13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Mr. Salvador was readily available and always offered his assistance.
He helped the students if they had any problems with the class.
The class is well structured. I know what I am suppose to learn, when assignments are assigned and due, and examples of writings for reference are great learning aid. The lectures already contain ample information for each assignments and graded forum response.
He knew his material very well, and was always there to help.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
The use of the required book was minimal in my personal experience. The information written on the book are readily available through the Internet. There were already ample information on lectures that I never really looked at the book often.
I suggest that next time maybe the assignments could be a little more clear for people who couldn't quite understand them.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
The feedback on writings are really helpful. They are clear and helps bind together the objective of the writing.
He was always open for office hours and was always there for the students.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, I would recommend Mr. Salvador to other students who want to take Eng 100. He is overall a great teacher and is always willing to help you succeed in his class.
I would recommend Normie Salvador for students, new or not in online learning. The lesson plan is structured pretty well. There are enough information on lectures and writing examples.
Yes. He is a very helpful teacher when you need help on an assignment and he knows his subject material.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
NONE
18. Other comments:
Normie Salvador does not discourage students to connect things to form a well structured writing.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
His strengths was his knowledge on creative writing. he did help me a lot with bettering my writing, with pointing out on my assignments on how I could improve. Since it was an online class, it was tough trying to learn by myself, but that's how creative writers should learn to write, which is by themselves and Mr. S was there to guide us and continue us on this path.
As a teacher her strengths are the passion she has for this course and the concern she has for her students.
He cared enough for his students to see that each of us succeeded in his class.
You get back to students immediately and update your grade book frequently which allows students to see their progress. If we don't understand what you expect from us, you clearly explain yourself and give us examples which help a lot also.
Very thorough with instructions and helpful with circumstances that may hinder turning in assignments on time.
He really knows a lot about creative writing and all the techniques. It was cool to get feedback about how to create captivating stories and poems. He knows all the different elements for this type of writing.
very consistent and prompt
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None, he did offer extra opportunities, rewrites, and was fair through the semester to every one of his students.
To be much more clear on assignments and to provide more examples that are not from the book so that students will fully understand the coursework.
Some of the instructions for the assignment was a bit hard to understand or a bit vague on what exactly is being asked for, but Mr. Salvador did reply back very quickly to clarify instructions.
I honestly thought this was an enjoyable online class. I've taken one online class before and this was even better. The pace was just right, you are fair, and the topics we discussed and did were interesting and I actually looked forward to writing short stories and poems.
Nothing really. The course was pretty well organized
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
i think he barely showed concern since it was an online class. There wasn't much push on making students submit that's why I seen less people started submitting things on time. For my own experience, we did send back and forth emails over this semester on assignments, and help.
She always gave feedback and if she felt that the student didn't understand something, she would get in contact with him/her.
He encouraged students to ask questions, whether big or small. He did not mind answering any questions that a student may have about a particular thing.
You always welcomed us to email you if we had any questions. You also made sure we knew when your office hours were, which showed even more concern for us students.
Always answered back with personal messages on a timely manner.
We could post questions in certain assignments and email with questions.
making himself available to students questions
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I would definitely recommend him because it's a writing intensive, and if they like writing creatively, then this is the class. It's not that hard, but if you can't make deadlines, then you're screwed.
Yes, I would recommend her ONLY if they are up for the challenge because this course was difficult.
Yes, his class has a lot of writing due to it being an intensive writing course, but he is a fair grader, and allows for resubmission if needed.
Yes!!!! Great teacher, why not?
Yes, he's very helpful, makes the work easy enough to understand and yet challenging to the point where we need to stretch ourselves to think in different ways we sometimes don't always think in.
Yes. Nice teacher. Knows his material and gives really good feedback
Yes
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I would like to say that he was a willing and able instructor to help out, but it was up to the students if they wanted to meet or email him to get that help. His assignments an how the assignments were given out was spot on in my learning experience on creative writing.

