13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Great Professor, easy to talk to, clear about assignments and tests.
Excellent professor with vast amounts of knowledge about American history and how it relates to the world
GREAT professor
Professor Tripp has definitely become one of my favorite professors to have so far at UH.
Fair in all ways.
Professor Tripp was an amazing teacher. He was very informative and worked hard to keep the class engaged in the content. I also appreciate that he jokes around in class; it makes class more fun and enjoyable to attend. I would definitely recommend others to take this course from Professor Tripp!
Prof Tripp is engaged and "comfortable" with his class. He relates well to the students and created a thoughtful environment to explore some less than savory aspects of American History (without any political bias). Hope to see him tenured (if he isn't already) and expand the class to two semesters to enable a more thorough examination of the issues. TA Jesi Bennett did a very good job leading the facilitating discussions on Fridays, reinforcing/supplementing the material. I also appreciated her unique perspective from her background in native / indigenous cultures in Oceania.
He is approachable, and personable. He has a thorough knowledge of the material he presents.
One of the best professors at the school.
He's a great professor that is knowledgeable and enthusiastic about his field of studies. He is also very approachable and always open to discuss any question that students have. I would recommend him to other students.
Overall, a well educated teacher with knowledge of U.S. history and our relations in the world today.
I liked your stories, they made the lectures more interesting.

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
leaning about world events and how it relates to the course
Migration.
I liked that Professor Tripp tried to keep us engaged in the material. I especially liked the videos he showed us and some of the class discussions. They helped to keep the class focused on the topic of discussion.
Learning and studying events that had previously only been given a "sanitized" treatment from established conventional history books approved by some Texas Textbook Committee. Getting other prospectives from the "victims" or minorities involved was most illuminating. Having smaller section discussion groups were helpful in facilitating student interaction
I liked the variety of material we covered, including the texts we read (Maus, American Holocaust, Interesting Narrative of the Life of Equiano).
The group project was fun.
Although it's hard to pick just one aspect of the course, I would say collaborating in groups to arrive at a conclusion based off a topic that required deep thought.
Group projects on Friday lab with Jesi were a great chance to engage the material comfortably and learn somethings outside the text.
I liked how the labs were smaller groups and reinforced what we were learning in class.
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
the amount of reading that had to be done with the semester
Humanities portions.
The only thing I dislike is that there were a lot of readings to do, but I understand that that is just a part of college and something I have to get used to.
The room is ridiculously freezing. A very poor learning environment.
Nothing stands out.
The lack of time to cover topics on a deeper level.
Lectures, at times, felt rushed and as if we might have skipped over points and issues that would appear later, such as in the midterm
I didn't like how the ppts didn't include the main points so I didn't know what to take notes on.
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
good
It was interesting.
Although I was not engrossed in the material at all times, I really did find this course interesting and enjoyed it greatly. I am leaving this course with a lot of new knowledge and the ability to look at events more critically. I would definitely recommend it to others.
An excellent course for a broad overview of America's impact on the world. Again, if we only had more time! There was a nice mix of writing & creative presentation assignments.
This was an enjoyable class.
I would take it again with him.
I took this course to fulfill one of my GEs and I wished I took it earlier. Professor Tripp did a wonderful job engaging the students to think about the significance of topics brought into his class.
Overall, good. A good teacher teaching the materials and for those who are especially interested in comparing U.S. history and our current world affairs, I think it would be of interest.
I learned the importance of keeping up with current events

Why does the course feel like a humanities course?
Not to be too nerdy, but given the limited amount of class time to cover such broad topics, if Dr. Tripp added a final slide with links to additional resources for further study it would surely be a benefit to those students who want to explore more. What am I talking about, it would probably not be utilized by many and may not be worth the trouble. . .

