2. If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
|
| No, it was not. |
| This class has taught me to work with many different people. |
| Even though I'm not a History major, this class really help me understand why our government does this or why other countries leaders do this and so on. Also, helped me understand economic and political issues in history and today! |
| My major is Public Administration concentrating in Health Care Admin. This course helped me to communicate with my peers, sharing ideas, and researching. |
| yes, its part of my liberals |
| This course enhance my personal concentration because I was able to learn how certain people changed the world and made It was it is today. |
| This course helped me learn about world history and the many historical events. This course helped
me learn about the significant beings and what they did to make an impact in history. |
| I took this class not because I need it for my major but I took it for my Gen. Ed. But I learned a lot in this class especially about what's been happening around since the 1500's. |
| I suppose he kept a boring subject interesting. That's probably one of the
most valuable things a teacher can be expected to do. If anything, it keeps
the possibility of history as a pursuit open instead of automatically closing
it due to the lack of interest. |
| I learned a lot about whats going on in the world now. |
| Helped me learn more about History. |
| n/a |
| I am just doing my liberals right now, so this class was required to take. I thought this class was really interesting and history was always my least favorite subject. I looked forward to coming to class because it was so boring and it wasn't always a lecture. The activities were fun and it was nice to get to interact with other students. The books we read were really good and I understood why you chose them for our class, it related. |
| It was taken to fulfill one of my general education requirements. |
| The knowledge and insight of the history studied in this class allowed me to understand new information of our worlds history and enabled me to process this and understand the importance of implementing them into my own lifes thoughts and decisions. |
| Knowing our history is important because it enabled me to understand how we
got to where we are today. Learning history also helps us learn from our
previous mistakes. |
| I have improved my research paper skills |
| It taught me about popular rebels, which I think is a good thing to know about. It's just general
knowledge that is good to know. |

5. Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
|
| It would be better if we went over the worksheets we did in class. |
| I think there could be more media examples such as video clips, handouts, or more in class activities. |
| None! All the activities were great! |

| There are not that many things you should improve on. I'm completely satisfied on the balancing of
activities that you do.
Please maintain your routine as it has helped a lot in understanding the information you give to us.
One thing you can change is maybe to explain the readings to us AFTER the quiz with each on-going
chapter. |
| jeopardy for extra credit.
more quizzes on the books |
| We should have outdoor activities. |
| Pick more interesting books to read over the semester that relates to the course. |
| I like the activities that occur in class. Keep doing them! |
| We do a lot of activities in this class that requires participation. I enjoyed all of the activities because they all very engaging and fun. Also, I learn new things in a different way besides having to listen from lectures. |
| Actually overall it was fairly solid so I don't feel like there are any
resources I needed that weren't available. |
| I think that if they had a textbook with some of the information it would be easier to follow and
study. |
| Everything was fine. There were some classes that involved lectures and some that involved group
activity. There was a good balance. |
| alot of group work and hands on class though |
| I thought everything was good. |
| Maybe more time for midterm and final reviews. Other than that, the activities following lectures are
an excellent way to practice what we just covered. |
| Great use of media, and book resources and group work exercises to help the class learn more effeciently. |
| I suggest more group work after every lecture. |
| Create a timeline of the major events that happened. |
| No need to improve! :D |
| Its good |
| The note taking was a little difficult. Some of the main points would not be in the slide, and I feel
like if it is important then it should be written down. |

16. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
|
| If you organized your power points so it was easier to understand. |
| a little less book reading more history homework |
| None. |
| Dr. Tripp's teaching style and methods does not need any improving. |
| Maintain your teaching style as it was very helpful.
I enjoyed having activities after lectures as it made things easily understandable.
Readings should be a bit more reasonable when it comes to how many pages we must read.
If we were to read only small chapters of a book - it would have been better to buy one book and
print out those specified chapters so the students don't have to spend a lot of money. |
| give us a mock exam by using those styles in your quizzes so people are familiar with what you are
expecting. |
| Nothing much, keep up the good job. However, more activities would be fine. |
| Nothing. Everything was good. |
| The course is already good as it is. Teaching style is on point, it is just up to the students to put in
their effort or not. |
| I don't have anything against him because he's been a great teacher to us. He tries to answer all of our questions to the best of his abilities. He's very nice too! He give's us rewards like chocolates and coffee when we do our work. |
| not really much to improve. The most important thing is that he was
enthusiastic which is vital in keeping the class interesting. |
| Using a textbook for class would help studying for tests. |
| Make the prezi's more in-depth |
| I like the readings but I wish the reading related more to the time period we
were talking about in class. |
| tell more of your stories |
| Maybe emphasize and discuss key terms more thoroughly, as they are important for the midterm
and final exam. |
| Keep on doing what you do, its working. |
| Videos should be shown in lectures for a better understanding of the lesson. |
| We could've discussed the books more. For example, we should talk about how
the book is developing so far. Discussing the book for only one day and
taking a quiz about each book only once makes me feel like buying the books
was only a rip-off because we can just read online summaries to find out the
important notes on the book. |
| none |
| No comment, hes already a good teacher |
| Put important key terms in the slides. |
|

17. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
|
| AW |
| He is a good professor. He used examples that related to the class and made the subject interesting so the class would and could retain the information. |
| He loves his job. |
| He is one of the best History teachers I've had! He really cares about his students and always answers our questions. His teaching methods are great and very helpful. And he is lenient. |
| Dr. Tripp is a nice person and easy to get along with. As far as i know everyone feels comfortable around him. He is a very good teacher!!!! |
| Great teacher!
When a teacher is easily approachable, it makes the subject and the learning much more easier and
exciting.
One of the few instructors who truly care about their students and their subject.
I never dreaded a day of going to your class! |
| he's an excellent professor that knows how to teach.
he's not boring but interesting to listen to.
and always has an answer for every question |
| He is a cool funny professor. He interacts with the students and when help is wanted. He is comfortable to approach to. |
| he is a great teacher because he is very friendly and humorous. He is very organized and he teaches the material we are suppose to learn in a fun way. His lectures are surprisely not boring. The activities gets you thinking while having fun. He brings the class closer together because the activities consist of interacting with other classmates. He also gives extra credit which really helps. |
| Awesome professor! Very insightful and covers the material well with the prezi presentations. Course
requirements are not too much, nor are they too little. |
| He is a very good teacher. He's lectures are short and straight to the point. He gives a lot of engaging activities. Also, he is very generous in giving extra credit opportunities and accepting works that are emailed to him. He is not only our teacher but our friend too! AWESOME TEACHER! :) |
| Pretty good. I would take his class again if he taught another class I needed
to graduate. |
| Dr.Tripp is a good teacher he makes things easier to understand. |
| Good teacher. It wasn't a boring class and I enjoyed it. |
| He is a good professor and he does a good job looking at 2 sides of the
situation. |
| I loved the class. Teacher knows his fact. |
| funny teacher.
Approachable
Knowledgeable
knows how to keep students interested
keeps class interesting |
| He is an excellent professor, who made a boring subject like history interesting. Although there was
heavy reading, I can see why the text was assigned as it was very relevant to what we were covering
at the time. I would take a class instructed by him again, if given the opportunity. |
| Awesome job Dr. Tripp. |
| GREAT TEACHER. easy to talk to |
| Very helpful and understandable teacher. Unlike many professors, Tripp makes sure that the
students are caught up into the lecture in order to move on. |
| Overall, I recommend Dr. Tripp. He is a perfect professor for a freshmen
class. He gave many challenging assignments but despite all of those, he was
very approachable and easy to understand. The challenges imposed on this
course is no doubt a college level, but everybody in the class was so
confident and supportive of each other. This is all due to Dr. Tripp's
leadership skill and people skill. |
| He is an AMAZING history teacher. |
| Great teacher |
| He was able to keep the course interesting while teaching us a lot about history. |
| He is a good teacher who knows how to make history a little less boring. He taught history through
other types of mediums. Such as through the history of drinks, and with other stories. |

