18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I enjoyed its ease of accessibility and flexibility. The ability to work at your own pace made this class a lot more effective for me since I could work on multiple assignments in one go and then use the time I saved by finishing all of it to work on other classes' work that took longer and have more time to work on it.
The ability of the instructor to explain things and answer questions.
I liked being able to work in class on assignments and work together in groups on the last project. I also liked that there were no long exams or evaluations on material. The course is learned through assignments and application of concepts.
I liked that the work related to real life events and real life situations.
The slides used in class were very helpful. Mr Albritton also has a great attitude which makes his class a pleasure to be in.
I liked how it gave me a better understanding on how many different programs worked, especially databases.
What I most appreciated about the course was prompt responses from the instructor. In both assignment submissions/returns and questions about course material I always received fast feedback and was able to make changes to my work to ensure I was on the right track.
The understanding of the teacher
computers
Very clear resources helped me a lot. Like a lot alot.
Creating and working on databases along the textbooks examples. This created an easy to follow lesson and a resource I can fall back on if the powerpoint did not prove clear.
Aspects of the course that I liked is that we were able to do hands on every time we had class which helped me understand things a lot more
The use of class time for review, lecture, and then work time during the class where you were able to ask questions and get immediate help was an excellent use of my time.
I liked that we were not given the loads of homework to do. We were given enough homework to practice what we learned. It was like light homework, so I felt that this sort of homework helped a lot with learning the material. I also like that you can always turn in homework. And extra credit for showing up to class. He also helps you out during class, if you need help.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
There wasn't anything I disliked about this class.
None. Good course.
I didn't like how the textbook used for the course was always out of stock at the bookstore. On the bright side, it turns out the online version is cheaper and works possibly even better in my opinion. I have no complaints for actual course related material.
Some parts of the course could be challenging. Especially toward the end of the course.
Nothing.
Time seemed to run out more quickly in regards to the type of information we were learning in the class.
Maybe the lack of involvement with other classmates.
None
I love everything about the class
The tediousness of the subject matter. But I don't really think that's a reflection on William.

Some of the class lectures, were really similar to the slideshow of the chapter.
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
This course does not need to be improved in my opinion. I enjoyed the way the course was run thoroughly.
None. Good course.
The course is quite organized and straight forward. My only problem is not being able to download Microsoft Access even with the free access account given from the beginning of the course. Instead I made good use of the library computers and completed most of my assignments in that way.
I don't think the course could improve that much. It's pretty good for the most part and I think people in his future classes will enjoy it.
I feel the course is very well presented and I can not think of a way it needs to be improved.
I'm not sure what could be done for improving. More class time was my issue and that can not be changed in the curriculum. Mr. Albritton did a good job with what he has to work with.
A recorded podcast (audio only) that can be accessed online to listen to while driving in the car.
I honestlycan't think of any. The class seemed perfect to me.
none
I think it's good the way it is.
Go more in depth on the logic of databases, or start earlier so it is not rushed. Other students seemed to have a harder time grasping the concept at first.

21. Other comments:
This was a very enjoyable class and I liked the way it was run.
This class is a good balance of learning without needing to feel too rigorous or overwhelming about subject materials. I found the homework to be not too much and exams being excluded is a nice break. I still feel like I learned a lot and still worked hard on assignments to do well.
This was an enjoyable class.
Overall great class format with simple easy to understand guidelines and instruction.

