4. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
The time taken to make sure that the material is understood and the teachers help is available whenever it is needed.
getting prepared for nursing
I found everything valuable in this course.
Jonathan Kalk helped me to believe in myself that I can learn math. He made the material easy to follow, and focused on what was important. He allowed me to strive to continue to do my best, and he had faith that I would. Math is difficult for me to learn, but with mymathlab, the problems were very clear. It is a great homework website.
What I find most valuable and helpful about the course is that it isn't strictly math-related; there are things that really get people to think about the situation rather than getting the answer to a question. The course itself, I believe, blends with science, math, and English in a way that all three subjects encourage students to think critically and evaluate the problem rather than tackling the problem right away. Talking to people from higher math classes, I realized that this course blends with the other classes, which adds to a more enriching learning experience.

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He makes himself available to help out students and always take the time to explain the material in a variety of ways.
the most valuable about him is that he is concern about his students
That he is open and willing to help anybody in and out of class. Jonathan Kalk is also very understanding and makes math fun.
He explains math problems in different ways, relating them to different situations. It really helps me to understand.
What I find most valuable and helpful about Jonathan Kalk is that he is always encouraging his students to work through the problems in a logical way. He has also stated that while finding the correct answer is nice, it isn't the most important thing when given a question. The way to get the answer is what matters. In high school, I've been taught that I needed to get the right answer and that's it. In Kalk's class, it seems that the right answer isn't the main thing to focus on, which does impact my way of thinking but it has impacted me in a good way. I appreciate Kalk's enthusiasm in teaching his students as well.
18. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
The speed of the class was fast and the homework was a heavy load.

I suggest that Jonathan Kalk should keep up with students participating in groups because it strengthens the bond of the students and the students are learning from the material presented in class. I really don't have any criticisms on Kalk's teaching style and methods because his class has taught me some things that I didn't learn in high school. Maintaining what he is currently doing will definitely help the students who will be taking this course in the future.

4. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
The provided resources with summarized notes, the study guides, and the use of technology
I found the use of critical thinking to be most valuable and helpful about the course. Jonathan Kalk reinforced that in order to fully compute statistics, rather than getting a set of answers, a person must interpret the data. Not only did this math class helped me in learning new things, it also enhanced my ability to judge information by what's given.
Just the fact I learned a lot of new things. Although math is hard it was good I took it.
The online Mymathlab system to complete homework assignments was very easy to follow and very helpful.
Having the charts available to understand the formulas.
It made me see math in real life terms and understand it more.
Mr. Kalk took the time to go over the material and represented it in a way that was understandable.
the handouts were extremely helpful and mr kalk's enthusiasm made class entertaining and concepts easier to understand.
Everything was valuable and very helpful especially for the career that I am majoring in.
interesting
I no longer have trouble with word problems, and am able to fully understand what it is actually asking me.
Thorough lessons, the ability to have a teacher who would meet with you when you had questions or concerns over the homework, and a fun class environment.
This course really made me be critical of ideas. I sometimes can be a very literal person, but it made me think outside the box and to really think things through.

