13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
she is very nice
Professor Shook is knowledgable in the course material and is clear on what information is important to know.
She is a very good professor. She knows her material very well and answered all questions by students in a knowledgable manner to where we could remember it. She was very eager for all of her students to learn the material. She made the subject much more interesting.
Knowledge of subject area.
She is very knowledgeable in her subject that she teaches.
Amazing human being and very smart, organized and put together.
Knew her course and knew how to teach them
Dr. Shook's strengths are her firm grasp on the material, her ability to find ways for her students to learn the difficult material, and her holistic approach to teaching. She is also well organized and prompt in correcting and grading assignments and tests.
Showing concerns for her students and knowledge. She wants her students to do good at understanding the material.
Very passionate instructor and cares about her students. Very clear about what needs to be studied for exams.
Sheryl is an educator and encourages you to think critically about the content you are learning. She has an integrative teaching style for those interested in the health/medical field. She is a great resource for information surrounding the field.
Her knowledge
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
no more
N/A
Nothing, she is doing great.
Stop making exam questions into logic games. The subject matter is detailed enough that providing both All of the above and none of the above answers on complex test questions makes them nearly impossible to answer with confidence, because it is difficult to know whether I taught myself correctly before the test, and therefore incredibly difficult to rule out those answers while also trying to apply subject knowledge.
Nothing, really.
Do not do hybrid classes. It is not befitting of the subject.
Nothing to change
Nothing.
None
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
she give us study guide
Professor Shook it the time to help students when they were confused and if one or more students asked a similar question for a lab group she brought it to everyones attention so everyone would understand.
I left on a trip and she helped me to get ahead on my work without any hesitation. She guided me to getting my work done on time so that I could enjoy my trip as well as getting ahead. She even helped me to get ahead in my zoology 142 lab by letting me sit in with her. She also would never let a student leave without understanding something. If we had a question she would do her best to answer it to the best of her ability. She always reassured us that she would be there after class for any questions and made sure we knew her office hours or when she was available.
She was always available for students and answered students emails very promptly.
She will check up on us and talk to us.
She open her office for her students, she stayed after class if any students needed help
Answered are questions during class or outside.
Always available
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
yes, she nice
Yes, she is available for extra help and explains the material as she asks you questions about the material to make sure you understand
Yes, definitely. She is a very organized professor. She has the criteria set out for her students, which helps us to know what is expected. She also curves exam grades.
I think Dr. Shook has a great knowledge of her subject area and is a good teacher. The problem with her class is that she rarely actually teaches due to the massive amount of time given to the PBL, which I think is inappropriate at this level of instruction. As a beginner in A&P, I did not benefit from learning from my peers, who are also beginners, as I would have from learning from Dr. Shook. PBL would be useful for homework, or as a supplement, but it made it incredibly difficult to learn the very complex subject matter well enough for exams, because student's time was focused on the PBL questions, rather than covering the massive amount of material needed to pass an exam.
Yes! She is one of the best! She gives students a curve on the exams because the exams are always so very hard because it is a hardcore subject to learn and I really liked that.
Yes because she's is a good teacher but no because the hybrid class is not great.
Yes, class is tough but if you took time to study and go over materials you will pass
I would encourage those students who really want to learn the subject expressed in ZOOL, to take Dr. Shook's class.
Yes, you will learn a lot.
I recommend Sheryl's hybrid class to those who are self-motivate and have disciplined study habits. There are many assignments which test your work ethic and application of content you've learned. Sheryl's class is a very interactive learning experience which gives you the opportunity to be a communal thinker with a semester-long group which you do case studies of patient symptoms for diagnosis.
Yes
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
hi
she is charismatic
Keep doing what you are doing, you are awesome!
She is super cool and always available to help students however she can!
She's an amazing person, smart, kind, and understanding.
Shes great, easy to talk to and willing to get the grade you want
Thank you
18. Other comments:
Thanks for a good year!!
If I had wanted to teach myself A&P, I would have bought a book and stayed at home, not enrolled in a class and taken the time out of my personal life and finances to have an interaction with an instructor. The class seems like a wasted opportunity in some ways, because Dr. Shook knows the material and can explain it well, but the focus of the classes was never on her knowledge and ability to teach, but instead on students teaching themselves, which I did not think was an effective use of our time.
Your awesome.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She is such a good teacher. The whole package.
She has high energy and I could tell from day one that she loved teaching and loved the subject. Sheryl has a great personality that made class easier to be in.
Always available via email. When you need help she there for you
All around efficient within the subject matter and is able to teach the material with provided resources for later studying.
We need more teachers like her. I can tell she loves her job and loves the field that she is in. Very knowledgeable and has the ability to ensure other can comprehend as well.
Professor Shook is a great teacher and really cares for her students. She wants each and every student to do well in the class and is very understanding. She knows the subject but makes it interesting and easier for students to understand. She is very approachable as well.
not only does she know the material really well, she is very understanding of the students and wants them to succeed.
Sheryl makes all of her information very clear for her students. She takes the time I'm class and out to help people understand the concepts.she doesn't make it hard for people so they will in turn fail, she is a hard teacher however because she is organized and explains processes of the body clearly it's easy to grasp if you study and ask questions.
She knows a lot about zoology and was overall a great teacher.
Dr. Shook is very knowledgable and such a bright, lovely instructor. She genuinely cares for students and offers suggestions and challenges us to understand the material. She is an inspiration to students entering the medical field.
Uses real life situations in her lectures that are very helpful and more comprehending. Different from other professors who just read of the ppt.
great knowledge about the subject and truly helped students to understand the subject matter.
Knowledgable of subject. Quick responses.
Communication, organization, clarity, personality and knowledgeable.
Her passion for the subject and her students literally shines from her. She has an amazingly positive vibe and encourages her students to feel comfortable and participate.
She knows the course material perfectly, she always encourages participation, she's awesome, she's just the greatest teacher in the world!!!!! =)
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None
I wish that the study guide was a bit more detailed. The study notes are an outline that follows the book so I wish I could better pinpoint what needed to be studied under each topic.
Be more available other that after class.
Only more lecture time, but I did enjoy the hybrid class. Some chapters I could have used one more lecture--the digestive chapter was alot of information.
more lectures, more hand drawings. The case studies, though interesting, didn't help me at all learn the material. To me it was a lot of work for something that didn't help me prep for the material/test.
No changes. Everything was good!
None.
None. Best teacher I have had at UH

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She was always available after class to answer questions and emailed back in a timely manner. She is also very understanding and willing to work with you on anything that you may be struggling with. I liked that she was always positive and encouraging.
she showed great concern. She is very understanding
Yes through numerous emails and opportunity to learn better study habits.
She was really good at responding emails, and would take time to talk or follow up.
She is very accessible to students and willing to discuss any issues that you may encounter along the way. She's willing to work with you and help you throughout the class.
gave extra credit opportunities, was available after class
She kept us updated with our grades and had office hours if we needed help.
She offers students to ask questions if they do not understand the material. She stays after class if we have questions and she is very approachable.
Very accessible outside of class.
always answered questions with more detail and encouraged students to outspeak their answers.
Always there for you in person or email.
Ms. Shook continually inquired about students concerns and offered resolutions to any problems. Example:If students were not achieving their goals, she directed them on a path for success.
She always lets up know to come and meet with her if we have any questions or if something is unclear.
She didn't wanna just lecture us. She actually TAUGHT it to us!
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, this class is difficult but a good teacher can make a big difference! If I was in a different Zoo 142 class I think I would have dropped it and taken a W but I decided to stick it out because Sheryl was so helpful.
Yes, great teacher.
Yes, for sure
Yes I would. If a student took her class and looked at the situation as "I just need the credits" she would change that student and inspire more commitment to the subject and possibly encourage that student to really consider health professions. Professor Shook would open the student's eyes to the amazing world of health sciences.
Yes, she's one of the best teachers I've had the pleasure of taking here at KCC.
I have recommended her. However I always tell the student about the hybrid teaching style, as it isn't for everyone.
Yes. She is super nice and is very helpful.
Yes and I also hope to have another class with her in the future. She has a good class setup and helps us digest and understand the material.
No reason needed. She's just a very good teacher.
yes!
Yes, she is an excellent teacher and she will help you reach your goals in the class.
Yes, you will learn so much.
Yes, read above.
ABSOLUTELY! Sheryl is one of the most inspiring women I have ever met. She has done so much in her life and specifically the field of science that she motivates me to dream big. Hands down one of the most down to earth, impressive and friendly professors I have ever had.
YES YES YES YES YES! BEST ZOOL 142 TEACHER EVER!
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Thank you for you're time and great attitude!
She explains the subject to where I could understand and always encourage participations.
She's the best science teacher I've had in 5 years. I was motivated and always wanted to learn in her class. She really presented the material in a way that is fun and super interesting. Great educator.
I love her as a person and as a teacher. However, it was not the best learning atmosphere for me
Yes, she is very organized and positive, and cares about get students.
Nothing.
She is a wonderful professor.
Her teaching styles are awesome!!
I am so very thankful Dr.Shook was very understanding and a knowledgeable professor. I learned so much from this class and love the visual (drawing) lessons. These styles of teaching truly helped me learn as a student.
Awesome teacher. I learned so much
She is just an exceptional professor, would take her for any class.
I want to know if she can be my life mentor! She is truly amazing!
Thanks for everything =) wish I could've taken you for ZOOL 141 too
18. Other comments:
I learned thru this class that I need more lecture style teaching for intense subjects like A/P. I wish I could have done better in the class, but this was very difficult learning atmosphere for me. Although the case studies were interesting, I felt that it took away valuable lecture time and I didn't really learn anything from them.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Sheryl makes all of her information very clear for her students. She takes the time I'm class and out to help people understand the concepts.she doesn't make it hard for people so they will in turn fail, she is a hard teacher however because she is organized and explains processes of the body clearly it's easy to grasp if you study and ask questions.
knowledgable about the material and charismatic about teaching the material
She shows knowledge in her field and demonstrates concern for her students learning.
