13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
I think Mr. Yoshimurs's communication skills were awesome. As the class is a self-paced environment he made sure to send out numerous emails reminding students of where they should be at in the course. He also made sure to encourage students to stay with it if they were falling behind.
He is always encouraging us to finish our modules in a timely manner and always sent out reminder emails weekly letting us know where we stand. If you dont understand something he will help you to understand but will also make you think for yourself until you undersand
always offering help and very invested in his job
-Always on task -Helping each student personally at their pace
He was flexible, accurate and open.
patience. non-judgemental instruction and encouragement. kept walking around us in the lab, showing alertness and willingness to assist
Evans strengths as a teacher is that if you need help on a specific problem then he would explain it very well, and he will help you understand the problem and go over different examples until you understand the question.
Very encouraging
Evan really showed concern for his students by emailing them every week, sometimes twice a week to encourage them to finish the course and stay on track.
I enjoy Mr. Yoshimura, he has a special teaching technique to help students better understand. I am very pleased.
He definitely knows what he's doing! He helps you when you are confused on a math problem!
He cares for his students and will actually give you time if you need any major help.
I believe that he is very encouraging and very helpful towards everyone. He always offers additional help and guidance at the beginning and the end of the class if student have specific questions regarding a lesson.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
n/a
The only thing I would say is spend more time on answering a question. Explain it!
none
nothing.
None.
Nothing
Nothing!
Nothing really, his course was pretty self-explanatory.
I believe he should just sit back and relax during class. I notice that everyone seems to be walking around during class and sometimes this extra "security" gives students anxiety. I find it awkward that an advisor/teacher is always over the shoulders of students. I believe if students need help from the teacher or advisor, he or she, will raise their hands and ask. I would have really preferred if the class would have been more laid back in terms of not being watched like a hawk during the duration of class.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
see question 13!
He semds out reminder emails and also letting you know where you stand in the class or will email you asking if what he help you with has helped.
always asked if we had any questions
He made sure all the students had opportunity to ask questions in class. He also made himself available outside of class if anyone needed extra help.
asked if we needed help as a class at beginning of each class as well as asked individually during class.
He showed concerns for his students by having to talk to them either during class, before class or after class to make sure they are passing and on the right schedule. He would also tell you about the grades and talk to you about it to make you pass the course.
emailed them if they were behind track and about attendance.
Evan always emailed students once to twice a week for encouragement and met with his students regularly to discuss their progress.
He helps us and does examples on the board for us
He emails students periodically if they need any help and also updates us on what needs to be finished before the end of the week.
He always offered help and asked students if they needed specific help every beginning and end of class. He definitely showed concern and offered guidance.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I definitely would... a nice thing about the self-paced environment and the open computer lab was that there was always a teacher or tutor around to help with any questions and they were all happy to do so! So, really, I would recommend other students to take any class from any teacher that takes place in that classroom.
definitely!
yes
Yes
This is an online class so if the student knows how to learn on there own than yes if not no because IT IS AN ONLINE CLASS.
I would reccommend Evan to other students because he is easy to understand when explaining the different chapters on the problems, and he is easy to approach to when you have questions or concerns.
yes because he keeps asking you if you need help with assignments even if you don't want it.
Yes, Even is honestly the best and most understanding math instructor I've ever had.
I would absolutely recommend Mr. Yoshimura as he is a very detailed, well organized and well spoken individual
I would because its an online course but having a teacher who knows what he's doing is definitely beneficial!
Yes, he is an easy going teacher that knows his stuff.
Yes, and no. Obviously it states that the class is self-paced. However, I did not fully understand what self-paced was until two weeks into the course when it was already too late to drop or change classes. I believe that I have done well with the class overall, however, it depends on what the student is looking for in terms of self-paced or lecture-based and that should fully be emphasized to the students in elaborate form.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
n/a
Overall his good teacher!
He is a nice professor and he is very easy to understand.
nothing
Even is a great educator and really helps his students.
I would like to say keep up the good work
Great teacher!
Great teacher!
He is very kind and helpful in every way. Just please don't watch the students like hawks. Just makes the students feel judged if their doing a math problem wrong, or anxious which definitely effects students concentration.
18. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I really enjoy the self-paced courses, they work for me.
the whole course was very valuable, especially when you havent been in school for years, it helps you to remember all the things you learned through high school
online teaching, quizing at home
none
when he helped me with a hard module
Everything.
All of it! Also you learn that procrastination is not a good thing!
The fact that it was self-paced was easy enough, and the constant reminder on how well you're doing is great.
The online resource of doing homework and quizzes online. However, I strongly believe that the module tests should also be available at the students home or own convenience. If it is an online and self-paced class taking the module tests should be available to be taken at home as well. It will save the students time to make a trip to the school. And would make it easier for the students to finish faster.
19. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
n/a
the 75,85,95 in order to move along made things take much longer then they needed to be along with the amount of questions on homework.
The way the grading is on the test where you need to get a certain percent inorder to pass to move on onto the next chapter.
doing everything online was difficult because you don't know what you did wrong.
The attendance.
Nothing
nothing!
Nothing really. It was just any normal self-paced math class.
20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
n/a
He teaches great!
none, he is doing everything the best he can.
By continuing to be the great instructor he already is.
I think he's better than math 24 and should be instructing higher math courses.
Nothing!
Like I said, great teacher nothing really needs to be changed.
Module tests should be taken at home especially if students are constantly being watched during the process. It just makes me feel judged and gives negative anxiety. I rather have the freedom of taking a module test at the piece of my own time and home.
21. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
very good!
He is an awesome professor, he always helps for every little question, he always checks on us to see how wee doing n the class and makes sure we understand what were doing.
offered a lot of his time to the students
He is a good teacher because he knows what level everyone is at. He informs students how to fix problems and what is to come in the future.
Good
Evan is a good teacher to make you understand the topic and to also make you understand how to make you succeed in the course.
one of the best math teachers I've had in a while
Excellent/exceeds.
great
He is a great teacher, he sends us emails to check up on us and he also has little meetings with us to see how we are doing in progress!
Great teacher! Cares about his students.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He knows his subject very well and is very helpful.
Mr. Yoshimura is very knowledgeable in math. He has a unique way of simplifying things when he explains a problem to you. He sometimes uses metaphors to help students remember rules, procedures or formulas that are very useful. He makes you feel like there is no such thing as a "dumb question". He will answer any question that you have.
patient and easy to talk to. great explanations of course material and very encouraging.
His greatest strengths are that he actually cares about what he is doing. He seems to enjoy teaching math while maintaining a genuine concern for the students. He continuously walks around checking on each student and assists them when they look confused. Many times while I am doing an assignment, I am doing it correctly, just the longer way. He will ask me if I want him to show me an easier way to do it with the same results. This has been very helpful for me to catch up, as I had fallen behind the recommended schedule. He was a great teacher and I enjoyed his class.
He always asks if anyone wants him to explain anything to better understand how to do the math problems or if we have questions.
He's great at explaining things, he always knows how to answer your question.
Knows the material he is teaching. Very helpful
-knows his subject -explains everything in a manner that is easy to understand -always willing to help
Evan's major strengths are his techniques. I believe if this was a lecture course instead of a self paced course, more of his students will succeed in finishing all their modules. His teaching skills and techniques are different from the guide that Mymathlab comes with. It makes more sense, and it is less of a hassle to do it Evan's way.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
I cannot think of any.
I have no recommendations for his class or how he runs it. He is very fair and unbiased. His class runs very smoothly.
None
Nothing, The process you already have works. You already have that option of setting due dates to keep students on track but maybe implementing that system without an option of choosing it would help more students pass and get finished earlier.
none.
The only reason Evan didn't receive "strongly agree" in all categories is because, the way the class is designed, he wasn't able to excel in every category. Otherwise, I feel like he runs a smooth class.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He shows great concerns for his students especially fir the ones that need extra help.
Mr. Yoshimura offered help to us every single day. He extended his help to our class and took the time to explain procedures and answer questions until we understood. If you need extra help you can make an appointment with Mr. Yoshimura outside of class hours to get the help you need. Mr. Yoshimura is also available during the math lab hours.
By continuously walking around and checking on each student. When he does portfolio checks, he lets us know where we are at, how much time is left, and gives us an idea of how to catch up.
He always offers help for those who need it even when not in class.
He made sure we all understood the material before moving onto the next section/module. He helped students whenever they asked.
He would email us weekly pushing us forward to finish our module
Always asked the students beginning of class if needed help.
He would check up with students if they weren't in class for a week just to make sure that everything is fine.
Before every class, Evan asks his students; "Is there anything anybody needs help on, or I can go over?" if no one replies he lets his students work independently. He is also very open to questions that arises during independent work. Also, he is very good at emailing any changes or updates that happen to come up. During the semester, I got emails telling me to catch up, I'm almost done, and the changes in lab hours.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes, hes a good teacher
Yes I would recommend this class to students because I learned a lot in this class. This was my first "self-paced" class and it taught me how to be more disciplined in my work. I also needed to be consistent so that I would not fall behind. Mr. Yoshimura encourages his students everyday and he makes you want to work and study hard.
yes he is very straight foward and tries best to answer questions
Absolutely. He is a great teacher who knows what he is talking about and loves what he does.
Yes becaause he explains the math to make it easier for you to do.
Yes, because he knew the material very well and showed a lot of concern for the students, and took attendance every day. He made sure you understood the material since it is a self- paced course. He was open to all questions and even demonstrated some difficult problems to understand on the board.
Yes, even though it is a self paced class it is very helpful.
Yes, even though it was a self paced class, Mr. Yoshimura was a great instructor. He was always willing to help if you needed it and he explained the material in a manner that was easy to follow and understand.
I would recommend him to other students, because he is very good at molding himself to how the students work. I, myself, like to work alone and in silence. However, I noticed that other students like to work more with a teacher. Whenever I asked for help, it was very quick and straight to the point. I noticed with other students though, he is more attentive and he checks on those students quite often (because they like that). He feels out a students' personality and works with him based on that.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Thank you for making my first semester of college a good experience.
Great teacher!
thank you for your help.
Great instructor. Would take more classes from him.
He tries to be funny, but he really is not.
18. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I believe that all aspects of this course were valuable.
The parts when students would ask for lecture about certain problems and he would demonstrate on the board. His lectures were very clear and concise.
being self paced.
to keep up with your work.
19. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
I cannot think of any.
Nothing was invaluable in this class.
having such flexiblilty.
n/a
The graphing was the least valuable.
20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I would like to see Mr. Yoshimura record his lectures and use them for the video pods in the chapter module lessons.
By continuing what he is doing.
None I think he doing a good job.
only suggestion is maybe having set due dates.
none.
It would be awesome if there were more days for each class. Two days a week at 50 minutes each is not enough to teach math.
21. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Mr. Yoshimura is a very good teacher. He knows his material and encourages his students to want to learn.
Phenomenal teacher, Great person.
He explains the math to where you can understand it. He is around the class even when he doesn't have a class and is there to help.
He is an awesome teacher who knows the material and I definitely would take his class again.
Great teacher
great instructor, would take more classes from him.
My overall reaction, is that Evan knows what he is doing and he enjoys it. That is all I can really ask for in a math teacher.
22. Other comments:
Thanks again, I have been around several of the other teachers and he was my favorite of them all.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
supportive at whatever stage you are at
He's helpful in teaching math.
As a teacher he knows what he needs to do for his students. For example he let the students work on their lessons and he doesn't need to lecture because that will take up the time for us the students to finish the homeworks and quiz. In the beginning of our class he would just ask if anybody have a problem that he/she would like to go over it together in class, but most of us knows what we are doing. If we need help we just ask him and he would guide us through the problem but not giving us the answer. As a teacher he push his students to work according to the schedule and he understand the students situation. He is very easy to talk to and very helpful. He provide a good environment for students to study.
hes a fair teacher
Prompt at trying to get all students to keep up with the modules and also keeps students updated with any changes in lab hours. He is good at what he does and cares a lot about the students. He helps students to make a plan to finish the course on time.
He knows his stuff and he would help you understand all the sections and show you different ways to solve the problems.
He really knows his subject (math) well. He is good at explaining things to students.
He helps through out the whole semester and does a great job explaining things out when the text book or videos are hard to understand.
He is very good at helping me to understand math and breaking things down. I would catch on the fastest after he teaches me oppose to other tutors.
Evan Yoshimura's major strength as a teacher is that he really pushes his students especially the ones who took courses with him before. Because he knows that we can do it.
Yes, he knew whatever about Math.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
nothing
None.
none
Try to remember to get back to students after helping another one.
Hes a great teacher.keep it up, no suggestions.
He is a good teacher , he can just keep on what hes doing .
No changes I would suggest.
No, I don't have any suggestion to him. He was a good teacher.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
always checked up to make shore we didn't fall behind
Asked what happens when a student doesn't show up for class one day.
Evan Yoshimura show concern for the students by sending email to the students if he see that they are falling behind. I always get email from him telling me to try and work more on the modules because I am a little behind the schedule. His email made me really try my best to work on the modules even though I have little time to work on them. Evan show concern for his students by giving us partial credit on the test only if we understand the problem but if not he would let us take it again to make sure we understand it.
he helps them when he think they dont understand something and he show his concern when student do not attend the class.
He always sent out emails if we were falling behind. He also reminded us if we had any questions or concerns, he was always available.
In every class he would always make sure and check to see if we had any questions or concerns in every class. He would send emails every week if we were behind and encouraged us to catch up.
He is always willing to give partial credit to boost a students grade if they deserved it. He always emailed his students so they knew if they were on track in the class or not. He is very available for his students if they ask him to be.
He always sent out emails providing help.
He constantly sends out emails and updates and is always there to help.
Evan Yoshimura is also very understanding and also compassionate towards his students. For the reason that I missed a few classes over family issues and he understood completely.
In my case, when I was stuck, he encouraged me by mail. That was effective to me. that motivated me.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, very clear when explaining math problems
Yes, he is easy going and easy to learn from.
I would definitely recommend him to all other students who are taking math. He is very understandable and easy to talk to very helpful to the students. He knows what he is doing as a teacher. He doesn't lecture only when the students have question he then give help on the problem but he share it with the class. In the beginning he announced or give the agenda for the day or the week and after he would just let us do the math problems.
yes because he knows the course well
Yes, he is always there for the students and always encourages us to ask questions.
Yes because he is there to help you get through the whole course. And he is a great teacher.
Yes because he knows his subject well and can explain it so students can understand it. He always checks students tests to give them the most possible points they can get.
Yes, I would because his teaching is great!
I would recommend him because he explains math very well and makes it easier for people like me to understand.
Yes i would recommend Evan Yoshimura to students because he is a teacher that knows his subject very well, always asks his students if we need help and will always be available for out of class tutoring if needed.
Yes, I do.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
?
Evan, is mainly there if you need help.
I like to say that doing the portfolio check was really helpful. He made me organized my works. Evan is a really great professor I would take his class again if I have to.
none
Seems to be passionate about what he does.
Nothing
He is a good teacher and i hope to have his class again.
Nothing else.
Thank you, Evan! I was happy that you were my teacher.
18. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Self paced
my math lab.
The portfolio check and sending email to just keep encouraging the students to do or try work on the assignments.
just learning math on your own I guess showing you understand the problem by taking the quizzes and the test.
Having examples for each question, it helped a lot when I did my homework at home.
The whole course was valuable because without it you would be able to get to the next class.
The mymathlab "help me solve this" and "see an example" because it helped me to complete my homework and learn the material better. Also how the homework is online because then I could see what I got wrong immediately and I could correct my answers and learn how to do it the correct way.
being able to get ahead in the class on my own time.
The aspect of the course that was the most valuable was quizzes needing to pass with an 85% and/or better. Because it really shows when you do good on the quizzes, you will most likely do well on the test.
I just felt hard sometimes, studying on the web was first experience to me. However, for me. It was sometimes hard to get the meaning of questions. After I completed, I could learn many math words' meaning.
19. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