13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Smart and enthusiastic.
Very interested and knowledgeable in the topics of the course. Makes every topic pretty interesting and encourages question asking, etc. Great teacher.
He is an amazing professor with a great knowledge and understanding of world problems and historical events. I really having him as a professor.
He is a teacher knowledgable about American history, teaching from a perspective that is not normally shared in the classroom. It is good to know both sides of actual events to realize how the US has become an empire and super power of this time. I enjoy his charisma and easily relatable attitude towards students. He is a great teacher and the course is enlightening.
well-organized, hard-working professor.
I found his class very engaging and I liked how he kept it interesting. I feel like I learned a lot and built a different perspective for how our country is viewed by the rest of the world. He is a great teacher!
Prof. Tripp kept me very engaged in the class! I loved how he related it to current events and updated the class on global events!
Professor Tripp always made the effort let us know about his office hours and when the American Studies department had an event. He was always open during class to any questions we might have and tried to lead a little bit of class discussions during class. Professor Tripp kept history interesting by relating it back to us and how it may or may not effect us. That's what I liked best!
He is very enthusiastic and brings energy to each class. I am very glad i took this course
Great!
Greta professor, made the course interesting. Was very engaging.
Professor Tripp is a great teacher. He's very knowledgeable and has great stories. I've learned a lot from this course and I'm happy I took AMST 150.
Very good teacher, the course was far more interesting that I thought it was going to be. I learned different takes on history that I never learned in high school.

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The lectures and videos in class.
I like the friday classes where it is more of a discussion based class. I enjoy talking about issues and learning more through communicating with my peers.
I loved learning about past and present events that are affecting the world. History is an amazing topic and I learned more than I could have asked for.
I enjoyed talking about indigenous peoples of America and the history of colonization. Much of that is rarely touched upon in most academic settings, which is unfortunate. I enjoy how each topic is related to a world view and world relations. I enjoy that history can be tied in with current events which both reflect common trends and ideology.
The development of the course. It started from thee past until now, including the world issues.
I really liked our friday discussions because it helped me a lot to go over what we had done in class. I liked the information that we learned.
I enjoyed learning about slavery.
I liked learning about what was currently happening around the world and how it relates to us in indirect or direct ways.
i like how the lectures lead to a class section where the topics covered are discussed further in these smaller sections
I liked all the videos and the personal touch he added to each lecture.
Course touched upon important things and everything we went over seemed to be relevant to us as students and young people.
I enjoyed learning about nazi Germany and the Holocaust the most.
I liked the lectures. They were interesting and I didn't feel forced to take notes I was able to focus on what Mr. Tripp was saying and follow along with the pictures on the slides.
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I did not have a part of the course that I didn't like. Although, there is a lot of reading to do and it can get overwhelming by the end of the semester.
Some of the discussion sections were boring compared to lecture and it would have been nice to see more debates and talks.
The only aspects I did not enjoy was that our class is only 50 minutes so at times we have to go quickly and briefly through lecture material, of which I would need to go over a few times more myself.
The discussion session (Friday class). Sometimes I think TA should encourage students to participate more in class. About the class attendance, sometimes TA used the assignments (four assignments) handed in in class instead of using class attendant check-list. Some students came to class but didn't not hand in their homework on that day. I think they are in different parts: class attendance and assignment.
There was not anything that i particularly did not like. It was all pretty engaging and interesting.
Although I enjoyed learning about the war we are involved in with Iraq I am a bit confused to what exactly is going on currently.
I thought that everything was fair game.
there were fewer in class activities than i wish could have taken place
His tone of voice get monotone sometimes (not always!), and hes VERY quite, so it hard to hear him sometimes, and the fact that hes so quite makes me loose my attention because i hate having to work so hard to listen.
N/A
I wasn't a fan of Equiano.
Remembering to sign in for attendance. For some reason I would forget a lot!
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
I really enjoyed the course and I hope that I have many more courses like this one in my future. It was the perfect integration of lecture, reading, and discussion.
Great course, learned a lot and had a good time doing it. One of my favorites this year.
It is not just a history class. It is not just an American studies class. This class is insightful and allows students to think critically about what they think they know. It is good to question what we have been taught in the past to shape what we believe to be true now. I highly recommend this course.
I like it. I helps me understand the U.S. better.
That I enjoyed it and found it interesting and my teacher and assistant were both complimentary to each other. They both did really well at making sure everyone understood everything.
This class is manageable and is very interesting
Overall, I did not expect to love this course as much as I did. This course was definitely more than just another history class. We got to learn a vast amount of information about America and its relations around the world. This class gave me an awareness to many topics such as effects of nuclear power, and the impact of climate change. This course proved to be useful in the long run. Thanks Professor Tripp!
very good course filled with a lot to learn on American history.
Good course. Glad i took it.
5/5

