10. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
|
| Radnofsky's lectures on the types of research and handouts were the most helpful |
| Writing the mini-study research paper was incredibly valuable to me. It helped me learn to write in a more clear and concise manner than I am ususally use to. |
| Professor Radnofsky's willingness to help, especially through emails, was
very helpful in this class since we met only once a week. |
| I learned a little about research methods, through reading on my own. However I developed a
complete distaste for the subject of research because of this class and teacher. |
| I found that the ability to choose topic of our interest and then conduct
research on that topic was helpful because it made learning about the process
of research much less boring and tedious. Learning to conduct and write a
research paper at the college level will be immensely helpful to me in the
future since I plan on moving to graduate school after I complete my
undergraduate degree. |
| Distinguishing the strengths/weaknesses of qualitative and quantitative research. Writing a research paper using various formats. |
|
|
11. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
|
| I thought the beginning lectures of how to use the library as a resource were not necessary. A brief explanation would have been fine. |
| Not having a set grading system left me confused as to how this class would
be graded. |
| Radnofsky comes across as conceited and bigoted. She ridicules students who don't hold the same
opinion as her. She always has a specific answer in mind when asking questions, and if you don't
answer it that way she doesn't accept it. She publicly embarrasses students when they make
mistakes by calling them out in front of the class. She doesn't provide answers when you ask for
help, instead insisting that you "think it through yourself." She doesn't provide help on your rough
drafts, she just tells you what to write because she thinks you're writing isn't good enough. She
threatens to dock points off of your grade for not submitting things in, but then continually claims
she "didn't receive" what was sent. She forgets to assign due dates, then gets mad when students
don't submit it. Overall, I HATED this class, and I never want to take another research course again. |
| I felt that the first couple of weeks in the class weren't very helpful
because we basically learned how to use the library and search for credible
sources. However I already know how to do this so I found the first 3/4
tedious and somewhat a waste of time. |
| The transition between the slow pace of the first half of the semester, to the hurried activities of the second half. While the professor was on a trip for four or so weeks, we were supervised by substitute teachers. We covered vague concepts of research, but only delved into real work later on. |

22. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
|
| Use class time for writing and one on one help |
| The only suggestion I have for this class and Dr. Radnofsky is to give more time to work on the research paper. The research paper was a difficult assignment and while I completed it, I think if I had started it earlier, I would have felt less stressed about it. |
| The first few weeks of the course were not very geared for what was to come
when we started our research papers. If we started the project earlier, and
had more time to complete it, then I think it would be a much less hectic and
more enjoyable experience.
We were also only given 2 weeks to meet with our partner and complete our
grant proposals. In the future, students should be given more time to
complete this project, especially if it is due during finals week. |
| Refer above. Everything. She should just go teach at the graduate level, because she completely
turns off undergrad students to learning. She lacks compassion and understanding. I am scared to
turn this in because I fear she will try to guess who submitted this and punish me by grading my
paper harder than normal. |
| I feel that it would be more useful to the students to only spend 1 class
period on how to find credible resources and start working on the research
question and review of literature immediately. One of the problems I had was
that we were somewhat rushed to finish our research paper in 2 months. If we
had a few more weeks the research paper would be much more pleasant. |
| It is obvious that Professor Radnofsky is very intellectual within her field, but she lacks genuine sympathy for the students and organization in her notes. Although she initially seemed approachable, her curt persona and rushed style of teaching quickly diminished the optimism I had for the course. It was difficult for several students to determine what she wanted out of them in regards to the objective of the assignments/notes.
She does not seem to truly listen to the opinions of some students as well. Rather, she assumes certain things without completely understanding the subtext of what is really happening.
If the professor took the time to explain vital information in the beginning of the semester, then things may have been a lot more smooth. |

30. My overall evaluation of this course is...
|
| Great class if you need to learn how to write a research paper and do basic research |
| This class was very stimulating. My knowledge of how to conduct proper research has increased and the knowledge I gained about my topic is priceless. This class was difficult, but if you stick through it, the feeling of accomplishment you receive is extremely staisfying. |
| This course was a great experience for learning how to write a professional
research paper. I really enjoyed the small class size, because it made the
class more interactive and allowed for one-on-one time with the professor if
we had any questions. |
| TERRIBLE COURSE. I cannot explain it any other than that. I never want to research anything ever
again. |
| I would give the class an overall score of 4 out of 5. I liked the content
and gained a lot out of the course, but I felt like the organization and
scheduling of due dates could be significantly improved. |
| Interesting in theory, but difficult in execution. It could have been a much better experience if the class learned about research techniques early, instead of a few weeks before the end of the semester. |
|
|
31. Other comments:
|
| I would've dropped the course but unfortunately Radnofsky took the first month of classes off to do
book signings on the mainland. I found out too late that she was a completely horrible teacher and
by this time it was too late to drop without penalty. |
| Dr. Radnofsky is a wonderful teacher who really teaches a lot about the
research process. I will use the information she taught me for years to come. |
|
