8. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
hands-on experience with clay work :)
Learning to be one with the clay and being able to think outside of the box with ideas was most valuable in this course.
I really like the freedom we were given when creating each project. We weren't given any restrictions on the designs itself. This allowed me to get as creative as possible and really challenge myself.
How free I was to go for my own ideas
The techniques I learned in order to be more successful as a potter.
Learning how to work with different types of clay and learning how to throw using the wheel as well as hand-building to make sculpture pieces and glazing.
LOVED THIS CLASS!!!! the lectures the hands on practice on the wheel ALL DEMOS glazing practice
The critiques were good ways to touch base with what we could improve on.
Everything was awesome (except paper)

15. Please list your suggestions for improving the course and/or the instructor's teaching style and methods.
it's already great :)
She should check up on all her students to see how they're doing and ask if they need help with anything.
I learn more with hands on teaching. I think that Erin should walk around the room more while we're on the wheel and help guide our hands while we're working. It's difficult to learn wheel work especially just by talking about it.
A little more enthusiasm and more creativity with each project.
None, she was great.
NONE!! Shes the best ceramics teacher I have had.
TAKE PAPER off the syllabus! SO lame

Erin Yuasa is one of the best professors teaching at this school!
Unsure how I was graded on projects, maybe a sheet with a more detailed criteria with scores would be good Critiques took away from hands on time. I found them important, but too lengthy
Erin is great! She is extremely clear in her instructions and her handouts help a lot. This lady is the picture of organized. Give her a raise! A very enjoyable class. She treats her students like peers who are learning, not as children.

6. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
learning how to make the pieces
Erin was the most valuable! She knew her stuff and was so helpful!
The demonstrations were very informative and essential to my work.
New throwing techniques added a challenge to how I had once learned in the past. Usage of materials, like slips, oxides etc, and new ways to use clay sculpturally helped to challenge myself.
the hands on experiences
How to do certain things. She broadened by ceramics ability.
Erin was very helpful. She is a good teacher and I liked the way that she structured this course. It was very good that all of the assignments were due BEFORE the last week of instruction. She made things less stressful for us.
Teacher demonstations and allowing students to practice on their own but Erin would help students but not help them too much. This allowed growth for the students.
The combined ceramic essay given for this course helped "get out toes wet" with topics in ceramic history, contemporary & companies. The course was organized in a structured & in an easily manageable format.
Learning basic skills in working with ceramics as well as the opportunity to learn and be exposed to more advanced skills and ideas which expand my ability to epress myself through ceramics beyond only the basics.
Learning how to hand build and wheel throw clay so that it can survive firing process and endure through the ages as most ceramic artifacts have.

I can't think of anything to improve! Loved the class, I wish I could take it again!
I like how she teach us how to do the projects, a step to a step.
I feel it was sufficient enough. We learned all the basics and then some.
the class was fast, it was nice to have previous experience so I could execute ideas faster and explore new things in my work. It will always be tricky when you first learn, some people like throwing others don't, I think she did very well altogether, I don't know what she should improve on, she was helpful, encouraging, very clear and demos were great. It seemed to me the students needed to push themselves to speak more during critiques.
the more hands on experience, the better
Make this class worth more credits! It takes so much time outside of class to get work done.
be more direct with assignments & when to have project ideas ready
No suggestions
Given the time constraints of this course I feel that Erin used her time wisely. Hopefully more techniques can be covered in future classes.

thank you for teaching the course! i wish i could do more ceramics pieces...
I loved, loved, loved this class! I really wish I could take it again!
Erin was a great instructor; clear, concise, energetic and helpful, great job on critique feedback, and came to class smiling and happy, which makes everyone else excited to be there.
I would definitely take this class again if Erin were teaching it. But it should be noted that this class is extremely time consuming. There should be a disclaimer about it in the UH course catalog of classes. "ART 242 requires students to work outside of class times frequently, be prepared to dedicate 12+ hours of extra time to completing assignments."
One of the most enjoyable art courses I've taken so far.