Provides step by step instructions on assignments and assists in class so students understand the material.
Great power points Walking around the class to see if everyone is caught up. Affordable book Working in a group for the final Opportunity to turn in late assignments
I really enjoyed making websites with different functions and the bookstore is interesting now that we have ideas on how to make a website with certain information.
The slides used during instruction were excellent and very helpful especially when working on my own.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
none
There wasn't anything I disliked about this class.
This is a solid class. Everything is good. Though unrelated, the computers available for the DMED students should have windows systems installed so we can work on this class in school. Cannot access Visual Studio on MAC computers.
I didn't really enjoy the final project that much, just because of the amount of work to be put into the database and making the webpage can lead to so many errors if not done correctly.
Grasping the different asp terms in the beginning.
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
none
This course does not need to be improved in my opinion. I enjoyed the way the course was run thoroughly.
There is nothing to improve, lots of different topics have been covered surrounding websites.
Having an aid/tutor (maybe someone on an internship) in the class to help especially those who need more assistance, and/or have someone more knowledgeable or skillful pair up with one that needs extra help. Having a tutor available in the LRC. Having that lab available a few hours a day or week to work on assignments, since our work is saved on the T drive, and Microsoft Visual Web Developer is on it.
This course could use some tutors and people with knowledge on the subject, that way there is more than one person available for assistance besides the teacher.
This course is very well presented and I can not think of how it could be improved.
21. Other comments:
This was a very enjoyable class and I liked the way it was run.
Great class overall!
This teacher is satisfactory. The course can be difficult considering that errors can lead to miscues on your webpage, but the instructor has the resources for a step-by-step process on how to make your websites.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
What I liked best about this course is that it does challenge you when you're doing the homework.
The frequent assignments ensured most of the subject learned from the last assignment was retained and applied. I feel this is crucial to learning any topic.
Prof. Albritton is very knowledgeable in this field and presents the material in an easy to understand way. His videos also keep our attention.
None
That we could submit our work multiple times to Albritton and communicate with other classmates in the class discussion and email them any questions we might have as well. Communication seems to be what a programmer needs to adopt because programming isn't one man in a dark room anymore, this class indirectly enforces communication. It's an important class as well and it's quite lovely.
The best thing about this class, in my opinion, is doing any work that applies to this class.
I liked the fact that everything we needed to start or understand an assignment was given to us from the start.
The freedom to turn in assignments early and resubmit them for full credit until the due date.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
What I didn't like was how the slides didn't quite have the right explanations for the assignments. I was able to find examples online that did help, but as the class progressed it becomes harder to find examples.
I've never been a fan of power-points because I don't retain the information well from slide to slide. However, the code examples were very helpful and far more practical.
Even though we knew when every assignment was due, sometimes it was hard to get assignments in on time and since they build on each other you can start to fall behind very easily.
Change of assignment instructions 6 hours before due time was not allowed extra time. I didn't see the change 1 hour before due time. More suggestions could help or confirm whether or no a student coding path is effective for assignment results.
The way it was run. Having a difficult assignment due every few days after the next. It was chaotic and extremely difficult. Even if this was my only class, I would still have had extreme struggles, especially if I didn't ask questions. I had to finish my other classes early so that I could spend more time on this "Flash" of a class. It seemed super easy to not pass because this class seemed to negate the fact that students have other time-demanding classes and lives as well. Lives as in, eating and sleeping and such. Starting early saved my grade. I cannot stress how many times Albritton said about starting early... the deadlines caught up so quickly... It was a race against the machine in a way. ICS 111 was definitely a lot different than this class. It allowed students more time to handle their other classes and such. The stress received from this speedy class was quite uncalled for.
The instructors online instruction is unclear, unorganized and unhelpful. After the second podcast I ended up just downloading the Powerpoint presentation and skipping the video lecture. I can read it faster than the instructor reading it to me during an hour long video. There is no helpful insight or attempt to reword any of the material on the presentation.
I disliked the online aspect, but since it was an online class I can't really complain.
Reviewing the power points rarely helped me accomplish my assignments. It felt unnecessary to look at them after a while. As such, I often just googled things I didn't understand or read documentation.
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
The only thing that I would say that needs to be changed is providing better examples in the slides.
Not sure how practical it is as an online class, but having white-board presentations with live drawings to connect concepts would have helped me grasp the concepts much faster; not to say I had too much trouble the way it is now. Maybe something similar to what they have on Khan Academy where he draws and explains everything from a blank page, that way the student can build the ideas from scratch in their own mind.
Assignment details not clear, too cluttered, hard to filter out the required steps. Fix outline structures. Ex..... 1. Step 1..add toString()... a. Contributing detailed Comments about the step 1 Why used this? Whats it going to do?
Give more time to students for the work, three days one after another is too intense for students with even just this class alone! Also, shorten up the workload and offer a few other varieties of exercises besides constant homework, ICS 111 was easier to "sink in" than this ICS 211 style.
Teach students during the video rather than reading what is on the screen and showing us 30 second footage of a javascript file. I found the video podcast to be absolutely useless and a waste of time.
I suppose more example code for the assignments, a lot of time I had trouble seeing what the assignments were talking about and what it needed.
Assignments and power points/lessons should work with each other. Assignments should reinforce what is learned through the lessons/power points. More examples of implementation would be of great benefit.
21. Other comments:
Please do make a few changes to make this class more like ICS 111. ICS 111 allowed students to open up more and enjoy programming more. This class acted like a weedwhacker to any weeds that grew in the garden "intimidated us out of loving to program in a sense". Though I look forward to program, I feel shocked at how time-demanding this course behaved. But thank you anyway.
The instructor is a good person and I feel he has the capacity to share his knowledge with the next generation of computer scientists. However, the instructor needs to re-evaluate his teaching strategy for those that do not think or learn at the same speed or the in the same way as he does.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Good lecture notes.
Easy and organized
Straight-forward topic. Easy to follow most things and the topics that were more tricky took just a bit more time. Nice short quizzes/exams to show what we learned.
The workload, which wasn't too bad. I spent a few days reviewing all of it then take a nicely timed quiz or exam. It's fair for students who are full with other classes!
Only a few quizzes and exams.
The videos were very thorough and helpful.
I was given the full course schedule way ahead of time, and was able to work around it.
I enjoyed its ease of simplicity. It gave you all the information you needed from the beginning and you could do most of it ahead of time and study for it if you needed to. The quizzes and tests were also well spaced out every other week and was easier to manage like that.
The quizzes and exams fell right in line with the material presented to us. Each question focused on testing our ability to understand the lecture and nothing else. There were no obscure questions that required us to do any kind of second hand research just to be able to understand what it is asking.
What I liked best about this class is the material being taught. The way the material is taught is also good and makes me want to learn more.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
n/a
The forum wasn't used as much
The old lectures were good and contained all the needed information, but it was still a bore to watch. Nothing dire.
The fact that a few quizzes and exams determine your grade for the course. That part is very intimidating when trying to solve complex problems.
None.
I think it would be more useful if we could see why we got points marked off, directly on the quizzes.
The lectures were a bit outdated and the video quality was poor.
There wasn't anything I disliked about this class.
This class was well worth my time in terms of my future career goals. I know more now about real world applications of the topics covered. There are no outstanding disagreements that I have with this course and I feel any minor nuance that a student would encounter would not take away from the overall purpose of this course.
The aspect I liked the least is that it's only online. This class felt like I could have learned more because we could have gone more in depth and I could have taken more from this class.
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
n/a
The course can be improved by providing the students the proper answers when they get a question wrong. It becomes handy to understand the question better.
Newer recordings and more/stronger relations to real world applications of the concepts. I know for some students, a big killer is the question "when would we ever use this?" Most of the topics are easily applicable, but some feel like jumping through hoops, doing problems just for the sake of the grade and not the learning.
A few "practice" worksheets would help, just as a review. I think that it was very fair but also dangerous for procrastinators as one missed quiz or exam would mean possible failure.
Maybe more resources to learn the material instead of just having powerpoints and the videos. Something else that can supplement the lectures.
The audio on the videos was low on my computer and it made it difficult to hear unless the room was silent.
I feel like if the video quality was better, the lectures wouldn't have been so boring. Also, it felt like i was getting bombarded with too much information per lecture.
This course does not need to be improved in my opinion. I enjoyed the way the course was run thoroughly.
Personally, I would have liked every assignment to be available from the beginning of the semester. Then, we could truly work at our own pace.
The only way I can think of this class being better is if there was a formal class offered this semester.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The different forms of communicating information in the class is great. I never had to make an appointment outside of class. However, both online and in class options were made available. The presentation of the course material is excellent. Easy to follow the lecture and the book. Review days were convenient. Also, if I had a question or needed further explanation for the assignments, they were addressed promptly.
I liked the final group project the best. We could come up with whatever database we had wanted to and then present it. I really enjoyed working on that assignment.
I liked the assignments that we were assigned because it helped me learn more.
Being able to take this class as an online option was the best, because it opened up my schedule and allowed me to work at my own pace. Even though I worked through Laulima, the resources were extremely helpful.
Online option
Power Pt. presentations Cut and pasting the hmwk!
I liked all of the aspects. It was an interesting class to take and very informative.
I really like the power points with step by step instructions for make and using a database
The simpleness.
I felt the course was well presented and provided a lot of information on the subject.
Learning the material
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I liked his presentations, but the only thing that could be improved in this aspect is for Albritton to fluently explain the topic. He would question himself every now and then in almost all of his presentations. Other than that, it was good.
I didn't really like the project at the end
The textbook was not released when the semester began, but I'm glad we were able to work with the newest textbook material for this course. If the textbook was not available online, there might have been some issues getting the textbook late, but that was not a problem for me.
None
learning about normalization
None.
the confusing use of SQL statements
Nothing comes to mind.
The only realy problem during the course was that the computers would crash a lot.
none
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Midterm, cumulative/assessment test/assignment to ensure students are on track.
He could improved his presentations verbally with more practice. He could also accept email, he did not like to nor did he want to receive email from his students.
Nothing really, everything was pretty straight forward.
Assignment instructions could have been expanded on. Sometimes the questions from the textbook are a little unclear, so further instructions and details would have been helpful on assignment postings on Laulima.
Everything was played out from the beginning
The computers would always crash atlas 2 or 3 times a class which made things frustrating at times.
New or improved computers in the computer lab. If the computers would crash less it would be easier to follow along in the class.
The harder assignments should be given on Friday. This way there is more time to work on them during the weekend.
It could be improved with fixing the crashes.
21. Other comments:
Mr. Albritton is fair, helpful, and made the course very interesting.
Great class. I learned a lot. Excited to take more database classes with programming. Instructor is very knowledgeable, approachable, and helpful.
I covered all of my concerns in the sections above this one. Good instructor, he could be better with more practice.
Excellent teacher
This class was awesome! I like how straight forward the class was.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I like how organized the resources are for this class.
Online
Organized; answers aren't just laid out, students really have to think
I enjoyed the structure of the course the most. It doesn't punish you severely for turning in an assignment late or needing to re-do it which is helpful to the process of learning and understanding programming where revision is sometimes necessary to get things done. I also enjoyed the ability to finish and turn in assignments earlier than the due date. The straightforwardness of the grading system and how the assignments were given was also really helpful. The example programs were also helpful in giving us a model to look at and understand how we should structure certain new concepts and how to go about coding them.
The examples really helped out a lot
I like learning JOptionPane. I gained more experience in use of exception handling. String and Integer validation.
This course was really tough! They should renumber this to be ICS 411 instead of 211. Nonetheless, the high level of rigor was good considering I'll need these skills to make the big bucks making apps.
Very organized.
I enjoy computer programming in general so any new information we learned about programming was something I enjoyed.
He makes the course and learning interesting
Really makes you think about the programs you have to write.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Recursion and INFIX PREFIX calculators!
online only
I didn't have any issues with the course and can't think of any glaring issues at the moment.
Two assignments due per week most of the time; some easy but at times took a lot of time
When I started I felt I didn't know how to apply ICS 111, maybe because I forgot alot of it. I sometimes could not choose the Java class examples for figuring out my assignments. I guess I could say Code Strategy is a problem for me.
Too many assignments. My ICS 111 course only had 10 assignments, this course had 26! I would rather take it face-to-face to get instant feedback on my code.
Lacks on better examples after the first half.
I would personally prefer less assignments that are longer rather than many smaller assignments, but I can see the merits of that approach as well.
sometimes his grading is a bit slow, and sometimes i feel like he rushes the presentation of subjects a bit, like, the sortof assumes we know things that we don't.
The assignments were to rapid, with two a week, i barely even had time to finish one before the next was due. I was always playing catchup and never really got the grade i wanted.
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
No final project. Give additional extra credit.
make available as an in-person class, or have the instructor or tutor available more often, improve resolution of videos
This course is one of the better online classes I've taken thanks to its ability to get straight to the point and its ease of access to all resources even outside of laulima. I don't think there needs to be any improvement that I can think of.
An actual class on campus would be beneficial. Provide a pdf or something with all the terminology of coding.
There is a lot to do, but I guess its for the requirements of this coding level. This course is very excellent it has improved my coding skills.
The textbook was awful so get rid of it and choose a better one. Increase interaction between students, possibly with paired coding assignments. Have exams to test our knowledge.
Enhance the forum. Not many people uses it.
A short dedicated video segment on each assignment (even just a minute or so) would be very welcome.
I'm not sure what could improve the course more besides having a little more review of ics111 topics.
Less programs, less cringey lecture podcasts.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
It was great being able to program in class almost every time, and get quick feedback on things. I also enjoyed programming with C and C++ more than I thought I would (I liked it more than Java).
Being able to resubmit assignments. Having a clear understanding of what the assignment is asking for. I like having the choice of taking it in class or online.
Since I took this course as an online student, I did not get to experience what it was like in the classroom, but the option itself to take this online course was very nice and helpful. Being from UH Manoa, the ICS 212 here for some reason meets from late in the evening which would have been very troublesome for me. I liked that I was able to take the class and work at my own pace and schedule.
CODE!
Programming assignments
Flexible class times.
I liked the powerpoint presentation during lectures the best because I got to visually see and learn the subject matter at hand. Professor's examples are all also on point.
It was very flexible
Ability to optional attend class for in class discussion and review of the PowerPoint presentation.
I assignments were very helpful and I feel like I learned a lot of useful techniques from completing them. The instructions were also very thoroughly written.
I like how Professor Albritton applied his knowledge of other areas of life into the course assignments, such as Japanese.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I would have liked some of the course material to be covered in more detail, specifically (more on) the practical use of pointers in C/C++, and hpw to deal with memory management (in perhaps a few more assignments than it was covered).
None come to mind.
I felt that the slides could have a little more information, but of course, i'm sure the concepts were explained more during the lecture. As an online student, the slides were a bit hard to follow, but overall manageable.
RECURSION!
Some assignments were too complex for current knowledge
Nothing, class was very fun.
I least liked the assignments because there would be times when I would code by myself and I would be so lost and almost give up because i feel blinded. But after I get the answer, I would be like OHHH i love coding.
There is a lot of assignments
Homework due dates feel a bit close to each other.
I wish the class periods were longer so that we'd have more time to work on the assignments after the lecture.
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
See above...
None, I enjoy how the course is organized.
I feel, as someone who took it online, the slides provided should be just a bit clearer because there is no lecturer to explain it to us. I would also like some sort of option to get the extra credit the students who go to class get, like maybe do some sort of check in, or small quiz to make sure the online students are keeping up.
NO RECURSION! jk
More practice programs, more examples
Perhaps more online resources.
It could be improved if the computers were all working and if we had a permanent tutor who we could contact anytime we needed help.
More information
Going over code examples or homework more in class.
I'd prefer not to be assigned having to write on the discussion board on Laulima.
Possibly expanding a little on linked lists. Its a little tricky to understand
21. Other comments:
This was a great course!
I enjoy having smaller assignments that don't require as much code and also having bigger assignments that combine a lot of topics together.
None, this class was great and I feel like I understand C and C++ more. Overall, I am thankful this was an option.
You kick ass, Albritton! keep kicking ass!
Woop woop
I definitely recommend this class because Professor Albritton is a very good teacher. He is clear, cut, and precise with each assignments and it is a very fun learning environment in his classes.
Great class, I learned a lot, thanks!