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He was available outside of class and he provided many extra credit opportunities.
I found Jonathan Kalk's readiness to help students out on their homework and assignments to be most valuable and helpful. He oftentimes has an answer for everything that the students ask him, and it helps increase the learning environment.
The tutoring lab when we needed help or his office and we can email him questions we had
He is very approachable and very knowledgeable about Math. He made learning fun, and suggested ways that I could improve. Math has always been a difficult subject for me, and Jon made me never give up and allowed me to believe that I will pass this class.
Great teaching techniques.
He really took his time to be sure we all understood what he was teaching and he put everything in real terms so we could relate more and he taught us how to use new tools for math that I will forever be grateful for!
He made himself available to asnswer questions and get help when needed.
one on one interaction, vast knowledge in the subject, positivity and enthusiasm
He takes the time to explain clearly the answers to the questions that I ask him. He does not get frustrated or impatient with me either.
helpful
Open about asking for help via email or tutoring. Thoroughly explains the material of the class and provides good examples on how it would relate to nursing later on in the future.
Math has never been my strong suit, I always struggled so I can't say I was entirely thrilled to be taking 2 math classes in 1 semester however Jon made this challenge a lot easier by always wanting us to do well, he was always willing to meet us after class if we ever had questions, he's quick to respond to emails. Honestly, it's his true passion for the class that really showed through. He's very knowledgeable in this subject, I can say that with a 100% positivity, he's very thorough with his lessons and really wants us to grasp the concepts and not only grasp but understand them too.
He is very approachable, and is very helpful. He thoroughly explains things that someone doesn't quite understand. He really gets through to you.
18. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
He needs to consider the students who are more visual learners.
Provide the statistics project for the final instead of an extra credit assignment and have us start it at the beginning of the semester. I really wanted to do the assignment but I didn't want to stress over it if it was optional. Also, a little less lecturing and more time to solve problems and check for understanding with the students.
In improving the course, if a student were to take two math classes in one semester (the previous being Math 75, which took half of the semester), I would suggest that the Math 115 class to be more packed with information. The class was a bit behind on schedule (but not by much), so Jonathan had to remove some information he really wanted to teach the students.
More hands on and a little bit more broken down on subjects
Spend more time in each chapter.
N/A He is such a great teacher! He did an amazing job at teaching everything we needed in such a compact amount of time!
Have a better flow of the course material. If there is something that needs to be taught for the homework or a test and it is not taught then it is hard to do good on the task that we have not learned yet.

Longer class periods, i felt like every class was a rush, and noticed that near the end of every class we always had to squeeze in what we needed to learn for that day; i feel that about a 2hour 30 min - 3 hour class would be more effective.
I think the only thing I can say was definitely include the project next time as a grade and not extra credit. If it's one thing about projects, it gives us a chance to really show you how much we really understand the concepts and are able to do them in our own experiment. The project you have is a really good one, it covers the entire statistic standards and also makes a good review for a test.

4. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
This class has made me more aware of misleading information often released in print and other forms of media that I often didn't think too carefully about and generally believed. Now however I have the skill set to carefully analyze statistical reasoning and draw my own conclusions based off of actual data.
I found the probability section most helpful because I feel like I will need that later for my career choice.
I learned how to involve statistical interpretations to life situations.
although this class wasn't my best class, it did make me think outside the box when we worked on different chapters.
I enjoyed taking a math course unlike any I have previously taken. I never thought I would enjoy it as much as I did!
Learning how to do most of my work on StatCrunch and by hand.
Real life examples helped me process the math ( I'm not good at math)
The use of technology
To read book and analyze problems.
Learning how to use stat crunch
My math lab
The course was very helpful on knowing what to expect in the real world. Plus there were many things that I didn't know what had to pretend to us people for the real world. This course along with another course has made a BIG impact on how things could or be later in my years.
How to actually do research with acuracy
I learned a lot and it will help me in my nursing career.
Study sessions
The handouts and the way that my teacher taught the course made it very understandable and appliable.
This class has taught us a lot of information that will actually be helpful in real life. It has taught us to be skeptical of information that is reported. Additionally, it has taught us to read clinical studies and actually make sense of them which will be extremely helpful in the field of nursing.
The textbook used was very helpful and easy to understand. The online materials used (StatCrunch and MyStatLab with Pearson) was well explained and simple to use as well. Professor Kalk's help and availability along the support from fellow students was very encouraging and aided in my comprehension of the covered materials.

