13. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
In class discussions.
Overall learning about what causes deviant behaviors
Well organized syllabus, power points, and study guides were more than useful.
The content was easy to understand and interesting
The overall course and material covered was very interesting. Gave me a good understanding and overview of some of the main societal issues present today, as well as issues I wasn't aware of.
powerpoint
Application of many different sociological aspects
Doing the in class activities
It was an interesting class I liked it.
The lectures and the reviews were very helpful. I understood all of the lectures and the professor gave great examples.
We covered the theories in a mostly modern-day context.
I feel that the most valuable aspects of the course were the theories. Knowing these theories and being able to applying them, will help you out in the line of work and noticing types of deviance that you do not tend to pick up or notice before this course.
relating topics to social media like news clips video and youtube
Lectures and lessons were very discussion oriented between teacher and student and greatly helped to deepen knowledge of class concepts. Professor Mossakowski was very good and clear at explaining any questions and was always appreciative of further student input on various topics. Very little class time or discussions felt pointless or unnecessary as everything left impacting lessons.
Class content was very interesting, with concepts and examples explained clearly. The exams were quite reasonable.
Dr.Mossakowski is an absolutely fantastic professor. She inspires and sparks interest in the subject, she seems to be extremely knowledgable and the course material was extremely relevant. 10/10 would recommend to anyone and everyone.
Everything.
I learned a lot about the different aspects of deviance from her.
Working with new class members for class activities. Get to interact with classmates and really helped brainstorming new ideas and learning about the main topics covered in class.
The professor was extremely helpful
Posted power points with clear and concise information
Learning of various deviance theories to better explain the world around.
learning about middle class deviance
Clearness of powerpoints, and study guides. all the assignments and videos shown are pertinent to the topics we are discussing in class.
Everything about this course was valuable there was nothing that wasn't valuable at all.
Learning things thru her slides and keeping the slides for future reference

Thanks for being a great professor. I learned a lot in this course and catch myself applying what you taught us to my own life situations.
I liked that the class was lectures and then we had an exam on the material we covered, as well as some in class assignments. I don't like the classes that make you write papers and what not assignments that just take up a lot of time when there is so much reading to do. Overall I really enjoyed this class and the way it was organized.
none
Great class, learned a lot and would recommend it to others to take it.
This was a great class. It actually helped me get through another SOC course by covering some of the same theories in a different context.
this is a great class and would recommend it to others
great teacher interesting lectures
I would take another course from Professor Mossakowski again.
Hands down the best sociology teacher we have at the University of Hawaii. I've taken one class from her before and she always makes the course content easy to understand and follow along with. Class is never boring and she always allows everyone to speak in class which is very rare. She always encourages us to participate which i love.
Gonna miss having her as a professor!
Really learned a lot and the professor was helpful
Extremely helpful and understanding professor
Overall good class, great instructor
Very prepared professor who grades fairly, and tells us the things we need to know for the test.
This was by far one of my favorite classes I have taken here!!
She is a very educated teacher who brings very interesting points and support to the table when it comes to the lectures. She is very open and easy to talk to about things. She is always prepared and ready for our class and is very great with informing us about things thru email ahead of time. She dresses really well and gives time for us to ask questions or do activities.

13. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Dr Mossakowski is an enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher and that energy comes out in her teaching style. It got the students excited about them material. I have recommended her classes to other students.
This was an amazing course. I learned a lot from the readings and from our class discussions. Even though I did not enjoy writing the weekly reading summaries, I think down the road those summaries will be very useful for my work.
Dr. Mossakowski's course on mental health and illness provided valuable and thought provoking class discussions that sparked my interest in the subject matter beyond my initial interest at the beginning of the semester. Dr. Mossakowski's extensive knowledge and background on soc. of mental health and illness and encouraging, enthusiastic teaching style make every aspect (lectures, discussion, written assignments, and research paper) highly valuable. Dr. Mossakowski provides excellent feedback on written assignments/research projects and helped me become a better writer and graduate student over the course of the semester. This course provides insight on important, relevant topics in medical sociology and allows the student to incorporate his/her specific research interests into course material in an academically stimulating way.
I found Krysia's feedback to be extremely helpful. She is great at helping her students to become better writers and thinkers.

I would strongly recommend any class that Krysia teaches to anyone who is interested in medical sociology, life course perspective, or sociology in general. This is my third class with Krysia and I can honestly say that she is one of the most knowledgeable, understanding, and helpful instructors that I have ever had.

