cool teacher. Want to be like him in future :)
This professor truly knows Statistics, and although it was a though class to bare because I don't like to number crunch, I felt he has done a good job presenting the information through multiple methods. Being able to relate the readings to real life examples and real people/ job positions was a nice insight as well. He shares his passion and interest of this subject and offer extensive help when needed made me as a student respect the field of statistics more.
Nice teacher; clear explanation; good homework setting; helpful course material.
You were able to make a relatively dry subject and make it fun and interesting. I liked how you gave "real world" examples and shared your own personal experiences and related it to what you were teaching. Great teacher!!!
I have never met another Professor who is genuinely passionate about their job. Chris absolutely loves Stats! He definitely made this difficult crash course exciting and challenging. I will be recommending him to any other peers that need to take a Stats or finance class. Such a helpful and honest professor with a big heart!
Great prof. Cares about his students and puts a lot of time into making sure everyone knows what is expected of them in the course.
It was such a nice class. He reviewed the material that we cover past days to refresh our memory and it was very helpful to memorize the terms and definitions. I can tell that he really loves teaching so it was very interesting to take his class. I will recommend other students to take his class.
I feel that more time needs to be spent explaining how to produce the graphs in the excel portion of the homework during class. Also, as helpful as the test study guides are, I feel that the problems in the study exam are much more different in the exam making it difficult to implement the study guide with the exam.
Professor Chris is not only one of the best instructors i have ever had, but definitely a great human being which is rare for college professors.
He was very helpful anytime. I liked reviews in the beginning of the class.
Because this is an applied class I can't say that all the formulas were used, but the formulas were presented in a way that I could understand. Chris went over the material so that everyone could understand and if someone didn't understand we would break it down and relate it to something we had previously went through. The only thing about this class that I didn't like, was that the test wasn't returned to us. I would of liked to of seen what problems I had gotten wrong. I really enjoyed this class as it was well. As long as you had prior excel knowledge you would get a lot from this class.
great professor. he shows that he cares for his students by being available all the time to make sure they grasp the material. He also shows us realistic ventures that utilizes statistics, such as video chats with his friends who currently use statistics for their jobs.
Chris is the best teacher I have ever had. He knows the material very well. The fact that he teaches because he enjoys the subject is what makes the class fun. I like the class because Chris relates the material to real world applications. He is just not a teacher. He is a true business man who teaches on the side to pass on his knowledge. My favorite part of the class was having the high-level executive guest speakers from major American corporations. If more professors were like Chris UH Manoa would be the best business school in the country.
Chris was a very great professor and he really cares about his students to make sure that they understand. One of the best professors I have ever had!
Chris cares for his students very much. He is one of the very few professors that I have encountered in my college life where he is teaching because he loves it, not because he has to. His passion to impart his knowledge to his students lends to all of the students being attracted to his classes. I have heard quite a few stories about him and I was excited to actually take his class. I think he lived up to his standards, despite it being a pretty hard class to teach. Despite not getting the best grade that I wanted to get, I think that I learned a lot in this class, and I think that will push me forward than my grade ever will. Thank you, Chris, for giving me the skills I need to succeed in the future.
I am really enjoy taking this class, but there are just one thing I want to point out. The exam and homework is a little bit too hard. Everytime when I do the homework problem set takes at least 5 hours to finish, even the midterm exam we got an opportunity to start half hours in advance, most of us stay till the last minute, which means the exam is not easy. But beside the difficulty exam and homework everything else is awesome. Thank you so much for being a such good teacher.
Great teacher. Related material to real life and sports to help me understand the material better. Taught more than just stats, he helped me realize that anything is possible. I will always remember the quote " Something isn't a mistake unless you don't do anything to correct it, then its a mistake".
Probably one of the best teachers I've ever had. The material itself was very difficult, but Chris made it more understandable and really cared that his students understand the material and pass.
Best professor I have had at the University of Hawaii. He made me proud to be a Business student here.
If I have the opportunity to take any more classes from Chris, I will.
Best Teacher i've ever had. Shows true inspiration towards teaching. Really cares about students learning the material he is teaching. I LOVE STATS NOW!
Good, hard, and fun class that made students think and use all of the tools we learned throughout the class.
You are a simply amazing professor. I feel lucky to have had you. The way you go over the course material every day is super helpful to help me review. I felt like I didn't have to study as much. It was super helpful. I like the way you repeat the important things over and over again. Super super helpful! Thank you!
I think if we had more time and we were not a summer class, it would be a cool idea to do problems from the homework or at least problems like the homework. Also I think that it would be nice to have the quizzes answers available after your two tries.

I rarely used the book since Chris explains the material in a different way, which makes more sense. When I did have to refer to the book, it always make things even more confusing to me. Having 10 problem sets was actually a lot of work. I found it difficult to stay on top of all of the assignment since they were build on top of each other. I might be better to decrease the number of problem sets for a semester. I enjoyed the fact that Chris knows unexpected things happen in life and give students time to be able to turn assignments later and not get docked a lot of points. It allows me to fully understand the information better and take my time learning the information. I also liked the fact that Chris would always repeat the order of things that we learned over the semester. So population and statistic to categorical vs. discrete data to probability to all the different tests to run in statistics. Very helpful for me to be able to see the big picture.
Very well taught class. I think what would make the students more "into" learning in this class are more connections with class material to everyday life. Doing more sample problems during lecture and creating problems that are relevant to students, like loans, etc. If you really wanted to know if all the students are understanding at least 70% there should be random quizes that test weather the students do understand the material or they're BS-ing you. I am not a statistic teacher, nor will i be one in the foreseeable future. I know it's not your responsibility to make sure students are learning, but it;d be a good teaching tool. I learned a lot from this class and this makes me want to become a statistician, but it seems that the future of this industry is more than meets the eye. Very good and well taught class, very good that all resources were available since day 1.
