13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?

Easy to Talk to, Very Intuitive, A kind heart, out of all the teachers I had That were female she would be the best out of the three. I bring up gender because A majority of My teachers are male. Mrs. Shook knows her material very well and is very good at explaining the materials in different ways to make sure everyone is grasping the concept. Her ability to explain things helps a lot for students who haven't had a science related class in a long time, and helps them get back in the swing of things. She can tell when students are not understanding a topic and doesn't have a problem explaining it again and answering students questions. Her background in the medical field makes it a big difference,she applies what she experienced in class to make it more undestandable. she is very encouraging and very helpful. i wish i was a better test taker so my grades reflected how much i learned from her. i think that she has helped me because i wont just try to get the grade, i'll try to understand why and everything. she can simplify a complex idea so everyone can understand it Lively lectures. Tone for the class is upbeat and kept students engaged. She takes time to explain concepts and answer questons. The course content covered a broad range. It was both challenging and interesting. Her work experience before she was a teacher help make this class real. And her personality makes you feel comfortable to participate in class and express different reasonings for things that are outside of the text. Overall knowledge of the subject area and hands on experience in the field. Giving us knowledge and feedback on everything we needed to know and had good organization skills for the class! She is very encouraging. She wants us to learn and be able to apply what we learn to everyday life. She is humorous and it makes the class fun. She is very enthusiastic about what she teaches.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

No complaints About her. I wish she can adjust the meeting hours and days for science of sleep class, for future students who are interested in taking the class. present an actual hard copy of a study guide. trying to remember everything from the notes is stressful and very frustrating when i remember the stories more than the other information. science of sleep was too easy I have come to dislike outline style of notes. I found it difficult to fill in needed detail, or to locate facts that I missed. I need repetition, and often the material was hit or miss one shot. How about creating a small text for the class? None! It is a strength of hers that she encourages class participation, however I personally got turned off by a few students who spoke about things that didn't necessarily pertain to the lecture. I realize that the dynamics of the class changes every semester, but if there are students who want to have discussions with her, then maybe they could do it after class, because I really wanted to hear her lectures. I felt that sometimes she may have rushed some lectures, because it is only a 50 min class and some students took up valuable time talking about other things.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

After every class session She takes the time to Remain patient and hear what every student's concerns are. SHE DOES THAT EVERY DAY AFTER CLASS. Mrs. Shook often asked students if things made sense. It sounds like something really small but it made the biggest difference for me in class because if I didn't understand a concept I was comfortable saying that I didn't understand and I knew she wouldn't have a problem explaining it to me. She told students her office hours and encouraged them to visit her during those hours to discuss any issues we were having with the material and even gave study tips. She always take time to answers all our concerns and questions she would offer as many opportunities and she was very flexible when it came to absences and understanding. Never discrediting an idea She is always tuning in to the class, and responding to student needs. By getting students involved in class dicussions and helping us now what to study for the exams. She shows a genuine concern for students because she really wants every student to succeed. She does this by informing everyone when things are due, she has mini-quizzes to try to teach students to study throughout the semester instead of cramming, and she gives ample opportunities to earn extra credit. When students are irresponsible and miss tests and homework assignments, she tries to work with them to get them on track. She always stays after class and talks with any student that has a concern. She also has office hours, but makes herself available at other times or by phone or email.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

Yes, Because she is really rational. I recommend Mrs. Shook to any student who asks for an idea of a class to take. Many students didn't know we offered something in science that would interest them like the science of sleep, but I'm glad word is finally getting out about her class. The class is interesting and she is very passionate about it and that comes across while she is teaching. Highly recommended! HECK YES! she is so helpful and easy to stay awake during a science of SLEEP class! Yes. She is down to earth and treats her students with respect. Yes. You can expect an interesting class, full of good, relevant information. Absolutely! Knows her stuff and the subject matter is so relevant to anyone's life as well as my major. Very interesting class. Yes Because she is a very good teacher that knows the course well and also she is one the most funest and great teachers to have! Yes, see responses above.

17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

She should be given the opportunity her own Class Dedicated to Neuro Science there should be a major dedicated in her honor. Mrs. Shook was a fabulous teacher. She cares so deeply for her students and has such a passion for her classes that it's really encouraging for students to see. She's compassionate and really knows her subject :) i wish she would teach more classes in different areas. I did not care for the online book. I found the graphics on it really annoying...brown ink overlying brown "wallpaper". I would have prefered a series of articles to read on the topics covered. Enjoyed this class to the fullest. Shes Awesome!! She is an awesome teacher and an awesome person.

I WISH HER THE BEST LIFE and SHE NEEDS MORE RECOGNITION AND FAME! I hope to have more professors like her to help students achieve their goals CURVE all the EXAMS!!! I'm not sure what I learned in this class and if it will be helpful to my future. Thanks for a great class!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?

She rocks! she is very knowledgable and kind. she shows compassion for her field and students She explained her goal for the students thoroughly in class and in the assignments. Most awesome teacher!!!! love her energy and passion or the material. great teaching style and really got me to think about things and really got me to learn about how our bodies work. she is just the best teacher!!!!!! Sheryl is such a nice and kind person who makes teaching fun, interesting, innovative, and just a good place for all students. I really felt that Prof. Shook was more concerned with us understanding the material instead of just 'teaching to the test.' She's put in a lot of time to make a custom course that was very effective for me personally. I really like the format she teaches in because all the assignments and quizzes keep me on track. Her lectures are great because she makes the most of the limited time by focusing on the more difficult concepts and it's always an open atmosphere where the students feel comfortable asking for clarification. attracts attention and keeps the students attention. very helpful and willing to help in anyway for her students. Well organized class knew material and was able to expand off the book when asked random questions This teacher is amazing. All the strengths u can find in what a teacher is suppose to be, she has it. Probably the best teacher I've ever had so far. If anyone can teach a difficult subject in a clear way, is an amazing teacher. Not only that but she has the experience and degree to back it up. She is very knowledgeable about the subject. A very charismatic person. Willing to help. Spoke in a language that everyone could understand. The encouragement to think for myself! Her niceness and availability to the students. She would go out of her way to help us. She uses projects to help students understand the material. She also uses diagrams and pictures and even you tube to get the information across. It is her dedication in helping her students understand the material. She is cool. Everything. She's kind, helpful, knowledgeable, fair, ect. Sheryl is an awesome lady. Two thumbs up, way up! Shook is upbeat. Her teaching skills are amazing. She likes to draw a visual image of concepts which really helps me understand much better. Sheryl is very approachable, nice, and extremely knowledgeable. The PBL teaching style was very unique and it helped us to learn the material better, applying it to situations we may encounter later in our lives. It taught us how to approach a problem and find out how to solve it. The assignments were lots of hard work, but it also was a great tool in helping us understand the material better. I feel more confident in Zoology and willing to further my studies rather intimidated by its complexity. Very encouraging and engaging. She has our schedule planned out from the very beginning. We knew exactly when things were due and how much they were worth. She made sure we understood the material and always suggested seeing her after class or another time if we needed clarification. Super Friendly, Super Organized, Super Knowledgeable about subject Matter Sheryl presented the material in a clear and effective way where her students can best understand the material. She was always so exciting to teach, and encouraged us to ask for help if we needed to. She knew the subject well! She is a great communicator and knew her subject very well. Super informational and fun!

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

Take away all of those slides I would suggest, she stay on one topic and not often say, "let me not go in depth in to this because its on the collaborative or we will discuss about it next week" because it confuses other students and myself. Absolutely nothing, she's seriously perfect! can't think of any study guides instead of just giving us the lecture notes None Her collaborate lecture online was amazing. However, some students need more explanation like me. I mean I like her lecture, but the collaborate was very helpful because i could replay it back over and over again until i got the material. So my suggestion is that maybe she can do more collaborate. Her class should be more like ask questions or discussions or maybe debate would be fun. There are no changes. I enjoyed the hybrid class. HOLY COW the exams were hard. The curve is the only way I am doing well in this class. None. None. Maybe have another day of lecture so we would have enough time to thoroughly go through the case study and get ample time for lecture. None. She is an awesome instructor :-) None I would suggest a more reliable office for her office hours. It was awkward sharing your concerns with students waiting for the next class in the same room. None she's the best

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

she was available at any time, she wanted to help the students learn. She replied immediately to any questions that the students had. And she understood, if your sick, she wouldn't want to you to come. Always asks if students need help and keeps in close contact. Prof. Shook was always available after class to go over any questions I had or to review tests. Whenever we worked in groups she'd go around and talk with each group personally to see if they needed help, if there was anything they didn't understand. I really really feel that Prof. Shook cares about her students and wants them to succeed in her class. Helpful energetic teaches well!! She's very approachable and mellow. She's very empathetic towards her students. She offered to let us talk to her about our career choices so she can give us advice because she has tremendous experience. she let's her students know she's available outside of class for help. she gave us breaks in class. she allows us to eat in class. her classroom feels more like a home type of environment. She took her time to teach and wanted to teach so that every single one of her students understood the material. She was available via after class or email. She is available after class to help the students. She takes the time to discuss any concerns. She encourages students to come see her when needed. Availability. She is always there to answer questions and push you along. She answers any questions during and after class. Or during her office hours. She was available through email and always willing to listen to our concerns after class or during office hours. She seemed empathetic and understood what we as students were probably going through. She would make accommodations to help us out when needed. Always making sure we understood the material and telling us to come see her if we didn't. Genuine concern and caring for students Sent sick student home and explained how they could make assignment up next time. She answered emails, stayed after class for questions She e-mailed students who weren't doing so well in her class and asked them about their progress. She also had one on one sessions with students in which she asked what was going on in our lives and gave us opportunities to redo our mistakes.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

YES!! She is awesome and this class was great Yes I would, because her teaching is straight to the point and exactly what you expect in the tests. She makes you learn on your own and with a group to find a diagnosis for each case study she assigned. OF COURSE! She's everything a student could ask for. Absolutely, this course was wonderful and I enjoyed taking it! I've taken a ZOO lecture with another professor that I felt was just awful - it was just straight out of the book lecturing for an hour and a half. Prof. Shook's class is NOT like that at all! It's very interactive and engaging - I absolutely recommend this class. YEAH! tries to make the material understandable for her students and relates it to us so we can understand and have a better chance of using the material in the real world. Yes absolutely see above yes because she's amazing YES! Super fun and easy class. Hybrid class that was to my advantage. Love the case studies. Yes if they can handle the hybrid technique of studying. It's alot of learning things on your own and understanding the concept. YES. She is fun and interesting and a GREAT teacher. yes, to students that are self motivated and able to learn fast. If you are a slower learner, take a 3 day a week class with someone else. Yes! Challenging, but one learns a lot from her Yes. She is cool. Yes. She's awesome and it is not often that you get a teacher that is so charismatic. She's a good, good teacher. Yes. Shes a great sweet caring teacher. She drives me to want to learn. yes, she's an excellent teacher. She really knew her stuff, was clear in her directions and explanations, open to questions, and listened to concerns. She knew how to create a safe and comfortable learning environment and supported us through out the semester. Absolutely! She makes the classes interesting. She breaks everything down so it's easier to understand. Detailed schedule and always willing to help if we have any difficulties. I will sing her praises from the roof tops of KCC. Definitely Yes Yes I would because she's a teacher who knows her material well and makes the course easier to understand. YES! I loved her class! She was very fun to learn from and unlike other classes, I enjoyed her class and wanted to go to class! Yes. She is an outstanding professor that shows great concern for her students and is very caring for other people as well. She is also very enthusiastic in teaching the subject. Of course!