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
The way she taught and lectured made the entire class excited about the subject. I was apprehensive about taking a sociology class because it was not a big interest of mine. But the way that prof. Mossakowski presented the information I was interested in the topics and sociology as a whole.
The lectures were very informative and the reviews for the test are very helpful as well
powerpoints
Loved being critical of the established institution.
availability of slides and discussing the readings in class. In class discussions were very helpful, as was the study guide.
The main topic overview before the lesson begins is always nice and helps me with organizing my notes into easily classified sections.
Everything was valuable
Learning about theories that will help me make better choices in life concerning health.
The material she taught overall in the class. Her lectures and powerpoints were very informative. Also watching a couple of videos on the subjects really clarified our understanding of the topics and helped us see the different perspectives in society and the world.
I believe the in-class assignments were most valuable because it got students into conversation about course material while encouraging them to think critically and further their understanding of the material from lecture. Also, Krysia encouraged group discussions throughout her lectures which I found to be very engaging.
I found the in-class assignments to be valuable because it provoked both individual and group thinking related to the topic(s) discussed during that class period.
Very fun and interesting course.
In class activities and discussions that required critical thinking.
The aspects of the course that were most valuable were her powerpoints, lectures, and her review days. They were very informative and straight to the point.
going over topics that could pertain to our lives, which made them more engaging and interesting
The instructors ability to teach the material. The instructors way of relating the material to my personal life and future career was extremely valuable in my professional development.
the in class writing assignments
The most valuable aspects were the assignments, documentaries, and lectures.
The lectures
everything in the course was very meaningful powerpoints were very informative and let us focus more on listening to the lecture rather than copying the notes learning the many symptoms of medical disorders (but it would help if they were clarified... i think most of us were starting to become hypochondriacs resources to learn more about it would help)
Her teachings and lessons are very understandable and easily relate to real life.
Learning about the way society in America handles stress under medicine was really an eye opener for me. I really enjoyed how we had review and love that we talked about things outside of America to compare the differences in cultures and traditions and if it effects everyone.
How she provides resources for the course
Videos and choices of readings

The readings that were posted on Laulima because some of it was kind of hard to understand. Her lectures and powerpoints were more understandable and clear.
The least valuable aspect of this course would be the fact that the lectures were posted online, so there was little need for note-taking during class. At least, this was the case for me, personally. I did see a number of students taking notes off of the slides.
Nothing!
There were no aspects of the course that were least valuable. I liked this class.
Honestly, I cannot recall any aspects of the course that were least valuable to me. The instructor was able to influence new teaching methods to interact her students and the material.
Everything was valuable

really long class discussions kind of hindered my learning because i was unable to focus on what was considered to be "correct information" when i was studying for the test

26. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
NOTHING. She did a great job!
class is perfect
more class discussions invloving everyone
Please limit the attention seeking idiots in the front of class from spewing their personal nonsense. Also, don't bother posting the readings... you know, I know, the entire class knows that nobody reads them, you practically give us a synopsis of each one in class and that's entirely sufficient.
Creating more group assignments for in-class, because it helps students become more engaged in the material.
The only one thing that I would suggest is to make the PPT presentation slides less wordy because I learn the material better by writing down all notes during class.
She doesn't need to improve. The way she is teaching it is effective and great!
see below
Dr. Mossakowski can improve the course by having her student present a topic that is researched outside of the course.
I think she teaches well and doesn't need to change anything
What she is doing now is fine
I think the course is perfectly fine the way it is

speak a little slower go a little more in depth about the topics

27. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
Everything. All the information she presented was very important and relatable. I really enjoyed this class.
She is very clear
how she would emphasize which slides were important to know in depth and which ones to understand the concepts
-- snipped --
Answered questions and gave everybody the opportunity to talk. She never made anybody feel stupid for what they had to say and managed to stay neutral on controversial topics
Her lectures and powerpoints were clear and understandable.
Her enthusiasm for the course material. She was always very engaging and excited to present new information to students and she was quick to answer any questions that arose.
I found the study guide, possible short-answer reference and PPT slides on laulima very valuable. I was able to better prepare myself for the exams as well as having a reference of what I missed during class due to her speed of the lecture notes.
Professor was very knowledgeable of the subjects being taught.
What I found most valuable and helpful about Professor Mossakowski was that she was very informative with her lectures and made her study guides very clear.
see below
Dr. Mossakowski has been the most valuable professional throughout my college career. The only thin I regret is not enrolling in more of her courses.
that she relates things to her personal life so she makes the class relatable
She answers all of our questions and is very knowledgable about the subject.
Her reviews for the exam. I felt very prepared for each exam in this class.
her friendly behavior
she made us question our sources and taught us that published statistics may not always be 100% accurate because many groups get left out
Her knowledge about the course is good and the way she teaches tends to throw in students attention pretty good, very understandable her lectures and slides.
I liked how she took the time to answer my questions personally in a personal level. I like how she treated everyone in the classroom fair with their ideas and statements when they are sharing. I like how she brings up things that are happening with the outside world and not just America. I also liked how she posted up the lecture slides on laulima and how she would do little class activities.
The study guide, was so accurate
She was a clear and enthusiastic speaker and covered a lot of material.

28. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Great professor! She has a lot of experience and enthusiasm about the topics she is presenting which in turn makes the class as excited about the material.
good professor
great teacher
Excellent. You have been one of my favorite teachers here at UH. It's a great class and I would have loved to take your mental health class as well except I have an ex gf in that class and that would have just been awkward haha. Hope you enjoyed reading this response and you don't get too offended by my crass and bold comments...Anonymity brings out the brutal honesty in some of us haha.
One of my favorite professors and classes I've taken at UH. I would highly recommend her to anyone.
Very good teacher with interesting lessons.
A very knowledgeable and enthusiastic teacher.
she is a very helpful and educated Professor that creates an engaging environment for which students are able to learn through discussion and group work.
My overall evaluation is that she is a knowledgable, organized and effective teacher.
Passionate about the topics covered in class and does a good job of explaining it to students
She was a great professor and I would recommend her to anyone who is interested in this course!
Honestly, Krysia is one of the best professors that UH Manoa has. THus far in my studies she is the most interesting, knowledgeable, and compassionate. She is very talented at what she does and would definitely recommend her to anyone that is going to take a medical sociology class. I hope I will be able to take her again as I further my studies but if not I am glad I had her for at least a semester. I do not think she should change her class at all because she has it 100% down! She does a great job of teaching and you can tell that she loves to do it.
good professor, knowledgeable, and knows the material well. can spark discussions about the class material
By far the best professor I have yet to encounter.
Very passionate about her area of study
she is a great professor that knows her subject well. She is organized and the assignments given are great tools to help teach the course.

Great course, interesting material...A little feminist for my taste though. Love how its just exams and attendance, none of that new-education b.s like daily hw and essays.
Interesting and overall I enjoyed it
Good course, learned a lot of interesting new things that I had not known previously.
Very good
Very useful information that everyone in life should have knowledge about.
A very interesting course with a good teacher.

12. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Schizophrenia was one of the topics that was most valuable to me.
I enjoyed how the course was set up and learned a lot about mental health problems.
Class lectures from krysia are the best! She is so relaxed and the topics she talks about are interesting. and the way she teaches makes it interesting too.
Through this course i have gained great knowledge on metal illness and a new perspective on the mentally ill. I have learned we have to be worried about the safety of the mentally ill more then having to worry about our safety. BEcause of this course i have decided to minor in sociology
Krysia's lectures were highly informative and thoroughly interesting; The lectures were invaluable in facilitating discussion, the exchange of ideas, and the broadening/augmenting of our sociological understanding of mental illness. Although dense and requiring high-level critical thought and analysis, the course material was delivered in such a way to maximize understanding and retention. The assigned readings were not only interesting, but provided qualitative insight into specific cases of mental illness and the related institutions of medicine, the criminal justice system, and even commerce.
Applying the subject matter to the real world.
The most valuable sources were the videos, slides, handouts, and reading material.
The material covered is very important and relevant to the lives of individuals as well as society in general that not everyone is informed of.
The videos were awesome and relevant to the topics. The lectures were very informative. In class assignments allowed us to reflect
The assigned readings were great supplements to the lectures: interesting and informative.
I loved Krysia's course! I love her lecture style and power points. It helped a lot that she posted previous power points and went over main topics. I also enjoyed the random class assignments to get credit for attendance, but also like that it wasn't everyday so it wouldn't get boring. The documentaries were also a great aspect to class because it helped us relate main subjects to real social issues.
i liked that videos were shown in class, both old and new documentaries, that were relative to what we were learning that day. krysia was also very approachable and understanding professor. she actually cares about the students. i learned alot about mental health from this class.
I loved the movie examples!!
I think that all topics selected by Krysia Mossakowski were interesting and extremely useful to know. This course allowed for me to gain knowledge that I feel I would not have been able to get in any other class. The lectures really did a great job of summing up what was most important.
How Krysia was able to connect what we were learning in the course to our everyday lives. It made the material much more relevant.
All the lectures and readings was available to us through Laulima.
13. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
One of the least valued part of the course but was one of the interesting was suicide.
None. for sure
This class has little thats invaluable it teaches of mental illness that can happen to anyone and it opened my eyes to respect the mentally ill for who they are.
All aspects were valuable

Everything, lectures + readings + videos, allowed me to fully grasp concepts
every aspect of the course was valuable. I learned so much from each assignment and lecture.

27. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Trying to closely define the definition in the test review prior to the test and not re-word the tests questions.
Perhaps, you could include more on bipolar disorder and how schizophrenia and bipolar are similar but different.
nothing, i think she is an amazing teacher.
I believe that if she continues teaching this course she should do it as she did for my class it was successful and i learned a great deal
The coursework could be expanded to allow for further exploration into a sociological understanding of mental illness if there were more writing assignments.
No need. She is good.
No improvements. Great teaching skills.
Maybe we could do a mini research paper on one of the topics that we were most interested in.
This course was great. More short video clips could be beneficial to reinforce information.
I don't have any suggestions of how she can improve teaching this course, just to teach more Sociology courses. UH Manoa needs more professors who care for their students and genuinely care about the subjects they're teaching, like Krysia.
maybe make the powerpoints less wordy so we can take notes.
nothing, excellent!!
I think Krysia is a phenomenal professor because of the fact that she has so much knowledge regarding the subject matter. Her lectures were very interesting and made sure that she broke down complex theories and ideas. I cannot think of anything needed to improve upon Krysia's teaching of this course.
I think that the course was put together really well, and the only improvement I think would be maybe to give us more visual examples.
More classroom assignments. Engagement from the students really helps them understand the content of the course.
28. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?
no comment
I enjoyed learning about the large population of mentally ill people in prisons and the problems that exist there.
she was slow and deliberate in her teaching and stayed on subjects for long enough with very good effective communication so everyone could understand.
I found that by attending class she would be there everyday to inform us of what is going on even tying in current events so that we can see the causation of mental illness stigma.
She was clear, concise, and eloquent in the delivery of her lectures, allowing for myriad opportunities for student discussion.
class discussions were great.
She is very helpful. A professor that is approachable.
She was very knowledgable in the course subject and her teaching methods were very effective. She made the course information very easy to comprehend and related it to current issues, personal stories and provided good examples. She was a friendly teacher who communicated well with the students and really cared about what she was teaching.
Her lectures were great. She clearly identified themes within our readings and stressed main points. She gave great real life examples
She is very knowledgeable and ethusiastic about information. Also incredibly personable and available to talk to students about course or other academic topics.
It was most helpful that Krysia was well organized, responded to emails extremely quickly, and that she was flexible with rescheduling make up tests for good reason. I appreciated that she understood a students schedule and personal emergencies. I also loved that she graded tests and assignments within days of due date
she cares about the students and cares about what we are learning. she's very articulate and makes things easy for us to understand.
How knowledgable she is!!
Krysia is very approachable and created an environment that was comfortable for discussion. Generally I do not like to speak in class but because Krysia brought up so many interesting topics it really lead me to be engaged in the course and class discussions.
I found the open nature of the class to be valuable and helpful because we were encouraged to discuss the content of the class on a daily basis.
The study guided posted for exams and the lectures that go with it. It helped me prepare for the exams better than copying from the lectures and studying everything.
29. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Krysia has done an excellent job of the subject.
VERY GOOD!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!
She was a great professor and I am a better student and person for having taken her course.
Great professor and class!
Greatly recommend Professor Mossakowski! She is a great professor and very knowledgeable.
I think she should continue teaching this class because the information is valuable to anyone and she is excellent at passing on her knowledge.
She was very enthusiastic and easy to talk to. She conveyed messages well and conducted lectures at a pace that was easy to follow
I would highly recommend Krysia as a professor and think this course should become permanent in the Sociology Department and offered every semester.
Awesome professor and person in general! I could tell of her skill set and humility for social issues just by the way she taught our class.
kind, caring, open to any discussion, and a good professor.
Fantastic!!
Krysia is a great professor, I would love to take more of her classes. She really knows the material and, in turn, is able to break it down and simplify/clarify any abstract material. Krysia also is a very approachable professor which led me to be more engaged in the class, she led me to become more involved in my classwork.
I would definitely take a class from her again! I learned so much from her and really enjoyed her teaching style.
A good professor that knows her material and also shows concern for students learning.

