22. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
Do more engaging fun activity during her lectures for most chapters.
Lecture and power points felt too rushed, didn't have enough time to write down all notes.
I believe slowing down on the sides in a definite critique however, everything else was great. I am glad tht she lets us interact in class activities and gives us our groups ahead of time so we can get closer with them.
Dr Le was a great teacher to have. The only suggestion would be to slow a bit down during her lectures. She tend to speak really fast and in depth through certain times of her lectures.
none
It would help if you went slower during the lectures. Other than that, I really enjoyed this class
I think it would be more helpful if she slowed down a bit when talking about things that aren't on the powerpoint. It was a bit too fast and I felt that I missed a lot of the information that was important. The exams were pretty challenging with the short answers so maybe it would be better if she shortened the responses to 2 instead of 3.
- Take out short-answer on exams - more lenient on grading -
None
She talks a little too fast, hard to keep up with jotting down notes
They were great
Slow down, and if you are going to rush through the slide, if you could have posted the slides with the notes to make it easier on us.
Just to talk a little bit slower as we are taking notes.
The paper should have been mentioned more in class rather than only mentioning it a week or two before it is due so that we could have the opportunity to work on it throughout the semester when the information about different topics are still fresh in our brains
Dr. Le's teaching methods were all great, I liked the fact that she included a lot of videos into her lectures which helped aid her lectures into class.
not have a cumulative test at the end of the semester.
I feel that Professor Le was too strict with her grading. I put a lot of effort into my work for a grade much lower than I had anticipated. I feel she needs to make it known what EXACTLY she is looking for. Maybe provide examples from previous students or loosen her reigns a little.
I wish exams were handed back so we could at least see what we did wrong. I know she wanted us to come to her office so she could discuss our exam with us, but I always worked during her office hours and just didnâ??t find another good time. Thatâ??s not a good excuse, but I feel it is the case for many students. So it would be beneficial to have our exams handed back in class with comments on them so we know how we did, then they could be collected after and we could arrange to further discuss with her if needed. The pacing of the material was good and I know Dr. Le had to go through things pretty quickly so everything would be covered, but I feel like she did go through lectures fast. It was hard to take notes on everything. I appreciate having access to the lecture slides, but even they didnâ??t contain all the information (more like talking points) so even though I didnâ??t miss a class, I still feel like I didnâ??t get EVERYTHING. I wish she talked more about the individual paper and group project at the beginning of the semester so we would be thinking about it more. Also when we formed groups, it wouldâ??ve been good to know these were the groups we would work with for the project, because then maybe we wouldâ??ve chose more wisely, haha.
I like Thao Le's teaching style and methods so much that I am taking another class with her next semester.
I would not change anything about this prof, except perhaps her harshness in grading. She is a tough judge! (Encouraging to students, but gives me anxiety that I won't get an A!)
23. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
helpful and very informative with every chapter she lectured on in class.
One of the best teachers i have had at Manoa
She is a great, dedicated, and persevering professor. Enjoyed her class and teaching concepts on how to involve the class and keep them engaged/relate to current and past experiences.
a great teacher
Great class!
Great professor!
She knows the content very well and was able to explain in further detail about topics. She spoke very fluently and seemed that it was something she was really interested in which was good for me as a student because I was able to learn and understand.
she is a very excellent professor teaching the adolescence class, but her exams are very challenging and she grades harsh on her short-answer problems on the exams.
she is a absolutely wonderful instructor. She displays keen knowledge in this subject. She also integrates lessons and group activities and discussion in which make the class very interesting. She goes beyond the normal lecture class and provides students with directional and goal based assignments that engage the students. I believe she does a wonderful job in ensuring that her students fully understand the content of the course and she is always willing to clarify or help students when needed. Overall, I would definitely recommend Dr. Thao Le to others
I learned a lot from Prof. Le's class. Not just on the subject but she helped us learn about ourselves and how we can apply the terms to our lives. Very knowledgeable & open minded
Good teacher, sometimes gave us too long to go over group questions.
she is very knowledgeable in the subject. Gave great insight, very organized and very fast at responding.
A wonderful teacher who has a lot of knowledge for this material and I can tell that she enjoys it, I love the activities provided because it allowed me to understand each topic more clear.
The instructor was very well informed in class and was able to answer majority of the questions students had.
Nice, caring professor who enjoyed teaching her lectures and her students. Seemed very passionate about her class and worked outside of school, traveling to different countries to help other kids in need.
she is a great teacher who gets her students involved during class through activities and discussions
She knows the content well and makes lecture fun.
I really enjoyed having Dr. Le as an instructor. She is kind and very approachable. At the start of the semester, she said she wanted to form a sort of community within the class and I think she did a good job at it. I donâ??t get a lot of opportunities to build relationships with classmates, and since the field of FAMR really revolves around people, I think it was good that we did get to work with our peers so often. Even though forming groups was a little exclusive since we mainly only talked with people in our groups, we at least got to get pretty close to those people. She utilized relevant video clips in some of her lectures, which made things a lot more interesting.
Excellent! She there to help and answer questions and makes available office times to look over your exams. She knows her material and the group activities make the class better because we communicate with one another.
Very good Prof. I would recommend to anyone taking FamR. I wish she taught more classes than just 333 and 491

