I felt that the access test should have been delivered about 5 weeks into the semester, rather than right at the beginning.
A Great teacher to have, and I would recommend him to other students.
We should have had the access exam after we went over homework assignments and exercises. That just killed my grade and I think I could have done better if I took it now. The presentation was unfair for students who actually done the homework. Instead of making it random, we should have the freedom of choice to choose which member to go up and present. If not then we should at least had the student evaluation like the other homework assignments to keep consistency and fairness. Please give us more detail about the quiz whether in PPTX or explain how to read COBIT. When we had the COBIT quiz, it was too hard to understand the material that I didnt know how to study for it. Nevertheless, I learned how to use access and was able to learn about IT side of accounting. Thank you very much and hope the final exam isn't that hard!
The group exercise which we made the origami was a lot of fun. It was a fun assignment and good way to meet group members. However I really didn't know what to do during the assignment and if it was more clearly planned out it could've been much more successful. Also being a student who is retaking the class for a second time, I can say it was done much better this semester. The access exam in the beginning of the semester was extremely helpful and really gave everyone a chance to learn access. I was also much more prepared for uml diagrams and linking because of the access exam practice. Also the quizzes were much better this semester, last semester it was very confusing and the questions were not as relevant to the material covered in class lectures. This was a Great class though and I learned a lot this semester. P.S. if the group has to turn in one evaluation or similar evaluations, there's no real purpose of doing the evaluation because no one wants to be mean by giving someone a lower score with them knowing you gave them that score so, we're all most likely gonna lie and give everyone the same amount of points lol.
Professor Wang made ACC 409 enjoyable and understandable :) As for the transaction exercises, I thought they were fun and a good way to allow us to interact with other students and learn how the subjects taught in ACC 409 can be applied to real life situations. I would recommend that Professor Wang continue with the exercises :)
I think the the exercises we do in class do help with the subject matter and help prepare the students for quizzes and homework. I really like how prepared Professor Wang is every class and he flows through the class nicely so that we don't feel bombarded or bored for the entire 2+ hour class.
Tough course but still wanted to learn it!

