2. If this course was taken to fulfill course requirements for your concentration/major, how did this course enhance your personal and/or professional development in your concentration/major?
My major is accounting, and this class is related to accounting because it's part of the business field and I learned a lot of business applications, rules, and laws in this class and I also learned a lot by discussion questions and participating in every blog and post every week.
I truly learned a lot. The class was updated and the timing was appropriate.
I learned to become a business forecaster and to intelligently act upon the events where I could benefit personally and possibly create a chain of opportunities to encourage free flowing of ideas and innovation that will improve the quality of life of the people. I recognize myself to be creative, but this course taught me to be more creative, to be sensitive to my surroundings, and above all to pursue things that I love. This course made me refocus my plans and goals. It taught me to become a manager and not just to be a worker. The book contains valuable lessons learned from the mistakes of the past and up-to-date information about technologies we have now. The videos support the book. It was effective and promotes out- of-the-box thinking. My favorite topic is Concepts and Frameworks for Understanding What Separates Winners from Losers. Steve Jobs speech made a huge impact in fine-tuning my life. It amplified my convictions, goals, and purpose. I was improved!
The course gave me a lot of valuable information regarding management of a business and about different points of views and methods.
Learned about different management techniques and new technologies in business.
This course gave me an idea of how managers within the business world have to make decisions about technology.
Taught me how to view problems in certain companies that show the history of the dos and donts of tech companies. Using this information will definitely help me in my professional career.
I thought that this course did a great job at tying in Information systems with business.
It was very helpful.
She taught us the many reasons why we need to consider technology needs in business and in everyday life. I feel better equipped than prior to tacking the course which I will be able to use now and in the future.
I gained knowledge on how technology is used in the business field and personal life.
I don't really see how it applied to my major.
learn some useful information related to technology
It showed how technology is applied in a business environment.
This course enhanced my ability to stay on task and stay motivated.
This course really helped me develop my communication skills because it was an online class. I was able to pace myself correctly and finish my work either ahead or on time.
This course opened up my mind further to the use of today's advanced technology. I learned a great deal of information through the use of the readings, additional text, and video examples provided by the instructor.
very well
The course brings the field of interest up-to-par.
This course gave me a better understanding of Technology in my current job and how businesses have used it to excel in their industries. Also, it has really motivated and encouraged me in my educational and future career pursuit.
This course was one that actually applied to real life. All of the subjects that were studied were relevant and current.

None. Textbook is excellent.
None, all the material was excellent towards the way that I learn. Nothing needs to be changed for me.

This was the first class survey where I would not recommend changing anything. Everything was well organized. It was obvious that this instructor knows how to setup a class and run it in an efficient way.
More videos to incorporate every lessons.
Recommend the physical book to students that have never used an e-book previously.

Do not change anything. This course is awesome, and I felt that I had learned more than I ever expected to learn in this class.

Everything was perfect. Best online class I have taken out of 10 previous online classes.
The videos are very helpful, but I don't see much point to the blog posts.
I wish communication was primarily through myUH email and not the third party website used.
Recommend the physical book to students. I found it difficult to stare at the computer as a person who wears glasses, the font size is hard to read and after spending several hours on the computer at work everyday becomes a little much for tired eyes unless your able to have a version that would increase the print size for easier reading.

Clearly write all the instructions at the beginning of each assignment and have the program have a word count so we know when we have reached the minimum.
I have no improvement suggestions. Course was well laid out.
17. My overall evaluation of this instructor is....
Professor Lid is a very nice teacher who checks up on her students on our website and gives us links pertaining to what we are learning every now and then. Her method and organization of homework blogs and discussion points are clear.
Very professional and exhibits respect and treats students fairly.
Great resources. Great website. Great teacher.
This was a great class. I especially enjoyed watching the videos that pertained to our weekly topics.
As this was an online class, I didn't feel like she was directly teaching me but I understand that is hard to do through an online course. I knew that she was there for help if I needed it and I'm aware that she put together the discussion questions and videos.
excellent teacher and has a very good understanding of the material being taught.
Great teacher. Very interesting subject. Great book.
- Great book (enjoyable to read) - Quizzes / Tests are manageable if you do the reading. - Responded within 24 hrs. of sent emails. - Best online class ever taken. - Video assignments were interesting.

Viil Lid is a good teacher and all objectives are clear.
Considering this was a distance education course, I was not able to interact with Professor Lid in person. However, her online presence and constant updates with the course and world news relating to technology was great.

It was a good course to take.

I enjoyed it.
Great and informative course.
Great class to take.
Management information systems is a growing field and I think that many people should take this course because it is almost required in the business world. There should be a concentration in management information systems.
Overall, this course was was good.

