13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He is educated in the subject of estate planning and probate. He is organized and helpful.
I love Mr. Macanas! He is such a great teacher, he is very knowledgable about Estate Planning (the subject he is teaching). He has a great way of explaining material to the students in a manner that makes sense. He convinced me that I love to work with estate planning and I was always excited to go to class to learn from him. He is very organized and made it clear to students of his expectations for the class.
He knows his information.
Mr. Macanan's major strength as a teacher is that he effectively communicates his knowledge in the subject matter to the students. He also makes the class fun and interesting.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
No suggestions. Great instructor
I don't think that anything needs to change.
I would suggest for him not to allow students to talk when he is trying to give a lecture. It makes it uncomfortable for the rest of the class and hard to listen when you have students chit chatting. I would also suggest he should not allow for people to interrupt him without raising their hand. I would suggest using laulima for students to take their quiz or have hand outs for the quiz instead of putting it up on the projector which makes it harder to see. I would also suggest having the quiz after the break since most students attending the evening classes work full-time or have children which means sometimes they might arrive to class late and if the quiz is at beginning of class, they miss it.
The only change I would suggest is that the program allow Mr. Macanas to find a textbook that is arranged better. I feel he did a great job organizing his syllabus around the text, but it would have been more effective if the textbook had been organized differently.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He showed concern by keeping us up to date with our grades. He stayed after class to let us talk about our concerns.
Students were always welcomed to speak with him about missing a class, getting assignments or asking questions. He made sure that all the students knew what was expected of them and helped guide them when they were confused. I felt comfortable asking questions and felt that he was genuinely caring about a student like me.
Mr. Macanas showed concern for students by being available both before and after class for any questions or concerns from the students.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes. He is a great instructor and I would recommend him to others.
Yes, He is a great professor who makes estate planning enjoyable to learn. He has a great ability to explain the course material and explains his expectations from day one.
I would recommend him to students because his lectures were very helpful and educational.
I would recommend Mr. Macanas to students because he is very knowledgable in the area of estate planning and probate, and he has an effective way of disseminating that information to the students.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Thanks for a wonderful semester.
Mr. Macanas is a benefit to the Kapiolani Community Program. He engages students and encourages them to learn. He is a great teacher and a great individual. I will miss him after I graduate and hope that I can work with him in the near future. I would love to have him as a mentor one day.
He has a fun laid back attitude and tries to make it a comfortable class environment.
I definitely enjoyed this class, and Mr. Macanas made what could have been a very boring, dry subject matter interesting and relevant. I'm glad I took this class. :-)
