7. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Amazing Race
lectures
Very helpful
interpersonal communication the 5 principles of effective communication relationships involving communication group communication
i am able to pay good attention in class
social aspects. i learned how to talka to people with more confidence
public speaking
The five principles of communication we learned.
Learning communication skills
Learning about communication and how it relates to relationships. The games in class helped me learn the material better.
The games that we played in order to improve our public speaking skills such as shooting ducks and the bells.
Presentations helped gain confidence and experience because there are usually not many opportunities to practice solely presentations.
the written exam, talk stories, and ethnic foods
I have practiced presenting in front of people for a few years so I was already comfortable, but Amy really explained in-depth of the materials and important things that should be included that I never was taught.
Learning everything that made a better public speaker.
I found that learning how to properly present oneself in from of others, especially when giving a presentation, was a most valuable lesson.
Awareness of communication
Interpersonal relationships and communication
COMMUNICATION & SPEAKING
learning how to speak in front of people!
Amazing race! Class activities/hands on
Learning how to speak impromptu.
the amazing race assignment was awesome and helped us communicate with each other more effectively while learning to appreciate the unnoticed art around campus more.
speech
"shooting ducks" task. The bell for verbal fillers also helped. Mostly practicing what we learned. The book was very helpful and explained concepts clearly.
I felt that the small class size was a very valuable part of the class because it allowed us to interact more and get to know each other which makes it a more comfortable and easy learning environment. I also thought that the interactive group projects and the fact that we had to communicate so much in the class whether it be a group project presentation was very valuable because it helped with confidence and also with developing better interpersonal communication skills and relationships.
We were taught how to speak in front of people which gave me confidence in myself and my abilities.
Learning about the roles played in groups and the status levels found within relationships
The knowledge of how to communicate better with others
Good group work
learning how to communicate with others.
Being able to speak well and present myself appropriately.
The lectures and practicing of the material!
8. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Busy work
I don't know. Everything was valuable
More speeches
stages of relationships
-
nothing
group project
The relationship parts.
None really
I feel everything I learned in this class was valuable to me. They were all things that I could apply to my life.
Sometimes the assignments would be very vague and no one really knew what to do.
Projects such as The Amazing Race were time-consuming and very unhelpful.
nothing
Everything helped and made sense!
nothing
I found that the teamwork section was the least valuable, not because I didn't learn anything but it was a surprisingly difficult session that we participated in.
Everything taught was valuable
The Amazing Race project was not as fun as I was hoping for. I didn't learn much about communication. I wish there had been more communication activities in the class. I did not feel challenged enough.
Public speaking is still a trip
not being in class a lot at the end of the semester it added a lot of stress with tests and things due because my schedule did not fit in with any office hours available to us.
last exam was kinda lost.
Going over the chapters, because it was hard to put it into real life action
none
nothing
The least valuable aspects of the course was having to participate in research studies with other professors. Especially because it was assigned during the last couple of weeks of the semester, right when students are studying for exams and such, then we have this other thing to complete in such a short amount of time that we really don't feel helps us in any way,to us, its just another requirement to complete.
I don't think anything was least valuable.
i couldn't say their was nothing really unvaluable
it was all valuable
A lot of stuff in the book did not seem important
when we didnt have enough time to study for one of the exams.
The scavenger hunt.
There were no real aspects that had no value to them... everything that we did had a relationship to speech and learning of this skill!

19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
More lectures before testing
more interactive activities/discussions?
more class time
For the Amazing Race project, I recommend giving more time for the group to complete the project. I also recommend giving more time for the students to complete their persuasive speeches.
-
The Amazing Race project: more time to complete the project
come to class on time if she expects her students to be on time
Better office hours
not sure
This course needs no improvement.
Be more positive with results on assignments or tests. Sometimes she seemed almost condescending toward how students did and it made several people feel negatively about their abilities and results.
Role-playing social circumstances, identifying what is 'wrong with the picture', would be very helpful to our learning experience.
nothing
Maybe more practice with presentations
nothing, i really enjoyed her class.
For improvement I would suggest a shorter time on the principles of awareness. I can't really think of anything else because I actually found everything else to be enjoyable.
Clarity on assignments. (What exactly do you want us to include in things like essays or the 'talk story' assignments)
Don't pick favorites!
Its cool. Amazing race was kinda long tho
Possibly, more in class time especially at the end of the semester with everything coming up to be due. The amazing race was fun, but i feel like there should be a different project that is maybe not as time consuming.
Work load got very heavy at end, maybe just understanding how much time some of the things (group project) takes to complete
Just to be a little more organized
it was fine how it is
To improve the course she could plan the syllabus better (or stick to the syllabus), if not, let us know what needs to be done some other way. Also, she should be more available through email or office hours, because it is difficult to contact her.
I don't think anything needs to be improved.
It was tough for Amy to maintain the class schedule due to so many holidays. The only thing i would recommend would be to explain certain assignments such as the study sessions alittle more thoughrouly instead of just mentioning it was we leave class
Maybe be a bit more focused
Teach more of the classes. A lot of classes were just student-led.
being there the day before the exams to give us a review session.
More Reviews over class material.
Slow down when she talks....