27. My overall evaluation of this course is...
Loved it
It was a challenging class that I never would expected it to be, but it was also fun and knowledgeable to learn that this class had me express my personal experiences and relate it to my classmates as well as the topics discussed in class. It felt like a in class therapy session that brought out the positive/good in me and not be afraid or ashamed of myself.
i love this class I learned a lot. The information was a lot in a small period but I got the jist of it and loved it
I really enjoyed the course; I would recommend it to my friends
Fair
It is very interesting and I learned a lot. I could also relate to the topics covered in class which was very useful and helpful.
This course is a very interesting course. It reminds me of a science course that I was taking as if i was majoring in biology. It could be less strict on grading.
it is a wonderful course and i would highly recommended it!
Learned a lot!!
awesome
I would recommend it to others.
A fun course to take, I learned a lot about myself through the course and I enjoyed learning new facts.
The course was very fun and informative.
Interesting class to take, learned a lot about adolescence and children. I liked the topic of this class so it benefited me in a lot of ways where I learned a lot of new things that I never knew about before.
this was a good class and i would recommend it to a friend
Good course! I learned a lot. And since weâ??re all young adults, it was very relevant and maybe reflective for all of us (me, anyway). Exams were challenging, but fairâ??a good measure of what we learned, for the most part. Workload was good. The individual paper was a great assignment to do because we got to apply things from class to our lives and also got practice in some research. The group project where we had to create a program to address a teen issue was also an awesome project to do. At first it really stressed me out because it actually had to address and solve real-life problems, but because of that, it was a really good thing to do. I learned a lot from it and had fun in the process.
It's a great course. I would recommend it to other students. The teacher explains topics and issues clearly so we can understand it.
Im so glad I took it
28. Other comments:
I would like to see less short-answer on the exams in the future if I took a class with her again.
Nonetheless, I enjoyed this course.
:) Happy I took this course.

25. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
I think that the jeopardy games could have been more organized, and the expectations for the group presentation could have been announced more thoroughly.
Organization of information on slides for lecture seemed confusing and lacked order at times.
The only thing that I would suggest improving is the formation of the groups. I felt that forming groups on the first day of school based on the area of my seating arrangement was not the greatest idea. Perhaps, have students pick out a number to get placed into groups. I feel this way because on attending my first class, I had no choice but arriving late and being placed in the back. Not to say that I'm not completely happy with my group, but I would have preferred to have been seated in the front.
We had to select our groups in the beginning of the course, if we could get to know our classmates rather than picking those who sat around us, would help.
Maybe a better way of helping out students be more prepared and a class review session of maybe more of what might be on tests.
Maybe the teacher could have everything a little more organized!
Thao Le teaching style was really interesting. She has so much experience in the field. She makes things reverent to us.
Instructions for assignments need to be rewritten. Grading rubrics were clear. Instructions were not. For the group project and essay.
I like the videos and interactions
I think the review sessions were not effective and she could maybe try different review games which can help students do better on exams.
It was a bit difficult to keep up with the notes because there was little time given to write everything down.

26. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
She comes to class prepared with the material she is going over and her study guides come in very handy. She seems very passionate about what she teaches and the course overall.
Very knowledgable about the course and is also very easy to talk to.
She is a very knowledgable professor with a passion to help future educators and social workers. Especially when dealing with adolescents and young adults.
She is a great professor and very knowledgeable.
she is a great educator and overall an amazing person.
Overall a good teacher and is well prepared and kind of is a tuff teacher. She knows her stuff but It's hard to keep up with her at times because she kind of zooms through. Other than that she is a great professor and a nice one too.
She is a wonderful teacher who is very knowledgable. I would definitely take another course taught by her.
She didn't seem to know the material and referred to reading off the slides most of the time.
Great instructor. Very knowledgeable in this area of study. Very caring of her students and with the people she works with.
I really disliked Thao Le as a professor. She was vey boring and was not enthusiastic whatsoever. This course had potential to be interesting but Thao Le's teaching style did not work. There was a lot of information on each slide and not enough time to write it all down.
She really wants you to learn what she was teaching the class
Really enthusiastic and always made class fun
that she really made sure we understood the information she taught us by showing us videos and giving the class discussion questions every class so she knew we understood the information.
Dr. Le is very personable and easy to approach she is tough and tender which helped me to hold myself responsible in class
Good Professor! Really loves the subject on family resources and helping adolescents to better themeselves.
Knowledgeable in her field

30. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I enjoyed her guess speaker. She was very easy to listen to and I really liked her teaching style.
Examples were given for nearly every concept of the course which was very helpful when studying and taking midterms and final.
How she uses old school teaching techniques with new school teaching techniques. Very knowledgeable and able to help us understand not just the objective of the lecture but to gain a better idea on the concepts of the lesson.
I liked the group assignment the best, mainly because it was one of the hardest things I ever had to do in college. Working with a group is not easy, and at first I disliked the idea because usually one person ends up doing most of the work. In the end my group came through and delivered a great presentation. The process of working with my group members taught me a lot. In the professional world, we will not always work with people who are easy to work with, but there still is a way to make things work.
Everything, it really applied critical thinking.
The involvement within each lecture class.
I liked that we went over family and parenting styles because that gives me a heads up on which parenting styles are effective in helping out children and which are not good.
I liked the videos, projects and activities.
I loved learning about myself through this class.
Lots of videos and other content that made the class more than a lecture type class.
This course was not very interesting to me.
I liked the group activities. It reinforced what we were learning.
I like how she puts the slideshows online
Everything
I liked the group presentations because I got a better understanding of the topics which we already went over in class and I learned more about other important issues adolescents face.
it was relatable
The project where we had to present and create a program
The class interaction

Thank you for a great semester.
Good class to learn about the age group that you are currently in.
Learned a lot about myself through this class.
Test are hard but it makes us really thing about what we learn and are able to make us it in a situation.
Improvements need to be made in all aspects of this course.

I learned to forgive.
I loved the content- all very interesting and useful in my life.
The wholesome approach Thao Le took to delivering the content. There was a balance between discussion, lecture, practice, and reflection. Also, mindfulness was viewed from different aspects: academic, philosophical, psychological, personal, chemical, etc. The multiple approaches made for better insight and a better understanding.
Giving Scientific credibility to the benefits of Mindfulness as shown through Neuroscience and physiological studies. It brought many ideas that I had (in the back of my mind) to the front, things I may have intuitively known but never really looked at closely.

24. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
See above. I also learned stress management techniques.
Definitely the constant practice of meditation, and learning the benefits of mindfulness to instill a dedication and the investment in continuing or honing the practice.
The discussion and reflection were most valuable to me. Most courses have some sort of lecture but one of the things that set this course apart from others was the challenge to apply what we learned to our lives and then reflect and discuss. Applying what we learned to our lives helps us make lasting connections, and reflections help us grow.
the coverage of the Abhidharma and Nagarjunas "middle way"
25. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Nothing.
I can't think of anything at the moment. I was always pleased with things.
In my case (probably not for all students) I had a basis in Buddhist studies and practices, so we seemed somewhat slow to look at abandoning concepts based in the "self". I do realize that for someone that has not looked at these concepts before it can be a slow process, but I feel for someone that realizes the damages ego can cause we could have gone deeper.

Nothing. It was a very relaxed atmosphere with focus on academics.
I really enjoyed the class..no suggestions.
Maybe a little more direction with the midterm. The grading rubric was helpful but maybe a chance to resubmit with changes for a few points back?
I (once again) would emphasize the self as the source of most of our troubles, and seeing things through a more engaged perspective (seeing things as a collective not individual)helps break away from the "self" a caveat; this is a part of my personal belief system maybe is not for everyone.
34. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Excellent instructor!
She's great! I love her laugh, it reminds me to have the ease to laugh.
Thao Le is very knowledgeable and clearly cares about the subject matter and her students. This is evident in the way she conducts class. I hope she continues to teach at UH Manoa. She is an asset to the teaching staff.

The check ins. Very nice.
I liked the philosophical readings such as those from Thich Nhan Hanh and the Dalai Lama.
Meditation Mindful and introduction to other types. Buddhist philosophy
39. My overall evaluation of this course is...
I highly recommend this course to anyone with stress.
Excellent, and exactly what I needed in my life to cope with the craziness. If the university is concerned with creating good citizens, Skillful Living should be a requirement.
For a pilot course, I think it went extremely well. The expectations weren't ridiculous. Some readings were dense, but there was always discussions to help. This is a great course and I would recommend it to others. Although, I do not think this course is for everyone. A lot of the progress a person makes in this course is dependent on their consistent, individual work. The only way they are held accountable for it is by writing a reflection. If people only do part of the work and then write a reflection, they will not see real results.
I would highly recommend this course to anyone, but especially to someone that desired to take up and type of meditation practice. Gives great insights into oneself and the workings of the mind
40. Other comments:
Dr. Thao is the best!
I would recommend that this course be cross listed with Religion because even though it is not specific to one school of Buddhism, much of what is taught goes to the original teachings of The Buddha