Professor Chris is extremely enthusiastic, and very thorough. He really makes sure that we learn the material and tries to clear things up when we get confused. Although he has endless handouts for every situation, I wish it was divided on a week by week basis sometimes because I think it would be easier to find relevant handouts. Other than that, I'm extremely impressed by his teaching abilities. He also makes it interesting by showing us what statisticians make in the real world.
Even though this class was quite hard, it was enjoyable at the same time because Professor Rachal explained thoroughly. He always tries to help student to the best of his ability.
Challenging, but great teacher. Thank you so much
This was a great course and awesome teacher. Great explanations and he really cares about the students.
I opened the textbook once for homework. Everything is explained in the lectures and handouts that are available so well that buying the textbook was a complete waste of money. It's also a loose- leaflet textbook, so I can't even sell it back for some money back. It was an expensive investment that I wish I hadn't made.
Chris is always available for help. Overall, good class and good instructor. He's really passionate about this and goes above and beyond in making sure everyone understands why this information is important for a job in business. It really comes through in his teaching and rubs off on the students. Sometimes, I felt like the lectures were a little disorganized. For example, instead of going over the lecture power point, we would run through an example to teach us instead. This is fine except when we did this, we skipped over important concepts that needed to be covered and jumped around a lot which made it harder to follow what was going on in the lecture. I gave a neutral to question 14 because these powerpoints have SO MANY TYPOS and mistakes in them. I know they are from the publisher and Chris is not at fault, but these mistakes were so great, it sometime affected the ability to understand the material. Otherwise, all the bonus materials were great. I would also recommend making an announcement on laulima or sending out an email when a new problem set is posted. Sometimes I didn't know there was homework until the night before it was due. The course schedule was based on the fall semester so I had no date references to expect when it was coming. I had a bad preconceived notion of stats. I was worried about this class a lot, but I'm leaving with a real love of stats and I would definitely be interested in going into more depth of forecasting and such. It is something I plan on continuing in, so despite my criticisms of the class, it was a job well done. Thanks for a great class and great semester!
Awesome professor. Really cared that all of his students understood the material before we moved to the next chapter. Highly recommended
I would definitely recommend this instructor. He understands what the students are going through and is willing to help them through the problems. Excellent teaching, very knowledgeable, and made the content understandable.
Professor Rachal is a great Shidler teacher. He is very understanding and is always available for his students for support and extra help.
Chris is one of the better professors I have had at think University. He wants to see all of his students do well in his class. If he sees even one person struggling a little bit during the lecture he will take the time to help that student on the spot until they understand.
It has been a pleasure to have Chris Rachal as my instructor this semester. Chris' enthusiasm is ever present in his lectures and the participation he receives from the classroom. His methodology of teaching, his engagement with the students, the unbelievable knowledge he brings into the classroom to bring life to the curriculum, and his availability outside of the classroom to speak with the students has helped shape a generally dreaded course into one that I look forward to every week. I've requested that he expand his curriculum to undergraduates to include a forecasting course that's currently only available to graduate students. My only regret with this semester is that I am unable to leave a witty statistics related joke here. That would prove how much I've learned from him.
Best class in Shidler thus far! The way you teach made me love stats and now I am more interested in it. As an HR major, I'm not quite sure if I will be working with all these numbers and creating stats. But I want to! So hopefully I get to do more in the future, but if not, I am considering taking more classes just for the fun of it. I want to learn more! The entire class built up to regression and now I want more haha. But really, you did such a great job this semester and it is going to be sad going to new classes with new teachers because I will be holding them up to your high standard of teaching! Thanks for a great semester!
one of the best professors i've had in my career at UH. :) very helpful and had a strong passion for his students' success.
great teacher, obviously knows his stuff inside and out, up and down, backwards and forwards. i almost never answer "strongly agree" on any of these surveys, but this professor definitely deserves them. quite possibly the best class i've had in my 4 years at this university
Even though it was required I did enjoy the class. He is extremely helpful, knows what he is talking about and can communicate effectively.
He is very professional and passionate. He teaches students to understand the materials. I would say he is a real professional professor in the school.
Best Stats Teacher!
Great professor

I really learned a lot from Dr. Chris Rachal's lectures and reference materials. The textbook was helpful, but a bit technical: With equations to calculate the statistics manually. I also learned a lot from the problem set group work. Working with a team mate that wanted to learn more about statistics also was invaluable. However, some team-mates did not really want to learn the concepts and just wanted the problem set answers, every week. So helping them, was time-consuming and problematic; although the initial experience was fulfilling. In class we learned some about the history/origins of the people and concepts that comprise statistics. I thought that this was very important because it gave me a contextual perspective; from which to understand the content. Due to this being a business class, we definitely benefited from the real-world applications. An idea to add to this, would be to form teams around a particular industry/company and apply each week's concepts to this company or industry. For instance, during the first week, we would form teams of maybe 2-4 members and choose an industry/company (perhaps from a list) to focus on throughout the semester (for instance, electronics and BestBuy). Then when we learn about each week's statistical concepts, we could apply them, via the problem set to our company and industry: For instance, chi-square and MS Excel calculations. Another option would be to have team work dealing with student groups summarizing and teaching the essential concepts to the class, possibly on a weekly basis. Since we meet twice a week, maybe the first class of the week could be dedicated to learning from the professor, and the second class of the week would be a chance for student teams to demonstrate their knowledge and gain valuable presentation/public speaking experience. Installing PHstat was a challenge for me, but very rewarding when it finally worked. One thing that could be improved would be accessibility to teaching assistants, from the first day of class, onward. We had their contact information, yet they were not approachable or visible (possibly because of their busy schedules). Nor were they present and available towards the Problem Set deadlines. It would be great if they sat in on classes towards the homework due dates, and volunteered to help students after/before class in the Netlab. I know I would be interested in doing so, if needed. Finally, I want to say thank you, for helping me learn.
one of the best teachers i ever had
He should seriously teach more courses. Best teacher I've had at Shidler, hands down.
Professor Rachal is very knowledgeable in this subject. He made sure that we were all on board with what's going on in class. He's constantly checking if we all understand, and if we didn't, he took that extra step to help us and make sure we got the help we needed. I'm glad that he was able to help me through this course, and always encouraged us to ask questions and go to him for help if we needed it.