17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

She is by far one of the top two teachers on my list. She is so kind and friendly and a joy to be around She's fun, but as usual when it comes to lecture, it does make you fall asleep. It happens though. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU! She was a joy to have, she has a wonderful personality, she's such a sweet person and excellent teacher and I hope she has a great summer :) she is not only intelligent but she's funny and creative and she looks good for a teacher. She knows the subject very well and show enthusiasm of the subject. She is very mellow. Doesn't get angry or upset very easily. Great job! I respect her passion in helping students succeed. Cool teacher. I enjoyed your class & I hope the best for you. Your such a sweet teacher :) Excellent teacher. I wish more teacher were like you :-) She is someone you would love to have as a friend. She is a great professor. Not only is she caring, she takes her time to teach difficult subjects in a layman's term. She is also great in communicating through email and responds promptly.

She quickly responded to any questions you had. helps students out any way possible. shows concerns for her students. very passionate teacher Very nice to students. Always thorough. Knows her subject area very well. her knowledge and kindness If you have any problems, she is right there to help. she doesn't make you feel like your stupid. She knew the subject well and was able to convey the material in an understandable way to all of her students. She made the material seem fun and interesting which then encouraged the students to engage and desire to learn more about the subject being taught. She also showed genuine concern for all of her students and wanted them to really understand the material. Enthusiastic; Knows subject very well and knows how to teach subject in a way that is easy to understand. Sheryl's major strengths as a teacher would be that she knows her material very well and she gets along with the students on a personal level as well as professional. From what I have seen she is well organized. She has a tablet she carries with her to class. From time to time I would see her writing during our lab. Because of this I can tell that she is continually monitoring herself and her class as an instructor. To me this is her greatest strength. Her awareness. One thing that always irritates me is when instructors take longer than 48 hours to respond to emails. This was not a problem with Sheryl Shook. She answered my emails very quickly. Sometimes within a couple of hours. So her communication was a strength. Able to relate and understand her students, and communicating the material effectively. As a pregnant student, for certain lab activities she made do an alternative assignment that wouldn't harm me because of the chemicals and smell that I may intake. she emailed really quick and always answered all our questions Push students to study hard to make sure they understand the course. she was available at any given time, and wanted to truly help us understand the material if we didn't She visits everyone during procedures to verify they understand. She always asked if anyone needed any further clarification on an experiment or a lecture she had given and was more than willing to stop the class to explain. She replied to emails regarding questions and concerns over her class very quickly--most often that same day! Does her best to make sure students are on the same page, answers all questions to best of her ability, is patient. She is always available to the students before and after class and she also responds to emails quickly. She made sure to answer all questions with clarity and ensure we understood the answers. During lab she was focused on safety including proper handling of materials and clean up. She prepared and delivered highly efficient instruction. She made it a point to notify us of things that are important to know for future reference, especially in related fields. I feel all of these things showed her concern for students and a degree of passion for instruction. Always offered her help. Always willing to stay later and quick to respond to emails. Goes over materials in class repeatedly when students ask her to and always asking if we need clarification. She would ask for feedback and quiz us so that we understood all that was being covered. Yes, because just like her lecture course, she is very thorough with what she expects her students to do for her class. yes because its she makes it fun Definitely! YES! she knew the subject very well! she also has a great and caring personality. She is great at explaining her lessons in a simplistic language while still withholding the important facts and she also encourages her students to perform critical thinking. She knows material and engages the entire class to partcipate in discussion. She is kind and really cares about each student. She also makes learning the material easy with fillable notes. She's good at keeping students involved during the lecture. Like it's not just her talking and writing stuff on the board, but she has random points in the lecture where we would have to discuss a question with a classmate or something. Then she would randomly call on someone, this made it so that we can't sleep in this class even though it's called The Science of Sleep. I also like that she is flexible and gives us 3 days to take the exam, some test I am ready for and some I need more time so it's good to have a window of days to take it. Professor Shook made sure that we understood the material that she was teaching unlike many other science classes. Shook as a teacher has notes pre-worked for you before you come to class so when you begin you feel really and not stressed that you wont be able to keep up with her lecture. She also allows time for you to ask lots of questions and she encourages lots of class participation. She gets the students to be interactive, always fair, makes things straightforward, and can relate to us students. Knowledgeable, considerate, fair, understanding, passionate, encouraging. She is a very driven teacher that inspires the class and gets us to do our very best. teaching, explaining, tutorial She is very nice and patient with all the students. She stays after class if anyone has questions and is very good at making examples that help to remember the material in class. She is very easy to get along with!!

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

we should have a review day before exams instead of just one student or few students staying back to ask questions because the questions they asked can be the other students who already left for their next class' questions. :( none at all! None. None. No changes. Even though sometimes she had to cancel class, it was still a very productive class, with videos and online assignments that we can do. Maybe if it's possible make the class longer so that future students can learn more things about sleep because it's so very interesting! none. Nothing much, it's a great class. Her not having her back injuries. Strong woman! none no need, all good I wouldn't want her to change at all!! :)

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

he lets us review our exam individual to see what questions we got wrong and what information we got wrong. she provided us multiple extra credit opportunities! She always opens up her schedule to meet with her students and helps them work out their issues. She was available after class to discuss any questions or concerns we had. She was also very understanding about circumstances. She showed her concern by giving us extra credit quizzes on laulima to help us study for the exams. She also was very helpful when class was done by staying a little after to explain things more if we had questions. She was very caring for other students but what really made it helpful and encouraging is that, Sheryl came to class and gave her best despite a spinal injury. You could tell she was in pain but she was very strong in letting her students know that she wouldn't give up on them. As a student i was encouraged to give my all and my best respect and attention to a teacher who is willing to go through so much trouble for me. On an academic note she responded very quickly to emails, sometimes in 15mins with a response. She was always willing to meet outside of class if needed. Much mahalo! She won't try to rush the material into our heads and tries to makes things as easy to understand as possible. Also responded in a timely manner, gave many opportunies for discussions during class, always willing to stay after class for help, always gave out reminders for anything upcoming. She would ask if there are any questions as well as emphasize that her help is always readily available. give time to us, She made sure everyone understood the material before moving on to the next lesson. If we had questions she would answer them with more depth. Also if we needed to miss class she would email us back to let us know what we missed.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

yes she is super nice and very kind. he cares about her students privacy and gives us other ways to get our point on our homeworks. forexample when my laulima wasnt functioning well, she lets me directly emailing to her. yes! she provided outline notes for each lesson and that was very beneficial in studying. I also liked the way she splits us up into different groups. I liked this because I got to make new friendships. Yes! She is an amazing teacher, who will make you curious about life and science, take her PHYL 160; it will open your mind! Most definitely because her classes are fun and educational. I would recommend her because it's an easy class as long as you come to class, pay attention, and do the few assignments that she assigns. It's also good that she presents the material in a way so that it's relevant to real life things and conditions. I would also recommend her for ZOOL classes because she gives extra credit and is good at explaining. Most definitely. Her lectures are great to listen to and you learn a lot from it. There isn't much homework and the test is time-manageable and the project was fun to do. I would suggest a lot of students take her class because she is very educated on her material as a sleep studies teacher. She also encourages group studies, group participation, and allows you to speak your mind and give any outside input that you could. Yes, she is fun, energetic, and treats the class fair. Definitely. She is very knowledgable in the science of sleep field. Very enthusiastic and passionate. She is fair. Has great time management. Always gave in class and email reminders of anything upcoming. Yes because she is a very fun interactive teacher that gets you involved. yes, the class is fun and i like the teacher I would definitely recommend her because she is the best health professor I had so far! She made learning very easy and fun! The class is very easy if you go to class and take notes because she basically tells you what you need to know for the test!

i really like how you teach. I may take your other class for next semester. keep doing what you're doing! She is an amazing teacher, who taught all her PHYL 160 class how to sleep properly. Outstanding. She is a very nice professor who is really open to her students. She is very helpful and makes the class go by very quickly. She is very kind and wonderful teacher. I wish I took her class earlier in my college career, as I'm transferring to a university i will be looking for her courses to see if i could take another class of hers, even if it's just for an elective. I appreciate the fact that she taught this semester with her back injuries. She really loves her job. Raise teacher salaries! I am so thankful that I had her as a professor because she made the overall learning experience enjoyable. she's a good teacher Thank you Sheryl for being such an amazing teacher! Even though she had major back pain she endured the pain to help us get through the lesson. She thought of the student first! She is truly the most awesome teacher ever!

Sometimes you move so fast that i cant catch up. I dont like how i went from an A to a C within two weeks. :( thanks for everything! I looked forward to coming to class everyday! I liked the activities in class like the game days for points or extra credit. I also like that we talked about lots of sleep disorders and the poster session was very interesting to see what other people in our class found out. She is a good professor and human. PASSIONATE ABOUT TEACHING!! She knew the subject well and related it to real life situations. Well knowledged, makes learning fun, bonds with students. Dr. Shook knows the subject of anatomy and physiology very well. She relates to her students and gives real life scenarios to help students learn. I feel she is the only professor that I had that actually do this. She knows the course material a lot and she always has examples for us students so learning the material is easier Sheryl's major strengths as a teacher was that she was able to present the material in a very simple and easy way for her students to understand. She also encouraged student participation during discussions and she was always in for her office hours to answer any questions. It was evident that she really cared about her students and their success in not only this course but in their later careers. She is a great teacher. She really encourages you to think outside the box. She really challenges you to think about things instead of just trying to memorize answers. I have always had trouble understanding Anatomy and Physiology but I learned so much by being in her class. She helps you to see the bigger picture of why things happen. She cares for the students, is willing to help and explain concepts if students do not understand. She is also willing to change her teaching methods/explanations of concepts to be more understandable to the class. Providing examples of how material we were learning applied in life. She is so nice & funny. She is also approachable and always wants you to ask her questions. If she doesn't know then she will find out for you. I would rate Mrs. Shook as one of my top 5 best instructors. She knows her subject area VERY well and she is very caring and understanding. She responds promptly to emails and is just overall a great teacher. So caring of all her students and understanding of the challenges students face in juggling school, work and life. She was a person as opposed to a teacher that draws a diving line between instructor and student. Professor Shook really knows A&P very well. She was very organized and interesting. She like sharing her past experiences while somehow relating it to our lecture. I have never met anyone like professor Shook before. She is the reason why I believe that KCC has the best professors! Her attitude is so infectious. She has a love for a&p (one of the most difficult subjects I have ever took). Yet she is able to break down the information to the level of a first-time learner.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

NOTHING, PERFECT TEACHER!! None I felt her exams were tricky and hard. If she makes it more outstanding it may be easier for her students. Just more review during class and maybe add another class day so more can be done No changes. I truly enjoyed every aspect of the class. None! I wish she had more courses to offer in different subjects! Professor Shook doesn't need to change because she was a great teacher!

ALWAYS THERE TO HELP!!! Bonds with students, responds to email, makes sure students understand. She would encourage her students to ask her and come see her if we had any questions. She answered all our questions that may be course related or some other topic Sheryl always asked after her lectures if any one needed any clarification on what she had just discussed. She also replied to every email with concern and did so within hours (at most a day). She makes sure all her students understands what they are doing. She makes herself available if you have any questions or if you need help understanding anything. She was willing to listen to concerns about assignments and tests and she went over answers that I got wrong on tests to make sure I understood the concepts. She called on people to answer questions during her lecture but DID NOT make you feel dumb if you didn't know the answer. She would help direct you to the answer. Also, she was accessible through email & is so courteous. She is so approachable and stays after class about an hour to answer any additional questions students may have or to give advice. She always took the time to answer everyone's questions. She was always willing to stay after class to answer anything that wasn't clear. She really took the time to know her students and answer questions about all topics. Since many are going into the medical field she offered her own experiences to help guide us instead of using just the class material. Put it all in context. Extra Credit, the reminding/informing emails, her attitude She wants the best for her students and was always there after class. She always made sure we knew that we could email her or see her if we had any concerns.