My overall evaluation of this course is that I highly recommend it to any student studying in the field of sociology.
This is a really interesting course that absolutely belongs in the sociology curriculum. I learned so much from this course. It was very applicable.
VERY INTERESTING!
AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!
Highly informative course. Piqued my interest in a way very few courses have throughout my academic career. I will highly suggest this course to other students.
good good good!
I really enjoyed the course. It made me more interested and concerned with the subject. I feel like I learned a lot about the subject and will apply it to my life and the way in which I view the issues of mental health and illness.
This was an excellent class. I would highly recommend it to my peers. It helped me view mental health critically. It broadened my knowledge on the topic and opened me up to new ideas. It broke stigmas of mental health
I loved this course.

Awesome!!
This course is so interesting! It should definitely be made a permanent course so others can have the same great experience I did!
Excellent course! Very informative and eye opening.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
There were many parts that you can use in your own everyday life.
doing in-class assignments. being opened to the discussions we have in class. watching famous classic sociology documentaries.
I enjoy all of the in class activities, it makes you think about what we have just learned and it helps stick in our mind better.
I loved the lecture about friendships and relationships because they are applicable to my life. I also enjoyed the small in-class activities because they helped me understand the class material better.
The overall understanding of individuals in society.
the chosen theories and videos
Class lectures are fun and interesting!
I like her and her style of teach
power point slides and examples
The lectures were most valuable because it provided more information that was not in the power points and because it stimulated some in class discussions. The in-class assignments were also valuable because it reinforced what we learned and allowed me to apply it to other experiences.
There were interesting facts that I didn't know before that I found very interesting and informative. I enjoyed learning about perspectives of what we think others see about us

Every lecture Professor Mossakowski related our topics to every day life. I think this teaching strategy connected our class to her material. Every class was fun and informative to attend.
In-class assignments allowed for newly taught material to be absorbed more effectively. It was easier to understand what the teacher was trying to teach instead of just reading it from the book and her lecturing.
Very well done lectures which inspire discussion
The in-class group assignment which brought the class together and for together.

19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
She is great. I have no further instruction for her. Last semester I requested the only thing I didn't like was she did not share any personal information. This semester she shared just the right amount to make her not as mysterious and formal. Very professional and highly intelligent.
N/A
perhaps some long term assignment to keep us involved with the course outside of scool.
I think she should talk a little slower. Also, I think putting less information on powerpoints will make it easier to follow if she is going to talk faster.
I would like more in class assignments however I do realize there may not be enough time with all the content we learn each class to have extra time do an activity.
None, I like the class just the way it is. Excellent class and professor!
possibly switch up lecture style more often
Nothing. It's perfect!
None shes very enthusiastic
of all the courses I've took from her, she has always done a fantastic job!!
The only way I can think of is to slow down slightly during the sideshows sometimes its hard to get the full notes in class, but they are put on laulima so I can still get the information
nothing
She always got students more involved and kept them interested so as long as she continues to do that I see no reason to change anything
Not to much, her teaching style is great. She knows what she is talking about and explains it very clear for us to understand.
When doing the in-class assignments, spend an equal amount of time amonst ALL the students. Majority of the time, she spent with the athletes going over the in-class assingment or discussions while numerous non-athletes were left on their own without the extra help. Better organization of lecture slides would also be good. More of an outline versus paragraphs.
keep on doing what she's doing!
Nothing much the class was perfect to me.
The class is perfect
20. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Krysia is awesome. For such a young and accomplished person, I could not be more happy to be taking my second course with her. I wish I could take my last semester course with her but sadly, i have taken all her courses. She is an awesome professor and her information sinks in. Tests are challenging but if you pay attention and study you will ace them. If possible, she should be able to teach more courses. She is really great
She's a great teacher, really knows her stuff.
She's a great teacher. I enjoy her class and the topics that are covered in the social structure of the individual. She's open to student's questions and opinions, which makes the class more interesting and interactive.
She is very peppy. Very enthusiastic, very knowledgable, and wants us to enjoy what we learn.
Dr. Mossakowski is one of the best professors I've had! Not only does she know her material, but she teaches in a way that is engaging for me. I would definitely take another class from her! Highly recommended!
She is a very good teacher easy to understand and explains everything everything well.
shes awesome
She is a great teacher and very good at communicating ideas to her students. Great job!

Shes great professor always into her lectures
two thumbs up!! Great job and would absolutely recommend her to ANYONE!!
Krysia is very knowledgeable about the course and always briefs the class before hand about what will be covered that day. She has a very calm, happy, and friendly personality which creates a welcoming environment to learn in. This is my second class that I have taken with Krysia and I plan on taking more classes with her in the future.
She is an amazing teacher and I will take her class again

it's a great class
Excellent course and teaching. I enjoyed this class very much.
It's a good way to remind us what's happening in society today. I enjoyed learning sociology through a psychological perspective.