She is very understanding and willing to help you understand if there is a miscomumication.
Knowledge
Dr. Shook is very knowledgable and such a bright, lovely instructor. She genuinely cares for students and offers suggestions and challenges us to understand the material. She is an inspiration to students entering the medical field.
A very knowledgable, energetic and fun professor.
She knows her materials very well and she knows how to teach them in a way student can understand
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Ok so I mixed up my lab survey with my lecture survey. I do not believe you need to make any changes in lab the class was great. You also have a great technique for teaching in lecture also. But since I mixed them up, I am going to write under this one what I would of liked to have more of in lecture. Sorry if my mistake is confusing. In Lecture I would of liked to have a little more lecture time. I feel like we spent too much time on case studies and that we did not get enough teaching on some of the material. Also I would have liked for the lectures to be described a little bit differently. Most of the lectures you said basically the exact same thing as the study notes. When a topic is described to me in a few different ways it is easier to comprehend. The material you thought was difficult to grasp you talked about in a completely different manner than what was written.
Keep it up, I feel like I could've learned better with in-class exams as opposed to online exams held in the testing center, but this seemed like more of a departmental issue.

None.
No changes
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
By making all the information clear.
Yes she took the time to help students before and after class
She always suggested good study methods for memorizing histology and was very thoughtful to keep doors open for ventilation on dissection days!
She always make time for her students
Always available
She always put students health first during lab. She would advise us to take breaks so we didn't breath in too much of the formaldehyde. She explained things thoroughly and answered questions if we had any.
She would give some key points of what to study for the exams. If the students needed help, she would tell students that she is willing to help.
She offered student go over exams and go over them and explain why its wrong, she offered help after class and made appointments
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, because I learned so much from her.
yes, she is caring, teaches you what you need to know and explains the material in a clear way
I would recommend Ms. Shook to any ZOOL 142 student because she will go beyond the subject matter to make sure that we're learning all we can about human anatomy.
Yes because she is awesome and she makes lab fun and interesting not boring.
Absolutely
Yes, and I would also love to take another class with her. She made learning fun and made it easy to ask questions.
Yes, the class is fun and easy. You will learn a lot. Just don't take the class that starts at 8:00 if you're not a morning person.
Yes, because she know her material well and she willing to help if having trouble getting the grade you want
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She should teach 141 and micro, so many Assets would probably understand better.
Keep up the good teaching
She is a wonderful professor.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She makes me excited to be in class.
she is very passionate with science in general and was very in depth about learning how sleep affects your body. It really took an interest for me when learning that sleep can do a lot.
she clearly explains all the material that we need to know and is really engaging. A very charming lady.
She knows her stuff very well.
She knows super-well about her major and is good at teaching students the information more likely as telling interesting stories.
She has an abundance of knowledge and a great way to deliver information. She makes it easy to understand the course material but also interesting.
lectures
she is so smart and interesting!!!! great teacher!!!
She knows so much about everything we study. I don't think I have ever had a teacher who seemed to know everything, ever, about our subject.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
It's more for the course, I wish it was 2 days a week and longer classes. Ms. Shook's classes seem like they really get interesting to close to the end.
Nothing
nothing, hope the laptop is still kicking :)
I would suggest not having so many different lectures all into one test. I feel that was overwhelming for me and it had an impact on my grade. Too much information to process.
Maybe she can create more activities that are related to the course subject (although there are already some).
None.. Ask for a raise :)
I learned so much from her. I wish she taught more classes.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
VERY VERY much so. I'am in the Hawaii Air Guard + Work 60+ hours a week and Ms. Shook was very easy to contact and very understanding.
She would always show concern from emails and always answering questions about things related to sleep.
She makes it clear to us that anytime we need to talk to her or if we have any concerns, she's all ears. Being very knowledgeable in this field of science and how she wants to spread the word about sleep science itself its good to know that there are people out there who may not know you at all, but are still willing to inform you about things that you may or may not be aware of to begin with.
She was very down to earth and a very nice caring women. If you needed help I wasn't afraid to ask. She makes you feel comfortable.
She is really open-minded lady who makes students feel comfortable to ask questions, and she is really patient at answering you questions.
She always made sure we understood the material and reminded us of test, or any other things that were significant.
yes, she show alot of concern to her student when i was out and sick she makes me make up for the assignment and exam. very nice teacher
always stays after class to talk and answer questions, even out side of school subjects
She made sure we all understood everything we did in class. She taught us using many different approaches. She demonstrated respect for us all, as people, not just as students
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I already have. I dropped my A/P class this semester because I had a lot on my plate and had heard that she teaches that class so I'm looking to take it with her ASAP.
yesssss you will have a lot of fun learning about sleep
I would, she'll brighten up your mood with the simplest phrase that everyone here in Hawaii should know.. I hope. Refer to Other Comments :)
Yes because she is a very nice teacher who i learned about from. Also no because all of the test are extremely hard. Too much information to remember and process for one test. I was very overwhelmed and I stayed up late every night to study for my test but still I didn't do well.
Definitely yes. She is both an extraordinary teacher and a super-nice lady at the same time.
Yes.. Awesome class and a very interesting subject.
yes, she very fun but you need to be serious in her class to fully understand the science of sleep.
yes ofcourse
Yes. This was one of, if not the most fascinating class I have ever taken at KCC.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Sheryl Shook is by far the most realistic, caring, can knowledgeable instructor I've had.
n/a
Hope to see you around Dr. Shooks! Good Luck in your Sleep Science Lab that'll be opening sometime in the near future!
She is an awesome caring person who shows concerns for her students and she always provides a good atmosphere in her classroom.
This "sleep" class was really a great experience and helped me a lot.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
I love her as a teacher. She is always willingly to help students, she knows the material well, she communicates effectively with her students, she offers extra help after class, and her study guides are easy to read as well as understand. I loved that she applied the material to real world situations because it helped me understand the material better.
She knows her science very very well
very knowlegeable about subject.and presnts subjects in a very easy.way to learn.
Mrs. Shook is by far one of the best instructors I have ever had as a student. She always came to class with an aloha attitude and was always avaialable for help.
She knows her subject area too well that I couldn't fully understand and somewhat made it confusing.
Professor Shook is very knowledgeable in the subject being teach. If she wasn't sure about a question asked by a student, she would get back to them as soon as possible with an answer. Whenever students emailed her with questions or concerns, she emails back right after so students are right back on track with their studies. She provides clear instructions for each assignment assigned out. During the lectures, she provides pictures related to topic of that class period to serve as a visual aid for students to follow while she is explaining the chapter we are on.
Sheryl is very understanding about and unexpected problems and can't make certain due dates for exams and assignments. She is flexible if you speak with her and let her know your situation. Class always goes by fast. Never a drag or a waste of time. Every class is productive and can learn a lot.
Clear, specific, extremely organized, extremely skilled at breaking down complex concepts to understandable form, very mindful of student's busy schedule which manifests into her giving you only assignments and information you need and no more, and overall her ability to minimize barriers to learning and earning desired grade so that the only remaining factor between you and your A is your effort.
she really knows her material and easy to follow
She has a lot of resources available for her students because this is a hybrid class everything is done online and we only meet once a week so having these resources are helpful
She really enjoys sharing her experiences in the medical field which helps us understand certain tpics a little better
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
NONE
None
I'd suggest to extend the class hours for zoology classes for at least 15-30 more minutes because she went over our chapter way too fast.
No suggestions
None that I can think of.
nothing.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She communicated effectively and she always offered extra help. She took the time to talk to each student during class.
Office hours were always open, extra time to finish work
replied to eamils quickly, always answere questions in a way like She actually cared and really tried to answer it the best shecan.
Mrs. Shook made herself available for extra help at all times. She responded to emails promptly and always gives you that extra boost of confidence to succeed.
Whenever students email her with any questions, she emails back right after to clarify any misunderstanding and to help us move forward in our studies. She asks students if they have questions and she would answer all of them clearly and well detailed. She reminds students when exams are coming up and when assignments are due making sure they all know to complete it.
Sheryl always curved the exams which always bumped our exam scores a little. She always emailed us letting us know if we are struggling to come see her and she'll help.
She is also very compassionate and mindful of life's curve balls and will work with you to help you achieve despite your circumstances, granted you put in the effort to do your part.
she made sure every student was doing well. if they needed help she would always tell her students to email her. she is very understanding
She shows concern by working around students schedule if a student is sick she has make-up work that is equivalent to what the discussion was that day.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
YES, because she is an amazing teacher that you could learn a lot from. She introduces new learning techniques that help students learn how to study efficiently and effectively.
Yes
hell yeah!! she has a.awesome.attitude and.also a up beat energy.
I have already recommended her to several students and they have already signed up for her class. She is just an amazing instructor all around. I am walking away from her anatomy course with alot more confidence in myself then I have ever had. I got sick mid semester and was hospitalized but I bounced back fast and still kept up with my material. I will never forget the email I received from her that really just let me know that she noticed that I was a go getter and she actually noticed how well I was doing with the course even though I was sick and the last line of that emial that said " You Can Do Anything". Those words coming from her meant alot to me. I have all much respect for her and that made me feel so confident. She is just a great person. I only wish the world could be filled with more people like her.
Yes, I would recommend her class to other students. Professor Shook provided a good environment for her students to learn in. She uses case studies related to the chapters that are being discussed about in class. These case studies help you understand the chapter better and it gives us a chance to work on our critical thinking skills. She provides a mini lesson after giving us time to work on the case studies. During her lessons, she gives us a brief summary about the chapter being taught of the week and she goes over some things clearly and thoroughly if she feels like it is something we all should spend more time on.