David Wang was very helpful and always available to help students- so nice to feel like you have that support while taking a class!
Professor Wang is knowledgeable about Accounting and Accounting Information System and I learned a lot from him. When I came to ask questions, he is always willing to help me and his feedback is helpful. He was well prepared and organized for class and treated everyone fairly and equally. I love his class. Good professor! The integrated project is hard, but helps me to understand the process better.
aï¼?are those exercise for cycles helpfulï¼? I think most of the exercise can help me learn more about the course and business processã?? You can keep the exercise but have to makesuure that the student can finished it by the timeã?? bï¼?are the materials new knowledge to youï¼? Yesï¼? It is pretty new knowledge for me because i learned more about the function of accesï¼? excel and some classï¼?business process modelã?? Thank you so muchã?? other commentsï¼? I think the group project is really difficult to finish it and we are lack of the sample to finish itã?? I think if the group project be more simple as the inclass exercise will be greatã?? thanks
The examples and exercises really did help in understanding the material being presented. I feel that if more sample problems and solutions were available for the different concepts, it would help in reinforcing the material. With that, I believe that Professor Wang did an excellent job in explaining how things work especially in network security. The concept and importance were explained in a simple yet engaging method. The clips of various movies and actual real-world examples shows how important these things are to companies and businesses.
Always willing to help and responds quickly to all questions. Thanks!
He should be been more helpful when students asked for help for the integrated project.
I agree that the exercises for the cycles are helpful because it shows us what to do when we do our homework except I think that the exercises should be a little more difficult to resemble the homework. I was a little confused when I had to do the homework because the exercises were easier. The materials are new knowledge to me. I like that we go over some of the past material because it helps me to remember and sometimes I didn't get it the first time so I was able to better understand the material. I do not like group projects. I feel like I need to rely too much on other people to get my grade. I feel like I contributed a lot to the project however I ended up getting a bad grade for this project. I like to have control of my own grades and have to do the work on my own and maybe just consult with other students instead of having to rely on them.
The class exercises were definitely helpful and encouraged students to consistently come to class and remain engaged in the material. The group project was a good idea. The only thing I would change is instead of having a random section assigned for presentations, assign a specific section a week ahead so students could better prepare the material.
Are the in-class exercise cycles helpful? I very much enjoyed the in-class exercises. They were a different yet effective way of teaching the many aspects of the business cycle. It was a creative and enjoyable way of learning. Are the materials new knowledge to you? Yes. Even though the Creately website was not very reliable, often froze or crashed, and so was a bit of a pain to use. It was also an effective tool to teach us how business processes works. Through building the models i though it was easier to get a better understanding of the matter at hand. The models were also relatively easy to make, but having to explain them after to a client made us really have to think if our work made sense. Through explaining it to someone else we were pushed to logically think about the process. I think this was a valuable lesson, to learn how to convey what you are doing to somebody else in a manner they are able to understand. The course project i felt build on what we had learned in BUS 311. However it was on a whole new level, as we now were left to work on access with much less help from the instructor. This ended up requiring a lot more trial and error. I would say because of the access portion, the course project was the most difficult project i have had in school up till this point. It was highly time consuming, and i wish we got a better warning of just how much time was required. I also think if you do the project again you should let the students start on the access portion much sooner. However i also felt i was able to rise up to the challenge, and i learned so very much from it. I am overall happy we did the project. Thank you for a very challenging yet enjoyable semester.
He provided a presentation material only once. The quizes were mainly from his lectures, but it was hard to understand important parts during class.
Too many people in one group. Maybe 3 people per group would've been better. Others tended to slack off and let the other members do all the work. Other than that, thank you Professor for the lessons on Info systems and Accounting. Tough subject to get through but interesting none the less. Learned many new tools on excel and access. AND the UML class diagram and activity diagram. Makes it easier to understand the processes that happen in businesses. Appreciate it. Keep up the good work Professor Wang. Have a good break also.
It is always nice for students to have many opportunities to earn extra credits. He gives many extra credits and I do really like the 10-point thanksgiving gift! But I think he needs to explain more about the access and gives more practices from easy to difficult level gradually. For me, the Access part of the final part of the project is too hard compared with the ones we practiced before. He always replies email very fast but sometimes he did not really answer the questions. All in all, I like his class.

Dr. Wang was a great professor! It was an accelerated course, but made learning the material much easier with in-class exercises and making sure that everyone participated during lecture. Thanks for keeping the class interesting!
Thanks for a great semester, I learned quite a bit and gained an appreciation for what accounting can be used for.
One of the most regretful and horrible classes that I've taken. Lectures were disorganized and his accent was hard to understand. Quizzes were also too hard and literally, we're teaching the information to ourselves rather than him teaching it to us.
ACC 201 was a great class. I definitely learned a lot. However, I wish that we could have been told that a TA was present. We weren't aware of his presence until the last day of the course. It would have helped so much more to know there was someone else we could have gone for help.

I would recommend students to take Professor Wang because, he is always willing to help and asks if anyone has questions before moving on to the next topic.
Professor Wang is very accessible and helpful during his office hours outside the classroom if you need extra help. He is also willing to give you extra readings/resources that would help you understand the topic better than the textbook. He understands that this course is difficult for students who are accustomed to traditional accounting courses, and tries to help the students as much as possible. Overall, a good course to take- thank you Dr. Wang!
Needs to keep in mind that we are students and not very knowledgeable on the subject they are teaching. Need to give more time for exams or shorten it. If they can do it within the hour and fifteen minutes that mean, we, as the students won't be able to complete it in the same time frame.
Professor Wang seems very well versed in the course matter, but I think his teaching style does not work well with the students. Perhaps because he is so proficient he has a hard time understanding what some students might have difficulties with. He tries to compensate for this by walking us through exercises. I feel that many students might give him bad scores because they feel he is too difficult, but I think he will become a good teacher with some constructive criticism. He is open to student feedback as well, which is great. A detailed, in depth study guide will for example let students know what is most important to know. Ideally you want students to know everything that is covered, but giving a good study guide helps students to build a framework for the most essential items that they can then build off of.
Because this course was taught by both Dr. Wang and Debreceny, I found the exams, the grading, and the overall class expectations to be extremely inconsistent. I thought a lot of the material covered in class was frustrating and irrelevant, and I honestly don't know why this class is required. I am just glad that Dr. Wang was always available outside of class for extra help (via email and/or office hours) and that he was very nice and easy to talk to. Otherwise my semester would have been miserable.
-Learned a lot in the course -Exams were a bit difficult: hard to study for since we basically had to know everything -Didn't like the calling on students for questions
Dr. Wang was informative and knowledgeable. He was friendly and willing to help with assignments and any questions I had. I really felt like he wanted us to learn and succeed in this course. I gave a "disagree" for the materials required for the course because I thought the textbook was too broad and a bit unorganized. However, the materials that the professors brought to class were useful.