YES!!! HER PASSION RUBS OFF ON YOU! Yes. We learn so much during the semester but she covers the "more" important ones that we need to know. Yes, cool teacher, fun, well knowledged, caring and helpful. I would recomend this class because it makes the student think outside the box. Yes I would because she is a very supporting professor and her teaching style is different from any other. You can learn some things from her if you have some knowledge of this course. Yes she is a great teacher and very thorough of what we need to know for a test or anything Yes I definitely would because she is a wonderful teacher. Anatomy and Physiology can be a challenging subject but the right teacher can help you understand the material and why things happen the way they do. Absolutely! She is a great teacher! I learned a lot and it was relevant material. Professor Shook also is smart and has a lot of different experiences in the professional field, so is a good mentor for students. Of course! She makes a tough subject a little easier to learn. She has a lot of assignments but they are supplemental so that students really grasp the important factors of the subject. Yes I would. Although Mrs. Shook's class isn't the easiest, as long as you study all her material and everything she says to study, you will do fine. YES! One of the best teaches I have had. She is fair and understanding. Knows the material and isn't afraid to be real with her students. Of course i would because A&P is a very hard subject but with Professor Shook, i understood it a lot better. Yes. I believe that Sheryl is one of those rare professors that make you feel comfortable in talking with. She breaks down the barrier of just teacher and student and comes to you as a friend. PASSIONATE AND CARING Well knowlegded, fun, helpful, respectful she really knows the course material well She is very knowledgeable with all her experience and is very compassionate. She creates a very comfortable learning environment Smart. Great teaching method. Helpful. Not boring Sheryl Shook has one main strength and that is that she knows her subject and presents it clearly. I really enjoyed the class and was able to understand everything she was talking about! I like when she draws a picture of what we are learning because it helps more than anything. She knew where to locate certain parts on the models and explain parts on the histology that was confusing to the students. Sheryl would give the students background information about our labs before letting us start which was very helpful. Fun and interesting. Not boring and the class is always full of energy because of her attitude. she is a loving and caring teacher who is understanding when it comes to personal issues of the student. He depth of knowledge of anatomy and physiology made the course a lot easier to comprehend and she opens a large window for success in her class. Professor Shook is very knowledgeable, organized, nice, and caring. She encourages us to work with one another and help each other out and she makes lab fun! She knows what she's talking about and is really helpful. Explains subjects well, willing to answer questions.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

NOTHING, PERFECT PROFESSOR None not much changes maybe just more explaining for some of the material None No There is really no changes that have to be made for her. Sheryl doesn't need to make any changes. No changes because Professor Shook is a really good Professor nothing I like the way she teaches her class! She should be a little more clearer on what is going to be on the exams. Some of the things that were on the exam I didn't study at all.

ALWAYS THERE TO HELP makes sure students understand and are all caught up. Makes sure no one is left behind. she helped us in any way she could She is so easy to talk to and she respon quickly if contacted via email Very hands on and makes sure everyone understands She showed concern for our health when it came to dissecting days since there were a lot of chemicals in the classroom. Yes, Sheryl did show concern for her students. She would offer help and always reminded the class that she was just an email away. She listened to students problem and she shared some hints to memorize parts of the body. she is a loving and caring teacher who is understanding when it comes to personal issues of the student. very approachable and there when she is needed. Professor Shook is very easy to access and is very helpful. She emails me back as soon as possible and if we need help or have questions, she is always there. She is very helpful and answers questions you have for her. Available outside of class for questions, etc. She was willing to talk with students about all issues: class, life, career choices, etc.

YES!!! Yes, well knowledged, fun, chill, smart. yes she really knows her stuff Absolutely yes, nothing negative about the class experience Yes. She's one of the best zoology teachers I've taken. I would recommend Sheryl Shook to students because I think that they would love to have a teacher like her. She makes class enjoyable and the atmosphere that she sets allows the students to actually make friends, which I ended up doing and know my classmate/friend and I are planning things to do on winter break. Yes she is a very good professor. She knows the subject very well and helps students out if they don't grasp the concept. I would recommend Sheryl to other students because you can tell that she knows what she is talking about. Sheryl is very approachable, friendly, and is always finding ways to help the students understand the material. She is expert with her class.. Dr. Shook has all the strengths that an educator should have. She possesses the gift of inspiring her students to learn and grow. She is not only intelligent, but she can explain anything about zoology in a coherent manner. She is great at explaining concepts in a easier way for students to understand I think this class is a well balanced class and very helpful in learning and understanding the subject. Ms. Shook integrated many different ways for us to really think critically about case studies. Her major strengths as a teacher is being able to motivate and encourage her students to get excited about this subject area! The fact that she comes to class and is enthusiastic makes me stay interested. Her case studies that she hands out are also very fun to do and it helps us to get a brief idea of what working in the medicine field would be like. She is very clear and fair She is very sweet and caring person. She also knows the material really well. Extremely knowledgeable, Extremely fair and helpful. Terrific teacher. Friendly, easy to approach, considerate, caring, intelligent She is very invested in integrating as many learning styles as possible to learn the material. She was a very patient Teacher. By showing us some relevant examples with the topic. She was always very attentive to us and constantly checked if we were meeting our academic goals. She comes around to each group making sure that everyone is on the same page, and answers any questions that students have Yes, definitely showed concern for us especially because of the short semester. She showed concern by just checking up on us every class and reminding us that since this is the summer session we have to be extra motivated to do well. Dr. Shook would also send emails that say to let her know if your not meeting your expectations and goals in this class. She was very gracious and gave us opportunities to help us out. Even tho she wasn't feeling well she still made herself available and really did want us to do well She understands that there is so much to keep track of for the course so she is kind and flexible ex. she extended the exam date. Always accessable to us with our questions or concerns, she was always available, tried to give as much office hours as she could, emailed us promptly after exams. She was always open to explaining concepts after class and adapting test times to help with unique student scenarios. Nothing, She very understanding.

Yes..to gain more knowledge about the class. Yes, she is intelligent and she understands how to convey the knowledge that she has. Her class was enjoyable. I didn't have the urge to play hooky in her class since everyday was riveting. One of the best professors I've encountered. She also emanates positive feelings so being around her is pleasant. YES!!! because this course is a hybrid course, i feel i gathered more information from both learning things within the class and on my own time. Yes, definitely would recommend her to other students. Yes I definitely would recommend her to students because the set up of this hybrid course really worked for my style of learning. We get face-to-face interaction which is great yet this class also works for people who are more on the independent side of learning on their own. Yes. Her class is hard but she is very nice and concerned for her students Yes I have learned so much. Absolutely, a terrific teacher. Would reccomend. yes i would. Professor Shook is an excellent teacher! I wish I could have had her for all of my zoology courses. She knows this subject so well and explains it with such interest, a student would never be bored! She is very understanding of the students and very patient. She made each class interesting which encouraged me to learn. She taught us not only anatomy, but excellent pointers on how to study efficiently. She isn't a dull teacher, nor does she fill our class with busywork. Informative and highly knowledgeable. She is prepared to answer any question that you have.

She repeatedly said to us that she can reach us through her email and that she checks it often. Every class, she always tells the students that if anyone has questions, they can just come over and ask while we are working on our labs. She always asked if we had questions and she returned email quicky. She demonstrates her concern for students by asking if we have any questions for her and whether or not if the material is clear. She quizzes us during lab and she interacts with us to make sure we have everything down pat.

YES :) Yes, good teacher Yes, She is great teacher. Yes I'd recommend dr. Shook to students. She is direct, there are no hidden agendas. Always very clear on what is expected of us in order to get the best grade that we can achieve. She is an educator that truly wants to see her students succeed. If there were any questions, she'd be right there to answer them.

She's fun and knows her stuff. She was very knowledgable with the topic. She knows the subject very well. She had very clear objectives and never fell behind schedule. She also made the class participate as much as possible She really emphasized group and partner work. Her delivery of the material made is up-beat and cheery. She does her best not to make the class boring. She is great at what she does! She speaks on the level of her students to help the students understand the subject to the best of our ability. Dr.Shook is very kind and she always encourage student. She is patient and shows concern for her students.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

More activities if possible. None. Her class was always a fun class to get to. No changes. THe only thing that needed chaning was the time. 9am is too early. Class time was short. I really liked taking Exam 3 in the testing center. I think if all the exams were in the testing center, then we would have more class/lecture time. I don't think she should change much of anything, but she was really great at student activities and maybe could use more. Instead of hand writing, use power point or OHP.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

Available and flexible whenever. She would always email us back right away with our concerns and questions. She would email her students ahead of time about any changes in the schedule and other important things. She had office hours and anytime we had questions she would look them up and geet back to us as soon as possible. Professor Shook showed her concern for students by responding to students very promptly, and taking a personal interest in all her students. She extend exam period. And always answer student's question kindly. She communicates with students.

Yes!!! Great teacher in general. Yes I would, You can always ask her anything about the subject and she can either answer you on the spot or get back to you via email asap. Yes, because her methods of teaching is very helpful and easy to understand. 13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?

Awesome person/instructor. Everything was easy to follow and she explained things very well. I wish I could take her for all a&p classes!! Sheryl has a definitive insight into the material she teaches. She has a great way of taking the complex mechanics of the human body and integrating it into our day to day in way that doesn't overwhelm the student, but that encourages and promotes the pursuit of further in depth knowledge. Prof. Shook is very motivating, and easy to reach out to. It is difficult to assess Sheryl's strengths as a teacher because she is so good at all of them. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, presents course information in new formats that encourage learning and embodies what a great teacher should be like. She knows everything she teaches. Professor Shook is an intelligent and compassionate teacher. She treats her students like equals and she never makes you feel like you are unworthy of her time. She is a great motivator. She always cares and is always completely honest with us. She goes over and beyond what she needs to do for us to understand the material. Her PBL work is amazing, very productive, helped us learned the material better, got to use more then just the book to do it, real life problems. I recommend her to all my friends, I tell them if you really want to learn they should take it from her. One of the best professors I have ever met that made a huge impact in my life. Covered this all in the lecture part - fantastic in every way!!! She fosters an amazing and productive learning environment, her enthusiasm and manner of speaking is highly relatable. She's very energetic, is passionate and knowledgeable about the subject, and genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Super caring, super clear, super knowledgeable, and super organized. And while she's obviously incredibly intelligent, she grasps where students will have trouble with basic concepts and makes a point of covering them in a way that enables students to learn it on their own outside of class (ie asking leading or reasoning questions in the notes, suggesting where to make drawings and starting drawings on the board during lecture). Doesn't just take questions but invites them, which is really important in a culture like Hawaii's, and follows up when she says she will. Also doesn't try to minimize her role in the administrative aspects of the course like many instructors, but really goes the extra effort to make sure that everyone knows what's required, how to complete assignments, and what to expect. She really knows her material. Ms Shook's best qualities are her passion for the subject and her depth knowledge of the subject. Her prior experience of teaching this course meant that she already knew which areas would pose problems for students and so she made sure to go over these in class. I found this extremely helpful as I usually had problems in the areas that she went through. She also kept her teaching interesting by having mass class participation (eg show of hands if you think drinking ANP increases urine production). She really cares for her students and wants you to really understand it . She is good at going over the difficult parts of the chapters in the little class time that we have. She is also good at managing our class and organizing it so that we can maximize class time but still have a short break in between our 75 minute class. She comes off as a friend and instructor, rather than one or the other. She was very fair about how she values all her student's knowledge. she is very very awesome teacher. She alway patient to explain and help student who don't understand material/content. She takes care students and second language students. She doesn't like other teacher with racist. She reply e-mail very fast that within 24 hour, sometime within 1-2 hour. She knows all the concept and teaches them so that students will learn the materials and be able to comprehend the lesson. An open view on teaching looking for the most efficient way Other than knowing and presenting the material clearly, she would return emails and grade tests and assignments promptly. She is the kindest and most helpful teacher I have met in a long time. She is very clear in the way she explains subject matter and makes it VERY easy to understand complex concepts. She also gives us checklists and notes to follow which makes studying a LOT easier as a student. Because her class format was problem based learning, she would show us how concepts from the book were related to things that happen in real life and we could question and figure these things out on our own. She also stayed behind for at least a half an hour or more answering students' questions and making herself available to all of us. She also was willing to find a fair and reasonable solution for each problem I ran into and was VERY understanding of our situations (I am a student who also works part-full time and has a old/sick relative to help with).