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Professor Kalk was extremely willing to answer any questions my classmates and I had about the material and often encouraged that we send him emails and meet with him if we thought is was necessary. He is highly capable of using different methods of explanation and providing excellent visual examples so that I always felt confident in my knowledge of the subject matter. I would take all of his classes if it were possible.
The fact that he was willing to spend endless amounts of time with his students to make sure we understood the material. I also found it very helpful how quick he was to respond to emails. He was very passionate about his job and extremely helpful the whole semester.
He is willing to help you when needed and further explains to you if you don't understand the first time.
The most valuable and helpful thin I found about Mr.Kalk was, that he made us feel comfortable to ask questions, and even if we didn't ask questions he was able to see that some people of the class didn't understand.(counting me)
I was dreading taking this class but taking it with Mr. Kalk, he made it fun & kept it interesting! I would definitely recommend him to anyone & would take another course from him. He knows his stuff & is very enthusiastic about his work which makes him a great teacher to learn from!
He was always there to go to for help.
His desire to help people comprehend and enjoy the subject.
He's open to any questions and suggestions.
Having group study.
Very knowledgable about the subject
Kalk has many valuable and helpful things to make me have a better understanding of the course and that things were on a rocky road and as semester gone on things got a little better of knowledge to know what to expect for the materials or lecture on each chapter that was being teach in class.
Very nice and cares about each student
You can always count on him when u have questions and problems. Just email him & he'll have answers for you. He was always willing to help when you don't understand the problems. The Group studies that he makes are also helpful for students when they are having hard time.
The time he took out outside of class to help us
He made time for us to have study groups with him to go over the things that we were unsure about. He also explained the topics thoroughly so it was easy to understand them.
Mr Kalk is a great teacher. He really cares about his students success. If there is something that you don't understand he will present it in a way that you do understand. This is a tough subject but Mr Kalk teaches this class in a very non-intimidating way which makes it much easier to understand.
Professor Kalk was very helpful. He is a great teacher who is very thorough and effective in his teaching methods. He was always available to answer any of our questions, and encouraged us to do our best.
18. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Nothing comes to mind.
Help explain star crunch a little better and allow to use stat crunch skills table during tests because some are hard to remember.
I thin to improve the course and Mr. Kalk is, more group discussions and homework examples. And on Pearson there is this think to help us with the homework "view an example" and the way he shows us to do it in class and the way they show us on Pearson is really different.
I have no suggestions, I like his current methods and wouldn't change it.
none.
none
More use of examples. Less use of technology.
Provide more materials for students to understand the lessons.
More lively/interactive lectures
There is not a thing that should be improved on Kalk's teaching even though it was his first semester on teaching, but it was really interesting how things came to be of what I have learned from Kalk.
More days in class instruction

Great class & great teacher!
Thank you mr. Kalk for the fun semester! Happy Holidays!
Kalk is awesome of what he teaches of MATH that it's well prepared and knowledgeable to understand as time went by. Keep up the great teaching of your own style of teaching to make a better understand even if things were rocky at first, but it's always up to me to know and what to do if there were more things could make things way better to my best of knowledge with the course. Thank you Kalk for all of what you have done!
Great and fun teacher!
Thanks Mr Kalk! This was a great class!
All in all, I am thoroughly pleased with this course. I learned a great deal and was challenged all the way through. Favorite class this semester. Thanks!

4. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
The handouts were super help that layered out the materials in a really effective manor. This helped so much because when we kept learning new material it was nice to be able to go back and refer to these sheets.
How to apply the statistics to everyday situations. Also how its used.
Everything
The course help me review concepts that I was not comfortable with in past science classes. Stats will better help me analyze peer reviewed papers in the future classes if/when I actually go back to school.
it taught me to use basic fundamental skills in statistics, and enabled me to think in a statistical way when necessary.
Mr. Kalk made himself available to help us a lot. He replied to questions asked about homework quickly through email and set up tutoring times for extra help.
I found the examples and little games he made us really helpful on this course.
Helped me invision math, statistics specifically, in everyday life.
The organization and concise guide or instruction on how to handle data and to interpret it in regards to acknowledging and accepting it or disproving and disregarding it.
the chapter reviews were helpful.
im not sure. he said at the beginning of the semester he would relate the course to nursing because majority of the students were nursing students but i only remember one problem being related to nursing.
That the test and homework used technology to help save learning more and more formulas to do by hand, it helped cut out a lot of time that would of spent doing everything by hand.
Mr. Kalk was very patient and understanding. He always made time to help outside of class. Also, he made opportunities for extra credit. I would highly recommend him to future statistics students :)
The instructor didn't give up on us and wants to help us understand the information and pass.
I found the use of Statcrunch to be a valuable and helpful tool in solving statistic problems. It made it easier then doing some of the problems by hand.
Statistics are every where and now that I have a common knowledge of it, I know it'll help me in the future.
The way that we had 3 attempts on homework questions. It helped so I knew what my mistakes were.