Thank you, I have learned a lot of myself in your class and my capability of writing.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Normie Salvador is a very effective communicator, the assignments are clearly outlined and clarification is usually unneeded, however any questions are answered promptly and clearly.
always gives feedback
He knows his materials, if your participate through reading and keeping up the work its interesting
He knows what he is talking about. Has interesting assignments. Keeps the class going.
His feedback on assignments where great. Up until the last paper they where very helpful and I understood all of his critiques. He was very understanding and helpful when I was going through some family emergencies in the beginning of the semester. I am glad to have enrolled in his class.
He gives good feedback on assignments
Having the online office chat available really helped me ask questions and get answers promptly. I enjoyed Mr. Salvador's topics, and assignments, which encouraged me to think outside of the box. None of the assignments felt redundant, or boring.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none
Normie should help his students to understand how his class works in the beginning of the semester. Its a 100 level class. Some of the students are first time students in college and have no idea how laulima works. .
I can't think of anything to change for this course.
To put the deadlines in the laulima calendar
I would have liked to see my test results and be able to see what answers I had missed (fallacy quiz). I also would have liked to be moved into a different peer edit group for each essay, in order to get a variety of feedback and get to read other classmates papers. I felt a little uncomfortable participating in the peer edit, especially when asked to highlight grammatical( and other) errors.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
By communicated promplty whenever needed.
write feedback
I email him and he responded by allowing me to turn in a late assignment. to me he showed concern for his students. Thank you for this professor.
Had an open chatroom session which students were allowed to ask questions.
he showed concern through his feedback on all the assignments and altering due dates when the website wasn't working properly.
He sets time to meet with students and he is also available through PM
I believe Mr. Salvador was very good about helping those that asked for help. I could tell he wanted to make sure I understood the material, and gave clear, concise directions for assignments, format and due dates. Mr. Salvador made it very easy for students to follow the syllabus as long as they paid attention.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
sure
Of course I would recommend him to my little cousin coming to college. but not to those who are lazy. Mr. Salvador class is one you take serious in it because there were lots of homework to prepared you for your essay.
To be honest No, Assignments were graded without a proper rubric He doesn't respond emails promptly. Makes it difficult to access his assignments.
Yes I would recommend Normie to other students. He was very fair in his grading and very helpful on all of the writing assignments.
Yes hers a good online teacher, Im not sure about in person
Yes, but I would make sure to let them know this is not a class that you can "skate" through and make an A. If you are willing to put in the effort, stay organized, and would like to learn and improve writing skills, I would highly recommend Mr. Salvador.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
none
having Mr. Salvador as my first online professor was not a bad one. He was doing his part promptly and professionally. I am thankful that he was able to accept late assignment. His comments on my essays really help me a lot to realize my weak areas i need to improve. I find his online lectures were very interesting. Thank you very much MR. Salvador
Even though it is an online course a teacher should at least make an attempt to connect with his students. Otherwise your just a stranger that has the power to fail or pass us.
I would like to thank him for a great first semester of college.
I appreciated his straight forward style of teaching. I also enjoyed that he chose material from a variety of different sources, and that he is a Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman fan!