great AMST course that people should definitely take.

Thank you! I learned a lot from you! I enjoyed how you try to connect with the students!
Tests are very fair! They are making sure you understand the material, not memorizing dates and names. I love how he tests (not saying its super easy, but super fair!)
The assignments aren't bad at all. And if you understand the material you'll do fine on the midterm and final.

2. If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
Very encouraging, more than just history.
My personal major is business and Mr. Tripp helped my concentration/major learning about the history of America and as well the business sides to history and companies.
This class definitely taught me how to better approach an argumentative paper, especially one that I was stuck in. It also cleared up events in history that I was unsure or unaware of before.
This course was not taken to fulfill my course requirements for my major but i did make me enjoy history.
It is a subject that I thuroughly enjoy and appreciate its value.
It furthered my knowledge of our past and present and the men and women that helped shape it.
In the beginning, I thought I couldn't find any reference to my major, but learning the different types of philosophies from the past will help me become a better leader and help broaden my view of things.
It gave me an overview of history since 1500-present.

5. Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
He's an excellent teacher, I don't think he needs any improvements. I was able to be engaged in class through his interesting lectures and the way he organized his course, which made it easy for me to follow and be caught up with everything. Overall, this course was excellent.
More videos that catch the interests of students.
Mr. Tripp exercises a great sense of activities and resources; nothing to be added.
The presentations that were uploaded to view at home were lacking in content, and rather relied on the lecture given in class. It would be better if there were a better way for someone who missed class to catch up on the lectures.
Online announcenments.
nothing
The only thing I can think of would be more time for discussions, but I guess that would depends more on the type of people in the class.
Just allowing individuals to work by themselves if they choose to. The midterm game was probably the coolest game. May another variation of that for the final as well. Book discussions were nice to, maybe discussions like book reviews will help retain important aspect for future test/quizzes.
The class could incorporate more in class discussions to further the comprehension of the material.
No Comment, continue teaching with the same teaching style. The stuff we do in class helps me retain most of everything I have learned.

Professor Tripp included interesting life examples that tied back to the lecture which allowed me to be very engaged. His style and method was just right for me. I was able to follow what he's teaching and I was able to understand through the methods he used.
none it's already good.
I wouldn't improve anything for this instructor. Mr. Tripp over all has a great sense and style to teaching.
Just having more resources available for those who missed class.
Online announcements of assignments and quizzes.
nothing, he is a great teacher
Emphasis key dates in history, you don't focus on dates which is great. Just add a few though to keep timelines clear.
I think their good

Overall good teacher who is enthusiastic about their subject.
He is a great teacher and that his style of teaching was refreshing.
Great. He is a really good teacher.
Outstanding professor!! He keeps things interesting and relevant. Works with his students, and connects with them. If possible I would take another class with Jeffery Tripp.
A polite, easy going man that looks out for his students and helps them exceed,
Great teacher, allowed us an insight of his passion (Korea) and the stories he told were a nice way for us to connect to him.
Over effective teaching style, very well paced, lectures were informative and easily comprehensible.
I enjoy his type of teaching style. He makes history fun and easy to follow.