If you get this class you lucked out. Chris changed my view of stats being this impossible subject to learn. He takes concepts that are foreign and difficult and breaks them down to make them easier.
One of my favorite classes this semester. Chris Rachal is a great teacher and is always free to answer questions and explains everything thoroughly in class.
Great instructor, He always help students to understand better in the concept
The only thing that I did not like about this class is that even though he provided lots of resources to look at, it was hard to find some things because of his naming conventions. He had a lot of folders that I wasn't always sure what was in each or how to find some things. As well as when I would be in a folder, I sometimes wouldn't know what one file is about. Also, he doesn't let you know that problem sets were put out so you would have to check consistently otherwise you would miss the submission.
Professor Rachal is extremely approachable and knowledgeable about his course. He tries his hardest so that everyone in the class is on the same page, and really takes pride in his teaching. He is always open to questions whether they be about stats or something else. He allows his students to call him Chris and is extremely helpful to students who want to find a career in forecasting.
Chris is a great professor and he makes sure that every student in the class understands the material before moving on. He does a great job by reviewing what we have learned in our previous classes in the beginning of each class. I highly recommend students to take his class if they are interested in statistics.
Really great teacher that always has the resources that are needed to help students ready on the first day of class. Tests were difficult, considering the fact that he said that it would be based on the homework. The tests were open notes but still pretty hard if you don't truly under the material.
The only thing I would say that could be done differently is that the resources on Laulima need to be more organized and/or focused into what we need. There was a lot of unnecessary stuff on there that the good stuff got lost in.
Great guy and teacher. His dance moves at Super Clubs Day were on point too.
Chris is a near perfect instructor, and I consider it a privilege to have been taught by him this semester.
great course, awesome professor
Chris is a good professor, he showed care about students.
Every class meeting was met with a review of the previous material. This style of teaching is new to me, but I liked it. Rachal made sure that every person in the class was on the same page everyday he taught and if he thought a student was unsure about a topic in his class, he would cover the material again; but in a different way. Rachal made statistics fun and rewarding.
In this class, there was so many resources for students to succeed. Chris is the best teacher that I've had so far throughout my college experience, he truly loves teaching and wants us to succeed. He gives us all the resources to succeed and if we do not succeed he see's it as a failure on his part that he did not do his job and teach us. I appreciate having a teacher so dedicated to his students and his subject. Thanks for a great semester.
In the beginning of every class, professor review the what we learn before; it is good for us to memory the objects. However, sometime i think it spend too much time on it.

After learning the material in the course, I would like to learn more about statistics, and possibly pursue a career in this field in the future. Having taken this course concurrently with another statistics course helped me to understand the concepts more clearly. For me, it would have been helpful if we actually learned how to manually compute the equations, because I am more of a hands on learner. Overall, this course was very informative, and I feel like I got my money's worth
I enjoyed this semester! I learned a lot, but sometimes, I felt like we glossed over the theory sections, so we didn't always understand why we're analyzing this particular set of data using this certain concept. Overall, though, this class was fun!
Great teacher, and definitely very knowledgable on the subject of stats!
Chris Rachel was one of the best professor i have had the honor of learning from while at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He was very knowledgeble of the subject matter and went above and beyond in his attempts to help students, answer questions, and make himself available via office hours or email/skype. He was also very enthusiastic about statistics and showed all his students the passion he has for business stats. Great guy! Great Professor!
I enjoyed coming to this class! He had a way of taking extremely complex material and making it easier to understand!
well organized and lots of helpful material on laulima. resources on laulima made it easier to prepare for exams and other assignments.
Asking if student have questions is by far the best part about this class. Perfect examples, well explained, a great semester for a confusing topic. Wish i could take this class again.
I think he is VERY knowledgeable about the subject and the material, but has a hard time conveying the information and teaching in a manner that students completely understand. Sometimes I feel as if he is just talking and reassuring/teaching himself/ speaking the information out loud, and not teaching in a manner that is helpful to students who have never learned about it before.
Chris Rachal seems to be very passionate about the curriculum and is always very eager and willing to help anyone who needs it. He does whatever he can to see his students succeed.
Really loved this class. While many of the topics we learned was a review for me from taking AP Statistics in High School, Professor Rachal was able to make relearning a lot of the content engaging and easy for students to understand. I really appreciate his method of teaching and how he tries to accommodate to everyone's learning styles. Professor Rachal's shows his passion for teaching at every class lecture, and tries to make Statistics applicable to each of his students lives. Thank you for a wonderful semester!
Excellent professor. By far, one of the most interesting courses I have taken
Great teacher overall. I did have some issues with responding to my emails. I have sent numerous emails that have gone unreturned. Other than that, excellent teacher!
Great professor! Really knows his stuff and is open to suggestions and questions. Love the summary build-up we have at the start of class. Sometimes can get confusing when explaining the excel in relation to the different tests (ie. t-test,anova) and regression. The content and all the spreadsheets for regression get a little overwhelming, so it would be helpful to provide us with a vocab list of what all the variables and other values (ie. significance f, coefficients, standard error, etc.)while we go over the spreadsheets so we can absorb the info and not get lost. Just a list that's simple to read that describes the function/how to read it would be great. I know it's kind of late to be suggesting this now, but hopefully that will at least help in teaching future students.
Awesome teacher!!! Definitly one of the best teachers I have ever had at UH! I would recommend him to anyone and EVERYONE! I learned alot in this class and the tools he posted on Laulima were incredibly helpful!
I liked this professor a lot however sometimes when he is trying to explain something to the class he tries to make metaphors which confuses the class more. I think if he focused more on basic examples the concepts would be clearer, rather than trying to relate the content to a students personal likes/dislikes. Although, the sentiment to trying to connect to students on a more personal level is appreciated.
Good Job Professor.
Great teacher and made me see positively of statistics
The course was enjoyable and very accommodating. Although stats is not the most interesting class, the different styles of learning did make it easier. I personally feel that the class would of been a lot more difficult if it was just a lecture.