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

none! everything was perfect Actually no major suggestions come to mind. For a mostly online course, such as this one, there is the perfect combination of self driven study, and lecture over the more difficult concepts. Nothing, continue the excellent job. None. Her course, though very difficult, is designed to provide the student with the information they need to succeed. The student only needs to spend the time learning the subject matter to excel in the class. Having assignments due at a specific time during the day makes it difficult to meet deadlines. It would be easier if they were due at 12am the day prior. Sometimes the notes didn't explain the abbreviations. no changes, just wished a lot of the classes were more like this or at least had professors that cared a little more like her NONE Didn't love the PBL set-up, but this is probably because our group went from 8 students down to only 4 who participated with any consistency. The exams weren't particularly challenging. Maybe it was just because the material was so well laid out and the important concepts reinforced in lecture, Collaborate, and the Case studies, but I wouldn't have minded more application questions on the test. Especially any that ask you to make a diagnosis on a patient based on signs and symptoms. I think students benefit from being forced to answer practice questions. There was a whole bank of questions in Wiley Plus that I used to test myself, as well as the end of chapter quizzes, and that was how I prepared for the exams. It seemed to work well. Maybe instead of the 5 question Chapter quizzes, make the quizzes longer or assign some of the Wiley Plus Chapter quizzes. It is more work, but being successful at most things requires more work rather than elss. None :) None not so much exams crammed into one semester. No changes. Just stay the same in teaching ways so that other students can enjoy your class while learning a lot of things that are really hard to remember. I personally hated doing PBL, although it probably helped some students, I hate interacting with others and that caused me extra stress, knowing that I'm not as bright as others.I felt like sitting out of every class to avoid being within the group. None. Don't think group learning should be a hybrid class but instead a lecture stylized class with group learning to reinforce what has been taught None. I took Z 141 PBL style class last term and the added lectures for difficult concepts really helped me. I'm not sure if I would've understood the concepts had it not been for the mini lectures. Having points added for the Wiley Plus assignments instead of extra credit is a great idea. It ensures that students go through Wiley Plus which is such a great resource. I never went through the collaborate blackboard last term because I had trouble installing Java. But I'm so glad I took the time to install it and go through it. Another great resource. I would like if she could put the due date of each assignment/quiz she has on the checklist (but we can also do that ourselves). I myself think that it would have been easier to take a paper exam since I am only really available to take an exam on that day, but I am not sure how other students feel about the open time. I also wish we went over more topics in-depth either through animations/lessons online (since it is a hybrid class) because the topics I really remember and feel like I know inside and out are the ones she explains/draws out in lecture.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

She was easily accessed outside of class, communicated well also. Sheryl is very careful in her teaching style, in that in her eyes there must be no student who is left confused or wanting. She takes the due diligence and makes herself as available as necessary for every student to understand the topic at hand. She always let us know that if we have some problems in our subject, we can always discuss that to her. Sheryl always takes the time to explain any subject a student has questions on. I personally have had Sheryl take the time to show me how to use the computer to submit homework online. She truly embodies what a true educator should be like. She always has the concerns of the student at the top of list of important things to remember. She's very very HELPFUL! she email us back asap.:))) She showed much concern by going over specific topics that she knew would be on the test that students were having a difficult time with. she always had office hours, emailed fast, we would talk after class all the time, she would really be concerned for us if we were sick or not feeling good. She's such a mom...its great Covered in lecture part - kind, compassionate, approachable, willing to answer questions but not feed us the answers-we are to try to think about it first, accommodating to life circumstances - just amazing overall. By being herself! If ever she knew she was going to be out of her office, she informed that class of an alternative time that they can go and meet up with her. She answered all questions thoroughly and on the rare occasion that she didn't know she made sure she found out and answers for next class. Also when we split into our groups to look at our case studies she would circulate in the classroom making sure that all the groups were on the right track and all their questions were answered. She was available after class for questions and was easily accessible through email. She was always available to us if we needed help with something. She helps after class if we don't understand something, which is really good with a lot of difficult material that we have to learn. She also checked to see what the alarm sound was outside so that in case there was a fire or emergency that we would be okay just staying there in the classroom. She curves our test so that even if we study all the time and can't remember everything we can still pass the class. She alway make sure student understand what she explain and encourage student to participate. And she motivate student have interest in learning and keep to work! She always thinks about the safety of her students. Was always open Always encouraging students to talk with her if the are not achieving their expected grade. She would offer some study strategies and when we were in PBL discussions, she listened in to each group and would clear up any concepts for the students. She is the kindest and most helpful teacher I have met in a long time. She is very clear in the way she explains subject matter and makes it VERY easy to understand complex concepts. 16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

YES! Awesome teacher, and she really helps you learn the course and material, unlike most teachers at KCC. This is very much the kind of course any student with a tight schedule could take. A&P is a very in demand class and this is the perfect mix of time saving and informative for most students. However, only students with a strong confidence in their own ability to drive themselves to learn need apply. Yes, I actually recommended her already to one of my friends for next semester, because Prof. Shook is a very good teacher. Yes, if the student is willing to study hard and know the subject matter being taught in intimate detail. If they are looking for an easy course to take I suggest they look elsewhere. She is fabulous as a teacher but the subject matter is difficult and her tests are very thought provoking. I DEFINITELY WOULD:))) Absolutely! She is a wonderful teacher and I am so happy that I had the experience to learn from her. Yes absolutely. oh yea definitely...only her and prof Patz seem to really care...no else gives. YES!! covered in lecture - her approach to teaching will TEACH you if you are open and ready to do some work. Her classes are not easy but that's what makes them amazing because the course content coupled with her teaching style - couldn't ask for anything better. 100%. Yes, she really pushes you to understand the material. Yes, because the way she teaches it is really good. She gives homework and this helps because it is another way to learn other than from just lectures and reading the book. She also makes us get into groups and do a case study in class and this helps us to really think and see how what we are learning actually relates to real life things. This is good because if it is not really related to real life things like diseases and conditions and such then I would probably not remember it as well. Yes. Because is good for student learn alot. She treat every student fairly and take her class is worth! Definitely. She's a wonderful teacher and students will enjoy learning about Anatomy and Physiology because she makes learning enjoyable, especially when dealing with a lot of science. Yes it is a straightforward class Yes I would. She really wants student to learn the material. You can really see it. If you just do the work and reading, you should be able to grasp a good amount of the concepts. But if you ever need help, she'll be there every step of the way. YES, although the exams are tough and there are quite a few assignments, once you get into the routine of the format of the class, the rest is fairly easy and you feel like you walk away from the class actually learning MORE than you would have from power point slides. She is really the nicest and most caring teacher I have met in a long time, and she is always willing to give so much of her time and energy to her students.

17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

Sheryl is by far one of the most caring professors I have had this semester. She not only cares about her students professionally, she is earnestly concerned about them as individuals. I really like the way she designed her class, even though the course is difficult, she make it easier. I respect Sheryl not only as a great educator but as an evolved person. She only has the best interests of the student in mind in everything she says and does. She is someone that anyone would be honored to call a friend and be proud to introduce to others. SHE IS AWESOME:))) She is a pleasure to work with. I appreciate all of her positivity and encouragement! I really enjoy her class. Too bad everyone else couldn't be like her. or at least had her mentality Just THANK YOU so much for being one of the best, TEACHERS on this campus - your love for your job, your subject matter, your care for your students--this goes a long way and I wish more carried this ethic. She has such a positive attitude and is able to explain things in such a clear way. She loves teaching her subject and you can see it in class. She was so easy to talk to and so kind. passionate about teaching She knows her stuff really well. Being available and able to explain concepts in a manner that is clear. Dynamic and exciting lecturer. Where do I begin. She is an awesome teacher and person all together and I actually really enjoyed her class. She was easy to get ahold of, made things very clear, and was a very fair grader. She also accepted any suggestions we had about whatever we thought wasn't working out too well (which really wasn't much). Not to mention, she really knows what she's teaching and it makes it easier to learn when the teacher isn't just reading out of the book. She is VERY knowledgable. She is willing to answer questions and to help in any way she can. She enjoys teaching and her classes reflect her enthusiasm. Sheryl had a way of explaining the subject matter to her students with such passion, and this passion was very effective in learning. Caring and understanding of the students needs and learning styles. Knowledge of the material She's a very good teacher. She makes students think and understand the concept of the class. She explain the materials well so that students will be able to learn and comprehend all the lessons. EVERYTHING!!! Knowledgable, kind, approachable, accommodating, enthusiastic, fair, motivator, much more. Shook knows her subject well! She is one of the best professor that KCC has ever had. I really like her class and if I need to take any more science classes that she will be teaching besides zoology, i'd take it because she's awesome. comunication with students, and presentation of material Knowledge of material as well as the ability to convey complex ideas to students. She was very knowledgeable in her subject and made sure to make things fun! She explains things thoroughly & she makes learning so fun and easy to understand! She is enthusiastic & know how to explain info to students in a way they can understand:) Her lectures are very informative and awesome. I really liked how she explained everything before actually doing a lab so we could understood what we were doing. She is a really great teacher and very understanding. Always willing to help you with whatever you may need.

more time to study slides when possible None. Absolutely none, her class was awesome as it was! I enjoyed her class, I wouldn't change anything. None. None. Her teaching method is very effective. I learned more from her compare to other teacher who teaches the same course. NOTHING!!! Nothing! NONE. I can't think of anything to change. It seemed like there were changes from last term, and it worked really well. Maybe just have the lab manual updated to the way her lab was run. N/a None :) I sportingly believe what she does makes her a great teacher!

gave multiple opportunities to make up exams She would always come and help us and ask us if there's anything that we didnt understand. Was there every step of the way to answer questions. She was very easy to access outside of the class and communicated very well. She also explained her ideas to an extent most teachers wouldn't. She encourages her students to ask questions and to visit her during her office hours. Sheryl was always available to her students during class and through email. Sheryl was more than willing to explain or go into further detail on subjects that seemed confusing to her students. Always there if we needed help. She's very caring. If a student is not feeling well, she always wants to make them feel comfortable. She's the only teacher I have who see the important of giving students a break during each class. What didn't she do?? She did everything, she said everything - one of the first things she said was that she was here for us, to help us succeed and that was her job and priority...I was sold. She was so patient and understanding, caring and compassionate - but at the same time, she held us accountable for our success and that was priceless. Yes! Yes, she understands when her students are sick and has emergencies. She let us turn in work late if we have a good reason. Like a doctor's note if sick. Shares tips on how to learn and memorize material that is presented Always asking students to stop by her office, stay after class, or walked around the class constantly answering questions if anyone needed help. She was available whenever students needed her, whether it be via email or in person. She always was available to make sure all students were where they needed to be in terms of understanding for each & every scheduled lab:) Always helpful and willing to meet up with students. In class she always made sure students understood the actually anatomy part before doing a dissection. She never left anyone behind which was great