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
knows subject very well. always willing to explain and help if i didn't understand a concept.
Love the feedback given on assigments
He is quite knowledgeable of the subject.
He knows a lot about the subject.
Knows the subject matter very well. Always teaching how to improve a piece.
Knows the subject well especially when students do not understand something
Very knowledgeable about subject area. Showed genuine interest in making sure students learned the material (by leaving critique, posting comments, etc.).
He provided us with great opportunities to challenge ourselves as well as gave us the tools to succeed.
Normie Salvador's major strengths as a teacher are posting assignments and discussions and their dues ahead of time. I liked how he responded to each student's work. It showed he acknowledged his students. He gave positive feedback which was encouraging to a new writer.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
too long to grade work.
None
Have a better use of Laulima. Although it is understandable that we need to check into the website at least twice a week, there are no email notifications of what is new on the site. All of my other online courses notify you of any new post to either discussion boards or assignments. More notification would be nice. Also, prompt responses would also be nice. I rarely hear back from him. All my other online professors respond the same day or within a day or two.
Please make things clearer and try to explain better.
Need to be more specific on what is expected in the writing pieces. The instructions are thorough but the grading criteria is all over the place and we as beginner writers do not know and do not have the skill level to write at what you expect. At least give us a heads up of what to include in the writing pieces instead of telling us what we did wrong after.
I understand the challenges as a student to taking an online course, but would appreciate if our work and assignments were graded promptly throughout the semester in a timely manner. As an online student, we desperately need the comments of our teacher to help us improve, going forward. I think Mr. Salvador appears to be a great English teacher and would have loved to have taken this course in person, but didn't and relied tremendously on his grading of our work as we move through the course-it just didn't happen as often as I would have liked. That's my only recommendation.
Include examples of writing in each chapter in the book that we learned
Update grades quicker. I understand that as an English teacher you have to read through mountains of essays, but students like to see their grades to make sure they're staying on point.
Sometimes the assignment directions were a bit confusing and obscure. However Mr. Salvador was always available to clarify.
I felt bombarded with writing assignments. I couldn't keep up the pace. Three assignments due each week for 16 weeks was hard to maintain. I do like the assignments and discussions posted ahead of time. Not sure how to suggest a another way except losing the 3% each day when an assignment is late especially holidays and spring break. I hated I had homework during the spring break. No such thing as spring break. It just prolongs the semester.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
By responding to thier posts in a timely manner
I don't really know.
He would always have office hours.
Always answers questions through email and discussion forums. Very elaborative on tips on ow to be a better creative writer depending on the piece.
Had office hours online and was able to have office hours outside of class if made an appointment
I appreciated that he took the time to review our assignments (for example: "Chapter 2 writing project commentary," etc.) but I would have preferred that he grade more assignments versus writing up Discussion Board posts.
He responded to our comments and concerns promptly.
Offering office hours online and in person. Giving feedback to students work.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, fun writing assigments.
Not really. As with most art forms, beauty seems to be in the eye of the beholder. I think he definitely grades based on what he sees as correct, which is not bad at all, but for an online class where most of our work and teaching is done at our own through a book, we understand differently from being directly in a class. Because of this, I think grading should be done more so on attempting the assignments the best one could do.
yes, very intellectual teacher.
Yes and No. Yes because you will be challenged in the sense of being a better creative writer. No because you aren't really taught anything until after you have written your piece. You won't have a chance to really apply some of the fundamentals she wants for the current assignments.
Yes because he is a helpful teacher in teaching creative writing and very informative
yes
Yes, he seems to be a kind teacher and helpful when your learning how to write creatively.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Seems like a goo teacher
I only heard back from him a few times and he posts assignments really late at night. It was ok, but nothing amazing and it made it really hard for me to get advice. I work all day long and not being able to communicate online makes it a hard course to really grasp.
Thank you for a great semester.
Thanks for your efforts
Very good teacher
18. Other comments:
Difficult for a 200 level course, and a little too difficult for an online course with minimal communication.
Thanks
I kept forgetting about your daily office hours online. You were very faithful in logging in and being there for students. The textbook by Sellers is very interesting. I could read the chapters over and over and pull new information out each time. It almost felt at times I was reading it for the first time. I liked the exercises in the book. It helped to shape my writings for my assignments.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Great Advice! He helped me in person at his office for essays for my graduate program even though it had nothing to pertain to his class.
encouraged creativity.
Great teacher!
Taught us four types of writing forms. I took English 100 before and I didn't do these many writing on that other class.
I enjoyed this class, I had never taken an online class before and he kept it interesting by using creative examples for the assignments. I think he did a great job communicating what the assignments were.
He obviously has a good sense of humor. Gives good notes on assignments, had has interesting ideas for assignments. Is well organized in presenting online material, easy to find out what you need to be doing on a daily and weekly basis.
I thought this was a great class. I learned things about English I never knew and I am glad I chose this class.
very effective writer with clear assignment instructions and critiques of draft submissions.
Mr. Salvador was very encouraging, especially when I have felt very down on myself about completing my assignments the way I wanted. He was able to help me see the objectives of his discussions and assignments when I had a hard time understanding them.
He replies fast (online class) and that's helpful. He knows his subject well.
Mr. S is really knowledgeable about the subject, and presents things in a manner that keeps class interesting. It's almost impossible to read a course assignment with out literally laughing out loud. He is also very accessible especially for an online instructor, I've been able to get responses from him faster than teachers I see every week.
He knows what the course he is teaching. Open to help if there's confusion about the subject. Effective teacher because he explains clearly how to improve his student.
He teaches a non-traditional English class and helps you to think creatively.
He is knowledgable in his subject area and presents the material in a way that makes the assignments easy to understand
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I think to make it easier for students since it's on Laulima. I mean like putting things in certain folders and make it easier to understand. Like put all assignments in the assignment folder not in two or more folders.
Great teacher, only problem was the lack of communication from group assignments but that was more due to peers than to Salvador. Otherwise, the curriculum is good and the assignments are very clear.
No changes. His course was fairly easy to understand.