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He was always there if we needed help one anything.
His teaching style
Mr.Kalk goes out of his way to make time for students that need help out of class. This helps answer specific questions that one may have, but not want to ask in class. The reviews help A LOT.
he always offered outside hep for struggling students, and made his office hours easily available. he also was able to portray clear examples when teaching new subjects.
He was very knowledgable and passionate about the subject.
He was really patient with students.
Made sure that we were understanding the concepts.
He has a lot of knowledge of the subject and was able to answer questions that were periodically given throughout the course thoroughly and in depth.
willing to help students when they need help, kind, patient, shows examples on the board.
he was available to meet after class
When I met with him outside of class, he worked with me and would go over everything that I didn't understand in class so it helped me have a better understanding over every concept and be confident in the class.
His willingness to help students succeed.
his willingness to help students outside of class as well as his office hours. He also quickly responds to emails. He honestly cares about each student's success in the class.
He was very open to any questions that we had.
He really cares about his students and works with you to understand questions that you are confused on. He is very good with communication and replies to questions on homework problems very fast. He made statistics fun and not as boring as i thought it would be, prior to taking the class. Overall his teaching style and methods are very effective and helpful; he makes things easy to understand.
He knows what hes teaching
Mr. Kalk was always willing to help me outside of class, whether it was through email, or a meet up in the tutoring center.
He was always helpful and made time/ways to meet up with those who needed help.
Willingness to create study hours and times that were flexible to students who were looking for the extra help
18. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Little more oral clarification...can sometimes be confusing.
nothing he did great!
NONE.Course was structured well, homework assignments were aligned well with lecture. One cannot tell that this is Jon's first time teaching stats.
get rid of the online homework. everyone hated it. either make your own through laulima or use another program.
Do more step by step examples on the board.
Perhaps interpret more "on-hands" for the students to do, considering that at times, the lecture wasn't as interesting nor was it fun to pay attention to.
the homework, the tests, and the class work should be more linked together. I felt like they all werent connecting and I never really knew what to expect even though i did fairly well through out the semester. more problems in class and more stat crunch work would have been more helpful.
Take it a little slower in class, and if using technology, teach how to use it instead of just assigning homeowrk and then putting it on the exam, if it was never taught how to use it in class.
The course textbook was a little difficult to follow because it didn't always explain things enough.
One suggestion could be to set more time in class to go over questions people missed on the homework.
Maybe teach a little slower
Maybe go over worksheets more. Completely go over them.
No suggestions

THANK YOU!
Longer tests would be nice in order to buffer grades.
He is a very kind teacher, always willing to help and work with you, definitely encourages you not to give up and tells you what you need to catch up and is always willing to help.
I wish he taught more subjects besides math so that I could have him as a teacher through out my time here at KCC. Thank you Mr. Kalk! Kiersten
Mr. Kalk made the class very enjoyable and I feel like if anyone else were to teach the information I wouldn't understand it very well.
He is an awesome professor. If I had to take other math courses he would be my first choice in math professor.
Statistics must be a hard class to teach, but Mr. Kalk made it fun!

9. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
Learning new material that was foreign to me and being able to understand it.
I found very helpful that my instructor would make sure each student understood the lesson before moving on to the next. Also, I found the quizzes after the lessons very helpful, it showed each of us that we knew the lesson and we all fully understand.

