The assignments were challenging but not to overwhelming.

I need this course to graduate.i enjoyed this class. it made me a better writer.

Misty helped me become a better writer,and also helped me understand how to organized my essay papers much better. Essays were a lot easier and fun to do with the undemanding of how to do theses , topics and supports following conclusion. She taught me how to organized a paper, sort of like when you learn how to read a map, then you know where are you going. the same things with essays the harder thing to do is get organized but once you do it is a lot easier.

4.14.13. Y.T.Marroquin The learning to write according to format. MLA struture and citations. It was valid to understsand the importance on not plagerising others material, and it was informitive to learn how to cite others work so that they recieve proper credit. I enjoyed Ms Carmichaels approuch to this class, which is one hard class, she kept it upbeat, she provided us with all her wit,humer, put us in teams, all to get the goods down, get the material, and even tho I am just learning this material, how to of proper writing, the new words, vocabularay, I am confident, that it can be learned, by consistant working at it.....Aloha

I liked how involved and willing Misty was to help and do what needs to be done.

Hybrid class was very suited to me.

I like the way her teaching. I feel more comfortable to learn baout writing skills in this hybrid class than usual class, because I have enough time to think about the topic of essay.

I enjoyed the examples and optional extra credit write ups. She explained how to use laulima I was able to do my work. Things were well explained.

Misty gave a recorded message to give input on graded papers. She also had worksheets to cover different citing methods that helped when writing the Research paper.

All of the required papers greatly helped with the course. Professor gave perfect amounts of time to complete each project. Always clearly stated when projects due dates were and constantly reminded class when up coming projects were due. Always provided help and was always able to contact professor either by phone or email, replied within just a few hours or a day at the most.

She is an awesome teacher! One of the best english teachers that I had so far. She makes learning fun and the way she presents information and the assignments to us, was interesting and kept us invovled.

Misty is very helpful and funny, so it makes the course more enjoyable. Great on-line learning experience.

I liked the way she was very clear on what she expected from us and what we were to do in order to acquire the skills this course would grant us. There wasn't so much work that we were to have multiple classes we would be overwhelmed. It was easy to commmunicate to her what problems I was having, and I like how quickly, and thoroughly she was able to help.

Maybe not making it a hybrid class.

Maybe more essays and more homework. I am not sure because it work for me the way it was.

Don't make it so compulsurtory,in order to learn, to digest the material it takes working with the material,more Socretes approuch, the student may be good at some aspect of the material and suck royal at other aspects of it,for exsample:Trying to go it alone, without Teacher, is like sailing in the dark, without even the stars to nagavaite by,Teacher tells you right away what you are missing and how to correct it, no mattter how on line expert one is, nothing, can replace that one on one, The teachers inspiration,directions, and plain old haveing that knack, for being able to TEACH!

Keep up the enthusiasm really makes the class less boring.

Direction of compare/contrast essay in the section of assignment was complicated.

This class is always a joy. everyone in the class got along with eachother. Misty is very organized.

Misty is one of the best English teacher i have had in Hawaii Community College.

I know, this class was quite a challenge, and I will keep on taking English till I get it, how to, and on time, now that I am more computer savey!

I enjoyed this class!

I love Ms. Carmichaels, physical class but, struggled with the online parts of this course. I felt disconnected from the subject and was not able to secure the valuable knowledge that Misty posses. She is a wonderful professor and is very effective as an in class intructor. Thank Misty.

This was a tough course but thanks to the great teachings of the professor I had no problem putting in the time to create great papers.

I would love to take her class again in the future if she is teaching any of the courses that I will need to take.

I really enjoyed taking Misty's class, even though the material wasn't exactly "likeable", Misty's teaching style made it bearable. I have come away with a better understanding of what academic writing is about, but I will possibly still need more time to refine my abilities. I am very thnakful I had taken this class and would recommend Misty to thers who are looking to take the course.

I liked how easy it was to learn the material and it wasn't strenuous to learn.

I like how misty will give us time to make up our assignments

I liked the way she used the VARK system. VARK helped identify your style of learning.

I love the way Misty teaches her class. It motivates me to do my best on the assignments given. When Misty is asked a question whether if it's from myself or another classmate, she answer the question clearly and understandable to for others.

I enjoyed the way she teached the course work. Making it more exciting to learn.

great course learned alot more then last semester in my previous eng22 class

Misty uses different techniques to each individuals learning abilities. When you ask her a question, she does everything in her power to answer your questions. If she canÊ»t answer your question, she will search for the answer and get back to you in a timely manner. She sits with each student for a couple of conference times to go over with them what and how they can approve before taking the final exam.