Excellent course!
none.
Extremely fruitful of history.
A very good class that matches what one anticipates to learn when they take this class. Although it's not possible to teach everything, the things that were taught were important in history, and important to today, especially the closer the issues got with the present date.
Great class and keeps your mind thinking of the past and future events.
Positive.
I enjoyed every moment of this class, I learned a lot, and was given much to think about. The course work is reasonable, relevant, and interesting.
A great class.
It was a very informative and engaging course, it allowed us to understand aspects of history through a very interactive environment.
I absolutely would recommend this course. Doesn't matter what major, you are guaranteed to get something out of this class

Terrific class.
The first book we read in class was really good in opening the course up and getting an over view as what we were going to be studying. I would continue to use it.

Even though I'm not a History major, this class really help me understand why our government does this or why other countries leaders do this and so on. Also, helped me understand economic and political issues in history and today!
My major is Public Administration concentrating in Health Care Admin. This course helped me to communicate with my peers, sharing ideas, and researching.
It taught me about popular rebels, which I think is a good thing to know about. It's just general knowledge that is good to know.
I suppose he kept a boring subject interesting. That's probably one of the most valuable things a teacher can be expected to do. If anything, it keeps the possibility of history as a pursuit open instead of automatically closing it due to the lack of interest.
The knowledge and insight of the history studied in this class allowed me to understand new information of our worlds history and enabled me to process this and understand the importance of implementing them into my own lifes thoughts and decisions.
It was taken to fulfill one of my general education requirements.
This course helped me learn about world history and the many historical events. This course helped me learn about the significant beings and what they did to make an impact in history.
No, it was not.
I am just doing my liberals right now, so this class was required to take. I thought this class was really interesting and history was always my least favorite subject. I looked forward to coming to class because it was so boring and it wasn't always a lecture. The activities were fun and it was nice to get to interact with other students. The books we read were really good and I understood why you chose them for our class, it related.
I learned a lot about whats going on in the world now.
This course enhance my personal concentration because I was able to learn how certain people changed the world and made It was it is today.
I took this class not because I need it for my major but I took it for my Gen. Ed. But I learned a lot in this class especially about what's been happening around since the 1500's.
Knowing our history is important because it enabled me to understand how we got to where we are today. Learning history also helps us learn from our previous mistakes.
This class has taught me to work with many different people.
Helped me learn more about History.

jeopardy for extra credit. more quizzes on the books
Pick more interesting books to read over the semester that relates to the course.
No need to improve! :D
alot of group work and hands on class though
None! All the activities were great!

The note taking was a little difficult. Some of the main points would not be in the slide, and I feel like if it is important then it should be written down.
There are not that many things you should improve on. I'm completely satisfied on the balancing of activities that you do. Please maintain your routine as it has helped a lot in understanding the information you give to us. One thing you can change is maybe to explain the readings to us AFTER the quiz with each on-going chapter.
Actually overall it was fairly solid so I don't feel like there are any resources I needed that weren't available.
Great use of media, and book resources and group work exercises to help the class learn more effeciently.
Maybe more time for midterm and final reviews. Other than that, the activities following lectures are an excellent way to practice what we just covered.
I like the activities that occur in class. Keep doing them!
It would be better if we went over the worksheets we did in class.
I thought everything was good.
Its good
I think that if they had a textbook with some of the information it would be easier to follow and study.
We should have outdoor activities.
We do a lot of activities in this class that requires participation. I enjoyed all of the activities because they all very engaging and fun. Also, I learn new things in a different way besides having to listen from lectures.
Create a timeline of the major events that happened.
I think there could be more media examples such as video clips, handouts, or more in class activities.
I suggest more group work after every lecture.
Everything was fine. There were some classes that involved lectures and some that involved group activity. There was a good balance.

give us a mock exam by using those styles in your quizzes so people are familiar with what you are expecting.
Nothing. Everything was good.
none

