| She understood when my father passed and I had to miss class time. |
| Critiques on each speech to improve on the next one. |

| She spoke to us individually and was specific about what we individually needed to improve at and what we did well at. |
| She is the most understanding teacher I have ever known. I have had a lot of family issues, lately and she really lets you know that she is willing to work with you to figure things out. |
| She make time for each student and follows up on test and assignments making sure we

| Reminds us of speeches needed and focus this is a speech class so we need to speak. Encourages
and gives examples of how a speech is to be delivered, dramatic and very energetic. Love it. |

| I liked the exercises we did in class with making group speeches. |

| She was very funny, and kept the class constantly involved. |

| Dr. Van Hessen, Mahalo for your teaching and speech was enjoyable and fun learning. I would have
all my friends and associates take your class. After the second speech, I think the whole class was
very comfortable with one another and compliments were given freely, not only on the evaluation
forms but given orally to the speakers. A chance to express our thoughts to the speaker genuinely
and given the time to do so was a blessing. You are a great teacher. Aloha |