I really enjoyed that she gave a test to see how we are learn and that use that to help each one of us learn

On the first day of instruction, I had a 50/50 chance of dropping out of this class. I wasn't so sure I could take on the work load from this instructor. I soon realized that by staying in this class with this instructor was the best decision I could have made. Turns out this instructor taught me more about my learning style then I ever knew. Thanks to my instructor, I have gained so much learning skills and confidence in myself.

have offered more pop quizes. and help us prepare better for our exam and not using lagels to help to learn the sentence structures. it makes things harder. powerpoints were helpful while in class. and working with groups. overall good teacher

Misty is always willing to help her student improve on their writing. She will go that extra mile just to help her students succeed. I like miss positive attitude she always is happy to come to class. I am sad that she won't be teaching higher level English.

I liked that this course helped me to learn and understand what are subject- verb agreements, fragments, run-ons, and citations. I liked how I was to do my research project on premature babies, and have the audience be the premature babies who are still living till this day. I enjoyed it to the fullest.

I enjoyed the fact that we have ample time to finish our assignments and not having to rush.

The good thing about her class is that she does not give a lot of stuff but at the same time everything is valuable knowledge! She also has a say which is "quality is more then quantity.Also I learned a lot from the projects and assignments.

I love how Misty never made us feel stressed yet she still was able to deliver an expanded education in writing that compares to professors at some of the best universities.

The work done in class definitely helped with this course, and I was very happy that I took the hybrid instead of the total on line course. I thought the one day of class time was great, the group activities were essential to learning the material. Ms Carmichael was very attentive to the class, and had a very direct, knowledgeable approach. She stayed after class to answer questions and would have been available after class also, if necessary. The quizzes, in-class work on citations, and writing assignments were all extremely helpful in preparation for the final research assignment.

The assignments werent totally overwhelming to where it was too much to complete in the given amount of time.

Although I struggled to get assignments done on time I really enjoyed this class. Ms. Carmichael's teaching style is very straight forward and she is more than willing to help during class and during office hours. I would email her with the simplest questions and she would always respond in a timely manner. I don't know if I will pass this class but that's my fault. She went above and beyond to accommodate me. It's just that this is my first semester of college and I wasn't prepared for it.

Professor Carmichael is fun and very enthusiastic about teaching the subject. There is not a huge load of assignments but the few that we are assigned are very effective and to the point, helping me to grasp the concept. I wish all of my classes worked like this.

Working in groups helped me learn more about the subject matter. The writing assignments given throughout the semester seemed like stepping stones to the final paper which I thought was a great way to prep a student like me.

I liked that Misty was teaching though i didn't enjoy the hybrid part of doing assignments and work and having to do extra steps to just turn it in. For the most part it wasn't bad, though there should be some workshops for hybrid and online classes available throughout the year to help get us more familiar with hybrid classes and online.

The assignments sometimes dragged, but honestly it was worth it.

I liked how comfortable Misty Carmichael made me feel about writing. Most of these assignments I never heard of until I came to this class. She helped me understand the material in a fun way. The way she taught was very energetic, and she was very enthusiastic of what she taught. I know feel comfortable writing in the real world.

I appreciated your organization, clarity of your assignments and weekly modules. I knew what was expected, you were clear on how to do the assignments and the workload was appropriate.

I feel like a really learned a lot and enjoyed the writing topics she provided. There was a lot of subject matter to cover but it wasn't too bad because Ms. Carmichael's class was well organized and easy to follow. Also, she is very approachable, available and helpful, which makes a big difference!

One thing I really liked was that at the beginning of every week she always had some short of video or picture that was fun to look at but also had something to do with the weeks topic. I have to say that the research paper was one of my favorite assignments. I liked that when she gave you feedback on your papers that she put voice comments in instead of just written comments. When she put the instructions out for the week they were very clear and I knew exactly what was expected of me. That was the thing I really appreciated (very clear instructions). That way I didn't have to guess what I was doing or guess what she was looking for.

I wish we would have had 1 more day of class, instead of once a week!

Everything was great. It wasn't too much and you had the assignments that she wanted you to do. Overall, there was no way not to do your work and turn it in on time.

I liked the way Misty Carmichael teaches. She's a very personable person and easy to relate to. She's very upfront and says things as they are. She's strict but she's willing to help you if you ask.