Very good, loved the videos shown.
This was a very interesting and fun course! I'd encourage others to take this class.
Great course
awesome teacher
Awesome! I'm taking again next semester!
great
two thumbs up!!
Overall, I learned something new in every class. The subjects that I was already familiar with were only strengthened with the new material that Krysia brought to class. With the new material that I learned in class, I was excited to share outside of class. The expectations for this course were clearly explained in class as well as in the syllabus.
This course is interesting and has many things that can be used as life skills for the future.
really good tacher
Awesome class
I learned a lot, and am glad I took it this year.
The course was very interesting with a lot (maybe just a little too much) information. Would take another course with her.

10. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I feel the in class assignments, and the guest speakers were very helpful. The most valuable was the final assignment of creating a teaching portfolio. I believe the professor provided great guidance and feedback regarding what goes into a teaching portfolio that will significantly prepare us for the job market and our careers as professors or any type of educator. I think this class should be a staple in the department to assist in the professional development of grad students planning on teaching. It has greatly assisted in my professional growth and I would recommend others to take the course.
It was nice having a variety of different professors come in and talk about their careers, their perspectives, their philosophies, and teaching styles.
The practical application of the material.
Guest speakers
The course was well organized and the required readings were interesting, relevant, and manageable (emphasis on manageable). The assignments helped students apply what was taught in the course to real life situations and were also useful in helping students grow academically as well as professionally. Assignments were also challenging, but didn't leave students feeling overwhelmed.
Guest speakers
Putting together the teaching portfolio was very valuable because it is something students interested in being a professor in the future can use in their career.
I really enjoyed the assigned readings, the in-class assignments/group work, and the guest speakers. Overall, this course really helped me to think about what type of professor I want to be in the future and Iʻm excited/overwhelmed by the possibilities.
The diversity of speakers, the readings, the brainstorming sessions...all of it.
The course does a GREAT job meeting the objectives specified on the syllabus - all of it useful.

19. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Honestly, I wouldn't change much. It touched on a wide range of issues that are important to teaching. I think the one thing I would do differently is make sure we have time for discussion of that week's materials even on the days when we had speakers. That wasn't a big problem, though.
Just build on student in-class input from previous/present classes for future classes.
Allow more time for discussion on days when guest speakers visit.
I do not feel there is anything Krysia can do to improve the course as it was well thought out from start to finish. Although this course was not initially my first choice, I benefited significantly from attending and would recommend it to students in the future.
I liked the course the way it was taught. There aren't really any suggestions.
Some guest speakers were much more interesting and on topic than others. Some deserve an invite back and others can be replaced.
No need to improve anything. Make sure this course keeps getting offered, and Krysia is a great choice of instructor.
20. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
she provided great insight and guidance regarding the different topics covered in the course. I also feel she did a great job in organizing the course, the course readings, and having multiple professors come in to speak with the class and share their different teaching philosophies. I also think it was great that she had the students guest lecture an undergrad course at UH and provide feedback regarding their lecture.
She is interesting, dedicated to the course and its subject matter, and I'm glad that I had a chance to take this course.
She will continue to be successful and well-liked.
Excellent, honest approach and knows what she's talking about.
Overall, Krysia is an excellent professor. She is extremely organized, fair, accessible, makes classes interesting, and genuinely cares about the growth and success of her students. She also takes into consideration the fact that students are from different departments and are at different stages in their academic and professional careers, which was refreshing to say the least.
Excellent instructor, affable person.
A great teacher and mentor. I enjoyed being in her class and felt that she was on the student's side. Her enthusiasm for teaching was nice and it made me want to teach, too.
She is a wonderful professor, an excellent role model for students, and a very knowledgable person. I wish I could take more courses from her.

24. My overall evaluation of this course is...
I really enjoyed the course and feel it has contributed to my professional growth and prepared me for the job market more than any other grad course I have taken. I would highly recommend this course to others planning on teaching, especially at the University level.
I thought it was great. I would recommend it to other people interested in teaching. The final output of the course (i.e., our portfolio) makes me feel better prepared to seek a teaching position.
The invited speakers and the interactive nature of the course help develop aspects that you may be missing or need strengthening in your own approach to teaching.
A very useful course for those teaching or considering teaching. It offers a good opportunity to really think about different aspects of teaching and the kind of teacher you want to become, and practically to work on a teaching statement and syllabus that you can use to apply for jobs.
This course was interesting and extremely useful due to the fact that it was very practical. I feel that more courses at UH, particularly in the sociology department, should be modeled after this course because it assists students in exploring potential careers and provides them with practical skills that could be used in a variety of settings.
Interesting and helpful. I would suggest all students thinking of teaching take this course.
I really enjoyed this course and am glad I had the opportunity to take it. I would like to start teaching next year, and this was a great way of prepping myself for it.
It was a great course for professional development. Iʻm very glad I took it.
Extremely helpful. I feel like this course has already had a positive impact on how I teach undergraduate courses.