None
The only thing that I wish was different was I would have liked to have gotten my graded essays back sooner so I could know what to work on improving when doing the next essay.
I would have liked to know what the grading criteria was, maybe it was presented somewhere but I don't think I ever saw it. It would have preferred if I could have seen some assignments graded earlier, I understand that there are some glitches in laulima however that may have caused some grades not to show up. So maybe if he gave updates on what sections should be finished and returned to us, I would have been able to identify what was a glitch and what he hadn't been able to grade yet. Generally I just wanted to know more about what I was being graded on and to have seen some of those grades earlier so I could make adjustments for re-writes or the next assignments.
None, that class was fine.
i sometimes felt talked down to when posting things or submitting questions. would suggest keeping in mind that KCC students, especially those enrolled in an online class, are probably there for a reason and circumstances may mean they have less literary &/or writing experience than those in a more classic academic setting.
I have no suggestions since it was an online class. He did his part well.
The only downside of the course is that at this point, being only weeks away from the end of the semester, we've still only received one of our papers back. If we could get our papers back sooner, it would show us what we need to improve and that would allow us to do better on the next paper.
I would have liked to see my grades and my papers returned quicker.
Instead of having "4 week blocks" of assignments-- have specific set due dates for each assignment. THe syllabus was confusing because there were conflicting expectations of when assignments should be completed. If 4 weeks are allowed, full points for completing by the due date should be allowed--- not docking points for "gradual completion" it sends mixed signals, especially in an online atmosphere.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
as stated above, he helped me on papers due for other purposes other than his class. This was a clear indicator that he showed concern and was very easy to talk to.
He gave me a few chances to make up late work.
yes
Let us turn in a paper after a forum was already locked.
He was very helpful with any questions I had and also was very accommodating with my late assignments due to confusion on due dates and family illness.
I guess he was frequently available for in person and online office hours to ask questions. Was prompt in answering queries by email.
By answering PMs and chat questions.
always available for office hours which i really appreciated. often instructors are too busy to make time for students (let alone keep up with office hour availability consistently throughout the semester). it was greatly appreciated.
He was able to help me see the objectives of his discussions and assignments when I had a hard time understanding them.
He won't attack with essays or homework all at once and he spaces them out greatly. Less stress for us!
Mr. S. always listened to concerns of the students, and when multiple people addressed the same issue, he would make a class-wide announcement just in case there were other people who had the same concern but hadn't asked about it yet.
Giving feedback that helps the students understand the subject
He accessed our baselines and when someone did not know much he encouraged and reassured.
Yes, he was very understanding and willing to help me when I was concerned about my grade.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, Read above.
I would recommend him for the students with creativity. The work in his class is fun.
yes
If they like online classes and enough time to write their papers then yes.
Yes I would recommend him.
Yes I would, he has a well presented, interesting, on-line class.
I would recommend this class because it was well structured and as a result of taking it I am a more efficient writer.
sure. he is obviously very knowledgable about his subject matter and very available if you need further counseling about assignments before submitting them.
I would. He was very prompt on replies and talked through fixing a grade.
Yes. You definitely have to be willing to do the work. There are a lot of assignments that sneak up on you if you don't pay attention (which happens all the time in an online class) but he made an online English class FUN, and you almost never hear online class or English class being paired with fun.
Yes, because he is an effective teacher.
Yes, I would recommend him to students. You learn how to write better.
Yes, but unfortunately I did not have a great online experience. It was a lot to take in.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Thank you, Mr. Salvador for allowing me to learn under you. This class was fun and I have touched a side of me that i thought i lacked---Creativity.
Too much homework.
Nothing else
I enjoyed this class and enjoyed his way of keeping it interesting throughout the semester.
He likes zombies and comic books, very cool.
Nothing.
nothing really. overall good, just the sporadic moments where i felt i was being talked down to. but i suppose tone can't really be conveyed effectively through text so it's possible i just misinterpreted what way he meant to say what he was saying.
He was great overall.
I'm glad I chose him as my instructor, and I've learned a lot from him throughout the semester.
Thanks for sharing what you have and giving me the chance to learn more.
I think he is a good communicator, so taking this online class was very helpful and he was quick to respond to messages. He also made the class interesting by letting us choose what we wanted to write about for our paper. He also gave us interesting topics to work with.
The subject matter was clear and easy to understand, he was a nice instructor and I would have done much better in the course if it was on-site.
18. Other comments:
I'm not sure if that should be a change or if it's just me that can't do online courses.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He definitely has a unique way of teaching, especially when an online class lacks face-to-face interaction. I still learned many things.
I'm sure that Mr. S understands his field of study very clearly and that's always a plus.
very smart and knows his subject very well.
Accessibility, and Feedback
He motivated students to pursue certain interest by guiding us to the place where we can find it.
He's very organized and puts his expectations out there.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Uh...none that I can think of at the moment.
I would suggest being more clear on the instructions because the layout of the guidelines are difficult to read.
Posting the grades for assignments at least 1-2 weeks after submitted. Since we have about 1-2 weeks to finish assignments.