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

I would highly recommend her. I had such a great time in her class and she makes things easy to understand and lets you go at your own pace. She doesn't rush anyone and makes sure procedures are clear. yes, learning was fun and creative Yes! She's super nice and easy to get along with! Teaching skills are great! Yes absolutely. Absolutely. She is an awesome teacher that runs an awesome course! Highly recommended. Yes because she is willing to help students and makes herself available for students who need help with understanding the material. I would recommend Sheryl, because she knows what she's talking about, and she definitely knows how to explain the subject material in an effective way. Yes, she cares enough to help students succeed in the class. I highly recommend to students Professor Shook because she's a great teacher. Her teaching method will help the students who is going to medical field understand the concept of the course. YES!!! YES AND YES!!! everything I said and more. This class was one of the hardest classes I think I would be taking because of the type of curriculum and I couldn't have asked for anything more...Sheryl Shook's approach to teaching is so excited and enthusiastic and she LOVES what she does!! That makes me follow suit. Take her class and you will learn tons. It is not an easy class and you have to work hard, but put that time and effort in, coupled with her numerous strengths as a teacher and motivator and you will learn more than you every thought....and this class as problem based learning is a FANTASTIC method of learning....I encourage more teachers because I think if more teachers would do this, it would also make THEM more accountable to their students. Yes! Knows subject well! yes, because she has everything that student would want to work it and do very good in class. yes, Dr. Shook is willing to share her knoledge on more that just the subject matter of the class and is able to display this information in ways that are easier to grasp and remember Yes. I enjoyed her class because she kept it interesting, and it was very informative. Great class!!! Yes! She made the lab experiments fun and explained everything really thoroughly and made sure that we understood exactly what we were doing. She is such a fantastic teacher and I loved her class. I learned a lot from her and she is really a great professor. She enjoys teaching and her she really tries to teach the material so it is easy to understand. She also cares about the environment and people and their well being. Great teacher! She's super cool and makes the class very enjoyable. Tons more...but I will try to keep it brief. Sheryl was key to keeping my head above water this semester because I had a lot going on....she was patient, kind, compassionate and accommodating...amazing really...BUT she still expected me to do my part and earn my grade...it's that separation that I appreciated..a teacher can be nice and friendly but turn that switch on to be the teacher and there was no favoritism, nothing of the sort...you were expected to do your part - that earned respect from me. I did poorly on a couple of assignments and yikes, my grade surprised me but I looked at what I did, saw where I erred, accepted my fault, wrote her about what I think I did wrong, fixed it and didn't make that mistake again...I LEARNED... Great, enthusiastic teacher She is an amazing teacher. Great idea to have students just do the work and show you. I know some students may not necessarily do the work, but it will show on the tests. But for those who actually do the work, it makes it more enjoyable and still have the concept taught. She's a super nice teacher, and she's very fair about her grading system. She knew how to make things fun and enjoyable in her class. I really enjoyed it :) I swear she is the BEST professor in KCC. She is very organized and is super nice to the students. If we need help finding something in anatomy, she gladly helps us and she teaches it to us so that we'll understand the structures better. She prepares us for our exams very well & nothing on the exam is a surprise because we went over every material in class. She is also a really funny and outgoing professor & I seriously can't ask for anything more from her. I had her as my lab professor my first year in college & I signed up for her class again this semester for my 142 lab. She is still my top 1 professor among all the professors I have had so far.

Professor Shook was not only an amazing instructor but also a great person. Often do you come across a teacher where you get to know her on a personal level and it's amazing to see how beautiful of a creature she is. She's incredibly smart and eloquent, which translated to an efficient lecture time as well easy going and calming which made the whole experience comfortable for me as a student. She always came to class prompt and ready to teach us. She was ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS, eager to get in front of class and lecture about the material and that showed that she wanted to be there. SHe knew what she was talking about and explained the material well. She was very on top and didn't waste our time by making sure we knew the material. I really liked the problem based learning! It got me into a group which formed a support group that really helped me get through class. It also encouraged me to get interested in the material and showed how it was applicable to life. very helpful to explain subject matter. tries very hard to help students. is clear on objective. continually learning. humble. Doesn't have a power trip that she is teacher and we are students who know nothing. She provides an atmosphere that feels safe to ask and/or question something without feeling embarrased. She also is open-minded to suggest and encourage each student to do their best and gives off good energy that made me feel like I wanted to stay after class to continue learning. Openness She knew the material very well. When she teaches, she makes it so easy to understand. She is always willing to help students and makes sure that everyone is on the same page. She makes students think for themselves. She is an amazing teacher. She knows what she is teaching and she always makes sure that we learn the most we can out of this class. Explains material well, compassionate, easy to go to help when I had questions, and showed concern for students. I knew that she wanted us to learn the material. She is the best teacher. Patient, compassionate, passionate about teaching. Mrs. Shook enjoys teaching and it shows. She gets very excited about it and is good about getting back to the class regarding any questions she may not know off the top of her head. She is great teacher and made this course easy to understand. She would teach hard topic explaining everything so simple that there is no way that anybody couldn't understand. always available for students for any help and teaches really good. Providing a tie in between lab and lecture and showing me how a disorder can effect the organ, organ system and organism. Knew the subject very well. she is a good teacher, she explain thing well, and make things easy to understand. I love this class. Sheryl definitely wanted each student to succeed. She has a very effective teaching style, by applying the class material to real life situations. She pointed out interesting facts and was so enthusiastic when teaching that it made me remember the material. She made Zoology, a stressful subject, fun and enjoyable. I recommend her to all my friends who need to take Zoology. DEFINITELY ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I"VE HAD BY FAR. She definitely knew what she was talking about. She really encouraged participation which required me to fully understand the material before I was capable to explain it to my classmates. She is extremely knowledgeable with the course and enthusiastic. She was an awesome teacher very caring and knowledgeable teacher. She is very clear and concise in each areas of the subject. Her compassion really shows if you are having non-school related issues and problems and is informative with updates and changes in the schedule Sheryl is a very upbeat person who stays focused on the things she has planned out for the day. She is more than willing to help any student, even if it's outside of her office hours. She is approachable and looks for ways that her students are engaged in the class. She is open to suggestions to improve the class constantly. Her genuine concern is clear and motivated me to do my best in the course because she did whatever she could for the betterment of the course.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

set up the PBL better Increase the points for PBL. I spent a lot of time on it but it wasn't even used on the tests. i liked that she made it so that we didn't have to teach the case study we did. It gave us a little more lecture time. for the first few classes provide more guidance on the PBL, many of us were lost on this class format. Nothing I can think of. none None Nothing really. I would like her to lecture more and reduce the case studies. I felt like the case studies were interesting but a waste of time because my knowledge on the fundamentals were fuzzy throughout the semester. As a result of the lack of lecturing, I feel that I have a lot of misconceptions. Continue doing PBL, it was great to put our knowledge to work! Try to do more lectures even if it has to be on collaborate. Maybe just to make more clear assignments at the beginning and put everything in syllabus. I hope that she will spend more time teaching us in class because she does it really well. ? More lecture... I love to do the case studies, but for more lecture time... case studies can be discussed out side of class with groups. Maybe be more clear as to where assignments are located online. I missed some assignments due to not knowing every folder. It was too bad our class was only once a week. I like her lectures. More lecture time. no hybrid Lecturing more during class instead of doing case studies. Although the case studies did pertain to the material in the textbook, it did not seem like there was a connection, but instead having us studying two different things and being tested on textbook material. Maybe have questions in the exam pertaining to the case study so we can apply what we have researched for our study questions. N/A shes is the best The only problem I had was an assignment deadline. 24hrz for a peer eval seemed a little rushed and something so simple was easily forgotten. None.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

She encouraged us to go talk to her whenever we felt like we needed help during her office hours and she also encouraged us to critically think as well as actively be apart of our education. She genuinely wanted all of us to succeed. She knows the material is very difficult to learn in the time we have. She showed that she cared by making sure we could learn it and helping us in anyway. She also always responded to emails within 24 hours. tries to help students She would ask how we were. She would also "talk story" with students and made me feel like she saw me as a person in addition to being a "student." yes she did always She always asked if anyone had questions and was always available outside of class. She empathized for students but kept it fair for the whole class. She is always very caring, and always wants to best from us. Always encouraging. She had outside office hours. Whenever I stayed to ask her questions, she was eager and willing to help. She would email you responses to questions, was very organized so we always knew our grade and where we stood in her class. Would stay after often to help students understand the material. Told us to visit informed us about changes in office hours. Her availability with the students and by responding to our email. She showed empathy when you had grades you didn't like so you knew when she was trying to help you, it was genuine. she make the easy way for us to learn the concept offered oppurtunities to improve grade and was always available to discuss any questionable material. When one person was confused or had a question about a certain subject, Sheryl would see if there was anyone else who was also confused and didnt ask. She was willing to stay after class to speak with students about the lecture/personal problems. She has endless patience even though she had to explain a few thing again and again in class. She sent out emails, reminding students of her office hours, and was always available to answer student's questions/concerns. she helped explained confusion See answer 13 Her willingness to offer guidance in her class and her own personal experience in this course. She asked for feedback about assignments and exams. She answered any questions or addressed all our concerns.

Of course, with all my reasons above. definitely! She's an awesome teacher that really helps us learn in all the ways possible. She shows how to connect the information and helps us develop into critical thinkers. yes will help students if they ask for help. I would recommend Sheryl Shook to students. She's a very nice lady. Yes. The workload is a good amount but it all relates to the material. It makes it more approachable than just reading our textbook. Yes, she knows her material. She is always enthusiastic about teaching and creates a positive learning atmosphere. yes love her yes, because she is very helpful and wants everyone to pass with an A. Easy to talk to and very understanding if you are confused with certain material. yes, because if you are looking to take anatomy for a medical course she shows you intermittently how the human body operates in a very interactive, fun and excitable way. This is a trick question. I would definitely recommend Sheryl to another student, but I don't know much people with this type of learning style. It is a little harder than normal to keep up with all the information, but that can't be blamed on the professor. YES! She is very knowledgeable and she makes the subject matter interesting. Her ability to break down very complex concepts with diagrams helps me get the bigger picture!

PBL was a fun way to learn and I think I actually learned and retained more. shes a free spirit that loves her class and she loves to teach! She really is a Wonderful teacher! Perfect professor with great concern for student learning outcome. very kind,soft spoken,teaches really well. She made Zoology, a stressful subject, fun and enjoyable. Great vibe overall, knowledgeable, and humble. She knew her subject material well. She also showed a lot of zeal for teaching. Knows her material, encouraged students to ask questions if they seemed puzzled, she was hands on as meaning she would get involved in disecting organs with us. She always had control over the class without having to be abrupt or intimidating. She does everything with a smile on her face. She's honest and trusting. She isn't a teacher who just knows the material well, she is a teacher who can actually present the material that she knows so well in a way that anyone can understand it. She makes it clear to understand from her lectures, and her teaching is much more effective than having us just read the book. She is probably the best instructor that i have had at KCC. She is extremely knowledgeable about the subject matter. She is very patient and explains complicated material in a way that is easily understandable to students. She also made the material interesting and relate-able to our lives. Very nice, organized, clear, and fair to all her students. Makes lab easier and helps us understand the material in a fun way. helpful & clear on directions she's very prompt about answering questions and emails knows the subject well, very humble, down to earth I feel that Sheryl always knew what she was talking about and was very knowledgeable. She always showed concern for her student, helping them in any way possible and always encouraging people to come in to talk to her for tips on how to study. I can see that Sheryl loves what she is doing and that makes the class enjoyable and challenging at the same time because I know that she just wants us to get the most out of this class and learn as much as we can. She really loves to teach. She has the passion to teach and to help out students. Compassionate, always available to help students, and genuinely cares about our learning process. She is one of the best teachers at KCC, very nice and very helpful Tieing organ systems in together and tieing it all in for the whole organism. Helps me to think about the WHOLE body. She is good at explaining things that can be very hard to understand. I also liked that she updates the grades on laulima after we have test or other things that are graded for lab. She is also really nice and friendly, which makes her easy to approach when we can't find something on the models in lab. Her strength is that she is not scary, but is fair and get's things done.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

None! She was just awesome! I would like to see a study guide for the tests which was a little more in depth. Nothing none set up the PBL better This doesn't really pertain to Sheryl, but in her class she does offer the option of doing service learning, and I felt that it wasn't really clear for me about what service learning was. It is my fault for not asking her directly to get more information, but it would have been nice to know about it. I have never heard of service learning so by the time I learned about what it was, the deadline for the sheet was due. But that really has nothing to do with Sheryl and her teaching because she is a wonderful teacher. makes students do less homework. Nothing. She is the best! No more testing in the testing center. I have a lot of questions but when I have one during a test I can't pause it to go ask her. Test in the classroom. I suggest that she teach more sections because this one was kind of hard to get into when registering. But I don't know if that's possible because one person can only teach so much classes.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

