part. Instructor, as one who teaches methods, configures a unique teaching element, is very critical to the "when, what, how, and why" components as each chapter is delivered weekly. Allows for student to connect the dots, generate creativity in critical thinking, and leaves room for student to critically think about own research methods and conduct in day to day interaction. Please have Edwards teach more courses for each semester. This includes the following: Urban Sociology, Technology and Society, Analysis in Economy and Society.

The extensive discourse provided by the teacher and the numerous examples during discussion used to expound upon the information.

Real life application and freedom to express are opinions
I learn a lot this semester.
Everything
I think the job portfollio was the most valuable because you can see the projected outcome in your field.
Learning about the sociology of work is something that is useful in every day life. I believe the entire class is valuable.
The Job Portfolio assignments, because I had an opportunity to seriously consider my future prospects.
The instructor's feedback
I thought our job portfolio was most valuable.
Organization, communication, syllabus.
The discussion posts helped a lot.
How he interacted with the students and engaged more discussions.

I wouldn't change nothing about the class.
No
I do believe there were areas of the readings that were uneccesary. However, that wasn't anything involving the course or instructor. The book can just drag on and on and repeat itself.
The discussions, while sometimes engaging, often devolved to a robotic agree-fest. When the thread boils down to a dozen or so people rehashing the same one or two viewpoints, the activity loses its meaning. That said, it was generally more pleasant than classroom discussions, where professors urge us to participate only to inform us that our opinions are flawed.

I like everything the instructor teaches. He totally a great instructor.
Online discussion and response which allowed questions and discussion to take place online and receive everyones feed back.
The availability of assignments, very fast with help emails, good course
I really enjoy the course structure of this class. Although the course is online, Professor Edwards makes every assignment clear. He is very knowledgeable about the course.
The discussions were most valuable gave us the opportunity to engage with one another.
Analysis of the articles offered up in class was great practice! Professor is VERY clear about processes and expectations.
The discussion questions where most valuable because I gained a great deal of knowledge of the course and also I could communicate with my classmates and professor. Another thing is giving us a great deal of time to complete assignments knowing that we are sometimes busy.
I found the class discussion insightful. The assignments were fun to do, the Professor lets you choose what topic you want to do it on.
I appreciate the way that Professor Edwards brought the issues to light with regards to current/ relevant issues facing society.
This course helped me learn more about surveys and how to analyze them.
10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
I wouldn't change nothing about his course. He really know what he is talking about and teaching.

The due dates for our weekly homework assignments were confusing to understand at first. On the Discussion section in Laulima it says when the assignment is due specifically at 6pm but in an email early in the semester he pushed the time to 12pm.
Pretty good overall.
So many students did not participate in the discussions that at times it felt like it was just a conversation between two or three of us, and it was a stretch to have meaningful dialogue.
I'm not sure because this was a hard course.

13. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Everything but I particularly enjoyed doing the Practicums the most, being an online course and yet still being able to do a lab was a great experience and really assisted in my learning for the material.
Although this was an online course, I really liked the comradery amongst my classmates and our instructor. Our weekly discussions with one another really helped me grasp the concepts that we were learning.
Edwards responses to our discussion forums usually carried a useful level of insight and helped me understand the topic matter better.
Learning about different methods in research were interesting. I got to learn about society more and looking at it from a different perspective.
Professor Edwards was very thoughtful in letting students know ahead of time of upcoming assignments and when they were due. Helpful throughout the course!
Learning the steps in order to conduct proper research.
The course was laid out well, Dr. Q was in communication at all times, and he has a great way of describing the subject so you understand.
The quizzes really helped me put the information I learned into effect.
The practicums and extra credit forum were most valuable to me. I was able to apply the concepts to these activities and explore interesting studies and their issues.
Discussion boards
The quizzes which studying for really helped me learn more about the class, and the discussion board assignments where I was able to interact with my classmates.
Gives a basis which will help set up to be successful in other sociology courses.
The discussions were most valuable, because it helped to know how my classmates were understanding the material.
14. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

26. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I feel Quincy Edwards did a great job teaching this class. He made the assignments interesting and the class as a whole was very enjoyable.
Great as is.
The work load was a bit overwhelming. 5 quizzes, 5 practicums and a major research paper was sort of rough along with the weekly discussions but it was do able.
Quincy Edwards offered a great course and I am unable to point out any improvements needed.
Nothing for this course. Maybe teach others how to instruct a course online.
I wouldnt change a thing. Great course great instructor.
Perhaps being able to choose from multiple questions to answer for the chapter's discussion may produce a more diverse discussion and cover more concepts.

13. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Open discussion about each chapter
The topics of all of our readings, assignments, and discussions were interesting and important, but I think the Job Portfolio was especially useful because it helped us learn highly applicable information about our future careers and prompted us to think deeply and realistically about our preferred occupations.
The most valuable aspect of this course involved the assignments that made us research our future career.
Dr. Edwards professionalism and the discussions
Great class, all aspects were valuable.
All the readings and assignments.
I like that Professor Edwards tried to engaged within the discussions by not only replying to students posts but also posting other related topics for us to learn more.
Quincy's communication with his students throughout the entire course added tremendous value. By being able to talk with him about assignments and quizzes really made the course worth taking. I learned so much from him.
The weekly discussions that were based on covered materials and articles allowed for a better understanding.
What I found most valuable in this course is the discussion session. Although this is an online class, but the discussion board gives me a chance to learn from others rather than just completing assignment over assignment. The discussion environment is also awesome, everyone seems friendly and knowledgeable and respectful!
I greatly appreciated Quincy Edwards efforts in providing flexibility for study and assignments that accommodated my work/family schedule. The most valuable aspect of this course was the fact that Professor Quincy provided numerous resources throughout our chapter discussions. Professor Quincy provided us with different perspectives of work analysis that allowed me to develop a greater understanding and an easier time reflecting on discussion questions. Professor Quincy definitely went above and beyond my expectations of this course. I personally would register for another course that Professor Quincy is teaching. I highly recommend this class!
The organization was on point. Everything was let known to the students and we had all the tools we needed in order to succeed.
Researching my possible future careers in depth and looking at the future employment opportunities was really helpful. Everything that had to do with the Job Portfolio was just really interesting and beneficial to my future job. I also appreciated Professor Edwards quick grading/feedback and how organized his course was. I thought the quizzes were appropriate and the extra credit was useful. I learned so much about the sociology of work by being able to relate to the course material. Great course that I would recommend!
The fact that it's online and it's structure is very easy to follow.
14. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
The reading quizzes were perhaps less valuable in terms of direct applicability to our lives, but I support keeping them because they were still a relevant and necessary component of the course. They provided incentive to keep up with the assigned reading and pay attention to important concepts.

I honestly thought parts of the Job Portfolio could have been skipped. The websites that we needed to use were kind of difficult to understand making the evaluations for occupations hard to navigate around. Especially for those who are still unclear what they want to do after they graduate.

research
Professor Edwards is instinctively fast at replying to students' questions, responses in discussion boards, and emails. He is extremely helpful and always challenges students to dig deeper into the course material and critically think about each question in our discussion boards. I loved the discussion boards because he made the topics interesting while still relating to the course material. I hate to admit it, but I would even look forward to completing the next discussion board every week. He made discussions intriguing, and made me re-evaluate how I thought about certain situations. This course was definitely the best online course I have ever had.
learning how to do survey research.
The convenience of the online course.
I learned plenty in this course that I never thought or considered before. I liked Prof. Quincy's style of teaching as he plays devil's advocate and challenging us to think more and consider other ideas in the discussions. I like the extras he adds because it makes him feel more connected to the class even though it's online.
Professor provided a lot of valuable knowledge and information towards the course and also made is easy to understand, especially being a online course.

All the readings and assignments!
Personally all of them. I'm a psychology and sociology major and I love a perspective of psychology that combines both. Every aspect of this class was valuable and significant to me specifically.
I really enjoyed the discussion posts. I felt that reading the opinions of others really helped me understand the chapters much better.
explaining thoughts
Each weeks assignments helped to focus on new topics, but also build upon topic discussed or used from previous weeks. Also, bringing in real world example to help give better context to the material we were learning was very helpful and very engaging. Despite being an online class, the format helped to keep it an engaging experience with both the instructor and classmates.

26. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I really liked having more questions to answer. It allowed me to expand my knowledge and think about different aspects of the course or even to go back and re-read sections of the book that I might have missed. I think Professor Edwards did a great job asking us questions in the discussion section.

Seriously he does an amazing job at teaching this course online! I legitimately can't think of any improvements.
Quincy did a great job. He doesn't need improvement.
Change absolutely nothing.
I would have liked to see more videos to see what some of the research techniques we saw looks like in action or for extra discussion with certain chapters.
Great teacher! I wouldn't mind taking another course with him. Always great in keeping in touch and always quick to reply to emails when I need help or need a question about the assignments.

Explaining more in details
This was by far the best online class I have taken. I am not sure how to have improved the teaching in this class. I would like to commend Dr. Edwards on creating an engaging and thorough learning experience, especially in a condensed time period over the summer.

Isn't it ironic that we are completing a survey for our course, "Analysis in Survey Research" ... :)
Great class.
I enjoyed this online class. Everything was straight to the point and extremely organized. I loved the side reading. I thought he picked extremely interesting researches to use as an example. I would recommend him to other students.
This online course reached all it's goals and I would recommend other students to take it!

I loved that the course was interactive rather than just doing everything on our own.
Overall a great experience. Format of the online class was quite well thought out and gave opportunities for myself to conduct work regularly to keep my learning experience engaged, but also with enough time for myself to focus on other tasks in my life. In addition, regardless of online/in-person, the class was set up in a way that helped me learn the content very efficiently and effectively. I took this class to learn more about survey research (I had a very vague view before) and will come away feeling like I have accomplished that and would be comfortable applying what I have learned to other situations in school or in other contexts as well.

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The discussion post not only helped me learn course material, but also helped my writing skills. It taught me to be thoughtful, clear, and concise. Whereas, before I tended to be wordy.
course readings
Discussions were helpful at understanding concepts.
I really enjoyed the content and understanding of this course.
The quizzes were good.
The discussions really helped to keep you on top of the readings and I appreciated that. It was also nice to be actively involved in such a big debate every week, something not every course will allow you in Manoa.
The amount of work is decent, the grading system is extremely fair so if you were to fail this course then you would know the student was simply not trying. He shows a decent amount of leniency and he is extremely understanding. The discussion portion should not change at all. So helpful, fun and interactive. The quizzes and exams gave you two attempts. If you took them early, it would allow you time to go back and restudy portions you were weak on. That is also super helpful.
The practicums were great at giving real-world application to the concepts and practices we were learning about.
The discussion board provided me a chance to participate in a intellectual dialoge that promoted articulate opinions. I feel the format improved my writing and helped me formulate my opinion in the most accurate way. Also the Professor's feedback and participation in the discussion forums was invaluable.
I enjoyed the discussion questions every week!!
The chapter discussions were the most interesting as we got to discuss the main topic areas with other classmates. For an online class, this group interaction is very valuable and kept my interest throughout the semester.
The discussion forums and quizzes.
Quincy Edwards was very knowledgable of the course materials.
Quincy's explanations of topics in the discussions.
all were valuable aspects.
Practicums. I hate to bring more work upon myself but more of these would have been beneficial.
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
None.
I found the Practinums to be very hard (some not all) but that is just something that I needed to work harder on.
The Practicums were kinda long.
Nothing. I took the most I could get out of this course.
The three responses to classmates in discussion. There was not substance to the responses. Most times, classmates just said "good job". It lacked facilitation of constructive conversations.
For me some of the practicums felt a little tedious and dry.
None. Although there was a lot of reading, there was a lot of time for open discussion amongst classmates and the instructor. The instructor made everything interesting and everything was valuable in the course.
N/A
There were way too many large assignments, especially the last few weeks of class. It puts unnecessary stress on students when we are trying to study for finals and do other homework and projects.