None.
a little less book reading more history homework
Dr. Tripp's teaching style and methods does not need any improving.
Put important key terms in the slides.
Maintain your teaching style as it was very helpful. I enjoyed having activities after lectures as it made things easily understandable. Readings should be a bit more reasonable when it comes to how many pages we must read. If we were to read only small chapters of a book - it would have been better to buy one book and print out those specified chapters so the students don't have to spend a lot of money.
not really much to improve. The most important thing is that he was enthusiastic which is vital in keeping the class interesting.
Keep on doing what you do, its working.
Maybe emphasize and discuss key terms more thoroughly, as they are important for the midterm and final exam.
The course is already good as it is. Teaching style is on point, it is just up to the students to put in their effort or not.
If you organized your power points so it was easier to understand.
No comment, hes already a good teacher
Using a textbook for class would help studying for tests.
Nothing much, keep up the good job. However, more activities would be fine.
I don't have anything against him because he's been a great teacher to us. He tries to answer all of our questions to the best of his abilities. He's very nice too! He give's us rewards like chocolates and coffee when we do our work.
We could've discussed the books more. For example, we should talk about how the book is developing so far. Discussing the book for only one day and taking a quiz about each book only once makes me feel like buying the books was only a rip-off because we can just read online summaries to find out the important notes on the book.
I like the readings but I wish the reading related more to the time period we were talking about in class.
Videos should be shown in lectures for a better understanding of the lesson.
Make the prezi's more in-depth
17. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
he's an excellent professor that knows how to teach. he's not boring but interesting to listen to. and always has an answer for every question
he is a great teacher because he is very friendly and humorous. He is very organized and he teaches the material we are suppose to learn in a fun way. His lectures are surprisely not boring. The activities gets you thinking while having fun. He brings the class closer together because the activities consist of interacting with other classmates. He also gives extra credit which really helps.
He is an AMAZING history teacher.
I loved the class. Teacher knows his fact.
He is one of the best History teachers I've had! He really cares about his students and always answers our questions. His teaching methods are great and very helpful. And he is lenient.
He loves his job.
Dr. Tripp is a nice person and easy to get along with. As far as i know everyone feels comfortable around him. He is a very good teacher!!!!
He is a good teacher who knows how to make history a little less boring. He taught history through other types of mediums. Such as through the history of drinks, and with other stories.
Great teacher! When a teacher is easily approachable, it makes the subject and the learning much more easier and exciting. One of the few instructors who truly care about their students and their subject. I never dreaded a day of going to your class!
Pretty good. I would take his class again if he taught another class I needed to graduate.
Awesome job Dr. Tripp.
He is an excellent professor, who made a boring subject like history interesting. Although there was heavy reading, I can see why the text was assigned as it was very relevant to what we were covering at the time. I would take a class instructed by him again, if given the opportunity.
Awesome professor! Very insightful and covers the material well with the prezi presentations. Course requirements are not too much, nor are they too little.
AW
funny teacher. Approachable Knowledgeable knows how to keep students interested keeps class interesting
Great teacher
Dr.Tripp is a good teacher he makes things easier to understand.
He is a cool funny professor. He interacts with the students and when help is wanted. He is comfortable to approach to.
He is a very good teacher. He's lectures are short and straight to the point. He gives a lot of engaging activities. Also, he is very generous in giving extra credit opportunities and accepting works that are emailed to him. He is not only our teacher but our friend too! AWESOME TEACHER! :)
Overall, I recommend Dr. Tripp. He is a perfect professor for a freshmen class. He gave many challenging assignments but despite all of those, he was very approachable and easy to understand. The challenges imposed on this course is no doubt a college level, but everybody in the class was so confident and supportive of each other. This is all due to Dr. Tripp's leadership skill and people skill.
GREAT TEACHER. easy to talk to
He is a good professor and he does a good job looking at 2 sides of the situation.
He is a good professor. He used examples that related to the class and made the subject interesting so the class would and could retain the information.
He was able to keep the course interesting while teaching us a lot about history.
Very helpful and understandable teacher. Unlike many professors, Tripp makes sure that the students are caught up into the lecture in order to move on.

