1. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
It was my first college English course.
I'll remember this course by my improved essay skills.
The teacher is something I'll remember. She's really nice.
My professor taught my brother English in high school. I made the connection a few days after the first day of school. St. John has been nothing but supportive and helpful in furthering my writing career. For that, I'll always be thankful.
How confusing it was...
How much i enjoyed learning from this teacher
its most hear warming and very friendly classmates.
Helping with smoother transitions and condensing a topic for the reader to understand clearly. Also using diction to strengthen my paper.
2. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
Everything expected of us is presented in a clear logical manner.
I found the readings and the multiple revisions on the assigned essays helpful. I loved that I got the chance to revise myself and learn more about transitions and markings and how to condense all of my information into a single essay.
My writing ability changed through time in this course. She gives good feedback, and is very supportive.
The best thing I learned from this course was how to write a research paper. Predominately, I write fiction, and have dabbled in essays and travel pieces. Writing academic papers has always been difficult for me, given the fact that I'm a creative writer. I can now go much more confidently into the world of academic writing!
The peer editing and turning in multiple drafts
St John holding conferences for students who need help with essay.
great group activities. comfortable good energy. useful material.
3. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Peer reviews are more beneficial done anonymously.
Professor St John can improve her course by grading better. It would have been more helpful for her to give an immediate grade on every assignment in the grade book to know that where I stand. There were quizzes and tests and forums that went on being ungraded for weeks, and I would have just liked to have known my scores more often instead of waiting until the end of the semester.
Less forum posts. I was drowning this semester in forum posts. I also always forgot about them.
For me, English 100 was an easy class. I've always been passionate about writing and English--most of things taught in this course were things I had already learned. I think one think that would really help is if she would post on Laulima exactly what she wanted from our homework. When she explained it in class, it could sometimes get a bit confusing.
By being more clear with her expectations and not babying us majority of the way.
continuing what she is doing now
Keeping up with students work, asking them when their gonna turn in the work.
everything seemed professional.
4. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
She is very helpful and accommodating.
What I found most valuable was her kindness and her patience that she gave to every student. Never did I once see her in a bad mood, and she inserted a couple of activities each class to show involvement with the students. She is so sweet and smart.
Her feedback is always positive. All my papers she had something good to say. If there was anything negative, she'd support with positive evidence.
I mentioned this above, but St. John really worked and pushed me to produce the work she knew I could. We spent hours with my essays, workshopping and rearranging words and paragraphs until it was perfect.
She's always willing to be accommodating
she gave a weekly schedule that was clear and kept students on track. It was really nice seeing what we were going to do for the day and what was due at the beginning of class
Her helpful personality and being nice by creating conferences.
great understanding for students making sure everyone felt equal and on the same track. as well as useful readings to help clarify some points
5. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
She is an excellent instructor.
My overall evaluation is a 8/10 if that was the scale that I was evaluating her on. I had already known that ENG 100 was going to be difficult, so I prepared myself. I just wish that the grading would have been more consistent throughout the course.
Great teacher. Sometimes she can be a little loose with her time management, But she's really good. She works well with people, and is always keen to look out for us when we're not doing so hot.
St. John is a wonderful woman and teacher. I'd recommend her to any of my friends or family looking to take a course with her as the professor.
shes a very effective teacher who really cares about her students
maika'i no!
great teacher for the course.

26. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She is accommodating and is available often for help.
Professor St John showed concern for her students by being in every class. She is very lenient on late work and just strives for everyone to turn in the assignment and get some sort of points. I love the fact that she is organized and has her schedule ready.
She takes the time needed to help students workshop and perfect their essays.
if someone seemed out of it she would show genuine concern and ask if they are ok.
by holding conferences and meeting halfway with a student who is behind.
making sure students had options to improve their school work out side of class. using peer feedback exercises. checking up on everyone in the class.
27. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I liked that this course was very clear cut.
I liked the way she made her syllabus and prepared all of her work. I also loved the group work that she assigned for everyone. I disliked the grading and the exceeding amount of homework that was given every class session. I feel like she graded the essays a little harshly and the essays were due so quickly, it was hard to keep up.
Because of a lack of motivation in the class, it seemed all of the material had to be dumbed down quite a bit. For me, this made the class not as interesting. I think if there was more use of multimedia platforms, everyone's attention would be captured more.
she showed us many new things. I used new learning tools such as brainfuse to help better my writing. We also did a lot of peer editing to gauge how others viewed our work.
i liked how she was open to giving us extra credit on other essays and articles to do. Disliked nothing.
liked her up beat attitude and strong interest in the course topic great insight on material
28. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Overall, I love this professor. She is the sweetest person you could every talk to, and she is so smart. She is well rounded and has the answers to most questions regarding Eng 100. When someone is talking, she shows true concern for what they are asking.
She's a really efficient teacher who really pushes her students to grow
She loves English.
Earned her teaching credentials
29. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend her. She is a good instructor and the course flows logically.
I would recommend Professor St John to other students because she is smart and her course allows you to push yourself. Instead of having easy classes, she is hard because she wants to prepare you for reality and let you use your skill to its full extent. St John wants you to succeed and become better writers, readers, thinkers, and editors. This course has taught me so much.
Definitely! St. John is a great teacher who wants to see her students go far.
yes i loved taking her class and would recommended it to anyone
Yes because she will help you with anything!
yes, it is a great class to learn in a good environment

1. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
the readings. I thought all the readings were very interesting and tied in well with all the topics we learned about.
The people in it and the assignments. Not all assignments were fun but a lot were interactive, it was nice when we got to choose the topic.
I will remember this course in ten years when I am writing a paper and need to remember all the different writing formats.
Learning when to use commas.
The many essays i needed to write for but well worth it to practice on grammar and punctuations.
Actually doing work. I didn't really do any writing ever since my sophmore year in high school and it really woke me up. I just wished I actually took the entire course seriously and maybe I wouldn't have to beg for a passing grade.
2. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I found that the most valuable and helpful thing about this course was the instructor. She was a very understanding teacher and always offered individual help.
It was nice to get all the feedback. It would be cool to do a blind peer review so no one knows who it is so they can help more
I found that it helped having a refresher in to English and writing.
Learning how to read other peoples work and having other people read my own.
I found it helpful when instructor stays on schedule with the assignment schedule. She goes over the schedule everyday before class.
The fact that Professor St John was always available to help in any way possible was just awesome.
3. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
The only thing i can suggest is that she modify the work load in relation to the amount of class we have. During this semester we missed four classes in one month and it really hurt the amount of work we could get done.
Be more informative. Not always informative. She isnt very clear with stuff so you need to ask multiple questions be understanding something
I think spending more time on each paper and explaining more about what is asked.
She taught a good course.
It would be helpful for her to be more organized with assigning homework. She has work to be done on laulima, brainfuise, turnitin.com, and hard copies. It is helpful that she has students help take notes for each class but some students are not consistent in jotting down every detail because that student is trying to pay attention and get everything down at the same time.

4. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
I thought she was very personal and did as much as she could to help everyone out, even the people who never showed up. She is very understanding and makes an effort to know her students.
The time she puts in
She was willing to work with me to figure out a way to help me improve my writing ability.
Susan always helped improve our writing and helped create flow.
Whenever someone has something to say, she always stops to listen and discuss it right the. And there.
Professor St John had so much availability.
5. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
She is a wonderful teacher and did an excellent job teaching this course. I would definitely take another of her classes.
She is a very good teacher but I think with time time frame we have its hard to go over everything needed to fully understand what is asked.
She is a good teacher
Awesome.

26. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She made herself available for individual help and listened to us when you expressed ourselves as a group.
She did give us time to catch up on our assignments.
She would always let the student talk and she would always respond back
Gosh, she encouraged students who weren't coming to class much to really try to come and gave appropriate times to make up work, honestly it was a blast taking this course.
27. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I liked that she spoke so that everyone could understand and was very clear about her expectations.
not very clear on what she wants
I did get confused at times what was due or needed to be done.
She gives a lot of homework
I liked how she led us in discussions and made up mini games to help us think more creatively. Didn't really like how people seemed to just expect to pass the class though.
28. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is an excellent teacher.
Overall I know this was a challenging class but I know I did learn a lot of things.

29. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?

yes, good teacher and class. was fun

Yes, because it does help with the many writing homework's she assigns to succeed
I would definitely recommend Professor St John to other students, she helped my dumb*** and can definitely help others.

1. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
The way we practiced our writing skills through precise drafting.
ill remember how supportive my teacher was with all the writings i did and how much her study sessions helped me improve my writing. i will also remember her class activities because they were always very fun and educational.
the style of writing that I got used to in this class. In this class I always had to be very specific in my writing. Ill also remember it as my first college class.
The helpful and kindly attitude of the teacher.
all of the hard essays that I had to do within a short period time.
the development of my writing flow.
The readings that we read and all the essays we had to write.
this class sparked an interest in writing for me and has also has given me the confidence to pursue an English degree.
The different types of essays we had to write. There we many different types.
How much writing that was required of me.
The ability to articulate my thoughts through the use of writing.
I will remember this course by my struggle to gain interest in the topics for the papers I had to write and how much fun I had doing my research paper.
I still dislike english....
2. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
Learning the differences between certain essays.
The most valuable and helpful was that she always went over ways to improve our writing during class sessions. class notes helped and class activities also helped.
The meetings with Susan were the most helpful. I also liked that there were many opportunities to turn in assignments.
The writing assignments helped me develop a voice within my papers and their topics.
I found the one on one meetings with my teacher most helpful.
The in class work, and essay work.
This course helped to improve our thinking and writing skills.
all of the sessions with you and torie have been a huge help. i will never forget the help that both of you have given me. I was very glad to have such positive comments on the my papers. I wrote about a lot of personal stuff this semester and was very scared that people would judge me from my past. But neither of you did and were both very supportive.
The one on one conferences with St John
I found that the teaching was the most valuable
I found the teachers helper torie and the conferences to be a big help.
The most valuable and helpful thing about this course is being able to analyze essays and taking a look at the events in my life that has change me in ways I never thought they would.
Essay handouts
3. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Extend the time period to do the final take home exam.
i cant think of any improvements at the moment. i think her class was great and well put together.
Th sonly thing that could improve is explaining what is due and when and where we turn it in. Sometimes assignments were unclear. Besides that everything was great.
Maybe a little less overlapping on the homework assignments towards the end of the semester, other than that I found the course load to be manageable.
I believe she can improve this course by letting us make up all of our absenses and tardies.
develop a clear assignment calendar.
I feel that she is doing everything perfectly fine.
the course was a little overwhelming but i don't think there is anything that can be done to change that. some of the rewrite deadlines where very hard to meet for me but that is mostly because i work all weekend. the Friday post were also very hard for me to get too. (thanks for letting me submit them late)
I feel I needed more time in between first and second drafts to full revise my work.
Updated grades so we can check our grades more often than just at the end of the semester to see where we're at.
I didn't care for BRAINFUSE
I felt like everything was smashed together and going by so fast that I had hard time keeping track of what assignment where do when. I think she is doing a great job at teaching but maybe there are to many things to do when turning in papers.
Not to overlap essays and reading and quizzes.....
4. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
She holds one on one conferences with each individual student to help them with any missing work or corrections that need to be done.
She was most helpful because of her study sessions she really helped me improve my papers overall from the focus of my essay to grammar and using literary devices.
She has lots of availability to see her students and was flexible to work with our schedules.
Probably the fact that she is a valuable and helpful teacher. She's good at what she does and is always willing to brainstorm and answer questions.
I found that she is very patient and helpful with my work
Her one on one support
Our instructor was very helpful, and gave us advice that could improve our writing skills.
hard to say i learned a lot and grew quite a bit as a writer.
The conference sessions.
She was very available and helpful during after class sessions.
Her clarity and organization along with her resources on laulima helped a lot this semester.
The most valuable and helpful things about St John is her constant open hours, I honestly would have not gotten anything done if I had not met with her to talk about my papers.
Very kind and soft-spoken
5. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
She has been very helpful in every aspect of my new learning in english. She has an outstanding personality and is willing to help as soon as it is needed.
She is a great teacher. I loved her class.
She is a very good teacher who helped me grow as a writer.
She is a great teacher and I am glad to have had her in my first semester in college.
I really appreciate her being my teacher
The class work makes the student stronger, the teachers one on one was great, but she could work on a clearer assignment calendar.
She is a very good instructor that teaches you a lot about writing. I do recommend her to other students taking this course next semester.
Great teacher i loved the class even though i had a hard time keeping up. I would almost take the class again so i can keep improving the papers i wrote. The papers where mostly about me and allowing me to write about myself gave me the opportunity to explore a time in my life that i tried to forget. because i reexamined my past, I was able to finally put some of the issues i was avoiding from to bed.
She is a very good teacher with no ridiculous standards. Very down to earth and open to your needs.
She is a very good teacher for this course. I had taken English 100 from a guy named Barclay and he was horrible.
a very rewarding experience. i have noticed a difference in how I converse with friends and family has greatly improved.
My overall evaluation of St John would be a 8 out of 10, only because we had so many things to do and so many steps we had to take in order to turn in a draft for one essay.
a good teacher

26. How did the instructor show concern for students?
By holding the one on one conferences and also taking time in class to answer any individual questions that we had.
She had meetings with us outside of class if we need help.
She checks on us and encourages us to turn in works.
By answering any and all questions kindly without making you feel stupid for asking them in the first.
She showed concern for her students by making sure we all turned in our work and made sure were improving our writing/essays
She always ask anyone for there help.
She made sure her students got in all their work, and if not gave them a little extra time to turn them in.
she made her self available for the students. She helped me out because i had to work all weekend and let me upload them late.
Understood when we were not able to turn in assignments on time.
She always offered her time to help and was always very kind.
She had plenty of opportunities to see her outside of class
St John showed concern for the students by opening up her office time and making us come to mandatory conference meetings.
She is always there to listen and understand
27. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I liked the way that Susan out together a layout of a 2 week schedule so we all had an idea of what needed to be done in whatever time frame that we had. I didn't really dislike anything in this class.
i liked that we had class discussions.
I really liked that she encouraged questions because it made for an interesting class discussion
At first I was a bit confused by the schedule layout but once I figured that out I was fine.
I especially liked the way she could joke around with us, I disliked nothing.
her one on ones
I liked the way she made lots of comments on our essays to show us what we need to work more on.
i liked writing about myself. it helped me grow as a writer and a person. writing about a subject that a person cares about gives them a better reason to put forth effort to make it the best paper they can write.
I liked how stress free the writing assignments felt and how loose the due dates were.
I liked that she was a fair grader and she understood that English isn't the only course we signed up for. Some teachers give work as if they are the only class were accountable for.
I liked the ability to write about a topic we have interest in.
I felt like everything was smashed together and going by so fast that I had hard time keeping track of what assignment where do when. I loved doing the research paper once found the perfect topic.
I disliked how everything was overlapped and how there were too many papers..... I liked how she made papers specifically for each essay and what we had to do for the essay. Like an outline.
28. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is extremely fair.
She is a lovely person.
She shows that she cares about her students progress in the course.
Awesome and Torie was awesome too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
She is not eccentric.
She is an excellent teacher which a very good success rate for this course. When I took English with Barclay by the middle of the semester more than half of the class stopped showing up.
She is attentive and helpful.
She is an over all great person and If I have retake English 100 again I will definitely take her class again.
You are an amazing teacher and Im sorry I couldn't keep up.....

