The course offered valuable experiences in the planning process and what it takes to make things. Knowing this, the complexity of land us planning has me questioning more about the environments we live in.

I really enjoyed your writing rubric, It really helped me improve my writing. Criticism needed for my speaking and writing, they helped me improve.

The elm street project was a very good experience.

Definitely UrbanPlan. The group project is awesome, however, my view may be biased because I had a great group. Whether you have a good group or not, it will really demonstrate the realities [potentially problematic due to member disagreement] of urban planning. There is a synthesis required that helps reveal that no plan is perfect, and not everyone will be happy in the end (better yet, your lucky if a majority of people are happy). This is helped by the amazing jurors that are brought in. Tom knows some real sound professionals.

The presentations because this was definitely a weakness of mine. Also, UrbanPlan because it was a challenging group project and presentation.

The elmwood urban plan project was a great group project that challenged the class.

19. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?

I found most of the course most valuable, exceedingly more info than I could ever thought to have learn in one semester.

I didn't like the urban plan on a saturday.

The final.

We do a lot of presentation, which is great! But when people are bad at presenting, the audience becomes disinterested and tends to not listen. Because people are presenting important information, the audience suffers.

Some of the lectures could have been geared to be more enjoyable instead of paper with bullet points on the ELMO.

20. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?

UrbanPlan was interesting as in brought our group to work together more. Rewrites are also helpful because they not only show what we did wrong, it shows that we can do better.

criticism and notes about presentations and writing were very useful. The urbanplan helped make me friends and was a great group project that required cooperation skills.

The Elm Street project was valuable and helpful.

Definite the presentation critics. Presentation is so important...in every field. Tom gives good feedback about your presentation skills, and if you really pay homage to them, you can really improve your presentation skills.

I wish there were more indebt planning talks about historical planning distputes in hawaii and in the world.

The final was least valuable and helpful.

The class schedule was changed multiple times, and Tom was a little disorganized. Haha, it is ironic, it is a planning course, granted urban planning, but still, it's sort of funny.

His patience and his all-around knowledge for the subject matter.

He is a person of knowledgable and wisdom. Really stoked i got to take a class by the father of UH planning. He told what you needed to improve on in a nice way.

His many years of experience.

Very knowledgable and qualified man. Really knows his stuff, and is well know amongst professionals.

His enthusiasm about the subject and his openness to help in class and through email. If you had any questions, Tom went out of his way to help.

Talk a little clearer. REALLY INTERESTED how that jam tastes. FAMOUS DINELL JAM FOR EVERYBODY.

Course schedule was a little hard to understand...and yes I did read the whole syllabus, it is just put in a sort of quirky way. The due dates for certain projects was confounding cause you'd turn in the paper sometimes three weeks before you presented the information to the class. I can understand this may be due to guest lecturers availability and etc, but its makes the continuum of context a little difficult to maintain.

Some of the lectures were a bit boring...group work helped.

This is necessary for students to solidify their vision for Elmwood and develop a financially feasible plan which reflects that vision, and is considered with respect to the multiple community stakeholders involved. The urban plan exercise should not be so hurried.

This course was very busy because of various assignments, however, each assignments were very valuable for me to develop my architecture design. Also, Prof. Dinell's advise was very helpful for my doctorate project of my major(architecture).

This course made me more of a critical thinker, plan ahead and a good communicator.

I really enjoyed the Urban Plan Project. I really learned how and what planners do with this project. I also like the very detailed syllabus and schedule, it really helped me to stay organized and I knew exactly what to do for each assignment.

Understanding the process of a Planner and what they go through to develop a set of plan.

I like the group project. It was challenging and gave me an opportunity to see what Planning was all about.

I thought that he was very informed on the subjects we studied and I gained a whole new understanding of what Urban Planning was all about.

The aspect of the course that was most valuable was urban plan because it exposed me to common problems that planners deal with.

Urban Plan was a great simulation of the world of planning, and i probably got the most out of that section of the course.

Assignments like the Talk With Planner Interview and UrbanPlan were extremely valuable. Being able to work hands on and learn about the profession and subject matter was better than listening to any other lecture or reading.

He has been doing this for a long time and I can't think of anything that he could improve on.

In the future the course could expand more on how planning can be used beyond its regulatory aspects. We did cover how planning is used outside of regulation but I would like to hear more about it.

Tom Dinell is one the best instructors I had in a long time. We need more instructors that use humor to teach.

It was my favorite course of the semester and would highly recommend it to anyone.

One of the best classes I've taken at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. I would recommend Tom Dinell to anyone interested in Planning, or as a class to broaden horizons.
