13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
she is a very helpful and patient professer! i would take her class again! she really enjoys teaching the subjects even though they are not happy subjects.
Awesome teacher!
GREAT teacher!!!! Enthusiastic which made people become interested in the subject
that she is a great teacher, she gets to know you as more then just a student but as a person. She has a clear understanding of the material and subject at hand
that she's a great instructor. I learned alot especially about current events that I had no knowledge of whatsoever. She's really relatable and super easy to communicate with. I'd definitely take another course from her if I could.
This was a very interesting class that allowed for significant and inspiring group discussions each class. Diana was great at leading discussions but still allowed students to contribute majority of the time. There was a lot of reading, but definitely worth it.
A great Professor who care about her students
Diana is a great instructor. For AMST 211 she selected topics that are important and thoughtful. Diana is well organized and tried to get everyone to express their opinions on matters that are not always easy to deal with. The topics were not always uplifting, but Diana created a space for everyone to express themselves candidly and honestly without fear of being judged. Diana is an instructor that I would highly recommend. Contemporary American domestic issues are important to cover as many of the mistakes of our past still haunt us currently. I feel as if the issues we dealt with made everyone more thoughtful of the world we live in. AMST 211 with Diana Tsuchida gave us all the forum to speak our minds while experiencing the viewpoints of others. That alone allows for personal growth which is a necessary thing.AMST 211 is a thoughtful class that promoted self reflection, and I appreciate that a lot. Diana encouraged the class to do their best and helped whenever possible. She is an asset to the faculty of UH Manoa.
excellent job! inspired myself to always come to class extensively prepared, and excited to discuss and participate!
Good instructor. Promotes discussion in class, is always prepared, and is friendly.
She is a very good teacher, although she puts you on the spot at times, she encourages your opinion even if it may not be the right one.
She was a great teacher. Learned many things about issues in todays society!
Fun teacher. she can realate to us alot because of how young she is. examples are very relatable and interesting
perfect
that she was a great instructor and understood the things she was teaching us and gave her own opinions too. I had her as a TA in another class so when I found out that she was teaching her own class I took advantage of the opportunity. In both the classes this semester and last semester Ms.Tsuchida was able to take the ideas in class and explain it in a way so everyone could understand. She is easy to talk to and made sure that you stay on task with homework, papers, and test.
she will make a good prof one day

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
i liked how we had group discussions because it would help me be able to write my paper. I also liked how she would find movies that related to our topic.
Class discussions
class discussions where everyone could voice their opinions
the book selection, im not a big reader but found the readings helpful and informative
I liked that it covered contemporary issues. I liked covering the AZ immigration, civil unions, and the financial crisis. The class set up was really good. It gets students to engage when normally they wouldn't and encourages communication amongst students.
I liked the group discussions the best. They allowed everyone in the class to get to know each other and share our ideas more openly and without fear of ridicule.
Being able to express my viewpoint. Hearing other people's opinions and viewpoints even if they conflicted with my own thoughts. The topics. Diana's easy going teaching style that at the same time is honest and open. Diana is real, she is easy to converse with and highly informed about her subject matter. She always made time to discuss what the class was about; even after class was over. On more than one occasion I saw her make the time to help other students with questions and problems that they were dealing with. The candid and open communication that Diana inspired.
team-based class debates
Discussions in class were entertaining and I liked the selection of readings, as well as the documentaries that helped to expand on the topics.
Certain topics were easier to talk about. It was nice to hear other students experiences with some of the topics.
The Outline and how the course was ran
discussions and the fact that she knows alot about the material and can apply and relate to it effectively.
pizza
The aspect I like the best was using books as guides to what we are learning. Then we would have discussions on them which I think helped me learn the material better. Being able to discuss with the whole class helped me understand aspects of the book I didn't understand while also giving me a chance to give my own opinion to the class. I also enjoyed watching some of the videos that related to what we were learning about in class.

