10. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
This class was super interesting and the teacher was awesome!
Writing assignments/ discussions
When Dr. Joe had the review sessions at school, I liked it because I felt I could learn a lot more.
The powerpoints with Dr. Herzog's audio mixed together really helped. I did enjoy the layout of the textbook. I felt it was organized in a way that helped someone like me, who wasn't so familiar with pharmacology before, gain a better understanding of the subject.
I liked being able to contact him when i had a question and that we didn't have to be in a classroom
Online Paced Interactive
Dr. Herzog's funny comments in the online lectures
Online lectures are always accessible whenever I want them, and they are accessible all semester long.
The professor brings current events into the classroom environment- discussing new drugs that are just entering the market. It keeps things interesting. I also liked having the reviews on campus before the exams but it was hard because I live 25 miles away from campus and I would sometimes rather stay at home and study by myself. But the reviews did benefit me.
The fact that I could work at my own pace.
Study sessions were very useful for our exams.
Dr Herzog makes what could be a very boring course interesting and fun through his lectures and makes what it is in the book easier to comprehend.
11. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
I can tell we were just really skimming the surface of pharmacology, I wish there was more time to really go into the details of things.
slides and study guide
I didn't like we only had two tries at the quizzes.
I really had hoped this class was conducted in person, on a weekly basis.
The lectures were very hard to listen to because they were pretty dry.
there were a few times i wished we were able to talk in a classroom setting
Never met up for class at least once a week.
Subject matter can be very dry, it is hard to learn all the drugs and stay focused in an online class.
The sheer amount of pharmacology knowledge that this course contains.
Being online and not consistent with due dates. Some assignments were due on Saturdays and other was Sundays. I did not complete some assignments because I completely forgot but if it was due every monday I would make sure that I get it done. With the due dates being scattered, it showed me that I needed to be more efficient with my time management but it was also hard because I have the internship class and other classes I am working hard on getting high scores in as well
There was not as much structure as I would have liked.
The lectures were a little boring.
That it is all online.
12. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
This class moved pretty fast so it was hard to really take the time with each chapter to thoroughly absorb all the information. But I don't know if there would be anyway to slow down this topic it is jammed packed with information.
Online class should be in-class, to ask questions about material being taught. Better slides study guides should be given in a week in advance to students.
This is actually a great course. Teacher is wonderful and you learn a lot from him. The only way it could be improved, is if it was a course taken in an actual classroom, or at least a hybrid? Like what was done in radiology over the summer. We meet with the professor once a week to do a summary of the lectures and to get a better understanding of the material, and quizzes, readings, and lectures could be online.
I don't mind it being online, but maybe if it could be combined with an in-class/online situation. Maybe if it met every 2 weeks would have been a little more helpful. I still felt that I gained a lot of information from it being just an online class, but for me, I'm more visual and I prefer face-to-face interactions.
With this course being one of the hardest courses of the program, I believe it would have been better if it was conducted in-person.
I would rather have this as an actual class.
I really don't think that there is anything that needs to be changed in the course, I thought that all of the information was relevant and necessary for the field.
Maybe have at least one day in-class lecture.
I think students would do much better if this course was a in-person class.
I really think that this class should not be online, but in person. I also really think because of the sheer amount of pharmacology needed to be learned, that either less should be taught, or this class split into two semesters so that we as students can digest all this information better and less stressfully.
The lectures are somewhat damaged-computer problems: so re-record the lectures and make sure everything is accurate
If you had a short assignment due every week for each chapter it would keep people on track more.
I think an in-class course would be better.
I don't have any comments for how it can be improved since it is an online only class.