I actually learned a good amount in the class. The biggest thing I will take away from the class is how important statistics are used in business decisions.
Too many documents on laulima. Makes it harder rather than easier to find what we want.
He is a solid teacher. Really enjoyed being in his class. Learned a lot from his teaching and he is very fair.
Great teacher and very well structured and taught class. Very helpful with the homework and provided ample time to complete in class and at home. Would recommend to any incoming shidler student.

Statistics can be very boring for someone like myself, Chris helped me engage in the material. Good teacher!
Very fair professor. Always willing to help and very knowledgable about the subject matter.
The repetition of concepts was helpful in learning and understanding the material. Very accommodating to a variety of students' learning styles. Extra credit opportunities helps motivate students. Allowing us to work in groups creates a better learning environment. Thank you for everything!
Great work, I love your teaching style. However, I cannot stand the way the homework is set up. Needs more polishing, way to many spelling errors and unclear instructions. I feel like I understand what I learned from class but that the material for homework has a different emphasis.
I really liked this course because I really felt that I learned a lot and how the material applies to the real world. I really liked how one of our classes, we got to apply how to do regression on phstat and excel. For next semester, it would be great to have more days like that. I felt that our class really benefited from that day because we got to see how running the application was done. It helps us learn better by applying the material in class. Awesome course and professor overall!
Mr. Rachal clearly has extensive experience in effectively getting his students to learn. Everything he covered was explained clearly, and he repeated critical topics as many times as needed to really imply its importance. He has an extensive amount of extra resources that he has made available to students so they can see examples and practice work, making sure that the students have as much guidance as possible, even when they are not in the classroom. The only problem that arose with Mr. Rachal is that he can sometimes be quite soft-spoken, so if I was not sitting towards the front of the class, it would occasionally be hard to hear him.
Professor Rachal is very passionate about the subject he teaches. He genuinely cares about the students and does everything he can to make sure the student understands the material. He provides numerous handouts and references to assist the student in better comprehending the subject.
Chris is very knowledgeable about statistics. I really like how Chris offers tons of resources to help students do better in class.
He has this down to a science, and his comprehensive reviews made my life as a student a lot easier. I'm taking more classes than the norm, so it really helps me to make sure I actually understand what I need to for this class. I think more can be done to stress how this course applies to other courses, e.g. Finance. I'm taking BUS 314 concurrently and I saw how students don't really make the connection between the topics learned in 310, and they had to relearn the material.
Chris offers many resources on laulima for students to use. I found it to be very helpful ! I enjoy how he is able to passionate for what he teaches and is able to have a "check-point" for each student asking us if we understand the material. I had some trouble learning the material, and he was more than willing to help out. If I had any questions, he emailed in a timely manner. He is a great professor!
The course was good it was a bit confusing starting with examples on the chalk board instead of with the power points. Overall it was a good class.
It seemed like you knew the stuff and were confident in knowing it. Had lots of resources avaliable for students to use. Was very good in doing reviews and making sure everyone had a good understanding of the material.
Though a very tough class, Chris made it very understandable and in totality, tied the course material to relevant skills needed in the job market.
I thought this class was awesome! Though I was challenged, and had a difficult time through some of the explanations, you always did your best to answer our questions. The only thing I would review and possibly change is the last portion of the mid-term, where we had to connect the types of graphs to the questions. Many of us struggled with this portion, and I still have a hard time understanding the connection. Overall, excellent course!
You da best!
Great professor who simplifies concepts without "dumbing" it down to have student understand. Materials and resources are a big help and I had an aversion to statistics and math in general, but to my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed this course.
One of the best Professors I had this semester.
I feel like Professor Rachal, overwhelms us with his information on certain topics. Sometimes it may be really confusing how he stops at one point and goes on to a different topic and then goes back to the previous topic which prevents me from getting the point, but overall, he is very helpful and he is the first professor that I've seen who enjoys teaching. He is very thoughtful about his students and he tries to make sure we learn and understand his lectures.
Very organized course with a lot of supplemental material. Glad I had him as a teacher.
good professor, no comments
Hands down, Chris is one of my most favorite instructors I've ever had.... Ever. Clear, concise, humble, funny, and confident. His confidence in himself made me confident in him as an instructor. I wish I would've taken his 310 in the first place. He genuinely cares about us learning and understanding the material, which is hard to come by these days. All in all, wonderful course!
Professor Rachal did a great job in making sure that each person understands the material. He has a lot of resources for his students to refer to.
Excellent work. Thank you for everything! I feel like I learned a lot!
GREAT MENTOR! I learned a lot from this class all thanks to his helpful style of teaching in multiple ways to make sure everyone gets what he is saying :)
I was excited for the class, but my excitement fizzled out toward the end of the semester. It would have been nice to get more involved in the class, like group work or in class assignments where the teacher could help right away. Ended up zoning out when ppt slides came up.

One of the best classes I took so far. He is a great teacher and has a lot of knowledge. Thumbs up :)
I learned a lot in this class and I would recommend this professor to anyone that wants to learn statistics and how to apply it to the real world.
Chris is an excellent professor. He is a perfect example of a teacher who is very passionate about his job. Chris made the course very exciting by using real world examples of the use of statistics in his class. He seems like a very energetic and lively teacher who tries to encourage all of his students to participate in class. The material is difficult but Chris uses different techniques of learning to ensure everyone is on the same page. What is most important I think is that even outside of the classroom he is a very nice teacher who will spend a few minutes of his time to talk to his students which shows that he truly cares about them.
One of the best teachers I've had. Highly recommend taking Stats with him. Always available and willing to help students. Is very knowledgeable about what he teaches!
Professor Rachal will be highly recommended to anyone in need of a Statistics class. He is very patient and walks you through the information when you don't understand. He doesn't make you feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask questions. I love the way he can explain things in such a way that helps you undertstand. This is my first class at University of Hawaii and I am very please it was Mr. Rachal's class! I am looking forward to being a UH graduate! :)
Very useful class but HARD
The way you reviewed lecture material every class day was great! I've never had a professor go to such great heights so students can truly understand the material
Great teacher. Never fire him.