The log sheet.

The text book.
Taking a quiz after every single section because it was time consuming and a repeat of the homework we just did.
maybe the crowded labs at times.

21. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
very good
excellent.
My overall evaluation for Evan I give him 10 out of 10. The best teacher I have in Math. Out of all the math teacher I tried taking their classes he is the best teacher and I love to take his class if he teaches other class than math.
I think he did well because he was very helpful to the student and showed his concern to everyone. overall he was a good teacher.
8/10
He is a great teacher that is willing to help you get through the course as liong as you are willing to try help yourself and put in the effort to complete the work.
He is really good and knows his subject well.
He is a very good teacher of math.
My overall evaluation of Evan Yoshimura is a positive one.
He was good teacher, although it was not so easy,,I passed because of him.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Without question Evan is a highly intelligent man. He is an excellent teacher and a supportive one at that. (1) He is capable of multi tasking but chooses not to when teaching and/or working with individual students so he can give them his undivided attention. (2) He knows the subject backwards and forwards. (3) When I have had difficult challenges due to my physical and/or emotional disabilities he has always been considerate of that fact. (4) He has not pushed me when he knows I just can't do any more than I am doing.
He was always there in class and even during the lab hours so whenever you needed help he could be there to answer any questions relating to your quizes to see if you could go on to the next section. Very helpful!
Evan explains problems in an understandable way
He can give students partial credit on the module tests when they almost made the passing grade of 75%.
His major strengths are being organized, always grading tests on time so we would receive our test results next class, he always explains problems well so we could understand them better, he grades tests very fairly and shows concern for his students.
Professor Yoshimura knew his material really well and when the students had a question, he would direct the answer to the students in a way that would make the question seem easier to answer.
Evan's has a lot of strengths as a teacher. He has shown overwhelming care and concern for his students. He has helped me succeed and to strive to understand the difficult material i came across with.
He knows how to explain the problems well to help me understand what I'm doing wrong. He gets straight to the point instead of lecturing all of it.
He's super helpful.
He knows the material and is easily accessible for help throughout class time.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I would have him come in on a few afternoons and NOT just in the mornings. I say that due to the fact that he is gone in the afternoons and on Fridays and Sat when tests can be and are taken. those are times that partial credit would and does come in handy. without it a student can not move on and will then waste an entire weekend waiting for that partial credit.
Some lecture with some examples on the board.
Offering summer classes to students who cannot finish the class by the the last day of instruction.
N/A
No new changes is needed to a great teacher (:
N/A.
none
No changes.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He has always gone out of his way to make allowances for people that may have any personal a or physical problems.
He emailed us weekly to let us know the schedule of the following week and provided us with reminders which i've never had a teacher do that before and i really appreciate that.
Evan is always available to review and help with difficult problems. Reminding students of their progress and where they should be.
He goes around doing portfolio checks with his students.
He would email his students every week to encourage them to catch up on math work if they were behind in class. In class he would always ask us if we wanted him to lecture or go over a certain problem or section.
He showed concern for students by telling the students how they are doing in the class and by giving a set of dates or weeks to show where the students should be by the end of the week.
Evan has emailed me to remind me about deadlines and about catching up of my missing work. This showed me his concern as a teacher.
He always e-mailed us every week to make sure if we needed help, we can always ask him.
yes
He always asked if students needed help prior to the start of class and walked around the room throughout the period.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would. He is strict, but not to the point that a student can not thrive and work around.
Yes, because he encourages you to keep going and trying in class which is great.
Yes He is one of the best instructors I have had for math.
Yes, because his Math 25 class, along with Math 24, are all done on a math website called MyMathLab.
Yes, because being a student that has a weakness in math, he definitely knows what he is teaching.
I would recommend Evan Yoshimura to students because he is a good professor who knows his material well and shows extreme concern and care for his students. He shows concern in which he wants to see his students succeed in and out of math class.
Yes i would recommend Evan because he makes math not as difficult and goes beyond his way to help students succeed.
Yes, he's a dedicated teacher to his course.
yes, because he's always available to help a student out.
Yes, if you don't understand how to solve a problem by the book's method, he'll teach you different ways as to how you can approach the problem.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I really appreciate him and all that he has done to help me.
When I have a problem, I would much prefer to have Evan's help.
He is a great motivator. Every time I don`t pass the module tests, I can ask him or his assistants to help go over the problems I got wrong so I can know how to work it out the next time I take the test.
N/A
Thank you Evan for all your hard work!
N/A.
hes awesome
He grades tests promptly.
18. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I really think the MATH department overall needs to change their rules regarding the tests/ By that I mean when a student takes a test and they have an obvious mistake that is simple and should and would be given a partial credit by their instructor ....the stand in teach and/or proctor on that day should be allowed to override that students test to give them a partial credit so they can use the weekend to continue their studies and not be held back and have to wait until the following week. it would be easy to have each teacher simply write out a list of what they would make allowances for and give partial credit for as well. Then the teacher on duty would merely follow that teachers guidelines and give the student their partial credit so they aren't held back unecessarily.
It has been a long time since I have been in school or had any Math. This course got me started on the right track in Math to enable me to go on to higher Math, I believe it has given me a sound base in order to proceed.
Getting to do the homework modules.
Everything
The fact that the students could go by how fast or slow they wanted to try to finish the course was good.
The way the class was designed.
Learning new strategies from my teacher.
not sure
The homework materialâ?¦ It helped a lot for quizzes and tests.
19. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Most of the lessons were of no real life use. I think the college makes the students take far too much MATH in order to obtain their AS or AA degree. It's ridiculous the amount of time and energy that is needed to devote to just ONE MATH class! Math 24 & 25 is plemty for an AA or AS degree. Especially since I have lived for over 50 years and NEVER needed to know or use ANY of that information at all! It;s a pure waste of time to go beyond that MATH 25...unless you're going to be a scientist or an architect orsomething that requires all those calculations. But most majors don't!!!!
I can't think of any. The whole course was of value to me.
Having to do the module tests again and again until you pass to get to the next module.
N/A
The fact that I have never taken a self pace class before kind of scared me and that the first two weeks of this course I was going at a very slow pace.
Nothing much
Not enough spare time to do the course outside of the classroom.
the fact that its one math hate math lab
Nothing.
20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
s I said earlier either be there on a Friday or Sat or give permission to another teacher that will be there to override certain simple errors and give the student the partial credit they need and deserve to move ON!
Again I can't think of any area that needs improvement.
He can stay after his regular classroom hours and help students with work, if they need it.
N/A
He can improve the teaching of this course by giving a lecture to students rather than offering it to the students and if the students do not want the lecture that is fine.
No improvements is neccessary. The class was self paced.
N/A.
i feel teach a lecture in the beginning of class instead of just asking the class just teach it
No improvements...
21. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
WONDERFUL!
I feel very fortunate to be in his class. and hope he will be my instructor as I proceed up the Math ladder at KCC.
89 percent.
He is an amazing teacher.
that he is a good professor who shows very kind concerning effort for his students.
He is a very great teacher!
he is a great teacher and i would recommend any of my friends to him.
hes good just needs to teach those lectures
He is an easily-accessible teacher and teaches well.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is very fair and understands where I am weak and where I am strong in math. He helped me find a balance and his strength is honestly being himself. He is an amazing teacher, who cares about his students and him with his enthusiasm in class makes going worth while.
Gets along every well with his students
A genius never seen someone explain math with such ease so anyone can understand it.
Informing you your grades and your wellness WEEKLY. Weekly check ups are awesome. It is personal(academically), and he is pretty much reaching out to you. And strongly concerns for his children, there is no professor, by far, as caring as he is. One thing about him, is he makes math actually funner than it already is. He is fun, and get's the students to understand concepts if they don't understand how to do it in the book's version.
communication teaching
Very nice and helpful
helped me when i needed help and he always asked if we had any questions.
Evan Yoshimuraʻs major strength as a teacher is always having great communication skills with his students.
He made sure that everyone was on the right path to finishing the course. If he knew that a student was falling behind, he made sure that they don't by meeting with them or emailing them. He also did binder checks every other week which I think was helpful because that way he could tell how each student was doing and how they feel about each module. If a student needed help in anything during class or even outside of class, he was there to help in no time.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Maybe go over work before class on specific things that he thinks is difficult whether people are in that module or not.
wish he could teach math 25 lecture
No changes at all.
nothing(:
none he is cool
No changes.
N/A
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
If he saw something was going down he made the effort to look over things with me.
He would send e-mails regarding our pace in the course
I pretty much mentioned that in number 13.
asked if we had any questions, and if we did, he answered them.
Goes around and helps us when needed. occasional conferences and check ups
always was there to help us when we needed it
Evan Yoshimura showed concern for his students by express his feelings and communicating whether it was letting us know that we were behind on a module lesson or extra help with a particular problem.
He showed concerns for students by asking at the beginning of class if anyone has any questions about the module they're in. He also sends out emails to students reminding of things and telling them if they needed help on something, see him in class, or through emails and ect.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I recommend him and I actually have to my friend for next semester, because he grades fairly and is very good at explaining where I understand the concept.
Yes I would, very easy instructor to work with
Yes, he is caring, motivating, and helpful. There's never just one way he could teach you a concept. Great math teacher, and is open to ask for help. He really pushes the students, but not in a discouraging way.
yes, because he's a great teacher and actually helps students if they need it.
I would, was a good class.
yes i would. why you may ask? he is awesome
Yes, I would. Evan Yoshimura is great, he really pushes his students to do the best and finish the math course.
I would recommend him because he is very understanding, he cares about his students and he's there to help whenever he can.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is a wonderful teacher.
He is very helpful and genuine. He is friendly and nice to speak to, with sincerity.
he actually wants to help his students and continually checks how they are doing and their progress throughout the course.
he is a cool guy
Nothing.
N/A
18. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
When the tutors walked around and helped out.
I liked that it was a self pace course because there were some sections I needed to spend more time on
It was self-paced, but motivating with the caring professor and tutor. I like that they encourage you to get ahead and come in for extra help. Although it may seem tedious, it helps a lot in the long run. Math labs were awesome. The best Mathematics department ever has to be at KCC. I am not sure if I could try another College math.
the independence, it was nice to try and teach myself, but if i didnt get the subject, then the teacher was there to help me understand it.
the teacher and assistant are always available.
actually learned math
Everything about the course was the most valuable and helpful.
I found that buying the actual book was easier because you're not just looking on the screen for a long time. There's the book online but its harder to understand if you down have a physical copy in front of you to write on or to even jot down notes. Also having to review your quiz and test after you've done it was helpful. It made me know what types of problems I need to work n a little bit more. Lastly was the portfolio. I thought the portfolio was helpful because i could look back to my previous works when I was about to tack my final exam. Also each module/section helped with other module/sections.
19. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
Nothing
Nothing.
module 9...
nothing much.
none all was good
Nothing.
I didn't find anything least valuable or helpful about the course because everything I could get out of math was really helpful and help me understand what i was learning.
20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Keep doing what hes doing. Maybe walk around and visit each individual.
Nothing.
nothing, just keep doing what he's doing.
I'm not sure, he does a lot already.
his class is top noch
Explain questions that students ask him with more understanding.
Well since this class is online, I don't think there is anything he needs to improve on.
21. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He always knew how to help me with what I didn't understand.
His mindset isn't only one way.
his willingness to help his students, and his concern about how his students are excelling.
He explains it clearly and makes sure you understand.
i was never scared to ask him any qustions
What I found the most valuable and helpful about Evan Yoshimura is that heʻs very open to not only help us with questions that we have but also extra help when or if we (his students) needed it.
What I found helpful about Evan is that he would give a worksheet to a student about a particular module if the student asks. That worksheet he would give is example problems of a particular module to help us better understand that section.
22. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
He is an amazing teacher.
"TAKE HIS CLASS!" Although, I have been in the math labs long enough to know that the other professors are just as caring and friendly. I think as long as your taking math at Kcc, you have no problem with Math. Evan Yoshimura, such an encourager.
He's a great teacher that genuinely cares about his students' out come in class.
Great.
he is awesome and a great teacher
Evan Yoshimura is a great and talented teacher. He pushes his students to do the best of their abilities, always communicates his concerns when he was worried and is always open to studentsÊ» questions.
He is an awesome math teacher. I think he does his work of teach and helping the students well. I would definitely take him again if I could.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He knows his subject and can teach it in an easy to understand method when we need it.
He was very good at getting grades back to student in a timely manner.
He explains problems very well.
He didn't hound you, he left you to o your work when you didn't need his help.
He always walk around class and take care us.Also he is kind.
Very helpful, even though it was a self paced class he always went out his way to make sure everyone was on time and understood the material
He always offers support in and out of class and is responsive to all emails. Easily accessible and knows his subject very well. Offers a open, free and learner friendly environment.
He's approachable and always ask student if we have questions regarding math.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None.
To make himself more approachable.
Mr Yoshimura is a very nice teacher. He is also have a clear way to help his students. Not think change.
nothing.
None
Play some music
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He checked up on students to make sure that they understood how much they needed to do to pass the class on time.
He sent out emails to let us know if there was something we needed to do but the emails were very monotone. Nothing ever seemed personal or that he was REALLY concerned.
His is a conscientious teacher. He always e-mail to his students. He is also help students when their facing problems with their homework.
He has one on one time and checks our portfolios to see where were at in the course and asks us questions if we need any help.