She is an outstanding teacher. She is very knowledgeable in her area.
Definitely.
yes i would because she is very knowledgeable. She really knows her stuff and if she doesnt know the answer she will research it and let you know
yes, she is very knowledgeable about the subject
Yes I would, she is an awesome teacher
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She's always willing to listen and help us in whatever way to help improve on our exam scores. She's really organized and will always make time for us when we need help or didn't understand the subject. She always goes above and beyond for her students. She's very understand and flexible . She' know her subject very well. She's cares for her students. She's one of the best professor's i've ever had. The way she tough our class helps us learn, think, and understand the subject very well. I love how she has the collaboration online its like a lecture online where i can replay it as many times as I want to help me understand the topic. The structure she teaches helps me understand so easily coming from a background with zero knowledge in this subject.
She really does care for the well-being and success of her students. She always broke things down for us to understand and her grading is THE BEST EVER. She understands that we all have lives outside of school, and is very lenient when work is late or a student is absent. Sheryl is very fair and very caring of her students. I absolutely love her and the way she teaches!
She is super educated. Really knows and understands her material. Is a great teacher who is always concerned about the students success. Very kind woman.
She is one of the best professors I came across at KCC. Mrs Shook explains details well in her lectures. She goes beyond by making short videos, extra resources in laulima to help with our studies.
Sheryl is happy to explain concepts again when we don't understand them and finds ways to make the material engaging. She makes it a point to grade us fairly and to inform us promptly of our grades. Also, she is very personable and shows great concern and care for all her students.
Sheryl was very helpful if there was a subject you didn't understand and she would explain it throughly. She made class fun by showing animations on the projector about the lesson we were learning and she wasn't shy about talking about her personal life and adventures.
Very clear and wants us to learn.
Sheryl would give us advice for her class such as study strategies and how to create study habits. Also during lecture she would make us draw figures; she understands that looking at words all day wont interest us when it comes to studying for exams. She noticed that through her past years students were able to memorize the picture she drew during lecture rather than her study notes. For me i thought her study notes and her drawings were perfect during the test because i could picture in my head the notes or the drawings to help be think harder and eventually map out my answer in my head.
One of professor Shook's major strengths was her style of lecturing. I really like how she lectures by always drawing the pathways of what were learning in each chapter since Zool 142 is most likely about physiology.
Makes use of a broad range of materials and presents for different learning styles. Makes an attempt to make the material relevant, engaging. Finds ways to present complex concepts with clarity. Offers several ways to succeed in the class. Her expansive view of the educational process allows students to benefit from outside sources of learning. That makes for broader engagement by students and memorable experiences. She truly represents the best qualities of a teacher.
She is extremely passionate about what she is teaching. She wants her students to understand the material and is willing to help in any way to facilitate that.
She know the subject well and I liked how she had outlines because the book was very informative, but she stuck to certain things more.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
n/a
None.
none
No changes, I'm fine with what she has going as a teacher.
N/a
no
One change would be to kind of adjust her deadlines with the assignments and also the exams.
Maybe on the first day show the laulima page, and Wileyplus on a wall projector to demonstrate all the resources and where assignments are found. Some students had not seen some of the things there. I had taken Hybrid 141, but for others, it was a lot to take in. Just, personally, I don't like "outline speak"...While its nice to have notes to identify the "take-away" information, I prefer notes in sentence form.
Sometimes the due dates were not clear. I think it would have been more helpful if the due dates were on the unit check lists. Also I thought her collaborate sessions were great and I probably would have benefitted from more of those.
None
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
she take the time to talk to her students. She replies her emails really fast. She always stays after class to answer any questions or concerns for us. She's easy to talk to.
She always vibes out the class and notices if we need a break, or we are getting an overload of information. She allows us to take breaks in the middle of class and she stops if she things our mind is just wandering. The way she grades is very fair for every students circumstances as well. My Grandma passed away this semester and she extended my exams. She's just so nice, and so caring.
She is very flexible.
She makes herself available after class for students in need of help. She is easy to get in contact through email, she responds in an efficient manner.
She is always accessible after class to answer our questions. She is very understanding and sympathetic when we need help and tries to accommodate us to the best of her ability.
She would ask questions after she spoke about her lesson for the day to see if we understand the lesson she taught about. Sheryl would always reminds us whats the due dates of our assignments and give us helpful hints on upcoming exams.
Provided us with office hours or time after class if needed.
She was really fast with emailing and she wasn't afraid to answer any questions. She also enjoys being stopped during her lectures to answer any question we have for her. She likes to make sure that every student is on the right tract and makes sure that each student has the ability to understand and relate to each concept of the book.
Whenever a student was struggling especially with their grades for an exam or their overall grades, she helps them by telling her students ways on improving
Constantly: by listening, being accessible, demonstrating empathy. She is very inclusive, making an effort to reach out to each student and encouraging interactions among classmates.
She was available after class for questions. She also replied very promptly to questions and concerns via email. And during lecture she frequently asked if there were any confusions about the material.
She responded quickly to emails and always open to help.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, because she is very knowledgeable about her subject and explains things very clearly so you could understand.
Heck yes, I would definitely recommend her to students! She's just Superwoman! She's smart, funny, and very caring!
Yes!!
I would highly recommend her classes to students who really wants to learn in Zool lecture.
Absolutely, for all the above reasons. This semester would have been much less pleasant had I not chosen to take Sheryl's class.
Yes, i recommend her to students because she has that natural way of teaching that makes students hooked on her and makes the student learned more and more.
Yes I would recommend her because she knew the subject and was willing to help in any way necessary.
yes, she's perfect. she gives you advice about school, her advice about how to study also helped me succeed in my other classes as well. she is also great and explain certain concepts because she gives us examples that help us understand the subject very well. I really enjoyed the fact that she is very bubbly, so she doesn't sound like a boring monotone teacher just trying to get through work. I can tell she enjoys the subject she teaches and watching her student achieve.
I would definitely recommend professor Patz, because even though it is a hybrid class, you can really learn and understand the concepts by the way this class is fully set up. Sometimes it can be good to learn things on your own because it helps you gain experience of being independent and learning things by yourself.
Yes. One of our best instructors.
I would recommend her to students that want to learn. She is not an easy A, she will make you work for your grade but does offer extra credit and curves the exam scores, which is extremely helpful.
Yes because she's very organized and she knew her subject well.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
You're the best! You've made me want to try and learn more about the medical field.. You've inspire me to never give up. I wish all of my professors in the future are just like you very easy going, understanding, caring, supportive, and smart. Thank you for all you've done.
She is very understanding and have great compassion for her students. She is the greatest.....
She is a well rounded person who is nice and very helpful if you need help understanding her lessons.

PERFECT
I just would like to thank professor Patz for a great semester, I may have not fulfill my major goal of this class (to get an A grade), but hopefully if I do good in the final my second goal (to get a better grade from my first attempt for this class)
Mahalo, for the class, and for your many kindnesses, personally.
I love her enthusiasm and spunk. Her class was fun and I learned a lot over this past semester. Mahlo!

She definitely knew her material!!! Her enthusiasm for zoology was contagious and she made it a joy to come to class!! I loved that she was open with her students, telling us personal information that showed students how dedicated she is to us.
All around she knew her material. She's fantastic teacher that made us want to learn. She's very encouraging and fun to learn. Her lab course makes it easier to understand the subject very well and we can visually see everything clearly.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She sent all of the exams to the windward community college testing center so I didn't have to drive from my house on the windward side all the way to kcc on exam days. She took the time to learn each of our names from the very first day of class even though we only met once a week.
she always takes extra time to explain and go over the topic if we don't understand or she will give us good examples or give us pointers to remember it.
Always available to discuss any problems we had with the subject.
She puts all kinds of efforts to help her students.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Offers plenty of help, much resources, great office hours, and is super fun!
Her calm, loving, and intelligent personality makes her a great teacher. She creates this relaxed environment where students are not afraid to make mistakes, and encourages people to think for themselves. She also is creative and makes the class as engaging as possible while still being good at time management and still have time for breaks mid class!
Professor Shook was able to relate to students, making them feel comfortable enough to open up and ask questions in class. She also listened to students and was able to be flexible in her course schedule.
She caters to her students and is very passionate about teaching. She is committed to making sure her students are understanding the material.
Sheryl is a kind, passionate and highly enthusiastic teacher that cares about her job and success of her students.
Her knowledge and helpfulness.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
NOTHING, your the best teacher I've had by far.
I think she might want to change her due dates. Instead of saying that a test is due the morning before we met for class, I think it would have been better to move the due date/time to latest time someone could possible take the test at the testing center. I also feel that homework assignments that are due in the afternoon/morning should actually be due 11:59 pm the night before. I think most students look at what day something is due and assume they have that day to work on it- which would not work out so well for some assignments...However, this is not necessary because it teaches attention to detail, and responsibility.
None!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Shes the most caring teachers who offers sooo much help. Hands down the best A and P teacher/ regular teacher at KCC!!
When students asked for extensions on things she would actually consider the circumstances before giving an answer. She always answers emails, and makes time for her students. Also she just has a caring personality that is very understanding.
Professor Shook took the first few minutes of each class period to go over what students missed on the case studies. She also took the time to look over previous courses and see general areas that students missed, making sure to cover them in greater detail during class.
It was very easy to communicate with Professor Shook. She also replied to any emails immediately.
She offered to stay late after class to answer questions. She was very prompted in returning emails.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, because she makes learning fun and she has such a great enthusiasm to teach. She wants her students to pass and she shows it everyday. Never a dull moment with her.