everything was hard but fun. I got frustrated at times because of codes not validating but It was such a great feeling when I figure it out. It's fun.
I enjoyed this class and William Albritton made it easy to understand and follow along.I enjoyed learning how to build my own website.
Learning how to create web pages using html and css codes.
The final project, it really allowed me to utilize all the skills I learned through out the course.
Doing all work in class helped with understanding the subject. I could work through class and any questions I had I could ask about it.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Nothing really.
Remembering all the codes.
I have no complaints on the class.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
i liked that we can ask for help because it is very needed
Very thorough about what needs to be done.
The class and its materials are well presented and organized.
One of the things I like about this class is the available resources that helps learning more successful and understandable. For example, the slideshows that is used in class is very helpful. Professor Albritton uses the same slideshow in class and I think it's a greet tool to keep the students on the same page especially if you miss class. I also like how the Professor is nice, respectful, funny, helpful and is not intimidating. He makes learning easy and he makes sure his students understand the concepts being tackled in class.
Learning all the different codes that we need to use to create a website or anything that you need the code for.
The in class assignments
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
the work is hard to grasp
That i needed access to certain computers to use certain programs.
The group project
Presented a higher level of difficulty than expected.
I don't really like how this class is ONLY being offered in spring. I also think that this class should be mandatory for any students on the DMED, internet publishing program.
n/a
The lack of communication between students
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
if we had more examples of the code and more class time that would help.
Nothing.
It would be beneficial to have a few more step-by-step examples given or linked to (even from outside sources) for each assignment for students that are having difficulty with writing the expressions.
I think visual basic (the program we use in class) is a great program for coding. However, I just wish that the program is also compatible on a mac computer.

