7. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The slideshows and readings
Powerpoints and lectures
Credits
The different topics that were discussed like Civil Societies, Nationalism, War on Terrorism, etc. I did not know much about these subjects. Also the opportunity for extra credit was helpful.
A lot of information was given out
I was challenged intellectually only because Ms. Um did not effectively communicate the topics well. Did have to "teach" myself for the most part. Great ppt. Simple or succinct. Not "spoon fed" in this class. Must be assertive and active learner.
The group projects.
learning what was required. different goverments and leaderships
The power point presentations and the posting of the material on laulima made the most difference in the class.
Lectures were very informative. Powerpoints were helpful. The group presentations proved to be effective as well.
8. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Nothing
Basic material which I already had knowledge of.
The fact that I felt this course was to much of a challenge to be a introductory level. I felt the tests were too hard. And the fact that I had to do most of my learning outside of class because I did not understand the lectures most of the time.
It was kinda boring
Instructor was not clear in her presentations, not only language deficit, but organization, flow, and relevant ideas in today's world.
Ms. Um stressed to much on subjects, failed to get the point across.
Unfortunately there was a strong language barrier between Ms Um and the class. She definately did try her best, and it wasn't horrible, but it did make lectures more drawn out and difficult to follow at times.
Although the topics covered in lecture were excellent, the lecture itself on the topic tended to be repetitive.

16. Other comments:
I suggest that when you answer questions or when you lecture, you go straight to the point. It is hard to follow you when you stray off of the topic or you go deeper when it is a simple subject matter. Don't explain so much and please improve your english it would really help! But overall, I like that that you care about the class and your enthusiasm. So keep trying and don't give up!
From listening to majority of students, these were their comments - Would request Ms. Um not teach a 100 level course. She is knowledgeable, but not able to present it in a way that is understandable to freshmen or sophomores. One did have to think critically with her exams., because you did have to understand the concepts which were not made clear in lecture. Did well, but I heard many had difficulty with exams because they did not know her expectations. Great ppt. Simple or succinct. Not "spoon fed" in this class. Must be assertive and active learner - if students did not understand her lectures or concepts, Ms. Um was very available and approachable with her open office hours. Ms. Um was very concerned that i understand the subject and even copied all the material for me when my computer failed - all the ppt and readings. If student took advantage of her availability they could have had a better understandign of the subject and topics and better understanding of Ms. Um's goals for her students. She is under- appreciated in a level 100 class.
Ms Um is very passionate about Political Science, as well as objective. She always pushed that class to think outside of their own personal beliefs and theories to understand phenomena in Politics. She is quite knowledgeable, and though the language barrier was present, it did not take away from her ability to teach the class.
Excellent job, it is evident that she cares about the well being of her students and teaching in general. overrall great job.