20. My overall evaluation of this course is...
not for me, but at least it allowed me to know that i dont enjoy history so much
awesome because I learned a lot and my knowledge of history has expanded. I learned new things from lectures to books to activities.
10/10. good teacher=good class:)
definatley take it learned a lot about history
This was my favorite class out of all my other classes! His lectures are not boring like other history teachers. We always have something to talk about and tend to go off topic. We don't really use books. We always work in groups and do fun stuff!
Too much to cover in the time allotted for the course. Only basic info covered in each category.
I gained knowledge from Dr. Tripp's lectures. I really like learning about the corporation, things i didn't know before.
It's a good class. If I have to take another history class, it would be with Dr. Tripp.
I've taken AP History before and I have not understand most of the things that we discussed in class. This course has truthfully made me understand history in a simple and complex way. I have used information from history and applied it to many of my other classes. When you discuss a topic about history out of class - you are certainly learning.
An A I suppose. I wouldn't normally enjoy history, so it was a relief that this class was as interesting as it was.
Typically bland material, but it became interesting because my classmates and professor was very friendly and interactive.
This course was enjoyable. The activities made learning about history fun.
AWESOME :)
I learned a lot of things that I didn't know before. Although this class was assigned to him late, I thought he was prepared and knew what he had to teach.
Very informational, and very important to know for the future of us people and this world
This course was very informative and helped me understand history more. Some of the books we read were okay overall the readings were not so interesting, but it worked well with the topics we were talking about at that time in class.
Keep up the good job, this history course is my favorite class to attend and participate too. Most importantly I was able to learn a lot in this course.
This course was very helpful to me. It helped me understand how things changed over time. How things like wars happens and how a certain event leads to another one. And about the books, I loved reading them. It was a good way to learn new things about history. It worked great for me because I love to read and when I read for this class I don't feel like "I'm reading this book because I have to learn" but it's more of like "I'm reading this book because it's interesting!" I enjoyed every bit of it! :)
The course was really helpful. I learned many things that was not discussed during high school. The course was very challenging but everything was doable.
I like this course it challenged me to do better in the area of History.
It was very interesting, it was not your typicall history class with memorization of dates and names
Very well planned out calendar. This course also provides informative lectures.
Good learning experience if you show up to class.
21. Other comments:
I enjoyed this course. Every class time was never boring.
History is a very tough subject to make it sound interesting.. out of my past 6 years I have never enjoyed history this much.
n/a
Class is never boring! Always energetic and fun! Although we need like 5 reading books to read and have quizzes on them...its not that bad! He takes the best 10 quiz scores and drops the other 2 worst scores.. so you can like bomb a quiz if you didn't read a book! (:
THANK YOU DR. TRIPP!! I AM SO SAD I WONT BE HAVING YOU AS A HISTORY TEACHER NEXT SEMESTER :(
He brought coffee in once, which was pretty cool, and relevant since we were discussing drinks and history in class.
I had fun this semester.
All in all, this class was very helpful and fun. Like I said, I learned a lot and I've established great relationship with my classmates. I think one of the things that helped me achieve this is through our class activities. Thank you for everything Dr Tripp. If I have the chance to take this class again, I would definitely do.
Dr. Tripp made my freshman experience really enjoyable. He was strict, but fun at the same time. His sense of humor and formality were balanced. His gracefulness did not, at all, made us forget that he is our professor and he should be respected. In fact, this enabled us to work efficiently and the best of our class time. Everyone was engaged and willing to share their opinions and questions.
I believe that the numbers of books that are needed to be read should be reduced.