None.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Er...Although I never used it, he made a provision to allow late work for students who could not turn in assignments even in an online class.
He does office hours online and in his own office. Most of the graded assignments has helpful critique.
emails back right away and holds office hours on the live chat room
He gives very good feedback on assingments, and answers questions quickly.
When students email him he would promptly email back with answers of suggestions.
He opened help for those who needed it online. But it was hard for those who weren't available during that time.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes.
Maybe, because this course is online and it's difficult to read the tone of his comments. Sometimes it sounds a little mean, but not in the helpful mean way.
yes because you learn alot about writing
Yes, his class is very interesting and challenging, and he provides good support to students.
He's someone that motivated me to write again and thats enough for me to recommend him to others.
Yeah, sure. I liked his class. It was just hard to keep up with all the assignments with a busy schedule.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He has excellent knowledge in the subject area.
One of Normie Salvador's greatest strengths as a teacher is that he explains well on how to greatly improve your works.
Fair grading, knowledge of subject
Salvador is obviously very knowledgeable on his subject; he treats people fairly and expects people to do their best. He pushed me to do my best, at first I thought he graded very roughly and I still think so but it is this course that has pushed me towards being a better writer and student. I want an A and Salvador is certainly making me work for it. I think that Salvador is a very good teacher; I wish I had a class with him that wasn't online. Online classes are difficult but Salvador will help in whatever way he can.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
It would be nice to have grades for major papers returned in a more timely manner. Also group assignments are not very well suited for an online class.
n/a
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He made sure everyone understood and if they didn't, he would explain.
When we had the thunder storms, Salvador excused us from homework I think. I wasn't affected by the thunder storm so it didn't really apply to me. He also is understanding if you're absent as long as you let him know what's going on. He's strict but it seems like he'll do whatever he can to help you succeed.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would because overall he is a great teacher.
Yes, for all the reasons above.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Strict, smart, compassionate and challenging. Pretty good qualities in a teacher.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He gives great writing advice and helps you to open your mind to thinking and performing your best!!
His discussions on how we can improve our writing.
I am sure he was caring and knows how to write.
-Well organized syllabus
He knows the subject very well. Homework assignments and discussions were fair. Very organized. Replies fairly quick when needed.
He was very knowledgeable of his subject area. He was very understanding of our situation and concerns.
He knows this subject area really well so he was able to address any questions we had in a manner that gave us a better understanding of the material.
Great feedback on assignments
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I would take creative writing on campus next time and not online. I got a little confussed but it was my own fault and tried the best I could. I just don't do well with online classes!!
Please return our graded assignments as soon as possible.
Totally disorganized. Unacceptable that parameters of course are not posted in syllabus.g. Total points required for what grades for course and what points will be allocated for which pieces of work.
-To constantly email students about assignments/grades -To allow emails to be sent directly to him
(I'm not sure if it was the professors fault or Laulimas fault) The grades from all assignments could have been returned earlier, instead of getting them all at one time towards the end of the semester.
None
I wouldn't make any changes. The course material was very organized so we knew what to do, when to do it, and what was expected.
Perhaps have a syllabus that covers all assignments for the entire semester instead of releasing schedules monthly. This way students will be able to do work ahead of time.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He talked with us online and he sent messages and e-mails.
By answering our questions or concerns through the chat room and discussion posts on Laulima.
He answered emails fairly promptly and was always polite
Only through the Laulima Chat.
He replied back fairly quick when needed. Great responses, and they were very clear. He reminded us what was due and pointed out the errors. Very flexible too!
He was accepting and understanding of our concerns. He treated us fairly.
He was available during office hours, which were held online or we could reach him by email if we had any questions or concerns.
By responding to our weekly posts
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, he is very smart and has a great personality. He is tough on you but he does it so you can become a better writer!
Yes because although there are a lot of postings each week, it will help us in the long run if we want to improve our writing.
No, not worth spending the money on this course--what you learn will come from reading the book
Yes because the course was very interesting.
Yes. Besides the fact that assignments were not returned on time, he is a great professor!
Yes, his course was very interesting.
Yes, he is very intelligent and he knows this subject area really well so he knows how to teach and explain things in ways that will help his students have a better grasp on the material.
I would recommend him because he makes sure his students understand the material and answers questions.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
I hope to meet you one day in person!