We can learn many things that is related to communication and other things. It is really good things and can use in the future.
This was my first on-line class and it was very enjoyable! I learned a lot and I really liked how your able to with other class members all on-line.
The blog posts.
I liked that the course was online because it made it much more flexible to my schedule.
The uses of new technology over the internet.
Associated it with my chosen major, this class was interesting and made me want to keep learning and doing work for this class throughout the whole semester.
Viil was very good with posting pop culture references and interesting modern news articles that related to the course material, it was fun for her to bring in modern references besides the book
everything. i learned a lot.
The teacher communicates effectively and is clear about the goals and due dates of assignments.
I really liked that we could retake the quiz until we got a satisfactory grade. I thought the textbook was really good too.
The course was appropriately titled "organizational communications" - I definitely learned skills in regards to this course that will definitely be valuable to me in the workforce
Online = flexible timing.
The most valuable aspect of the course in my mind were the weekly blog post entries. I feel like writing the entries every week really helped me to gain a deeper understanding of each topic.
I like that we went over a lof of information that i didnt know dealt with communications and working in an organization. I also like how we were in groups and got to communicate with one another and discussed certain topics with our in puts and views.
all of it
The information from the course book
Although this class was online I think I've learned a lot. The professor made this online class interactive.
The ability to interact with other classmates through a designated group. You were able to review and comment on other classmates in your own group. It was interesting to see comments from others about your discussion and be able to comment them back. Another valuable thing for this course was you can add new words that were not familiar to you in a course glossary. It helped to find out information on new words and share them with your classmates.
8. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
all of it
The quizzes were really difficult for me because the reading was really hard to read and comprehend!!
The quizzes; they were loaded with useless jargon and didn't really teach me anything at all
Sometimes there felt like there was a disconnect because it was online. It doesn't have the "feeling" of a traditional classroom.
None.
I liked them all :)
the blog posts were not that valuable, just a waste of time in my opinion.
n/a
Fellow students do not post their responses well before the due date, and therefore it's hard to respond them them on time as a result.
The quizzes. They were so tough.
I thought that commenting on other people's blog posts was not as valuable. I felt like every week I was basically just agreeing with what everyone else had posted.
Nothing.
none of it
The weekly quizzes and the course workload
The readings were difficult for me cause there were points where it was difficult to understand. I had to reread chapters and go over them before taking my quiz. The reading part was the least valuable.
9. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
its ineffectiveness. the class wasn't registered as online when i registered. if i knew it was online, i wouldn't have taken it. i hate online courses and its extremely irresponsible for the school to not classify it as such.
Using moodle as academic tool
All the new and different communication techniques and styles used on-line!! I learned about face- to-face chat which I used for the first time through this course! I also learned different and new ways to communicate with fellow co-workers and supervisors in your job.
As being a complete waste of money (tuition) and time; I learned close to nothing and it has not prepared me for the work in the field of Communication.
The ease.
Using the approaches I learned in an organization.
The good skills it taught me...
The readings in the book and how in depth they were.
a lot. the material was very interesting and helpful
all of the skills and examples the text has provided me with.
Some buisness management skills I learned or how to ast or treat people in challenging situations.
It's online format and how easy the website was to use and learn from.
The fact that it was online
Online Comm class I loved!
the material in the textbook. I found it to be much more interesting than many of my other courses this semester.
Ill probably remember this course because of the way the instuctor had us take quizzes. I like the fact that we were able to take the quiz as many times as we want by a certain time not knowing what questions we got wrong. By doing this method, it really got me to read the book and reread certain area (main areas) which then stayed in my mind.
using the materials in almost every organization and seeing the different concepts, transitions, and functions and aspects of a community. Knowledge like this should be adapted and put to use so there could be a solution to every situation and these materials is used in every day environment without even knowing it.
The workload
Being an online class
Participating in community groups discussion. One in particular was the online group discussion we had to do with classmates who signed up in the same group. We used google plus hangout which was the first time I used it. It was a good way to have an online group discussion with people in different areas of the island. You can chat as well as communicate through the video conferencing. This will be the way I will remember this course 10 years from now.