Chirs Rachal is a best professor I've ever have, he's helpful and thoughtful teacher and he finds difference kind of way to support your knowledge. you should take his class because you will find it interesting.
He is a good professor. He breaks difficult concepts into simpler forms. Really enjoyed his class. He is a very fair grader as well.
Got me excited about statistics.
The teacher is good at going step by step to explain how things work in statistics
Some questions are really hard to get the answer.
I wish more professors would teach like him it makes it easier to understand, organized, and fair. If every teacher was like him more people would learn more and understand things better, Need more teacher like him!
Although the course itself is challenging, I'm glad I took your class! Great professor!
One of the best teachers I've seen!
He is one of the best professors I've ever had at UH Manoa. He really cares about us learning the subject matter, and takes the time to check where everyone is at with understanding the concepts every class! He makes sure that all concepts or equations are clearing by not only saying them multiple times, but by saying them in different ways if he sees someone not understanding. The assignments are very clear and not confusing as he makes sure to make explain the directions clearly.
He is the best teacher I have never experienced.
Best stats teacher. strongly recommend
He shows a lot of passion towards the development of students. He encourages every student to try their best. He has a lot of motivational quotes and shows a open mind to students. He is the best teacher I had.
Chris is a great teacher because he really wants all of his students to succeed and understand the material he is covering. He allows class time to go over homework and ask questions before submitting it. He also will go over difficult sections of the lecture until everyone is on the same page. I like his style of teaching because he breaks down the concepts so they are very easy to understand. Also the way he teaches the information makes it so everything is a building block for the next lecture. You learn the basics and then how to apply them to more complex situations.

This class was hard class. However, professor Rachal really cares his students. He asked us if we understand or not. Every time I asked professor about stats, he explained very clearly. He helped me to understand Statistics a lot. I learned a lot in this class. Thank you very much.
I really enjoyed taking this course!
Proessor Rachal, despite having a reputation for conducting a challenging and very demanding class, is what I consider the perfect archetypal Professor regarding his generosity and willingness to work with his students. He has made what I consider one of the most difficult classes I have taken to be one of the most intriguing and satisfying classes I have ever taken, due to his extensive time and effort he has provided in terms of giving us the proper material and resources to fully understand the course material. Professor Rachal has given me a new sense of vigor and responsibility with regards to my approach towards my studies. I enjoyed his class immensely, and hope that I have the opportunity to study under a Professor as knowledgeable and generous as he is.
Teacher explained the material well. :)
Wonderful professor who really knows the material well. He care for his students and really want us to do well in the class. I really like how chris includes the class to participate as well as makes sure everyone understands and is on the same page before moving on to the next lesson.
One of the best classes I've ever had at UH Manoa. It wasn't easy but that's to be expected. I feel I learned a lot of things that i can use in the future.
This is probably the most difficult class I have ever taken. It's only been 5 weeks in summer school and I'm wishing that I had taken it during the semester year. Only because I am trying to still connect the dots, but I know that it won't be in time for when we take our final exam in a few days. However, I have learned A LOT! You're right..I'm a bit traumatized. BUT you are a fantastic teacher and I say do nothing different. I only wish I had more time to learn this in detail to be better prepped for the exam.
I enjoyed this class a lot and will most likely try to take more classes that are related to statistics. The thought of being able to calculate chances is very mind bottling.
If there was more material if this core course I believe that Professor Rachel could have tackled it with ease. The course grants a fist full of knowledge in a tear drop of time, yet he accomplishes it with the grace of a light wind. Meaning, he made the subject matter look and feel easy to learn even though it was a heavy load of material.
Anything you could ask for $1000 course. I like that Business 310 is geared to actual work that we are likely to see after college, and you teach us the material well in a fashion where we don't use silly symbols. Thanks Chris!
Definitely a great class that has taught me with useful skills. Thanks!
Really appreciate the mixture of teaching styles including constant repetition. For some people, it was too repetitive but it was perfect for me since I learn through association and repetition; especially towards difficult concepts. When a subject is too difficult then my brain normally tends to shut off but it was tolerable this session. Most likely because of the many help resources and explanations. Thanks you acknowledging that everyone is different.
I wish he just stops asking us about if we have any questions during exam. I am pretty sure that if any of us have a question, we'll ask. It is really hard to concentrate on the exam. And when I ask him a question, het ask me back a question. Obviously, I have a question, he doesn't need to repeat it like a parrot.
Prof. Rachal was an awesome stats prof!
Very well done class. I wish I could have taken it over the semester
He did a great job teaching and making sure that everyone understood the topics being taught. His tests are very difficult, but he makes sure we are ready for them when the time comes. I never thought statistics could be fun!
Always available for help. Really knows what he's talking about because he's been teaching it for years and had experience.
Very knowledgeable and always eager to help every student. Although this class is definitely hard, he made it much easier and did the best he could given the limited amount of time.

Loved the class, I found it extremely informative and may have to change my major.... maybe. I really like the in class examples, really had me thinking and into the stories then into the class after seeing how it connects. Great Class!
Thank you for a great class.
Professor Rachal seems like a really nice guy and he goes above and beyond to do everything he can to help his students succeed. Its refreshing to have a professor who wants nothing more than to see his students learn and do well, and I really appreciated this approach to the class. While stats is a difficult course with complicated subject matter because of the great steps Prof. Rachal takes to provide all the tools for his students to do well it was a great course.
Professor Rachal was a great teacher. I wish more teachers could teach like Chris. He broke down all of the material needed to learn in class into easily understandable concepts. His enthusiasm for teaching really shows and helps me the student, learn better because Chris provided many resources and ways of help that really catered to my learning style. I really appreciate the extra resources offered in laulima because without them I would not have learned as much as I have. I want to thank him for taking the time to create those supplemental documents because I know it takes some time to create those things. In addition he was always available to help via e-mail or when he was at the computer lab. I appreciate the help in the computer lab because he went above and beyond his teaching requirements and genuinely tried to help us get the best grade possible. Professor Rachal was the best teacher I've had so far because of many factors including his preparation, helpfulness, enthusiasm for teaching, fair but challenging grading, class structure, available resources, and knowledge of the course material. I would definitely take another course taught by Chris.