I would like study sessions from the TA. She wasn't really helpful in letting us prepare for test the TA
The groups were fine, but for group projects you should let the students pick their team because it would be easier for friends to meet outside of class then strangers.
There's a lot of information in the lectures. Sometimes you go through the slides a little too quickly
your methods right now are awesome! keep it up.
More office hours
Less work and more extra credit
I think the course is well composed and that Thao Le's teaching style is effective.
26. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
I loved her class!
I love this class. our professor knew her material very well and made me want to learn more. She is very helpful and easy to talk to. one of my favorite classes this semester.
Great!
okay teacher
She is more than competent and enthusiastic about the course material. She was open, friendly, and approachable from day one. She presented the material in an unbiased and professional way while still making it understandable and non-intimidating.
27. Any comments about the TA?
She should have made new study guides and not be lazy and send us old ones. Also she should have made study sessions for the exam.
She was really nice and proactive. She made students feel comfortable enough to talk to her in person/email

17. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
She put up a study guide for the exams.
EVERYTHING IN THIS CLASS WAS HELPFUL AND VALUABLE. I have related every concept in this class to my own experiences and the experiences of the people around me. I have a better understanding of my adolescence and of the way I am today.
I like that the way Professor Le included videos, class discussions and in- class activities. It kept me awake and motivated to learn in that sort of environment.
I enjoyed learning about the different concepts, especially Sternberg's Theory of Love, about Autonomy, and Erikson's stages of Identity.
I liked how the power points were available online as well. Even though we went through a fast pace during the lectures, we were able to go on laulima and refer back to the lectures if necessary.
Lectures had valuable information
This course helped me understand my adolescent years. it explained in depth why things happen the way they do when we are teens. All the information I learned in this class will be useful to everybody especially to parents who are raising soon-to-be adolescents.
18. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
I had a hard time understanding her during class, and when I would ask for help she still had a hard time answering my question. Even though she gave us a study guide she only gave it to us the day before.
EVERYTHING. Because of this class, I have a greater interest in adolescence and would love to pursue a career working with adolescents. I took the greatest interest in attachment styles and the cognitive development: prefrontal cortex, amygdala, etc.
I would have liked to have a study guide throughout all the test rather than just a review game. I like having a set guide knowing that I know all the info needed.
The guidelines for the paper were unclear and I would have appreciated talking more about the paper in detail during class time. I would have also liked to have class time to work on our group project.
Having the class at 4:30PM was very unhelpful because I am just burnt out and tired from my previous classes. By then, I just want to take my daily nap. Also, you knew a lot of information about California statistics and rules. Since your living in Hawai'i now, I think you should freshen up on the Hawai'i rules, laws, and stats. Some information you mentioned in class is kind of off.
The guest lectures really did not help very much. Seemed like it was a waste of a class

earlier times for study guide and explain some of her lectures a bit more.
I personally did not care for a study guide but I saw that other students benefited greatly from having a study guide before an exam.
I enjoyed the extra credit opportunities, but would like to have more opportunities for extra credit. The first test was also pretty tough.
Like I mentioned, please learn more about the Hawai'i juvenile laws and school courses available. You have so much knowledge about California, but what about Hawai'i? For example, drivers ed here on the islands is not what you thought. We don't just sit in the classroom all day long and learn about driving through a book. We actually learn this stuff at the beginning, then go out and drive with our instructor. We also cannot graduate until we have accumulated so many hours of driving with our instructor and a licensed adult.
Give out the rubrics more than 2 weeks ahead that way we do not have to wait to know what is expected out of us
29. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Thao Le is overall a decent professor, she is a nice person it was just I had a hard time understanding some of the things that she taught me and some of her grading rubrics were a bit challenging but still manageable.
She is extremely knowledgable of adolescence and emerging adulthood. She is very approachable and helpful. Ultimately she helped me with narrowing down my interests and focus on what I want to do as a career.
she is a fun and engaging teacher.
Dr. Le is very knowledgeable and has high expectations for her students.
she is a very nice, humble lady who does her best to fulfill the needs of us students. Although, she should freshen up about the Hawai'i lifestyle and UHM school system.

33. Other comments:
I liked the fact that for the second exam, you gave us a study guide. I think that is why I did better for this exam because I knew what to study and what not. The first one was a trip because I was trying to cram everything in my head, without knowing what will be on the exam. So for future references, provide a study guide for your classes, unless you don't like them :P (just kidding).

14. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I thought the guest speaker she brought in was a great asset to her criteria. I wish she gave the speaker a week or so to really get more personal sources about the issues of suicide and coping. Thao Le was a great speaker and there was never a boring day for me. I was always awake and interested.
The Videos presented were carefully chosen and left a huge impression. I appreciated the lectures being available online.
The videos
The most valuable to this course was being provided a study guide from Ashley (T.A) that was not given to other students from her previous semesters. What also helped was the power points/lectures that are posted in Laulima as a way to help me prepare better for the exams. The movies provided in the lectures was well interesting and very much related to the topic of class discussion. I do wish we could have had more time to watched the entire video.
I found that in each of the lectures I was able to find some importance and interest in the topic.
The powerpoints
This course gave a good overview of adolescence and early adulthood.
When you can relate to what she's talking about, it can be quite interesting. Talking about family and understanding different roles each member holds in a household (siblings & order) etc
The most valuable aspect of the course was the presentation slides that accompanied Professor Le's lectures. In the powerpoint slides, she showed related videos to help explain concepts. The guest speakers also was valuable to the course.
I think that learning about how to work well in a group was the most valuable aspect of the class. The group project really helps with gaining the skills in working with others.
the powerpoints on laulima and the study guides and the TA
Being in groups, it helped making learning easier and fun
All the topics covered by the instructor.
Adolescence experiences that affect us in adulthood.
There was much relevance to my life and life in general. I could apply concepts and understand the process I went through and endured during adolescence. The theories made sense and I could apply bits and pieces to my experiences. By taking this course I could understand many phenomenons that occur during adolescence that I never understood before. I was able to relate to things covered in class and understand processes and identify with many things mentioned throughout the course. It helped me with a lot of confusion issues and I am grateful I took this course.
Group work
Personal and work related experiences the teacher had and talked to the class about.
How the professor used examples that students could relate to making the material very understanding.
Applying what I learned to real world situations
Understanding how parenting skills affect the outcome of your childrens' behaviors and attitudes towards certain things.
I really valued all the statistics and videos we saw. Usually, those things make everything a little more real and relatable and help us learn better.
powerpoints and guest lectures were helphful
The professor! She is great :) The group design of the class was also fun too.
I enjoyed the class participation activities because they forced us to pay more attention to the lectures and get involved.
everything
I loved the fact that Professor Le was active with her students. Always engaging in some sort of verbal or physical activity. The only way to really understand child development is through your own experiences. With each concept to understand, she made it a little easier to learn by applying the concept through our own experiences, while also sharing our experiences with classmates (only if you wanted to). The study guides were very helpful, as well as the TA's assistance.
I felt this class was valuable because it not only taught you the basic foundations but it also made you think and correlate what you learned to the world around you.
15. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
I wish she talked about the projects more and the paper. I would have liked maybe 10-15 minutes of knowing what she wanted out of these projects. I think it works good if you have a short intro and then when it comes closer to the date it is due the paper is discussed again in further detail about what you expect from these papers, the format, how it will be graded, etc.
Nothing.
lectures
What was least valuable during the semester is that it would help to have a quick review before each exam. Although we did have one review I felt that we were in a rush with the remaining 15 minutes of class. I felt that we should have been given more time to ask questions and review. Also, I felt that the class should be more engaging with group activities rather than lecture. It does not necessarily motivate students to learn.
Exams.
Understanding Piaget and all theory founders are good to know, but over studdied
I thought that the paper was least valuable to the course.
the tempo of the class, a bit fast.
nothing
Activities including holding up papers to answer the questions needed to be improved.

she does a great job! I have nothing other than what I said above.
I wish that time was allotted for in-class group time. I found it difficult to meet with my group when they were available and I was not. With so many people in a group, I felt that it was hard to find a common time to meet.
none.
-add more activities -offer help to students and ask at the end of the class if there are any questions
The only thing that i found could have improvement would be getting test back. Making it easier for us to see not only our test scores but the questions that we got wrong could help with studying for the final that is cumulative.
Power point slides or teachers opinion, pick one not both. Makes taking notes for tests as a student more difficult.
II liked having the powerpoints available and the study guides. They were helpful. I liked the times when we worked with partners. I didn't like it as much when we worked in groups because harder to get that many people to focus on one thing. Would be nice to have a little more instruction on creative projects, they were a little confusing at first as to what we should do.
Slides were very vague, study guide was not helpful for tests, unorganized activities, tests were pretty hard.
One improvement could be to allow some class days to work on the group presentation. Another improvement could be to have more time to review for exams during class.
Sometimes she speeds up while lecturing and it's difficult to keep up.
slow down on giving information because it was hard to keep up. Don't do more than one topic in a lecture, it is harder to digest.
I think Le's teaching style and methods are pretty good and helpful as it is :)

I enjoyed her class. She is very knowledgeable. She also is also what I envision as a true "professor". The way she dresses, talks and her style of teaching is fun, engaging, and professional.
More interactive
Teacher would speak quicly at times, and this happened frequently. I would say slow down, cover material that is most important than work from there. With the presentation focus on content more than the smaller things, such as timing, transitions, etc.
I think this course is perfect the way it is. I really liked this course!