Dr. Mossakowski was a great instructor. Her presentations were very interesting with a lot of humor. She is very energetic and clear with her teaching. Made me want to come to class every time.
Came to class everyday with speech and powerpoint ready and organized!! Always had very helpful explications of all material to help learn it! One of the best sociology teachers I had! I am so thrilled with her teaching skills I will be looking foward to seeing her again next semester! SHe is very prepared and easy to understand! She is an excellent teacher! Very knowledgeable and has great teaching style.
She really believes in what she is teaching. Her class was very enjoyable, something i actually want to learn. I enjoy how she sets the curriculum to match up with the time of year, that really helps to prepare us and opens our eyes to much ignored but useful information.Like STDs during valentine, or Alcohol consumption during Spring Break- Now we can't say you never warned us!
Well organized, extremely knowledgeable about the material, enthusiastic, and very well in communicating and breaking down course material for students to understand it.

This course was great. I hope Dr. Mossakowski will continue teaching this course. The topics covered were diverse and allowed critical thinking. I liked how the exams were non-cumulative too.
Awesome, I learned a lot of things I had no idea about. The material and Krysia's comments always had me thinking about it days after class about how it related to my life and society. BRILLIANT!
amazing
Medical sociology is very relevant to my life. There were a lot of sociological factors in the medical field that I was not aware off before I took this class.
Professor Mossakowski did a great job this semester. Her lectures were very informative and interesting.
The course is filled with medical terminology and Krysia makes the terminology easier for the students to grasp.
Very well structured.
I learned so much from this course very interesting and I feel I will use everything I learned in this class in my future job.
Excellent class would definitely recommend to my peers and friends especially if taught by her.
Great course.
This course was great because it has not only taught my a great number of valuable things but has also raised my awareness and behavior about how important our health really is.
interesting material that was made better by the professor
I really like the class, it is interesting to hear about medical issues that plague society from a sociology perspective.
good insight
I liked it a lot. This is my second class with Professor Mossakowski and both times I left the class more interested and knowledgeable about medical sociology.
Interesting. It made me think more about how sociology should be studied more in medicine.
great course! i learned a lot!
the course is interesting some parts are dry and hard to get through but overall all of the information was interesting and presented in a way that kept me interested
good for students who want to learn about the medical side to sociology.
A fair and well prepared course, with plenty of opportunity to gain points and perform well. She has a good system set up for attendance and the tests. The power points are clear, and the videos are relevant and interesting. The in-class assignments are engaging.
I enjoyed the materials assigned in this class and the class discussion. It was interesting hearing about other students backgrounds and ideas on the subjects.
Many interesting materials covered throughout this course. Great class that can teach you many fascinating things that are important to society and to your personal life.

I liked the course in general, but there is too much reading. There is not enough time for research.
Extremely practical. Coherently structured.
17. Other comments:
It would be nice if half the semester was half learning and the other half time to do research and write something that is pertaining to research. People who work full time more than one job can't keep up with the amount of work.
Dr. Mossakowski is an asset to the UH-Manoa campus. Her expertise is complemented by her ability to lead meaningful discussions and encourage productive thought.

She is a good teacher with power point presentations that get her message across.
excellent professor who gives excellent lectures and is very helpful to her students during the lectures and when writing a research paper.
Very good. She's a great edition to the UH Manoa Sociology department.
Very intelligent.
She is a very knowledgeable teacher and knows what she is talking about. She made class fun and I looked forward to coming to class.
She is very motivated and encouraging.
Great professor, one of the best I have ever had. I would take another class from her, as long as it has the same teaching style.
Dr. Mossakowski is a wonderful lecturer- her talks are always interesting and engaging. She is very engaged with social issues - theory is alwasy connected to real life implications.
awesome teacher and UHM should be very happy to have her! she is able to share her knowledge about medical sociology which we don't understand well, but is able to expand students understanding about society and peoples environment.
She was very helpful in helping me narrow down a topic for my final paper. She knows her material, knows where to find help for finding information that she doesn't know. Very easy to communicate with.
one of the best instructors i came across like my previous topguns like, Porfessors Haija, Edwards, Wood,Johnson and Oneill.Mossakowski is the same..All of them 5 stars and two thumbs up!!!..no doubt!!!,..mahalo..
Fantastic; glad to have had her as a professor this semester
An extremely knowledgeable instructor. I would definitely recommend her to other students.
The material was presented well and she had a very good knowledge of the material. She also explained it clearly and efectively.

