13. What did you like about this course, such as activities, projects, assignments, etc.?

I like Tambra Fry as an instructor. Unfortunately she doesn't teach the class. This class is online and I find it a very ineffective method for such important detail.

Feedback and workload

I enjoyed the Salvation Army and Psyche clinical rotation. I liked how we would go over things together as a group with Tambra after clinical. It helped to have the face to face time to discuss and go over Psyche concepts and meds, and "de-brief" about our day and our patients.

Clinicals, lectures and readings complimented eachother well to facilitate student learning.

The readings and clinical experience was great. Kept me on my toes in staying up to date with the latest mental health disorders and it was interesting to actually talk n care for patients with mental illnesses.

i liked all the activities and different types of activities to make the learning fun and full of variety.

14. Any suggestions to improve this course?

This should never be an online course. Kathleen has created a course that I find less than effective in "teaching" vital information.

This course should be in class NOT ONLINE class.

Have more tests or regular assignments during the semester because it is not effective to have only midterm and finals as majority of grade. An open book online test would be a helpful teaching tool to keep students working on subject but with low stress as it is open book and maybe make it open for like a week.

It needs to be in person and not online.

Make it a classroom lecture, not online.

Specify more in rubrics on what should be included in assignments.

15. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?

By actually teaching the entire course. Kathleen is not an effective instructor and it is all her material with much of it being incorrect.

Tambra for the most part was great.

I believe teaching this course was done very efficiently.

16. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?

Tambra is down to earth and explains thing in a manner that I can understand. I wish all of my instructors could follow her lead. She is amazing.

Current experience and up todate knowledge of nursing

She offers instruction and seems very committed to her role as teacher. She is very accessible, approachable, and offers encouragement- which is hugely important and lacking in the nursing program. I've learned alot from her.

Tambra went above and beyond to help us learn material especially because we did not have a face-to-face lecture. I appreciate the extra effort she put into making sure we understood the material and would clarify any misunderstandings.

Very helpful and allow me to think critically for myself at the same time.

17. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the instructor?

Nothing.

Sometimes it seems that she focuses on the smaller less important tasks when a bigger problem is at hand, maybe try to choose battles more selectively

Being late 10-15 minutes in the morning for clinicals.

I found everything valuable and helpful.

18. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.

There needs to be a classroom setting for the course.

Course needs better quality and more current lectures and papers (ie drug list), an impersonal class lectures would be helpful or even video ie YouTube. I think Tambra's charisma would make her a good lecturer

Course should be in person. Tambra's style and methods are good.

Make it a classroom lecture course.

I have no suggestions other than to specify a bit more on what to be included in some assignments. Other then that assignment I found everything a positive learning and valuable experience to my futurte career.

22. What did you like most about your online course experience?

Nothing.

Did not like that it was online. The lectures Kathleen have recorded need to be done over again because the volume is WAY TOO LOW!!!! Her lectures are decent, but it was soooo difficult to have to strain so hard to hear hear- it was a bummer.

I did not like the online course.

I liked that i could read the lectures n listen to them on my own time instaed of attending class.

Variety of teaching that was effective and time efficient.

23. What did you like least about your online course experience?

It needs to be conducted in-person

Lectures hard to listen to due to poor sound quality and pauses and drawn out speech

It is ridiculous to do Psyche online. It definitely should be a face to face class in person with group interactions, etc... Absolutely! If anything should be online, it should be 260.

Lecture powerpoints were hard to hear, understand and conflicted with information in the book readings.

I liked everything.

I think Tambra should take over the course and do HITS. It would be much more effective. The stuff Kathleen posted you cant hear it, it's too soft and sometimes you cant even get it to open.

Hate the On-line lecture... Kathy's voice makes me sleepy.

I like that it's online and I like when different questions are assigned to different groups of people so we all learn the material but the workload is appropriate for a one credit course.

Discussions were interacting and fun.

The subjects/modules were sectioned well. All the information was overwhelming. So, having the information given in sections was an effective way to learn.

None. She is an excellent instructor that is approachable, kind and highly intelligent. She is a perfect example of what an instructor should be like. She gives guidance, good constructive criticism that helps build growth and development each day with her.

Very professional and caring. Fair, and doesn't put you down. Instead she provides guidance and allows her students to problem solve and think critically!!

A lot to write about for a one credit class sometimes

ATI citation requirement. I feel like it impeded people from sharing their thoughts and feelings more openly, because then they would have to cite their rationale, etc.. i.e. it would cause more work. So I think it kept things more superficial than they would have been if people could speak their mind more freely, without having to then quote some other work to support their point of view. What happen if it's actually a new idea or new concept?

Some people made wrote comments inappropriate reponses. I disliked how people used happy faces or emoticons. Inappropriate comments not related to course material, and emoticons reduced the learning value of the course.

13. What did you like about this course, such as activities, projects, assignments, etc.?

In the nursery was where the most learning took place.

I liked that Tambra made the nursery portion of our rotation very informative and a great learning experience. I also appreciated the orientation to the unit on the first day.

I enjoyed being in the nursery and being able to witness many healthy babies as well as a few that had complications.

I enjoyed the class activity that included being in a group with children and recognizing the stage of development the child is in. Identifying the child's action also correlated to the stage the child is in.

14. Any suggestions to improve this course?

Longer rotation and interaction with doctors more.

I think going over the nursery flowsheet and what is expected to be done in the nursery would help other students a lot more.

The paperwork should be worth points

More orientation to the nursery environment before we are expected to carry out intake and assessments of newborns would be helpful, including the EMR and paperwork procedures.