He let you know every week through email if you were behind.
He try to make conversation with student.
Portfolio checks, weekly emails telling you if your behind on what you can do to get back on track
Yes he individually conducted meetings with students to offer support in anyway.
He always keeps us posted, he also, gave us the time to finish our modules.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes because if you're determined to finish he will help you get there.
If a student likes doing things on their own then yes I would recommend but if the student likes to have any connection with their teacher then no I would not.
yes, I'll recommend Evan Yoshimura to students because he is the second time to be my Math teacher. He is a responsible and attentive teacher.
I would because you can work at your own pace but at the same time keep up with the modules and if you needed any help, you could contact him.
Yes because he is easy to ask some questions which is really important point to take class.
Yes, very much I am kinda bummed that I can't have him as a professor next semester
Yes, he knows his subject, offers a learner friendly environment, is easily accessible in and out of class and is concerned over the students well being.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
A capable teacher.
Evan is not a Bad teacher its all bout preference. I actually enjoyed doing things on my own and learning for myself. At times though it was hard for me to ask for help because I felt like it would turn more in a lecture of what I need to do to finish the class rather than the help I was looking for.
Great professor
Very cool dude
Mr. E, I know I didn't approach you a lot but I am thankful that you care for us your student.
18. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
The MyLab program was easy to understand and presented information better than all the teachers I had in Middle School.
You were able to work at your own pace so it was less stressful.
His help.
The constant emails every week telling you where you are at in the course.
we can send a email to teacher and its really helpful.
Before I had a deep weakness for math, but my skills have 100 percent sharpened since this course
the structure, organization and support system offered by the instructors
19. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
It was frustrating that tests could only be taken in class but I understand the reasons for it.
I felt like the portfolio checks he does in his class is a waste of time.
I had trouble learning from the power points that were provided with the course. I would rather have someone to teach it to me instead of having to learn it by myself.
I wish it was more like a class, but it was a self paced class so can't do much about that
Nothing
Nothing.
20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
For a self paced course I believe he is doing all he needs to teach this course properly.
Instead of telling his students what they need to do - find what works for them and come up with a plan together.
Not much
Smart Board
21. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Constant check ups so that I was aware of how much time I would need to keep up wit the course.
Evan was very knowledgeable on the things that he was teaching.
He often send a email to us and its helpful to know informations.
That he actually cared if you passed the course or not
Yes, he knows his subject, offers a learner friendly environment, is easily accessible in and out of class and is concerned over the students well being.
He is approachable and has a friendly attitude towards his students.
22. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
A good and fair teacher that helps his students achieve their goals inhis class.
He is a good teacher just very impersonal.
he's a good professor.
He's a good teacher!
good teacher I'd like to take his class again.
9/10
Yes, he knows his subject, offers a learner friendly environment, is easily accessible in and out of class and is concerned over the students well being a very well grounded instructor who does what he can for his students in a professional manor.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is a very smart guy and he knows math really well. He shows a lot of concern towards the students. His class is well organized too
Is a good teacher, but the Pearson's online system needs to improve.
Clear thinking, welcoming, fair to all students, can actually laugh, and it very chill.
well rounded concrete professor. I recommend him for any student taking math 24
He knows very well the subject course. Whenever I ask questions, he can answer it very clearly and makes it easier to understand.
Mr. Yoshimura has a great personality. He made the class as well myself feel comfortable about the subject. Although this was a self pace course, he made sure before class started that all questions, if any were answered. Mr. Yoshimura was always willing to help and assisted whenever needed and always encouraged to continue doing well.
The format of the class allowed me to do the work on my own but whenever I needed help outside of the internet-formatted class modules, Evan was always there to answer any questions I had, so I would say, his major strengths was his willingness to to answer any question the students might have on the course work and taking it further as to demonstrate an answer to a question one student might have for all the class to see should a student be too afraid or shy to step forward.
N/a
He's a great teacher who will always be willing to help. He emails us every week about updates, and where we stand in the course.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I suggest he stops being such a douche sometimes. I mean when I ask for help its because I don't know how to do something. Like I regret asking. I feel like he could have been more encouraging. Not the most approachable guy sometimes.
None.
Just keep doing what you're doing.
None very good professor
None
A small change Evan should take in the classroom is that while some students in the computer lab like to listen to music with their earphones in, they will sometimes miss an announcement so maybe he should have those particular students take them off just so they can't criticize his communication skills. I am sometimes one of them while it is the students' responsibility to succeed in school, I think the students would appreciate it.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He was very concerned for the students, even emailing us when we are behind. He ll be very straight up with his advice in telling you what you need to do.
At the end of class he would mention how long he will stay and offer to help. Ever week he would send out an email letting students know if there behind or caught up.
By assisting them manually or by email, saying how a student needs to catch up for the deadline.
very hands on and gave massive amounts of individual help
He always asks if we do have any questions and concerns before we start or end the class
Always asking if anyone had questions, periodically would check throughout the class if anyone needed specific help on a problem. Constantly encouraged the students to keep up with the schedule, therefore they would have more time to prepare for the final.
The format of the class gives small room for teacher-student interaction but Evan is always forthcoming in that the students ask him for help with any difficulties. And always communicates any changes in the school lab hours.
He always does portfolio checks to make sure we're on the right track. If we're slacking he'll give us some tips on how to keep doing the work and not slack.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yeah actually I would recommend him. He is a good teacher if you show you want to learn and excel in his class. I feel like he is one of the better teachers out of all the math 24 group.
Yes, But only if you prefer a self paced class.
Yes, Evan was a very chill teacher.
Yes very good well rounded professor
Yes. because I like the way he teach. And he's cool!
Yes, if a self paced course is something towards a students liking I would recommend it. For myself personally having a full-time job and family this course proved to be beneficial. Although, minimal attention was needed from me, Mr. Yoshimura would still recognize when I was having difficulty on a certain chapter and would approach me before I approached him.
Yes. Evan is approachable and is always ready to answer any question a student might have as well being available outside the schedule class times.
Yes I would because he's a great professor who knows his material and shows concern for his students. Even if it's a self-pace class, he's always willing to help.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
nothing else
- - - -
nothing
Great teacher, easy going but still would be stern when necessary.
He's very mellow but that should make students more comfortable to ask for help even if they might be shy about asking.
18. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I found that it can be hallenging but if you put your mind to it, you can do it.
I find it really helpful that because this class is self paced, if I was sick I wouldn't have to worry about missing a class.
I was not entirely good at math, but I finaly understand a LOT of it.
I think, the most helpful about this course is being able to solve math problems by myself and at the same time, learning by myself.
How it was structured, in order to proceed to the next chapter a certain list of requirements was needed. And of course it was according to your own pace. Which meant that certain chapters could be completed faster there in turn the more difficult ones per each individual could spend more time on.
Although it's a known fact that math is universal. I like that I understand that I can apply math to everyday life especially when it comes to finding the values of variables.
This course was a self-pace class so it helped me get ahead before others.
19. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
Nothing really, math is not my favorite subject.
I won't be taking this MATH 24 class to go to 25 or 100, because I will be taking PHIL 11O next semester.
because it's a self-paced course, I have difficulties when I am doing my works outside the class.
Some problems that was located in the homework assignments wasn't always necessarily covered in the power point summary.
20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Nothing except what I said before.
None
Although the completion time of the course is based on the individual, every week a module is expected to be worked and/or completed. One small improvement is that maybe Evan could demonstrate a problem of a module in the beginning of the assigned week but that's just my opinion-his class seems effective enough.
He's a really good professor. I think what he's doing already is really helpful.
21. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
I found that when you showed that you want to do well in his class he would be there for you.
Have modules lock out at the end of every month so students have a bit more motivation to be ahead. Its hard to pace when everything is due at the end of the semester and if a student lost there syllabus.
He is very helpful, and knows his subject very very well.
He knows very well the subject course. Whenever I ask questions, he can answer it very clearly and makes it easier to understand.
Knowing where students were having difficulties
He cares enough to send emails to students that are falling behind and communicate his availability to help-this has helped me especially because of my busy work schedule.
His concern towards his students.
22. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
He is a good teacher overall but sometimes he can be a douche.
A great teacher, who is young and understands students; simply because he was one. Hes a great person, and he always means well. Always be there for the students, Evan.
90/100
Great!!
that Evan Yoshimura knows his teaching material well and his concern and availability for his students helps them to succeed in the course should they open up to him.
Great professor, if he was teaching Math 100 I'd take his class, but he's not. He knows his material VERY WELL!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Mr. Evan always supported and encouraged students to study. He explained clearly and well when students got unclear points, and he made the environment students can ask a question easily.
Able to explain well when asked for help
helping to explain the concept of how to solve a math problem if we dont understand what is being said online
Evan is always available in the math lab to answer any students questions. He knows the material well and is a good teacher.
Evan knew what he was talking about and he was very descriptive when explaining the material we are learning.
He would keep up with students status through emails and in person also. He is great at math and explaining some problems!
Evan knows the subject well and shows concern to every student and treats us fairly.
he help people lot with work
He understands the demands of a student.
He is always checking in with every student to ensure they are clear on lessons and emails when he thinks you may need help.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I think he should not change anything.
Nothing, enjoyed the class
Math 25, Module 8.1 should be a separate module.
None
None.
The whole point of the self-paced class is receiving partial credit and being able to move forward on modules efficiently. However, Evan was busy teaching other classes through out the day on Tuesdays and Thursdays which makes him no time to check for partial credit(especially when he is doing portfolio checks). It is a efficient way of learning by trying the quizzes and tests (as in practice makes perfect) until passing but I would like to consider Evan to reschedule his classes so he can spend time more with his future students.
Maybe teach the lesson every week before sending us off to do it our own. I think some students were nervous to ask questions so they silently struggled. Maybe if he went briefly over the lesson or chapter at the beginning of each week, his students would have an easier time staying on task.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Asked if help was needed daily, reminds of upcoming major events, regular progress checks
He made the class aware at the beginning of class if we had any questions feel free to ask
Evan always asks students if they have anything they need help with. He also reminds students that he is available to answer questions at any time. Evan always lets the class know his hours of availability in the math lab, and he informs the class of any pertinent announcements.
Evan kept sending emails to inform us on what chapter we should be on and to see if we were behind or not. Also in every class Evan always asked his students if they had any questions or if they needed any help just ask him.
He emailed the students who were falling behind
He would try reaching out to students in class and through emails.
Evan sent us an e-mail every week about our progress. It was a good guild line on how to proceed through out the course.
help
He always showed concerned and gave everyone individual attention which I thought was really nice. He was always quick with his email replies and always did all he could to help us understand.
He emailed updates weekly and always made sure you were up to date on assignments. He offered help when he thought you might be struggling.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I want to recommend Mr. Evan to others because he has high motivation to teach students. All of students will feel his high motivation and be motivated by him.
Yes, allows to work at own pace. Gives no pressure and allows students to take initiative for labs, tests etc..
Yes, because he's very informative
Evan is a good, patient, and effective math teacher.
If people like self paced classes then yes I would recommend him.
Yes.
It is a self paced class so it depends on the student's motivation but instructor wise, he is good because he knows the subject well and teaches the subject efficiently.
Yes, he's extremely nice and is flexible.
Yes, because I feel I'm successful in his class.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I could learn many things from Mr. Evan, and enjoy his class, so I want to say thank you to him.
Good job teacher!
Thank you for being lenient.
he is a good instructor.
Nothing.
18. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I could improve my knowledge about math through this course.
Its self paced and you dont have to worry about whether or not your on the same chapter as someone else and you can go ahead in chapters if you want to without worrying if your classmates are ready to move forward
One step closer to graduating.
Since it was a self paced course, it made me more independent.
Nothing.
The online homework and quizzes.
Self pace with instructor at hand.
19. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
I hate math.
Since it was a self paced course, I do not see why we should attend class, other than taking the module tests.
That its harder when its a self passed course.
Nothing.
Having to teach yourself.
20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
He alway cared of students' work. He sent messages about my working in every weekend. When I could catch up the class schedule, he said "good job and keep going". In contrast, when I was behind of the class schedule, he always encouraged me to catch up. His concerns of my schedule and work led me to study more.
He's doing a great job already. Carry on!
Evan only teaches if you ask him for help.
Its good as it is.
Rescheduling his class.
Become a little more active.
21. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
He really created comfortable environment for his students. Students could ask a question easily, and he took a long time until students could understand and solve their unclear points. It was very valuable point Mr. Evan had.
He was able to give us individual attention if we needed it to solve math problems
Evan knows how to teach math and he is always available to help answer the students questions.
Evan is great when it comes to one-on-one teaching.
He was always around through out the day to help me when i was stuck.
Nothing.
He's extremely caring for his students.
Approachable and always available for help.
22. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
He was a good teacher. He always had high motivation for teaching and strong desire to support students for their learning. He had many valuable teaching skills all teachers should have, so I want to say thank you for him.
Very informative teacher
Evan is awesome!
He is a good instructor. Always concerned if students where falling behind. He tries to get the class motivated