Thanks! Highly recommend Dr. Edwards as a teacher. I've never taken an online course before and it flowed really well.
Great professor, very knowledgable in course content.
I recommend Quincey Edwards because he is a great and understanding Professor! Whenenever I needed help he always responded to my emails right away.
I really appreciated the organization in this course. Becauase it is one that requires so much work, things could have easily slipped through the cracks but because Professor Edwards made a point to keep exceptionally organized, offers extra credit to those who wish to do it, and keeps the students updated on the work required and their current grades he really makes it impossible not to get an A. Great course. I am glad I took it online and with this professor.
Professor Edwards is one of the best professors I have ever had the opportunity of learning from. That says a lot considering that I am currently taking his course online and have never had the chance to meet him. He is extremely supportive and understanding. He facilitates more than enough in the course discussions and goes above and beyond in all aspects of this course. You can tell he takes great pride in his work and that he is readily available to help students learn. He is there for his students and not just the paycheck. This also says a lot when discussing certain professors.
In my opinion the Professor is doing a fantastic job. I'm very satisfied with the level of understanding I have about the subject after taking this course.
This was my favorite class this semester for the area I am focusing on is Social Work. Having this sociology class with Professor Edwards broadened my knowledge about research methodology and techniques. The information gained from this course was relevant to my career goals and my current work. I will recommend this class highly to my fellow colleagues because I gained a lot this semester from Professor Edwards.
Very good class and look forward to taking another course by you in the Fall semester.
Good teacher, too much homework, too many projects, not enough time to do them all.
Quincy is an amazing instructor and it is evident in our discussions. He is able to bring interesting events into our discussions that help us better understand the material. I am glad I took this course. :-)

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I thought that the discussion forums were valuable because I was able to learn a lot from my peers.
The online blogs. I felt that they really taught me a lot and the interaction and discussions we had with other classmates helped out a lot as well. I liked it!
The readings and it being online
The daily life examples provided. The ability for Professor Edwards to communicate and instill confidence was refreshing for a distance education course; he made it so that as I student I felt as if I wanted to interact with my classmates just like I would in a classroom setting. He posted very interesting examples of current events and the organization and expectations were clear-something I tremendously value in distance education so that I am able to plan my studying.
Discussions were the most useful tool because it allowed us to share our thoughts
forums and interactions, and the tests were set up in a way that encouraged better learning and retainment of material
All of the material was useful especially to apply for the future.
Quincey Edwards is a fair teacher that allows us to gain as much points possible. He is very understanding and realistic instructor.
That we got to apply everything we have learned into our assignments
I think responding to each other was the most valuable, and that Professor Edwards responded with follow-up information too. You get to see different viewpoints and learn a lot more. A lot of teachers don't take the extra time to respond back to students when conducting online courses.
He really applied the subjects to our own lives and then gave back great feedback and comments in our discussions.
Learning how to function most effectively with everyone in a work environment was very valuable because it is an area that we will eventually have to face sooner or later in life. Also, researching our career paths was highly useful.
with the help of this course, I was able to narrow down the careers that I was interested in as well as all the aspects that came from it.I was able to research qualifications, the wages, and what the job would entail.
Everything in this course is valuable. The way professor Edwards conducts his course should not change at all. It is at its optimum for any online course. He allows us two attempts at our quizzes and exams. He allows make up for lack of discussion in one thread by allowing a more interactive discussion in another thread. In terms of discussion, he is the most realistic professor out there. We may not have much to say for one discussion but a lot to say for another so he takes that into account.
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
I felt that the requirement to respond to other classmates' posts was more of a formality. I didn't learn much in doing this, but I understand the need for interaction.
Nothing really. The blogs, quizzes & extra credit were all we really had and all we really needed. So nothing at all
Personally I just don't like forums
I don't believe there were any!

Amazing professor!
I would recommend this course with this instructor. Awesome material and instructor.
Quincy was a great professor. He had a great outline of the class and made a online class much more enjoyable and fun to take. he gives us great extra credit chances.
Great course! Really interesting topic and the structure of the class was planned really well.
I felt that I had no feedback on my progress. Although I had a good grade for most assignments, I wasn't sure if I was getting credit just for doing the assignment or because I had a decent answer.
One of the most down to earth professors hands down. I would definitely take any course that he is teaching. He facilitates the learning and does more than many of the professors that I know. Great professor.

