10. What did you like best about the course?
I thought this course was very relevant for my career. The assignments were useful and helped me improve. The class had students of very different experience levels and backgrounds, and I think Junko did an excellent job reaching every student. She made herself very available outside of class and was incredibly approachable.
The micro teaching were very useful and appropriate.
No tests. The presentations were a lot more relevant and helpful for preparing future teachers.
Most of the course work was really relevant to my future career and because of that I didn't mind if it was difficult. I also liked how flexible Junko was with the deadlines especially if she saw that we were having difficulties with the assignment. It was also easy to schedule appointments to meet with her outside of class.
I think Junko did a good job as our instructor. She is organized and always come to class on time. Very approachable and has a good personality. This course helps us building up the foundation for our future teaching career.
I liked the type of assignments we had that they were things you would use in real life after college.
She is very flexible with deadlines if you ask with a valid reason and that you do try to do the work. She is very nice and helpful in getting her students to understand how and what to teach and gives feedback on how to improve.
small class size, comfortable
Junko was flexible in terms of assignment due and meeting schedule
I really liked the micro-teachings. Its good practice for SLS majors who plan on teaching in the future.
We had some practical assignments, like making lesson plans, CV, and cover letter. Those knowledge are useful in the future. And micro-teaching was a good experience for me. Since I'm not good at public speaking, that was good experience.

11. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Though I know Junko values being understanding as a teacher, I believe the class would be improved of Junko was a tad *less* understanding in regards to late assignment submissions. In my opinion, I believe some students may have gradually lost respect for the class as the semester went on, turning in assignments later and later. Since Junko offers many extra credit opportunities and allows for resubmissions if necessary, I think Junko already displays herself as an understanding teacher, I think she should lessen her opportunities for extensions, perhaps only allowing students to ask for extensions once or twice over the semester.
Work on lecturing skills. Stop requiring a CV and cover letter as an assignment. I think both assignments are a waste of class time and pre-mature. This assignment would fit better in the capstone course. I think time used on the cv and cover letter, could be better spent learning teaching theory.
There were a lot of assignments due in this course, including first drafts and revisions. Cutting back on the feedback would help students turn in assignments on time. Also flexibility on assignments, especially lesson plans. Not everyone's lesson plan needs to be the same.
One thing that she could improve is the amount time she spends explaining how to do the assignments or what she expects for the assignments. While I still think that it was important that she went over the chapters in the book, I felt that there could have been more time set aside for explaining what she was expecting for some assignments especially in the beginning (lesson plan, teaching philosophy). Also I was a little confused when she provided examples of the assignments and she told the class not to follow them because they had their flaws. Examples should be the exemplars of the class. I think if she were to continue to provide assignment samples she should also include the teacher feedback for these samples so that students can at least see where the flaws are.
This course is very intense, lots of assignments, especially can be very challenge for L2 learners. Junko is pretty helpful when someone who needs reasonable extension.
I think she could have assigned our assignments better before one assignment was due she would already be talking about and assigning another. That is overwhelming for students who have other classes as well. Her feedback is helpful but at some point should realize too much feedback can kind of discourage students.
She can teach students how can we do or improve our assignments rather than giving too much feed back and correction. She corrects very different points every time I submit drafts or finals. She could give feedback at once. I dont understand why she gives that much correction every time.
There were way too many assignments in this class. At certain points during the semester I felt overwhelmed with this class because once you fall behind, assignments begin to overlap each other making it very difficult to catch up. I feel like I spent more time doing work for this class then any of my other classes. I think reducing the number of assignments will defiantly help improve this course.
She can improve how to talk and explain about lecture and assignment. Since this course had a lot of assignments, the deadlines were confusing. And how she explained them and instructions about the assignments were not clear enough. So when I was doing assignments, I often didn't get what I was supposed to do for the assignment. She sometimes explained too specific points, that made us confused more. Instead of explaining those too specific points, she should have explained more general points and made the instruction clearer.

26. Other comments:
Junko is a good and approachable teacher. She is doing a good job!
Thank you for the class, Junko. See you around on campus.
She gives too much feed back and correction and that makes me I am doing so bad. Even though her evaluation is reasonable, her feed back made me very depressed. And the way she gives feedback is not kind but kind of angry when she is in bad mood. Because of over feedback, I even thought about dropping out this course.
I felt the grading was too harsh and there was not enough flexibility with the assignments. The assignments had to be done exactly how she wanted which didn't allow the students to be creative. I felt like I had very little control of my work because I had to focus so much on doing exactly what Junko wanted so I can get a passing grade. The quality that Junko wants the assignments is a little unreasonable too. And also when I submitted drafts there was too much feedback. With the excessive feedback and the very high standards I began to feel discouraged with the course.
She was so flexible and available, so I could easily have a meeting with her and get some feedback and advice. and that was so helpful for my learning. Just I could not concentrate in the classroom enough. That was maybe because her talking was a bit slow and she did not emphasize on important points, which made me difficult to concentrate on the lecture. But besides those points, she was a good teacher and i thought the assignments and tasks were practical and helpful for the our future.
