13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
fun guy. good effort to make a subject like math interesting and appealing to students.
gave clear understanding of the material. good pace in teaching
He does have a passion for teaching and gets along with his students. The topics he covered outside of the topics in the textbook were interesting, and he knows some stuff regarding mathematics.
Creative Included variety in lesson plan Created comfortable learning environment
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
n/a
Organization needs to be somewhat improved. Assignments aren't sent out as usual (even if he said he would), and some topics take two full classes to be covered.
Don't spend so much time reviewing homework, maybe put answers on a ppt slide then go over the ones that actually need to have time spent on. Lessons were not organized, prepare examples beforehand
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
he helped students outside of class who really needed help
He sends out e-mails on assignments (helpful for those who missed class), sometimes right after class, and helps students in class on how to do the problems step-by-step (even if it is simple enough to do quickly). I have yet to go in during office hours, so I can't comment on that.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
takes time after and outside class to help.
yes. he is a very good teacher and helps his students a lot
To students who are required to take ICS 241, I would definitely recommend him along with Bauer (LCC) over Sugihara. He makes the material easy to understand, and assigns homework that are relevant yet simple enough to do so students can fully grasp the topics.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
he's a cool guy

18. Other comments:

He should, as Sugihara does, give out bonus points for students who volunteer to go up and perform the solutions to the homework or other problems.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
knew the subject material
- Outgoing, good personality. - Knows his subject matter. - Willing to meet outside of class for help with assignments.
He is very good at getting back with his students. I also found that he was always willing to ensure every student understood the material before he moved on.
Likes the content that he is teaching.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
more projects (small ones), at least initially to get acquainted with eclipse and java
- MOST IMPORTANT!!! Please change teaching style from (follow what I type) to teaching about the code and what it does. Then assign small assignments in each class. I feel that this method really encourages students to understand the code. I have found that in the 'follow me' approach its easy to get lost in the sauce. Maybe even make short Youtube clips for instruction. - Needs more structure. Reading materials need to be layout out for each week (week 1; chp 1, week 2 chp 2...) - Change the book to something easier or just teach javascript/jquery. The GWT book was hard to understand and full of technical jargon. Seemed like it was meant for a seasoned web developer; I stopped reading it after chp. 3. - Java? maybe an intro java class as a pre-req would have been nice. - I would have like to have learned some js, jquery. Although I did learn qwt, it would have been nice to actually code html5, css, js, and jquery.
Maybe mix up the class structure so that it's not so monotonous. It's very tough material and can be very dull, but there could be ways to change up how the class is layed out so that students attention is kept better.
I would like my assignments graded in a reasonable time. The content this semester was very interesting
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
available for help, will make sure everyone was ok before moving on
He help students in class and outside as well.
By replying to emails quickly. He also showed his concern for students by staying as long as it took with a student so that they understood that days instructions. Very dedicated professor.
Gave up a class period to help students with a project because many of us had problems with the project
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would recommend this class, but I would warn students to learn some java before hand.
Yes I would recommend. The material he teaches, for me, is a bit dull and boring, but he works with what he has to teach the material.
Neutral, but the course could be better managed
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
drastic improvement over previous experience with him. much better experience.
answers questions that students have and if you ask him to slow down he will.
18. Other comments:
Class would go past 7:45, sometimes 8:30. Class was a bit difficult because of the lack of knowledge that IT students have in the java language since we were learning VB in 128, 148, 228 and expected that we had some sort of knowledge of java, but eventually was able to catch on and finish projects. Also class felt a bit slow, sometimes felt like we took 2 hours which could have been done in about 20 minutes. Otherwise, we learned a lot of cool things on generating a web page from java.