I have no suggestions in improving this course.

I enjoyed this course with Tambra because she was very enthusiastic about whatever she taught. She enabled me to think critically but also help guide me in to the right direction with clear and understandable instructions. She was a pleasure to work with at clinicals and in class. To bad she doesn't lecture for class. I feel like she would do a great job in lecturing because she's very informative and it was easy to talk to her. She also is a great advocate and I like that she takes the time to sit down and talk to us about what she see us lacking and allows us to think about what we can do to better ourselves so we can deliver safe and effective care to our patients and family.

I enjoyed doing simulations and debriefing after the simulation to evaluate the care that was just provided.

I liked my nursery rotation with Tambra. I was terrified of this rotation but Tambra made it a great learning experience by showing me how to correctly and carefully care for newborns and let me perform care on my own under her supervision. Our paperwork for nursery was set up very well for our learning and EMR recording and I appreciated that a lot.

The clinical competency exam should be in the beginning of the semester rather the end because it is sad to see someone work super hard and fail the course d/t a a math test. Its such a heart breaker when that happens.

Review with the students what is expected of them when they are at the nursery. Explain the nursery flowsheet and what is a routine assessment.

I feel the clinical competency exam should be at the beginning of the semester, especially because it is a pass or fail out of the program exam. I felt some sim days were not organized and a waste of time. The other sim days that were organized were a great learning experience.

Tambra's positive and enthusiastic attitude helped me to look forward in seeing her and being around her. She communicated on what she expected us to do in the beginning and then allowed us to tell her what our plan was for patient care, which is awesome. She allowed me to think critically but also she was willing to help if needed. I never felt like she would turn her back on me when I had a question to ask. I really feel that the teachers make a big difference in how each student grow and thrive in the HCC ADN program. She is awesome and a valuable asset to the program.

I enjoyed the hands-on approach of leading community meetings, volunteering at community support centers, and leading activities on the mental health unit.

The reading materials were very helpful for this course. The media analysis paper was very interesting to do and allowed me to put to use of what I have learned.

I liked the prep work for medications, side effects, and psych disorders that we did at the end of clinicals each day.

The activities, projects, and assignments for this course were appropriate, and if done correctly, very helpful in mastering the content. Since the theory portion of this class was online, it really required a lot of self- motivation. Therefore, in a class such as this, it is very important that the assigned readings be relevant and informative; and they were.

Tambra was very helpful in our clinical experience. She motiaved us to learn and pass the course. She was very thorough with our paperwork and documentation.

This course was well prepared and had straight forward answers to what instruction were to each project, care plan, etc.

Going to the psych rotations was very valuable as I learned a lot about what I was reading in the assigned chapters for the course.

The clinical experience was amazing, as well as the activities that were conducted with the various patients.

The main thing I enjoyed about this course was learning from Ms. Fry! She is an amazing instructor, always prepared and eager to help her students.

14. Any suggestions to improve this course?

I did not care for the online lectures. I would rather have a face to face interaction, especially for a course like this.

I enjoyed the course very much. What you are doing is working well to help students to understand material and become prepared for communicating with all types of patients in a variety of clinical settings.

Incorporate more medication administration into the clinical setting. Have a live lecture.

Maybe there is a friendlier way to correct students of their mistakes.

Try to incorporate an activity into the schedule on wednesdays that the students perform with the patients of the units.

I really feel this class should be an on-site class taught by Ms. Fry. She has such a wealth of information, it's a shame HCC doesn't take advantage of her talents & knowledge. I found the on-line lectures not helpful when studying for the exam. In fact, it was mainly from being on the clinical floor with Ms. Fry and her worksheets which helped me pass the test.

a live lecture would be SO much nicer! It is not motivating to log onto laulima every week to listen to a psych lecture. I learn much better in a classroom setting.

15. Other comments:

Tambra Fry was an exceptional instructor. She displayed compassion, and concern for us students as well as our patients. She went out of her way to explain subject matter that we had difficulty understanding. I felt that she truly wanted us to be excellent nurses, and did her best to assist us in working toward this goal.

Tambra is a very positive, supportive instructor. I really enjoyed having her as my instructor. She was always prepared and knew about the topic that we discussed. She provided additional learning materials that helped me a lot.

Mrs. Fry is an invaluable clinical instructor who is sensitive to the students learning needs. She is committed to the learning process and assists the students in finding what works best for them. Her confidence in her students in the clinical setting does not prevent her for intervening when necessary. She is always prepared to answer questions, and provides guidance when needed. She also prepared worksheets for us to use in post-conference that were very helpful to us. She also understood that because this was an online course we would probably have questions from our readings and our lectures so she was always willing to help us resolve our misunderstandings. I would have the clinical instructors collaborate to prepare exams so the same content can be implemented during clinical days.

I think that Tambra did well in her new role as a clinical instructor. She was very apporachable and always encouraged students to apply themselves to their work. She took the time to look over paperwork and provided pertinent constructive criticism.

Tambra is great at teaching us about the concepts we needed to know and helped us by giving us handouts and small little practice worksheets to work on our therapeutic communication, and gave us important feedback on our paperwork. she is very detailed oriented and a great teacher. I wish she taught us the lecture portion too instead of just the clinical portion.

yes she has and helped us improve on whatever we needed to fix and clearly explained to us important information.

Tambra did an excellent job as our clinical instructor. She provided a positive learning enviornment and took the time to listen to all of her students concrens or questions.

She is a great teacher and has empathy towards us being a nursing student because she was once where we are now. she gives great insight to the subject matter and wants you to be a critical thinker.