19. What did you like most about your online course experience?
nothing.
the convince of doing things whenever and where ever.
nothing special
I like the fact that you can log on whenever you have the free time to do so and do your assignments and complete a quiz or exam! This type of on-line course makes it a lot easier when you have a full-time job and are going to school full-time as well.
The convenience of it; being able to complete assignments almost anywhere on my laptop.
The flexibility of being able to finish assignments. And the ability to retake quizzes.
I liked the amount of time we can to do the work.
It was fun and helped me to remember things :)
I liked the opportunity to share thoughts and it was almost more comfortable to share them not standing up in front of the class.
i liked how structured it was, simple and easy to use, as well as instant gratification to what your grades were and where you stood- grade wise.
Able to work at my own pace, and think about my answers before posting them.
I could learn on my time, I felt more dedicated to learning because there is more of a sense of presence than when I listen sometimes to lectures.
I liked the website. It was so much easier compared to laulima, which is a stressful medium on which to study.
I could log on and do the homework and readings on my own time when I could. I felt as though I was able to participate more in conversations then I ever would have in a face to face classroom environment. I loved this format there should definitely be more courses like this one that aren't a part of the outreach college.
I liked the fact that it allowed me to contribute to the discussion more readily than in a face-to-face format. I'm a rather shy person in real life, so I feel that it would have been more difficult for me to speak up in class during discussion.
I like the structure
It was at your own pace and the teacher gave a good amount of time for us to get it done. It also helped us use more new different technology.
I strongly disliked my online course. I did not know it was going to be an online class.
It was interactive and I've got to learn how to use different new technology programs which will be very useful for me in the future.
Well first you don't have to go to class everyday. You have the luxury of completing your assignments at home when you can. Or at least before the deadline.
20. What did you like least about your online course experience?
nothing.
that the class had hours scheduled so even though it was online I could register for other class that were around this time slot.
I didn't like the quizzes because they were worded really tricky and I had a hard time understanding what the questions were asking!
The impersonal nature of it; the confusion I experienced with the messaging system (separate from email) and other various parts of the website.
It really puts it on the student to review the materials and understand concepts.
I can't meet new people.
nothing!
I guess sometimes it would be nice to meet with the instructor in person.
nothing i can think of..
Not able to interact with fellow students and teachers in person. Sometimes this can help understanding material.
Sometimes the wording of the quiz confused me to what kind of answers that was required.
The quizzes !
I did not enjoy the time management aspect of it because I am definitely a procrastinator!
of course the quizzes but they were fine.
I hate the fact that there is no face-to-face interaction. Although this class was not extremely difficult, it still would be nice to meet at least once a week to have that student to teacher relationship. Also, by meeting, there would be a more clearer understanding on a certain topic or if something wasn't understood.
I did not like the blog assignments and the group assignments were difficult to set up online.
You do not learn in an online class format. The teacher is not there to ask questions and it is very hard to work.
I love everything about it.
Sometimes I will have to make sure I complete my assignments and you need to be independent on keeping track of these things when you are taking an online course. Remembering what I need to complete or do for that week.
21. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
none of it.
I liked that you could post blogs and comment on other group member's blogs and that we had open discussions. Our professor also posted a lot of interesting relevant information regarding communication!
Flexibilty.
Learning about new tools with communication.
I learned a lot, and I liked how my teacher was always there if we needed help. She responded to emails asap!
i liked blogging the best. reading and hearing feedback to others blogs.
The online format and making it easier to participate and communicate with people.
The website.
Online
I liked the fact that the course was online the best and no in class attendance was required.
Im not sure being that I always was on the computer trying to take my quiz and what not. I really liked this class
it was self paced
Everything
As I mentioned before participating in the Google Plus Hangout was the best aspect of this course. Also being able to participate in discussions with other classmates online.
22. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
all of it.
Nothing.
Nothing
on-line group meetings via Google+
Replying to people's posts
Sometimes, I wished the course were face to face
There wasn't really anything about the course that I didn't like, other than it forced me to learn time management.
n/a
The workload and the fact that it was entirely online
Not much....

24. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
not online. in person. more accountability. less lying.
This course could be improved with a completely different textbook (the textbook we used was ridiculously dumbed-down) and completely different blog assignments; it could also be improved with the inclusion of a major project, like building a website/online portfolio or creating a blog and blogging regularly.
The exams were fairly easy because the multiple choice section included reused questions from the quizzes, but the exam questions are a great way to gauge the understanding of the material.
NOTHING!
i feel Google+ online group-chat isn't necessary, maybe UH manoa could create a similar feature on laulima. i also think the course could be improved with an online book that didn't need to be 'online' but down-loadable.
More exams, fewer to no quizzes
This course could be improved by maybe varying the type of assignments every week? The blog entries got a little bit repetitive.
I think this class is already great
make it a hybrid meet with the teacher as a class
Offer this class in a classroom.
Actually I think everything was good. I like how everything was structure.
The only thing I can say that could improve this course is having study guides or reviews of the readings before taking the quiz. Having a mass discussion with the teacher to student about the readings.
25. Other comments:
The teacher was good, the textbook was horrible; could have been a good class with a different textbook and some different assignments.
None.
i appreciate how interactive Viil was with me and our class. although this was an online class, the way she interacted with us all made it feel like she truly cared about our grades, how we were doing and what we had to say. i definitely wish Viil taught 330 online as well since i felt i learned nothing from Michelle Katchuck.
Easy to use and understand website. This helped quite a bit. Thank you, Ms. Lid!