Yes, I learned a lot from her class. I put in a lot of work for the class, but it all seemed fair and achievable.
I would recommend professor Shook to students because she is able to present A&P in a knowledgable way, engaging students and promoting them to want to learn more.
Absolutely, I had so much fun in the class and I turned a lot.
Absolutely I would recommend Sheryl to other students. Her teaching style is very effective and she cares about her students and is willing to help you achieve your goals in class.
Yes because she knows what she is teaching and always wants to help you out when you need it.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Thank you for blessing us with your awesome teaching skills and techniques. Really transformed my study habits and provided me with such a great/fun A and P course.
Sheryl Shook is an amazing person, and educator and this school is lucky to have her.
One of the best professors I've ever had in my college career.
She is the best teacher I had hands down!!
Thanks for a great summer session, I really enjoyed your classes and getting to know you! :)

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Sheryl is a kind, enthusiastic, and caring teacher. She is passionate about her job and about her students.
She explains the lab before actually doing the lab and she tells us what will be I. The exams so there are no surprises.
She has an amazing energy and is really concerned with the students ability to learn the material and learn the material well. She makes learning the subject matter interesting and fun. I liked that she did the mini lectures before the lab so that we have a better understanding of the material.
Her knowledge and doing things in an effective manner
Her teaching technique
OMG Professor Shook is the most bomb teacher ever! She lays everything out for you, makes learning fun, and teaches in a way where concepts are easily understandable. Best A and P teacher by far.
Made the material easy to understand
She is very passionate about teaching and always encourages everyone to do the best they can. She is also very knowledgeable in her subject. Responses to e-mails are also very prompt and clarification on any questions are also answered right away.
Invovled and caring about teaching students the material. Takes it upon herself if students score poorly.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Nothing, Her class assignments, tests, and activities are very rewarding
The wiley plus assignments were a bit much. I didn't like that it took so long just to fill out the questions. Watching the animations did help though.
None, she is a great teacher.
NOTHING, you are da beez neez!
No changes, the class is taught well.
None.
Perhaps giving students too many chances as she is very understanding. Some took advantage of it, I think. But at least she doesnt let the few spread to how she feels about the others.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She would stay late after class to answer any questions, return emails promptly, if she didn't know an answer about something, she would email yoou or let you know next class meeting.
She wanted everyone to pass and was concerned when students were absent.
She took the time to answer all of our questions in and outside of class. She also made sure that if she mentioned something that was incorrect in class that everyone knew the correction. She also consistently asked if we understood the material and asked for feedback.
Always available for students, quick with emails, and offers wide open office hours.
She made sure students understand the concepts by thoroughly explaining it
She will always answer questions in class, go over anything that is not clear, and is always open for 1 on 1 interaction for any other clarifications.
took time to meet every single student that wanted to sit and reveiw the material with her on the test. Always followed up a students question many times even when the asker forgot they asked themselves.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Absolutely, I would recommend Sheryl to other students. A&P II is general is a hard class, but she presents the material in a way that makes you want to learn as much as you can.
Yes she is a great teacher who makes the class fun and easy to learn
Totally! Her teaching style ROCKS!!!! She is not only very clear on the subject, but she teaches it in a understandable fashion.
Yes, because she is a very knowledgeable teacher that has a great personality and ability to pass along the information to the students.
Yes because she knows the material and is very helpful.
YES! she's just the coolest, and teaches in a way where complex concepts can easily be learned. Obviously you need to study, but she is generous with help, questions, and advice.
Yes, she is very good at explaining and teaching difficult concepts.
Yes because she is an excellent instructor who cares about her students and makes the course easy with clear objectives and goals.
Very highly, because she cares about teaching AND that the students understand the material. Looks at it from a teacher centric view in that if they arent getting good grades, she is at fault not the student. Of course this means that all students are trying their hardest which I know for a fact is not the case, in my study group anyway. Some of that lackadasical attitude was due to her generosity with points.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Thanks Sheryl for an awesome summer session, I greatly enjoyed your class and getting to know you. :)
Love love her class! Although it is challenging, shes an awesome understanding teacher! -amanda c

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
she is very encouraging and very helpful. i wish i was a better test taker so my grades reflected how much i learned from her. i think that she has helped me because i wont just try to get the grade, i'll try to understand why and everything.
Giving us knowledge and feedback on everything we needed to know and had good organization skills for the class!
Her background in the medical field makes it a big difference, she applies what she experienced in class to make it more undestandable.
Easy to Talk to, Very Intuitive, A kind heart, out of all the teachers I had That were female she would be the best out of the three. I bring up gender because A majority of My teachers are male.
Her work experience before she was a teacher help make this class real. And her personality makes you feel comfortable to participate in class and express different reasonings for things that are outside of the text.
Mrs. Shook knows her material very well and is very good at explaining the materials in different ways to make sure everyone is grasping the concept. Her ability to explain things helps a lot for students who haven't had a science related class in a long time, and helps them get back in the swing of things. She can tell when students are not understanding a topic and doesn't have a problem explaining it again and answering students questions.
Overall knowledge of the subject area and hands on experience in the field.
Lively lectures. Tone for the class is upbeat and kept students engaged. She takes time to explain concepts and answer questons. The course content covered a broad range. It was both challenging and interesting.
She is very encouraging. She wants us to learn and be able to apply what we learn to everyday life. She is humorous and it makes the class fun. She is very enthusiastic about what she teaches.
she can simplify a complex idea so everyone can understand it
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
present an actual hard copy of a study guide. trying to remember everything from the notes is stressful and very frustrating when i remember the stories more than the other information.
None!
I wish she can adjust the meeting hours and days for science of sleep class, for future students who are interested in taking the class.
No complaints About her.
I have come to dislike outline style of notes. I found it difficult to fill in needed detail, or to locate facts that I missed. I need repetition, and often the material was hit or miss one shot. How about creating a small text for the class?
It is a strength of hers that she encourages class participation, however I personally got turned off by a few students who spoke about things that didn't necessarily pertain to the lecture. I realize that the dynamics of the class changes every semester, but if there are students who want to have discussions with her, then maybe they could do it after class, because I really wanted to hear her lectures. I felt that sometimes she may have rushed some lectures, because it is only a 50 min class and some students took up valuable time talking about other things.
science of sleep was too easy
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
she would offer as many opportunities and she was very flexible when it came to absences and understanding.
By getting students involved in class dicussions and helping us now what to study for the exams.
She always take time to answers all our concerns and questions
After every class session She takes the time to Remain patient and hear what every student's concerns are. SHE DOES THAT EVERY DAY AFTER CLASS.
Mrs. Shook often asked students if things made sense. It sounds like something really small but it made the biggest difference for me in class because if I didn't understand a concept I was comfortable saying that I didn't understand and I knew she wouldn't have a problem explaining it to me. She told students her office hours and encouraged them to visit her during those hours to discuss any issues we were having with the material and even gave study tips.
She is always tuning in to the class, and responding to student needs.
She shows a genuine concern for students because she really wants every student to succeed. She does this by informing everyone when things are due, she has mini-quizzes to try to teach students to study throughout the semester instead of cramming, and she gives ample opportunities to earn extra credit. When students are irresponsible and miss tests and homework assignments, she tries to work with them to get them on track. She always stays after class and talks with any student that has a concern. She also has office hours, but makes herself available at other times or by phone or email.
Never discrediting an idea
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
HECK YES! she is so helpful and easy to stay awake during a science of SLEEP class!
Yes Because she is a very good teacher that knows the course well and also she is one the most funest and great teachers to have!
Highly recommended!
Yes, Because she is really rational.
Absolutely! Knows her stuff and the subject matter is so relevant to anyone's life as well as my major. Very interesting class.
I recommend Mrs. Shook to any student who asks for an idea of a class to take. Many students didn't know we offered something in science that would interest them like the science of sleep, but I'm glad word is finally getting out about her class. The class is interesting and she is very passionate about it and that comes across while she is teaching.
Yes. You can expect an interesting class, full of good, relevant information.
Yes, see responses above.
Yes. She is down to earth and treats her students with respect.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
i wish she would teach more classes in different areas.
Shes Awesome!!
She's compassionate and really knows her subject :)
She should be given the opportunity her own Class Dedicated to Neuro Science there should be a major dedicated in her honor.
Enjoyed this class to the fullest.
Mrs. Shook was a fabulous teacher. She cares so deeply for her students and has such a passion for her classes that it's really encouraging for students to see.
I did not care for the online book. I found the graphics on it really annoying...brown ink overlying brown "wallpaper". I would have prefered a series of articles to read on the topics covered.
She is an awesome teacher and an awesome person.

Most awesome teacher!!!! love her energy and passion or the material. great teaching style and really got me to think about things and really got me to learn about how our bodies work. she is just the best teacher!!!!!!
She rocks! she is very knowledgable and kind. she shows compassion for her field and students
She explained her goal for the students thoroughly in class and in the assignments.
This teacher is amazing. All the strengths u can find in what a teacher is suppose to be, she has it. Probably the best teacher I've ever had so far. If anyone can teach a difficult subject in a clear way, is an amazing teacher. Not only that but she has the experience and degree to back it up. She is very knowledgeable about the subject.
Well organized class knew material and was able to expand off the book when asked random questions
attracts attention and keeps the students attention. very helpful and willing to help in anyway for her students.
I really felt that Prof. Shook was more concerned with us understanding the material instead of just 'teaching to the test.' She's put in a lot of time to make a custom course that was very effective for me personally. I really like the format she teaches in because all the assignments and quizzes keep me on track. Her lectures are great because she makes the most of the limited time by focusing on the more difficult concepts and it's always an open atmosphere where the students feel comfortable asking for clarification.