The activities were helpful in understanding the steps of the cycle, but to make it more effective, I suggest covering the steps before hand, then acting out the steps, and ending with a review and discussion of cycle including inputs/outputs. [Examples: What inputs were needed for the bill of lading? Where did you send the document? etc.]
Always looked forward to coming to class at night. Although it was just once a week that we got together, I was able to learn a lot from the lectures. The diagrams were also very helpful when emphasizing the important points in chapters. I was also able to gain more insight on new and old program applications which I know will surely be put to good use in the future.
The transaction cycle exercises were very helpful because they allowed me to see and understand how it is applied in real life, which could not have been as well if we just had to draw it out. They were also fun to do because we got to work in groups and create actual products.
The transaction cycle is very helpful, it turns the book knowledge to real life. At the same time, it helps me to understand the cycle much better.
the in class activities are very helpful for learning purposes.
Some of the information in the textbook seemed to be a little outdated, but was still useful. I would have liked to learn more about internal controls.
I think the transaction cycle and exe are helpful.
I think it was helpful.
I enjoyed the in class activities because it provided a real life situation of the lessons that are being taught during lecture. My favorite activity consisted of the manufacturing cycle with the beads.
The transaction cycle exe are fun to have. We can learn it from playing the game and having fun. It made me think in depth and from the different perspectives of different groups in the cycle.
I felt that Dr. Wang was a great professor. I felt that the class time was used wisely, focusing on the important aspects of the course while we as students could review the textbook on our own. Making short in-class assignments mandatory definitely helped me learn.
I enjoyed the trans cycle exercises, they were a much more interesting way to learn and I thought that they were a lot more exciting than simply reading about it in the book. I thought that the first exercise was the better of the two since it required more collaboration between groups. 1 suggestion.....offer more extra credit
For the transaction cycles, it would be more helpful if the forms were explained first. We spent more time figuring out the forms than necessary. The activity was engaging though and fun to do.