awesome!!!
Interesting course that I would highly recommend.
Good! i found it very useful and informative
I learned a lot from this course and I sometimes share the same knowledge with my friends outside of class. It was very interesting.
I enjoyed learning the content provided in the course.
Very interesting and informative course.
This is a very thoughtful and interesting course, and well worth taking.
great course with a great teacher
Amazing course! The UH Sociology dept. should have more Medical Sociology, Sociology of Medicine, Health related sociology courses!
best instructed..
A very interesting course. I learned a lot about medical sociology.
A very good course, I would recomend taking it to other students.
18. Other comments:
I think focus on the paper should have been emphasized a bit earlier in the semester (this is hawaii, where people are often on hawaiian time, after all), but otherwise the course was great. I'd recommend it to anyone with an interest in health/medicine or social inequality/justice issues.
recommendations:10/10..
I will be taking Dr. Mossakowski's SOC 354 class next semester

16. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
In general, this was exactly what I expected from the class. This may seem normal, but it's amazing when all too often a class doesn't turn out the way they thought it would be. Dr. Mossakowski is able to push gently, a professorial skill which is rare. She expects high standards, but does so with encouragement and with great structure. I actually learned more about the topic of the class in a significant way, and I don't think that is a passive outcome.
Awesome class!
Krysia's never ending support of student development is highly motivating, and the course has led me to feel prepared for research in an area of sociology I had not previously considered. This course, and her style of instruction, both have helped me gain a greater understanding of the theoretical and practical ways that sociological innovation can help sustain a more informed and equitable community.

Dr. Mossakowski is an excellent professor. She is extremely knowledgeable, professional and amiable.
Excellent instructor, professional and compassionate.
Very good professor. I'm grateful she is in the UH Manoa Sociology program. I was able to have hope about being published someday. I also realized what I wanted to focus on as a researcher and sociologist because of her. I changed my focus to Medical Sociology with a focus on Korea.
She is good but her quantity of reading makes hard to maintain quality. The way she asks students for assignment is great because it helps to enter the professional world. However, Please consider for amount of reading and reactions papers. Her course is very interesting. I like to take her course but I am little worried if I will be unable to maintain the quality for other courses while taking her course because I always find pouring on her readings while neglecting other courses of the semester. She is a great teacher. Please keep on motivating students for publication and presentation. She shows the students the possible horizon of academic world. I really like her intention not just to teach a course for a semester but to show a way to their academic career for the future. Her own work and publication are very impressive and motivating for students.
Excellent teacher. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable.

20. My overall evaluation of this course is...
If you want to have a heavy discussion course with a professor who is active in the field, then this is the class for you. Her focus towards professional development is greatly appreciated and refreshing to have. Few professors are able to balance serious theoretical discussion, with pragmatic academic career building advice. Dr. Mossakowski by far excels in this skill.
I do like the way that students have to write reaction paper so that motivate students to read the paper and help us understand more deeply about the readings. However, I feel it is overloaded to write reaction papers every week and response to every articles. Graduate students do not take only once course and there are a lot of readings that we are supposed to read.I think the reaction paper that I wrote each week is not really productive because I do not really have enough time working on it. If we are supposed to write only one reaction paper response to one article that we are interested in the most, that will be more valid and qualitative.
very challenging and rewarding, the curriculum is organized impeccably.
Excellent course, should be required all graduate students.
was excellent. I realized things about myself as well as patterns in society.
This is very valuable course. She sets such a high criteria for the course, sometimes I feel hard to complete. The numbers of reactions papers makes you feel like how much you need to finish for this week rather than how much you learn. Therefore, for quality reason, the quantity for reaction papers should be minimized. Otherwise, the way she is asking to do everything is very professional. One important thing is - I think it would better to motivate the students to work on their main project rather than the completely new stuff.
Highly enlightening, although, it comes with quite a bit of written work.

Thank you for a wonderful semester.
I'm taking another Medical Sociology course with Krysia Mossakowski next semester.
Despite few comments, I like her course. She motivates students for writing. One thing is that she is very motivating person to encourage students for publication which is very good. She is helpful too. I learnt many things from her class. Her intention to prepare the students for academic world is one of the best parts.