He was always available to answer questions and tutoring
If we ever needed to ask him questions about any of the homework or lessons, he was always reachable. He also makes sure each of his students knows the lesson well before moving on to the next, if one of his students doesn't understand he will go-over the lesson again so that we will understand it more.
His personality and availability also his knowledge about other subjects related to math and how things were connected
He's always willing to help outside of class!
he is willing to help in an out of class
He is a kind, smart instructor who is never condescending towards students. You can tell that he wants his students to succeed, and he prepares his students for classes in the future. If you ask/give a "dumb" question/answer he won't embarrass you but rather finds a way to relate that to the subject (although sometimes it's not at all). He doesn't just state that he is available for help outside of class so he can claim that he's good teacher, but time to meet students at a convenient time.

4. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I liked that Math 100 provided a different source of learning about Math. It opened my mind to become even more knowledgable of the way life works in terms of Mathematics. Although it is a difficult course and takes a lot more than just numbers and letters, it helped me to think harder and appreciate math in its most raw form.
i found that Jonathan is a most helpful guy.
Strangely, I found the Journals to be extremely helpful! I never thought that a journal would be of any use in a math class. However being as we studied probability as well as reasoning is was nice to just be able to vent or get excited about specific problems or sections I also really enjoyed the use of online tutorials suggested by Jon. These really opened my eyes to math in a completely different perspective.
It challenged me.
learning about critical thinking and probabability
It was well organized.
The materials we used were relevant in daily life and not merely abstract ideas.
Logic
Amount of helping teachers in the class.
Great class I always felt challenged but never overwhelmed.
The basic concepts that we go over before getting to the more complicated stuff.
Jonathan Kalk doesn't just teach us the material in our textbooks, he implores us to make personal connections with what we're learning and encourages us to find ways to apply it to the world around us. Jonathan teaches that math is so much more than computing numbers aimlessly, rather- math is an important and invaluable application for life.
The most valuable things that I've learned through this course, is that it made think very hard and critical to understand each assignment. But I have progressed very well and that I pretty much hated word problems, but as time went on, it kind of came to a point that I have learn a lot from this and that now I can say I'm loving math.
I founded that Math 100 was most valuable and helpful because it introduced me to a different way of thinking and using math in my everyday life.
Learned something new everyday
It provided me with a good understanding of deep knowledge behind mathematics in general.

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He is a very genuine person, who really cares about his students of all ages. He takes a lot of pride in the work he does and is always on top of things. He makes sure that everyone understands his material and breaks things down step by step in order to achieve success.
I found that the most valuable and helpful about Jonathan is that he has an interesting learning style.
Jon always makes time for us students he provided a comfortable learning environment as was always within a phone call or e-mails reach I enjoyed his class and teaching style he taught me that I can have the math brain I want even though I didn't think I was the Mathhy type.
He was always willing to help.
very approachable, able to work with him outside of class, flexible with students
He was knowledgable and excited on his subjects.
He seemed to be able to find many ways to explain concepts and his passion for the subject made it an enjoyable experience to learn from him.
He is open to any question and willing to help
He explains his teaching very well. When i ask a question, he answers it to the full extent of his knowledge.
Dr. Kalk is very patient and able to explain these challenging concepts very well. He provides great examples that really helped me understand what we were learning and also always trying to provide help for any one that might need it.
He's able to help you whenever you have questions. And within the my math lab there is an ask teacher button so that the problem you need help on will be emailed to your instructor so that you are able to help us.
He is very knowledgeable, as well as passionate about math. He always makes a sincere and adamant effort to ensure that his students understand the concepts he teaches in class. He also expresses a sincere desire for his students to succeed inside and outside of his classroom. Jonathan is a really good teacher, and taking his class was enjoyable.
The most helpful thing about Kalk, that he is really on point to be willing to help out when in need to understand more better from class time and outside of class. With his teaching I have learned so much that I'm in shack that I'm making an effort to want to know this concepts of learning more of word problems.
There for help
He was always willing to help any of us inside and outside of class with homework and classwork and even study for the tests. He is always on it with his e-mails, he got back to me in a flash with a novel about suggestions on how to do a problem or breaking it down step by step.
He felt more like a friend than a teacher. Very kind and made us interact, even though it was a math class. He made sure we understand the content learned for that day.
18. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
One suggestion if possible, would be to extend the time of the classes. sometimes, fifty minutes isn't always enough time to understand the work material.
Everything looks good, and everything in place about it. I just wished that the school would give him more time in our Math 100 classes. One hour is not good enough to learn everything in time.
Go over worksheets that are given throughout the course. It would better help us understand what we are doing. Or if anything provide an answer key.
I know this may be weird coming from an adult at my age, but my learning style was not like the young babies in our class that are fresh out of high school -- I needed you to slow down alittle bit.
Sometimes have a difficult time understanding the concept or lessons being thought. Once was very frustrated could could not understand what the assignment is about.
To be more clear in explaining. Instead of saying what not to do, say what to do.
Everything is great. No need for changes.