They are ALL HARD so theres no way to esacape it.... but Misty's class is the best. choose or loose! *Liked the way it was set up- how we were given the assignment sheet listing everything: homework, assignments, and even what we're doing in class each day- it was all mapped out- no way you could not know what was going on *Liked how gradually the assignment got bigger, as they were challenging (to me?) so it was nice to be able to work up to bigger and more involved assignments. *Liked how this class was "university" style. Meaning- being upheld to a higher standard (Ex: homework policy) and actually being prepared for higher learning. *Fun teacher with some serious energy! Made super-complex english perfectly understandable- broken down into neat little powerpoints that you are GIVEN and able to REFERENCE whenever! Misty gives you the actual powerpoints reviewed in class-None of my other teachers give me that and I wish they all did! *Presentation was fun :) haha and I thought I wouldnt like it

What I liked about this course was the compare and contrast essay. I feel that the writing assignments that were giving during this course were very helpful to me and made me a better writer.

I like that Misty made our work worth while and useful to each of us. She frequently offered us assistance if we did not understand the work given. She supported her students well. I must say that the research paper was the one that worried me the most. However, Misty was great in supporting us and talking to each of us individually to help with our writing assignments. I am glad that I got through this assignment and I feel a great sense of accomplishment. I do not have any complaints about this course, the activities, projects, assignments, ect.

I didn't like the turnitin.com for peer reviews..i liked it better when we peer reviewed with each other in person...its okay to turn final paper in there but would be better for peer reviews to do it in person

What I really enjoyed was that Misty made the class look at different perspective ways of learning. We all came with different ways of learning, but she was able to incorporate different styles so that everyone could understand. The assignments I really liked because when I needed to do computer work/tests the computers were available right in class instead of going to the computer lab and hoping that there were computers available to us.

What i like about this course is Misty Carmichael made learning fun and Understandable. I Like the assignments she gave to class. It made learning fun,understandable and worth while taking her class.

Given the assignments to accomplish, I find it to be very challenging, but in a good way. Throughout this semester I was able to learn that writing in a specific format [APA or MLA] pertains to the major you are in and I will have to write in that specific format as I get into my field [Nursing]. This semester, I felt confident in completing and not having to withdrawal my classes. Thanks for not giving up on us.!!!!!

I especially liked the computer lab environment w/ ready access to the internet for activities or discussion of course materials. Ms. Carmichael was well prepared, and held the students responsible for their share of the learning process. Expectations were clearly stated and no ambiguities were created. She never missed a class and was very professional.

I liked everything the teacher is great!

Instruction were clear that I could under stand what she was teaching.

I liked the journals the BEST! writing essays, and storys was the bomb. I also liked how reliable the power points for all the course lessions was easy to use. Journals were the best thoe, choosing topics from a bunch and writing 3 points about that topic, and also a concluding sentence. The test were good and simple, thoe I, who sucks at writing, learned alot in this English 19 course. Thank you Misty! you da bomb.com

Thank You Misty for being a straight forward instructor by letting your students know that this is college and how we suppose to be like and the ways of learning.

This writing class that Misty carmichael teached was something that really helped me out in writing. I learned alot in this class.but due to a short stay in that class it made me very sad. she was such and good teacher. I have learned alot being there. but its okay because I. now have mrs Davis and she is very good to. writing in my Journal book,during online assignments,complete sentences,subject-verbs,etc Thank You, Misty Carmichael for being there for me. and aslo mrs. 14. Any suggestions to improve this course?

well just one suggestion, refering to the computer work... i had a hard time figuring out who goes on the computers on what days, and i felt that their was very little time to do computer work in class. the most bestist thing this class room can improve on is making the internet connection more faster, cause sometimes the internet is sooo slow and by the time the computer work is done loading so you can work on it, you look at the clock and their is like 20 min left off class. ...but besides this, perfect!

Wonderful teacher, wonderful class. Teacher is very understanding and expects students to show responsibility with their work. With proper background, class is not difficult in the least, but with the advantage of peer reviews, students are able to see examples of their fellows' work and provide carefully guided peer review and critique. Love the class, love the teacher :)

I had fun in Misty's class, and I hope she continues to bring her unique take on teaching an English class into every group of students she chooses to teach.

Great student-teacher relationships with professor Carmichael. Her witty and sarcastic humor made learning enjoyable. She administered her assignments appropriately and graded appropriately.

The course was good with alot of time managment. I think that after taking this course I better understand how to manage my time. Also the course helped me to expand my resources and knowledge.

I enjoyed this class because Misty teaches in a fun way instead of how all the other teachers are pretty boring. The work wasn't too bad and it was a fun class. I learned a lot from it

I liked that Misty always explained everything from class work to papers. She was very helpful to me this past semester. I enjoyed her so much, that I registered for her English100 class during fall semester.

In class essaies are charenging for me. However, they are good opputunities to brush up English writing skills. Group work is good.