Course: ENG 100 - Composition I Crn (Section): 62327 (0)
1. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
The fun people in it.
The amount of writing I had to do
the Models for Writers book we read. This textbook we used was helpful and beneficial to me in order to get a feel and overall understanding of what we were going to write and how it should be organized or structured. The examples from the Models for Writers book was perfect to use in enhancing my essays and learning different styles of writing. By reading the example essays in the book, I believe it has helped to form my writing style as a college student.
2. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
It taught me how to use valuable resources like brain fuse, turnitin and the library database.
Learned about different ways of writing
The most valuable and helpful aspect of this course was the ability to have open questions and the flexibility of the SI or professor. I think that being able to discuss your point of view in class will allow you to build confidence in writing your own papers and it also allows for you to understand other aspects of the topic being discussed. By having the chance to hear different points of view from your peers allows you to take another perspective on other topics and increases your academic skills.
3. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Nothing.
Forum posts were kind of pointless, in my opinion.
I enjoyed this course very much. However, the only thing that I would change is doing the essays separately. Sometimes we were going through three different essays and it can get quite confusing. I think she did this so that we could use the skills gained from one essay and use it in the future essays. Although this increases our chances to use different literary elements in more than one essay, I was sometimes confused and lost because I had to keep in mind three different essays at the same time. In my head I was going back and forth between the essays and I felt like it was not benefiting my essays. Instead, I think that it would be most beneficial to have one essay (all drafts) should be due before the next one so that the students can understand what they did good and bad on in the essay to make those changes for the next essay and to keep the good writing skills for the next one.
4. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Her sessions helped me with my essays.
Helped me through every step and revision of my paper.
Susan St John is very flexible and helpful towards the English 100 course. I was able to learn a lot about the way I write and how to change my bad habits into good ones. She has helped me evolve as a writer.
5. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Very Good.
7/10
Awesome. She allows the class to discuss different points of view. She helps students and is super flexible. She is very passionate about English and makes the English 100 class entertaining.

26. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She sets individual sessions with everyone.
She had a student instructor available to help the students with catching up. She was also available most of the time for personal meetings.
She allowed them to come in on her own time to discuss further questions outside of class. She is very flexible for students with or without further obligations such as work.
27. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
The type of essays we had to write.
It felt fast paced and rushed. We were going over a lot of material in such a short matter of time.
I like that she is super flexible and available to receive additional help on anything.
28. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is cool.
She is a very kind woman who tries her best to help the students. She is very fair about things.
She is a very excellent teacher that is flexible.
29. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
Yes, she is a very fair teacher and you will learn things.
I would recommend it to students who don't procrastinate and takes a lot of notes for reading. Not necessarily a hard teacher, but one who assigns a lot of homework.
Yes, she is flexible and able to answer all questions.
30. Other comments:
No.
I would recommend focusing on 1 essay at a time instead of working on multiple at once. First day tell the students to work on their research paper.
Thanks for a great English 100 semester

1. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
I will remember this course mostly how fast it went. It was not easy but if your want to learn it is good.
The stories that we read and the essays we had to write.
Professor St John
The vibe of the class and everyone in it. We were a small English family.
I will probably remember this course because of all the people who were in it that helped me along the way. like in all cases, those who struggle together build a greater bond. This course was challenging, but I enjoyed the challenge.
I will remember how to layout a basic illustration, and research paper. I will remember how to properly execute MLA format, and write out a bibliography. How to distinct between legitimate resources using the CRAAP test.
I want to further my education and she is great to have in the beginning when you are first starting college.
The way she showed me that she cared about what I wanted to write and gave me the push to do better
The different style of writing we did and the use of elements we used. Just because writing is something we always do and I plan to continue and finish my education. So what I learned from this class will help me in the future.
The amount of transitions I have to make between paragraphs.
The diversity of students in the class. In high school, there was such a small group of people that it was hard to get this kind of diversity. Every essay was on the same topic, and it was hard to forward your horizons by sticking with only one group of people. Now, i can see the different perspectives, clearly and it was somewhat shocking to see.
Ten years from now, I will remember this course by referring to the textbook and course packet.
Ten years from now I will remember this course to be my foundation in writing.
2. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
The most valuable thing about this course were listening to other students comments on class discussions.
She gave us tons of useful feedback on all of our essays.
Breaking down paragraphs in an essay
The required packet for this class was helpful because all of the stories and examples of the material could be found in it.
The organization and strictness on the due dates. I found those to be valuable and helpful, because everything sooner or later will have a deadline or you will be penalized. It really helped me to make sure I was being organized, and completing everything on time.
The booklet made by the professor, worksheets with useful information about how to execute a successful paper.
The different styles of writing. This class opened a whole new perspective of writing.
writing essays and learning the different types of writings
Whenever we did an essay we had time to sit down with our classmates and exchange papers. This exercise helped me because I got to hear from others about what was good and needed improvement. So when I went back to redo my essay I knew where to fix or add things. My classmates were very helpful and opinionated about things.
I learned some interesting things about writing and grammar. It will definitely help me in my future endeavors.
I thought that the Course packet was one of the most useful things in the course. It was easy to stay on track, and with the class as it moved along when i utilized the packet.
I found organization to be the most valuable and helpful about the course.
The most valuable and helpful factor about this course is the short stories. They were all interesting and the format was clearly laid out.
3. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I would have appreciated it more if we were allowed to do our assignments in class so she could help us during class time.
Less overlapping essays
I think St. John does an excellent job at teaching this course because she is patient with her students and facilitates a lot of class discussions that help with understanding the readings and looking at different perspectives.
Give one less assignment. Over the course of the year we had a good amount of work to do, but at one point I think I turned in a second draft for one paper, a first draft for a second paper, and a reading quiz. Im not asking that she expects less work from her students, just maybe take out the reading quiz.
Less forums
I cannot think of any ways to improve. I think she was a very good instructor.
maybe not have so many essays due at a time. This way we could give me time into one essay
Give a little more time between essay due dates Overall everything else is OK!
She can move a little faster with her lectures, sometimes it feels like she drags things on for to long.
Honestly, i feel that if she was a bit more organized, the course would move more smoothly. there was always too much going on at the same time.
There is no need for improvement as this course is very well taught by professor St John
I'm not sure. This is my first English course.
4. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Ms. Susan always has encouraging comments. She wanted all of us to succeed.
dedication to teach
She offered and required at least two conferences with her. This was good because you knew exactly how to perfect your essays and receive the best grade possible.
She was very helpful!! She was always open for a conference, or at least tried really hard to be available to help you. I really appreciated that.
The readings, and in class discussions that would follow.
She was always open to our opinions and she was very understanding. I feel as if she helped me to grow as a writer and as a reader.
She was always willing to meet with students if we need extra help.
She made time for her students to set up conferences at least 2.
She was very articulate and was always willing to make the time to help her students.
She was just overall a very nice person. She was very lenient while also hard on us, and i found it helpful to develop myself as a college student.
I found professor St john most valuable and helpful by her ability to have conferences. She is very helpful in a one on one conversation.
The most valuable factor about Susan is that she was always there to help me.
5. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Ms. Susan is a very intelligent woman. Iʻam proud to have been her student.
She is a good teacher.
awesome
That she is a good teacher to have. She's lenient and patient with her students which I love the most. Also the set up of tables encourages class discussion and everyone gets along.
She is an excellent educator, expecting a lot and giving a lot. A job well done.
Great instructor and educator. Mahalo nui!
Very good! Thank you so much Professor St John! You are awesome!
I liked her as a teacher she cares about her students and makes sure we understand. Always willing to meet if we have questions
She is a very patient teacher and is willing to hear your side. Makes time for her students not only during conference time but before and after class.
She knows what she's teaching and is good at conveying at what she's saying.
She is a great teacher. She knows what she's talking about, however she might want to find ways to organize her teaching style better.
She is a great professor. I would take her class in the future and I recommend that anyone considering an English course to take her class.
My overall evaluation is good.

26. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Ms. Susan made time for me after class. I shared some of my personal life with her and she was very mindful of my situation. I Ê» am thankful for the time she gave me.
always available
St. John even set meetings on the weekends just to meet with students who had trouble attending conferences during the weekdays because of work or other obligations. She makes time for her students even on her days off and I think that show's a lot of concern in wanting us to pass and earn good grades.
She always made sure everyone knew what they were missing and what they needed to complete in order to pass this class.
Communicated with students, and organized conferences to see where we at during the course offering helpful resources like SI.
She made me feel welcomed. If I had any questions, she was always willing to listen and give encouragement and feedback.
Always shows that she is willing to help us
She always gave her students a chance to share their concerns. Would ask for volunteers and participation.
She always showed concern and kept an open door policy.
She constantly sent out emails notifying us if a deadline was going to expire, or reminding us what we needed to do to pass her class.
Professor St John required that we have conferences with her so that she could see our progress and what we need help with.
She provides resources
27. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I liked class always started on time. I disliked when we could not do our assignments during class.
relaxing
I liked that she planned her schedules two weeks at a time. It gives the student a heads up of what to expect and when things were due.
I liked how she made everyone participate in the class room discussions, and tried to build a class room where everyone would be comfortable to talk and share their questions, comments, and concerns.
I liked that we had class during the evening, and met twice a week.
I liked her personality. It made me want to listen to her.
I liked how she was organized and information was detailed to understand.
Again, very articulate and clear.
I disliked the organization of the class. Every day we were talking about something different, while we always revisited old topics later in the course.
I especially like the fact that we had weekly schedule to follow and it covered assignments and due dates.
I liked her teaching because she was funny and informative.
28. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Ms. Susan is a good leader and maintains her authority as a teacher.
she's cool
Though I didn't miss any assignments, she didn't penalize others for not completing their assignment. Instead she gave them time to complete it and their only consequence was that they weren't participating in an awesome class discussion.
Mahalo for your manao!
Thank you so much for all that you've done for me! I was excited to finally go to college and now that this semester is almost over, I am excited to see what what else is in store for me.
Very nice person and easy to talk too. I learned a lot from her and wish I could take another course with her.
Thank you for being a patient teacher with me. Sometimes I had to ask the same questions over and over. She is always smiling and free spirited.
I think I said pretty much everything.
She is a great instructor.

29. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
I would recommend her to mature adults because she has been around long enough to know if you are serious or wasting everyones time.
yes because she is cool
I would recommend St. John to other students because she is a fair grader and a very nice teacher to have. Her class feels like one big family!
I would recommend students that are serious about learning and about attain their goal to sit in her class. For students who want an easy english class, she is not the best option because she has high yet attainable standards, and you are going to need to want the same!!
Yes, because she is a knowledgable teacher that is approachable and easy to talk to.
Yes! Professor St John is a good person and she is good at what she does.
yes
Yes, if you like writing and reading a lot this is the class for you. If you want a teacher who is there to help you take this class.
Yes, she clearly knows what she is teaching and I feel like I'm learning something new in every class.
Yes and no. There are certain students that would not fit in this class. If i had known this class would be like this i wouldn't have taken it but i didn't have a choice.
Yes, I recommend this class because it is very well taught and I learned a lot from this experience.
Yes. This class was a solid stepping stone.
30. Other comments:
I did not enjoy the "This I Believe" essay. I don't think that particular essay helped me as a writer. I feel like I just got frustrated over trying to figure out how to write it.
She is always available to help her students.
Mahalo!
Have a good Spring Semester!!!

21. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She allows us to have conferences with her for as many times a week as needed. In those conferences is a more one and one situation. I can have her full attention without interruption, and everything that is expected from me is clearly laid out, but not written in stone.
She went up to many of the students during each class, asking them how they were doing on papers, and she asked them about who they were doing overall, and if she needed to help them in anyway, she was there. She would constantly ask the class if they ever needed anything, they could arrange a meeting, they could see her during her office hours, or they could contact her through email or phone. She made sure the students knew she was there to help them anytime she could.
She help us with our essays
She set up conferences with students to offer help on essays and revisions.
She always gives students a chance to redeem themselves with extra credit assignments and always has time to talk to students.
she had meetings to make sure
Schedules conferences for those needing help. Listens to concerns/problems that students fa. Offers help from herself or by your peers.
She made sure that we all were on time, prepared, and ready to learn both course material and lessons that we can carry with us till the end of time.
I can tell she is concerned for her students by the way she gives us feedback on our work, and how she gives us many chances to improve our grade.
She holds personal conferences that we can sign up for every week in order to help us succeed.
She took the effort to approach students individually and set up meetings with them to help them with their writing, and provided personalized feedback for each student.
She helps students outside of class time.
We could set up meetings with her and talk about what we needed help in.
She set up conferences to help us out with our writing assignments.
She would encourage conferences in order to better help each person individually and personally. She would always give honest feedback of papers and gave many opportunities to re-do drafts before the finals.
She is readily available for conferences and always shoots out emails to remind students to finish their assignments.
22. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
She gathered everyone to the center of the class where she would lecture. She gave us turns to interact and converse with her. Never did feel judged.
The class was a neutral class. I liked the amount of enthusiasm certain students showed, but I also disliked how certain students made the class difficult because they didn't do the work, and they slowed the class down when a peer-edit came around, or when a class discussion was happening, and they didn't do the reading, so when Mrs. St. John called on them, they would sit there pretending to think, and then be like "I don't know".
She is fun and patient with her students
Ssuan St. John was impartial. She showed no favoritism nor did she show any dislike when it came to students.
I loved the book she chose for our class. All of the stories really helped me understand the different types of writing and what every essay contains. I love that I grew as a reader and writer, compared to teachers that teach one more than the other.
she made sure everyone understood the material
I think she should try to grade the major assignments (essays, research paper, etc.) in a more timely manner to hand it back to us so we have sufficient time to revise the assignments ahead of the due date instead of 2- 3 days before the assignment was due. I completely stressed over this!
I enjoy that she opens the room up to debate on questions, topics, ideals, and other forms of thoughts, its a very dual processed class.
She definitely knows the subject, and she makes the lessons really interesting. She has a positive attitude all the time. The class discussions are really deep and thought-provoking.
She is very helpful in class and helps us to pass
She used discussion-based methods to stimulate writing topics.
She's very interested in her the topics shown by students.
I liked when we did more creative writing.
She took a lot of time to listen to the individual interests of each student.
I didn't like the way that we always needed a peer editor or we'd show everyone our blog posts, but that's not her fault. I am a very private person.
Susan is a great teacher. The only thing I would recommend is that Susan organize her time so that the students get their major assignments back in hard copy to work on revisions well ahead of the due dates. The portfolio was a little too much, but it did help me to recognize and reflect on my writing skills.
23. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
During my conferences with her she would lead to the water and basically have the water there for you to drink. What I mean is that she would tell me how to do things, and where to grab the information from, but she would actually go to the source of the data, and then email it to me, instead of me trying to write notes.
She is a great teacher. I'm glad I took her class for English.
Keep doing great
She is really nice! I loved having her as a teacher.
she is a great professor
She is an amazing teacher, and i'm glad that i was able to draw her.
She is definitely a teacher to have. I think I really improved my writing skills this semester under her instruction.