Perhaps this class is better in person as I think Mr. Salvador would be a positive one on one teacher.
Thank you for all your insight.
I enjoyed having him as my professor this semester.
I was glad this was an online class

Mr. Salvador was unable to organize this class. Total grade goals/peramaters were never posted, requirements were often unclear, assignments from January still unmarked near end of term, it was hard to know how one was progressing as assignments that were marked were marked so late. Comments were always kind but not instructive--more in the "you didn't" vein than "here is an example of what I mean." The book was excellent but I learned absolutely nothing, beyond what I read in this book, from this class. Very disappointing.
It was hard for me to write everyday. To become a writer. I found some of the topics were boring for me and I had a hard time to write about it. I got lost with all the assignments.
not really

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She is very prompt and organized.
He uses different teaching techniques.
he made sure i understood the assignments..
He is very knowledgeable on the subject matter and is clear with what he expects from his students.
Relating to students, understanding. Helping out with assignments and good constructive feedback.
The instructor is good at giving constructive critisism.
He's very knowledgable of what he teaches. It's good to see a teacher highly interested in what they teach. He was also very understanding and helpful.
He is very accessible and is always very fast when replying back to questions or emails.
He was willing to help, all we needed to do is ask.
He knows his english and tries to get into the essays that are turned in by students.
When i had a problem and i needed to talk to him in person he really made time to see me and explain the homework better for me so that i can do a good job and get a good grade. He also explained the assignments very easily so that i could understand it seeing that english is my second language.
Very willing to do what he can to help students and makes assignments very clear and gives details as to what he expects to be done
Mr. Salvador was well organized.
explains things well
very knowledgeable
He has an endearing love for English/writing.
For my first online course I found his lecture notes easy to understand and helpful. He gave good constructive feedback.
His feed backs to our assignments really help me write better. Also his way of explaining a new lesson it understandable.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
To accept some late assignments but dock off some points.
The forum discussions were confusing for a first time person taking an online course.
To give first time students that never used Laulima for a on line class, a little more time to finish assignments.

Needs to grade papers in a more timely fashion.
Just wish he gave the grades for assignments faster.
Keep the students gradebook updated. I don't think its the students job to ask for their assignments and grades from the teacher. If we have a deadline to meet on turning in work, I think you should return graded work in a timely manner.
From what i understood this was his first year at the Kapiolani Community College campus and i think he did a great job for a first time. Do i think he should make any changes. NO. I think he is doing fine.
Easier access to group discussions- not to keep everything in the discussion forum

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
That her office hours were mentioned.
He could have posted deadlines sooner under assignments.
A student like me needs a little more attention. Like a e-mail from the teach saying to do my work be for its to late or just a little warning. I know it's college but we have a lot of things going on in our lives so it helps.
He made himself available to his students, and was sure to let them know when he IS available.
Understand what a student is going through
He showed concern by responding to all of my questions.
If you had any questions he made sure to answer them promptly.
He would e-mail us and let us know if we had any questions. He always let us know when he was in the office.
He doesn't. Unless you ask a question first.
A lot of times i had problems understanding the assignments and he really made time so that i could talk to him face to face so that he could better explain it to me so that i would do a good job.
Gave helpful advice in chat room and made sure everyone had ways to contact him
He replies to my emails or answers my questions in the chat room.
she always made her office available

When an assignment s returned he included his ideas to improve the assignment. Also he suggested things to push his students towards their interests / future career.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes, because it's an online class and it may be convenient for students to just go on their computers instead of going to class.
Once I understood how the class was yes I would recommend him.
Yes he is a good teacher. He is very direct but its my first time on a online class, so I have no one to come pair him to?
I enjoyed being part of Mr. Salvador's class; I would definitely recommend his class to other students as well. As I previously stated, he knows his subject well and he knows how to teach it in ways we can understand.
Yes. Good teaching
Yes, because he is fair and does a good job of explaining things.
yes, I really enjoyed his class. Everything was easy to understand.
Yes, because he would help if we needed it.
If you are the type to ask questions, then this class will be good for you. Personally, I rather just do my work by reading the instructions. So for me, This class wasn't exactly a walk in the park. The instructions aren't as clear as you would expect.
Yes. Because he really knows the subject very well.
Yes; gives fun educational assignments and clearly states what he expects
Yes, I would because his material is easy to follow.
yes she was very informative and always provided recouses and feedback
yes, very knowledgeable
Yes I would because his course and assignments really give your brain more creativity.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
-- snipped --
I think he is a pretty good teacher.
-- snipped --
I'm pretty sure you are a great writer with a college degree to back it up, but just because you're good at writing, and good at learning, doesn't equate to you being good at teaching. I know that Laulima and Oceanic Cable was part of the problem, but these aren't what makes your instructions unclear. I do think you are a good teacher, that is very passionate about english and writting, and I would take another class from you.
Because i am an online students i did not know what to expect. But after meeting him he was very nice and understanding. He took the time to talk to me and explain the course to me so that i would be able to understand it.
Thank you for teaching how to be a better writer and a critical thinker.