She was very approachable. Asked if they had questions, encouraged us to help one another when a student would come in late. She would always show her concern for her students by always asking if we all understood what she talked about or would take the time to break down something that she thought would be a little more difficult to understand. She always asked about what our opinions were, and how to imporve things. always there to help and explain things if needed. also, always walked around the room to see how we were doing. she'd make sure every question was answered and every confusion was cleared always responsive, available to students Always encouraging us to come in for help especially with studying for exams. I feel like she definitely has her students as one of her top priorities, because she is always trying to make time for us, always emails us back within 24 hours, and many other things. I really like that she makes sure that we understand the topic and always has us ask questions because she wants to make sure we know what she's talking about. She is available to help students during her office hours. She can also be contacted through email. Responding to our emails right away and always being available to help us. explains everything to students and helpful Several ways, she tried to come up with creative solutions to problems and help with study habits. She emailed me once when I didn't even ask her to, because I wasn't sure if I was passing or not after the second test that we took. It was surprising because it really shows that she wants us to pass the class even though it's super hard and a lot of memorization.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

I would most defiantly recommend her! She was always full of energy teaching. Yes, the above statements. Yes, she's an awesome teacher. It is easy to learn from her. Her methods teach her students to think independently. The experiments were fun and interesting. She's not intimidating. Yes, she is a great teacher and has a great knowledge for the subject and she is not a teacher that would make you feel intimidated to ask for help. ABSOLUTELY! Yes because she is a very outstanding teacher. The way she teaches make its a easy and fun way to enjoy lab. yes. she's a great teacher who really shows that she cares. yes, explains material to make sense. I would definitely Recommend Sheryl to other students. Her class is a bit challenging, but it is challenging in a good way. She is so knowledgeable in the subject that I feel she does an Great job when teaching to her students. She makes us want to learn more. Yes, definitely. She is very helpful and great teacher. Yes! Bc she is so caring and will help u no matter how lost u are in the course. absolutely yes! Yes, she has compassion, so rare for professors, and a nice breath of fresh air. Yes, she is good at explaining things in lab. She is also caring and knows that we are humans so that we need to take breaks in between, so she lets us take breaks in class when we want to. It's good that she lets us go at our own pace, or the pace of our table group.

She was a great professor. She's a great teacher and made learning fun. GREAT TEACHER! thank you I would just like to say that I think Sheryl is a Wonderful teacher. You can definitely see that she has a passion for teaching human physiology and she was an amazing teacher. keep up the good work Sheryl! I think she is my favorite professor here at KCC so far. I had transferred here just this fall but have been taking summer school here for the past 2 summers, so it was kind of different. It's good that she us very kind, clear, understanding, and friendly while still being able to teach and have really hard test. The test are really hard, but I think that's just because anatomy and physiology is hard in general because there is a lot of memorization and I suck at remembering a lot of things.

Sheryl is a down-to-earth, happy, and kind instructor. She has genuine concern for her students and really wants to be there to see you succeed. She is enthusiastic and fair, animated and genuinely interested in the topics she teaches. She is well-prepared for every lecture. One of her major strengths as a teacher is that she is able to teach a difficult course in a clear and effective way during a 6 week session. She also gives us study guides that are helpful and easy to follow. What makes her a cool teacher is that she gives breaks during class. She also posts up our grades on Laulima really quickly. She has knowledge of the subject area. Communicates with her student She understands the subject matter well and can go into extreme detail. Professor Shook really knows the material well. She is also a very interesting and caring teacher. She is very good at taking a difficult subject and breaking in down so that we can understand it. She was very patient and smiled all the time, even when she was tired one day. she also gave me very specific study guides that has proven to work and my grades did get better with each exam. Dr.Shook is the best teacher I've ever had. She has completely renewed my faith in teachers and my passion to learn. Her biggest strength is encouragement and inspiration for the subject matter and life. Dr. Shook's lectures were very well-organized. She complemented her lectures with real-life examples which helped me remember the material better. She encouraged personal interest in the subject and helped me make connections with the science courses that I have taken previously. She was always available to answer my questions and possesses a deep knowledge of the subject. She is extremely knowledgable about the material. She is genuinely concerned about our learning and is willing to do whatever possible to help us learn, including meeting with students after class to go over successful study techniques. Awesome instructor!!! Shook is a great teacher, one of the best I've had actually. She knows the material very well and makes things very interesting and encourages me more to pay attention and learn. She is very knowledgeable in this course. She makes sure that you understand the work. Also she explains concepts in ways to make us understand.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

Sometimes things felt rushed but I think this was due to the fact that this was a summer class and very accelerated. None... The class is a very difficult one Possibly, giving more extra credit or a bell curb for the final exam during the summer classes for students who may not have experience in some of the other requirements for the class such as bio, chemistry etc. None. None. I think it is necessary to have an understanding of the basic biological concepts before taking this course therefore it might be useful to require at least an introductory biology course as a prerequisite for this course. Not a thing. Maybe not have a cumulative exam at the end of a summer course because everything goes by really fast and when you are taking a lab class its hard to study for those exams as well.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

Sheryl always let us know she would be more than happy to sit with us during office hours and even more if our schedules did not line up with her specific office hours. If we had any questions, concerns, or needed help with how to do better on the next exam or review an old one she said she would be more than happy to meet with us. She always let us know she WANTED to help us. Made it easy to reach out for help. Oh and she learned all our names, how incredible is that? She encourage us to ask questions during or outside of class. When we have the feeling that we aren't achieving our goals, she gives us tips to help us study the material in a more effective and less stressful way. Her doors were always open for students to learn or show concern. She is available to us after class. She also takes all of our questions and looks for the answers for us. Professor Shook is very easy to talk to. She answered every question she knew and if she didn't know she will find out. She encouraged all of us to ask questions, even if they were silly, especially during the reproductive chapters When discussing the overall class averages for each test, she reached out to those students who were not reaching their goals and discussed different studying strategies to help them better their grade. I sought her advice and she assisted me in finding my personal educational pathway. Throughout the course Dr. Shook was always available to answer questions before or after class, during her office hours, or by appointment. She always offered help and counseling on how to improve my grade and was willing to share specific study strategies with those who were interested. Yes. She would stay after class if a student needed extra help on a subject and she also gave some effective ways to study anatomy and physiology. She returns emails within a 24 hour period. Since she didn't have much summer office hours, she let us know that she was available whenever we had time to meet her. She really wants her students to pass this course, so she gave tips on how to study for all exams.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

Yes, her class is not easy but if you're willing to put in the effort you will get a lot back. I would recommend her to other students because taking ZOOL 142 is a really difficult course and taking her class makes zoology more understandable and clear. Asking her for help is highly suggested and be sure to read the material and take the quiz before coming to class. It depends on your learning style but yes. Yes, she is a great teacher. Zoology is not an easy subject but professor Shook tries her best to help us understand. She really cares about the students learning something and making the subject more bearable. She is a wonderful teacher and I'm not just saying that. she is kind hearted and genuinely wants us to learn the material. Her way of teaching the material helped me to understand and therefore retain the information instead of just trying to memorize it for a test. Absolutely. Dr. Shook is the only teacher that I have ever encountered in my entire college education that really shows a passion to teach and a genuine concern for the student's success. Absolutely! She is a great teacher and truly cares for her students! She made even the most complicated material easy to understand and to remember. Yes, see above comment about her strengths. Yes, because she is a great teacher who has great enthusiasm for teaching. Definitely yes, she is always willing to help. If you are not doing well she will push you to study and help you understand concepts.

Please keep her, if you lost her to another school that would be unfortunate. She's a cool and helpful teacher. She is really kind and shows a passion for learning which is a great attribute to have as a teacher. She also knows the subject extremely. Very nice person and great teacher. I enjoyed the summer session with her! She is a very kind and genuine person, and I personally feel that her openness and gentle manner brings about an optimal learning environment where students are not afraid to ask questions and learn. Also, when a student asks a question that she does not know the answer to, she will go out of her way to find the answer and discuss it with class the following day. Keep her, and find more instructors like her! She is everything you would want a college professor to be. She loves surfing! lol She is one of the best teachers at KCC. She is not ONLY knowledgeable, but she also knows how to teach the course. Zoology 142 is hard enough, but after taking this course, I came out learning so much.

explains things very good!! Dr.Shook is the best teacher I've ever had. She has completely renewed my faith in teachers and my passion to learn. Her biggest strength is encouragement and inspiration for the subject matter and life. Dr. Shook was very knowledgeable about the subject. Patience with students who have a little difficulty understanding the subject matter. She is extremely knowledgable and genuinely concerned with her students' learning. In lab, she gives us the resources that could help us on the exam such as using the stemap site and using the models that are available at the STEM center. She gets back to students by email within a 24 hour period. She is very smart and knowledgeable and knows how to teach this difficult course. She really knows her material and presented the information in memorable way. She would put things in laymen's terms so that we could understand the material better. She also really cares about her students and responds quickly to our emails and questions.

she made sure that we understood everything and the reason why were doing the lab. When discussing the overall class averages for each test, she reached out to those students who felt that they were not reaching their goals and discussed different studying strategies to help them better their grade. I sought her advice and she assisted me in finding my personal educational pathway. She encouraged all of the students in the lab group to participate. Prompt email replies and answered all questions possible. Personally, she showed concern for me during my pregnancy by advising me to stay out of the lab during dissections due to potentially hazardous fumes (which I really appreciate, I hear some instructors say it is ok). Instead, I watched the dissection videos in STEM center, which although long and not the best picture quality, were actually very good resources due to the instructor in the videos going over every part in detail. She encourages us to ask questions and she also gives study tips when we have the feeling that we aren't achieving our goals. She returned emails right away. She let us know that she was available after class. She was always willing to help if you were struggling. She also made sure we were ALWAYS wearing shoes and ALWAYS had our safety goggles on. She makes sure that we are safe at all times. She was extremely understanding when I was late for an exam and even offered for me to test in another room if I wasn't finished with it yet. She also loves giving tips and sharing helpful study methods whenever possible.

yes i would because she is very nice and i was able to ask her questions. Absolutely. Dr.Shook is the only teacher that I have ever encountered in my entire college education that really shows a passion to teach and a genuine concern for the student's success. Yes Yes, she was very kind and helpful. Yes, she is exactly what you want from a professor. I would recommend her because she presents the material in a clear and effective way. Yes, she cares for her students. She really wants students to pass the course, so she will explain things in a way her students will understand OF course! She is a great teacher! She really tries to help you understand the material no matter how long it takes and isn't tricky with her exam questions. they are very straight forward and she will help you get an A if you are willing to put forth the effort!