She's an amazing teacher
She's very sweet and easy to talk to.
She has the best intentions.

24. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
I already have done so. Because my journey with her has been an awakening experience, and I would like people to have that with her for their own benefit. And Susan will unselfishly deliver.
Yes I would. She is a great teacher, and is willing to help anyone succeed in her class.
Yes, best english teacher ever
Yes. She knows what she is teaching and conveys instructions very clearly and offers help whenever students need it.
Yes I would because she helps improve your writing in all aspects.
yes, she is good
I thought this (English 100) was an intense writing course that you needed to focus completely on and devote most of your time to. If you missed an assignment or just didn't bother doing it, it might start to pile up on you. Of course she gives you opportunity to turn it in late or do extra credit to make some of it up. But, if you are not willing to focus on this, this may not be for you.
Yes, she doesnt just teach you, she teaches you how to teach yourself.
I would recommend her. She is very organized and falls through with all of the plans on the schedules she hands out, which I especially like because I like to know what's coming up. She is very understanding; she seemed to understand how much work we had on our shoulders so she spaced out deadlines really well to make it easy on us. She's just a great teacher, seriously.
Yes, because she is concerned for our success.
Yes, she is great for basic 100 level students who need overall writing improvement.
Yes because she's a great teacher and she takes time to meet with students outside of class
Yes because she was a good professor and I felt like I improved on my writing.
Yes I would. Her course has helped me rediscover my love for writing.
Yes, because she is very organized and involved.
I would recommend her to people who like to write intensively.
25. Other comments:
Susan listens to me from two sides of her ears, but she doesn't talk out of both sides of her mouth. You know what I mean.
Don't stop teaching
Alot of the quizzes are online, which makes it easier and more efficient.
Thank you for the wonderful year, i hope that this text finds you well.

21. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Susan is always willing to answer questions and offer ways to make up assignments.
She was always willing to conference with students and help them in any way she could.
She always would ask us to meet up outside of class hours.
She showed concern for students by answering their questions, offering help, and by making sure every student understood things.
Ms. St John offers her time each day outside of class time. She actively encourages her students to meet with her to revise and refine their work.
She had outside meetings when we needed them.
she would approach students and encourage them to do well
She understood my mum was in the hospital so i couldnt go to a meeting
By making it known to students that she is always available for assistance.
She would set up individual conferences with us to show us areas of improvement.
If she knew that they needed help then she would talk with them and go individually work with them or have meetings with them.
22. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
I like how Susan kept it simple, but still taught us what we needed to know in order to complete our assignments. She gave handouts which helped me because I am a visual person. She never made any answer seem like a wrong answer, she would just turn it around to explain what the right answer was. She offered plenty of time for assignments to be handed in and had a clear mapped out schedule for the semester which I also liked.
Susan never made anyone feel like they were asking a stupid question. I really respect that.
I liked how she didn't only teach us about essays but punctuation, and grammar.
I liked that Susan kept gave handouts and gave her students a schedule every two weeks to help keep the class and the students organized.
I like the way Ms. St John interacts with her students. In class, it seems more like a meeting with ideas exchanging amongst us students rather than just sitting in class being lectured.
I liked that she helped edit our essays. I disliked the peer edit reviews because some people don't do it.
i liked how she would explain everything well. i didn't like the amount of blogs and forums that were assigned on top of essays
i didn't
I like the way she helped me improve my writing ability.
I thought that Susan's class was hard for a English Composition course. However, her teachings has taught me a lot in improving my writing.
She did help with most of my work, but when I did ask questions it did not seem like she was to sure with what she was saying. It did not allow me to know what was required most times.
23. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Susan was an excellent teacher. I went into this class dreading it and now I am leaving without as much dread for writing. Susan helped me learn how to write(just get it on the paper) and the rest can be fixed.
It was a fun course and I learned a lot. :)
Susan St John was a very nice and understanding teacher.
Ms. St John makes her class feel at ease in the class room and she gives plenty of opportunities to better assignment scores.
Thank You!
she is a good teacher. very nice and helpful and understanding
shes ok
Susan always has a positive and pleasant demeanor that makes me feel comfortable and eager to learn.
I think that she needs to go a little more slow with the works she gives. I think its best that she should work one on one more with each student. She needs to explain everything out a little more specific.
24. Would you recommend this instructor to other students? Why or why not?
I would absolutely recommend Susan! She is a very fair teacher!
Yes, I would recommend Susan St. John because the course was both challenging and rewarding.
Yes she was very good at teaching
I would recommend Susan to other students because she grades fairly, is friendly, organized, and makes class easy to understand.
Yes. Ms. St John is a very fair instructor and her class is very fun and enlightening, as well as informative.
Yes, if they are hard workers she's the class to be in.
yes she is a cool teacher and i did a lot in her class
not really
Yes. Her passion for writing is highly evident.
Im very neutral of this because she is good at some points but at others not so much. I think she needs a little more work. She is a nice teacher but she needs to b a more specific.
25. Other comments:
I am grateful that Susan was my English 100 teacher. She made it more enjoyable. This was my first college class and the only one I took that wasn't online this semester. I was very nervous starting this semester, but after taking Susan's class, I realized there is nothing to worry about!
thanks for a good semester ^_^
her class is very stressful and overly packed full of stuff that makes it hard to keep up with other classes
The methods of instruction demonstrated by Susan St. John has allowed me to become a better overall student.

1. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Outside help and conferencing.
"Conferences"
I feel as though all the teacher meetings were most valuable for the course. Her feedback was helpful towards editing each of my drafts. The feedback also gave me useful tips on what to do when I begin on a new essay.
Learning how to properly evaluate sources.
I think that teacher conferences were very valuable. The one on one time with the teacher really helped me stay on the right track.
Thesis and Mla format helped to build my writing.
Research paper and grammar
My professor gave me really useful tips about how to improve my paper and she really made me think. I feel like I was forced to step up my game, and I learned a lot from that.
2. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Vocabulary wall.
Did not like the hotseats
I did not enjoy how much time we lost during presentations that we could've used for other important tasks in class.
The interview essay was least valuable to me.
Not too much I can think of, but possibly the need to be connected online in order to pass this class. That was somewhat difficult. Also I believe the very big one was having to pass the library test in order to pass the whole class. I personally believe that was completely unnecessary. Students should be held accountable for finding their own research their own way. I believe this aspect was a little extreme.
None
Hot seats, some of the readings I found irrelevent
Listening to other people's presentations weren't always that helpful of insightful, especially when the presenter was ill-prepared or too soft-spoken to understand. However, I did see a lot of value in reading the essays in the textbook. Although some of them didn't really make sense to me, it really opened my eyes about what can be done with writing.
3. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
Writing traits and usage of them.
First college english class....
how much I learned in english and pass on that knowledge to other people.
My classmates and instructor.
Having a teacher that actually worked with you and helped you get in assignments maybe a little late, but not completely destroying your grade.
Giving the course what I had and taking away from it some valuable things.
The friendly atmosphere, interesting subjects, nice proffesor
Like I said, I didn't know that I was capable of writing so much in such a small box of time, and I've really learned about dealing with stress and time management.
4. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
No complaints.

No suggestions, I really enjoyed her.
1. For Hotseat presentations, maybe it would be better if students had a guideline or rubric on the actual presentation of the hotseats. For example, to speak with a loud and clear voice would be worth a couple of points.

25. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Made time for them and checked up on student progress frequently.
Conferences
She individually talks with her students about problems they have in class and how they can improve themselves, not only for her class, but in general.
taking time to write individual notes on each paper and ways to revise them. providing a schedule of due dates and upcoming assignments.
By having one on one meetings.
By spending extra time to look over my work.
Always offering ways to make up for missed assignments, extra credit. She is very kind and always open to answer questions.
Professor St John made time outside of class to conference with students about their assignments. She suggested resources, carefully examined the content of each assignment, and was generally always available.
26. What did you especially like/dislike about the way the instructor taught this course?
She kept up with student progress.
what I liked about her class was all the people in it. She wasn't the only person who would help, but the students would also help each other. I also like all the feedback she gives, her feedback was very useful towards each of my essays
I felt like a lot of time was wasted just sitting around
She was very sympathetic and really tried to help us pass.
She was very on it.
Like- Very nice, good pace, lots of involvement out of every student. Dislike- Cant think of anything
I like that huge chunks of time were spent peer editing and conferencing one-on-one with the professor. It gave me a chance to form bonds with my classmates, and forced to me to scrutinize my own work carefully.
27. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

Nice teacher, helpful
She is an overall very good teacher.
Shes a great lady.
Very caring for her students! Its nice to see in a proffesor.