Professor Wang is a great and helpful. The only thing I had difficulty I had was with preparing for the IDEA tests. The workbook was not too helpful with applying the knowledge.
Compared to the other co-teacher, I think Dr. Wang was much better. Although I'm not too sure how much he contributed to the course aside from someone to ask questions to. The flowcharting was an interesting exercise and applicable. I wish he gave more instruction for assignments. I think he uses the "It's a Masters level course" also..not a good reason for lack of instruction. Should have made IDEA a more prominent feature in class. I didn't appreciate being thrown into an internal audit without any direction. Did either of the 619 teachers actually do an audit so that we could actually learn?
I would recommend starting the audit projects earlier in the semester. I felt that the course was too heavily loaded with requirements and tests at the end of the semester.
I know this class was taught for the first time this semester and I understand it might be hard to organize a class for the first time. However, I think if you shorten the amount of work that needs to be covered in one class period the students will learn better.
ACL exercises were crammed into a few short weeks. Assignment info was announced on Laulima, in emails, and in class. It was too difficult to keep track of what he wanted. With 2 professors they tried to stuff 2 semesters into 1. It was too much.
This course is extremely demanding and requires a considerable amount of time outside of the classroom. I do not think this class is for everyone, especially considering that most graduate students are employed, have family responsibilities, and are taking other graduate level courses. I believe that either: the workload should be dialed back, or students should be explicitly warned before registration that this course requires a significant amount of time (considering all of the reading materials, assignments, studying for IDEA tests, and especially the audit project). I would have appreciated more preparation for the audit project than was given. We reviewed relevant concepts, such as testing and writing audit programs, too quickly, if at all. Risk assessments were important for all of our groups and yet we didn't spend little time on it in class. I also think that there should have been a midterm instead of a final. It would fit better if we covered the material and were immediately tested on it instead of going over the material, working on an audit project and three IDEA tests, and then getting tested. Perhaps the IDEA software, if taught in the first half of the class, could have been useful for testing for the audit project. The audit project required a lot of time and effort. I think that instead of having it only last for half the semester, a few more weeks could have been added to the project so that the assignments were more spaced out (such as the audit program and the mid project review) and we would have more time to work on the audit report. We had so much to do for the company at the same time as the deliverables, that we would have appreciated more time to work on the deliverables for class. In my undergraduate auditing class we did a semester-long audit of different departments of the university and that was a very useful learning experience. The material being taught in class corresponded to what we were doing in the audit. It was great because we were learning it in class and then being able to turn around and use this knowledge in our project. You are obviously very knowledgeable on the subject of IT audit. Many of the students, myself included, are not familiar with the material at all. We appreciated that when you taught the flowcharting and diagrams that you went step-by-step and explained the concepts to us in- depth.
Professors would plan a lot for class, but we usually were not able to cover everything planned. There was a lot of material, so I am not sure what my takeaways are from some of the topics; there are a lot of standards, so I am not sure if I am supposed to memorize it. I liked the guest speakers; they were very interesting. Felt completely lost on the flowcharts... probably my fault; I have a hard time thinking about it in my head.
Way too much work. No full time student has the time that this class required. I feel like I was introduced to a lot of topics but I didn't learn any topic well. The guest speakers were nice, but it wasted class time that could have been spent teaching students more about IDEA and auditing. I had high hopes for this class, but I am overall disappointed. I did not learn anything well enough to retain it for future use. Instead I spent valuable time trying to figure out the IT Audit project. And I still feel lost about that project. I am also disappointed that we did not receive valuable feedback from the assignments we submitted. Especially since there are two professors to share the grading and feedback.
I would suggest that the IDEA test can be done as a take-home exam or a homework rather than a test in class. This will give us more time to do the task since just one-hour to do the task is very difficult for us to write a good analyst report.
i wish the class set aside more time for IDEA since it was difficult to grasp in the beginning. overall, i really enjoyed this course, especially the project. thank you!
Dr. Wang possesses very strong knowledge of the subject matter and was very helpful when questions were asked.
Mahalo
I wish we had more of the class dedicated to learning about IDEA.

Some material was covered thoroughly while some was barely touched upon. I think it would be better to cover a little more about those topics that we don't discuss much in class.I think we spent way too much time on DFD's and too little time on XBRL. However, creating DFD's was very interesting, while a lecture on XBRL would have been very boring. This class was very helpful and educational. Thank you Professor Wang.
Thank you for sharing your extensive knowledge in accounting.
In-class exercises and homework are good practice. Three quizzes helped me to understand the chapters. Professor Wang explains clearly in class. I learned a lot of things from professor Wang. Thank you very much.