Spread around the number of assignments. Add quizzes to refresh and maintain the information we learned.

Having the lecture detailed in a powerpoint presentation was very helpful with review. The class schedule complete with topics, associated reading from the book, and the corresponding slides and examples were essential when trying to piece together everything covered during the semester into one final project.
Professor Albritton is a great instructor for this class. He made this course enjoyable. Thank you Professor!

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked how the assignments were broken down into two small programs a week. I'd rather have that than one big challenging program to do.
His grading is very fair.
I liked how William encouraged us to post in the forums if we had any questions regarding the topics and encouraged students to help each other.
Online. Easy ability to review previous lectures, flexible with having a job, and greatest feeling of achievement when the program does exactly what you want!!
We write codes.
It was very helpful and rewarding seeing Professor Albritton during his office hours (and sometimes by appointment!) to clarify programming concepts and challenges faced in certain assignments. Professor Albritton was always willing to help and is very knowledgable on Java programming! I also appreciated his positive and upbeat attitude, both in his lecture videos and in person.
His personal website for the course.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Having to watch podcasts were a drag sometimes - but it's an online class, what do I expect.
Some assignments weren't clear. At least some assignments instructions weren't laid out as clearly as it could be.
The course was very enjoyable and there aren't any aspects that stick out that I didn't like.
The study and workload each week was a bit tough for me. This course was my main focus out of all my other 4 classes. Due to the amount of study hours I needed to get the grade I wanted. Also, if you fall behind on a assignment or chapter etc. The work and difficulty will just stack. So it was crucial to meet deadlines and review each podcast and slide.
Too much homework.
Downloadable videos
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
None. This course is run perfectly in my opinion. Everything is fair.

I believe this course is fine the way it is. As it is an online course, most of the responsibility lies with the student to seek help and learn the material mostly on their own. The material is presented in a way that makes it easy to learn.
Maybe a few more examples for certain assignments.
Please check email often and give clear instruction.
The sound and video in the lecture videos seemed to be a little out of sync (maybe in some videos more than others?). One thing I personally would prefer is in the lecture video content, if instead of briefly "running through" a program (in jGrasp) before going in detail on certain parts of the program, if instead the example programs were covered first briefly in the PowerPoint (highlighting the purpose and the main new/important statements that the program features), and then when going over the actual program in jGrasp, spending time very slowly going over the details of the code.

Good job Professor!!
I gained a lot of knowledge through this course. Thanks Mr. Albritton.

