2. If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
Taught me how to do Statistics mostly using mega stats and excel.
i had a hard time understanding the material.. i really wouldnt take this class if it wasnt required...
I learned a lot about statistics.
Group work helped me to learn to work well with fellow classmates
I don't believe it did at all.
This course has definitely taught us the importance that statistics has in our daily life, and how it aids in business decision-making.
It helped me understand statistics better.
gave me an awareness of what goes into statistics and how to generate them, also a general understanding of the importance of statistics and how they are used in business.
This class was awful to me. The worst class I have had to take since Calculus. It wasn't fun at all and I didn't enjoy it one bit. I feel like I will never use most of these things and won't help me in the future.
Yes, the course was to fulfill graduation requirements. This class helped my professional development through learning the methods of statistical analysis. Also it helped with using microsoft excel's stats functions.

I think that Professor Pai has given us ample paperwork resources to understand the material.
Group project wasn't as much of a learning experience as I expected it to be, partially because we didn't know much about statistics when we chose our topic.
i think group projects could actually be eliminated. Most of the students are full time employees as well, and finding mutual times to meet is very difficult.

Possibly just a bit more focus on using MS excel in class. I found myself struggling sometimes to correctly fill in the multiple fields that are required when setting up an equation.

good as is...
his way of teaching makes you feel like you should read before coming to class to know what he is talking about.
Nothing. good class.
Extra credit.
Dr. Pai needs to clearly state what he expects us to do. Overall, he was not able to teach us anything. I had to continuously ask for help and look over the book numerous times. He rely on Microsoft Excel to teach us with all the formula, however, he would not be able to do it on the whiteboard.
Statistics is such a boring subject that it has to be brought to life more, especially at 9:30 in the morning.
I think just having more time to answer questions via e-mail or in class. But it is understandable that Professor Pai is busy, so having this time to answer so many questions can be tough.
None
There was a lot of material to cover. I would have wanted one more lecture on lines of regression. We had to squeeze it in to the last week along with chi squared.
22. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Good teacher.
he is a great teacher. i like the fact he makes practice exams before the real exam to let us study and know what will be on the test.
Good teacher. Willing to help all students. Wants us to do well in the class.
He helped us learn ACCURATE information, making sure to correct our errors. He wants to help us succeed, but didn't just give us our grades. Good teacher.
Horrible teacher, no idea how to teach. Picks on people because we didn't understand the concept the moment he teaches us, and was not able to teach without Microsoft Excel.
Cool guy, okay teacher.
A very practical professor who opts for us to learn the concept and focuses on what can be really useful in real life scenarios.
A good teacher.
very nice guy, but the overall class experience is just OK.

Good introduction to Statistics.
i still dont like statistics...
Good class
Dr. Pai really knew subject matter. I enjoyed having him as a teacher.
it would've better if Dr. Pai would be able to teach without the guidance of Microsoft Excel, and show us what exactly we're looking for.
A good course that someone majoring in business should take.
didn't like it at all! Not a good requirement.
Difficult, but I managed to pass. =)
Great course

great teacher
Please consider offering extra credit in the future :)
I would not recommend Dr. Pai to anyone.
I like the powerpoint slides they were really helpful.