I thought this class was very well-taught. Professor Rachal did an excellent job relating the use of statistics back to our lives and majors. He genuinely cares about the students and wants to make sure that every student understands the material. He is very patient and kind. He also provides many helpful resources and extra credit opportunities to help students do their best in class. I enjoyed this class very much.
I think Chris Rachal with this statistics course put some spark back into us students and he made a point to make us believe how important our education is and this course could be life changing to every individual student. I couldnt imagine a better summer course for such a class. Thank you! feel lucky to have an experienced professional in the material we are learning as a teacher.
Chris, you are an excellent Professor. You are very conscientious of your students' needs and I am truly grateful that you are my Professor for this class. Regression is blowing my mind. Thank you so much.
enjoyed class surprisingly. I like that Chris provided several handouts and resources for me to get through the material, which can be very confusing.
It would be helpful if the laulima resource page was cleaned up and reorganized to make it easier to find what we need. Otherwise everything else is good.
Mr. Rachal was an excellent teacher for business statistics. His knowledge and expertise was invaluable in making the material understandable and meaningful.
Very passionate about the material! Comes through his teaching.
This professor is very dedicated to the subject matter and one of the best professors so far in my academic career. He teaches in a manner which you can actually apply to real life and understands the mind of the student. He was always very willing to help and loves statistics. He provides you with excellent resources and his class is challenging but not impossible. If you need help ask for it!!! Really appreciated his daily review!!!
He taught the material in a way that can be applied to the real world. Although the exams are hard and the problem sets are rather long, the material definitely sticks in your head.
On occasion, too much of lecture time was spent discussing how Chris is trying to make the material more understandable, such as elaboration on teaching methods, rather than the actual material. With this, I enjoyed when Chris would elaborate more on case studies, application, etc..
He genuinely cares that each student learns the material 100%. He gears his lectures to people that learn in various ways. I enjoyed the class very much. A class like statistics can be difficult, but Professor Rachal made it easy to learn. One of the BEST teachers at UH.
The class was very well structured. Professor Rachal really wanted us to do well and understand the material. He was always available and willing to provide aid which was awesome. Overall, he was not only the most professional but the coolest teacher I've taken a class with..

Great Professor!!! Explains everything really well and makes sure all his students understand the material before moving on.
Great teacher that is extremely passionate about teaching and helping students really learn the material. Great course overall.
He is a nice professor!
fair teacher
I was somewhat dreading taking this class because I'm not good/nor do I enjoy math. However, I was pleasantly surprised when I found out it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Props to Prof. Rachal for being an excellent stats teacher! Thank you!
great guy
I really enjoyed this class. I really didn't know what to expect, but if I have more time, I would like to take another stat class with Professor Rachal.
Just a comment that I would like to point out. Regarding posting the problem set assignments, please do not change it a couple days before it is due. There may be some students like me, who have a strict time schedule and try to do the assignment a little earlier. Though, for the past few problem sets, the instruction files were switched only a couple days before the assignment is due. This ultimately led to wasting time and effort in doing the wrong problems.
Professor Rachal was extremely helpful when I was faced with issues about the course material, and he was always available after class to answer my questions. Also, I like how he explains how things covered in class can be useful in the actual career. However the problem sets were very confusing at times and I felt that it would be better if the professor could explain briefly how to solve the problems, during lecture. Overall, I really enjoyed this course. Thank you!
very good teacher
I found the course material to be quit difficult, however professor Rachal put in much effort to make sure everyone understood the material. He goes way beyond any other professor I have had to provide extra help and material.
Professor Rachal is an exellent instructor and always willing to help students!
I really like how Professor Rachal always explains the material in details. I recommended that he slows down a bit when he speaks though. Overall, it was a great semester and I really learned a lot about how statistic is implemented in business. Thank you.
Chris Rachal is a great teacher, and taught one of the toughest classes. Not because the subject itself is hard, but the class has a common stigma that the class itself is hard. It's also a class in which the information that we are being taught is a different perspective from the norm. In that way, I believe Rachal is one of the best teachers out there, and I would take a class from him again any day
I think that Professor Rachal is a very good professor, and he constantly wants to make sure that the students understand the subject matter that he's teaching about. If a student doesn't understand something, he will ask them questions and try to help them understand.

Very good class. Professor was always willing to answer question or explain any problems we had. He gave us a lot of time for us to complete our homework and allowed us to work in groups.
It was fun. STATISTICS. That's saying something, I think.
The class was a bit slow in the beginning of the semester. However, Prof Rachal's teaching style became more helpful towards the middle to end of the semester because he constantly reviews the class. He is very understanding. The problem sets were pretty challenging but helpful in the learning process.
I think other students should know for the class that PH Stat requires administrator level privileges to run properly in Excel on Windows. Allowing macros to run is not enough in some circumstances. If a student does not have access to Excel on their own, it is much better for them to do their homework in the Shidler computer lab rather than in either of the libraries on campus as they are not configured properly to run PH Stat.
The materials of the course were interesting to learn about. However, I feel that we spent a lot of the time at the beginning on a little more basic items and the regression towards the end I feel was a little rushed. Other than that. Great class. =)
Professor Rachal was always prepared. His stories were interesting and I enjoyed listening to it. It was comforting for him to ask the class if we understood and asked us one-by-one if we understood. He takes the time to explain things and would keep explaining it until we understood it. He made statistics into an interesting and easy subject. to be honest, i was afraid of taking this class but after taking this class, i feel that statistics can be applied to not just business. i am changing my major to education but i believe i can take this class with me throughout my life. Professor Rachal always shows how much he cares about his students and gives us a "pep" talk and it seems as though he is my father. i enjoy when he looks up the jobs on monster.com because it makes me realize that what i'm learning can actually be applied. Professor Rachal has made learning stats fun and easy! I would suggest this class to ALL my business friends. I appreciate his teaching ways of ppt AND chalkboard. he is a VERY caring guy and it makes learning easier when a professor shows he cares about his students. thank you Professor Rachal for a great semester!