I enjoyed the extra credit for posting in the forums, it really encouraged students to ask questions and help each other.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The content.
Learning how to create websites using HTML and CSS.
It was very easy to follow along.
Short lectures with time to work on assignments.
The course was somewhat self-paced. We were given the flexibility to complete homework either in-class or at home, which was awesome. Also Mr. Albritton is downright hilarious while still getting his message across effectively. It was very helpful that all of the class materials were available online just in case I had to go back over a part of the lecture.
The aspect I liked best about this course was getting a better and clear understanding with HTML. Also, doing the assignments with Albritton present to assist the students.
The fact that there is someone to ask questions is a huge plus. William is very helpful when asked question but he makes you trouble shoot the problem yourself. We do learn from this.
I liked gaining information on different types of coding to use to transform and design personalized web pages (CSS, HTML, etc).
The Website building.
his set up on the internet with so many examples were very helpful.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Communication seems to be an issue when trying to work on a Group Project. It is unsure if the group will be "on the same page" when the deadline comes.
None.
Nothing comes to mind.
Occasionally Mr. Albritton would stay on a certain slide while he went ahead a bit with the lecture, then would skip over a couple to catch back up. But some of us retain information better when we read something vs. just hear it, so it made the lecture hard to follow at times, at least for me personally. Also I have never enjoyed working with others, so the group project- while completely reasonable- was definitely my least favorite part of the course.
The aspect I liked least would be learning things that I already knew.
There are so many people in the class that sometimes I need to wait awhile before my question can be asked.
There are so many codes to memorize throughout the semester and it's rather challenging to try to use them in later assignments because of the validation errors that often come up when trying to check how well the code works before submitting the assignments.
Nothing really.
software worked good only in computers in class. library computers did not work as good
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Transform the Final Project into an Individual assignment instead of the current Group format. The professor can more easily see who are the "A" students are when they are by themself.
I have no suggestions.
I would have preferred an option to do a solo final project since I'm a control freak, but at the same time it's probably healthy to be forced into socializing once in a while. Other than the lecture-slide thing, it was a great course!

.
I can't really think of how this course could be improved... maybe for the final project, there could be set topics to choose from instead of trying to come up with an idea of a business or type of website to not only create, but to also design as well. I think that was the hardest part of the whole semester, coming up with the topic to use for the last project.

all good
21. Other comments:
This course should be transformed into an online format.
The course was very good, learned a lot. It was not hard and the examples that he gives are easy to understand,
Rock on, Mr. Albritton!
Great instructor!!! I recommend William Albritton to anyone looking to major in DMED!
thanks for the learning

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked having class time to start assignments so that we were able to discuss questions or problems with classmates and the instructor. The powerpoint presentations were very useful. I plan to print them all out. I think the pace of the course made it easy for everyone to keep up with all the new skills we learned each week.
I liked that we were given some class time at the end to do some homework. Majority of the time, I was able to finish my homework in class. By doing so, I didn't need to worry about doing my homework at home.
What I liked about the class was learning how to use the access a lot better. Opened my knowledge of it.
Time in class to work on assignments.
Wide range of material covered with enough depth to get a general understanding and utility of a range of applications
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I didn't care for the homework review questions where we only had to copy down definitions from the textbook. I think we gained a lot more understanding working on the questions relating to specific databases.
At one point during the middle of the course, one particular material was very confusing and vague. We briefly went over it, but I still wasn't able to understand it. I also didn't like how homework was graded. We wouldn't know if what we did was right or wrong.

20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
A teachers aid would greatly help students. Going over the home work a little more would would also help.
I know you can't change the set up of the classroom, but I think the way the space is designed (lots of space between students, very rigid setup with everyone focused on their own screen) might make students less likely to participate in class. Maybe having students work in small groups or pairs for assignments early in the semester might get students talking?
Grade the homework and then go over the homework by explaining the steps to get to the answer.

I enjoyed this class and learned lots. I've worked with Access in the past and taken a database class before, but I was never able to fully understand relationship types and the concept of how to keep to "one theme per table" until your class. Thanks!

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Lectures and Slides posted online, so it was easy to rewatch and learn the materials better. Programming Assignments were fun/challenging and really related to the course.
I liked how the assignments directly related to whatever what was discussed in the powerpoints and lectures.
the program writing
I liked the amount of coursework there was because while it was difficult at times ti helped to learn the concepts in a faster manner.
I appreciate how each assignment was directly related to the slides/lecture, and nothing was left unexplained.
Although I did not take advantage of it, I liked that the class was published early - during summer to be exact. Had I taken advantage of this opportunity, I am sure my understanding of the concepts will have been much stronger. I also like that William responds to questions posted on the forums promptly and is able to answer them effectively. I liked the different level of difficulties per assignment - some assignments were hard some were easy. It was a good balance. Perhaps the best aspect of the course is learning how to tackle more abstract tasks. I often compare the feeling of figuring out a program to the feeling you get when you figure out a 100 piece jigsaw puzzle - you don't know where to begin but soon as you find the corners and edges of the puzzle and work your way inwards, you begin to see the picture.
The entire course is carefully and clearly presented in a very organized manner.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
There weren't any aspects that I particularly disliked.
the final project
I disliked that some concepts were a bit vague.
I especially did not appreciate the lack of social interactions in this course. Although I expected the lack of social interactions from an online course, I feel like this course was the most dead of all my other online classes from the past. I could almost hear crickets in the forums!

20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Compare / Contrast Instructor implemented API with Java API for things like linked lists, queues etc. How to declare an use the Java API for linked lists etc.
Maybe having more smaller assignments for some concepts that may be difficult.
more interaction
It could be improved by more examples.
To solve the social problem maybe William could create an assignment where students are assigned a partner to correct each other's codes or maybe collaborate to write a final program. I don't know... something that involves social interactions.
This course seems to be very polished. I do not feel suggestions are needed.
21. Other comments:
Enjoyable course. Instructor presented materials in an interesting and fun manner.

It was a good learning experience. My logic and programming skills have definitely developed.
Overall, I learned quite a lot from this course. I was skeptical about my programming skills prior to this course and even thought about dropping out of class before the semester began because I did not start on the assignments during summer as William suggested. However, as the semester passed I realized I was able to follow through with the lessons and understand the concepts quite clearly. I owe it to William's teaching style. Out of all my courses this semester, this is the one class I actually looked forward into. I believe this course taught me how to enjoy programming. Thank you for an awesome semester, Prof!
ICS 211 opened my eyes to the expanse of programming. It has actually influenced my very thought process of coding and life.