The class was very well organized and prepared students for the weekly online quizzes. Explanations were detailed and also kept a good sense of humor.
Doctor Nickles major strenth I feel is his knowledge of the subject and his way of exciting the class into learning the subject matter.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Dr. Nickles was willing to help students right away and without a thought. He promptly answered to questions via email which was very refreshing.
Yes he helped the students by staying after class if someone needed to talk or offer suggestions about concerns with the assignments
He would go over things if people had questions.
helping with extra work
Good
In between lectures he would ask if the students had any questions.
I have mentioned earlier, he was very positive to help students, whenever our class encountered any questions do not understand when he will come and help us, or he was ask, if any do not understand this step please raise you hand. He is make sure you fully understand the contents in the class.
Mr. Nickles showed concern for his students by speaking with them on a personal level that allowed them to want to open up in class. He had a comic humor that made you smile even if we are talking about a subject that many take for granted.
Helping students whenever anyone had a question
He was always there to help even outside of his office hours if someone had a problem he told them to just e-mail him and they could set up a time both of them were available.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He teaches clearly of his lectures.
He knows the material. It's obvious he's taught the class for some years.
explanation that easy to understand
Good at explaining things.
Prof Nickles intimately understands the material and he shows obvious concern for his students understanding of the material. To me, these are the two most important traits a teacher can possess.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Easier exams.
More in class work with students. Slower Pace.
None, really.
update the grade on laulima
It was kind of hard to study for the exams, I didn't really know what kind of questions we would have to be studying for.
The class could absolutely use a bit more coursework. I think a lot of people were intimidated with the scope of the assignments, and we definitely had a bit of attrition even with the relatively few assignments, but the class was very theoretical, so doing the legwork on your own with the code to tie it back into the lectures seems vital. Maybe shorter, more numerous assignments? Maybe facilitate communication between students to help each other with projects? If cheating is a concern, students who are not doing their own work should be able to be winnowed out with exams, and the students who are doing their own work would benefit tremendously.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He always answers student's question.
By addressing concerns of students quickly.
I would ask to come to see him because I was confused and he would take time out to see me for two days in a row.
He always encouraged questions. If somebody expressed that they didn't understand something, which probably meant there were other students who didn't understand it as well, he would make sure to thoroughly explain the point before moving on. There are even instances where he will stop on a more difficult topic and try to elicit questions from the students to make sure that we have a good grasp of what he is explaining.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, because he's very nice.
Yes, he knows the material very well.
ask question
Yes I would because he is very patient and explains things well if you ask him to.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Course moved very quickly. Needed to have more teacher to student support.
He's a good teacher.
I came to like algorithm, thank you

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
David is a java guru and really knows the subject. He is innovative and really smart and fast.
D. Nickles contains a vast amount of information on the subject area, and this helps in terms of students applying their knowledge towards a project goal.
In a field where creativity has no real restriction, he encourages us to go as far as we can, and gets us interested in the possibilities.
Knowledge of software theories.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
-- snipped --
-- snipped --
At the beginning of the course, we could use more time with the basics of the tools we will use later. Understanding them better may help us move faster later.
The class was hard because most of the students did not know java. If you could learn java in 24hrs why would you need ICS 111 and ICS 211? The subject was very confusing because it was java and google web tool kit, and SVN systems that you had to learn.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
David was always there for us. Very helpful, encouraging and helped us along our projects.
Nickles showed clear concern for his students by providing his knowledge to students at all times. A concern for his students' ability to excel in the class was clear.
This subject area changes and updates constantly. Mr. Nickles has given more time than class time to work with us when exploring the alternatives for building an application.
Help to write code.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, if you want to learn programming or making mobile apps
David Nickles would be recommended to other students for his ability to share his knowledge of programming. It was very clear that he is a very intelligent professor, and just needs to practice sharing his knowledge in a more effective and fun-friendly way.
Yes. This type of field is always changing, which means a simple, one-shot course of definitive (or plainly laid out) instruction would not be relevant long. Mr. Nickels goes with an approach that lets you learn more how to find your own way so you have the tools to keep up and make use of the changes.
Not for this class because it was very advanced. Perhaps it is the ITS program that should change to concentrate on software engineering and theory as a oppose to programming procedural logic like Visual Basic.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Thank you David! I really enjoyed class. I know it will take a lot of time to learn the ins and outs of java/gwt programming but the client project was the brilliant part of this class. Making actual apps for a client, the Waikiki Aquarium is very exciting.
N/A
Just that the beginning of the semester could use more structure just so that later we have a better idea of where we want to go. It's tricky to have no limits. Although, I find it a very rewarding challenge as well.

