12. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Professor Kanehe is not a good teacher. Her course is unorganized, her emails short and rude, assignments are not graded, the information presented was very biased, and the resources for the course were not effective. Instead of exclusively using the website provided by the school(Laulima), Lea used googlesites to present the assignments and materials. This was very confusing because she had some work hosted on Laulima and some on her googlesites website. Also, part of the way through the semester she reached her limit on the googlesite and had to make a new one which contributed to my confusion. The course itself was unorganized, Lea would only put up the assignments one week before they were due, and she didn't seem to really be following a plan or anything. She changed her mind about assignments throughout the semester. The course would've been so much more organized if she used Laulima. I've taken several online classes and I honestly have to say that this was the worst online class that I've ever taken. Lea was not open for communication. I was hesitant when emailing her because she always made me feel like an inconvenience. I only emailed her with questions as a last resort. The only assignments that were graded were automated quizzes. I did not receive any grades for my assignments the whole semester. I felt like this was a self-taught course that I was taking. The professor was so disconnected and there was a total lack of communication. People posted in the discussion asking about assignments being graded and there was never any response from the professor, only from other students saying they had not had anything graded either. I was honestly excited about taking this course, I wanted to learn more about Hawaiian history and culture. However, the main theme of this course seemed to be how the US is evil. I understand the issues Hawaiian people are facing, but this course just focused entirely on that. It should've been called Contemporary Hawaiian Issues or something. Lea just used this course as her personal soap box to force her views on her students. I'm just so disappointed with this course. The resources used were ineffective. Lea provided powerpoints with lectures for the first few lessons, but after that she just gave powerpoints with no narration. What was the purpose of slides with just pictures and keywords with no elaboration? Did she just get lazy and give up? She also used a lot of youtube videos that were ineffective too.
Unorganized. Beginning of course some thing were mixed up. Too many tabs to do assignments. Missed some deadlines because of it. Material not centralized. Should have fewer assignments with more content.
Found it one sided. Hard to find the what all was needed to be done. But what i did find things were giving easily
good, interesting, makes you think
A great instructor and reasonably understanding. Friendly and willing to answer any questions students have.
The course an material giving for home work assignments or as a way to study were at times very jumbled and confusing. Once a solid system got put in place for links and assignments it got easier to follow and you didn't feel like you were jummping around from topic to topic.

18. What did you like most about your online course experience?
The only thing I liked about this course being online was the fact that I didn't have to attend class every week and listen to this professor because I probably would've dropped the class.
nothing.
a lot of work, worth it. Deepened my sence of knowledge on current issues pertaining to our culture.
i really liked how we were able to see the assignments in advanced so that we could pace ourselves or go ahead if we wanted to.
learned a lot about the culture
I liked the material that we covered and the way the topics were presented. I really must say I learned a lot about things I thought I knew but did not know the entire truth behind it.
19. What did you like least about your online course experience?
*Unorganized *Information not easily located *Terrible course resources used *Assignments that didn't seem to serve any helpful purpose *Confusing layout of the site - about 30 side links. - Two links for discussion and quizzes - very confusing. *Professor did not communicate, with online courses communication is so necessary, but there was a total lack of it. *Professor didn't seem to know how to use Laulima and didn't want take time to learn it.
Did not get grades back in a timely manner.
that my grade was never giving when i have 2 weeks left in semster. I sitll have no clue what my grade is.
a lot of work, long videos, off site feildtrip (only because I work and have children)
the way its is set up, which isn't to do with the instructor, but with her site team/helper. In the start it was a tad confusing, but I got used to it quickly enough and things got more organized.
the amount of assignments
there were too many tabs in the laulima site. i found myself spending more time going through tabs that were not needed than i did some of the course assignments. it was too confusing to find things. even discussion tabs were put into a format where it took several minutes to get to a reply link; the time it took though minutes sounds as if it was not a big deal, add up really quickly and over the course of the semester it was quite frustrating. assignments did not come back in a timely manner and it was difficult to assess progress or running grade.
The way the material was presented. There were a lot of technical errors and minor problems but we eventually came over it and got a good system down.
20. Global appraisal: Considering everything how would you rate this COURSE?

21. Other comments:
Very disappointing course overall. Felt like it was a complete waste of time. Being forced to take this course for my major made me feel like I was being punished. I wish I could've taken a different course or had a different professor. I would NOT take another course by the same professor. I would NEVER recommend this professor to anyone else.