I am glad I learned C and C++
W Albritton followed his assignment schedule throughout the semester, and it made it easier to prepare for class. I also liked that he posted all of the assignments and resources on the first day of class, and we could view all the material. I also liked that we had an assignment due every class.
I liked that the work assignments were very well oganized
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Good coverage of topics related to web development. Assignments both helped my understanding and gave me insights into how to correctly create a webpage (even regarding readability and design).
working on the computers and learning how to create websites
What I liked in this course was being able learn to create a website and assignments that made it easy for me.
The details of power point instruction. Be able to understand a good basic knowledge of HTML.
Being able to do assignments in class, get feedback from the instructor, and being able to have time for one on one help if needed, within the class period.
Just the topic of the class. I enjoyed learning how to make websites look good.
Relaxed atmosphere, enjoyable learning environment. basic concepts explained in a clear and concise manner.
Creating and publishing web pages from the very beginning and with each assignment. Producing a product, as opposed to homework answering a set of questions, was great!
I liked learning html and css protocols to learn how to design a web page. Seeing your work on a webpage was very exciting.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
None- I liked all of it.
nothing
The least aspects that I didn't like is when you think you got the assignment right, it validates that I have some kind of error.
There was no aspect that I did not like.
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Maybe supplemental readings/materials for those who want to learn more than just the basics? Of course this can be done on their own as well. Otherwise I like how it is now.
nothing
I wish that the Dreamweaver software wasn't too expensive to do the assignment.
PREREQUISITES: Taking a basic computer skills test before considering this class.
I actually like it how it is. Assignments have the minimum things we learned that class due, but you can always add more, or customize the web page, so long as you have the required things included. You're also able to access everything you learned in class, online,on laulima. Very helpful and useful.
Would have liked to learn a little more about using what we learned in class and applying it in the real world. Learn a little more on actually publishing our websites.
The course could be improved with more examples of how the html and css protocols work. We learned the basics of the coding, but more examples would have been helpful.

if you are interested in learning how to create websites, i would recommend this class.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
everything, teacher made work easy to understand and was always willing to help
I liked creating databases.
The way the information of the class worked with the assignments I thought were tied really well to each other. My before the class and after the class knowledge of the subject vastly changed. I think it was one of the best college courses I have taken.
I like how the course is so well organized. I like the instructors short lectures. I like the class time the instructor sets aside to work on assignments. I like the points the instructor gives for attendance. I like how he grades assignments quickly (same day). So much good things...
Simplicity of the lectures/use of PowerPoints.
I liked being able to see the principles of database fundamentals application to the real world immediately upon starting.
learning new skills for windows and mac computer
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
not being able to pick partners for final project
Working with SQL
A little too patient with those that struggled in the class. I felt that those who did well in the class were slowed down by those that struggled.
i don't know.
nothing to mention
Having to wait until the end of the course to figure out how to assemble a complete database.
The final assignment. It was a team assignment, and I could have done much better on my own. My teammates were uncooperative and our resulting database was poorly designed. Also, what was expected for the last assignment was not clear. This was the only time I really didn't understand what was expected of me, and that resulted in a few false starts. Between that, and the lack of cooperation from my teammates, I lost interest in the assignment. It would have been better if the assignment was not a group project. I understand the importance of learning to work with others, but this was an introductory database class, and the final project asked too much of us. Maybe if we could've chosen our teammates? I don't know... What I do know is that I enjoyed most of the class, except for that final assigment, which I really, really hated.
nothing. everything was good
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.

i don't know.
I honestly cannot think that there's anything to improve. The lessons get out there, the work is identified and reasonable. Don't mess with if it ain't broke.
The pace is good enough and the material is easy to understand. No improvements needed.

I like the labs in class. It helps us apply the concept of what we are learning right away while the professor is discussing.
I liked learning more of web design.
The valuable natural of the class.
The class work is well organized! I have time to look over future work and practice the work before class. Plus when I run into problems I usually write questions down for my instructor to answer in future classes. The computers are great! Fast, slick, and clean!
Class is super organized, that you know what to read, what to do, what to know, and all that. Instructor gives time in class to work on assignments, and walks around the room to help students. Learning ASP.NET web forms was essential for my career as a web designer, and Mr. Albritton taught this well.

Albritton was very helpful outside of class.
The videos were very helpful
I liked learning about stacks, queues and linkedLists the most. Tree's not so much..lol
We can ask him questions at anytime and he would reply quickly
This course is very well structured and organized. A student could, if they wanted, do the entire class as soon as they wanted. Assignments were always relevant, and slides/lectures were helpful as well.
Creating working programs, learning to use classes, and the extends in Java. I hope to apply this knowledge in a career in software development. :) I also appreciated that you provided us with extensive tests to make sure our programs were running correctly.
Lots of assignments were a good way to practice what we learned. Got grade back very quickly. Professor answered questions very quickly.
I learned a lot from the material covered in class.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Podcasts weren't always explanatory where it really counted. Along with that, the example code was hardly in line with the assignment. This left an important portion of each assignment to the imagination where I had to read and re-read the appropriate material and/or seek extra help.
Trees
The unclear homework instruction.
none
Getting the java comment/documentation down took a few assignments to get the hang of.
Use of professor prepared java classes. Learning to use the Java API or writing the code would be much better than using prepared classes.
It was hard to keep up with the workload over the semester.

21. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Better example programs that are more in line with the homework assignments would improve this course greatly. I realize that it's important not to "give away" the source for our assignments and that we're supposed to write our own code. However, when the podcast isn't descriptive where it counts and the example program differs too greatly from the assignment, concrete understanding of the concepts can't be formed and it becomes impossible to get a decent grade for the course.
This course was very informative, and I have learned a lot. I can't think of an criticisms at this time.
Clearer homework examples and instructions.
There really are no changes that I think would benefit this course. It is set up really well.
No using prepared classes
Maybe keep the assignments a little closer to the examples.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
ALL :D
I liked learning the content of programing in HTML
I liked how each of the daily assignments were built upon the knowledge and learning outcomes gained from the previous assignment(s). Our instructor, William Albritton made great use of the rooms equipment and presented well. I liked how our instructor showed the HTML structure on one screen (electronic whiteboard), and the CSS code on another (projector screen), back and forth, in reverse, multiple times, until we got it right. The presentation of the concepts were top-notch and taught me HTML and CSS. I liked how the course was incredibly organized. I liked the pace and progression of learning objectives and assignments. I liked all of the example web pages the instructor created and presented. It really does make the subject interesting. I liked how the instructor allowed everyone the creative control of their own work. It made the course interesting for the students. I liked how the instructor was there to help you if you struggle and ask for help. I liked how he walked around the room offering to help. I liked how you know exactly where you stand in terms of grading each day. I liked the instructor's enthusiasm and energy. I liked how he treated everyone. He very level and fair. No bias, no prejudice. His demeanor friendly and perfect. As a DMED major, I liked how we learned practical and valuable skills in this course. I liked how this course and instructor are available in both Fall and Spring. All of that is the best.
Every day I learned something new about HTML/CSS and building webpages! This is an excellent class and I'd definitely recommend it to any DMED student!
The way William Albritton taught the class made me want to come to class and learn.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?

I cannot think of anything that I disliked. let me think about it a little longer... ... still ... cannot think of anything I don't like.
There wasn't one thing I disliked about this class.
That the computers we worked on had the applications we needed, we did not have to buy them.
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
I think one way this course could have been improved is if the lab was open for DMED students to work in, so that we could have more access to Adobe software, and we could spend more time on our assignments and projects.
Let's just leave all the improvements to the course up to this instructor. From my student perspective it is perfect.
This course was awesome! Nuff sed!
Only way this course can me improved is let the students pick their partners for the final project.
21. Other comments:
If any student was left behind in this course; it was their own choice. There were several students with attendance issues. I witnessed some of it in all my classes this semester. As sad as it is, I feel mentioning this is important because the participation(or non-participation) of your classmates can affect the learning experience. I know a lot of that is beyond our control and you can't make anyone do something. I'm just pointing it out.
Prof. Albritton is a fantastic teacher!! He was very helpful and his lessons were very clear and precise. I had a lot of fun in this class and really enjoyed it. Not only is Prof. Albritton a great teacher, but he's very funny and approachable. This guy deserves a raise or an award...or BOTH!
Great class, great teacher, keep up the good work Mr. Albritton

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Everyone hates ppt slides but these were awesome. Good explanation, good examples, and the pictures everywhere really help avoiding getting distracted. It was great to be able to blow through a bunch of lectures that were clear, and then spend that extra time on sections that just weren't clicking in my head.
the fact that it was online and i didnt have an obligation to be on campus so i could work more
coding using JGrasp and Eclipse was a hoot and very fun.
Mainly the the fact we got to learn the concepts of things and how they work.
I liked that Professor Albritton was very animated and lively. He is easy to approach and talk to, should you have any questions.
The ability to email him at anytime with questions.
I took the class online. I liked how I was able to watch the lecture videos anytime I wanted, or on TV if I wanted.
The videos were very informative and helpful for the class.
hands on learning
I like the set up of the class. Professor Albritton divides the class hours into two sections, first part is discussion and second part is hands on. The immediate hands on helps me apply all the things we learned in the discussion.
The professor is very considerate and wants his students to succeeds.
Always getting help in class whenever i needed it. Also he didnt just give us the answer he made sure we could figure it out on our own.
Examples to work off of.
giving assignments on weekly basis so we can practice programming
learned a lot of material of programming
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
There were a few times where it seemed some programming method that we'd need wasn't covered in the lecture.
the fact that when i asked him questions he just told me i was wrong most of the time
N/A
Not much explaination on how to go about coding, or atleast I found it hard to translate the concept to the coding.
I did not like that we were expected to complete 2-3 programming assignments a week. In comparison to other ICS courses because programs take some time to construct, debug, etc. we were expected to complete programs once a week. Also, the lectures and powerpoints go hand in hand, they did not provide as much information that was needed to complete the assignment.
How heavy loaded some of the assignments were. Too much to do in a small assignment
Although they weren't major assignments, I didn't like have so many due. Two a week was a bit much for me considering I had work.
I wish I would have taken it in person, the teacher seems to really know his stuff.
how fast we go through assignments
I enjoyed the course very much.
I kind of didnt like how he would get lost in some of the programs.
Probably should have spent a little more time coding the given coding used such as nodes/linked lists etc which are just implemented.
the way he teaches
i like the assignment of the teacher given, its very organized and the our laulima site of this class is very unique.
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Take a look at the curriculum coverage of the GUI and Applet vs Application methods. Especially Layouts. See if there's any gaps that could be covered in the lectures.
Take the on campus class. Avoid the online class. He is a good teacher in class but online not so much.
More example codes and how they function.
The powerpoints and lectures should focus more on the assignments. Less programs in a week, or break the programs into sections.
Less work-heavy assignments.
I didn't like having two assignments due every week. It would've been nice, like a refresher, to have just one due every now and then.
Maybe more example code?
slow down a little somethings are still brand new to students
I think if he went indepth more into some of the programs. Also if he could explain how these programs can be used more with each other.
Instead of just taking code and using it, maybe code more of the whole program.
explain things more

Being able to create a web page from scratch
I liked that I was able to apply and use the system after he taught it.
I like everything we did in this course. I learned a lot with the html and css coding. I also like how I got to express my creativity in class while working on the final project.
super cool teacher
I liked how we got to learn on how to make a html files, and learn the different codes.
I like how we are able to create our own webpage while learning new coding.
The slide show that he presents in class is very helpful, clear and objective. If we have any questions about it, we can access the content through Laulima at anytime.
Everything was interesting and I absolutely loved this course. I would take it again just because it was so much fun, the professor is a wonderful teacher.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
having to look up html codes
All..
Nothing. This course taught me a lot.
everything was good
It was difficult to learn all the codes.
I guess just getting stuck on codes.
Using only the templates from the course made me a little bit confused when I try to create a webpage on my own for fun at home.
Nothing, everything was great!