Super Friendly, Super Organized, Super Knowledgeable about subject Matter
Everything. She's kind, helpful, knowledgeable, fair, ect. Sheryl is an awesome lady. Two thumbs up, way up!
She was always so exciting to teach, and encouraged us to ask for help if we needed to. She knew the subject well!
Very encouraging and engaging. She has our schedule planned out from the very beginning. We knew exactly when things were due and how much they were worth. She made sure we understood the material and always suggested seeing her after class or another time if we needed clarification.
Her niceness and availability to the students. She would go out of her way to help us.
She is cool.
The encouragement to think for myself!
It is her dedication in helping her students understand the material.
Sheryl is very approachable, nice, and extremely knowledgeable. The PBL teaching style was very unique and it helped us to learn the material better, applying it to situations we may encounter later in our lives. It taught us how to approach a problem and find out how to solve it. The assignments were lots of hard work, but it also was a great tool in helping us understand the material better. I feel more confident in Zoology and willing to further my studies rather intimidated by its complexity.
She uses projects to help students understand the material. She also uses diagrams and pictures and even you tube to get the information across.
Super informational and fun!
Shook is upbeat. Her teaching skills are amazing. She likes to draw a visual image of concepts which really helps me understand much better.
Sheryl presented the material in a clear and effective way where her students can best understand the material.
She is a great communicator and knew her subject very well.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Absolutely nothing, she's seriously perfect!
Take away all of those slides
I would suggest, she stay on one topic and not often say, "let me not go in depth in to this because its on the collaborative or we will discuss about it next week" because it confuses other students and myself.
Her collaborate lecture online was amazing. However, some students need more explanation like me. I mean I like her lecture, but the collaborate was very helpful because i could replay it back over and over again until i got the material. So my suggestion is that maybe she can do more collaborate. Her class should be more like ask questions or discussions or maybe debate would be fun.
None
study guides instead of just giving us the lecture notes
can't think of any
None
None. She is an awesome instructor :-)
HOLY COW the exams were hard. The curve is the only way I am doing well in this class.
None.
There are no changes. I enjoyed the hybrid class.
None.
Maybe have another day of lecture so we would have enough time to thoroughly go through the case study and get ample time for lecture.
None she's the best
I would suggest a more reliable office for her office hours. It was awkward sharing your concerns with students waiting for the next class in the same room.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Always asks if students need help and keeps in close contact.
She took her time to teach and wanted to teach so that every single one of her students understood the material.
she was available at any time, she wanted to help the students learn.
She replied immediately to any questions that the students had. And she understood, if your sick, she wouldn't want to you to come.
She's very approachable and mellow. She's very empathetic towards her students. She offered to let us talk to her about our career choices so she can give us advice because she has tremendous experience. she let's her students know she's available outside of class for help. she gave us breaks in class. she allows us to eat in class. her classroom feels more like a home type of environment.
Helpful energetic teaches well!!
Prof. Shook was always available after class to go over any questions I had or to review tests. Whenever we worked in groups she'd go around and talk with each group personally to see if they needed help, if there was anything they didn't understand. I really really feel that Prof. Shook cares about her students and wants them to succeed in her class.
Genuine concern and caring for students Sent sick student home and explained how they could make assignment up next time.
She is always there to answer questions and push you along.
She answered emails, stayed after class for questions
Always making sure we understood the material and telling us to come see her if we didn't.
Availability.
She was available via after class or email.
She encourages students to come see her when needed.
She was available through email and always willing to listen to our concerns after class or during office hours. She seemed empathetic and understood what we as students were probably going through. She would make accommodations to help us out when needed.
She is available after class to help the students. She takes the time to discuss any concerns.
She answers any questions during and after class. Or during her office hours.
She e-mailed students who weren't doing so well in her class and asked them about their progress. She also had one on one sessions with students in which she asked what was going on in our lives and gave us opportunities to redo our mistakes.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
OF COURSE! She's everything a student could ask for.
YES! Super fun and easy class. Hybrid class that was to my advantage. Love the case studies.
YES!! She is awesome and this class was great
Yes I would, because her teaching is straight to the point and exactly what you expect in the tests. She makes you learn on your own and with a group to find a diagnosis for each case study she assigned.
yes because she's amazing
Yes absolutely see above
YEAH! tries to make the material understandable for her students and relates it to us so we can understand and have a better chance of using the material in the real world.
Absolutely, this course was wonderful and I enjoyed taking it! I've taken a ZOO lecture with another professor that I felt was just awful - it was just straight out of the book lecturing for an hour and a half. Prof. Shook's class is NOT like that at all! It's very interactive and engaging - I absolutely recommend this class.
I will sing her praises from the roof tops of KCC. Definitely Yes
Yes. She's awesome and it is not often that you get a teacher that is so charismatic. She's a good, good teacher.
YES! I loved her class! She was very fun to learn from and unlike other classes, I enjoyed her class and wanted to go to class!
Absolutely! She makes the classes interesting. She breaks everything down so it's easier to understand. Detailed schedule and always willing to help if we have any difficulties.
YES. She is fun and interesting and a GREAT teacher.
Yes. She is cool.
Yes if they can handle the hybrid technique of studying. It's alot of learning things on your own and understanding the concept.
Yes! Challenging, but one learns a lot from her
yes, she's an excellent teacher. She really knew her stuff, was clear in her directions and explanations, open to questions, and listened to concerns. She knew how to create a safe and comfortable learning environment and supported us through out the semester.
yes, to students that are self motivated and able to learn fast. If you are a slower learner, take a 3 day a week class with someone else.
Of course!
Yes. Shes a great sweet caring teacher. She drives me to want to learn.
Yes I would because she's a teacher who knows her material well and makes the course easier to understand.
Yes. She is an outstanding professor that shows great concern for her students and is very caring for other people as well. She is also very enthusiastic in teaching the subject.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
She is by far one of the top two teachers on my list. She is so kind and friendly and a joy to be around
She's fun, but as usual when it comes to lecture, it does make you fall asleep. It happens though.
she is not only intelligent but she's funny and creative and she looks good for a teacher.
She was a joy to have, she has a wonderful personality, she's such a sweet person and excellent teacher and I hope she has a great summer :)
She is someone you would love to have as a friend.
I wish more teacher were like you :-)
Cool teacher.
She knows the subject very well and show enthusiasm of the subject.
Great job! I respect her passion in helping students succeed.
Excellent teacher.
She is very mellow. Doesn't get angry or upset very easily.
I enjoyed your class & I hope the best for you. Your such a sweet teacher :)
She is a great professor. Not only is she caring, she takes her time to teach difficult subjects in a layman's term. She is also great in communicating through email and responds promptly.
18. Other comments:
Keep smiling and sending those positive vibes, your changing lives.
None.
Wish her class was longer. An hour and fifteen minutes one time a week is not enough time. It should be a 2 hour class.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Very nice to students. Always thorough. Knows her subject area very well.
If you have any problems, she is right there to help. she doesn't make you feel like your stupid.
She quickly responded to any questions you had.
helps students out any way possible. shows concerns for her students. very passionate teacher
her knowledge and kindness
She knew the subject well and was able to convey the material in an understandable way to all of her students. She made the material seem fun and interesting which then encouraged the students to engage and desire to learn more about the subject being taught. She also showed genuine concern for all of her students and wanted them to really understand the material.
Being friendly and professional. She doesnt waste anyones time.
helpful during experiments and willing to explain in greater detail
Always willing to stay after class or make an appointment with students who need extra help. Makes the classes interesting and worth learning.
Sheryl Shook's major strengths as a teacher are: -Knowledgeable about this subject -good communication with the students
From what I have seen she is well organized. She has a tablet she carries with her to class. From time to time I would see her writing during our lab. Because of this I can tell that she is continually monitoring herself and her class as an instructor. To me this is her greatest strength. Her awareness. One thing that always irritates me is when instructors take longer than 48 hours to respond to emails. This was not a problem with Sheryl Shook. She answered my emails very quickly. Sometimes within a couple of hours. So her communication was a strength.
She is very friendly, easy going and approachable. She explains concepts and assignments thoroughly and is available when the students need her. She is also understanding and very helpful.
Able to relate and understand her students, and communicating the material effectively.
Sheryl's major strengths as a teacher would be that she knows her material very well and she gets along with the students on a personal level as well as professional.
Enthusiastic; Knows subject very well and knows how to teach subject in a way that is easy to understand.
An overall great teacher. She knew what she was teaching!
Organized, excellent communication skills, friendly
BEST teacher ever. Really concerned with her students in an academic setting but also for their personal well being in the most appropriate way. She makes the concepts so understandable and is willing to help until every student understands.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
No changes.
get rid of the slides
Nothing.
actual study guide extra study session to offer help before the exams CURVE exams
None. She has an awesome teaching plan.
Nothing.
Honestly, nothing.
None! Love her!
None at the moment.
No changes.
I would like it if KCC got rid of using real animal dissection and went to using models or 3D computer model dissection so that innocent animals wouldn't have to die in the name of science anymore when there are very suitable alternatives available.
No changes at all, everything was such a blessing.
NONE!!!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Push students to study hard to make sure they understand the course.
She visits everyone during procedures to verify they understand.
As a pregnant student, for certain lab activities she made do an alternative assignment that wouldn't harm me because of the chemicals and smell that I may intake.
she emailed really quick and always answered all our questions
she was available at any given time, and wanted to truly help us understand the material if we didn't
She always asked if anyone needed any further clarification on an experiment or a lecture she had given and was more than willing to stop the class to explain. She replied to emails regarding questions and concerns over her class very quickly--most often that same day!
E-mails, test material, proper guidance, and etc. She is fantastic
Always willing to stay later and quick to respond to emails. Goes over materials in class repeatedly when students ask her to and always asking if we need clarification.