I learned a lot this semester thanks to a good professor.

Your criticism can be harsh, but it's ok if the criticism is constructive. And the student understands the constructive qualities of your criticism. I didn't understand some of your criticism, which made the class slightly difficult to endure.
I hope i did good. I think i did to the best of my ability so hopefully i would get a good grade. Mr. Salvador may you and you're family have a Merry Christmas and a safe and Happy New Year. Thank you for teaching me the ENG 100 course. I really learned a lot about the language.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
None.
To make the assignments as detailed as possible.
None!!!
If you don't want the due date of the assignments to be open, you should realize that students are irresponsible and if you allow them to do their assignments by the end of the semester, they will ALWAYS wait until the end of the semester. I know as a professor you have the right to change due dates but I don't think that the way you did it, (assigning it to be open for the semester, then on Oct.27 changing it to be due in one day, one week, then one week after that). I think that was very short notice and unfair.
I would suggest that right from the beginning of the semester you set a date for when all of the assignments are actually due. But I also liked having time to finish it all and submit them.
Dont set due dates and then change them. Just because your students did not compltete the tasks WELL BEFORE they were due does not meant that they do not care.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
She's patient, kind, and extremely helpful.
Mr. S provided an open communication pathway either via private messages or through the chat feature on Laulima.
Professor Salvador's major strength is that he stays in close contact with his students. He is very encouraging and supportive and he seems to really care about his students. He tries to gently prod the student toward his/her potential. He has a nice soft teaching technique.
Very understanding. Very helpfull in answering questions in a timely manner.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
none this class was smooth.
actually correct assignments within a couple days that it's turned in give us an overall grade at least once before the course is over and when returning a assignment have constructive things to say with points backing up his ideas
I suggest facilitating discussions about the lectures. Asking a few questions about it didn't really clarify what you wanted us to take from it. A simple discussion post stating, "Read this, this, and this. Post here if you have any questions," doesn't really open a pathway for that. Since it is a public forum for the entire class, I believe unless a post was mandatory, no one wanted to post that they didn't understand a lecture.
None. For me, he was perfect.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
Mostly by being helpful in comments to assignments and allowing re submitting.

He always gave us updates on grading progress or times for his 'office hours' in the chat room.
He made himself available. He held "office Hours" regularly and responded promptly to everyone. With me personally he took the time to encourage me to develop my ability in terms of writing. I was really surprised.

