7. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Application of theory.
Group project to teach helped me to really learn concepts. I also liked class discussions.
I think that the intervention project with the presentation and paper was very valuable. I learned a lot about applying theory to application.
Group work and presentations on Multiple Behavior Change, but could have been shorter.
The group projects, assignments throughout the semester and the guest lectures. Dr. Nigg also had great activities planned for our class that put what we learned into practice, which is an important component of learning for me.
The intervention project was fun and a valuable learning tool/project.
There was a lot of good examples of interventions in which we were able to look at, analyze, see how theory was applied, and now have as resources for the future. The intervention assignment was great! We got to apply what we have learned over the last 2 semesters firsthand. The presentation process is a great idea too because then we get to see what other students chose to implement and what worked/what didn't work. I really appreciated this assignment.
When we did group presentations! That was a really fun assignment!
the final project, although if we had more than a month for the intervention period, more people might have experienced better results, due to the building of the client relationship in the beginning. Personally for me, building a professional relationship with the client was a challenge and a learning experience. my own knowledge was hindering me to listen to the client, but luckily I realized that the client needed me to listen to her, not me needing the client. The course was educational and very engaging, we got to discuss in almost every class, which is a good way to processing the learned information.
Multiple behavior change Group presentation
implementing the intervention for final project of the course Multiple Health Behavior change theory and its application Pedometer experiment
- gain basic understanding of analyzing data using SPSS - understand basic concepts/knowledge of developing, implementing, and evaluating multiple behavior change intervention -apply knowledge in different setting

Although the assignments were worthwhile, instructions for assignments could be a little clearer.
Dr Nigg could have taught more classes. I appreciate group projects and teaching each other things- but like to be taught by a professor as well. Also, more SPSS would have been helpful.
Teach SPSS instead of only supplying worksheets and being available for questions. Go through the process more slowly and in simple steps. The whole process went way too fast and most of us didn't retain a lot. No more hikes up mountains in the hot sun, although a shady easier hike would have been enjoyable. Teach more, rather than having so many guest lecturers and student presentation days.
I have no suggestions because Dr. Nigg did a great job. He basically let US design the course and discuss issues that we thought would be relevant as budding public health professionals. I love the fact that he does not spend three hours lecturing to us, but has a dynamic lesson plan that allows the class to collaborate with each other.
Having the students teach was a great way to learn however, we missed out on Dr. Nigg's knowledge because he taught less than half the semester.
I think that within a 15/16 week semester Dr. Nigg literally taught less than 1/2 of the classes-if I were to go back and count, it would probably be more like he taught a 1/4 of them. I thought that it was a little ridiculous. I completely understand that he is busy and traveled a lot, but he really didn't do much. Even though he usually seemed prepared it was obvious that he hadn't looked at the slides for a long time - the discussions were often all over the place until he found his ground. He created projects that were terribly carried out because he gave students the freedom to create and present for an ENTIRE class (3 hours). Then he got upset when groups didn't do exactly what he wanted/hoped. It was an escape from him having to prepare and teach, yet he wanted us to do what he would have done - we are all adults, we are not oblivious to how it works. We can see that he is busy, but the fact that he hardly ever taught was really evident and resented. When he did have classes where he was to teach, he often brought in speakers. I didn't appreciate his lack of committeemen to a class that is mandatory for us to take.
I guess I see the point in the final project but mostly I felt that conducting an intervention on a friend/family member was educational but pretty unethical!! I was especially concerned about one student who was too upset to give her presentation about the project--I guess I just wondered about the potential negative impact on students' lives and relationships. I really didn't appreciate the effect the project had on my friendship. It made me into a policeman and I felt my friend avoided me because of it. I think there are other ways to be creative with assignments without harming others. What about having students interview and research faculty members' research projects? I think that would be fun AND a good way to build mentor relationships!
maybe the first couple of weeks...the SPSSis very useful for all of us, but the work we did in during class was stressful and many did not understand what we did. we simply just wanted the class to be over and some parts of it I believe we should have done together on a big screen while filling in the data on our own computers. there must be a more fun and engaging way to learn SPSS.
It's better if all guest speakers present topics and content related to our course objectives Please give more time to work and give instructions on class project with each group
More time for SPSS lectures and more in-depth explanation on it as it is essential for the professionals.