Sheryl Shook show concern for students by always willing to help them.
She made sure to answer all questions with clarity and ensure we understood the answers. During lab she was focused on safety including proper handling of materials and clean up. She prepared and delivered highly efficient instruction. She made it a point to notify us of things that are important to know for future reference, especially in related fields. I feel all of these things showed her concern for students and a degree of passion for instruction.
She would ask for feedback and quiz us so that we understood all that was being covered. She also let us know what was going to be on exams so that we were able to study efficiently. She always made herself available to students.
Always offered her help.
She is always available to the students before and after class and she also responds to emails quickly.
Does her best to make sure students are on the same page, answers all questions to best of her ability, is patient.
She took latework and encourages us with kind words.
Yes
She makes all concepts understandable and is willing to help everyone until they understand. She is patient and kind and just the best teacher I have ever had in many years of school. She is always available on email or flexible to meet when needed to help everyone.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She is great at explaining her lessons in a simplistic language while still withholding the important facts and she also encourages her students to perform critical thinking.
teaching, explaining, tutorial
Professor Shook made sure that we understood the material that she was teaching unlike many other science classes.
She is a very driven teacher that inspires the class and gets us to do our very best.
she knew the subject very well! she also has a great and caring personality.
She gets the students to be interactive, always fair, makes things straightforward, and can relate to us students.
She is very nice and patient with all the students. She stays after class if anyone has questions and is very good at making examples that help to remember the material in class. She is very easy to get along with!!
Shook as a teacher has notes pre-worked for you before you come to class so when you begin you feel really and not stressed that you wont be able to keep up with her lecture. She also allows time for you to ask lots of questions and she encourages lots of class participation.
She's good at keeping students involved during the lecture. Like it's not just her talking and writing stuff on the board, but she has random points in the lecture where we would have to discuss a question with a classmate or something. Then she would randomly call on someone, this made it so that we can't sleep in this class even though it's called The Science of Sleep. I also like that she is flexible and gives us 3 days to take the exam, some test I am ready for and some I need more time so it's good to have a window of days to take it.
Knowledgeable, considerate, fair, understanding, passionate, encouraging.
She knows material and engages the entire class to partcipate in discussion. She is kind and really cares about each student. She also makes learning the material easy with fillable notes.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None.
no need, all good
we should have a review day before exams instead of just one student or few students staying back to ask questions because the questions they asked can be the other students who already left for their next class' questions. :(
none
none at all!
Nothing much, it's a great class.
I wouldn't want her to change at all!! :)
none.
No changes. Even though sometimes she had to cancel class, it was still a very productive class, with videos and online assignments that we can do. Maybe if it's possible make the class longer so that future students can learn more things about sleep because it's so very interesting!
Her not having her back injuries. Strong woman!
None.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She always opens up her schedule to meet with her students and helps them work out their issues.
give time to us,
he lets us review our exam individual to see what questions we got wrong and what information we got wrong.
She would ask if there are any questions as well as emphasize that her help is always readily available.
she provided us multiple extra credit opportunities!
She won't try to rush the material into our heads and tries to makes things as easy to understand as possible.
She made sure everyone understood the material before moving on to the next lesson. If we had questions she would answer them with more depth. Also if we needed to miss class she would email us back to let us know what we missed.
She was very caring for other students but what really made it helpful and encouraging is that, Sheryl came to class and gave her best despite a spinal injury. You could tell she was in pain but she was very strong in letting her students know that she wouldn't give up on them. As a student i was encouraged to give my all and my best respect and attention to a teacher who is willing to go through so much trouble for me. On an academic note she responded very quickly to emails, sometimes in 15mins with a response. She was always willing to meet outside of class if needed. Much mahalo!
She showed her concern by giving us extra credit quizzes on laulima to help us study for the exams. She also was very helpful when class was done by staying a little after to explain things more if we had questions.
Also responded in a timely manner, gave many opportunies for discussions during class, always willing to stay after class for help, always gave out reminders for anything upcoming.
She was available after class to discuss any questions or concerns we had. She was also very understanding about circumstances.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes! She is an amazing teacher, who will make you curious about life and science, take her PHYL 160; it will open your mind!
yes, the class is fun and i like the teacher
yes she is super nice and very kind. he cares about her students privacy and gives us other ways to get our point on our homeworks. forexample when my laulima wasnt functioning well, she lets me directly emailing to her.
Most definitely. Her lectures are great to listen to and you learn a lot from it. There isn't much homework and the test is time-manageable and the project was fun to do.
Yes because she is a very fun interactive teacher that gets you involved.
yes! she provided outline notes for each lesson and that was very beneficial in studying. I also liked the way she splits us up into different groups. I liked this because I got to make new friendships.
Yes, she is fun, energetic, and treats the class fair.
I would definitely recommend her because she is the best health professor I had so far! She made learning very easy and fun! The class is very easy if you go to class and take notes because she basically tells you what you need to know for the test!
I would suggest a lot of students take her class because she is very educated on her material as a sleep studies teacher. She also encourages group studies, group participation, and allows you to speak your mind and give any outside input that you could.
I would recommend her because it's an easy class as long as you come to class, pay attention, and do the few assignments that she assigns. It's also good that she presents the material in a way so that it's relevant to real life things and conditions. I would also recommend her for ZOOL classes because she gives extra credit and is good at explaining.
Definitely. She is very knowledgable in the science of sleep field. Very enthusiastic and passionate. She is fair. Has great time management. Always gave in class and email reminders of anything upcoming.
Most definitely because her classes are fun and educational.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is an amazing teacher, who taught all her PHYL 160 class how to sleep properly.
she's a good teacher
i really like how you teach. I may take your other class for next semester.
I am so thankful that I had her as a professor because she made the overall learning experience enjoyable.
keep doing what you're doing!
I appreciate the fact that she taught this semester with her back injuries. She really loves her job.
Thank you Sheryl for being such an amazing teacher! Even though she had major back pain she endured the pain to help us get through the lesson. She thought of the student first! She is truly the most awesome teacher ever!
She is very kind and wonderful teacher. I wish I took her class earlier in my college career, as I'm transferring to a university i will be looking for her courses to see if i could take another class of hers, even if it's just for an elective.
She is a very nice professor who is really open to her students. She is very helpful and makes the class go by very quickly.
Raise teacher salaries!
Outstanding.

Thanks for hard work
Sometimes you move so fast that i cant catch up. I dont like how i went from an A to a C within two weeks. :(
A awesome professor that enjoys her work.
thanks for everything! I looked forward to coming to class everyday!
Extra credit throughout the semester is very easy and the tests are fairly simple! easy A! :)
I liked the activities in class like the game days for points or extra credit. I also like that we talked about lots of sleep disorders and the poster session was very interesting to see what other people in our class found out. She is a good professor and human. Thank you! :D
Great semester!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She knew the subject well and related it to real life situations.
She knows the course material a lot and she always has examples for us students so learning the material is easier
PASSIONATE ABOUT TEACHING!!
She relates to her students and gives real life scenarios to help students learn. I feel she is the only professor that I had that actually do this.
Dr. Shook knows the subject of anatomy and physiology very well.
Sheryl's major strengths as a teacher was that she was able to present the material in a very simple and easy way for her students to understand. She also encouraged student participation during discussions and she was always in for her office hours to answer any questions. It was evident that she really cared about her students and their success in not only this course but in their later careers.
Well knowledged, makes learning fun, bonds with students.
I would rate Mrs. Shook as one of my top 5 best instructors. She knows her subject area VERY well and she is very caring and understanding. She responds promptly to emails and is just overall a great teacher.
She is so nice & funny. She is also approachable and always wants you to ask her questions. If she doesn't know then she will find out for you.
She cares for the students, is willing to help and explain concepts if students do not understand. She is also willing to change her teaching methods/explanations of concepts to be more understandable to the class.
I have never met anyone like professor Shook before. She is the reason why I believe that KCC has the best professors! Her attitude is so infectious. She has a love for a&p (one of the most difficult subjects I have ever took). Yet she is able to break down the information to the level of a first-time learner.
She is a great teacher. She really encourages you to think outside the box. She really challenges you to think about things instead of just trying to memorize answers. I have always had trouble understanding Anatomy and Physiology but I learned so much by being in her class. She helps you to see the bigger picture of why things happen.
Professor Shook really knows A&P very well. She was very organized and interesting. She like sharing her past experiences while somehow relating it to our lecture.
Providing examples of how material we were learning applied in life.
So caring of all her students and understanding of the challenges students face in juggling school, work and life. She was a person as opposed to a teacher that draws a diving line between instructor and student.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Just more review during class and maybe add another class day so more can be done
NOTHING, PERFECT TEACHER!!
I felt her exams were tricky and hard. If she makes it more outstanding it may be easier for her students.
None
None! I wish she had more courses to offer in different subjects!
I truly enjoyed every aspect of the class.
No changes.
Professor Shook doesn't need to change because she was a great teacher!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She answered all our questions that may be course related or some other topic
ALWAYS THERE TO HELP!!!
She would encourage her students to ask her and come see her if we had any questions.
Sheryl always asked after her lectures if any one needed any clarification on what she had just discussed. She also replied to every email with concern and did so within hours (at most a day).
Bonds with students, responds to email, makes sure students understand.
She always took the time to answer everyone's questions. She was always willing to stay after class to answer anything that wasn't clear.
She called on people to answer questions during her lecture but DID NOT make you feel dumb if you didn't know the answer. She would help direct you to the answer. Also, she was accessible through email & is so courteous. She is so approachable and stays after class about an hour to answer any additional questions students may have or to give advice.
She was willing to listen to concerns about assignments and tests and she went over answers that I got wrong on tests to make sure I understood the concepts.