I like how you continue to do an overview in the beginning of class because this class involves building on top of previous concepts. I like how you teach by talking and utilizing the chalkboard before going into the PPT slides. I think it is a much better way to get the info across to others by having them see you work through the examples. I also like how the assignments intertwine with each other because you get to learn the material, go through the hw to see if you really understand the concepts and finally have the midterm/final.
Prof. Rachal is great, but I think he should do more homework assignments on working out certain problems and going over them in class before the big assignments.

You are a good professor for a some what difficult course. Keep up the good work. I also like how you show the stuff can relate to the real world.
I like how the class was structured. we had had a lot of tools at our disposal. I appreciated the teaching style, and the "swag" used while teaching. It is good that we were asked if we understood the material. I also liked that we were given time to assignments because my attention span was gone by the end of the day. Overall it is a difficult class but a good one.
Great teacher! Always willing to help and sincerely wants students to succeed
Seemed to enjoy teaching and always wanted to help his students whenever possible.
Rachal is a very good teacher. He takes the time to make sure everyone is caught up and knows what is going on. He also gives us a lot of help outside of class if we need it. Our Laulima page is full of resources that can assist in learning the material. There is kind of a lot of homework, but it is manageable. It is a challenging class, but he makes sure that everyone can pass and learn the stuff...
Overall, Professor Rachal is a great professor. He stays true to his syllabus and schedule, has tons of material available online, and offers practice exams and problem sets. The extra credit opportunities definitely helped and also allowed us to learn material at the same time. Also, great job on the short reviews done every day that cover everything we've learned thus far, it helps retain the information and prevent us from forgetting key concepts. The "run through" on the example problem done the 2nd to the last class really helped me with the applying part of everything we've learned. If possible, I think that doing breakdowns like that and going step by step through a problem really help with the overall understanding of the material, I highly encourage doing so in your future classes. Going through the class one by one and checking individually to make sure each student understands "where we're at" helped and is something that I don't see other professors doing. Keep it up, great job this semester.
Great teacher, went over material well and had many resources available to students
Professor Rachal really cares about his students, he has a great personality and shows that through his teaching style.
great teacher, helpful, will recommend to future students
Professor Rachal is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. He is also passionate about his field, and compassionate for his students. The work may require higher-level thinking, but Professor Rachal's teaching methods ensure that everyone who wants to understand, will understand. I highly recommend Professor Rachal's class to any and everyone who wants to learn statistics.
Professor Rachal was very helpful throughout the course. He responded to our emails quickly and provided extra help if needed.
I think it would be beneficial for more practice on how to solve problems in class on top of the theory that we learn. I would have preferred more time learning from him on how to solve problems practically so that I can apply them to my exams.
Very good teacher, went over material very clearly and easy to understand. One of the best classes I've ever had.
This class was really helpful; but, non-native student is little bit hard to understand when he explained example in the lecture.
Professor Rachal is a great instructor. He truly cares about his students and makes sure no one is falling behind. This class is also extremely organized, as all his lectures, handouts are on laulima from day 1. He is also very inspirational about students futures. I would take any class from Professor Rachal.
Proffesor Rachal is a great teacher. He has been doing this for a while and is very organized and sets his students up for successul. Will recemmend him to other students.
Professor Rachal is a great instructor & it's not hard to notice that he is passionate about statistics & his students' success.
I learned a lot. The professor enforces us to ask for help when needed.
Professor Rachal really knows his stuff and ensures that his student know it as well. He doesn't leave anyone behind and is willing to go over anything that we don't understand. From day one you really get the feeling that he doesn't just want to show up to class and lecture, but that he wants us to really get it. He shows this in his efforts to make class interactive. The course material is well prepared and ready for us through laulima. There isn't one thing that I would change about this course. I came in thinking I wasn't going to get it, but it turns out that I get it and I am doing well. Professor Rachal makes the difference. I have heard other students complaining about their BUS 310 professor in my other classes and thank my luck that I ended up in Professor Rachal's class cause he really cares and is willing to change his teaching styles to ensure that 95% of the class gets it. He even tries to work with the other 5% who aren't even trying, but Professor Rachal tries to assist them where he can, but if you don't come to class or turn in assignments there isn't much he can do to get you through. He rocks!!! I can't thank him enough for making my first semester in Shidler a great one. Keep up all the hard work Chris and thanks for caring about your students as more then ID numbers on your roster :)
I learned a lot from your lectures. Thank you very much.
Professor Rachal is an exceptional professor and an excellent teacher.
The class was fun and educational! Great Job
Content is a little difficult, but the professor is always willing to help
One of the best teachers I've ever had. He cares about the students, and he cares about them learning.
I would strongly recommend Professor Rachal to anyone who needs a stats class, because knows what he is doing, and you will really learn a lot in his class. Professor Rachal is also very helpful and his passion for teaching is evident in the way he conducts himself in class.
Thank you for your time and patience. It might help to consolidate all materials by chapter instead of having them separately (ex. a folder for notes, a folder for ppt, etc.)
Hard subject.
Really great professor who really proves that he cares about having students learn the material. Easy to ask questions and provides excellent assistance via resources, lectures, and personally. Great teaching style, other professors should adopt it.
Super cool guy, always happy and encouraging.
Need to stay on topic, often changing subject about how we can do well at work.
Chris really motivates you to understand the importance of statistics. Statistics is a tough course and he does a good job at explaining it. He makes you earn the grade and challenges you. The problem sets can be confusing, but it's only because statistics itself is not something easily understood. He is organized, prepared, has great communication skills, and he knows statistics in and out. He really cares about his students and wants us to succeed. I would recommend him to other students. His tests are tricky but if you get a good grade on it, you feel like you earned it.
