| Need to see more administration and student government support in the Political Science department. More information provided to the community and new students on the importance on understanding the importance on engaging in our community and government, and helping our upcoming

supporting our community and government leaders, as they determine the path of our future generations. Political Science instructors like Malia Davidson contribute immensley, by empowering students to persevere,strive and engage. It's teachers like her, that keep me coming back every semester. |

6. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
|
| I never quite understood why governments could not get their act together, or why our own government seemed to of been so wishy-washy on some issues and totally hard core on others. This class gave me the opportunity to look at our world with an open mind and to see that we are first of the human race, then our nationality and ethnic origin. I believe I am leaving the class a more humble and grateful person for what I have and what I don't have to experience like those in less developed countries. |
| I learned that as diverse people, we have diverse beliefs. However when we're put together in an open, friendly environment, a mutual respect can be created. Your opinion is yours, and mine is mine. |
| I learned that it doesn't necessary take a band of people to make a
difference in our world. All it takes is one individual with enough
knowledge, determination and mental drive to make a difference. |
| In this course we were active participants in the 2010 primary and general elections. Being a main
interviewer to the candidates really made the process of politics more REAL and gave me more of a
reason to get involved. |
| Awareness of our county's surrounding and how we all play a part to influence our economics and lifestyles. |
| I developed more of an awareness of what is going on in our world and how it is run. It motivated
me to want to be more involved with what goes on in the world and in our community, and not just
obtain the information to get the grade. I will always think of this class and what I learned
throughout my entire life because politics effects every aspect of it, and I want to make a significant
change for the better in this lifetime. |

| I enjoyed the videos she had us watch. All pertained to the subjects at hand, and allowed us to see that there are others who are putting themselves in danger for what they believe in. For her to improve on the course, I would suggest more projects if possible. She allowed us to participate in the elections and grouping the students for chapter discussion and presentation was right on. |
| I only wish that our book had been a little less daunting. I'm not sure that everyone in the class read each chapter completely. |

20. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?

| I totally enjoyed writing the weekly report and participating in the elections. Ultimately though, it was the actual interaction of the students as groups which I really, really, enjoyed. This interaction allowed us to present our thoughts regarding what's happening in the world. |
| I LOVED our involvement in the election coverage. Even though it didn't really apply to our specific course, it really brought us together as a class and fostered friendships amongst students. It also gave us a chance to really get involved in things that are normally much greater than ourselves. |
| Group discussions were the best because we got to learn about what was
important to each person in our class. |
| I appreciated Malias ability to personalize causes. If there was ANYTHING we were interested in,
Malia could bring it into a political light and make us aware of how we could be involved. |
| The way the instructor opened our percepective with related topics that made it easier for our class to understand. |
| I liked being apart of the primary and general election coverage for the state and county. It was a
great experience to learn what our leaders intentions are up close and personal, and also to ask
them questions that we thought were relevant to the people of Maui.
I also liked the videos Malia would show about different issues in the world. I never felt so intensely
about world affairs and it made me feel very emotional a lot of the time, which made me realize the
importance of this knowledge in my life. |

| I think this course is a MUST for anyone who doesn't quite understand the workings of government. Malia knows her material and is able to bring to us her experiences which makes the course relevant. |

| I came into the class thinking it was going to be boring and stuffy. I also came in with tunnel vision. As an instructor, Malia is outstanding. She has so much to offer in terms of being aware of politics, local, national or international. She introduced us to TED, pretty cool, and presented to us that everything is relative to ourselves in the political arena.