16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Some of the books were boring and uninteresting.
n/a
There weren't reall any aspects I didn't like. The financial crisis book we tried to read was hard to understand, but I liked the topic and it was supplemented with the documentary.
The amount of reading.
It was not always easy to hear the opinion of other people. However, in a class such as this, on order to deal with problems that we face, it is necessary to see all viewpoints. Respectful discussion was made clear where everyone could speak their mind. Overall I do not have any regrets about this class. Diana dealt with the issues on many levels, and I believe we who took the class seriously left the class having a better sense of self. How could you not with such deep issues that concern the world we reside in?
Nothing in particular. Maybe that it was at 7:30 in the morning, hah.
Class was too early in the morning
its too early in the morning to have discussions.
There wasn't anything I didn't like about this course. It requires you to write a couple of papers but that is expected of a writing intensive class. Overall this course was a great experience and a great course to take.
discussions. they were pretty much always one sided
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
I like this course a lot and i just wish it had more interesting books
GREAT!!

that it was awesome. Definitely helped provide better understanding and I feel that we're leaving more knowledgeable people.
Very good!

I would highly recommend this class, and I would more so recommend taking it with Diana Tsuchida. Great class, great instructor, important issues. The topics are not always ones that that people may think about or deal with, so it is great to have to deal with them in a classroom setting where discussion and involvement are encouraged.
A good course that highlights contemporary domestic issues that we face as a society.
It was a big eye opener for me. Have a better foundation of American issues and learned how ignorant i was. So many things going on in the world.
Excellent
good writing intensive course.
awesome
that I enjoyed this class overall. Before coming to college I didn't even know what American studies was. But after taking two classes in that field I realized that I enjoyed both courses and hope to continue taking courses in the American studies field.
it was okay
18. Other comments:
i hope she keeps teaching, i would consider taking another class of hers, shes not boring and ingages everyone into disscussion
Mahalo nui loa to Diana Tsuchida for all her efforts and diligence throughout the semester. I appreciate it and am sure others did as well.

11. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
She did a great job of clearing each assignments objectives when I didnʻt clearly understand them. I could really relate to her and she made sections fun and allowed great discussions to happen.
Diana is a great instructor as she was able to come up with different ideas for which to discuss the information from homework assignments and lecture meetings. She made it easy for everyone to share their opinions as well as making sure everyone got involved so even the shy, quiet people could be heard.
Very nice, well read, & gets a good amount of discussion going considering many of the students do not read the assignments prior to arriving to class.
Very good. Helped clarify and explain things learned from the lecture classes with Dr. Perkinson
She was a great TA. I think she will make a great professor. SHe got everyone to participate by using ways that would appeal to us. For example, last section she got us to play a game to find a capitalist and have defending speeches if we were accused. It was a great pleasure to be in class to see what she came up with next. She was a great help to me because I could e-mail her questions and would recieve detailed explanations or answers for my questions.
Very friendly and approachable. Brings fun to history and want us to think - does not just give the answer. Pulled in more shy students as well
Good TA
She never puts our ideas down and is a fantastic listener. I feel very comfortable expressing my thoughts about a certain subject that we are covering in class. She also, makes the material easier to understand.
Good teacher, tried to start discussions with the class.
Diana was a very good teacher. She was always very prepared and very knowledgeable about the discussion topics. She encouraged the whole class to participate so discussions were not one sided.
Very knowledgable instructor had a very organized class outline and encouraged student discussion and involvement. Opened up many different ideas and points of view for each discussion topic.
She's a cool cat that likes to talk. She was really nice and easy to talk to but I had no idea what we were talking about most of the time. (My fault since i didnt do the readings sometimes)
she is very active in the course & is just as knowledgeable as the professor! Great attitude and preparedness in class.
great teacher, very enthusiastic and engaging. she did a great job of getting everyone to contribute to class discussions
A very helpful TA
Excellent. Knows how to keep everyone engaged in the discussion through fun and creative activities. Knows her subject well, easy to get in contact with if one needs help.
great T.A. very organized and easy to talk to.
that she was a great TA and helpful to my first experience in college. Being sort of shy I was skeptical on my first day of section because I was not as confident talking about the issues we learned in lecture. I felt that I would say somthing wrong or random and everyone would laugh. But Ms. Tsuchida really made me feel comfortable talking to everyone and would help me get my ideas out if I was unsure I was saying.
she's a good TA
She came to class every Friday enthusiastic about the subject and helped out a lot with understanding material.
Very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Class was very engaging and make me think critically at some times.
She was okay.
She's great. Communicated very effectively with the class and encouraged everyone to participate. I really enjoyed this portion of the class.
Great discussion leader. Engaging and does a great job of encouraging all students to communicate thoughts and ideas with the class.
Very knowledgeable about the course and overall very friendly and easy to talk to.
Someone who students can get along with and also has a lot of knowledge about the subject.

13. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I enjoyed doing the class discussions in which we split into groups and given topics to talk/evaluate on. This allowed us to understand multiple topics at once without any confusion.
Being able to review the readings for the week and getting a better grasp of them by relating them to the course objectives, and the ability to express opinions openly
The discussion group really helped me solidify an understanding of the concepts throughout the course.
I like that she was easy to talk to and could be very understanding. When she explained the work I found it easier to understand then what I had thought in class. Class has way too many people for us to ask all questions but in section because the class was smaller we had time to discuss topics in detail.
Involvement of everyone and that we were given to think for ourselves first. Also that it was easy going.
Class games that could help us actually understand the subject matter.
When we define IDs.
The discussions were interesting at times.
We did group activities where the class would have debates. These were the best because everyone had to state their opinion.
section discussions were interesting covering a range of topics and points of view for weekly content
The cookies.
small class reviews on weekly Course IDs & activities
discussions
The games that we did.
I liked everything about the course, but mostly the small group classes because those were more interesting than the large group lectures. Also the two films were very interesting and taught me a lot about the topics discussed in class. should continue with the showing of the two films, especially, Michael Moore's Capitalism: A love story.
The games and the understanding she always gave if we didn't read or didn't know what was goin on.
one aspect I enjoyed was the Capitalism game because it was a creative way to tie the Jennifer Government book and what we learned in lecture into a game that everyone would enjoy.
I enjoyed the session since it was not really stressful work.
The discussions we had in class.
I liked that we were able to discuss in a small class after a lecture at the end of the week.
I liked the class discussions and activities.
The class discussions. Always open and thought provoking. Family type atmosphere.
open forum style discussions and communicative learning.
The world war two reading was interesting.
The discussions since we all got to hear our opinion on certain issues in a comfortable environment.
14. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I didn't like the debates we did because there wasn't enough time to put everything together. Although fun, the work portion of the debate seemed a little rushed and therefore not the best presentation.
Questions did not inspire much debate and many lab sessions went with little response and general apathy for the subject matter
I did not like having to write responses impromptu. I felt rushed and it was very difficult.
I actually don't have a "least", if i would have to say something... dragged on sometimes. Seemed like we could be done earlier but stayed because of time.

large group discussion.
One aspect i liked the least was the discussion part only because I felt that I didn't fully understand what I learned through readings or the lecture. But when I did understand and was able to discuss I felt proud of myself and thought that I was gaining a lot of knowledge that will be important in the future.

Taking the exam.
There was a lot more reading than I had anticipated prior to taking the course. Once you fall behind it's almost impossible to keep up.
Not knowing what certain topics were and how capitalism, communism, etc. effects the community.
The beginning of the course was dull and boring. It also made the course very hard to get into.
None.
15. My overall evaluation of this course is...
I thoroughly enjoyed this course as I have learned so much more about the history of America and what history we may make in the future. It kept me interested as we covered topics from the slave trade era to the colonization of the Hawaiian Islands. Having these smaller sessions helped to understand the topics at hand more clearly and allowed for much more participation.
Standard, well done, but your typical section
that it was great. I like the section much more than class itself. I felt that section covered materials are easier to understand and pretain in my memory.
good, discussion based, stimulating, informative.
This section is very effective and helps me better to understand the course material because I get to hear more in depth about what we are covering and what my classmates have to say.
I liked it.
Good.
excellent course covers a lot of non traditional historical analysis
It was good.
great
Very interesting course.
excellent. interesting subject and an important one because it teaches us our mistakes in the past.
Better then History class. We learn and stick more to America in this class.
that it was a great experience. Out of all my classes I felt that this was the most challenging one but after a while I realized that I found myself already knowing information about certain subject discussed in other classes.
i liked the course
She made it easier to understand the course material. The professor sort of rambled about random things throughout lecture and Diana pointed out the important things that were going to be on the final.
Overall it's a pretty interesting course but there is a ton of reading to do. Not really for me.
It would be a great class if I could have understood the material better.
Five Stars (out of five)
this discussion was great supplement to the AMST 150 lectures.
Interesting but hard to stay focused on.
The class is both interesting and fun. I get to learn a lot about the subject, yet have fun at the same time. It also in some ways, helps me become a better reader.