2. If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
Reading the textbook informed me of all the possibility that technology has to offer for businesses. The applications and the projects were also a variety of skills that I learnt by doing them.
Well, to be perfectly honest, I didn't learn much from the course. I was given quizzes without much learning. The discussion questions didn't really aid in my learning, and the applications are pretty confusing.
It gave me an incite to Microsoft word and excel, I had fun doing the projects, they were challenging.
Learned interesting things about technology in IT systems.
It has provided me with different types of tools that I can utilize within my work environment.
It made me realized how much Information management is used in my daily life and at work. Even though I work in the medical field, it seems that we are doing more things on the computer and learning about it helps me to have a better understanding and advantage.
gave me practice in using excel features that I rarely use.
This course has given me knowledge about information technology systems, components of nfomration systems, development and use databases, benefits of business networks and telecommunications, characteristics of of web-enabled commerce, developing an information system for an enterprise and teh various types there are, and issues in information technology including risks, ethical and societal issues, secrurity and disaster recovery.
This course was very helpful in my understanding of excel, word, social media, and electronic meeting software. The material in the text provided me with a much better understanding of how the digital world works.
I really enjoyed the Word/Excel assignments. I finally found out what the different headings are for!
gave examples of technology in business
This course was a real eye-opener. I learned so much over the semester and am excited to apply what I have learned throughout the course, especially on Excel and Wiki, to my business and personal life. My goal: plan a trip using wiki.
Learned a lot.
I felt the course was two different classes, the book was totally different to what we had to do in our applications.
I gained a lot of knowledge about computers that I will be able to use for my career in the future.
It introduced me to new material. Interesting course, I would prefer to take it face to face. The material was very technical and I feel that I do not really have a grasp on the material.
This course enhhanced your microsoft office abilities which is really helpful for any job in general.
Gave me a greater understanding on what management tools are available for business decision making and productivity.
I enjoyed this course because it really helped me to sharpen my computer skills and helped to "open my eyes" to the different types of technologies.
I really enjoyed this class. I felt like I learned a lot of useful things about word, excel and the Wiki.
This course helped me understand the computer systems involved in business

5. Please comment on the activities or resources that could be added to this course to improve your learning.
The resources for this course were sufficient.
I think that some of the expectations of the students to do the assignments were too high. I think if a basic instructional video or an example of it were posted to give students an idea of what they were doing, it'd be a lot easier than emailing the instructor and waiting for a reply. I thought the Wiki pages were fun to do but while doing the projects, my group members and I ran into a lot of problem. Wiki seems to be limited in what it can do so if possible, I think that the instructor could try to find an alternative to this or a better version.
There are a lot of activities (quizzes, chapter questions, etc.), he just wasn't there enough to answer people's questions.
I think that he did a great job on giving us a variety of discussions, projects, and great video tutorials to explain what is expected from us from each project.
Online tutorials would be useful.

None it was great.
Perhaps using only one type of communication. Other instructors have asked students not to e-mail them at their regular e-mail and to only use the mail tool or discussion tools within Laulima.

I feel that Professor Pai integrated a varied amount activities and resources into the course and that any additional activities would further enhance the course content and learning experience. I honestly do not know what I would add to this course - I like the layout, topics and lessons as-is.

17. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Dr. Pai is impossible to get in contact with, he doesn't respond to e-mails and when asked for help he doesn't respond unlessa group of students have the same question. At that point, he sends a mass e-mail to address the issue.
I think the weekly quizzes can be improved on. There are so many questions that I am always afraid I will get a question on the quiz that is posted wrongly (instead of a true/false question choice, it is an essay question box). I would suggest grouping the students to do certain chapters instead of having the whole class do one chapter. I would that that would minimise the chances of getting a weird question.
Please answer e-mails.
I believe that this is by far the greatest experience that I've have in the past three years of attending school.
Maybe putting in some online tutorials and lectures.
None
I like having classes on line and being able to do things from my home without to much travel time. I work full time and have three children so being able to have on line classes is the way to go for me.
I don't think it is necessary for questions to be submitted for all chapters. I understand that these questions go into a pool for quizzes/tests but a better effort to review the questions and answers needs to be done. Some of the questions are incomplete or can have multiple "correct" answers that are not recognized in this process.
Someone have a faster way of correcting assignments for students to know how well they've done on their assignments and discussion posts.
The textbook was good and easy to read. I really like the assignments, working with Excel and Word, however I would have liked more instructor instructions. We were kind of left on our own to figure out the assignments and I needed to consult Youtube to learn Excel features. For the number of questions on the exam, more time is needed (or fewer quesitons). The discussion board videos were interesting.
Extra credit. Get rid of the first video assignment ;)
the only thing to suggest is to be more available on line, answer email questions in a more timely manner
My one suggestion for improving this course is to have assignments returned in a more timely manner.
I feel that the course teaching style and methods are sufficient.
Better instructions on the application problems.
Clearer instuctions on what to do and retun grades in adequate time
Nothing. It was good.
The teacher took a long time in responding to my email. I had to send multiple emails before getting an answer. The grading took forever too..
Acknowledge receipt of assignments. Have a specific time of the week, two times a week, that you check your email. That way the student knows when a submitted question should be answered. I asked a question and did not get a response for over a week.
None, I like it the way it is.
I liked the way he had videos to show us what to do. Felt like it helped me learn.
It would be nice if he wouldn't make instructions for applications too vague.
18. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
If you are going to be a University professor, you should respond to your students. It took 9 weeks to get feedback on our first application, and by that time we had already turned in another 3 applications and an individual project, not to mention all the chapter questions and discussion questions. If you can't keep up with the workload you give, cut it back or get an assistant. We are all here to learn, and the feedback is part of that learning process. With two weeks left, we still have very little feedback and very little idea how we are doing as far as a grade goes.
Professor Pai seems like a very nice instructor who is willing to help students. He's responded very quickly to our emails regarding the group project and responds to questions (even though they may be rather late). However, like all online courses, I feel that I lose out on contact with the instructor due to the long distance. It is hard to evaluate an instructor this way.
He just need to answer e-mails, update classes. But I guess he can be really busy.
Awesome! I will be taking another class next semester with Mr. David Pai.
Knows the subject.
Great professor understands and is passionate about this topic.
Dr. Pai is pretty awesome. He answers my questions in a timely manner. He also helps me when I have a problem. I think distance education is a great way for me to work and be able to finish my degree and with teachers like Dr. Pai it makes it a great experience and it makes me feel confident that I can and will finish my degree at West Oahu. Thank you, Dr.Pai!
Tried to do too much in the course: questions, quizzes, tests, discussion questions, multiple projects--it is a bit much.
a person who know what he is teaching; although, it seems that his time is cut to thin. He is very interesting to listen to and very easy to understand when giving instruction.
Good, knowledgeable. Needs to respond to questions more quickly.
His understanding of technology is a great asset to this university. Dr. Pai was always available to help students out with the very difficult applications that were assigned throughout the course.
Took a little long to grade assignments, but I understand he has a life outside of this class. I'm lucky that I've met him in person so I know how good a teacher he is, but I'm afraid if I didn't see him outside of this course I wouldn't have known he was a good teacher because he takes a bit to grade assignments. Nonetheless, great teacher.
Excellent instructor, enjoyed the class very much.
Professor Pai did a great job of sharing the course material. I appreciated the integration of the textbook, weekly videos and assignments. Although the assignments were rather challenging and caused much frustration during completion, the lessons learned while working through assignments were valuable and will stick with me for the rest of my life. This course allowed me to look beyond my major (numbers, stats and calculations) and see how everything is interconnected and relative in the business, networking and information world.
Dr. Pai makes everything interesting, as well as entertaining us with spreadsheets using excel and reports in proper format has helped me use Word efficient and effective for other classes, i.e., essays. Dr. Pai also makes an effort in elaborating what he expects out of our assignments and ensures clarification with follow up emails.
He is a good teacher however, he gaves us vague instructions on the application problems. His instructions are open for interpretation and students could not understand what does he want us to do.
good teacher
I think his methods are not the best for this class.
fair
AWESOME!
This was the first semester that I had taken on-line classes and am happy to say that I had a good experience with it. At first I had some difficulty with the nature of the work and checking on the due dates but as the weeks went by I was able to learn how to navigate the site and enjoyed the videos.
I really like how he taught in this class compared to 320.
Pretty good teacher, he knows about the subject but since this was an online course it would have been good if he explained things a little better

26. What did you like most about your online course experience?
The students in this course helped more than Dr. Pai.
Doing the group project and getting to know wonderful group members was the best experience of this course. I have not yet done any group work for other online classes. I am glad to say that I had quite a pleasant experience working with other students from the same class. The chat tool available in Laulima also allowed interaction with other students, which was great in asking for help with the assignments.
I liked the convenience.
I liked that we did some interactive group work the wiki project was fun.
Being able to do the work when it fits your schedule.
The flexibility it provides.
I cannot emphasize how much I like have an online course. I live on Kauai and have this option is great. I did look into other school that cost three times more than West Oahu but I like the school and the instructors. I would recommend this school to my fiends and colleague. I prefer on line course as opposed to the HITS classes where I would have to sit in a class room for three hours one day a week. Those class don not work for my schedule.
I really loved my online course experience.
I liked learning and trying out new things such as Wiki and DimDim. I like the flexibility of online classes, so thank you for offering this online.