She is a very kind and genuine person, and I personally feel that her openness and gentle manner brings about an optimal learning environment where students are not afraid to ask questions and learn. Also, when a student asks a question that she does not know the answer to, she will go out of her way to find the answer and discuss it with class the following day. Very good teacher! Do not change anything. She's great, what else can I say? Taking her lab class makes zoology less stressful, especially when we do experiments or dissections. She is such a great teacher. Flexible. And such diverse knowledge! -mainstream science and 'alternative' she gives out the material so you can be prepared for class. Sheryl has a great energy that makes her class go very quickly. It's nice to not be completely bored and still come away with all of the information you need for the day. Also, I loved the fact that if she didn't have an answer to a question, she would come to the next class with whatever she had found. I liked that she understood that everyone in the class comes from different learning backgrounds and she worked the class in a way that it was beneficial to all.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

How and why do you want to change perfection? To change anything about Sheryl as a teacher or as a person would only diminish her value to KCC and the students. None, really. Although perhaps she could be a little more strict about the attendance policy. Towards the middle of the semester, I noticed most of her students never attended any classes. While it probably reflects on their exam scores, I personally believe that class attendance is important in a student's learning process. Anything that will help prevent students from taking advantage of your kindness. no changes but i hope she keeps standard the high Definitely test reviews would be helpful. It's great the way it is. It's pretty amazing, and probably above and beyond, that we can ask follow up questions to lecture, and she'll have answers within the next two classes periods. Overall, I don't have any recommendations for her teaching style. For this specific course, however, I would have liked to have seen more of the biology of sleep. I know there is not a Zool 141/142 prereq, but it was difficult nailing down the biological concepts without looking at the basic anatomy and physiology behind them in detail. I suggest that she learns more about the topic. She knew the topic well but she didn't know many of the questions we had. On the plus side, though, she did look up the research and learned about what we asked and reported it back to us the next class.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

Sheryl makes it clear every class that she is available to anyone who needs personal help with the course. She thinks of ways to motivate the student to come to class and makes learning an enjoyable experience. She goes out of her way to make sure that any question a student has regarding the course material is answered by the next class if she is not sure about the answer. She was very understanding and approachable. Whenever students had a question she couldn't fully answer, she would always go out of her way to research it to share for the entire class during the next meeting. She was also very prompt in responding to e-mails, and was very compassionate. Making adjustments to test scores, encouraging students to see her during office hours for help, doing some research to help students understand the questions they had. "I know that we all come from different background and experience. Some people already have degrees in this subject while some of you just got out of high school." "I watched this video before coming to class because I don't want you guys to watch something that I've never watched before. Same thing with the plate and spoon experiment. I don't want to tell you guys to do something that I haven't tried myself." made materials always available for students, very communicative over email, empathetic to personal issues, held in-class review sessions, entertained questions and followed up She showed a lot of concern for students, always checking in and making class participation mandatory, I think these methods helped students that would normally just sit back and cruise participate. Follow-up. Check-in. Shaping the class somewhat according to composition of students and student interests. As above, Sheryl would often come to class with several answers to questions from the previous class. I've never seen a professor do that before. She was always very helpful with everything. She made sure that we knew that she was always available to help us and was pretty flexible with her schedule.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

I would heartily recommend Sheryl to any and everyone taking classes here at KCC. If she taught a different class, I would take that course. I make it a point to recommend the best things in life to friends and family. Sheryl is at the top of that list. I would highly recommend her to students. She's truly one of the greatest professors I have ever had the pleasure of meeting, in my 5 years studying at various universities. She's so caring of her students, and a great professor. Definitely. She is an ideal teacher. yes, very interesting course, very nice and caring teacher Yes, the course content is solid, and she really cares about what she teaches and the people she teaches it to. Definitely. I recommend both Sheryl and her class. It's been a superb experience of fascinating information and trivia. I would definitely recommend Sheryl to anybody looking to take her for any classes that she teaches. I would recommend her to students because she works with you and isn't uptight at all. If you have problems then she'll be able to help you and work around them, class wise.

Sheryl is that rare educator that has a genuine love for teaching. She is very knowledgeable, has the student's best interests in all she does, shows compassion and makes a student want to attend class. What ever she is getting paid is too little. She should be given a raise for the excellent job she is doing. Thank you so much again for such a great semester. I really enjoyed your class and it's been such a pleasure to have you. Thank you for being an excellent teacher. I will miss your class very much. Thank you, you were a great teacher :) She's a great professor. I feel privileged to have her as a prof. and be able to take one of her classes. I had a great time this semester. She's gotten me interested in sleep research as a field of study, something I hadn't even thought of before I took her class.

Sheryl is one of my nominations for teacher of the year award. She is someone who can teach any level of student and make that student want to learn. She is someone that a person would be very proud and fortunate to be able to call her a friend. This class is very timely. So many sectors of our society need this class - military, educational system, CFS, business managers, etc.

She is awesome!! She knows her stuff, and strives to help you to understand as well. She made the material very clear and easy to understand. I feel like she really cares about the students and she isn't there just because she has to. She is very knowledgeable in her subject of teaching and I just love the way she teaches. Sheryl Shook is a great professor. She is passionate about the material and knows the material very well. She presents the material in an organized and helpful way. I enjoy her class and like her as a person. She's very caring and compassionate towards students when it comes to their grade. They way her class is set up is also a very effective way for learning. Sheryl's major strengths as a teacher is her ability to make class interesting and to provide easy examples to give students a better understanding of the subject. Dr. Shook is an excellent teacher who uses various methods to help our understandin of Zoology. Very knowledgeable in the subject. She had a very well organized class, and was always on time. She provides a excellent atmosphere for her student to learn and challenges us in unique ways. Professor Shook knew the subject very well and when students asked any questions she would be able to answer them very clearly. If professor Shook did not have the answer to the student's question, she would research the material and answer their question the next class day. As a Teacher, As a Human Being Sheryl Shook is well rounded and very grounded. Zool is not an easy course but her calm and pleasant voice literally grounded the room. I never felt anxious, scared or fearful. I did not panick when I got a bad grade. Sheryl Shook was very vibrate, knowledgeable and incorporated other elements of zool not in the book that allowed for us as student's to thrive. I am so appreciative to of had her as a teacher this semester, she gives much hope and support in and out of the classroom. clarity, taking time to help She is so kind and caring!!! I love her! She creates an environment where people want to learn! She is super clear in her teaching style and she will go over it as many times as you need! Wow! Where do I begin? Professor Shook has only been at KCC for a year and there is so much positive feedback from everyone. She is the most caring professor that I have met. This is actually the first time I could honestly rate a professor with "strongly agree" throughout the whole evaluation. Shook is passionate not only about her subject but passionate about teaching her students. When there is a professor who cares so much about the students and is willing to hear them out, not only on the course but on a personal level it just makes it so much easier to learn and want to learn. She takes her time and really wants the students to succeed if they are willing to. Sheryl is really approachable,and she encourages class participation as well as getting comfortable with our peers. She knows her stuff & if there were any questions she was not to clear on the answer for, she'd research it and come back to the next class with an answer. She knew the subject very well. Sooooooo smart. Students would ask her different questions and she would have the answer. Wow! She knew the subject well, was very helpful and caring. Amazing instructor! Engaging, Fair, Genuine, Equally Interested in Subject Matter as well as student's well being and progress! Sheryl is fair, down to earth, and extremely clear in her explanation of the material. She is obviously extremely knowledgeable. She is funny and charismatic and a very effective lecturer.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

None NONE. None none I like the way she teaches. I wouldn't want her to change the way she teaches. None, great teacher None. Her professor shocks class is perfect. If I were to think of any changes I think it would be the scantrons. I was wondering if it is possible, if we could use both sides of the scantron instead of just one side. NONE!! The only change I suggest is to change the exams to 4 options as answers, instead of the 5...lol. No changes, she is an amazing teacher! None. She is doing a good job. During lecture to try slow down, sometimes she went to fast and it was hard to understand. None! More review opportunities would be helpful way to confirm comprehension before exams. A quiz in class versus (or in addition to) outside of class would perhaps be an extra credit option for students that always come to class and pay attention to what is shared. Maybe one point option if all 3 questions on quiz were answered correctly. Fun way to learn material and be slightly awarded if you are a consistent class goer. The online quizzes were tricky. It was hard to do a full chapter quiz before any of the material was reviewed in class. I would suggest that the quizzes should be due AFTER the first lecture on the chapter so that we, as students, are a little more familiar with the subject and terms (ie- epididymis versus ductus epididymis). None... She is fantastic.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

She always teaches with gusto, and will explain something in a way that anyone can understand it..she never makes you feel like you are not smart enough to learn the material. She always offered help to anyone who didn't understand the material. made sure all students knew the times and places to get out of class help Communication She just made sure that everyone understood and if they didn't then she would take the time to make sure that they did. She always answered our questions no matter how stupid they were and she helped me become excited about learning. She encouraged us to ask questions and invited us to see her during her office hours if we needed more help. She would listen to students when things happened outside of school that would make a student miss a test, or a situation like that. She also gives extra credit and more opportunities for students to bring up their grade. Sheryl showed concern for students by always asking if the students understood and by providing videos, pictures, and many examples to give students an easier understanding on the subject. Dr. Shook understands that this material takes time and reiterates if needed. She was always concerned with her students progress and any ways that she can improve upon herself as well as what she can do to assist her students. Professor shook has everyone in the class participate in her lectures and understands her students and how we as student learn. Professor Shook would always allow us to stop by her office to check on our exams. She would ask if there were questions just to make sure that every student understands the concept. Prof. Shook is there for all her student's, and actively participates in helping students before and after class and during her office hours and is supportive of her student's. This is the first teacher I have met that realy cares if her student's learn and is passionate about teaching. very helpful at all times, took time to explain things in more detail if needed She always took the time to talk with her students and make them feel like she cared. I will never forget how kind and concerned she is! She also tries to make it easy to learn by offering an outline of notes to use while note taking in class. This is extremely helpful to study for the exams! Please see above She would let us partner up & discuss a situation & figure out how our body works. She is very open to questions and will go at a perfect pace, so that students may absorb the material she is teaching. She would always stop to ask if anyone had any questions before she moved on to the next subject. If there were anyone that was not doing well on their exam or for the class, she makes her self available and help the student to see what they are doing wrong, pointers on how to study better. She offered a lot of help and if we had questions she could not answer, she would take the time to look for an answer outside of class Very Engaging and made sure each student has as fair chance to succeed! She responds immediately to students concerns via email, in class, and any suggestions given. She takes action and has always attended to every question a student has asked in class that she couldn't answer on the spot. Her attention to detail is incredible. Sheryl is the most humanistic professor I have ever had in college and she should be awarded for her excellence in her consideration and support for her students. She is concerned about your academic life as well as your personal life. She is compassionate and empathetic, with out being viewed as a push over.

The way her class is set up, with the chapter notes online, is very effective. It's very easy for students to just print out and keep up with the material learned in class. I also like how the tests are 2 or 3 chapters each. When the chapters are smaller for one test, it makes it easier for students to study and remember the material. Yes, She helps you understand the subject with ease. Dr. Shook is easy to talk to and she understands students. Yes. I defiantly would. I wish she was an instructor at kcc when I took this class the first time. She is an excellent professor and is always there for her students. YES! I definitely would, I actually recommended Professor Shook to my friends since they also need the course for the nursing program. I really enjoyed her class and I would like my friends to see that the subject is not as hard if they choose the right professor to teach. I really admire the way she teaches, she makes me understand the concepts really well. The lecture notes are very helpful and it highlights the materials that are necessary to learn. Shook is an example of how other professors should be. Students will exceed in her class. Yes! I would definitely recommend Sheryl. She teaches with enthusiasm, and is very clear on what materials we need to focus on. She makes the class fun with her humor as well! Definitely! She is an amazing teacher who knows her subject very well and interacts with her students too. She makes the subject very interesting...learned so much in this class. Not an easy subject, but she is very good in explaining everything. Yes, because she is helpful and you could actually learn a lot from her. Yes absolutely the best instructor i have had yet! I wished that the due date for the quizes were consistent. sometimes, it is due in the early morning, sometimes its due few hours before the class. absolutely. She makes the material approachable and not intimidating yet pushes you to work hard. She's always ALWAYS positive when you come to class. That's enough reason for any student to want to be in her class. Without a doubt. By far one of my favorite instructors ever!