She wants the best for her students and was always there after class. She always made sure we knew that we could email her or see her if we had any concerns.
She makes sure all her students understands what they are doing. She makes herself available if you have any questions or if you need help understanding anything.
Extra Credit, the reminding/informing emails, her attitude
She really took the time to know her students and answer questions about all topics. Since many are going into the medical field she offered her own experiences to help guide us instead of using just the class material. Put it all in context.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. We learn so much during the semester but she covers the "more" important ones that we need to know.
Yes she is a great teacher and very thorough of what we need to know for a test or anything
YES!!! HER PASSION RUBS OFF ON YOU!
Yes I would because she is a very supporting professor and her teaching style is different from any other. You can learn some things from her if you have some knowledge of this course.
I would recomend this class because it makes the student think outside the box.
Yes, cool teacher, fun, well knowledged, caring and helpful.
Yes I would. Although Mrs. Shook's class isn't the easiest, as long as you study all her material and everything she says to study, you will do fine.
Of course! She makes a tough subject a little easier to learn. She has a lot of assignments but they are supplemental so that students really grasp the important factors of the subject.
Absolutely! She is a great teacher!
Yes. I believe that Sheryl is one of those rare professors that make you feel comfortable in talking with. She breaks down the barrier of just teacher and student and comes to you as a friend. She is always available if you need extra help and she encourages students to have a successful study habit.
Yes I definitely would because she is a wonderful teacher. Anatomy and Physiology can be a challenging subject but the right teacher can help you understand the material and why things happen the way they do.
Of course i would because A&P is a very hard subject but with Professor Shook, i understood it a lot better.
I learned a lot and it was relevant material. Professor Shook also is smart and has a lot of different experiences in the professional field, so is a good mentor for students.
YES! One of the best teaches I have had. She is fair and understanding. Knows the material and isn't afraid to be real with her students.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is a great teacher she made class fun and easily understandable
ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS I HAVE EVER HAD, BEST ONE I HAVE EVER HAD AT A CC.
She is nice and friendly, surely optimistic!
Thank you. You helped me fill in some of the missing pieces that I had.
Thank you for getting me excited to learn about anatomy and physiology and for making the material seem fun and easy!
Awesome job.
Great teacher with a great personality.
I appreciate her kindness and sincerity to really let students understand the concepts of zoo 142.
Thank you for making this tough subject matter more manageable!
She was so positive and great. Such a kind spirited woman. I am taking this survey just so I can make sure she gets this feedback!!!!! :)
She is very down to earth. She is very funny and caring. She knows what she is doing when it comes to teaching. I wish she taught more classes because I would love to take more classes with her teaching.
Professor Shook is one of the best teachers i have ever had. Most teachers are the type that gives that student the textbook and forces them to learn on their own, but Professor Shook has encouraged me and my classmates to actually understand the concept. I would definately want to take another class with her some other semester. I will miss her very much.

Her major strengths as a teacher is being able to motivate and encourage her students to get excited about this subject area! The fact that she comes to class and is enthusiastic makes me stay interested. Her case studies that she hands out are also very fun to do and it helps us to get a brief idea of what working in the medicine field would be like.
She is very invested in integrating as many learning styles as possible to learn the material.
I think this class is a well balanced class and very helpful in learning and understanding the subject. Ms. Shook integrated many different ways for us to really think critically about case studies.

She comes around to each group making sure that everyone is on the same page, and answers any questions that students have
she was always available, tried to give as much office hours as she could, emailed us promptly after exams.
She was always very attentive to us and constantly checked if we were meeting our academic goals.
By showing us some relevant examples with the topic.
Even tho she wasn't feeling well she still made herself available and really did want us to do well
Nothing, She very understanding.
Always accessable to us with our questions or concerns,
She understands that there is so much to keep track of for the course so she is kind and flexible ex. she extended the exam date.
She showed concern by just checking up on us every class and reminding us that since this is the summer session we have to be extra motivated to do well. Dr. Shook would also send emails that say to let her know if your not meeting your expectations and goals in this class. She was very gracious and gave us opportunities to help us out.
She was always open to explaining concepts after class and adapting test times to help with unique student scenarios.
Yes, definitely showed concern for us especially because of the short semester.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She made each class interesting which encouraged me to learn.
Professor Shook is an excellent teacher! I wish I could have had her for all of my zoology courses. She knows this subject so well and explains it with such interest, a student would never be bored! She is very understanding of the students and very patient.
She taught us not only anatomy, but excellent pointers on how to study efficiently. She isn't a dull teacher, nor does she fill our class with busywork. Informative and highly knowledgeable. She is prepared to answer any question that you have.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None.
Nothing, she's the best!
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She always asked if we had questions and she returned email quicky.
She repeatedly said to us that she can reach us through her email and that she checks it often. Every class, she always tells the students that if anyone has questions, they can just come over and ask while we are working on our labs.
She demonstrates her concern for students by asking if we have any questions for her and whether or not if the material is clear. She quizzes us during lab and she interacts with us to make sure we have everything down pat.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, She is great teacher.
Yes, good teacher
YES :)
Yes I'd recommend dr. Shook to students. She is direct, there are no hidden agendas. Always very clear on what is expected of us in order to get the best grade that we can achieve. She is an educator that truly wants to see her students succeed. If there were any questions, she'd be right there to answer them.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I really enjoyed her class and she is such a wonderful person!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She had very clear objectives and never fell behind schedule. She also made the class participate as much as possible
Dr.Shook is very kind and she always encourage student.
She knows the subject very well.
She's fun and knows her stuff.
She was very knowledgable with the topic.
She is great at what she does! She speaks on the level of her students to help the students understand the subject to the best of our ability.
She is patient and shows concern for her students.
She really emphasized group and partner work. Her delivery of the material made is up-beat and cheery. She does her best not to make the class boring.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
THe only thing that needed chaning was the time. 9am is too early.
Instead of hand writing, use power point or OHP.
No changes.
More activities if possible.
None. Her class was always a fun class to get to.
I don't think she should change much of anything, but she was really great at student activities and maybe could use more.
Class time was short. I really liked taking Exam 3 in the testing center. I think if all the exams were in the testing center, then we would have more class/lecture time.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She had office hours and anytime we had questions she would look them up and geet back to us as soon as possible.
She extend exam period. And always answer student's question kindly.
She would email her students ahead of time about any changes in the schedule and other important things.
Available and flexible whenever.
She would always email us back right away with our concerns and questions.
Professor Shook showed her concern for students by responding to students very promptly, and taking a personal interest in all her students.
She communicates with students.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes i would reccommend her class to other students because she is a good teacher
Yes, I recommend her class. Because class is interesting. I learned a lot of things which I do not know before ( how sleep is important)
Yes, because her methods of teaching is very helpful and easy to understand.
Yes!!! Great teacher in general.
Yes I would, You can always ask her anything about the subject and she can either answer you on the spot or get back to you via email asap.
Yes, because she is a great teacher, you will learn a lot, and it is an enjoyable comfortable atmosphere.
Yes
Yes, i would recommend students to take any class she offers. She is a great teacher.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She is very nice and patient
She is a very nice, caring, and funny professor.
I love her enthusiasm. It helps learn.
She made every lesson we had a fun experience and I got to learn a lot of the science and theory behind sleep this semester.
She has been one of the most enjoyable teachers I have ever had. She is a great person, but most of all she is a great educator!
I always came out of your class, knowing something brand new that was interesting.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Prof. Shook is very motivating, and easy to reach out to.
Awesome person/instructor. Everything was easy to follow and she explained things very well. I wish I could take her for all a&p classes!!
She knows everything she teaches.
Covered this all in the lecture part - fantastic in every way!!! She fosters an amazing and productive learning environment, her enthusiasm and manner of speaking is highly relatable.
Sheryl has a definitive insight into the material she teaches. She has a great way of taking the complex mechanics of the human body and integrating it into our day to day in way that doesn't overwhelm the student, but that encourages and promotes the pursuit of further in depth knowledge.
Professor Shook is an intelligent and compassionate teacher. She treats her students like equals and she never makes you feel like you are unworthy of her time. She is a great motivator.
She always cares and is always completely honest with us. She goes over and beyond what she needs to do for us to understand the material. Her PBL work is amazing, very productive, helped us learned the material better, got to use more then just the book to do it, real life problems. I recommend her to all my friends, I tell them if you really want to learn they should take it from her. One of the best professors I have ever met that made a huge impact in my life.
It is difficult to assess Sheryl's strengths as a teacher because she is so good at all of them. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, presents course information in new formats that encourage learning and embodies what a great teacher should be like.
Other than knowing and presenting the material clearly, she would return emails and grade tests and assignments promptly.
She really cares for her students and wants you to really understand it .
Ms Shook's best qualities are her passion for the subject and her depth knowledge of the subject. Her prior experience of teaching this course meant that she already knew which areas would pose problems for students and so she made sure to go over these in class. I found this extremely helpful as I usually had problems in the areas that she went through. She also kept her teaching interesting by having mass class participation (eg show of hands if you think drinking ANP increases urine production).
An open view on teaching looking for the most efficient way
she is very very awesome teacher. She alway patient to explain and help student who don't understand material/content. She takes care students and second language students. She doesn't like other teacher with racist. She reply e-mail very fast that within 24 hour, sometime within 1-2 hour.
She really knows her material.
She comes off as a friend and instructor, rather than one or the other. She was very fair about how she values all her student's knowledge.
She's very energetic, is passionate and knowledgeable about the subject, and genuinely cares about her students and wants them to succeed.
She is good at going over the difficult parts of the chapters in the little class time that we have. She is also good at managing our class and organizing it so that we can maximize class time but still have a short break in between our 75 minute class.