This is not a glitch, overall, Professor Rachal is one of the most informative and helpful professors in UHM.
Great teacher! Professor Rachal knew what he was talking about, and was very well prepared for class. I like how he had almost everything we would need up on Laulima from the very first day of class. He was also helpful with homework, and I like how he let us work in groups because some of the homework was challenging individually, but when you're in a group it made it much easier. He is very good at answering questions in class, and is lectures are well organized. He doesn't go over something if we don't need to know it. Very good teacher! One of my favorite professors so far because of his good attitude, he is very knowledgable, well prepared, and very helpful. I was very pleased with this class.
Rachal is a helpful teacher and I'm so glad I took BUS 310 with him. Even though his class started at 430, I didn't mind it at all because he knows how to teach the material. He needs a raise!
Professor Rachal was extremely helpful and understanding. I really enjoyed this course, and I feel confident that I learned a lot. The only suggestion that I have would be a step by step class time help with the first few PhStats

Mr. Rachal made statistics more than just a math class where we're crunching numbers. He focused more on theories rather than doing the math. I took Statistics from another professor at Shidler, gave up and failed the course. I could not focus as the professor went slide by slide, reading off of the screen. Mr. Rachal was able to cater to all types of learner: visual, auditory, and hands on. I found his class to be extremely good. I have learned a lot. Right now I am earning a B. HE ROCKS!
Chris was an awesome teacher. He was able to break down complicated concepts to make it easy for his student to learn. In this class I learned concepts that I can apply to my other classes and future jobs as well. He truly works hard to have his students become the best statisticians that they can be.
On top of being an awesome teacher, he's also a cool dude.
This class really clarified statistics and not only how to calculate the information but how to interpret the information which I feel is lacking in other stats classes. I thoroughly enjoyed Professor Rachal's passion for and knowledge of the subject.
One of the best teachers that i have had. I wish that i had him during the regular semester so i could retain more of the things he taught me. He is very clear, fair with what is being assigned and does not lie about what he expects from us as students. One of the only teachers i have had that doesn't lie about whats going to be on the midterm/final. Homework and his points are fair. I enjoy how he repeats things, and tries to teach in a way that accommodates everyone's individual learning style. Keep it up professor Rachal, and thank you.
Very nice professor, in the same time, he treats every student in an amazing patient.
Prof. Rachal is always available and crazy about making sure all his students are onboard with the lectures. He tries his best at not leaving anyone behind. He understands things happen, so he works with you when it comes to absences, tardiness, or late assignments. Really nice guy! Great class, learned a lot.
Great teacher! He makes sure everyone follows what he is saying and he explains the material thoroughly.
Hes a great teacher. Learned a lot in his class, and he is very understanding and fair.
The professor seems very concerned for the success of his students and is constantly offering assistance. It is obvious that he wants his students to not only get a good grade, but to understand and appreciate the material. The only thing that I would change about the material is the wording of the instructions in the homework problem sets as it is often vague and makes the assignments more confusing than they need to be.
Great professor. Is fair in what he tests on. Always tries to incorporate real life situations and students' majors into lectures.
None
Great teacher! Very helpful! Problem sets were a bit lengthy and difficult :(

Wonderful professor!! Willing to recap on topics that are not so easy to understand and willing to go the extra mile to ensure his students are grasping the concepts and succeed in class and life.
really enjoyed the class actually--made things easy to understand for me (someone who knows nothing about stats)
Best statistics professor in the college of business! He was understanding of how students learn differently especially when it deals with statistics and math. Very organized and open-minded to the course of statistics! As long as students were able to support their answers with reasonable explanations, which is a good practice for reality. Used many real-life applications in class to help students make the transition from book to the test to reality.
I really like his class a lot. I'm not a fan of statistics but he explains the material very well and always encourages us to speak up if we had any confusion/questions, and tries to have everyone with the same degree of understating the material for his class.
Very helpful and patient. Made statistics a lot easier to understand. Highly recommended to fellow students
Professor Rachal truly made me interested in Statistics. I had troubles with some of the chapters, and he clarified everything in 15 minutes. He is very passionate about what he teaches, and also cares about whether his students are doing well in class. I appreciate that he thinks that no one should be left behind, and tries to explain concepts again and again, willingly, if some students are having trouble with it. I really like his teaching style; it's very refreshing. Statistics was actually fun because of Professor Rachal's teaching style, it made me want to major in statistics as well!
Very animated and a nice person
great course that i can use in my future everyday life.
Great instructor, knows what he's talking about, breaks it down to make it really easy to understand the material.
I like the structure of this class; the Problem Sets are designed for students to review lecture material again and apply it so that the knowledge can be instilled in our minds. I appreciate Chris' kindness and friendliness to his students. However, the textbook needs to go...it is confusing and difficult to read.
He is a really good professor I love this professor.
Really helped the whole class understand the material. Genuinely cares about helping his students.
GOOD JOB!
Very awesome teacher and he excels at what he does. He is very understanding and helpful and I really enjoyed his class. If he isn't tenured, he should be.
Even though I understood the material well for the most part, it's very admirable of you to keep going back to certain concepts to make sure that as much people as possible get it. Thanks for making statistics enjoyable and applicable.
Great Professor He teaches us what we need to know and explains it in ways we understand if some in the class are having a hard time he breaks it down again He offers lots of help to students and is available during office hours. I can't believe how much I learned in this class!
Good Teacher, dose a very good job at explaining the theory behind statistics and then tests us on how to apply the theory into practice with the problem sets. While the tests make sure you understand how to interpret the data. He is very concerned that his students understand the material and will setup meetings and stay after class to make sure every one of his students understands the material.
fantastic teacher! which makes the class enjoyable and understandable
This was a solid class! Mr. Rachal has a great understanding of the material and can assist with any problems that might occur. There is a nice atmosphere in the classroom that Mr. Rachal establishes with a cool, calm, and collective teaching approach. I enjoyed the class and how it was presented.