NOTHING. :) You're doing a great job professor!
I really liked how she gave us the option after exam one to improve our grade after listening to the guest speakers and giving them feedback or dropping one exam and doubling the final. It shows she is very understanding and wants her students to succeed. Some people need to be pushed in the beginning to do well in the end and I feel that helped me out.
NONE! class was great. I enjoyed the activites and lessons.
none needed
Maybe having clearer study guides, or outlines of major ideas to focus on for exams
I had some problems with my group meeting outside of class, so I think that it would have helped if we had more time to meet during class. Also, it would have helped if we had more test prep (reviewed) in class before each exam.
speak a little slower. sometimes it was hard to catch what was said during lecture. picking own groups for the project would have helped. was hard to get together with random people i knew nothing about because we all worked or had sports. make a study guide for the exams because there was so much to study
I think if anything, really emphasizing that time is an issue when doing the Group presentation. I think groups had the impression that the information about their topic was more important than the actual organization part of the presentation.
-speak slower, and go through slides slower -speak a little louder, or use a microphone -put a little more information on the powerpoint slides so that it easier to follow and understand
I cant think of any, i feel she used many different teaching styles to fulfill the different learning styles.
26. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Solid teacher and I really like how she grouped us up. That helped me make new friends and made us hold one another more accountable. It was also more interactive because of that.
She is very knowledgable and enthusiastic about the subject.
Great teacher
My overall evaluation of this class was a good experience. For students who do take this course,he/she will learn a lot but for those who decide to take this class for fun I am not sure if he/she will enjoy sitting in class listening to a lecture the entire time.
...that she has done a great job at not only teaching us the material but sparking a greater interest in adolescents and as a secondary education major i feel like i now know more about what goes on in their head then i did going in. Very Good Teacher!
good at getting student involved in discussions

She is a great teacher and knows the information. I thought she engaged the class pretty well, they were kind of hard to engage though. I felt like I learned from this course.
not impressed or favored. She means well, but is very unorganized or at least comes off that way.
very enthusiastic about the subject. I liked how she provided lots of visual aids and videos to accompany what is being taught.
very good! even those taught on a fast pace, she knew what she was teaching and was very helpful.
Shes a great teacher that knows what she's doing and teaching. I could tell that she really wants the students to do their best in the class and really get something out of it.
She is very knowledgeable of the course content. She creates stimulating projects, papers, group assignments, and exams that challenge the students to demonstrate their understanding of the materials. Professor Le is also very helpful. Overall, she is a excellent Professor!
Very good teacher, wished you taught more courses.
First time taking he class, if she teaches any other course than FAMR 333. Overall, she is a great professor.
great! Would definitely recommend her!
Good teacher
Good teacher, just slow down when speaking, and focus on bigger picture, because the class is so big. If the class was smaller than focus could be narrowed.
Great awesome down to earth kind sweet teacher! Highly recommended
She is an excellent teacher! Nothing is really vague about her lectures. Very straight forward and understanding.
Thao is very enthusiastic and knows her material. It is always more enjoyable and easier to learn from a teach like that.

Thao Le is a great professor. Her class was very interesting and I learned a lot throughout the semester.
good professor
Great teacher. I enjoyed her class each and every class. Very encouraging and engaging with students. Always wants to improve herself. Whether it's reading the eCafe reviews or talking to students after class and asking how she can make learning easier. She genuinely cares about her students and wants everyone to succeed, but you have to be willing to ask for help.
Professor Le is a great teacher and very knowledgeable. However, she goes through lectures a little to quickly for me to keep up.

It's an good class if you want to expand your understanding on the subject.
very interesting and easy because it was relatable.
Great. This course was very interesting and i felt applied alot to me.
The course content was stimulating and the course work challenged me to show my understanding of the material. The various group assignments and paper assignment also allowed students to share their personal experiences (which was fun and creative)

GREAT! i learned so much about my "old" self. This was a great class!
i would highly recommend others to take it.
I liked it a lot, I wish there were maybe a couple little assignments that we could do to buffer our grades though.
I enjoyed the class and would recommend it to others.
a bit difficult with the group project and a final paper because work would get in the way of meeting up but it was a good course.
After the first exam my grade wasn't the greatest and that's when I realized that I had to be more engaged in the class. After the first exam, I went to class each day. I loved the fact that after each class, I always had some sort of information to share with my boyfriend, friends, or family. Actually going to class and listening in one thing, but it's another when you remember the information and actually share it with others. The topics were very interesting, probably because the class is "Adolescent & Emerging Adulthood" and in college, we are Emerging adults, so that's why it pertains to the majority of college students!
I feel that it is a great course that gives you the foundations you need in this field and it makes you correlate it.

18. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the course?
It was good to learn about teen problem but also protective factors in many topics.
The text book was clear and easy to use while still providing an abundance of information
We learned a lot information, especially statistics. Professor knew her information very well.
I really enjoy the fact that I can relate it to my own experience, especially understanding the reasons things happened the way they did during my adolescence.
theories to raise children
I found the videos relating to the topics covered in class the most helpful.
i learned about adolescence and it was interesting to learn more about a phase in my life that i have already lived out. I could relate to the teachings since they were topics that i have experienced myself.
I found that i was able to relate this course and the thing we learned with my past and actual life experiences
Everything; the issues and development of teens through early adulthood. Very insightful class :D
The course content, and what I learned about adolescent and early adulthood development, etc. Providing examples that make it relevant was helpful. OH!! The videos we watched were all very informational, and encouraged me, personally, to become more interested in the subject matter.
THE PAPER WAS HELPFUL, I WAS ABLE TO MAKE CONNECTIONS TO MY LIFE WITH CONCEPTS DISCUSSED IN LECTURE AND IN THE TEXT.
How adolescents develop and the problems that they are facing during their puberty.
the students
life lessons about adolescence
N/A
video clips pertaining to what we were covering in class
It helped to explain the reasons why I did some things in my adolescence
The powerpoints were easy to follow. Interesting subjects
When she had her slides she just had her main points and she then elaborated on them. This made us take good notes and soak in the material better.
rely on self to learn
i enjoyed being able to relate the material in the class to my own life
Lectures were on point and related to be book material
Good explanations and videos
Guest speakers
i can not think of anything particularly valuable about the course itself. lectures were only interesting half the time. group or paired off discussions were not specific or structured enough (we didnt have enough time to discuss or partners were confused). videos shown were good but sometimes left us with unanswered questions. coming to class was valuable to pass the class.
This course was helpful for life lessons that we can take out to the real world.
Ms. Thao Le was an awesome teacher. What I really enjoyed was that she would give examples of real life situations which made it easier to understand and memorize the information.
19. What did you find least valuable and helpful about the course?
The instructor went very quickly through slides. I eventually stopped taking notes because I had too many gaps and took notes from the text later.
Sometimes hard to communicate with professor.
I didn't find anything really not valuable and helpful about this class. I felt that I could apply the many lessons I have learned from class.
I found that the fact that we were not able to access the power points on laulima made it difficult. I found myself having to worry about writing down all the notes during class, rather than listening to the lecture.
some sections were a little boring but what class doesnt have that?
I found the amount of work load given at once too much to truly understand
Nothing. All were very useful information needed to know.
A couple of the speakers that came in, I think, were least helpful. I can't remember which one specifically, but I just feel like the speaker didn't interest me. She was a little confusing I think that's why.
THE FIRST EXAM DR. LE DID NOT PROVIDE A STUDY GUIDE WHICH MADE ME FEEL UNPREPARED FOR THE EXAM WHICH I DID POORLY ON. (SO DID MAJORITY OF THE CLASS AS WELL) FOR THE GROUP PROJECT, THE GROUP SIZES WERE SO LARGE THAT IT MADE IT DIFFICULT FOR EVERYONE TO MEET UP/KEEP IN CONTACT.
all the materials are important for me.
the teachers lack of communication skills, she wouldn't compromise anything that we talked about. she thought that the course should be number one on our priority list. her TA did NOTHING! it was a pathetic course!
N/A
The powerpoints were not posted, go thru the information too fast sometimes, TA was no real help, there was no study guide to help us study, it was just a paper of the titles of all the slides from the power points.
Although many of the students wanted a study guide I believe it was not necessary. The study guide for the second exam covered basically everything you taught in class. The grades were very fair. Since this is a 300+ level class I believe it was fair that you did not give us a study guide for the first exam. I really encourage you to keep it that way. I expect study guides for 100+ level classes...
Nothing.
no powerpoints on laulima
everything was valuable and helpful
Nothing, i think everything was very helpful
no study guide
I personally didn't like the group activities. I rather just learned individually.
- not having access to slides on laulima. trying to write every single thing down is frustrating and also distracting so i don't listen to the lecture. especially when the second exam had so many questions dealing with exact percentages. - group presentation was not a good project when nine+ people are assigned to one group. this makes scheduling and preperation extremely difficult. also, a 20 minute presentation means that each person gets only 2 minutes to speak. this is even less if there is a video, skit, q&a, etc. it is difficult to display ones understanding of a topic in so little time.
Every thing in the class was helpful and valuable for the course

32. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
more activities to keep students involved.
Slow down with presentation. Not providing power points on laulima is a great way to encourage students to read the text and come to class, but a study guide would be good for getting a better understanding of the material. It's not cheating, it's just being specific.
Make instructions for assignments more clear.
-Probably going on a slow pace when teaching -Having various activities which are hands-on and relatable to the matter at hand -Probably having quick quizzes so that students are on track of the material -Having a study guide
Maybe post power points on laulima.
the only things that i would suggest is to maybe send the slides to the students through laulima. when she lectures she speaks a little too fast. she has a lot of information in her head and she knows the topics quite well that its impressive. shes an experienced teacher but she just needs to slow down and send the notes to the class.
I understand why Professor Le does not post her power points; but, if that's the case, a study guide or outline of subjects/key terms for students to fill with the information they've accumulated form their notes would be very helpful for exam preparation.
It would help if the notes weren't so much to write since the slides was not posted on laulima. Also a more specific study guide would be nice because when we did get a study guide it pretty much just listed everything
Slowing the tempo down on the slides; sometimes goes too fast.
Because we are used to professors providing us with lecture notes or study guides it would've been more helpful. Although it didn't have a negative effect on me, I noticed it had a negative effect on others. I think if the professor notified the class that she wasn't gonna be providing her powerpoint slides or notes online at the beginning of the semester, everyone would've payed more attention from the beginning, and therefore grades would've shown better.
-STUDY GUIDES FOR EACH EXAM -SMALLER GROUPS FOR GROUP PROJECTS
it would be great if she gives us a study guide for the exams and give us more time to write a note during a class.
A NEW TEACHER!
you are getting paid to be a teacher, its not enough to expect the student to be able to know everything taught in the class and in the book, there is no way a student can be expected to remember all the material, it needs to be broken down in to smaller sections for tests, and the student needs a better idea of what to study for the test, an study guide would help, even if its just main idea's of what is on the test and NOT just all the bold letters in the text book that doesnt help anyone!! help the students out give them a more broken down study guide for the test, if you wont do that at least give access to the slides!!!