I'm not sure how else this course could be taught, given how flexible it is. I am glad I took it.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Knowledgeable.
He is incredibly knowledgable in this C programming. He encouraged student participation. He is also very quick to respond to his e-mails.
He showed compassion for students and made sure each student was able to fully understand the material.
He knows the material very well
Hands on with demonstrating material
He knows his stuff really well!
knows his subject area very well
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
A clear and specific grading policy on the syllabus, stating percentages of homework, labs, and exams.
To assign more homework assignment and lab programming exercises. They helped me learn a lot more that straight lecture classes.
Dr. Nickles needed to be a little more organized sometimes. There were times during the semester that he was programming during class but wasn't sure of how to get the program to work properly. Also, there were several times that we were expecting to receive homework assignments via email or other announcements, but they were never sent. Lastly, especially at the beginning of the semester, our class often went over the time we had allotted with no end in sight. There was a lecture and lab section for the class, but both seemed to be treated essentially the same. I would liked to have seen more hands-on material in the labs so that we had a chance to experience what computer programming was really like.
A little more organization
Maybe being more prepared for classes
I think he should explain better. He explains to us at a higher level and, litereally, all of us don't know whats going on! I listened to a student do a presentation about programming and I learned way more in those 2 hours than I did in his class! I also showed my friend nickles work and he said the way he does it is right but really really confusing! he should make things simpler to understand and not jump around all the time. also, he talks to the board when explaining things to us in class.
more programming
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He is very encouraging of a two way conversation between the teacher and student.
He would often take the time to re-explain things in different ways to make sure that students that were having a hard time were able to understand the material thoroughly. Also, he would be there to answer any questions as well.
Good grading
Working with students one on one
He's helpful if you ask questions, but I still don't understand majority of the stuff he's talking about.
always very patient
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would because he definitely is a teacher that will help students to do well in the course but also learn the material that is being presented.
Yes, he grades fairly
Yes, He is very helpful
No, I wouldn't. He assigned us a project last minute in the semester and told us he was going to give us a guideline to the report and he still didn't send it. The project is due in 2 weeks and we have no idea what he wants from us.
yes fun class
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He's a nice guy! I just think he's too smart to teach a lower level programming class because he's not good at explaining things.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
he knows his course, availability, and understanding
He likes to help students and very good in making class very relax.
Knows a lot about subject and was very helpful when students needed assistance when doing in-class assignments.
Always willing to help students!
He knew his subject and knew how to be eclectic at times when teaching . He was very good and compassionate. He showed that he wanted to see all of his students succeed, and went out of his way to make sure that happened.
Professor Nickles taught the course very well. very helpful.
A very inviting personality which provided I good atmosphere for learning. He obviously knows his subject matter but is not cocky about it. Not afraid to make a mistake and roll with it. When I went to his office he was extremely helpful and answered all my school and other technology questions.
Mr. Nickles is good at what he does and he knows what he is talking about most of the time. Good at communication skills and he has a sense of humor
Knows the material
He makes the materials & class fun fun fun!
ICS can sometimes be a dull and complicated subject. Professor Nickles knows his subject incredibly well and it shows in his ability to effectively communicate dull subjects to his students in a easily digestible manner. Through personal experience, some of the other ICS professors are unable to do this. I also appreciated his effort to add a little humor through jokes and anecdotes.
Communication. He's great at lecturing. He was very clear with instructions.
He is very nice helpful teacher.
He is helpful. He helps students in class as well as outside of class
He was systematic in his explanations, he made sure everyone was on task by coming over to help each of us if we had problems, and he spoke very clearly for us to fully understand him.
He is knowledgable when it comes to computers.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
My suggestion maybe he has to speak and teach slower because for me, the way he teaches is too fast and sometimes I could not understand him. Moreover, I didn't understand most of subjects from each chapter because students have to read and do the homework themselves. He has to explain more detail each chapter from textbook instead of just reading the outline in class.
No suggestions.

The class is to streamlined it its current state it is more suited to an online course. I felt like i could have stayed home and learned everything the class covered and then forget everything right after. Another ICS teacher had us do an in class quiz every couple of weeks that was related to the program we were learning at the time. We had to complete the project in class and in view of the teacher. The point is that we were on a time limit so we better know how to do it and we also could not cheat.
lesses the quiz and grader project
No power point presentation at the end of the semester.
He is great already!