Super caring, super clear, super knowledgeable, and super organized. And while she's obviously incredibly intelligent, she grasps where students will have trouble with basic concepts and makes a point of covering them in a way that enables students to learn it on their own outside of class (ie asking leading or reasoning questions in the notes, suggesting where to make drawings and starting drawings on the board during lecture). Doesn't just take questions but invites them, which is really important in a culture like Hawaii's, and follows up when she says she will. Also doesn't try to minimize her role in the administrative aspects of the course like many instructors, but really goes the extra effort to make sure that everyone knows what's required, how to complete assignments, and what to expect.
She knows all the concept and teaches them so that students will learn the materials and be able to comprehend the lesson.
She is the kindest and most helpful teacher I have met in a long time. She is very clear in the way she explains subject matter and makes it VERY easy to understand complex concepts. She also gives us checklists and notes to follow which makes studying a LOT easier as a student. Because her class format was problem based learning, she would show us how concepts from the book were related to things that happen in real life and we could question and figure these things out on our own. She also stayed behind for at least a half an hour or more answering students' questions and making herself available to all of us. She also was willing to find a fair and reasonable solution for each problem I ran into and was VERY understanding of our situations (I am a student who also works part-full time and has a old/sick relative to help with).
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Nothing, continue the excellent job.
Sometimes the notes didn't explain the abbreviations.
none! everything was perfect
NONE
Actually no major suggestions come to mind. For a mostly online course, such as this one, there is the perfect combination of self driven study, and lecture over the more difficult concepts.
Having assignments due at a specific time during the day makes it difficult to meet deadlines. It would be easier if they were due at 12am the day prior.
no changes, just wished a lot of the classes were more like this or at least had professors that cared a little more like her
None. Her course, though very difficult, is designed to provide the student with the information they need to succeed. The student only needs to spend the time learning the subject matter to excel in the class.
None. I took Z 141 PBL style class last term and the added lectures for difficult concepts really helped me. I'm not sure if I would've understood the concepts had it not been for the mini lectures. Having points added for the Wiley Plus assignments instead of extra credit is a great idea. It ensures that students go through Wiley Plus which is such a great resource. I never went through the collaborate blackboard last term because I had trouble installing Java. But I'm so glad I took the time to install it and go through it. Another great resource.
not so much exams crammed into one semester.
None
Don't think group learning should be a hybrid class but instead a lecture stylized class with group learning to reinforce what has been taught
None :)
I personally hated doing PBL, although it probably helped some students, I hate interacting with others and that caused me extra stress, knowing that I'm not as bright as others.I felt like sitting out of every class to avoid being within the group.
Didn't love the PBL set-up, but this is probably because our group went from 8 students down to only 4 who participated with any consistency.
No changes. Just stay the same in teaching ways so that other students can enjoy your class while learning a lot of things that are really hard to remember.
The exams weren't particularly challenging. Maybe it was just because the material was so well laid out and the important concepts reinforced in lecture, Collaborate, and the Case studies, but I wouldn't have minded more application questions on the test. Especially any that ask you to make a diagnosis on a patient based on signs and symptoms. I think students benefit from being forced to answer practice questions. There was a whole bank of questions in Wiley Plus that I used to test myself, as well as the end of chapter quizzes, and that was how I prepared for the exams. It seemed to work well. Maybe instead of the 5 question Chapter quizzes, make the quizzes longer or assign some of the Wiley Plus Chapter quizzes. It is more work, but being successful at most things requires more work rather than elss.
None.
I would like if she could put the due date of each assignment/quiz she has on the checklist (but we can also do that ourselves). I myself think that it would have been easier to take a paper exam since I am only really available to take an exam on that day, but I am not sure how other students feel about the open time. I also wish we went over more topics in-depth either through animations/lessons online (since it is a hybrid class) because the topics I really remember and feel like I know inside and out are the ones she explains/draws out in lecture.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
She always let us know that if we have some problems in our subject, we can always discuss that to her.
She was easily accessed outside of class, communicated well also.
She's very very HELPFUL! she email us back asap.:)))
Covered in lecture part - kind, compassionate, approachable, willing to answer questions but not feed us the answers-we are to try to think about it first, accommodating to life circumstances - just amazing overall.
Sheryl is very careful in her teaching style, in that in her eyes there must be no student who is left confused or wanting. She takes the due diligence and makes herself as available as necessary for every student to understand the topic at hand.
She showed much concern by going over specific topics that she knew would be on the test that students were having a difficult time with.
she always had office hours, emailed fast, we would talk after class all the time, she would really be concerned for us if we were sick or not feeling good. She's such a mom...its great
Sheryl always takes the time to explain any subject a student has questions on. I personally have had Sheryl take the time to show me how to use the computer to submit homework online. She truly embodies what a true educator should be like. She always has the concerns of the student at the top of list of important things to remember.
Always encouraging students to talk with her if the are not achieving their expected grade. She would offer some study strategies and when we were in PBL discussions, she listened in to each group and would clear up any concepts for the students.
She was always available to us if we needed help with something.
She answered all questions thoroughly and on the rare occasion that she didn't know she made sure she found out and answers for next class. Also when we split into our groups to look at our case studies she would circulate in the classroom making sure that all the groups were on the right track and all their questions were answered. She was available after class for questions and was easily accessible through email.
Was always open
She alway make sure student understand what she explain and encourage student to participate. And she motivate student have interest in learning and keep to work!
If ever she knew she was going to be out of her office, she informed that class of an alternative time that they can go and meet up with her.
She helps after class if we don't understand something, which is really good with a lot of difficult material that we have to learn. She also checked to see what the alarm sound was outside so that in case there was a fire or emergency that we would be okay just staying there in the classroom. She curves our test so that even if we study all the time and can't remember everything we can still pass the class.
By being herself!
She always thinks about the safety of her students.
She is the kindest and most helpful teacher I have met in a long time. She is very clear in the way she explains subject matter and makes it VERY easy to understand complex concepts. 16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I actually recommended her already to one of my friends for next semester, because Prof. Shook is a very good teacher.
Yes absolutely.
YES! Awesome teacher, and she really helps you learn the course and material, unlike most teachers at KCC.
I DEFINITELY WOULD:)))
YES!! covered in lecture - her approach to teaching will TEACH you if you are open and ready to do some work. Her classes are not easy but that's what makes them amazing because the course content coupled with her teaching style - couldn't ask for anything better.
This is very much the kind of course any student with a tight schedule could take. A&P is a very in demand class and this is the perfect mix of time saving and informative for most students. However, only students with a strong confidence in their own ability to drive themselves to learn need apply.
Absolutely! She is a wonderful teacher and I am so happy that I had the experience to learn from her.
oh yea definitely...only her and prof Patz seem to really care...no else gives.
Yes, if the student is willing to study hard and know the subject matter being taught in intimate detail. If they are looking for an easy course to take I suggest they look elsewhere. She is fabulous as a teacher but the subject matter is difficult and her tests are very thought provoking.
Yes I would. She really wants student to learn the material. You can really see it. If you just do the work and reading, you should be able to grasp a good amount of the concepts. But if you ever need help, she'll be there every step of the way.
Yes, she really pushes you to understand the material.
Yes. She clearly knows a lot about the material and answers all questions thoroughly, on the rare occasion that she doesn't know she will make sure she finds out and answers you in the next class.
Yes it is a straightforward class
Yes. Because is good for student learn alot. She treat every student fairly and take her class is worth!
Of course! She knows all of her material very well and makes learning really fun and easier that it should be.
Yes, because the way she teaches it is really good. She gives homework and this helps because it is another way to learn other than from just lectures and reading the book. She also makes us get into groups and do a case study in class and this helps us to really think and see how what we are learning actually relates to real life things. This is good because if it is not really related to real life things like diseases and conditions and such then I would probably not remember it as well.
100%. I've copied the strengths section I filled out: Super caring, super clear, super knowledgeable, and super organized. Definitely. She's a wonderful teacher and students will enjoy learning about Anatomy and Physiology because she makes learning enjoyable, especially when dealing with a lot of science.
YES, although the exams are tough and there are quite a few assignments, once you get into the routine of the format of the class, the rest is fairly easy and you feel like you walk away from the class actually learning MORE than you would have from power point slides. She is really the nicest and most caring teacher I have met in a long time, and she is always willing to give so much of her time and energy to her students.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I really like the way she designed her class, even though the course is difficult, she make it easier.
SHE IS AWESOME:)))
Just THANK YOU so much for being one of the best, TEACHERS on this campus - your love for your job, your subject matter, your care for your students--this goes a long way and I wish more carried this ethic. Thank you for being a friendly person and a teacher that holds her students accountable at the same time -- your ability to balance and separate...makes you one of the best bar none.
Sheryl is by far one of the most caring professors I have had this semester. She not only cares about her students professionally, she is earnestly concerned about them as individuals.
She is a pleasure to work with. I appreciate all of her positivity and encouragement! I really enjoy her class.
Too bad everyone else couldn't be like her. or at least had her mentality
I respect Sheryl not only as a great educator but as an evolved person. She only has the best interests of the student in mind in everything she says and does. She is someone that anyone would be honored to call a friend and be proud to introduce to others.
Highly recommend her as a professor, and the PBL class is run really well.

Prof. Shook, continue the good job, I really enjoy your class.
JOB WELL DONE:))THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Thank you Sheryl for another interesting course. It was certainly difficult, but for me, you made the difference in whether I was successful or not successful in learning the subject matter. Thank you for being so compassionate towards my health and inadequate skills with the computer.
Great class!! It really shows that there is a lot of time, work, and effort put into the class. Especially with grading assignments so quickly, going over and preparing the lectures, and preparing the PBL case studies. They come from a book, but still needs to be focused toward our chapters. Great job!!!