Dr Nigg always had some great information in the area of MHBC to share and was very smart. I appreciate the word games in the beginning of class and a great learning atmosphere.
I thoroughly enjoyed Dr. Nigg's class. I am quite saddened that it will be the last time I have him as a professor while in the MPH program. His enthusiasm and knowledge about multiple health behavior change really impresses me. He makes the class fun and makes difficult concepts easy to grasp with activities that makes them easier to decipher! Bravo for a great semester!
This class and 623 that Dr. Nigg taught last semester were my favorite classes and the classes that I learned the most from. Dr. Nigg is a very effective teacher.
Dr. Nigg is really great at getting feedback and grades back to students in a timely manner - it is always greatly appreciated. Dr. Nigg's assignments are often broadly explained and then the grading is often very specific.
I loved this class! I loved all the discussions we had--everyone was really engaged! I also greatly appreciated Dr. Nigg's feedback on our assignments. I looked forward to this class every week. Thank you!
I am glad I took this course!

6. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The group exercises and discussions. I am glad the class was separated into two sections so that we could have more intimate discussions with our classmates!
Class size made for more intimate conversations, and I think people felt more at ease discussing things.
-The fact that our original, large class was split up. It created a great close-knit community. It was nice to have the balance of our own small class and meet up all together every now and again. -Dr. Nigg kept class interesting and took the time to not make it so mundane. The material could often be a drag, but he made sure to include activities that allowed for us to get up and move around, discuss, and also apply the information rather than just memorizing it. -Personally, the paper was stressful, but Dr. Keller explained how it worked the first day of class. Many people complained and honestly just didn't listen or read what was expected and therefore were really upset that the paper had to include topics that we might not have had our hand-held through quite yet. I think that the level of professionalism needs to be kept high and not compromised because of individuals that choose to not take responsibility and that complain often and openly. *The paper really enabled us to take on a topic of our choice (which I loved) and work in what we have learned. I thought that it had meaningful application that we will benefit from down the line. -Bringing in some guest speakers that really enabled us to learn how applicable the material was. They offered us some great insight and resources! Thanks!
Small class size made for good discussions...it turned out our group was a really good bunch; the strong "drivers" in the other section probably would have muted a lot of the quieter students from speaking. Paper and poster were good assignments, and I liked that we were allowed to choose a topic...this gave us the opportunity to do in-depth research on the topic that possibly will turn into a thesis/dissertation. Also really appreciated the time spent on giving feedback on our assignments and papers.
In class activities, discussions, and guest lectures.
Class was totally participatory

Approachable
-The homework assignments were often quite ambiguous and students were often expressing their levels of stress of not being sure quite what was being asked of them/expected. -Since we had to read and do homework assignments on a decent number of the chapters-it seemed a bit redundant to than take all of that following class to go through a powerpoint spelling out what we read. I appreciated the clarification that the powerpoints and class discussions included...but I feel that more application would be more effective in order to make the most of the class time. -We understood and were completely fine that Dr. Nigg had agreed to take on the class last minute. We appreciated that he did since the smaller group enabled a much more intimate and successful atmosphere. However, it was a little disrespectful hat he tried to play it off that he came up with the powerpoints, discussion topics, and activities when they really weren't his. We all are adults and understood the situation. Be honest and open, no need to try to hide the fact.
Appreciate his knowledge and enthusiasm. Perhaps too much time doing group exercises. For the amount of credits, the workload seemed a bit excessive.
Maybe trying different methods to increase class discussion, especially among quieter students. Try a variety of methods, versus usual format of just posing questions. Sometimes discussions felt really slow and only a few people were talking. More interactive exercises to learn/practice the theories, instead of powerpoints and discussing journal articles.
Class was fantastic and interesting. Discussions were very engaging.
Teaching style is excellent
I would have found it very beneficial if a class lecture was held explaining how to create and implement effective interventions as this was the final project for the class.