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
he explains math problems really well
He knew the material.
Evan Yoshimura's major strengths as a teacher are explaining how to do a math problem when all other options in the online math lab don't help that student and keeping us up-to-date with our grades and our progress.
Understands that each student may learn at different way. some by the book and others not.
Mr.Yoshimura makes sure that he sends us and email each week and lets us know where we stand with each module and if we are behind and what not. He also grades the tests promptly and at the beginning of each class he asks students if we have any questions and if so he will explain it thoroughly and effectively. He also gives us the chance to get help outside of the classroom and is willing to help at all times.
He tries to explain math problems as best as he can so you can understand it.
He understood that the students were trying their best, as long as they were trying, and didn't assume that we weren't trying.
Explaining problems you don/t know how to do and you would understand what he is trying to say. He lets you know if you're behind or on time.
His best strength is that he is always available to talk to. He listens and gives good advice.
Mr. yoshimura is very knowledgeable in the course. HE makes math easy to understand.
His knowledge of the subject and ability to explain difficult problems to his students.
He is very helpful at all times He is always there whenever you have questions and concerns
He helps the class when people ask for help and he explains them in a way where we all understand.
From my perspective, Evan's Yoshimura's major strengths as a teacher is his knowledge and experience, communication with students, encouraging students in a positive way pushing us to be better, helping us understand and retain the math.
Very lenient and helpful with us when we need the help. Able to explain concepts clearly for you to understand the first time he says it
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
N/A
looking back, i would have liked him to have given us our mymathlab log in code on the first day of instruction rather then on our second day.
none.
None
Because the class is in the public campus computer lab, it does tend to get a little noisy sometimes. Never anything too loud, but some occasional conversations tend to become a bit distracting. All I ask is for him too be a little more aware off some social conversations throughout the classroom.
no changes at all.
would like more on the board examples-lectures.
None
No changes
None at this time.
No changes, I enjoyed the class the way it was. Perfect for students who want to get ahead of their peers.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
by helping us with our math
Telling them during binder checks or via email.
Evan Yoshimura showed concern for his students by taking the time to walk around the classroom seeing if we're stuck on anything or need help, he also showed his concern when he would make portfolio checks due on certain days while asking if we had any questions or help with anything.
reminded us of deadlines
He reminds students how much time we have left to do the modules and also ALWAYS asks us if we need assistance in any area and even if we don't approach him directly, just by looking at the scores for quizes and or how many times we take it he will come to us on his behalf and ask if were having trouble on a certain thing and then give us some advice.
He checks up with you to make sure you're doing your modules.
If you told him you were sick, he didn't force you to bring in a doctors not. He trusted that you were telling the truth and told you to get better.
Email them one by one
He always helped when asked.
he would always encourage students to ask questions if they needed help.
his availability and notices to each student as to where he stood in regard to the schedule.
By offering his time whenever we needed it to ask him anything, he is quick to answer emails and questions in class
He has this day where he checks portfolios. When he checks them, he tells us our grades and shows what we have to do to bring it up. He also emails us every week at where we have to be at which is really helpful.
He shows his concerns by communicating with his students through weekly E-mails, letting us know where we should be at, when he will be checking our portfolio's. At the end of our class he will say, "I will be here for another hour if we are having problems or to discuss our concerns with the class." He makes himself available to us.
He would always announce at the beginning of class where we should be and if we weren't we should start catching up and talk to us when we did portfolio checks on what we need to do to be where we need to be.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes because his teaching is good
Yes, he knows the material and is great at explaining and finding alternative ways to solve problems.
I would recommend Evan Yoshimura to students because although the class that I've been in is a self-paced course, he is still able to help out when a student is stuck on something and puts it up on the board in case anybody else in the class needs help on that module too. Although this class isn't much of a lecture class, Evan Yoshimura is also capable of explaining the math problems well that someone could easily understand it right after.
yes. he has a calm demeanor.
Yes, at the beginning of the course he did explain to us how what to expect and is always willing to help out and he really puts time into helping and teaching the material when needed.
I guess. He's very busy most of the time though.
Yes I would, while he's a good teacher, he's also a nice person. He makes the classroom easy to be in and he isn't very intimidating which makes it easier to ask him questions.
Yes because its a self paced class but he also helps on the guidelines
If you have good work ethics I would. Seeing how the nature of the course allows mostly at your pace work, the class isn't for everyone; however, Mr.Yoshimura really helps move people along the course if given the opportunity to help.
yes i would because he makes math easier to understand.
yes! See above.
Yes, absolutely. He is a great teacher
I would recommend him only if you are a self paced learner. If you are not, then I think it will be a hard class to follow.
I would recommend Evan Yoshimura to other students because he cares and puts forth the effort. His major strengths as a teacher is his knowledge and experience, communication with students, encouraging students in a positive way pushing us to be better, helping us understand and retain the math. He shows his concerns by communicating with his students through weekly E-mails, letting us know where we should be at,(Module), when he will be checking our portfolio's. At the end of our class he will say, "I will be here for another hour if we are having problems or to discuss our concerns with the class." He makes himself available to us.
Yes I would. He's very patient and kind with you and does not put you down in any way and is always there if you need additional help.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
none
N/A
Overall a great math teacher, he gives great advice and takes time to explain work to students. He also is very welcoming when it comes to asking him questions.
None.
He's cool. 9/10 (mark down one point because... well.. you don't interact with him much unless you're asking questions or getting a portfolio check because his class is a self-paced)
One good teaching trait is that he asks if there are any questions publicly about any course in case anybody else is having the same problem.
nothing else
His classes are a pleasure to attend and we are leaning the subject matter.
He definitely makes math easier if you take the time to get help from him. He makes things understandable and he takes the time to make sure you understand.
Yoshimura is a fun teacher, he makes jokes sometimes and he helps a lot when you ask for it. He is a great teacher to have and he makes class really reliable to take.
A very good, fair man.
One of the most patient and kind math teachers yet.
18. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
The independency.
I found everything in the course valuable and helpful because by learning all the information I did in this course, I know that it could help me for the next levels of math that I'll be taking while still in college.
?
It was self paced.
Math.
About the COURSE and not the TEACHER? Uhmm... well.. it was self-paced so I didn't feel rushed I suppose. Less stress, more freedom.
Working at my pace really allowed me to adequately understand the course.
having a teacher near by was always helpful if i had any questions to ask.
Evan's personal attention and help through the semester.
Being self-paced
The course helped me become a self paced learner. I always procrastinated but taking this course helped me get rid of some of my procrastination and become a better learner.
Selfpace.
The fact it's all online and it's a self-paced course. Meaning you could catch up with work when you needed to and if you needed a break, you wouldn't be penalized for not doing the work.
19. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
none
A lot of work in a little time, class wise.
I didn't find anything that wasn't valuable nor helpful in the math course.
?
How fast each course had to be done.
Math... online.
It is self-paced so once I started putting it off or wasn't able to do it at home, it was harder to catch up with other classes slowly piling on work that had official due dates.
I found that time is stressed in this course is stresses and I like how it is online so that you can do your homework outside of class and on the computer
Wishing that the computer program would show a little more fluidity about problem answers; for example, we are unable to use proper fractions for the answers although some modules teached using proper fractions.
nothing
Nothing
That is hard to do things on your own self and that procrastination shouldn't even be preformed in a course like this.
None at this time.

20. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
none
Evan Yoshimura can improve the teaching of this course by having students participate in solving problems that they're stuck on, and have them write it on the board so that the student would know the steps in solving it.
By far i cant think of anything else, he had portfolio checks weekly and also gave us emailed updates as to where we are suppose to be and how long we had left to finish the course.
I'm not sure.
Not too sure since there isn't really much teaching from the teacher involved until you ask him for it.
Nothing. The course is pretty laid out already and he makes himself widely available for any questions.
I think mr. yoshimura is doing just fine.
Nothing/
No change at all
I couldn't tell you. I believe that this course is set up very well as a self-pace course.
n/a
21. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
whenever i do not understand the math problem he would explain it in a way that i could understand
He knew the material.
I found the helpfulness of Evan Yoshimura helpful since he was able to ask all of his students of whether or not we needed help on a math module. If any of his students needed help he would get right to it.
personality.
He doesn't overly help/hover over students. He lets us do our work and will step in when needed.
His sense of humor.
He replies to emails fast, he answers your questions diligently, and he's a nice teacher.
Accesible to questions
He is always to easy to reach. Even out of school you can reach him via email and get a response from him quickly.
He truly takes the time to help each student when needed
I learned how to be a self paced learner quickly and I rarely procrastinate now.
His attitude and knowledge.
Everything. He never hesitated to help you out to get you where you needed to be and always brought you to reality if you were falling behind or slacking.
22. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
he is good in teaching especially in explaining how to solve math problems.
He's a great professor.
Evan Yoshimura is a great teacher who knows his subject of math, well. Evan Yoshimura is also a helpful and considerate teacher who doesn't make learning math a struggle.
great instructor.
Overall he is a great professor and I will recommend him to other students as well.
okay.
Really really awesome person, super cool teacher, would have made math really fun if it was a lecture-style class.
a good one!
He is a top of the line teacher.
I think he's a great math teacher who I wish I could have for every math course
He was a very good teacher knew all the answers to the questions i had when i needed help
He is a great teacher and he helped me a lot in this course.
I have a lot of respect for him. He is a very good teacher that encourages you to your potential plus.
He's a 5 out of 5 stars. Super encouraging, helpful, patient, and laid back all at the same time. As long as you did the work, were on schedule, and had no problems, he would have no problems with you and continue to let you do what you had to do.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He knows his subject very well and his techniques help a lot to understand and solve math problems better.
He knows math really well and understands all the concepts
Very very very helpful always here to assist you in anything. Very personable and friendly.
He knows what he is talking about and he cares about his students
He actually sits down and explains what you did wrong and helps you fix it.
He really knows and loves math. He's good at taking time and explaining things so that you have full understanding of the problem.
He knows the subject well so when he is teaching it is easy to understand. His method is always the easiest way to solve problems.
Evan is a very good at explaining problems.
Evan Yoshimura's strength as a teacher is the clarity of instructions and flexibility of providing help with students. Step by step instructions was very effective and show enthusiasm as a math professor.
He's one of the few math teachers i've had that actually seem to enjoy their job and enjoy teaching. He always has a way of explaining things very well, I'm not good in math so this helps a lot!
Taking the time out to explain a problem that I am struggling on no matter how long it takes.
He is very organized with his class schedule but allows each student to go at a pace that they're comfortable with. He shows concern when he feels that a student may be falling behind in their work and encourages students to attend class. He is clear in his explanations and offers even more help if a student needs it.
As a teacher he is extremely knowledgeable in the subject matter and tries to explain to students that proper steps to solve the math problems as well as the orders of operation. He explains to you that writing your problems side by side will confuse you as the problems get harder and longer to solve. Is very diligent in emailing students to communicate when needed.
Being able to teach the subject to students who's skills aren't towards math and being able to adjust to the different learning styles the students have.
He encourages you to get everything done on time. He's also very helpful when it comes to not understanding certain problems.
They way he describes the way to do the material.
Teach well
Knows subject matter Is an understanding and patient person
Evan Yoshimura has the ability to lecture with clear information and solutions. His willingness to come back down to a level for those that are moving slower than others is without hesitation. He has obvious tremendous strengths in the math trade which stands out when he lectures.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Lab hours as part of the grade
none.
nothing
none
None, if you don't understand something he's more than willing to take time to explain it. If there are a few people that have the same question, he does a mini lecture for the class.

No changes need to be made, very grateful to have Math 24 and Math 25 combined and extremely satisfied with My Math Lab.

The class room is to noisy. I understand this is the best way of teaching. But it can get noisy in that class at times.
none
Maybe to be able to do more undivided tutoring.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
I loved to get emails letting me know how I was doing during the semester. That helped me stay on track and made me feel like I was making progress.
He emailed his students when they would fall behind
He sets goals for them and helps them finish on time.
He would talk to us and have meetings with us weekly and talk about how we are doing in the class. He is also very encouraging.
he would talk to them every class
He took time on an individual basis to go over your portfolio and your progress. He took time one on one to explain any questions you had about the course, materials or problems.
The portfolio checks he did every once in a while. Which really helped me because it made me realize how to move on subjects on so on.
he emails and notifies students and encourages students to push further.
Evan Yoshimura put time in to getting with students one by one on progress in class and strategies to get through the class.
He was always on top of his emails, if someone asked a question he would always reply. He was great about being accessible to everyone in class no matter what lesson they were on, even if he had explained the lesson to someone else just previously! He's very helpful.
He would demonstrate different ways to solve a problem for every student so that he/she would understand the steps and procedures to solve a problem correctly.
He constantly updates each student on how they are performing in class and what is expected of them. He wants the best for his students and wants them to succeed in class.
When he sees a student having a problem he is more than willing to help the student and explain different methods for solving the math problem as not any one student is alike.
By making sure we understand the subjects and going around checking up on each of the students to make sure we're doing okay or if we need any help/clarification.
I guess when he emails every student on what they need to finish and the option to do something when they don't finish on time.
Constantly checked up on students to see if they needed help.
Ask question
emailed student if he was concerned
He takes the time out to figure out what works best for the individual and then supports it.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I would highly recommend Evan since he is a very fair professor and his Math techniques are great.
He knows his math and all the formulas
Yes! Because he is very friendly and helpful!
yes, he is a very good teacher and he is very approachable.
I would, he was a great teacher and really helped me.
Yes, for all the reasons I stated above. He always takes the time to help and answer any questions.
Yes. He makes things easier. I think that is the most important part in Math.
Yes because he's very familiar in his field of study.
I would HIGHLY positively recommend Evan Yoshimura to any math student. I finally passed math 24 after taking it twice with other professors and made it through nice and smooth.
Yes, he explains the material well and knows his stuff. He makes sure you know what you did wrong and will go over any test questions with you one on one.
I would recommend Prof. Yoshimura to other students because he would take the time out of whatever he is doing and help you out.
Yes I would. The class work isn't too difficult but you must push yourself to actually get the work done. He offers help to anyone that asks for it and never makes you feel bad for asking in the first place.
I would definitely recommend him to fellow students to enroll in his class. He is patient and wants his students to succeed and use the tools he has given them in order to do so.
Definitely! I don't consider myself very skilled at math and yet I was able to learn under him.
Yes because he's very helpful with problems you don't understand and he encourages students to finish on time.
Yes because he is a great teacher who explains the material clearly and cares for his students.
Yes. Good class
yes, because he is easy to get along with, and understand.
Absolutely, I truly believe many can learn with clear understandings from him.