No.

not sure
use a different book so you dont have to have a microsoft computer to do the homework, dont just read off the book like a robot, be more active, teach the material better, dont assign material outside of the course topic, dont add stuff to the syllabus, let students know what is due every week, leave teaching and go work for some company that doesn't include teaching, all u do is read off a book and let the internet programs grade everything.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
spontaneous, creative, etc.
He always helps his students and always gives another change for getting better score.
If students had difficulty or were lost while going over topics, he would help the students get back on track.
He would stop what he was doing and address the student, seeing what he could do to help.
Answered any questions the students had. responds to emails very quickly.
He made sure to answer any questions we had and also double checked to make sure we fully understood.
asked if we understood what we were doing and if we have any questions
Open office hours
He sent me email when I was struggling the material. He also talked to me in campus too. very helpful and he sacrifice his time to teach me out side of class. That is great.
Professor Nickes reminded students throughout the semester that if they ever needed help, he was available. He also reminded students that he does not bite, and that they should use all the resources that are available to them or they lose out on the benefits their tuition pays for.
He was always asking if students did not understand something in the lesson.
Well comunication
He observes student to know some one need help or not.
if we raised our hands, he always came over to help out, and he warned us about any assignments we might have missed.
when it was getting close to last time you can withdraw from a class with a w he would tell you and advise the class that if they weren't doing good drop the course.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes, he knows what he's doing and make it exciting
I probably would, but I will remind them (especially non-active speakers) that he speaks and teaches very fast. If that person has a hard time to understand, I would not recommend his class.
Yes, interesting class to take. Programs and information is applicable outside of class for other classes and even work. He teaches very well. I like that he goes over the chapters in class and does the exercises for Microsoft Office programs together with the class and prepare study guides in advance for the online chapter quizes.
Yes, because I learned alot in his class. He brought out the best in me.
yes. awesome teacher
I'm on the fence about this one. I like him as a person but the way his class was organized I felt that I could have stayed home and learned all of this. His lesson structure was more suited to an online course. If i choose right now i would say no but i also understand that he is new so maybe in a few years we will see.
yes, even though there's alot of projects and quizzes ive gained so many things in this class i feel like i know so much about microsoft 2010 like i could get really deep into it using all kinds of tools. This class really helped me boost up my knowledge of computers
Yes for ICS.
Definitely YES! He is the best ICS professor:)
Yes.
Yes, because he made the class entertaining and very informational.
Yes, cause it was a good class.
Yes, students who really want to learn should take him because you will learn a lot from many assignments, projects, quizes and test.
I would recommend David Nickles to other students, because he demonstaits effective teaching skills to us and I felt I learned a lot from his class.
No because I think he is a horrible teacher as well as several of my classmates who thought the same thing, he is boring as hell because he just sits there and reads off the book which u could do yourself so you dont even really need to go to class unless you dont have a microsoft computer which is also stupid for this course you should be able to use both mac and microsoft because most college students have a mac computer anyway.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
keep up the good work!
He is a very nice teacher
Overall, some what enjoyable, but was able to learn a lot. I was already familiar with most of the programs that we were learning, but this helped to reinforce what I learn and was able to learn other things that I never knew about before.
We need more teachers like Mr. Nickles
I had a lot of fun in your class Mr Nickles and I hope to someday be as knowledgeable in my subject as you are in yours.

He did great job. I liked how he taught us.
Excellent professor.

