11. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
Not to believe everything I read in regards to nutrition without proper evidence.
Nutrition knowledge
I'm more aware of the foods I eat and shop for.
What kind of diet I need to follow in other to get to my goal, either loss weight or gain muscles mass. Personally everything about this class will benefit me. I already start understanding better how my supplements work.
A good background toward furthering my nutrition education and a basic overview of different types of nutrition.
I personally enjoyed the clinical and political tid bits that David would bring up. It allowed for a better understanding of the basic nutrition knowledge, and also expanded my own knowledge on nutrition beyond the biochemical aspect.
Few classes offer information that I can use in my every day life. David was excellent at relating class materials with our everyday life, like our eating habits. He made class enjoyable and fun just by his enthusiasm, even if the materials that day was less interesting than others. It is always a pleasure to learn from someone else who displays extreme passion and interests for the topic.
I learned a lot of things that will help me formulate a better diet for myself, and it was a nice overview and introduction to the subject so I can make better food choices for myself and be more health conscious.

24. Comment on the instructor's professional attitude and behavior.
He was always patient and willing to take the time to explain concepts when students had questions. He was very professional and on time with class.
Good
He's a great teacher. Always dressed professionally.
Really pro, and awesome behavior at anytime.
Very professional attitude towards teaching that I enjoyed coming from a fellow graduate student. He kept it professional enough to be respectable but casual enough to relate to the students as an audience.
he has a very fun, professional, and refreshing attitude and behavior.
I liked how he was very excited about nutrition and it made the subject interesting for me. He also answered any questions the class had and if he didn't know the answer he would often go and look it up for us. He also kept us updated on things that went on in the nutrition world that he had mentioned previously in class which I thought was interesting because it does show how the knowledge of nutrition is changing everyday.
25. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
For an introductory course, I cannot think of any improvements.
More in depth talks
n/a
No improvements needed. Except maybe try to incorporate some hands-on activities or models to break up the monotony as opposed to straight lecturing.
more activities like jeopardy, maybe before each exam?
I did like the course although I thought it was very general, but then again it was an introductory course. Although it was interesting, I didn't find the course very hard or challenging so I wanted a little more depth in the subject. I thought the homework assignments were good because they made us evaluate our diet and I would have liked more work to go into that.
26. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
that he did an excellent job of keeping the course as simple as possible, but also added his expertise when relevant.
Great
Keep up the great work!
Awesome, that was the most interesting and fun required class I ever had to take. He should definitely keep teaching this class, so we can recommend it to other friends.
One of the best teachers I have had in a while. He is very clear, interesting and Wants his students to excel.
Very knowledgeable and well prepared for each and every lecture. He was interested in all of the questions the students had. I enjoyed learning from him.
I thought I would hate the class because the course material is so far away from my field of interest, but David made it extremely interesting by showing his own passion for it, and relating it to my life and how I live everyday.
He was a good professor and I learned a lot from his class. I enjoyed going to class and I felt that he was both interested in the subject as well as the students; he had good knowledge of the course content so I felt he was well informed and that he was a good source of information. He was entertaining, too, which made learning enjoyable.

31. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The lectures were very interesting and applicable to life.
All
I can apply the things I learned in this class to real life.
All
I felt that the course was very consistent, nothing was unexpected. Everything was very organized and easy to follow.
32. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Although it cannot be helped, I didn't like coming to class everyday during the morning. Maybe the class can be offered a little earlier in the morning so I don't cut through work time.
Exams
n/a
NONE
I felt that there was a lack of relating the nutrition information to real time situations/ hands on activities.
33. Other comments:
Overall, a great learning experience!
none
As having already took this course once before, I really enjoyed it the second time around. I would strongly recommend David as a teacher. The class is well structured and you can gain a lot of knowledge from it.
I really appreciated his fast responses to emails and how he made time for individualized questions and meetings after class.
I was very glad that I took this class because I feel that it can help me improve my diet, and also it was fun.

10. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
Food is not to be taken lightley
I learned how to shop in a supermarket and make well informed choices when choosing food, and other snacks.
He was very thorough as he was teaching the course. I believe he is an extremely effective professor. Even though he may appear to enjoy talking, I think the way he goes over material previously learned in the course and how he constantly reminds the class of old material is a great tool for teaching students.
I think that I will be a more knowledgeable consumer and make better food choices.
Understanding the effects energy balance has on my body, also knowing about essential nutrients has been beneficial to me personally.
Everything! I can honestly say everything I learned will have some benifit in later life.
Learning about the effects of food
Everything!
Making better food health choices.
From this course I will now be able to choose healthier foods for my family and I. I can dissect foods and analyze their nutritional values.
exact daily calorie intake that i can now keep track of instead of contstant guessing

19. Comment on the instructor's professional attitude and behavior.
he has a positive attitude
Class was fun and enjoyable.
Great attitude towards the class and material he teaches. He has a lot of enthusiasm for the material which keeps my attention and makes me want to really pay attention and take in what he's teaching.
He seems to enjoy teaching.
very enthusiastic about the subject, always wants to help
Very passionate about the course, extremely knowledgeable and great person to ask questions to.
David is the best teacher I have ever had at the college level.
Always ready to teach and had a good attitude every class
David was really nice and seemed genuinely interested in what he was teaching to the class
He has good attitude and behavior - very positive and he is always willing to teach us everything in detail.
Very professional & formal
I really liked having David as my teacher for this class. I could tell he tried to keep it interesting for us by doing those grocery store things which he probably took out his own time for. He was very enthusiastic about the class which was good because the material sometimes got really dry.
very proffessional attitude. treated students fairly and like adults
very knowledgeable and willing to help
20. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
take it slow a bit
I personally think that Mr. St-Jules was well prepared for class. Although he said uhm a lot, it was mainly because of the complexity of the material that he was conducting.
n/a
More hands on class exercises like the nutrient one (where things were passed out to each student ie: sugar, coke etc).
This class was great as is, I looked forward to attending class every day which is a first.
Keep the lectures interesting to keep students focused
Im not too sure if he was aware, but he would end class >5minutes later than when it was supposed to end. This was a slight problem since some of us may have other commitments after class like other classes, job, etc. and it may have been a little disruptive to the other students if some people left during lecture.
It would be better to have a 'review day' for the exam. Sometimes there are just too much to memorize!
None....teaching style/methods are fine
I really enjoyed the grocery store tours and the activities. It broke up the monotony of the powerpoint lectures. However, I personally enjoyed the powerpoints and think that maybe if he were teaching this class during a regular semester that he not make the powerpoints available to the students to encourage them to come to class and take notes.
more activites to help memorization of difficult topics
more times offered fro grocery store tour
21. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
great
=D
He is a great professor.
very good professor, like how he tries to explain things so that everyone can understand (not just the science majors)
Very good professor
Excellent I learned a lot.
He knows what he's talking about
I really like this professor. He was really nice and friendly and explained all concepts clearly
He's a great professor overall.
Very good lecturer/professor. Very interesting and engaging.
He is a very nice and helpful instructor. I would recommend him to any friends of mine that would be interested in taking the course.
wonderful - hope to take a class with him again!
22. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
powerpoints
the lectures, the assignment about our dietary log
Toxicity of different Minerals and Vitamins.
The way that the material was presented in a "lecture format" however communicated in a way that made it feel like we were talking to an old friend. Easy to learn instead of memorize.
Didn't really have a favorite aspect
I really appreciated the study guides because they were a MAJOR help with the tests.
The powerpoints have all the information which helped a lot in my studying. Assignments were straight forward.
Physical sciences section
I liked how we learned about the theoretical stuff and also learned how it affects our lives. I can actually use a lot of the information I learned in this course in everyday life, and that is what I think we are supposed to get out of college.
powerpoints available on laulima that could be printed and used to follow professor during lectures
23. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
not many videos
n/a
Converting!!
This class was great.
Not sure
n/a food science in general was always interesting to me
Exams were hard.
First sections of the course.
I didn't like having to come everyday. But it is a summer school course and theres a lot of material to be covered, so just gotta suck it up.
buying the textbook
guest lecturers were not as prepared/good as David
24. Other comments:
he rocks
no other comments, just maybe make sure class ends on time.
None
I really liked this course. I took it as a taste of what food science and human nutrition major would be like, and I am interested in taking more courses like this.
thank you!