I really appreciated how understanding Mr. Edwards was. Even though it was an online course I always felt like I could reach him. I have taken many online classes and I have never had a teacher as good as him.

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The class discussions were most valuable because it displays everyones thoughts
I found that the practicums were very challenging but useful to ensuring that students actually understood the course material. It is important especially in this course to understand the concepts in practice and not just on paper.
I enjoyed the weekly discussions and input from peers and the professor in a more relaxed setting.
Nice refresher course in inquiry and research
Practicums
Weekly discussions kept the class on track and participating weekly.
I appreciated the class discussion. Professor Edwards was key in keeping the discussions going, which I am sure can be difficult with online students. The practicums were also very valuable.
I thought that the application of theories discussed throughout the course was most valuable.
Very easy to get into contact with. this proved to be very useful.
The requirements of the online course were very challenging and required development of new skills and perspectives. The instructor was the most valuable part of the class. The discussion questions and guiding comments helped develop a more complete understanding of complex concepts introducted in the text as applied to our society. This type of instruction demands tremendous effort so students get meaningful feedback and this professor is very motivating and accomplished. This course was taken because of the quality received and knowledge gained from a previous course. As before, this course exceeded my expectations. The tests, practicums and assignments are far from easy. Anyone passing this course ethically, earned it fairly. Syllabus and instructions are clear and help requested is usually immediate. Please give this professor quality vacations and do whatever is needed to keep him. Thank you.
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
I found class discussions to not really spark much thought. It was one or two good comments, but for the most part, it didn't really help me to further understand the material or to push me to think harder about the topics.
the assignments are too heavily piled into the last month of the semester. they should be spread out more.
Discussion boards
There were no aspects that were of no value in this course.
didnt particularly like the very theory based course content
Your online library search for reference materials is convoluted as compared to KCC. It needs to be easier to navigate or you end up circling and giving up.

23. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
He does a great job!
I think that discussions are a little difficult. Mostly because the concepts can be quite hard to understand, and that makes it difficult to engage in conversation with other students about it. You did make an effort to help understand the material, but discussions were definitely disheartening for me at times.
distribute the assignments more evenly throughout the semester.
I can honestly not think of one thing that would improve this course, everything was extremely fair.
I think that he needs to just keep doing what he's doing. This course is a great alternative for students who can't fit the actual class into thei4 course schedule.

By far one of the best teachers I have ever had at UH. I think that A LOT of other teacher could learn from Professor Edwards. Not only was his class extremely organized and prompt, but Edwards was extremely generous in reaching out to those who needed/asked for help in the class. Assignments were graded fairly and returned quickly. Gradebook in Laulima was always up to date. Quick responses to emails. Awesome teach; will definitely, and already have, referred other students to take his class.
Course probably could have been a little tougher for a 300 level course, but the fact that methods class was not boring is a tribute to the Professor!
Prof. Quincy is a good instructor.
Professor Edwards shared his expertise in other fields to expand sociological examples to the current, relevant experiences of his students. This was a welcome bonus!

I liked the real life stories we read about.
Best online class I've ever taken. Edwards was so responsive and quick with grading!
i really liked the job portfolio
The job-portfolio assignments
I think the class discussions are very valuable, it give everyone a chance to give their opinion and hear the opinions of others
The lecture notes followed by the discussion questions-they both tied in to together and helped with understanding of the material
I really like the Job Portfolio discussion assignments.
The posting of assignments 10 days before the due date and the weekly postings were very helpful in keeping track of what assignments were due when.
I really enjoyed this course. I liked that the job portfolio was broken down into different parts.
I feel that this class is related to the everyday life of a person who has a job. It was very informative about the social job structure and the background information through a company.
I liked that Prof Edwards challenged our ideas and forced us to thinking critically
The Textbook and other reading material held the most value for me.
Talks of workplace ethics and sexual harassment. Also the job portfolio.
Discussions were the most valuable because it gave us the opportunity to interact with other students and the professor. A lot of extra credit opportunities to boost grade.