A very very very boring course material but he presented it well. Not sure where well need to know how to make diagrams in the future but he taught the material well and made it as interesting as it could be!
Dr. Wang was very helpful and knew the course material very well. He was able to teach complex material in a much easier way so that the students can understand.
information ahead of time to students about homework, outside of class assignments, and materials needed for the next class could be more clearly given and presented by the instructor so students can be more well prepared for class. While a syllabus was given, it is subject to change and most assignments and homework where not mentioned on the syllabus. It would be more beneficial for the instructor to make sure extra assignments and homework for the students are clearly presented to the students and requirements understood. Some outside assignments had a serious potential to be missed by students because of lack of understanding or failure to post assignments earlier on or make students aware ahead of time.
David Wang is a great professor and knows the subject material very well. The book, however, was hardly helpful. Furthermore, out of all the business and accounting classes i have taken at Shidler, this class was the least useful. It essentially reteaches material learned in BUS 311 and hardly focuses on accounting at all. I would much rather the requirement for an undergrad accounting degree include a different class--one that would be essential and helpful in passing the CPA exam or putting students in contact with more applicable material to the business world. The class just seemed rather redundant with what was taught in BUS 311.
I liked the nature of the assignments. Learning to build queries, databases, and DFD. Very interactive and informative. I learned a lot about controls, technology, and security. I feel this course is important and vital to any students career. Material is very relevant to any student wanting to become an auditor in a public accounting firm. This class is an insight to the future of accounting and I feel that the subject needs to be taught at a higher significance. Instructions were sometimes unclear. He gave lots of opportunity for extra credit. Was very helpful when it came to answering questions. The professor is very informed on the subject and gave out helpful hints on useful websites.

There are some difficult materials in ACC409 class but Professor Wang explained the materials very well. He is awesome! :D
He is a good instructer. The class was very well taught and I was able to obsorb the material very well.
Great Teacher!!
This course has a great pace. The material was difficult, but Professor Wang was great at explaining the information especially the Data Flow Diagrams
Great class. Thank you!
nice professor :)
Having an associates degree in accounting and about to fulfill my Bachelor's, I am not quite sure the relevance of this course. At my two year school I took a course on computerized accounting in which I used accounting software. I thought that was what this was. The majority of the class seemed lost during class exercises and while Professor Wang seemed very knowledgeable, after this class and reading the book I feel I have gained nothing. Most of whats in this class I learned in introduction to business and common knowledge. I feel this course should be substituted for a course in Peachtree or Quickbooks.
Thank you for the extra credits points that we're offered. It really helps out!
David Wang is highly knowledgeable about information systems and so I feel confident learning from him because I know any questions I have will be answered. His course structure is well planned; In-class assignments and homework are reasonably assigned and graded. His teaching style of using the whiteboard and projector is helpful. My only suggestion would be to add in bonus questions in the quizzes. I feel the quizzes have so much weight in my grade. I constantly do my work and I turn in everything on time but I get worried about the quizzes because a couple questions wrong might really bring down my score. Overall, he's a great professor who knows what he is doing and grades fairly.
I think this class needed to be more broad as to what companies actually use what system and should be more about real world application. It seemed more like an IT class rather than accounting. Professor Wang is a great professor that obviously understands and knows the material, I think it needed to be brought down more to a student's understanding.
I would like to thank Professor Wang for teaching ACC 409. The course content was a little difficult to understand but Professor Wang helped the students when they had questions on the exercises and homework assignments. I thought that I learned many new concepts that I never knew before and I am confident the skills that I picked up with this class will help me do better in future accounting courses.
What an interesting class!
pretty impressed with his ability to lecture with no source materials in front of him, he obviously prepares before class, or has a photographic memory. I would believe it if it was a little of both

Best Accounting professor at UH Manoa, very very helpful.
David Wang is a nice teacher, but he is very hard to understand when he is teaching. His class is confusing and it seems he leaves things unexplained and jumps from one point to another. Hard to even come to class because it's very confusing.
Was a great class. I learned a lot and was happy with the grades and the teacher's teaching style. I didn't like the amount of homework as sometimes the homework didn't always correspond to everything we were going to cover on tests but it was ok.
I really liked Aplia and the use of online resources to complete work for this class. I thought it was much more effective than even going to class because you could actually pace yourself and teach yourself the material in a way that you could understand and remember.
For some reason in the online hw i couldnt answer certain questions...like it wouldnt let me input any answers
In the beginning of the class, you moved a little too quickly and many of us were a bit lost. More classroom participation would be nice. Otherwise, helpful class.