* For question #9 I put N/A because this course was filled with a lot of information, I gained a lot of knowledge and I normally had a pretty good understanding of the material, if I didn't have a clear understanding Dr.Joe would clarify. I put N/A because I would have enjoyed the face-to-face more then listening to a recording. During face-to-face I feel it is easier to keep a conversation flowing which in turn could lead to exposure of cool information.
Pharmacology is a difficult subject for me, but I feel that what I learned in Dr. Herzog's course is a great foundation to what I will need for my career.
I am happy that we were able to get some extra credit points at the end of the semester.
The review sessions should have been during the school week before or after a class. It is hard getting to campus at night on the weekend when you do not live close by. It would have benefited me if there was a quiz every week on each chapter that way I stayed on track with my readings.
Challenging class, but Dr. Herzog was very helpful & I learned a lot. I wish it was an in-class course though.

3. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
All the hands on learning.
Everything! I especially thought animal handling was the basis of everything we did.
Weekly field trips were most helpful because we were able to get hands-on experience with animals we have less experience with.
The hands-on experience during the field trips
The hands on skills demonstrations and fieldtrips were extremely valuable. I realize this took a lot of work to organize on the part of Dr. Herzog. He should be commended for his efforts!
Hands on fields trips
I liked that we went on field trips around the island. We saw different areas, met new people and still got the experience of working with animals.
Field trips and discussions. Having everyone ask a question prompted me to think and learn more, actually think of the details.
All the hands on with the large animals
Plenty of hands on experience.
4. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
It was all valuable information.
There was no such thing as "least valuable" for this course.
To me, the online aspect wasn't as valuable even though it was convenient for our schedules. Although I wouldn't change the online aspects, it was understandable and easy to work with.
Nothing really.
NA
Radiology
I feel like all aspects of the class are valuable.
Sometimes the class felt a bit too big. And, sadly, as before, Dr. Herzog is very nice in person and very intelligent, but his computer/recording voice is very monotone oddly enough. Sounds nothing like how he does in person. I'm not sure if this can be fixed, but it is worth noting that sometimes it is hard to listen to lectures.

7. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
I think Dr. Herzog did an excellent job teaching this course.
More field trips!
Really this was new experience for both the students and the teacher. Because this was the first course ever taught it was a "touch and go" feeling. However I believe a lot of what was covered was spot on with what should be taught in a large animal class. Integrating a hybrid online / on the field experience sounds unorthodox at first but it works well.
Shorten the Q&A session at the beginning of each fieldtrip
More organized field trips, this way our time would be spent doing more while we are there
Some parts of the class still seem unorganized. I hope the kinks get worked out as the class progresses and grows. I think that the class could benefit from a teacher's assistant or supplemental instructor to help when everyone is in groups completing tasks. It seemed a little overwhelming for the instructor at times. For example, during the radiology lecture he couldn't be every where at once and I don't feel like I got a good understanding of the radiology concepts with large animals. I wasn't able to complete all the tasks that day and we went well over class time.
Not much. Class seems a bit too crowded sometimes, but nothing major. I don't know why his computer/recorded voice for online lectures sounds so monotone, but it does make it hard to listen and pay attention. Sounds nothing like him. Although, I don't like how my voice sounds either over recording, so maybe it's just me...
I wish that we could have spent more time out of the field, but it was a great experience
Dr. Joe's teaching methods are great.

Really good course! I think Dr. Herzog did an amazing job.
I enjoyed going on the field trips and it's a shame we weren't able to go on more. Experience is priceless. Part of it was all the holidays that fell on Fridays and events like Spring Break.
I enjoyed his class
I had the most fun in this class. I came into the class with zero knowledge of the material and left enlightened in both book knowledge and hands-on knowledge. To be able to physically care for large animals like the cow and horse was a once in a lifetime opportunity for me. I'm glad there are classes like this in the program. I also I wanted to comment on the dedication and commitment both Dr. Langston and Dr. Herzog has graciously provide for us. For Dr. Herzog to teach, prep, and shuttle students every week is a lot to do especially for a busy person like him. To volunteer to teach a class he himself had little experience in is extraordinary and something I respect. I have no regrets taking this class and would gladly take it again.
Good teacher. I muchprefer him in person as opposed to online. I do understand he works in a clinic though, so it can't be helped.
Great class
Love this class.
