Learned to drive a John Deere Tractor (basics only) Made a table for myself for a class project

i liked the fact that we learned all about the tractor and got to operate it

What i liked about this course was that we got to drive the Tractor, use the saw table, make tables, learn about the tractor and it was really fun!

What i liked about this class was we got to go to the model home and look around and see what we could do for the Landscaping. And we got to do hands on activities.

I liked the way we got first hand experience doing most of the projects.

Learned how to grow plants of different agriculutural types (broccoli, lettuce, cucumber,etc.) Interested to know how many kinds of fertilizers there were for plants and how they were administered.

what I liked about this course was that we did a lot of hands on activities, we got to go on field trip and learn new thing! It was really fun!

This course is very good.

What i liked about this class was well its hands on things its really fun climbing really high and using tools. It's fun just learning about this, never really thought i would get the chance to build a Green house. But overall it a nice experience!

I liked the way we did alot of activitie in the feild. This helped me learn the material alot better.

Well i liked that i got to learn about new plants and scientific name. What the plants are used for like tools and medicine. Now i can drive or walk around and name some of the plants that we learned.

This class was very interesting and fun. I liked learning about different pest management, controls of plant diseases, fungi, nematodes and weeds. I also loved the videos we watched about the underworld. It was fun learning about different insects, their lifecycle and how they either benefit or damage the plants. We looked at different insect under a microscope and had to identify which family group the insect belonged to, that was awesome.

We studied a lot of bugs under the microscope and had to identify them. We also studied weeds and made a collection to study and present to the class. We studied a variety of pest control methods for plants, weeds, and animals. Old techniques, new techniques, organic pesticides, traditional pesticides and how to properly use these methods. We were able to pick a pest, study it, write a report on it and present it to the class. We learned a lot from everyones individual reports.

Enjoyed all of Mr. Jacobsen's classes. We did a lot of work in all of his classes but it was worth it because the work was interesting and fun. I think it is because Mr. Jacobsen has great passion for what he does and enjoys every moment of it. He gives us confidence because he believes in us.

Mr. Jacobson is a great teacher; I notice how hard he works and how much he is willing to help us. Mr. Jacobson is easy to get along with and talk to. He is always there when I have a question and with all the hard work he does, I never heard him complain.

I liked learning about different marketing channels, how different businesses and stores do the handling, preparing and shipping their agricultural products.

In this class class i learn a lot of difference method and technique in marketing i love this class because of presentations that we are doing and learning about a good way of marketing that will help us in the future.

I like the fact that Mr. Jacobsen introduced us to Quickbooks. Owning your own busines, especially an agricultural business is not that easy and can be very risky. Mr.Jacobsen made us feel more confidant and he believes that we are able to be successful if it's what we really want to do. We looked at a variety of different marketing strategies and also studied the SBDC website. We were able to research an agricultural product of our choice and write a report on it and share it with the class. We studied agricultural marketing here in Hawaii, the U.S. Mainland, Holland and a few other places.

The best part was the videos that showed great examples of the course objective.

I liked learning about marketing, and presenting or projects and listening to our classmates presentation.

Chris is very understanding, you just have to be willing to keep that open communication. He is also very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his classes. He has visions that are going to improve the agriculture program at HawCC.

I liked being on the farm and work with vegetables, learning how to take care of them. I liked how we had the freedom to do experiments on our plots. Instead of reading from the book in class, I would have been more interested in an actual presentation/ lecture/ discussion. The book itself was complicated, repetitive and dry. The subject matter was interesting, but it was hard for me to understand when presented in the manner this book was written.

I will say less lectures. Maybe, more hands on learning or ask questions to class to provide more intrest on th topic.

We did labs on growing oyster mushrooms, which is the coolest thing ever. It was awesome to see mushrooms grow almost right before your eyes. I learned how to prepare the mix for mushroom procedure. They taste awesome too.

In the lab, I really enjoyed having my own garden plot on the farm. It was exciting to see how different every student's plot was and be able to learn from each other. We also learned useful and applicable information hand-on such as making IMO's, composting, and growing mushrooms. The hands-on aspect of this class was informative and enjoyable.

