| I am majoring in elementary education and this course has definitely provided me with the
knowledge and skills that are needed in this career. What I have noticed and experienced is that
science is not too much of a focus in schools because of Hawaii State Assessments. This course has
showed me the importance of teaching this subject to students. Science is needed for kids to
explore their environment. Dr.Jones has taught a variety of lessons that I hope to bring into my own
classroom in the future. |

in class were fun and enjoyable. I liked that he provided the standards used to teach the lessons too!
So he taught me that it is possible to have students meet the science standards in a variety of

| This course was also taught by Dr. Myers. There was a strong sense of collaboration and give and take with regard to the focus of the class. Elements that one was responsible for were left to the management of that instructor which gave the students a better understanding of what was required.
I still think the attendance policy is too harsh. Make it 2 absences. Particularly now that this is moving to block 3 students should have a much stronger working rapport with classmates and all presentation materials are disseminated via Web. A letter grade reduction for 1 day of missed class really hammers the students that face a crisis mid semester. |

| He was very friendly and easy to talk to. At the beginning of the semester, I was fully expecting another nightmare like my previous online class (ICS 101), and since I was having a lot of trouble getting up-and-running, Professor Jones met with me and laid it all out in a simple way that eliminated all of my confusion and made the whole structure much easier to understand. Throughout the semester, he responded to my emails promptly with everything I needed to know, and he was able to meet with me if I had questions. He holds optional attendance class sessions on Mondays at 11AM (these are in the same classroom as my Monday 930AM class, so I see him enter as I am leaving), and he is always there early to start setting up while talking to my Geology teacher. Although I never went to these Monday sessions, I can imagine how helpful they were for students who were having trouble because I would have been so happy to be able to meet with my other online class teacher last semester to discuss the many problems I had with the curriculum. This semester, every week when I would submit my assignments, I can't think of a time when they weren't graded the next day. I am also happy that he offered extra credit at the end of the semester, because that really offset my lower grades from January. Overall, he was an excellent teacher! |

| Dr.Jones geology class was one of my favorite classes. Very easy going,
helpful, and funny, he is a professor that anyone can approach. What I really
liked is that he taught science in a very different way. Instead of giving us
books and paperwork to struggle through and scratch our heads at, Dr. Jones
gave us easy, almost child like experiments and examples that completely
helped everyone understand earth science. I felt mind blown every time I
realized how his simple methods of teaching enabled me to comprehend the
complexity of chemical processes, meteorology,etc. If I could take his class
again, I would. He is by far the best science teacher I've ever had. |

| This course provided excellent resources in teaching science through many fun and easy practical
science experiments that were grade-level appropriate. I feel more confident as a teacher now in
teaching this subject. |

creativity, it can be fun for students and instructors. Dr. Jones also taught me that science
instruction can be very flexible and does not have to adhere to boring or rigid guidelines. Dr. Jones
also taught me how to write the 5e lesson plan, which I really liked. |

| Dr. Jones has a great teaching style. He does very well already. I enjoyed being in his class. |
| I feel that Dr. Jones was a great instructor and should not change his teaching styles, the only thing I would like to say is that the off focus tangents that a certain student kept going off on were so off subject and irrelevant to the class that the other students (including myself) were so bored that we began talking about other things with our neighbors. So to avoid this in the future, I would suggest not indulging similar students in their off topic tangents. Other than that, Dr. Jones was a very professional and well informed instructor that I wish taught more classes, which I could take. |
| the course was a little unorganized, we didn't know when assignments were due. maybe for the
future you could come up with a pre-determined list of assignments the students will be doing
throughout the semester so that they know exactly what is expected of them and when things are
due. i felt like assignments were assigned randomly and because of this, it would've helped to
maybe have reminders, i know you did this more towards the end of the course which helped a lot. |

| This course really helped me understand the dynamics of weather and climate. I was somewhat
aware of earth science and of this subject matter in general, but Meteorology 207 defined weather
for me and illuminated concepts that I didn't even realize how unclear my understandings were of
them. |

| The only suggestion that I have is Dr. Jones should announce when we have discussions to complete and send out an e-mail notification. There were a few times this semester where I had no idea that a discussion was due because I don't constantly check the forums. However, I constantly check my e-mail so some kind of notification would definitely help improve this course. |
| The only change I would make is to have the electric car challenge due at an earlier time in the semester. It was very hard to concentrate on the final signature assignment and the electric car challenge at the end of the semester together because they were both due on the same day. |

| Not too much homework so it's good for those who don't like homework but each class is full of activities and can get very busy. The amount of information that is dished out can be overwhelming but all of the material that is given out in class is for the students and they can read them later at their leisure. A few big assignments but more than enough time is given to complete them and the teacher is always readily available if help is needed |