Keep up the good work!! BEST teacher I've ever had in college. None I find her lectures very interesting and her teaching methods are very helpful for learning such detailed material. No comment Very open minded. A valuable asset to the college. One of the best instructor in the UH system. I think professor Shook always brought a positive atmosphere to the class and she teaches really great. one of the best teachers i've ever had You are my favorite teacher because you are so very kind! (and i have been in college for 5 years!) and i say teacher because you care about teaching and it shows! She is very fair and understanding. I've learned so much from taking her class, and she explains & breaks down materials so students have an easier time understanding it. She is one of those teachers that you do not forget in life. She is an amazing person with a very good personality. She was meant to be a teacher because she not only teaches her students but touches their life in so many different aspects. She is animated and excited about teaching! She is extremely available to students and tries very hard to make the material easier to understand. She answers all the student questions and will do the research if she doesn't know the answer. I really enjoyed this course She was so enthusiastic and such a positive person. I enjoyed her presence and I learned so much from her this semester. She was great at explaining the processes and concepts that we learned about in class whether it was before an experiment or about the histology and described very clearly whatever she needed to explain to her full potential. I had a much easier time understanding her explanations than my lecture professor. very knowledgeable in the subject matter and made it easy to understand I like the fact that she tests upon what is covered in class. Teaches very well and is understanding Ms. Shook has the ability to make her students think outside of the box. She represents the small percentage of teachers who actually come to class with real life experience towards her course topic; therefore, she has many perspectives about the information that she is providing her students. Her life experiences coupled with her ability to teach allows her students to feel like she is approachable and down to Earth. She is wise, sensitive towards the different learning styles of her students, and is fair in her grading. very smart ans nice teacher. she know how to explain things in a way that students will understand. She is honest and friendly. She is always willing to help students as much as she can. she was always willing to help us out whenever we were not completely sure what we were looking for She's very clear in instruction and shows that she really wants you to understand what you are going over. She is a lovely person inside & out. She cares & is concern with her students & always makes time for her student outside of lecture. She has been @ KCC for a short period, but she has bonded with her students naturally and many love her for her humility, yet very brilliant in her knowledge of science. I think Professor Shook knows her materials very well. She is supportive,intuitive, kind, responsible, respectful, helpful, honest, fair, likes to share her knowledge and educate anyone who listens. She knows so much about the subject and she explains it in a way that is easy to understand, yet doesn't take forever. She loves to teach, and is always open to answering questions, and making sure that we understand what is being taught. She doesn't make you feel silly or stupid for asking a question, and will take the time to work with you one on one if need be until you get it. She is very patient. She knows the material very well and easy to understand. always prepared, great at getting class involved in labs Shes fun and teaches REALLY well. I LOVE this teacher!!! So knowledgeable and young. I love her positive attitude I wish she taught all my classes! She deserves a raise! Cares about her students and knows the subject very well. She is also very enthusiastic and passionate about the subject which makes learning about it easier. Sheryl is a really intelligent and compassionate teacher and person. She is approachable. She makes medical science seem manageable and less intimidating; much more accessible.

Sometimes I had a tough time keeping up with the notes, but not often enough that it became a problem. n/a None none nothing! None none I cant think of one!! Nothing, she is perfect. I don't think there would be anything to change, I think her class is great. N/A None! She's awesome! nothing. None Nothing. Perfect course. none I have attention difficulties. Lab exacerbates it. So much is going on (to me). I wish I thought to ask her to cue me when to turn on my audio recorder. I had a hard time with the lecture part of lab. And/or I wish I thought to ask her for the lecture portion of lab (covering what will be on tests) to be also in print form.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

She answers all the questions and is truly a compassionate person. If a student were having personal issues she will work with them to ensure they finish the course material. She is really easy to talk to and never made me feel belittled no matter how petty my concerns or questions. Whenever her students had questions or concerns, she was always there to give them 100% of her energy and ability to answer their questions and was able to relate to her students so well. very approachable and answered questions efficiently Talking to them She made sure our safety at the lab, also she made sure that we understand the subjects well or not. she was always available for us to ask her questions and was always willing to clarify things to us She wouldn't let us leave lab until we completed an oral quiz about parts of different structures and that was so helpful for learning! Everything we needed was available and she was very accommodating! She cares about our rest and shes so sweet! She gives us plenty of time to complete things we need to unlike some professors that assign homework on Sat morning and expect it to be turned in on that Monday morning. She is completely fair! Always available & caring. Professor Shook would walk to our tables and ask if we have any questions or she would just see how we are doing on the dissection She afforded us every oportunity to get the best grades possible to achieve our goals. She also was the only one of my Teachers who shared her praires for the people of Japan and their relatives in class. She knows what we're all going through during the semester with school, work, and whatnot, so she was very good about making sure that she was always available for help whenever we needed it. She always wanted to make sure that we had all we could to help us through the class. She was always available to students. Always accomidating and willing to help in anyway possible. She had all the answers to everyone's questions and thoroughly explained things. She is always available to her students for extra help and always takes the time to listen to her students.... even though the discussion doesn't necessarily have to do with her class. She follows up with us. She check in and double checks with us. She's really great.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

Absolutely! I had a great time in her class. I have retained much more information in this class than ZOOL 141 because she makes it easy to remember. Yes I would absolutely recommend her to students because she is a very passionate and driven person and only wants the best for everyone. She is also very kind and cares about her students. She wasn't harsh and was always understanding. yes...great professor who makes the subject matter easier to understand Yes, because she helps you in any way she can. yes. im already recommending her to people. she is one of the best teachers i had in kcc. Definitely yes. She is the best teacher. If I had a chance to be a teacher, I would like to be like her. yes because she is very knowledge about in the subject that she is teaching YES YES YES!! Because I have never learned so much from anyone on a subject. I also haven't ever seen such a great example of a kind non judgmental person and I want to be more like her! Yes, most definately. Students will have to study hard, but she makes learning A & P very interesting. Students are welcome to share questions in class, and by doing so, we can also learn from each other as well. Yes, I would recommend her class, she guides us very well through experiments and she brings a very positive aura to the class. Yes, see #13-#15 Definitely! She knows so much about her subject, and teaches it in a way that helps you to actually learn it and not just memorize it. She is super nice, and caring, and wants to help us as much as possible to pass her class with the grade that you want. Couldn't ask for more in a teacher! Yes because after taking a course from Sheryl Shook, you'll definitely get the material down. Yes, great class, fair exams Yes. Shes a great teacher who shows concern for students Definitely. She is fantastic! She's a great person and is always very happy. Yes because it is easy to learn in her class. Absolutely. I do already. She makes science accessible and even fun and fascinating.

She is so fun and spunky and makes the Anatomy and Physiology exciting!! Thank you so much for all your time, energy, and effort this semester! I really appreciate all that you have done, I looked forward to coming to lab class every week. You will definitely be one of those professors that I will always remember! None :) She is the best! Shes wonderful! I really enjoy her class. I like how she would post grades right away after an exam. Prof Shook is everything I could ever want as an instructor. KCC is a better place for her being there. She is just plain awesome! One of the best teacher's I've had! Keep up the good work:) A+ professor I hear shes a pretty good surfer haha She's got an all-around great spirit and presentation about her. And great patience.

She is passionate about her students and she knows the subject matter! She's very passionate in what she teaches the students and really cares about the students if you ask for it. She's always willing to help and really feels sympathetic for the students. One of the best professors I've had so far. She knows a lot about the subject. Explains material thoroughly and clearly. Always made sure we did well and understood what we were learning. Sheryl was amazing! She was always willing to give us one on one time and really make sure we understood what we were being taught in lab that day or previous day. My table must have had a thousand questions and she was always there answering our questions and laughing with us. Helpful, Kind, Smart, Considerate, Fun! she knows her stuff!!!She cares about her students and wants the best for us. I love the way Sheryl SHook approaches teaching. She explains things really well, and treats students wonderfully. SHe's just such a joy to be around. Her class was very pleasant. Professor Shook knows the subject really well. Professor Shook teaches very clearly and very detailed to a point where I understand the concept. Her strengths her explaining the material. She never made anything confusing. Her other strengths her keeping up with the schedule. She knows her subject very well and is always teaches us in many different methods to help us learn. Awesome field expertise and good teaching methods for her first semester teaching. Her major strengths as a teacher was making the class a lot easier to understand. I couldn't have aasked for a better teacher:) She knew the subject she was teaching and only wanted the students to succeed. She's awesome! She explained all of the procedures very clearly, and it was very easy to understand her. She knew her subject very well, and was willing to help anyone with questions. Sheryl was easily approachable and always willing to help. She was quick to provide feedback and answer questions. She also took time to explain things thoroughly and in a way that we could all understand. I wish that all teachers could be like her! She was awesome!!! She is a very nice teacher. She encourage us to study the materials ahead of time. She's very approachable and great. I will take her class again in zool 142 lecture and lab. Dr. Shook always had her studentâ??s best interest at heart. I really enjoyed her class and was really able to understand the material she presented. She is one of the best professors I have come across in a long time. Enthusastic teachers are hard to come by! Very well rounded! She has the ability to reword her material in a way where "me" as a student understand it better.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

Keep everything the same. I like that you offer multiple choice on the exams. Don't switch to short answer questions please! No online exams please! None. No changes! Please stay the same! None. none No changes, she is great! Nothing keep up the good work Sheryl. None! But I wish she taught her specialty at KCC (Neuro) so more advanced students could learn from her. NONE! She needs to teach more classes! none. KEEP UP THE GREAT JOB! None

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

She was available and always asked if we needed anything. Helped clarify all the questions I've had, was accessible when I needed to meet outside of office hours, really specific to what was important and what to focus on for exams, and passionate about the class material. She asked if anyone didnt uderstand the material. She was always available thru email and after classes. She encouraged us to meet with her in her office hours if we needed her. She answered emails promptly and was always willing to give us her one on one time in class. Open for extra help, always available to answer questions. She always lisented to us what we had a problem and tried to fix it. She was always available for extra help, and always did the lab work with us in order to assist and explain things. If a student has any questions, she would go to the students right away and explain things really well. She showed concern by giving us extra credit opportunities. Also being able to be flexible. She was always there for us, sending us emails, walking around the classroom asking if we need help, and always making us take a break so we can regenerate. Took time to show us concepts we didn't understand and never complained if we still didn't understand it. Also, was accessible by email and phone outside of class. She put out an extra amount of effort to make us understand the material better. She'd walk around while we were studying and made sure everyone knew what to focus on. She would also come up with easier ways to help us remember things. She realy cares about her students and the topic she teaches. She graded all of her exams and assignments fairly, and she made sure that her students knew what was going to be on the exams, and how to study. She made herself available during class time for anyone with concerns. She was always quick to email us updates of any changes, or if she was going to be sick. She asked us if we have any concern or any questions. She made herself available for any concerns a student might have. An example-she offered study hints if the students were unhappy with a test grade to prepare for the next exam. She offered her time and any help to any student who wanted to succeed in this class. She came up to me after i took an exam and asked if I was able to concentrate okay because i was sitting next to a student who was a little disruptive and I could tell Mrs Shook was genuinely concerned. She responds to questions and concerns promptly.

Absolutely! She remembers what it is like to be a student! Yes, she is such a good professor. She really cares about her students. I hope I get her for lab next semester as well! I would highly recommend her. She's very nice and caring. I really enjoyed her class!! Yes. I love her! She is very patient, dedicated and committed to her students' learning. She makes lab so much fun and even showed up when she was very, very ill. She is just so pleasant to be around as well. Yes, fun, interesting, and not a stressful class under her. yes, she is the best teacher I have had at Kapiolani by far. Absolutely. She is a fantastic, fun teacher. Yes, I really enjoyed her class. She would make sure that you got to look over the mannequins that you need to prepare for the exams. If you have any questions, she would be available in class, if not you can always email her. Yes, because she is very understanding and if you are having a hard time she is willing to help you. of course, sheryl is one of the greatest teachers ever. Great teacher, thank you for bringing her to KCC! GREAT TEACHER =D One of the best additions to KCC this year! I know I learned alot this semester and plan to learn even more from her next semester since I have her for 2 more classes She is definately a subject matter expert. She is a great instructor. Even if she was new to this school, she caught on really fast. I can't wait to take 142! Even though I was the only male in her lab, she was fair and equal to me regardless. posted grades promptly and took our evaluations of the online exam to heart and seriously.
