7. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I found out alot of new vocab and I enjoyed the writing assignments. I learned many things about persuasion and sterotypes.
In this class the most valuable and helpful aspect of the course was the organization of the presentation. There was a lot of information to go through in a short amount of time, and I feel she did a great job in by choosing the important parts of the material to go over in class. The powerpoint presentations were really organized and clear, and I also enjoyed the other presentations she did. Also, her use of other media like video clips helped to go into more detail interesting parts of the chapters.
Class discussions, textbook, powerpoint slides
The textbook was great, and I really enjoyed reading it. Dana was always helpful and available to us. Here powerpoint presentations were clear, and straight to the point.
I am more of an auditory learner, so I really enjoyed that the class was part lecture. I also like that the powerpoint presentations were made available for review. The supplementary videos/clips were all relevant, and they did well to highlight the specific theory or concept being discussed at the time. Class was always a very comfortable environment, but rather different from any other psychology class I've taken at UH. Mainly, I'm used to large lecture classes, not small close-knit ones. But everyone was really respectful and it was a safe environment for discussion. The instructor was always open to discussion and encouraging. A lot of the examples she gave made concepts/information stick better.
Since the subject of social psychology can be applied to every day life, I enjoyed learning how to apply different concepts/theories to my life. I enjoyed learning about how we act in social situations and why. In my daily life I find that I'm more aware of how I react in certain situations depending on who is around, who I am within that group, etc. I found working in small groups to be less intimidating than speaking in front of the whole class, so I enjoyed that aspect of this class. Although I didn't like the idea of homework, I ended up liking the short papers better than trying to think of something on the spot in class. I was able to think clearly about what I wanted to say. I also liked the use of youtube/videos in the lecture. It was a great way to illustrate theories/concepts in action rather than reading it from the book and trying to imagine the scenarios.
Teacher was very helpful, and knowledgeable about every section, and always had a very positive up beat attitude that made learning, and coming to class more enjoyable.
I thought that it was helpful how we covered what we read for homework in a succinct fashion during class. This not only cleared up what confused me in the reading, but also helped me organize my thoughts.
It was very interesting course and i fell like i learned a lot.I liked the videos that were shown during the course as they were all really interesting/entertaining yet still relevant to the course.
8. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
I felt everything was interesting since I have a strong passion for Psychology and Dana was just an amazing teacher.
The least valuable and helpful aspect of the course, I feel, was having to bring our textbook everyday. I'm sure no one likes to carry books with them at school, and it was inconvenient because I only used it once in a while during class.
I think small group discussions are useful, but when asked specifically about real-life experiences while discussing as a class, it's hard to come up with something right on the spot. And there are some things that we've never experienced before. For example, when we go to romantic relationships, I don't have a lot to go on, so I honestly did not have anything interesting to contribute! I think working in groups is a good method, but I also think it may be a bit counterproductive to discuss exam answers together. It is not as troublesome if you and your partner/group have different "wrong answers", but if you have the same "wrong answers", it's really hard to figure out what's right and what isn't. Also, I don't think it's that helpful to have students present on concepts -- while we can explain certain things, I feel like we'll miss on important points. And in the case of wrong information or interpretation, I think it's hard to go back and correct it. That is, that wrong information is probably what's going to stick out.
There's not much I didn't like about the class. There were certain students who I felt wasted class time that was valuable to the rest of us who were taking the class seriously, but I don't know if there's anything an instructor can do about that issue.
Book was too expensive.
I can't think of anything that wasn't valuable or helpful in this course; everything we did inside and outside of class was relevant to what we were learning.
The course was really condensed, but that is kinda expected from a summer school course.

17. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Less multiple choice exams and more writing assignments.
The biggest setback about this course was that there was so much information to take in in so little time. Other than that, one thing I would have liked is if the instructor gave us discussion questions before class so that we would be prepared before class, thereby devoting more time to actual discussion.
I just wish we had a few more days to go over the other sections we didn't have time to cover!
It's actually hard to say, given that this is a semester course being taught in six weeks. I would have liked to linger on certain topics, but that would have been impossible because of the time constraint.
Maybe making sure that we cover all the important points in the chapters assigned before the test, in case anyone is confused about a point in the reading and is hoping that it would be discussed in class. I don't think asking if anyone did not understand anything in the homework prior to the test is a good way to go about this because of the pluralistic ignorance effect.
I feel that we fell behind a couple times throughout the course, but I didn't feel that was much of a problem. The course was really good and I don't feel a whole lot needs to be changed.

Dana is an awesome teacher who has a lot of enthusiasm for teaching. She comes in prepared everyday and has a lot of energy. She listening thoughtfully and gives sincere and honest appreciation to all the students and thinks everyones opinion is important. Keep on teaching!
Dana Arakawa is a wonderful instructor who is extremely organized and uses the media in a way that makes learning interesting. She tries her best to engage her students so that they are active learners, and her enthusiasm is apparent.
I have taken multiple Psychology courses, and was not impressed with any of them until Dana's course. I actually feel good about being a psychology major now. She made the class interesting and enjoyable.
It's been fun, and I'm looking forward to this last week.
Dana is awesome!
I know I sometimes didn't seem to be enjoying your class, but I really was- I'm sorry if I worried you! Thank you, and I hope you enjoy the remaining two months of summer! P.S. You are the happiest professor I've ever taken a class from!

11. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
I think the formatting is really effective: I like that we try interventions and talk about them, I like the "apply to yourself" focus on Thursdays and "apply to the world" focus on Fridays, I like the in-class discussions, I like the video-clips of researchers presenting their work, I like having guest lecturers, and I liked that midway through the class she asked for feedback on what we wanted to learn or any suggestions through an anonymous email.
-Applying interventions into our lives outside of class -Small group discussions -Availability of the instructor -Engaging presentations using various media -Games to help us remember and understand content
Prezi presentations, class participation, and relating material to real life situations (like videos and activities).
The content was very relatable and really made an impact on my everyday life.
12. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
I don't tend to like group work usually, but I can tell that people learn well by explaining material to the class even though it's uncomfortable.

I can't think of a single thing I learned that isn't valuable.

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
I felt like the amount of material in the syllabus surpassed the amount of time we have in class, and that's probably because it's summer and there's less class time in general, but I think we've still covered everything although in a different order.

I understand having an hour & 15 minutes everyday isn't in her control, but it seemed like we were a little bit behind a number of times. Maybe planning a little less stuff to go over during class would help? I don't know.