Jonathan mentioned in class that this semester was the first time he was trying the journal application concept, and I think that was a great idea. Keep that concept!!! Weekly journals really helped to emphasize, as well as broaden our understanding of the material we were learning in class.
I don't think that there is anything that needs to improve as of right now. But what ever Kalk is doing, it's very excellent and on point to my understanding that I've learned a lot from him.

Maybe break down the problems more step by step and try to teach the problem in a way all the students can learn it easy.

I just wished our class was a little bit longer that one hour. Other than that, his class looking solid.
Thank you Mr. Kalk for always wanting to help me and of course that tutoring session we did once helped if I got a good grade on my test!
I had a great time in this math class and I hope many more students get to enjoy his teaching as well.
Great class. Dr. Kalk is the man
Don't ever fire Jon! Lol.
It was very well to have meet Kalk, and that I've learned so much that I'm so thankful that he was part of my learning ability to get this concepts of word problems for me to have made it through his course. Excellent work and keep on trucking with your ability to teaching us students.
Being that math is my hardest subject, I enjoyed this Math class it was a very interesting class. It helped me to build my confident in the subject, and build my learning and studying habits.

7. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I learned a lot of new things in this course and Mr. Kalk was very eager and willing to help us learn and he made it enjoyable to learn the material.
It tought me more in details about how math worked
The passion Mr. Kalk displayed in regards to mathematics and the different topics we discussed, esp. probability. His passion spilled over onto me, and I found myself getting stoked when solving problems. Lots of applicable material learned this semester that I will def. apply in my life.
at the beginning it was going okay until later he went super fast and quized us on the materials that we just learned in a short period of time.
I enjoyed looking at how we approach numbers and math compared to other and older cultures. It helped me open my eyes to concepts that I took for granted. I have new mathematical tools for critical thinking and counting and figuring out probabilities.
when he broke down information and explained in further detail
How math really connects to daily living.
Most helpful was probably group class work, it helped me see different approaches to assignments. Most valuable was the innovative learning style of the professor.
The concepts were interesting and applied to real world issues
The logic of this class was quite new to me. This class inspired me to continue pursuing this subject.
I have learned how to apply my math skills to my daily life.
The homeworks .
Learning different math techiques
The teacher is so funny and makes math more interesting than other teachers.

The online math lab, it was helpful in the time of practice, although the lab and Mr. kalk teaching were very diffrent, Mr kalk teaching was easier but it al together became quiet confusing.
What helped me through this course was the online homework. I like how if I'm stuck on a problem it shows me how to get the answer step by step.

I felt that he really knew what he was doing, and he has a passion for teaching that is motivating to want to learn from him.
He was paitent and very calm while teaching with me and other classmates
His quirky sense of humor and his contagious passion and love with math. Also his patience when dealing with students like me, who struggle with math and logic. He also encouraged office hours and spent time with me one on one helping me grasp concepts I was struggling with. GREAT teacher.
he would be available anytime to ask any questions!
He has a deep knowledge and love for math that is charming and personable.
he gives each of his students 1 on 1 time
He is very passionate about math. He has a funny dry sense of humor that make students feel comfortable. He always makes time to help students and ask us to justify our answers to make sure we understand them.
Very interesting person and smart, whose honest concern for students to improve shows in his work.
He's a super math genuis! He's not easily stumped. He is easy to talk to and very friendly
Mr. Kalk has a wide knowledge-base that makes him the go-to guy for math questions.
Anytime I needed assistance with a problem he was always quick to respond via e-mail or in person.
He knew whst he was talking about
He was available outside of class and even had a class tutor who was also available outside and during class time.