I found the PowerPoint Presentations very useful, also I liked the way Misty would break certain things down making it easier for us to understand. To me the online homework was overwhelming, but I can honestly say that I learned a lot from it.

Doing essay writing

I liked Ms. carmicheal's power points. I am a visual learner so power points along with her clear concise directions gave me a better understanding to english . I also liked how she prepared us for the final easy.

I like class activities because I could learn more infromation from different classmates.

When I first signed up for this class and saw that it was a two hour class, I thought to myself this is going to be a long 2 hour class. Somehow, Misty made the class go by fast. At times, I felt I needed more time to learn the essay parts. Overall, I enjoyed taking this class. I learned something out of this class. The teacher was great!

1.Changing of the group of the students is helpful. Students have fresh feeling for class discussion. 2.The goal of the course is very clear. 3.The important contents were told from the beginning.

14. Any suggestions to improve this course?

I wanted more time how to write essay.

Misty has the ability to connect with all her students, her attitude was always positive and never negative. She understands that not everyone learns the same way, and she makes an effort to accommodate everyone-whether they are visual, auditory or kinesthetic learners.

Spend a little longer on essay samples, before the actual writing. I do understand this is a summer course and what you would learn in four months, you are learning it what seems to be one month.

The time of check up eassy for the individul seems too short .

I really liked how this course was structured, as a student the work really made me get my learn on. Cleared up a lot of questions about English.

I enjoyed Misty Carmichael's group activities. These activities allowed me to get to know my class mates more, and to receive feed back on my papers on how I can better them.

I liked that I could understand all assignments in this course. Misty went through each one very thoroughly.

M. Carmichael was new as well as myself, she allowed me to be real and upfront with her, and she was also upfront with me, her modern style of teaching will reach many lucky students, THANX MISTY AND ALOHA!!

Very demanding and a lot to take in- in one semester! But in the end I have to say that I really did learn a lot more than I thought I would. I realize that I had underestimated this course at first. It got so overwhelming for me, yet in the end, I really do appreciate what Misty Carmichael forced me to learn in the end. Yes, Misty's class was like a thorn by my side, a foot in my a--, but that's what I appreciate most about her, because that's exactly what I needed. Thanks Misty!! I survived and will always remember with fond memories, this English 100 course:)

Blogs were awesome. I enjoyed the relaxed and open environment. All in all awesome class.

I liked the fact that I could better my writing skills and most important was that I had a great instructor to guide me in the right direction. The essays that were assigned were hard, but definitely improved my writing. I liked the fact that I could correct some grammar problems I had in the past. At the end of class, when all essays were due, I felt very proud of myself. I also liked the blogs. Prior to this class, I did not know how to blog. Thanks to Misty, I can now say that I can blog.

take out the reserch paper haha. too much work

We had several assignments from the book that we had to do that were fairly long. Some were even 10 exercises long. I did all of the work and felt that it was unfair that the people who didn't do their homework was getting credit for it. I think that it would help if assignments and homework was checked. It might also motivated students to do their homework (and also make them learn by studying). Not a big fan of the online blogging! Personally, I would prefer handwritten journals, or blogs that had a specific due dates. Blogspot.com was forgotten about.

Misty Carmichael is very specific in what she teaches, and clear with what she wanted her students to know. With my experience as her student she helped me understand the organization of how a paper should be written.

i had fun and really enjoyed her class. she is a very good teacher and was very understanding as well. I really appreciated how she would respond to my emails fairly quickly and answered my questions anytime i had one. if she taught other classes i would be in them. i would recommend her to my friends.

I sweated for whatever grade Ms Carmichael gives me. This was a VERY tough course, but Misty gave the class the tools and guidence to succeed.

This was a very fun class(except for the writing C=) otherwise I hope whatever english class I might end up in the future has a teacher as cool as you.

i had a great time. i may have been the shy one sitting in the back, but this class was had a friendly environment where i even broke out of my shell A LITTLE!

Prof. Misty was awesome.

Misty is an excellent professor and I would highly recommend to anyone,to take her class. She keeps the class motivated and definitely on track. Although the class was hard, she was always available for help. I learned a lot from Misty and appreciate everything she did for me. Misty is very professional and also down to earth. What I liked about this course is that I learned a lot on how to write essay and even revising my own essay. Back in high school it was way different and confusing compared what I learned in this class room. It really helped me.

Please give students more writing homework because they would be revising a lot and that would help students a lot.Refer them to the writing tutors on campus that would help students correct their papers.

I once had a teacher who would always play funny video clips in the beginning of the class to get everyone warmed up for the long lecture. It always worked. He had some funny ones.