He is an awesome instructor.
18. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
His techniques and lectures. He makes every problem sound easy and gives insight to different ways to solve problems.
His skill level of math
That he set goals for me.
He would keep helping you until you understand and he's nice
The fact that he helped me and didn't just say what I did wrong.
His willingness to take time to help on a one on one basis.
His mini lectures. Even it is a "mini" lecture, he made everything easy to understand.
He gives, feedback, very clear instructions, tricks to get through some tough math problems, and he's there for help at anytime during math lab hours and in class. Also give us monitors on our progress to see what strategies and options to be done to get through math 24 nice and smooth.
His eagerness and love for the subject really shows in how he explains things. His tone is a good one for the subject, it's hard to keep concentrated in math if the teacher sounds like a robot for me at least and I didn't have this problem in his class :)
He would give half credit to problems we got wrong but knew what we were doing.
Follow a schedule, stay organized, and always show your work.
Available to his students whether in person or by email
A qualified teacher is a very valuable, especially in a subject that half and half may or may not understand. Being able to teach it to students who aren't gifted with math skills to where they can understand is VERY helpful!
His teaching.
How he constantly checks up on students to see if they need help.
Class is paced well.
His passion and expertise translate well into his classroom making it an enjoyable atmosphere.
He doesn't put unnecessary pressure on me.
19. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
No math labs hours and binder sheck as part of grade

If some one is lagging behind then try and set modules for them if you think they need it.
I think it's great the way it is.
The class meets 2 hours a week. There are 22 self-pacing students and one instructor. Evan is handling it very well but sometimes he's sticking to someone for a long time which makes me hard to answer questions (Because the class period is only one hour).

20. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
He is the best.
He is a good teacher who knows his subject
great teacher doing a good job!
AWESOME
Great and helpful teacher.
I would highly recommend him as a teacher and I would recommend the self paced class to anyone who has enough discipline to stay on task.
If you want to learn Math, he is the instructor to learn from.
Great professor, so far for math because it is my weakest subject, he guided me all the way through math 24.
Grade "A" :) or for his class Credit as oppossed to no credit :)
Great class was easy to understand.
Great instructor and easy to understand
VERY helpful and VERY awesome teacher!!
A great teacher who explains the material clearly and shows concern for his students.

excellent
I would like to be able to have Evan Yoshimura as my teacher for all my math classes to come.
21. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
The fact that I could make progress at home, work at my own pace, and have Evan available to answer my questions or giving us lectures when needed.
n/a math is math
online course move at my own speed!
I don't like math
The fact that it was self paced.
That I can login and work on math anytime. I work full time so to be able to do math at a time that works for me is what I'm looking for.
The Math Lab system. It is easy to understand how well you are doing and setting goals.
My math lab was a pace learning material, and it's very repeatitional. and views examples of the material givin and Evan is there to help with anything.
The self paced aspect, I liked being able to be ahead and take my time in the sections I needed to.
He would always ask if we would want a review before a test.
Like that Math 24 and Math 25 are combined as well as having My Math Lab available.
I hate math in general, but I was able to laugh at my silly and simple mistakes rather than frustrating myself about them.
Being able to retake the tests when scoring low.

great teacher
he is truly one of the best math teachers i have ever had. and i did not like math before this semester, yet Mr. E, inspired me to see past the numbers and formulas to the deeper meaning of math at its roots. and that is the best thing a teacher can give his student. Inspiration.
Hes the man!! Good teacher. Explains math well.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Evans major strengths are letting students know what options they have and to encourage them to do better. Really informative and helpful when needed.
Evan is amazing with one on one teaching. There hasn't been a single issue in Math 24 that he has been unable to walk me through within 5 to 10 minutes at MOST. Every method I have been shown by him has been quick and effective. Definitely one of the best math teachers in his genre that I have had the pleasure of being a student to.
He is fair to all students
He explains the work for me to understand better and faster.
Easy to work with and always asks students if they need help.
Very patient and takes the time to explain the math problems to you.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I don't see any changes. system works really well for me.
I have no suggestions as to what to change in the class. The method that was chosen was very effective for my learning process.
I don't have any changes to suggest Evan because most of our work were online.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He really encourage students to be on top of work, He has one on one meeting with students and talks what needs to be done. He also emails students for any information so that we know whats going on.
Evan showed concern by sending me multiple emails about my progress in the class and what I should do to improve.
He will help the students out if they don't understand the book and the virtual teacher.
Yes, sitting down with us and teach us the math in a understanding way.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes i would, He strongly encourages students to get the work done.
I would definitely recommend Evan to other students. I myself can say that math has always been my weakest of all subjects in school. I believe that this is due to having poor teachers in my classes. Teachers like Evan help me to push forward in a subject that I am academically weak in.
Yes. I would recommend Evan to students because he's he type of professor you shouldn't be scared of. He'll help you with what ever you need help on.
yes. because I loved the self pace class.

This course was helpful because it lets you do the work on your own paste and you don't have to rush unless there's no time left.
Self pace was very important to those who work full Time.
It was a self pace class and everything I learned was vaulable.
It is good to have a self-paced and flexible course.

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
maybe some sample equations send to students by email (weekly) for extra credit. and if we get it wrong he can explain and show the mistakes.
No idea.
At the beginning of class, he should ask everyone if there's anything they need help on because some students may have the same problems. Not every one has the confidence to ask for help.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Evan knows his materials and explains things well.
He has flawless problem solving skills in math and he explains problems clearly, making them really easy to understand.
Evan is an excellent teacher whose major goal is to help his students in anyway possible to understand the material and pass so that the student is always moving foward to reach his or her goals.
He takes the time to explain the assignments.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
The whole math 98 thing. now that i want to transfer schools it is giving me problems.
No changes.
If the problems wouldnt be so repetitive, i wouldnt be so confused!
None. Professor Yoshimura is always trying new concepts to help the student progress so that he/her can continue on to a higher math level that their major requires. He is an innovator and is always willing to try new concepts that he feels would benefit the student. He is not one to go against conventionl thinking or shaking up the status quo.By using fresh ideas students get motivated and in the long run retention rates go up as do graduation rates.I think other majors on this campus and the UH acedemic system as whole should have professors that are not scared to try new ideas with the overall goal to make the student interested and proficent in any subject.
NO
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Yes.
He modified our math lab website to make it a bit easier to maneuver through, checked around the class to make sure everyone was getting help or making progress, gave partial credit after every test.
I hate when he gives put down emails
He is very concerned about every student that registers for his class. His one on one style is great. He has never been the type that assumes that you know the subject, rather he will directly ask you if you need help and will gladly go over lectures if any student didn't get it the first time around.
He askes us if we need help
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes he is a good teacher but the course not if your planning on changing schools.
Yes, because he is a good teacher and he knows his stuff!
Without a doubt, yes I would recommend the professor to any student if they asked me.
yes i would reccomend him to someone eles.because he is very helpful
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
good teacher
I never seen someone that loved math as much as Mr. Yoshimura. He helped me understand a lot of things that I just couldn't figure out on my own.
Again one of his greatest strenghts is not being afraid to try new methods of teaching students. In my opinion he is the Professor of the "new generation" of an old subject called math. The days of teaching math the old way is numbered, thanks in part to Professors like Evan Yoshimura.

finish 2 math classes in one semester
It sharpened my critical thinking and problem solving skills.
That this Hybrid math combining math 24 and 25 makes alot of sense because it enables the student to get to math 100 a whole lot quicker. Alot of the majors in the UH system requires a minimium of math 100 just to get into any program such as EMT Training as an example.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He provides a lot of support to his students. Anytime I needed help outside of class, I could just email him about my situation, and he would email me back within that day or the next day. He also explains things very clearly to help you out.
Very well-organized teacher. He knew what he was talking about and knew what he was doing. Was helpful during class and showed respect towards students. Was very informative and encouraging. Showed concerned for the students.
Knows the subject very well. Always willing to help students out if they have any problems with anything.
very knowledgable!
He let us know all our options for the class, and ways around a problem.
he is really smart and help real good.
Evan Yoshimura's major strengths as a teacher are giving clear demonstrations of how to do math problems and reminding students to finish up the deadlines.
Most of the lectures are done with efficiency in terms of time, and few things are left misunderstood. It is very much straightforward how the class is taught, which is appropriate for a math class setting.
Evan explains ways to solve problems in a more simple and less complicated way.
Mr.Yoshimura is great at explaining the material and I like that he provides more than one solution to a problem so you can decide best what works for you. It's obvious that he wants his students to succeed (which makes his class that much more enjoyable) because he always makes sure to communicate and send out reminders about what's due.
Knowlege of subject mater
He is easy to understand.
He gives students opportunities to make their grades higher.
He has a way of making his students understand the topics the easiest possible way.
Mr. Yoshimura is very clear and thourough. He answered the "stupid" questions sincerely and without judgment. He was concerned for the students' academic success and helped in any way possible.
He knows good/easy ways to solve problems and that helps us a lot. Well organized. He knows the subject area pretty well.
Mr.Yoshimura's major strengths are that he is caring, encouraging, accessible, helpful, compassionate, and innovative. He made sure that all his students would be successful in their mathematic endeavors by always willing to help them understand in their own way. He turned someone like myself, who dreaded math become a lover of it and use it more than I thought. I am thankful to have gotten a math teacher like him because I have excelled in it more that I could have ever imagined. Mr.Yoshimura instilled in me great math ethics and to be confident in math. He is the best math teacher I have ever had and I am amazed how he motivated me to do my best. I am glad to have had him this semester and is blessed to have him next semester as well. Mr.Yoshimura's strengths have become strengths in me and I am very happy that his goodness has rubbed off on me.
He showed many different ways to complete the homework, so we could find a way to do the work in a way that was easy for us.
He is accessible to all his students and is very patient to go over material that one does not understand. He speaks clearly and goes over the lectures if we do not understand the material.I think what makes Evan a good instructor is that he cares about his students and makes accommadations so that his students do not fall behind and fail.He does not blow right through the material as do other instructors do, rather he goes at a speed that that does not let the slowest student fall behind and the faster learners have an oppertunity to go faster or slower. The bottom line is that no one gets left behind.
He is outgoing and prepared to teach his students. His lectures are fun and easy to understand. He gives up his free time to help students and makes sure they get a passing grade.
was able to break down the problems very well for all students.
He's very good at answering questions, and understanding personal issues.
Knows the subject well.
He really took time to tell you what you needed and what you could do to help with your grades and better understanding.
His strengths as a teacher was he explained the math material well which was relatively easy to understand. He gave a lot of examples to understand the material well.
knowledge
he explains well with and he uses different examples too. He has natural passion of teaching.
He is well organized and knows how to teach in a way that the students will understand him. He does not leave anyone behind if they do not understand the material.
He really enjoys teaching Math!
Knows the material, and shows passion for his job.
He is right to the point and explains clearly and efficiently, and always offers to provide more examples when the students don't understand.
hes very educated
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
There is nothing I would want to change.
None.
None
none!
Nothing.
he need no change
I suggest to Evan Yoshimura that the test should be an average of 70% and the quiz should be an average of 80%.
Perhaps allowing assignments to be completed an extra hour after the time that is currently set as the standard for homework and quiz deadlines.
None
Change the due dates of assignments & Exams. I think the Homework & quizzes cannot be due the same day as the last day to take the Exam. The Homework & quizzes should be due on a certain day & then everyone is equal to start taking the test the next day. Give about 3-4 days to take the test. In the mean time, lecture on the section mod. then have students do their HW & quizzes.
I think the use of MyMathlab is a very helpful tool, however, I also feel that it sometimes takes his job away from him. There were numerous classes that students, including myself, didn't pay attention because we were too preoccupied with MyMathlab.
More board examples including more of the basic steaps
For him to email students that are not in class, if their alright and so forth. More concern.
N/A
None.
I suggest he teach Math 25 in the same format in which he taught my Math 24 class I had with him. It really helped everything "click". I find it very inconvenient to have to go back to the "old way" of learning math.
I don't have any changes I would suggest because he is just a great teacher and his teaching is impeccable. He was thorough with everything and really put a handle on his students' learning. I never felt like I was not a priority in his class because he always made himself accessible either by email or in person.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He showed concern for students by providing help every time you ask him a question. If a student is doing poorly he would talk to them individually and provide them support. He also shows concern by informing the student how they are doing in his class.
If students were falling behind, he would remind them to get back on task. Was helpful when needed and very informative. Reminded students the times he'd be in the computer lab if they needed him.
He'll email or he'll go up to the students and ask them straight up if they have any problems with the homework. He is always willing to help. He really loves the subject he teaches and he always has an easier way of solving the problems.
he kept us on track to pass the course
He talked trough our concerns and problems, any issues, he clearly explained our options.
very much so
Yoshimura should know if students are having problems with parts of the math sections.
He would offer to help when discussing a student's progress with the student. He would point out any faults the student was having, and suggest that the student make changes in order to allow them to progress with little problem
He emails you if you have been showing up to class and is also availabe before and after class for help. He also replys to emails quickly
Mr.Yoshimura always communicates effectively and keeps everyone up to speed with their grades and what they need to do to move forward. He's always eager to help students.
Personal contact and assistance , encourage student to seek help if needed
Neutral
He gives us the encouragement to push harder and he tells us what we need to do in order to improve our grade.
He always remind us about due dates and if were are behind with some of our works.
His concern for the students was evident through his availability and willingness to help both in and outside the class. He was very helpful in his constsant reminders of upcoming deadlines.
He's always asking if we need help, walking around the class to see if we're stuck.
Mr.Yoshimura showed great concern for his students by truly getting to know them, so that he could help them learn to the best of their abilities. He never stopped in making teaching benefit everyone even if some students don't get it the first time he lectured it because he would try other methods to get them to understand. Mr.Yoshimura used personal life experience in correlation to math that would help us adjust and see how math really affects us. I now find myself using what he taught me in almost everything I do, which that common saying,"you don't use math in real life'" has become invalid to me.
He understood schedule conflicts and always reminded us when the homework was due.
Speaking for myself, he pushed backed the dues dates for my homework and exams after I got into an accident which set my progress back. That made it manageable for me to catch up and learn the material.I'm not sure if any other instructor would take the time to do that.
He checks our portfolio and asks us if we need help with anything and he also offers to help us even after class.
portfolio checks showed concern for the students grade throughout the semester.
He'd help out if he knew you had jobs and other personal reasons
Showed us our academic progress.
He emailed me and reminded me of assignments that were due which showed that he really cared.
Yes, he showed concern for students if they had missed classes or tests. He would ask them whats the problem and would work things out for the student to be on track with the subject.
Kept up on them about work
He gives remainder to not forget assignments that before the deadline. Also he helps the people who are in low grade or behind the program if something that he would do,and he he passes different information what's going on in the campus.
He was willing to meet up with them before or after classes.
Making sure they choose the right path
Always gave feedback whenever we had portfolio checks. was always willing to help students with problems
He always reminded the students that the lab was open if they had questions or needed to catch up, and he also encouraged participation in solving problems.
he talks to you daily to let you know about your progress
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, i definitely would recommend him to students because he is very helpful when you need help, very clear to understand, well organized, and cares about his students succeeding.