20. My overall evaluation of this course is...
|
| AWESOME :) |
| It was very interesting, it was not your typicall history class with memorization of dates and names |
| Too much to cover in the time allotted for the course. Only basic info covered in each category. |
| This was my favorite class out of all my other classes! His lectures are not boring like other history teachers. We always have something to talk about and tend to go off topic. We don't really use books. We always work in groups and do fun stuff! |
| I gained knowledge from Dr. Tripp's lectures. I really like learning about the corporation, things i didn't know before. |
| I've taken AP History before and I have not understand most of the things that we discussed in class.
This course has truthfully made me understand history in a simple and complex way.
I have used information from history and applied it to many of my other classes.
When you discuss a topic about history out of class - you are certainly learning. |
| not for me, but at least it allowed me to know that i dont enjoy history so much |
| Keep up the good job, this history course is my favorite class to attend and participate too. Most importantly I was able to learn a lot in this course. |
| awesome because I learned a lot and my knowledge of history has expanded. I learned new things from lectures to books to activities. |
| This course was enjoyable. The activities made learning about history fun. |
| This course was very helpful to me. It helped me understand how things changed over time. How things like wars happens and how a certain event leads to another one. And about the books, I loved reading them. It was a good way to learn new things about history. It worked great for me because I love to read and when I read for this class I don't feel like "I'm reading this book because I have to learn" but it's more of like "I'm reading this book because it's interesting!" I enjoyed every bit of it! :) |
| 10/10. good teacher=good class:) |
| An A I suppose. I wouldn't normally enjoy history, so it was a relief that
this class was as interesting as it was. |
| This course was very informative and helped me understand history more. Some of the books we
read were okay overall the readings were not so interesting, but it worked well with the topics we
were talking about at that time in class. |
| Good learning experience if you show up to class. |
| I like this course it challenged me to do better in the area of History. |
| definatley take it learned a lot about history |
| I learned a lot of things that I didn't know before. Although this class was assigned to him late, I thought he was prepared and knew what he had to teach. |
| Typically bland material, but it became interesting because my classmates and professor was very
friendly and interactive. |
| Very well planned out calendar. This course also provides informative lectures. |
| The course was really helpful. I learned many things that was not discussed
during high school. The course was very challenging but everything was
doable. |
| Very informational, and very important to know for the future of us people and this world |
| It's a good class. If I have to take another history class, it would be with Dr. Tripp. |
|
|
21. Other comments:
|
| Class is never boring! Always energetic and fun! Although we need like 5 reading books to read and have quizzes on them...its not that bad! He takes the best 10 quiz scores and drops the other 2 worst scores.. so you can like bomb a quiz if you didn't read a book! (: |
| THANK YOU DR. TRIPP!! I AM SO SAD I WONT BE HAVING YOU AS A HISTORY TEACHER NEXT SEMESTER :( |
| I enjoyed this course. Every class time was never boring. |
| All in all, this class was very helpful and fun. Like I said, I learned a lot and I've established great relationship with my classmates. I think one of the things that helped me achieve this is through our class activities. Thank you for everything Dr Tripp. If I have the chance to take this class again, I would definitely do. |
| He brought coffee in once, which was pretty cool, and relevant since we were
discussing drinks and history in class. |
| n/a |
| I had fun this semester. |
| I believe that the numbers of books that are needed to be read should be reduced. |
| Dr. Tripp made my freshman experience really enjoyable. He was strict, but
fun at the same time. His sense of humor and formality were balanced. His
gracefulness did not, at all, made us forget that he is our professor and he
should be respected. In fact, this enabled us to work efficiently and the
best of our class time. Everyone was engaged and willing to share their
opinions and questions. |
| History is a very tough subject to make it sound interesting.. out of my past 6 years I have never
enjoyed history this much. |

13. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
|
| Reasonable, effective and considerate. |
| He is a great guy and really knows his stuff. Great professor. |
| Jeff is an amazing professor because he's flexible in helping us learn his
material/topics through subjects we care about. This means we're actually
learning how to think critically about everyday/nonacademic things and
communicate our ideas to other people. We're not just typing out papers on
the books we've read. We never had to stick to a strict discussion schedule
for each class period, and he let us talk about whatever we wanted, as long
as our conversations were relevant to the course. I also think Jeff made us
all comfortable and got to know us, which made asking for help really easy.
We were never embarrassed to ask silly questions or admit when we didn't
understand something. |
| Excellent Professor who makes the class engage in discussions on the class topics and who
has a deep understanding of the material and the arguments. |
| Super intelligent and nice guy. He encourages discussion and questions which is awesome.
His experiences in North Korea sound very interesting. I'm happy that he was able to answer
my questions regarding government and politics, and he seems very knowledgeable about the
world's issues which provide for aptly well-rounded discussions. |
| Very good! It is obvious that he knows what he's talking about, and he's
very easy to talk to, so whenever I had problems, it was easy to talk to him
about it. |
| beyond awesome! |
| He is a very congenial person and it helps a lot when trying to encourage class discussions. He in very well informed about current world issues as well. |
| very good professor, had a lot of good information about u.s. and world events |
| One of the most amazing professors I have ever had. Encourages his students to learn and
participate! He chose text that really connect to students and makes it easy to WANT to read them. |
| He's awesome and teaches really well in his lectures. |
| He is a great professor who is really easy to not only talk to, but also to relate to. |

15. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
|
| It was a discussion/intellectual round table type of course. |
| Everything we learned about America and its world role. |
| I loved the selection of books! The Shock Doctrine, Dismantling the Empire,
and Empire of Illusion are really great choices to convey the ideas Jeff
wanted us to think about. I didn't really like the Michael Jordan book, but I
still thought it was a unique and useful way to learn about globalization.
Best assigned readings I've had for any class, for sure. I also enjoyed the
weekly discussion questions, as they helped us engage with the readings and
incorporate our own interests into the material. |
| I enjoyed the class discussions because of the way it was much more interactive than a
lecture. Jeff was always available for insight. |
| I like the seminar style class. I also liked the final project which was a research project - it was
very fun and I learned a ton. Interesting class to raise awareness of America's presence in
the world. Exactly what I was hoping the course would be. |
| The readings were amazing. There were things I had never known about, or
thought about in the books. I am also happy that we didnt have many tests or
quizzes. I preferred the discussions more than having to remember things. |
| I loved the films because they were really deep and heavy and went very well
with the whole point of this class. Also, I enjoyed the discussions -
listening to everyone's POVs and their knowledge of other parts of the world. |
| Class discussions about topics brought up in assigned readings. |
| the discussions we had and the movies cause it helped to see the issues and understand them |
| Great book selection and easy to discuss. |
| Participation. |
| I enjoyed the readings and the discussion questions/comments that we were required to post. |
|
|
16. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
|
| Each class period was longer than normal. |
| This Wikispaces thing is painful. I'd much rather write a sixteen-pager. |
| I suppose I didn't enjoy the first book very much. |
| Disliked the pop quizzes. Also, some of the readings felt one-sided about American empire
ideas. |
| I wasn't fond of the classroom. |
| A few of the books were very dense, but I understand why he chose those
books. I also did not like that we only met once a week! This topic on
America is very heavy and so much to learn more and talk about more. |
| The group project. But that's only because I'm great at procrastination and i never start anything in a timely matter. |
| amount of reading |
| 3 hours long |
| Nothing. |
| Writing the 10-page paper, I do better when it's broken up, but that's just me :) |
|

17. My overall evaluation of this course is...

really helped me to understand topics in other American Studies courses. |
| Awesome course. I'd recommend it to any student. |
| Excellent!!! Very interesting. Everyone should know the role of their country in the world. |
| Amazing. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone. |
| spectacular |
| A great class! This class is for people who want to become thinkers and learn about not just America, but the world. |
| very good course. gave me new insight and information about the u.s. and its role in the world |
| recommend it to anyone who wants to learn in a fun and exciting way |
| Very good class. |
| Excellent. One of the best non-science class that I've ever taken. |
|

|
| Easy to work with through open discussion. Responsible. Offered valid comments on writing assignments. |
| Challenging discussion and rewarding. |
| Pretty fair and reasonable online professor. The books and course load was manageable and not overwhelming. Also the required discussion was very informal and didn't put too much pressure to write a "correct" answer rather think critically and then share your opinion. |

| He is a great teacher, and is very knowledgeable. Very helpful, and makes you a better student! |