This atmosphere was always possitive. I also liked working outside.

I enjoyed working with a team of students to create beautiful landscape projects.

this class is fun we had to work outside a lot and we work as a team that makes this class a fun class. we made a lot of differences by helping cleaning our invironment to make it more beautiful=]

I learned that I could actually draw decent and draw to scale a landscape design plan. The model home that our class landscaped in Panaewa turned out beautiful and I'm sure the tenants will be very happy. They are also very fortunate to have a wide variety of plants in their landscape. The plants include; Cordyline terminalis, Cordyline terminalis(miss andrea/variegated), Phymatosorus scolopendria, Nephrolepis cordifolia, Catharanthus roseus, Breynia disticha, Metrosideros polymorpha, Aechmea blanchetiana, Colocasia esculenta and a few more. We also built a keyhole garden at Kamoleao. Our landscape project at HawaiÊ»i Community College was exciting. We finally got the opportunity to display the fountain that we made from semesters age (Jacobsen's first semester) This class was fun and exciting and a lot of hard work which felt good.

This class was awesome. I love landscaping and this class really satisfied my heart. We had a home to model, we build a key garden at the Kamoleao and we build a little flower garden with a fountain right on our campus. It was very fun and beneficial for me.

I liked our projects we did. We got to landscape a house and make a key garden at a community project landscape. This class was hard work, and fun!

Maybe be a little stricter, Mr Jacobsen. I know that's sacrilege for a student to say, but... I know one of the reasons I came to school was because I was having trouble self-motivating. I would like to see more daily exercises or worksheets or something to sort of keep me engaged on a daily basis so that I don't have the chance to start pushing things off and slipping. Being rigid with a note taking regime and really instilling that notion is something I would like in myself when it comes to record keeping.

I liked all of the activities we did on our farm. I liked working on my plot and taking care of it. We did a few fiel trips and that was fun. We did airlayering, cuttings and graphtings. I learned a lot in this class about plants and genesis types and propagations.

I would like to see more hawaii oriented stuff. It's hard to relate to corn and soybean forecasts out here. I would also like to see more class discussion time. The long bullet point presentations can become monotonous.

Enjoyed the class. It was really fun to experience growing your own plants without any outside help.

We had to do a business plan exercise and that was a really good thing to learn. We had to set up our own business plan as we would do in a real world. To me,l it was a learning experience and i enjoyed doing it, even through there was a lot of work needed to be done and a lot of committment.

I would really like a more philosophical approach to this subject. I think ethics and more alternative modes of commerce should be discussed. I think it is important to suss out the moral complications endemic to the world of business early on before bad habits can be formed. I really would like to see fewer, or at least shorter, power point lectures

I really saw a lot of growth in Mr. Jacobsen from last year. I saw someone try and succeed to fill a role as professor with not much prep time. There was a sharp learning curve and his interest in student life did not go unnoticed. The wonderful idea of the G.R.O.W. club and other such actions prove to me that Mr. Jacobsen is endeavoring to apply himself 100% to his position as educator. It's refreshing to see someone care about their job.

I would have done more on the learning of the tracter.

Improvement is not needed. Mr. Jacobsen has given us equal amounts of time for learning in the classroom as well as hands on assignments.

I wouldn't change anything. There is no need for improvement.Mr. Jacobsen did a wonderfull job in his first semester. I hope he continues to teach at the HCC.

I would learn more agriculture and natural farming techniques. I would ask students if they want a conference to see how they can improve their grade. Overall, I see Mr. Jacobson is trying and is doing well; especially considering this is his first semester teaching.

better lecturing

I would try to integrate more of the school colleges into one project and have everyone learn a little of everything. I would also have plots allotted to a student on entering the program. This would encourage a sense of ownership and foster some things along those lines, but mostly, it's because to learn most of the concepts and see things done in the real-world with the hands on approach some plants simply need more time to show their full life cycles. Not to mention all the other things going on with the soil. I think that assigning plots for the whole 2 years the program takes is the only way to go. I would also make the schedule more malleable. Persons have lives people!

I wouldn't change a thing. Mr. Jacobsen did an excellent job on his first semester of teaching our class.