Yes, hes a good teacher, he know whats hes doing and taking about.
maybe
I would recommend Evan Yoshimura to students because he is a good instructor.
Yes. He knows this subject matter well enough to the point where there is little thought involved.
Yes. Because the material we learn in math 24 are material that we do not remember, evan helps make it clear again. Also teaches us ways to solve problems that make it easier and takes less work and stress.
Definitely, besides all the reasons stated above, the proof is in the pudding. I've never understood math but I've become extremely confident with my math skills this semester. This is the first time I've genuinely understood fractions.
Yes, Very patient and helpful
Yes because his class is fairly straight forward. Just come to class and you should get a good grade.
Yes because he helps the students understand better when we're struggling.
Yes. Students really learned a lot from his class.
Yes I would definitely recommend Mr. Yoshimura because he made what was once difficult, easy.
Yes. He's a very good professor. He knows many ways to solve problems. If students do the hw and quizzes, his class will be easier.
I would recommend Mr.Yoshimura to all students that want to learn and succeed in math because this teacher is the epitome of a great instructor. He teaches math in a way that most teachers I had didn't, which made it difficult for me to excel. I never felt neglected or stupid in his class, but instead felt confident and math savvy because of him and his teaching. I am amazed how one teacher has changed my mind and my learning abilities.
I would because he made the work easy to understand.
Of course! No doubt about it. He really does care about his students and he wants them to succeed.
Yes, because his lectures and easy to understand and he double checks quizzes and tests so that we could get a higher grade.
yes i would, made the things make sense, going through everything.

yes. he understands material, hes very lenient on things, and cares for students and their ability to learn
I would recommend this class because he teaches the lessons clearly without droning on and on for a boring 50 minutes. His lectures are great aids to the My Math Lab program implemented in this course.
yes i would recommend
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is very concern when students are not doing too well in his class, and I can honestly say that he tries his best to encourage them to keep doing their best.
Keep doing what you're doing.
N/A
Keep it up!
hes should be nominated for the nobel peace prize
I would say that Evan Yoshimura is a good professor
He is very easy to communicate. He is very understanding and grades fairly.
He is nice.

He makes mathematics fun to study.
Even though he is a busy guy he took the time to write me a recommendation which I appreciated very much.
I would also like to say that Mr.Yoshimura is an amazing mentor and instilled great positive things in me. I believe he deserves so much for all he does for his students because his dedication is overwhelming.
Great instructor who is very easy to talk to.He makes me feel like we have been good friends for years, which makes me feel comfortable.
Class was organized and I was able to focus on my work and get things in on time.
very patient teacher.
i am grateful to have had him for my first semester
nothing.
He is #1 !!!
Professor Yoshimura is a good teacher for the subject, he explains things well and is easy to understand.
good math teacher
I wish he would be my teacher in my next class because he way of teaching just right enough to go through
good teacher.
He says he's boring, but he's not. And he's a good teacher because he enjoys math.
i want to take another one of his classes
18. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The portfolio checks every two weeks were most valuable because this was the time where we had one on one talk to him. He would discuss to us on how we are doing in his class, what we need to work and focus more on, and this also allowed us to ask him any questions we may had.
I liked the self-paced course. I found it easier to learn on my own, than listening to a lecture. I was able to do my work when it was convenient for me.
The fact that it was self-pace. I really liked it because no one is rushing me and I can take my time.
the repitition and how it helped make sure you understand material.
the tests
No deadlines, normal pace, and labs were most valuable for the course.
Review of basic math. Preparation for higher level math class, which would then allow enrollment into science classes and certain philosophy classes.
Learning how to solve system equations easier
lectures
The module powerpoints, lectures, portfolios
The fact that the teacher can answer and help the student understand better.
Everything
Clear classroom instruction and easy online coursework.
That we had several instructors to help us
The aspects I found most valuable of the course is his emphasis that mistakes are what makes you because he said you learn much more from them then a perfect score. I found that to be true because every problem I got wrong or misunderstood caused me to work harder to know them, which later gave me great success on tests. I found that I wasn't afraid to be imperfect than my usually fixation of grade perfection. From his teaching I have excelled greatly in math and is learning more from him that will help me in my everyday life.
Lectures. It gives the course a human element to it,in that the online course cannot provide. In my opinion, lectures will never be totally eliminated from one's education. They are much to valuable for the learning process.
To get an A so I can take Math 111 and 112.
i enjoyed having the homework and quizzes online. and having a lecture as well.
im not sure.
The timeline that was provided. It made it where the course wasnt just dropped on you, but instead broken up and arranged nicely.
The most valuable aspects of the course would be everything he is teaching. The course can help us to understand math better and prepare the students for their future.
i like how its on a computer with lecture days
to specifically the ward problems exercises wasn't easy, so he encouraged me very much
The fact that we had to do a lot of work online. I learned how to manage my time.
being able to refresh my memory of math with his clear understanding of the material
Everything from this course is valuable because it provides the basics and the foundation for math courses that students will need to take in the future.
learning
19. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
I think taking notes were least valuable because I feel that in the homework, it showed a lot of examples and videos we could use to help and show us how to do a problem, and I think that taking notes wasn't necessary. I also think that the math lab hours were necessary because we already have enough time to do our homework and quizzes at home and in class.
I don't think there really was anything in the course that was not valuable. I liked this course.

I would say nothing because I found everything valuable to much degree. I mean I would have like to have less tests, but you need them to see where you are and establish a foundation.
Nothing. Its a totally balanced course that does not need any changes.

I would say Mr.Yoshimura is amazing and my favorite teacher I have had at KCC. He made me feel capable and has given me a great power in my scholastic care than I have ever had. I am amazed at how much he has changed my way of thinking and how I handle myself. I have found a new found confidence in myself that I never had, which I am thankful of how his teaching and mentoring has affected me in such a positive way.
Great instructor.Answers all his e-mails promptly and any questions that one may have.Definitely an asset to KCC's math department.
Great teacher , made the semester go by real fast, easy grade.
Great teacher.
Good teacher. teaches well.
He is a caring and very good teacher.
He is a good teacher for the math 24 course. He explains well and give a lot of examples for the students to understand. Shows concern for the students who have missed class or assignments and gets them back on track.
great teacher
I love your class and your motivation of technique and your passionate to teach, I enjoy it very much
He is a great teacher!
good and knowledgeable teacher. hes a really good influence on students.
His class is definitely worth taking if you need a refresher for math or are learning math for the first time.
hes cool
23. Other comments:
This course was self paced and even though Prof Yoshimura was helpful when I had a question I never had the opportunity to learn his strengths or weaknesses as an instructor.
I would want him to be my math teacher again.
n/a
It is good for Math 24.
He also puts one's math anxiety at bay by making you feel confident in that you can accomplish what you set out to do by just putting in the time to study and understand the material.Mind you, he never uses pressure tactics on a student to get things done, but just confidence to go out and give it your best shot.

14. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He doesn't mind repeating himself.
He shows different methods.
different approach
I really liked his organization skills and how on top of everything he did.
Very fun and polite. Knows the subject very thoroughly and it shows in his teaching and methods. It really shows that he enjoys teaching, and in the future when taking a math course, I would very much like to have him as an instructor again.
He knows how to solve problems, explain, and teach different kinds of methods to solve a certain problem.
making the class interesting, knowing his stuff and the work sheets he printed out.
His ability to explain the material thoroughly.
Availability
He knows his subject very well.
He knew what he was doing and he was always available when needed to help.
his knowledge of the material is good.
he knows what hes talking about and can explain problems well
15. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Demonstrate more patience/empathy with students who don't understand the "obvious".
dont use mymath lab. its shit
Nothing, i feel that he was more than fair and a really good teacher.
Absolutely nothing. Everything was perfect given the circumstances and expectations for a summer course.

i think that attendance should be optional since most of the work is on line anyways.
16. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He cared about our progress in the class. It felt like he wanted all of us to do well. And he made sure that we understood the material as we were going over them.
He made himself available for any questions or concerns before and after class. He went over everyone's work diligently and gave partial credit wherever necessary. He also offered a few extra credit oppurtunities.
changed due dates when course compass was down. and its down at the moment again and alternate login doesnt work. shitty website for reliability
He really wants us to succeed, trying different ways to help us understand the material. When we did not have access to my math lab over the weekend he reschedule the tests to be fair to us so we would have the opportunity to study.
Made himself available at any time and was very reasonable when UN-foreseen circumstances arouse as they often do during a fast paced course.
He made worksheets for us to practice and review, sent emails with information we need (such as due dates, exam dates, etc.) He also checks answers when we finish tests so we are able to get partial credit.
asking if we needed help, giving us reviews and doing problems on the board.
By being available
He always encouraged students to participate.
He was always there to one on one help the students with any struggles. He also sent out a lot of emails to help keep us informed.
he extended the homework due dates when the web site was down. he also allowed us to turn in our quizzes directly to him so that he can verify the answers with the computer as well as check the work.it was very helpful.
Have us turn in quizes so we can see why we got a problem wrong
17. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes because he is great at teaching and actually cares about the students.
He was very clear and a good teacher, but it was difficult to keep up with the 3-4 hours of homework daily alongside a 45 minute to 1 hour quiz daily. I know that it is an accelerated course, but Math 24 summer session was half the homework...example: 25-50 problems a day as opposed to Evan Yoshimura's 45-90 problems a day.
yes
I would totally recommend him to students and wish he would teach math 100. Reason why? Just read the above.
I would not recommend this kind of course to anyone else, especially for the summer. I struggled with this computer format in Math 24 and I am doing far worse in Math 25. The overall experience is the worst I have had in 2 years at KCC.
Absolutely. He is a breath of fresh air when taking a math class. He speaks clearly and slowly, takes his time in showing the steps, and is always available for extra help and instruction.
Yes, unless the individual does not like doing homework on the computer..
yes. good teacher, interesting and helpful.
Yes, due primarily to his availability
Yes I would, he is a very good teacher.
He helped me understand. He explains well.
Yes, he is a good math professor.
yes, because i did like the structure of the class.
yes because he teaches well
18. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Evan Yoshimura is a great teacher because He spends a lot of time lecturing different methods.
coursecompass is shit!! please switch to regular book and so we dont need to pay 250 for book and internet website fee that is a total rip off because im gonna fail the course cause the website is down periodically
Very enjoyable and likable instructor. Makes the class as fun as a math class can expect to be. Delivers the material in a very effective and understandable method. I wish their were more educators like him.
Easy to understand, explains well

20. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
The course syllabus and schedule was organized and easy to understand.
It prepared me for fall semester because it challenged my time management skills.

The teacher. This is the 2nd time i took math 25 and the reason i am doing better is in part to his lecture and teaching style.
Gave me a better foundation to build on in continuing my college degree and a better understanding of math.
We are able to work at our own pace, since the due date for a chapter is on the same day.
worksheets
The amount the instructor was available to his students
I liked the mymathlab.
It was at our own pace so it helped me to find more self motivation rather than relying on teachers to tell you when to do things/
the on line web site, really helped me go at my own pace.
21. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
There was no part of little value, but one would rather practice on the homework than do the worksheets if given a choice.
COUSE COMPASS MY MATH LAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
least valuable is that my math lab is not clear about how to do the math. But that is why having a lecture class with Mr. Yoshimura is really imperative and extremely helpful.
It a bit off putting that the assignments and tests are conducted online.
Because the homework and quiz are done at our own pace, we can slack and do everything last minute.

I don't like math. so I think math in general is least valuable
Question 19 of this survey. Really, asking about personal responsibility on a survey about a math professor. What. The. Fuck.
we had a short period of time to go through chapters so it felt rushed
22. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Good! I would take him again if he instructs Math 103.
A+, terrific teacher!
please dont use my math lab even though it is a easy way out for you. because it isnt a easy for the students
A great teacher and KCC is really lucky to have him as a teacher.
He knows the subject matter but he did not help me learn. The way the class is eet up you really have to do most of the learning on your own the best you can.
Excellent math instructor. He definitely found his niche in life and does a fantastic job at teaching this course.
Good teacher, thank you!
:)
Thumbs up.
Very good teacher, wish their was more like him.
he was nice and created a good learning environment
He is a competent professor.
very good

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is a good teacher, it's just not a good class for someone with my learning style.
Evan knows math well.
He's good at reminding everyone when the deadlines were and to just keep us informed on everything.
Evan knows his material! He really does, and he gives his all for his students. He knows how to communicate with us students, and can relate to how we learn. He is also always open to listening to you. He is also passionate about his area of expertise.
committed, fair, understanding
Organiziation, getting back to studetns
He knows the math well and can explain it.
He would always remind us to put more time on our homeworks & quizzes, test. He talked very clearly && had a good attitude towards our class.
He knows his material well and can explain it pretty clearly.
Willing to be of service at anytime to tutor. I do not however like the course material. It needs to be more explanitory, the materials should be more interesting and easy to understand, seeing that it is a self paced course. I would be good for students who are approaching the subject of Algebra 24 for the first time.
He is very good with explaining how to do a problem.
see above
He is very intelligent. Understands what he's teaching. When asked a question he answers it and makes sure you understand.
Sent emails regularly with updates on progress and where I could improve, made workshops available for extra help, and checked my progress regularly.
He made us strive for better grades and made us write down our quiz/test questions so that he could give us feedback.
He is very good at laying down the big picture at the start of it. He knows his math as well as i could tell and dident seem to be hung up on any problems when presented to him.
very knowledgeable in math.
His consistency.
He made a good lab monitor!!
His major strengths as a teacher is his kind personality towards students, knowing the course material well and caring for everyone.
knows subject well.
He knows his subject area very well.
The instructor knows the material very well and can hone in very efficiently on learning blocks. He is able to instruct in a way that makes sense to me, saying the right thing in the right way to convey the concept.
He shows concern for students. He will sit down with you and discuss your progress and how you can improve if you need to. He is also willing to help outside of class and is very knowledgeable about math.
good interaction with students,
He knew what he was talking about, and was always open for when I had questions.
Good communication within his students and himself. Having time available for his students at basically any time of the day. He was avilalable and pushed us to visit him outside of class
He helps you when you need it. And he takes time to tell you your class situation or grade situation
He was very available and helpful for any problems.
Checking the progress of his students and letting them know how they are doing.
He's fair and knows what he's doing.
Mr.Yoshimura always offered help, kept letting us students know whether we're on track with our course or not.
He would provide help for the students in need of help and he would explain it well.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Not to have an online class.
N/A
None. The way he teaches, and the way the class is set up is on the right track.
get a gf
I think Binder checks were kind of pointless because we don't really use our old tests later.
None.

none
none.
Maybe give us more attention in class. I feel like it was an online class.
None that i could think of.
Some students told me that he made them feel dumb, so maybe go even slower with slow students.
Actually TEACH the class!!
The only suggestion I would give to him is to give feedback on student's homework and quizzes. When you tell students their score on quizzes, you could check each problem and see which ones students got wrong. Then write some advice on how to solve the problem or what we could do better next time.

Stabilize the grading structure on this class! Stop with the major last week of instruction grading policy changes! Stop the food and drink in the room. People are grazing on chips and sticky stuff while using shared public computer keyboards - NASTY!
Now that we are having weekly workshops (our class was self-paced) that serve as additional help, I don't have any more suggestions.
any, because the coures was self paste course and the teaching techniques are different, something I never experienced before.
Nothing
None. Maybe just the requirements to pass quizzes should be lowered that is all
None
None.
If we do all the work on the computer it might be easier if we took the midterm and final on the computer too because that's what we're used to.
Nothing.
No changes.
I don't really have any suggestions.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He was available for people to ask questions.
He reminded us to come in for lab hours.
He did a one on one once a week for portfolio checks
He is one of the most concerned teachers actually, we had lab monitors and him as well, that would walk around the class and make sure we were all right. He also held workshops on Fridays that helped us students even more!
email
He asked if i was doing okay on certain modules, the ones i took couple times to pass.
Through e-mail and face-to-face meetings.
He met with us individauly once a week during class to show us where we stand and how we can improve.
did his job well
He showed concern by making sure why students didnt attend class through email. Made sure everything is ok outside of class. He helped any students that needed any extra attention.
Checked progress regularly and sent emails and talked to me us in class on where we should be and what we should do to get to where we need to be.
He told us how behind or ahead we were in class and if we were doing good by doing weekly portfolio meetings.
He constantly kept up on you if you were lagging constantly reminding you about time lines that seemed immaterial at the time but turned out to be very key when they came around.
Sitting down and working out the problems with you.
By making time outside of class to meet with students, helping them as much as possible and telling us upcoming events.
motivation
held a portfolio check every week or two to make sure we are progressing.
By actively involving himself in friday seminars. By sending out notices for *most* important changes and relevant details.
He calls everybody up one by one every week. Not just to do a portfolio check, but to take the time to personally talk to you about your progress. He lets you know about the workshops and the tutoring, and everything you need to do to get extra help if you need. That's what students need.
Offered help if students need it.
Responding to my emails and helping me when I needed it.
Always asking if we needed any help. Great Job.
Conferences during class along with personal e mails.
Tell you your progress week and told you what you need to get done in the class.
He talked to each student individually about their progress and helped to plan a guide to success.
Met with them to let them know how they're doing and how they can improve and what to expect.
He had weekly check ups and let them know what they can do to improve their scores if they were falling behind.
He'd meet with us once a week, checking our binders, and talk about our grades. Somewhat helped us prepare ourselves for the next course if we needed to take it.
He would check up on our portfolio and make sure we were keeping up with the modules.
He would tell us every week for us to keep up with our work and stay on schedule so we wouldn't fall behind.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
No, I would not recommend this class to anyone else. I liked being able to work at my own pace, but the online part wasn't informative.
Yes, because he is able to help with most questions asked to him.
If they would like a hybrid class then yes
Of course! If your open to learning, this is the perfect class!
yes, hes awesome
Idk
Yes,
Yes, he's available and will make time on his schedule to help his students.
yes because he is a good teacher who makes the course simple and clear.
Yes, he is very clear, prompt, and helpful
Yes, because he's very good at what he does.
Yes, because I think self-paced math helped a lot, especially since we still had to be in class. I didn't feel like I was being rushed.
Yes because I think he is very smart and knows what he is doing and talking about.
He was a good teacher--as good as the others i've seen and better then quite a few. I would say hes a well balanced teacher.
yes. Easy to get along with.
No. If you are a student who doesn't understand Math that well, Mr. Yoshimura has a 'know it all' attitude sometimes and can make you feel stupid.
Yes, I would recommend this teacher to other students because they could learn a lot from him and he's funny when talking to other instructors. Whenever someone raises their hand for help, he approaches them in a kind attitude.
yes i would recommend evan yoshimura to students. good teacher, and knows subject well.
yes, if you need help he can explain and break down problems to help you understand better.
Yes, but he and his associates have dishonest ideas about grading / policy changes.
I would. Although our class was self-paced and we did not receive lectures from him, he is very knowledgeable about his subject and I know he would be a good lecture teacher, as well.
Yes I would, good inte