He knew that the value of this class and how important it is for us students and he was helpful with the making up and catching up alone with the math lab for us as students whom of that were sick or family members that were sick and were very understanding so that we were able to fulfill the course.
Even though Mr. Kalk likes to kill trees. I find it helpful that he gave out handouts throughout the semester. It helped me to stay organized and I could always refer back to my handout notes.
24. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
I can't think of anything to improve in this course!
nothing, he did perfect
Keep doing what your doing!!
if he could give out extra credit,no quizes, more review sheets to practice on, give out review sheets one week prior to the tests, and a couple of days to review before finals.
Teach us less and give us more time to work with the concepts that you do teach us. Jonathan is a fun and humble and genuinely interesting teacher.
have out of class tutor sessions as groups. (like how loni does)
I think everything was great. More extra credit would have been better.
I think he needs to improve his teaching style. He is super smart when it comes to Math so he would explain things more complicated then they needed to be. He needs to start off with a simple explanation and slowly build up to the bigger picture. I found it at times easier to read the explanations on the homework because I was not able to get a grasp on what he was trying to explain. It would be useful if after he passed out a worksheet, he would also pass out a answer sheet so that I know I'm doing the problem in the correct way. This would help prepare better for the tests.
None.
Maybe spend a little more time on chapters 10 and 11. Also have the final on only the last chapters learned from mid-term to the end.
Be nicer when people ask you for help don't just ignore them
To have a more set syllabus for test dates and to give study guides a week before the tests.

His class were not all to me seemed that hard but for myself whom were bad at english reading and understanding through out my teens, I believe students would succeed in that math department way better if, and which this course to me seems to be an essientrial; so I think considering a math lab class is a do to go for it, cause most stdent can't make it for tutoring and signing up for a class with lab and no interuption of other class mix up would do just fine.
I think he should give out review sheets at least a week before the exam.

Great class. Thank you!
He is a great teacher
THANKS for hiring such a kick butt teacher!!
overall he's a helpful teacher,he's always available, but I felt like we had to write about math rather than actually doing math. If he could teach in a more simpler way just like our homework online. He sometimes don't make sense when he's lecturing, but when it comes to the homework it makes much more sense. He teaches very fast and that's what discourages me.
Thank you Jonathan! You really made this class enjoyable. Your love for people and teaching shows through.
Aside from Mr. Kalk, the program math lab was very helpful and one of the best programs I worked on.
I really liked the open seating and especially their arrangement in the class. It made me feel like a part of the class I and enjoyed having other older students who stimulated similar questions in my class.
I think he's an amazing, nice, smart guy but I don't think he's good at teaching the material, or at least that to someone like me who is a slow learner when it comes to Math.
Great and enjoyable class that I'm going to miss!
In the beginning of the semester, I dreaded this class. Now I'm happy to say I learned a lot and this was the greatest math class I ever had. Never knew counting numbers would be fun.

The group discussions were the most helpful. To take what we were learning and collaborate with others really helped me to see if I was understanding the content or not; it also helped me to see the same content from a different view, which is so critical in teaching. Also, the type of program we were using, the on-line whiteboard, is a really neat tool that's fun to use!
Learning how to teach math in a way that i would have never imagined was very helpful. I will definitely use what I have learned from this class and use the techniques to teach math.
Clarity of purpose and consistency in approaching the subject material.
I really learned a lot about thinking outside of the box.