post powerpoint slides on laulima or go through them slower so we can take down all the information. it's hard to write down a lot of information while trying to listen and writed down key things you are saying at the same time that's not on the slides
If you are going to go through the power points very fast, don't put so much information on it
I really enjoyed the videos maybe more the powerpoints were a little monotonous dislike the questions that had to deal with percentage on the exam
post powerpoint slides
posting the slides helps to be able to review material after class
I liked the way Professor Le went about presenting the material. Lecture slides were good to take notes off of and videos from time to time helped by being examples of the material. I dont see any need for improvements. Group activities were also very helpful because we were able to discuss with eachother our own opinions and insights
no
Post power points online, prepare a study guide for exams, elaborate expectations more clearly for assignments.
- group projects should have less people or more time to present. - sit in and watch diana kim, or any other famr professor who has been here for a few sememsters, teach a class.
It was be helpful to put the slides on laulima and to have study guide for our test
33. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
good teacher and gave many examples to better understand things.
Great instructor with a Passion for the subject.
She is a very nice lady, and easy to approach with questions.
She is one of the most helpful professors I have had. She is extremely open to the many ideas students have and loves to get feedback. I really like that she has office hours and very flexible with other students' schedule to accommodate their busy schedule. She is really willing to help you if you're having a hard time. Overall, she is a great professor.
She is very knowledgable about the subject and is passionate in teaching it to her students. Overall I found her class very interesting and challenging.
she is a good teacher and she displays enthusiasm when she teaches the class. she is very informative and is very knowledgeable about her course. She always answers questions when someone asks. She also interacts with the class and thinks of different activities to incorporate within the class to make her teachings a little bit clearer.
She was a good teacher and a truly nice and respectful instructor.
Amazing professor who I would recommend to any student interested in Adol-Early Adulthood.
I enjoyed her as a teacher for this subject. Although majority of our class failed the first exam, I don't feel like her expectations were too high. I think our class just didn't pull their own weight on effective note taking. I think this is because of the fact that most other professors post their notes online, and therefore, most students don't bother to take notes. So again, you should mention at the beginning of the semester that you will not be posting your notes online, and there won't be a study guide for the exams. I also appreciated how you make us take notes so we can improve on our note taking skills. I felt like this was very helpful, and I actually learned a lot more this way. In my other classes I don't really take notes because everything was posted. Your method was very effective, I felt.
NOT ONE OF MY FAVORITE FAMR CLASSES.
She is well prepared for her lecture but she does not give us enough time to write a note.

need to be more specific for the students not make them work so hard and study everything and only a few things they studied will be on the test.

Very knowledgeable in the subject, but wasn't very intersting when taught to us
great teacher!
not bad
its great to have a professor who displays an understanding and passion for what they teach.
Professor Le is an excellent teacher and should continue teaching on the same path
Good teacher. Knows her stuff, keeps your attention.
no
I feel she is very knowledgeable in this field but needs to work on her teaching methods and communicating her expectations to the class more effectively
good teacher with good intentions. has potential to be a great teacher here.
very good teacher that enjoys teaching

39. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
I liked learning more about emerging adulthood since that's the age range we are in.
Multicultural videos
I liked the group presentations. We were given a lot of time to get to know our group members through in class activities and working as a group was fun.
I loved learning about the different types of things adolescents go through. I didn't realize that media had such a huge impact on adolescents.
I enjoyed the group work that we did during class.
i liked the group project. fortunately the group i ended with was an excellent group and i was able to learn about my classmates and the value of teamwork.
The videos and case studies integrated into lectures were very interesting. It's nice seeing how theories and concepts apply in real life.
I liked how things we learned were things that were useful in life and things that i can relate too
Videos and quizzes.
Working in groups together and course content.

40. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
Wish they were more opportunities to accumulate a good grade.
Lack of study guide
I think most student would be more motivated to participate for extra credit, not candy.
I didn't really enjoy taking the exams. The exams were comprehensive and abstract. You really had to understand the concept in order to apply it to answering the exam questions.
I didn't like the paper because i felt that three pages was to short to maximize the potential of the paper.
it was a pretty good class
The group project was the most frustrating aspect of the class, particularly when we weren't given a rubric or list of expectations for our presentation.
The amount of notes because when we were given exams a lot of the information we were required to study were not relevant to the tests