| I enjoyed the environment created by Dr. Jones througout the course. He is approachable and gives individual help for students when need. Overall he is helpful during class activities and even outside of class. |

| Many times I felt like Professor Jones was teaching to the four students in his class which he felt understood the information he was conveying. Otherwise, the rest of us were constantly reminded as a class that we were ignorant and that 3rd & 4th graders could do group activities faster than we can.
While I enjoyed the group activities, I always felt that we were rushed in class to do them. Some students need more time to comprehend what they are learning than others. I did not appreciate the comments he would make about how some students could do activites in 10 mins. and others would take longer.
Good teachers, teach to the many and not just the few. My suggetion would be to encourage those who need extra help, and understand that just because students learn at different rates does not mean they are ignorant. Be-littling the class because they are not proficent in math or comprehending the assignment does not help students strive to do better. |

I don't think without his daily activities with every assignment I would've been able to grasp the material fully that was being covered it's like you didn't even need the text book and when you referred back to the text book you already knew exactly what they were talking about and how each topic we covered functioned and what it was. Great Professor and awesome class especially the yummy snacks we could eat with each activity we did. |

| Practicum is an amazing learning experience. Being in the field and actually around the students and
mentor teachers helps me tremendously. I also learned much from the reflections of my experiences

| This was the field experience component of block C. Students were placed into a K-3 classroom with a mentor teacher. The time spent in the classroom and the time spent interacting with peers and professors discussing what we experience in the classroom was very helpful for my professional development as an elementary ed. major. |

| I would recommend to the students who take this course to keep a journal with them in practicum,
this always helped me remember what happened. This was especially true during a hectic day. Not
to mention that I could easily write down my fleeting thoughts and use them for reflection later. |
| Students should be expected to keep a journal of what they do in the classroom each day. This was a suggestion from my mentor teacher. She said that it would validate that we are observing and learning. It would also help the student when it comes time to write papers. There has to ba a balance there though because you don't want the student writing in their journals more than they are observing. |

rest of my other classmates' blogs that are also in Block D instead of only 7 students. There is a lot
of information lost and not shared with each other because of this class separation of blogs and
course numbers. I really would have liked to hear what is happening in some of my classmates'
practicum setting and how I would have dealt with it. I would also like to have a resource center
where we could all upload our lesson plans to one another and collect resources that we could use
in our future classrooms. |

| Dr Jones is a wonderful teacher that approaches teaching in his own unique way. He always praises the positives and can discuss improvements without making the student feel bad. He has had experience with many levels of education and that helps him to advise any student teacher on ways to address difficulties in the classroom. |

feel very comfortable with him. Dr. Jones is very helpful with his knowledge and passion for science.

But Dr. Jones made me realize that science is fun and I truly enjoyed myself in class. He inspired me to teach science as much as possible in my future classroom. |

| I thought that everything about the course was great. However, I believe that perhaps actually getting a different book would be highly beneficial. After all, we rarely used the book that was forced upon us because Dr. Jones did not find it helpful at all. |

He also provided us with handouts on each of the activities that we can use in the future. |

| I think the only suggestion I have to make is that I wish Dr. Jones was a bit more organized. Sometimes, his thoughts were all over the place and I didn't know what was due during the next class period.
For example, we had an online discussion and honestly, I had no idea that we even had one. Perhaps Dr. Jones could have emphasized it and made it clearer because quite a few of the students in our class missed it and/or did it late.
Overall, my major suggestion is just more clarity. I would like perhaps a more specific schedule that tells us exactly when things are due so I do not miss an assignment in the future again. |

| Please be clearer in assignments as there are many questions that needs to be clarified. Should
have used the textbook more as we were required to purchase the textbook and have not used it at
all. Please specify if Laulima will be in usage as there was an assignment where many of us did not
get the message that there was an assignment due. Please have assignments stated and ready to go
at the beginning of the semester so the students are aware of what is asked of them, especially
when they are taking more than one class so they may plan their study time efficiently. |

| Overall, Dr. Jones is a very awesome professor. He tries his best to answer all questions and if he doesn't know the answer, he will do his best to find out for us.
He also does a lot of hands-on activities and I truly enjoy myself during them. He is one of the few EDEE professors who teaches in this manner and I really like the change. After all, if you are going to tell me that teaching in a hands-on manner is good, then I would respect you more if you actually practiced what you preached. Dr. Jones does just that and I highly respect him for it. :)
Overall, he's a great professor for his first semester and I believe once he gets things set up like a schedule and gets to choose his own books/assignments, he will be a very effective professor. |