16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. She is super cool.
definitely not, he was lenient on things being turned in but thats because he couldn't correct anything on time or within a reasonable one
I would, if they wanted a professor that required you to do LOTS of independent thinking. Maybe it's because this was my first online course of this nature, but it does require lots of learning from a book, rather than a professor.
Yes because he takes the time to reach each student. I think he would be especially good with students who find writing challenging. He leads but with a soft technique that would not intimidate a student who lacked confidence.
yes. Because they can learn a lot from his class and exspecially the way he teaches in general.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
She seems to love what she does.
he needs more organization and structure
All in all, I thought Mr. S is an easy going person. I personally thought his grading would be harsher, but after receiving my first paper back, I'll admit I began to slack for the rest of them. I feel like I took an online English course, but I'm still not comfortable with citing, and bibliographies, or proper research methods. Maybe in the 200 level English I'll feel more confident?
He is an excellent teacher for my style of learning. He and I had a lot of tech problems but that was because Laulima needs some improvements. He met those challenges and made allowances for the tech problems in his grading. I couldn't ask for more.
He is really easy to talk to and very patient with the student.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Was knowledgeable and encouraged students to think about the readings.
He is willing to respond to students concerns. He is very passionate about English.
He knew his stuff, not much teachers will know their material. He also gave way for us to express ourselves through our writing. He even said that he was learning each students writing styles. I thought that was awesome of him to engage with us by taking the time to get to know us. Instead of just reading papers and giving them grades.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
Allow a reasonable amount of time to do assignments. The course started off really slowly, and then, three large papers were assigned in the last three weeks, along with the expectations of additional readings. While the amount of assignments are not unreasonable, the time in which the students are allowed to complete them is very unreasonable, given that other classes are also assigning end of the year papers as well. Finally, assignments were not graded and returned in a reasonable manner. It is difficult to write papers without having an indication of the requirements necessary to obtain a good grade. Out of the nine papers assigned by the last week of instruction, only three were returned. I would appreciate quicker feedback on assignments.
Try to be more physically available on chat. Don't make instructions too wordy.
No changes. I like how the course was set up, though I wish I knew my grade. I know I turned assignments in but is it A work, semi alright work or just trash? I'd like to hope for the A.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
After the tsunami disaster in Japan, the instructor was very accommodating to students who may have been affected.
He responds to student's emails, questions, comments, concerns, etc.
He interacted with us via email/laulima. He was open during chat hours, if not we could always email him & he would return emails fairly promptly.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would, his class works well with busy schedules. He knows English well and the activities were very interesting and informative.
Yes, he's fun. He knows his assignments and he doesn't shy away from different perspectives.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Overall seemed knowledgeable, but would appreciate quicker response and return of assignments. Also, a better organized class syllabus of assignments to make the course more balanced throughout the entire semester.
He is very kind.
Awesome class! I truly enjoyed learning and reading stories I wouldn't have.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
he goes on in to extension about giving examples story telling and describing a scene or a movie human-like
He's quite personable and easy to approach and talk to about anything. The readings he's had us do have been varied and he doesn't only use classic examples but more updated and interesting excerpts. I like the fact that he puts things that interest students into the lessons. At least they were interesting for me...
He knew the subjects he was teaching. Has a high understanding of the material already and can input his own opinions into the lessons.
Class was fun and paper topics were interesting.
his concern for students.
He is very knowledgable about the subject and is able to convey his knowledge to us to help our learning.
He knew what he was talking about.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
use the white board more and show movies instead of explaining them be more organized
-Preparing a syllabus for the students at the beginning of the semester -Better presentation of material
Relax a little bit more, we don't bite. I wouldn't take anything personally either.
The long evaluation sheets were not needed maybe a page long is enough.
Nada
make the class more fun, don't lecture so much, be more engaging.
None at all.
He was good.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
he doesnt care if you are late because he believes that each student is a "tuition paying adult" and is old enough to direct themselves ask a questions
Consistently reminding us what his office hours are. He remembers individual assignments that you're working on. Offers extra credit with variety so not only a certain niche of interests gets piqued for the work. Asks questions and then waits for an answer. That's more than some of my other professors.
Always reminded us about when due dates were and told us ahead of time what we were going to do. Like we have an essay due dec 2 he would let us know 2 weeks ahead in advance to work on it. Also took us to the library when he found out about new resources that would help us with our papers.
He was available for help when needed
took the time to talk to us each about our essays
He gave us a card with assignments he didn't have for us so that we could bring them in to still get points.
He showed us what missing assignments we had.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
idk. yes if you like to hear chill lectures and write papers on your own. not really if you need good guidance with your writings
No. He wasn't prepared for the semester at all
Definitely. He's fairly easy going, easy to understand, and takes the time to answer whatever questions you have. He tests the waters to see what the class knows as a whole and then moves on from there instead of plodding on with a lesson plan without regard for our general attention spans and knowledge. He also planned the papers so students that do their assignments on time won't be slammed at the end of the semester.
Yes. pretty chill teacher class isnt to hard. everything is explained well and understandable. always there to help if needed.
no..unless someone was good at writing essays the class just wasn't engaging
Yes I would. Great English teacher, I had fun in his class and was able to do well thanks to his teaching.
Yes. He's a very chill teacher that's easy to get along with and explains things thoroughly.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
-- snipped --
I think he's a nice person. Went out of his way to help a directionally challenged student.
Keep up the teaching. Your a good teacher and is very educated. Please share your knowledge to the future students.

Wow, there's a lot of room to leave comments but I don't have a whole lot. Seriously, good teachers won't use up this much space. I think only crappy instructors will have all this space taken up for complaints. Normie is a good teacher, so space will be in abundance. :P
Even though this is anno. I'd like to say thank you for the great semester. my first year in college and thought english would be a pain in the ass but really wasn't to tough. I could understand and im glad you were my teacher. THank you again and good luck to you in the future.
make learning more fun!