I think he can improve the teaching of the course if he could hold an online chat session. Possibly once a week for an hour or two in which we can all go on and ask each other questions in a live setting.
Quincy is an awesome teacher and he should just keep doing what he does! no improvement needed, honestly!

This is my second time taking this professor in a online course, and I must say everything from how all his courses are structured to the flexibility of course deadlines works out really well. I learned a lot from his discussions, powerpoint slides, and readings. Best professor to have for an online course by far, and I would definitely take his courses again if this wasn't my last semester.

I loved this class. Professor Quincy is the best online teacher I took at University of Hawaii. If I could take all my sociology classes from him, I totally would.

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The professor Mr. Edwards is the biggest and best asset to this course. His teaching style, of Outreach courses, is ideal and should be replicated by other instructors. He is by far the most involved, present, and invested instructor at the Outreach College that I have encountered so far.
The most valuable aspect of this course was learning the rules about conducting research. It was nice to hear that there are agencies that protect people when research is conducted! Awesome! People first!
The written assignments, weekly discussions, and up to date grades.
The discussion posts helped with learning and understanding the concepts.
discussion posts and quizzes. also your quickness in responding back to us.
Provided basic background and specific ideas necessary for research.
Learning the minutiae of analyzing sociological concepts and exactly how applying these principles to real research may and should be performed.
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
I would say homework but that is usually the case for all my classes. =-)
Everything was valuable.
The work load given.

Needing to respond to fellow students in the discussion only because many times the responses do not add to the learning process as they consist of "good post" or "I liked what you wrote". On the flip side, this is a great tactic on the part of Dr. Edwards to get people to read each others' posts!

Thank you professor Edwards! Another enjoyable semester!
Very interesting and informative.
Quincy Edwards is an excellent teacher. He is the best instructor I have had online. Makes requirements and assignments very clear to students, with a fair amount of time to turn things in. He is always available to help students when they have any issues. Responds to emails quickly.
Dr. Edwards is the best Sociology and online professor I have ever had. His humor, positivity, willingness to help, intelligence, and articulation skills are top notch! I have learned a lot his class! He's awesome!
Qunicy is GREAT! He is very well organized and always posted reminders. He is a overall wonderful professor and really knows his subject well! He really cares about our understanding and always went above and beyond to help in any way possible! Such a great professor! Organization of the class is what makes it so much easier, especially when we have to learn online. Thank you so much for your dedication!

Enjoyed the course and the freedom we were given to discuss topics that are pertinent to our lives as well as interesting.
Great discussions!
The way the course is structured is very good. The amount of work required is perfect.
Professor was flexible with students
The fact that I learned more about sociology. Very interesting aspects. Quincy Edwards is a very good instructor and I would recommend his class to everyone that needs it as a required course. This course gave me a broader site in the world of work and the many things that I didn't know about corporations and other workforce areas.
daily discussions requiring critical thinking
The overall concept learned that applied to work and the entire work environment.
The perspectives presented in discussion blogs.
The Job Portfolio
The lessons he taught made it easy to relate to the "outside world."

it was a little difficult to figure out a studying method, although the power points were helpful, it felt like reading the whole text wasn't a very efficient for studying the material.... maybe more help from professor quincy? i would go so far to say i would personally have preferred a "study guide" before the quizzes than the powerpoint. it's difficult to know what a professor is interested in when you're just reading their power points. i'm pretty certain a face-to-face class could bridge any miscommunications (of what to study).

The use of the textbook wasn't really necessary. As much as I learned the content from the textbook, I felt like I learned more from the discussions.

I favored Professor Edward's response to student's postings. He added depth, clarity and actively participated in forum discussions. He responded professionally and never criticized student's responses, but rather challenged students' to look at situations from different perspectives. He was thorough in explaining concepts and was very encouraging with his expressions: "Excellent", "Good job" and "Well said," or "Well done!" I would say that this course is definitely valuable in all sense of the word, but more importantly, Professor Edwards, is truly valuable as a professor and as a person! Stu