He is a good teacher.
quit teaching, you just take the easy way out letting the computer do everything, dont be so mono tone, dont just read out of the book, dont assign content outside of the courses skill level.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
very helpful when student have a problem
He is passionate about teaching.
I really love his encouragement of participation. Getting up and working through problems on the board makes attending class more than just a passive exercise.
Helpful and would be available for help.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
I feel that he relied too much on the text book when he would teach. I'd rather see a custom planned lecture.
Not enough time in class, the 75 minutes went by really quick! I would say use class time to introduce as much new material as possible, and provide review with supplementary explanations/exercises that can be taken care of outside of class when necessary (maybe even make it mandatory to make sure that he has a proper gauge on students grasp of the material).
Study guide be a little more clearer.
He could use a more structure in how he operates the classroom
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
explained answer to any questions students had
We made sure to spend plenty off time on problems that students didn't understand.
Our class always had lots of questions, and Prof Nickles always made sure to thoroughly address anything we weren't sure about. When I had a question about a lecture I had missed, he even made time to meet with me outside of class to go over the material. (I've had teachers before that would just advise you to copy the notes of another student).
Being available and always asking how was the chapter.
Yes, He makes himself available to deal with issues and concerns.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes good class
Yes, see number 13.
Yep! In fact, I'm taking his class next semester as well despite KCC being significantly farther from me than HCC or LCC.
yes because he is a very helpful teacher.
Some Yes and some No. His teaching style will not work with everybody but a lot of people could learn from him.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Great teacher that cares about his students. An asset to any institution lucky enough to have him.

I admired his passion for the course content. It would sometimes go over my head, but it's good news when you see that you have a professor who really cares about what he's teaching. His teaching methods are are more unorthodox than others, but it provided a very open atmosphere for self-learning.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
That he is very much computer and technology literate. He is very much up to date and he knows how to work well with computers.
He know technology really well.
He really knew a lot about the subject.
He knows his material well and wants students to learn by engaging them in class material.
Awesome teacher and very knowledgable!
He presents the info in an effective manor and was knowledgable.
He cares for his students and really wants us to do well. He also made this class more interesting than i intended it to be.
Hes very smart, knows how to explain the material well.
David Nickles's major strengths as a teacher are his adept knowledge in the subject and I especially enjoy his lectures which stem from the course material. I like his method of teaching and learning. He is a clear and good communicator and demonstrator in computer operations, and learning new programs. I think he is an excellent communicator and really knows how to make learning material relevent, essential, and interesting, perhaps because he has a phd in teaching he is aware of what methods work best.
Great teaching skills!
Enthusiastic to teach students of concepts in new age technology.
He is a kind teacher. As a international student, sometimes I cant catch up the class, he was willing to teach me again.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
NOne
Great teacher
none
He should do more class activities.
n/a
Add more hands on learning.
More interaction in class maybe some activities.
Changes?... Hmmm...None that I can think of. He is an excellent teacher. This is ICS 101 and the course is pre-structured and he does not have the freedom to even create his own tailored course syllabus, it is given to him. That being taken into consideration, he adapts the material to more than just a text book, and monotonous procedures, but encourages exploration and recognition of integration of computers in our daily lives.
None.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He made would always remind us of following assignments due Sundays and not to forget because its the weekend. He would email us every week what was covered this and that day and a list of what to read and what is due. I don't think he has to but I think he goes out of his way to do so. I find those weekly emails very helpful cause it shows dates and how soon an assignment is due. So those are helpful. He would walk around class to see if we are okay and if needed help. He makes us read and go over study guides before we take the weekly quizes.
He poster upgrades regularly and emailed us.
He wanted students who didn't pay attention to pay attention.
If you have any questions then he will stop and help that person.
Yes by explaining the material throughly.
Was accessible and leanient.
He would stop his explanation during a step-by-step exercise if someone had a question so that they wouldn't be left behind. He was also willing to give people another chance and was very understanding.
He always kept us updated on assignments coming up or due.
He is always ready to answer questions and if a student is behind in a learning exercise that we are doing, he will take the time to make sure that the student is on track. He answers questions to the best of his ability, usually thoroughly, and asked the students/class for feedback and this reflects his concern for the students.
Very passionate and very patient person.
Took the time to tend to student needs individually to each student that had concerns.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would definitely recommend Mr. Nickles. I think he is a great teacher. He is funny. Always so nice and happy. He seemed like he enjoyed what he does and teach. He always show enthusiasm each day. He is very well up to date with news and informs given that we have to write a respond to news event. He is very knowledgeable. He knows so many thing about computer in general and most technologies.
yes, very good teacher because he know his stuff and you can learn a lot form him.
Yeah. He's really nice and has a nice learning atmosphere.
Yes because he is a good teacher and will help everyone learn and become better with the computer.
Yes, very funny and knowledgable
Yes, his class was interesting and easy to follow.
Yes because he made this class fun and enjoyable.
Yes, easy to learn, great teacher.
Yes. I like his way of teaching and feel that others may feel the same. I was the type of person that was borderline "anti-computers" (if u can believe such a person can exist in this day and time) and with this class and his teaching I have now a genuine interest and liking of computers and look forward to growing better and better with my skills. David Nickles has great enthusiasm and I like the current event articles we discuss in class that keeps it interesting and relevent. I also feel he is a pro in his field.
Yes, great teacher. Easy to understand assignments. Explains assignments thoroughly!
Yes because he is very understanding of conflicting schedules and willing to accomodate material deadlines in lieu of unforeseen events.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Great teacher
He's funny sometimes
A good teacher.
He's a cool teacher!
Thanks!
I believe he truly enjoys teaching; and that I feel makes all the differece in the world, it is what seperates good teachers from exceptional teachers. Because students are sensitive to this, a student who gives it all of their effort should be met with a teacher who fosters and encourages the student answering any questions that may arise, Dr.Nickles does this so.
Awesome teacher! I highly recommend him to other students!!
A genuinely kind individual.