true and false questions
The ability to "attend" class on my own schedule and I could travel and still be connected to class.
The ability to study, share and work at my convenience - within the course deadlines.
The assignments were enjoyable, as well as challenging but not to the point of frustration. A little creativity and the utilizing of resources that is available for I to refer too has helped me to overcome the obstacles in the assignments given.
That it was online
The due dates were straight forward.
i would like this course to be offered in person
The Applications
Applications were the best part of the course
It was at your own pace.
I enjoyed to informational videos we would watch on a weekly basis.
flexibility with personal schedule. convenience.
The discussion topics were interesting and related to current events in business technology
27. What did you like least about your online course experience?
The hardest part about this class was receiving responses for email. I understand that the instructor receives a lot of email from other students and teaches other classes but I think it is unfair to distance learning students to receive later responses than if students in regular classes could just ask the instructor then and there. This is not limited to this course alone but has been a problem for my other courses as well. I hope that instructors will take time to look into this problem to help the distance learning students in their coursework.
The fact that our professor cannot readily answer his e-mails.
I don't like doing group work.
Not being able to ask questions with immediate answers.
none
The group project, it was hard to coordinate.
My group was not as reponsive as I would have liked. It was frustrating at times.
I can't really think of anything right now.
The first video assignment
the 100 questions tests with little time
Not being able to discuss a questions and make my situation really understood.
It would have been beneficial to be able to collaborate face-to-face with peers to complete assignments, as they were, in my opinion, the most difficult tasks to complete for the course.
Communication with the teacher was difficult
Applications cause i dont really like excel.
the lack of conversation with the instructor
The Exams .. not enough time
Not having feed back on our assignments is a timely manner. The end of the semester is this week and our assignments have not been graded or acknowledge that the assigments have even been received. I would have liked to have gotten feed back before the next assignment, that way I could know if I was submitting good work or not. Now at the end of the course I still do not have an idea of how my work was seen by the instructor.
Nothing
I didn't care for the applications that we had to complete. I feel that it didn't really relate to what we were learning in class but I do respect the fact that it was new to me and probably to other students.
communication, receiving more attentive/personal help with assignments.
28. My overall evaluation of this course is...
My experience for this course was overall pleasant, with exceptions to the aforementioned problems.
This can be greatly improved with timely replies to student's questions.
It was fun I enjoyed it.
Good course, interesting material.
great, enjoyed this course would recommend this course to others.
I think that this course was great.
Very good job Dr. Pai. Superb.
Good.
This course helped me very much with manipulating data, charting and graphing information into excel or word. I am very happy with this class. I feel much more prepared in entering the workforce with the skills I have learned here.
Pretty good.
good
Very good course, learned a lot about Information systems and computers in general
The content and course material were interesting and informative. Just need to work on returning assignments more efficiently, or delete an assignment or two, to keep up with grading and returning everything in a timely manner.
As I stated earlier the using excel in spreadsheets, proper format of making reports with Word, and the Wiki assignments were helpful.
good class
i did not like this course
I enjoyed it
fair
GREAT!
I enjoyed this course and had a good experience
good. material was great. applications were difficult but skills gained afterwards were valued and useful.
very helpful. Really enjoyed the course and the new things I learned from it.
Interesting subject but instructions could confuse some people like me
29. Other comments:
I would like to see more videos from the instructor on talking about the textbook material. I felt that just reading it alone and doing the quizzes was not a very efficient way to learn. Videos that emphasis on various points of a chapter would help greatly in overall learning.

I think if there were some online or Quicktime video lectures it would add to the learning experience.
none
Great work Dr. Pai.
None.
good teacher.
I did not like the chapter reviews by putting together 15 true and false questions and having these questions as our quizzes. Alot of the time some of the questions didn't make sense, had words misspelled and didn't follow the format that was required for the assigment. I would have preferred to have quizzes from the book so that I could test my knowledge and my learning ability. With the quizzes we had, all I had to do was look up the answer. I like going to class on campus and I think that as students we should have the option to take the class on line or at school. I take the classes to learn, the grade is secondary although I normally get good grades
Thank you for offering the online class, it made work and school like a little bit less hectic.