-Start at least one assignment from zero, not using templates would probably make us understand the steps and functions more clear since this is the lowest beginners class. -Using other students assignments and projects as example is always a motivation and inspiration since we are all in the same boat.
Maybe just a little more time for the final project, however I prefer working alone, not in groups.

William Arbritton makes us feel comfortable and welcome! That helps a lot when we have questions and need help. Not to mention that he is really dedicate in replying to our emails ASAP which for me shows professionalism.
This course has taught me so much valuable information. I remember when IK first entered the class and was terrified for html code, it looked so complicated, but come to find out it was not hard at all. The professor is one of my favorite professors yet!! Keep doing what you are doing.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
We always have a fun time in class.
Albritton has a very dynamic teaching style, I really enjoyed the class as a whole.
Learning the SQL is awesome.
I loved finding the information very useful for real life situations!!
Prof. made it fun to learn about databases. he made it was easy to learn.
I like how we do the assignments in class. It trains us on the subject we just learn and at the same Professor Albritton is so helpful.
He provide examples and teach us through (very helpful) power point presentation which is also on Laulima so we can access it again.
The teacher is swag
the teaching
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
none
There was nothing necessarily bad about the course but some of the material got really complicated.
The referential Integrity and sometime its a bit confusing
The information was easy to understand, digest, and apply, so it wasn't incredibly challenging.
There was nothing I did not like I learned while having fun. Enjoyed every single class.
Nothing.
nothing
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Maybe if we can choose our own final group project
I liked it the way it is.
More discussions or clear explanations for lectures
I have no comment on this.
I think the prof. has a great grasp on this course on how to teach while making possibly boring material fun. i would recommend future students to take this class from Prof Albritton
I don't know.
What if i do not think this course needs improvement. Do i need to still wrote two or three sentences? This course is fine.

18. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
Learning out to do the vb file in web developer.
The assignments were fun and straight forward
I liked how helpful the professor was with our assignments.
"Hands on" approach to teaching the concepts and fundamentals.
Easy to follow format made understanding concepts better understood.
Resources The power point was very useful. The atmosphere was focused but unthreatening (not intimidating).
Going through the assignments in class helped my understanding of the material.
I liked the class environment. It was relaxed and friendly. He allows his students to explore and think outside the box. William is enthusiastic about teaching and made learning fun.
Able to make websites with other stuff working in it.
19. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
the part where we have to do if-else statement
Kind of a bland subject.
Doing assignments in class. It felt rushed and I wasn't able to absorb it as well as when I did it at home.
The final project but that is mainly because I don't work too well in groups.
20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
none
No improvement needed.
Maybe some extra work may help with remembering what was learned. Some study material to help reenforce what was learned.
All in all I was happy with it.
Can't think of anything at the moment.
Maybe have students make their own example of how to use what they learned in class.
21. Other comments:

17. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked doing Assignment 21 because I really loved the design I made and the colors matched the Youtube video I posed
I enjoyed doing the daily assignments/projects. They really helped me to understand and remember the material covered in class.
The technology in the classroom was top notch. The projector screen with high res was absolute to the knowledge of the class. Mr. Albritton has a great sense of humor and he adds excitement to the class.
Great course. The material was well presnted.
the powerpoints were helpful the content small assignments daily
Learning all about web design and learning all the codes that we needed to do for our work
Showing what is happening in the program through written explanations on the board.
Easy to understand
I really appreciate the structure of the assignments. Creating a lesson plan in which all new topics are explained and applied without the need of hw or programs outside of the class time is very helpful. The somewhat rigid design isnt ideal for most, but it's roots in discipline and efficiency keep me motivated and allowed me to do much better in this class than others.
we always have fun in class.
The class set us up for a good amount of information on web coding.
His power points were very clear cut, and easy to follow whenever I missed a class. Everything was very straight forward, there were no gray areas or difficult concepts. This was a very cool class.
How it was a very hands on class and I was able to finish most of my assignments in class
18. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Well, I did struggle with Assignment 20. But It doesn't bother me that much now.
Nothing.
The class was a little chilly. Hey you asked.
sometimes cannot understand the examples cannot resubmit work
NONE
Didn't really go through a whole program being written step by step to try and give individual understanding at different parts.
The course matter itself can be frustrating, but there's no helping that.
none
I'm not really comfortable with the final group project idea.
learning about the positioning of the contents on the page, text aligning was straight forward, as was the border and table and padding stuff. but when it came to positioning all elements, like iframes and videos etc. that got very confusing.

20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
So far, I think there's nothing wrong. The lectures are clear enough and the powerpoints and the class examples on Laulima are there for reference.
My only suggestion would be to go over some materials again in order for the students to remember it better.
There is always room for improvement.
learning more codes if not in class or learning how to code something specific
keep the course how it is
Do a few programs in real time in front of class to show what each part of the program does. Explaining how to write them and why it is that way.
1) Longer assignments. 2) More projects
All the help was there, all the structure was there, and the instructor was probably one of the best i've had, especially for this subject matter. Don't change a thing.
none
I would change the final project thing a bit. Working in a group just adds more stress.
It would be nice if the positioning power point was a little more spread out, its kind of a lot, or I could just have trouble grasping it. it could just be me. Its a convoluted portion.
21. Other comments:
Thank you Mr. Albritton for your great attitude and knowledge of the HTML coding world. I appreciate your wealth of information and I enjoyed the projects with adding my own creativity. Go Bama!!
Learned alot thanks!
i would tell my friends about him and tell them to take this course
I am really looking forward to taking more classes in this subject area and with this instructor.
NA
The course was great, I learned an amazing amount, I always thought coding was rocket science, but just like assembling a gaming pc, step by step, its really not that crazy. And Mr. Albritton was very easy to interact with, and very eager to help students, he never got frustrated with repetitive questions and was always willing to explain something twice. An excellent professor.