This was my first computer class ever! and I am surprised at how much I enjoy it. The TIA textbook: I actually really liked, it is well written, I felt it was enjoyable reading, almost leisurely and I looked forward to reading it. Knew the subject matter very very well.
creates a good learning atmosphere
He really knows the subject matter well.
He knows the course material well.
Scary smart. Industry and academically akamai. Practical/Professional minded, almost vocational. Provides students with the environment and opportunity to learn.
He knows a lot about computers, his subject are(computer programming)
He has a strong knowledge of the subject matter and exhibits a desire to help all students grow and learn.
he will go over the lecture again if somebody don't understand it.
knowledge of the subject matter
Knew subject matter well, very helpful outside of class
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
More demonstrations. Show us example codes that work so that we can see it in action before starting to teach about it. I learn by seeing how it works after breaking it down, not so much by creating it slowly. If I don't see the final product first, I don't understand why we're doing the step while we're doing it.

Come down to our level of learning- at times, I had no idea what you were talking about.
More structure. More frequent and firmer due dates. "Pushing" his screen onto students' monitors sometimes. Maybe some "animations" (as documentation) of some procedures.
-- snipped --
-- snipped --
more focus on the subject, be prepared for class a little bit more.
maybe focus more on what the class title is and slowly inter-grade the other concepts he was trying to teach the class in later years as it works out
More structure in class syllabus

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
This is the first class of it's kind. Maybe last semesters will probably be best for other students so that the program can be refined.
yes. good learning atmosphere

Absolutely! Unless they are lazy or stupid (unintelligent &/or ignorant). His class is a serious opportunity for professional advancement, one must be prepared to work well and work hard.

good personality to teach

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. That environment did not put itself together. You put the general effort into just knowing what was cutting edge. You worked out a plan that would work in an academic setting with a very diverse set of students. And, you worked out all the damn bugs that go with brand new technology; exacerbated by having to do it in a lab environment with locked down machines.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
- knew the subject area VERY well - when talking, felt like i was hearing someone read from a textbook
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
- felt that i was not entirely informed in terms of grades - MANY time i felt that i was lost - didnt take enough time going through the fundamentals. felt that we were always advancing with the material (beyond programming in C). didnt feel like the algorithms with C was necessary (even if it allowed students to have an advantage edge compared to other engineering/programming students) - felt like the pace that the lectures were going at were based on students who have already had experience in programming, NOT someone like me who doesn't - felt like i was being taught ABOUT programming in C, not actually programming for myself

- had some lectures after tests/quizzes
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
-yes, knows the subject area VERY well. I believe in time, Dr. Nickles will become a fine professor - very lenient and understanding for students' concerns
Yes. Im sure the next time he teaches this course he will be more prepared from the beginning and not waste time. It was about 6 weeks before we ever got a homework assignment or exam.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
- thank you, i've learned a lot
He went from walking to running. He caught us up really well. once he found the groove of how to make us learn he was unstoppable. Very good things to say about the last two thirds of the course.