It was really enjoyable. Would definitely recommend this class to everyone
great
very good. I learned a lot and had fun doing the Amazing Race Project & ethnic food project. Amy came up with fun projects to help us learn. I enjoyed coming to class. I have the biggest fear talking in front of people, so this course gave me the experience and confidence I needed to overcome my fear. The work given was a fair amount. Her grading was very fair and good. She also made herself available to help her students.
this class is interesting and a fun way to learn about people.
super fun class. my favorite this semester
average
Great!
great ^^
Great
Although I enjoyed the people in the coarse, it is not what I imagined the class would be like.
good
Amy is one of my favorite teachers! She's enthusiastic, funny, a very good explainer, and makes you want to go to class. I learned a lot from her!
I loved this course. I was terrified of it because of the word "speech" at first but really it's more about communication and yes you give speeches but its really beneficial. Amy is a wonderful teacher and I really enjoyed her class.
It's a fun class that I think everyone should try go into. Amy is a charismatic teacher who does care for her students. You not only get an atmosphere that can be enjoyed but also a place where learning will happen. The work is at a moderate level and it's not hard to keep it up. Most of the activities are fun and teach you valuable lessons that will carry on in whatever field you go into. I highly recommend this class for any incoming freshman or sophmore students who want to get a good leg up on their competition.
Good teacher = Enjoyable class
Not bad pretty fun
Overall it was fun, however, I now have so many things to worry about just for this class alone. I felt some things were sprung on us last minute and its difficult with all my other classes.
A
Fun
a 7.5 out of 10. It was fun and interesting but I don't feel as if the time was used in the appropriate manner
this class was a ton of fun and i learned a lot. Amy walks the line of entertainment and education perfectly making her teaching method perfect.
very good
The course was very helpful to me personally. I learned a lot of new skills from practicing in class and the reading the book. Amy was very helpful and very knowledgable on the subject and was able to get her point accross very well.
It is a really fun and engaging course that allows you to get to know your classmates one-on-one, allows you to participate in discussions with out feeling intimidated, incorporates fun and worthwhile activities, and is fairly easy if you read and attend class regularly. Amy Wisner is a great teacher and makes the class enjoyable.
I really liked this class. It boosted my self confidence as well as made me feeling more comfortable in communicating with others as well as speaking in public.
it was fun and helped to raise confidence for public speaking.
really good
Didn't do much.
is great experience.. i wish i could get an A..
GREAT
She is incredible.....very funny and very helpful!

I would highly recommend this class and professor to anyone. Amy is awesome!

Amy is a great new teacher, she has a lot of enthusiasm and is always upbeat. Although she is young and has much to improve on as a teacher she made this semester enjoyable while teaching us in interesting ways that stuck more than just a book.
Awesome and entertaining class!
I couldn't be happier that I took this class from you.
thanks Amy for being our teacher!
Amy is a lot of fun to be around and I'm sure she will make improvements in her teaching style
I really like Amy Wisner as a teacher. She is easy to relate to and makes class entertaining and she makes the content of the course easy to understand.

7. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Learning how nonverbal communication is often used more in communication.
Learning how to better communicate with others, by evaluating verbal and non verbal signals.
Presentations
Learning about how language is so powerful and how we can use them to persuade people's persepectives.
I have never done a speech that lasted more than 5 minutes, so when Amy told us we had to do a presentation in front of the class for half an hour, I was a nervous wreck. Although we were given guidelines and samples to follow,it was still very scary to do a speech that long. It was a good thing that we had all the materials prepared for us and we had to base our powerpoint and presentation from the assigned chapter. i wanted to do well so I practiced everyday for three days till the very day I had to deliver my speech. this assignment was very helpful to me because it made me realize that I am capable of doing speeches like this. All I needed was self discipline, a positive attitude, and determination.
When we got to freely talk with each other it was very helpful and thought provoking.
I thought Amy's personality and teaching style made the course enjoyable. Also, I think made a conscious effort to make sure we left the class with better communication skills than when we entered.
I liked everything about the course.
The presentations and speeches because it helped develop our communication skills which will apply to our future life when we apply for jobs.
Discussions
The thirty minute presentation and the persuasive speech was excellent practice for public speaking. Not only the actual presenting but the preparation as well was a good experience. The group discussions were also very stimulating offering everyone a chance to say something. They were also great supplements to the lesson of the day.
Learning more about what kind of communicator I am and how I can improve to be even more effective.
I think everything we have learned while attending this class will play a significant role in our lives. Therefore I believe everything holds value from what we have learned in this class. When you think about it the majority of things that we have gone over in class have already happened during our lives, we just didn't realize what these terms were called at the time.
8. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
None, I enjoyed everything ;)
All parts seemed valuable
I think the least valuable aspect of the course was probably the talk stories because although it was relevant to what we were learning, it did not help me improve my speech skills. I have done story sharing for years and I know that the purpose of it is to make us open up and participate in class, but I did not feel like it was very valuable to me.
The teacher is better than the textbook so I'd say the textbook is the least valuable part but it's also the most expensive.
Exam 1
none
The textbook reading I found rather dull and didn't contain a lot of useful information.
To be completely honest, I am not sure considering the great teaching and educating experience we have gained from Amy Wisner, what exactly it is that is least valuable in this course.

19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I think you did a great job teaching us, so I dont really have any suggestions on how to improve this course.
Explaining some of the homework assignments more clearly. Also letting us know if we got credit for the assignments that we turned in.
More practice speeches

She can maybe incorporate a few group activities and or group projects for the students to bond and get to know each other. Not only can we improve our collaboration skills, we can also improve and strenghten our communication skills with one another. I don't think she shoud require us to make a powerpoint for each speech we give because although illustrations are good in enchancing a speech, it distracts the audience from focusing on the speakers. The speakers themselves, are already nervous and busy with giving the speech but has to split their attention to make sure they are showing the right slide and move around to play a video clip.
I think spending less time on the chapter presentations and the vocabulary words that we're never going to use would allow more time for useful things.
I can't think of anything
Insist on class attendence.

None, she's a fantastic teacher!
Honestly I think she should continue to do what she has been doing.I believe she is one of the best teacher by far I have ever had while attending college. I wish more instructors could be as caring and thoughtful as Miss Wisner.

Great! It was fun, and I enjoyed coming to class.
Speech 151 was a very interesting course and I feel that students who take this class are much better equipped to go about communicating in their lives.
Great class
I really enjoyed this class.
I had a lot of fun being in this speech class, and learned quite a lot throughout this course.
Some of the subject matter of the course seems worthless, like all the vocabulary and there are certain aspects that you would never encounter outside of a speech class. Having said that, it is a very good opportunity to get in front of people and practice speaking.
Its an enjoyablecourse.
Amazing course that I enjoyed to be part of and learned a lot about human communication.
This course is great overall. It is more fun than what I expected. Amy's teaching styles were varied and effective such as class discussions, presentations, different speeches.
Excellent
It was a fun experience that gave me a great introduction to the art of communication.
Wonderful teacher and I would suggest her class in particular to all of my friends. (:
If I were to grade this class I would definitely give it an A+ because of the teachers contribution to the course.

Thanks for a great class!
Speech 151 was super fun.
Whoever has amy as their instructor is in for a lot of fun and surprises!
Amy Wisner is very enthusiastic and engaged every single day.
Really enjoyed taking this class with Amy Wisner because of her great example, and she will be one of those instructors that I will always remember during my years in college.
Although I am a huge fan of Pictionary, I did not appreciate having to drive all the way to class just to play this game. In other words, I don't think that particular class was productive. But, most of the other classes were.