I thought Jacobson was a very helpful teacher.

He teaches very well, stepping back and taking the time notice each students weeknesses and helping them to improve.

He did a great job. we learned alot of new things this semester.

Mr. Jacobsen is a smartand knowledgeable person. He use great methods to help us,the students, understand and learn the subject. He uses great examples and fun projects. He is very organized and always explaines things well. If needed, he wouldn't mind going beyond just to make sure we understood the course and how and what we need to do.

good over all. i enjoy the hands on class work and teaching, but he needs to improve lecture skill.

I honestly think Mr. Jacobsen is a really good guy that can teach people a lot from his stores of knowledge. I have a personal beleif that a teacher should be given all freedoms to hone their method and the student has the determining power of giving it credit by accepting that person as their teacher. What I think of the teacher is I would accept Mr. Jacobsen as my teacher again.

Mr. Jacobsen seems to be a reasonable person, fair and knowledgeable. If there is someting that he does not know very well he studies the subject matter and then he is prepared to teach it to us in class. Mr. Jacobsen has that extra charisma and motivation to work with his students to learn a wide range of skills.

Mr.Jacobsen was very patient with us when we practiced driving tractors. He is a fun and very reasonable teacher.

I think this school did a disservice to the teacher and to the students by leaving the position vacant until a week or so before the semester began. I would hope a university could at least appear to have it more together than that. It's not as though the retirement of Mr. Ikeda after 39 yrs. of teaching just came out of the blue, now is it?

He is an excellent teacher, why not keep him. We need good teachers. they make all the difference.

Shorten the class time.

I would not do any improvemet. Mr. Jacobsen knows so much and he was great in this course.

I'm not quite sure, however I enjoy more hands on learning rather than lectures.

Not a thing. Our class did an excellent job landscaping the model home in Keaukaha. Other students who did this landscaping class in the past said that our class did the best job and had the nicest landscape design.

Mr. Jacobsen is good with the students. He always spends a lot of time teachind us great things.

Wonderful teacher. Keep him. Very knowledgeable and what he does not know well he studies the subject matter and we all learn together in class.

Yes, i have gained hands on experience. I have also learned the theories of landscaping, and how they do not always apply in the real world. So you have to meet the challenge.

I always wanted to know how to prune plants and Mr. Jacobsen has taught me well.

I've learn various things, but a lot of the handouts are long and hard to remember with everything else.

Yes. Our landscaping project came out beautiful. We all had our opinions on how things should be done and it all worked out well. We grew a lot of plants and rejuvenated a lot on the farm that were just dying. Cleaned the greenhouses on the farm. We built a fountain from scratch. We mixed and poured cement to make the fountain and decorated it. You have to see it. It is beautiful.

I am not quite sure if i would change anything in this course. So far i think Mr. Jacobsen is doing a good job.

This is the class I would like to learn more about natural farming! I would teach natural farming to make a big difference. Local products, no chemicals, healthy food and a healthy environment. I'd say this is the best way to go with a Tropical Agriculture class.

I would improve this class by making the days shorter.

Not a thing. I grew Mei Quing Choi cabbage and Joi Choi cabbage. I had three harvest of each cabbage. Learned a lot from Mr. Jacobsen about insects that were eating my cabbage. I did all natural farming and Mr. Jacobsen was very knowledgeable on what products I could use for my natural farm and to take care of the pests.

I learned alot of new thins this semester.

Mr. Jacobsen always likes to look at our plots where we grow our vegetables. If needed, he always gives us ideas on how to improve our crop. He knows a lot about pests and he tells us which method works for different pest menagements.

Mr. Jacobson is a good teacher, and is trying hard to help us learn.

I like how these classes are really hands on. It allows you to learn about something, while constructing it.

He thought me about pests, soils and plants. How to work with them, what they need, and how to take care of them .

In agriculture we learn things that will help us save money. Such as, growing food, fixing things such as irrigation, welding, chain sawing etc. I think saving money by having the knowledge of all these things is like a job or maybe better.

Yes, this semester I learned alot about mushrooms or fungi. Not only what they are, but how to cultivate them.