Jonathan's passion for mathematics really shows through his teaching and therefore makes learning fun and easy in his class. He did an excellent job at explaining just about EVERYTHING. It really helped to know that if we had a question, he wouldn't mind taking the time to elaborate. Also his mastery of the online program was really helpful during class time; time wasn't wasted at all. He was always well prepared.
He always encouraged us to ask questions to make sure we understood the information.
Always available for help and questions...
Professor Kalk is very knowledgeable. He knows a great deal about all of the things that he teaches.
The quick and thorough responses to any questions.
He is a great teacher and is very knowledgeable.
22. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Different text book or additional reference illustrating what an elementary school teacher or child may actually be looking at in the type of math we are covering. Less responsibility on us to prove concepts and more instruction as to the important elements or truths we need to grasp. Some exercises regarding proofs forces us to think outside the box but as an introductory course, more general instruction would create less frustration on the part of the students.
I liked the class the way that it was taught.
More frequent homework assignments.
none, I think the students need to apply themselves in order to be successful. There is nothing wrong with his style and method of teaching. I think it is up to the student to understand the material.

29. Other comments:
My experience in this class was excellent, and I will hopefully be a better teacher because of it! If all my teachers were like Jonathan, I might've enjoyed math a little more than I did.
Learned a lot and had a great time.
One of the best teachers I've ever had. Excellent communicator, very kind and very helpful. Course work frustrating but I think I learned a lot in terms of not taking anything for granted and sympathizing with a child who feels completely lost when facing a new way of thinking or new material...
Great course.

8. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
The think that I found most valuable and helpful about the course is the working together on problems and the continual feed back to provide the opportunity to improve.
The amount of communication between the instructor and the other students.
At first, I thought that I wouldn't like the class. But I really enjoy being in an online classroom. It is nice to interact with the students and hear an instructors voice over the internet and still be able to be home with my children.
Definately not the book. Tutor examples and examples in class were the only things that were helpful. Ryland was very good at understanding my confusion and explaining it, though I have no Idea how he got his explaintion from the book. The book is awful! No examples just confusing words and then questions, it could have been in another language to be easier. There are lots of programs to translate other languages not many for english.
This course really helped me to see many different ways math can be interpreted; English is actually a larger part of math than I thought, and the way in which things are stated make a HUGE difference in what might be communicated. Through working with others, it helped me to view the same math problem from many different angles and understand where misunderstandings and misinterpretations might occur. I discovered some new ways to help with explaining new/difficult concepts.

21. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
The thing taht is most valuable and helpful about the instructor is that he is willing to spend the extra time to further explain information that may not be clearly understood.
I think the quickness and thoroughness of responses to any questions was very helpful, along with patience when explaining concepts.
He is always open for discussion and conducts class very well.
When he would draw examples. Talking about them... if you don't understand to begin with changing order of words doesn't help. I use to think Math was easy to do, not here. The worst part was the book, class would probably have been better if there was a different book, this one is not good.
Our instructor was very patient with the entire class and thorough in his explanations. If he noticed a few struggling, he made sure that everyone understood the topic before moving on and gave examples in class to help with any problems that any of us might have had. I felt that he was able to identify the strengths/weaknesses of our class and did a great job at pairing/grouping us together in class in order to optimize our learning both in and out of class, and not only from him but from each other. He is very knowledgeable of this topic and does an excellent job at breaking down terminology to the nitty-gritty.
22. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
I would suggest some improvement with forums, not all the students are active enough in them. I'm not sure if that can be changed however since it depends more on the students.
I wish that there were stricter rules applied to assignment due dates and class start time. I felt that many students took advantage of the relaxed structure and would come to class late and would not follow through with their part of group assignments.
none.
CHANGE BOOK!! More examples for us that learn differently. The first 1/2 of the semester was soooooooo confusing! I cannot say that I understand what we learned already. Lots of words, not enough examples.
The time period is a struggle. A class that was a little later in the evening would be even better. Other than that I am enjoying the class. The online, interactive classroom setting is awesome! Being able to discuss problems with others, work in small groups on our own "whiteboards" and being able to see what others are doing at the same time, I think is great. If only all math classes actually had this same type of learning environment...because math should be interactive and fun!