13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Jeff is an amazing professor because he's flexible in helping us learn his material/topics through subjects we care about. This means we're actually learning how to think critically about everyday/nonacademic things and communicate our ideas to other people. We're not just typing out papers on the books we've read. We never had to stick to a strict discussion schedule for each class period, and he let us talk about whatever we wanted, as long as our conversations were relevant to the course. I also think Jeff made us all comfortable and got to know us, which made asking for help really easy. We were never embarrassed to ask silly questions or admit when we didn't understand something.
Reasonable, effective and considerate.
very good professor, had a lot of good information about u.s. and world events
beyond awesome!
He is a great professor who is really easy to not only talk to, but also to relate to.
Super intelligent and nice guy. He encourages discussion and questions which is awesome. His experiences in North Korea sound very interesting. I'm happy that he was able to answer my questions regarding government and politics, and he seems very knowledgeable about the world's issues which provide for aptly well-rounded discussions.
He is a very congenial person and it helps a lot when trying to encourage class discussions. He in very well informed about current world issues as well.
Excellent Professor who makes the class engage in discussions on the class topics and who has a deep understanding of the material and the arguments.
One of the most amazing professors I have ever had. Encourages his students to learn and participate! He chose text that really connect to students and makes it easy to WANT to read them.
He is a great guy and really knows his stuff. Great professor.
He's awesome and teaches really well in his lectures.
Very good! It is obvious that he knows what he's talking about, and he's very easy to talk to, so whenever I had problems, it was easy to talk to him about it.

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I loved the selection of books! The Shock Doctrine, Dismantling the Empire, and Empire of Illusion are really great choices to convey the ideas Jeff wanted us to think about. I didn't really like the Michael Jordan book, but I still thought it was a unique and useful way to learn about globalization. Best assigned readings I've had for any class, for sure. I also enjoyed the weekly discussion questions, as they helped us engage with the readings and incorporate our own interests into the material.
It was a discussion/intellectual round table type of course.
the discussions we had and the movies cause it helped to see the issues and understand them
I loved the films because they were really deep and heavy and went very well with the whole point of this class. Also, I enjoyed the discussions - listening to everyone's POVs and their knowledge of other parts of the world.
I enjoyed the readings and the discussion questions/comments that we were required to post.
I like the seminar style class. I also liked the final project which was a research project - it was very fun and I learned a ton. Interesting class to raise awareness of America's presence in the world. Exactly what I was hoping the course would be.
Class discussions about topics brought up in assigned readings.
I enjoyed the class discussions because of the way it was much more interactive than a lecture. Jeff was always available for insight.
Great book selection and easy to discuss.
Everything we learned about America and its world role.
Participation.
The readings were amazing. There were things I had never known about, or thought about in the books. I am also happy that we didnt have many tests or quizzes. I preferred the discussions more than having to remember things.
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
This Wikispaces thing is painful. I'd much rather write a sixteen-pager.
Each class period was longer than normal.
amount of reading
A few of the books were very dense, but I understand why he chose those books. I also did not like that we only met once a week! This topic on America is very heavy and so much to learn more and talk about more.
Writing the 10-page paper, I do better when it's broken up, but that's just me :)
Disliked the pop quizzes. Also, some of the readings felt one-sided about American empire ideas.
The group project. But that's only because I'm great at procrastination and i never start anything in a timely matter.
I suppose I didn't enjoy the first book very much.
3 hours long
Nothing.
I wasn't fond of the classroom.
17. My overall evaluation of this course is...
I honestly think this is the best course I've taken at UH so far, and it has really helped me to understand topics in other American Studies courses.
Stimulating and entertaining
very good course. gave me new insight and information about the u.s. and its role in the world
spectacular
Excellent. One of the best non-science class that I've ever taken.
Excellent!!! Very interesting. Everyone should know the role of their country in the world.
A great class! This class is for people who want to become thinkers and learn about not just America, but the world.
Awesome course. I'd recommend it to any student.
recommend it to anyone who wants to learn in a fun and exciting way
This is an awesome class.
Very good class.
Amazing. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone.

Challenging discussion and rewarding.

The discussion was very open and not too structured. I also liked that the class was split into groups to minimize the overwhelming discussion posts. I also liked the fact that there were no textbooks, just paperbacks that were easily available online or the bookstores.
Choice of reading material.

The discussions, and the books that were chosen for this course.
Open discussion forum.
17. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
The topics for the paper were sometimes difficult to defend or support.
Remembering to do discussion I kept forgetting with the accelerated reading pace.
Cannot think of any right now.
Tight time frame to complete a writing assignment