Mrs. Lid was a very great professor. Friendly and always available. :)

11. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
Perfecting my use of online communication.
I think the section tasks and discussion portion of the course was the most valuable.
Being able to do the entire course on my own time
Every week's blog posting or online discussion was most valuable to me because I had to learn and think about a topic on my own and discussed about the topic. Also I could see other students' opinions and exchange ideas and comments through the Internet.
The discussions among classmates were good. Got to see my classmates' views on certain topics.
I learned a lot about the theories and terms associated with Organizational Communication. I was also able to relate key concepts to my personal work experiences, which I really value.
being able to communicate with my class mates while applying course material.
I loved that this course was an online course with a structured schedule. It allowed me to get things done with this class without going to class and I finished all of my work at my own time, when it was most convenient for me.
The class activities
The content was really interesting.
The aspects most valuable is learning about how the business world is turning to technology for a lot of things such as conducting meetings, keeping their customers up to date about their company, ect. I have learned a lot of new sites and how to use them for when I enter the real world.
How different groups interact with one another.
I enjoyed working with a group via online communication tools.
that it was online
The discussions and blogs were very insightful. Although I had my opinions, it gave me more of a perspective when it came to reading what other students say about the topic assigned.
disscussion boeard
Nothing.
Learning how to use online discussions, reading and analyzing texts in applicable ways on forums, creating twitter
Having the fact it's an online course, the online website based is really easy to use and follow
I think that discussing the many aspects of organizational communication including the clash of cultures and the various methods of communication within organizations will help all of us and prepare us for when we get into the workforce. What we learn in this class are techniques on how to get along with others in a work environment and why thinks work the way that they do in organizations.
Applying communication via the Web and online interations were very helpful. I know I will be doing this in the real world, so it was useful to take what we leared and apply it elsewhere.
Doing the test when I had the time. Not having to sit in an actual class was a nice change.
The online course that we go on to do our homework/quizzes. Along with learning new things on how online work will be like.
12. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
The exams, I thoroughly knew all the content, but because of my slow typing ability I felt discriminated because I couldn't get my answers in on time and thus I got bad marks on both my exams. I felt that since our class time is one hour and 15mins, we should have been given that same amount of time to do the exam.
Such a short amount of time to take the exams
Nothing special
There were some problems with the WebEx website.
I felt that some of the questions on the quizzes were unnecessarily confusing, even though I had read the assigned chapters.
not having enough time to take the exams.. i would have liked to spend more time on them so i can get my point across.
It was really hard to do that single group meeting, especially because the students have never met outside of class, unless we have each other in different classes.
commenting on other peoples discussions
The 1 hour tests were difficult especially if you got stuck on a question. The grades were unforgiving if you got stuck on a question. Like I did on test 2, a ten point question i left ten minutes and I could not find the answer in the book. Ended up with 70% on it, which differed from my 90 - 100% range.
none
Nothing in this class was not valuable.
There was little input by the teacher, so it is difficult to give an accurate evaluation.

time management on exams.
Since the class is online. we lose a lot of viable information regarding organization communication. I believe just taking quizzes and replying/posting blogs are not a good way to learn. Online classes take away from the social aspect of organization communication.
The quizzes were not very helpful because I didn't learn much other than simply remembering the answers and trying to guess the right answer in an hour.
Not being able to speak to the teacher in person but emailing is fine.
I think everything taught in this course was valuable.
Not being able to communicate with the teacher face-to-face.
I believe all knowledge is valuable, but not all of it was useful at this very moment in my life.
None.
Communication skills that I can bring with me later into my professional life
13. Ten years from now I'll probably remember this course most by ...
It being my first online class I had ever taken.
How much of a great experience it was
It was the first time to take online class and I thought it was really effective for learning one of the communication methods in the society in this generation. It was really interesting and it helped me to learn the use of the technologies to communicate with people in my life.

The WEBSCO chat
remembering what class it was.
I'll probably remember most the group discussion we did about the "inner workings" of an organization, and how there are "isolates" and "liasons" within the workforce. This taught me how important communication is within organizations and it is important to make contacts and branch out to other organizations, which will help your career and your place in the workforce.
Interacting online.
Being my first online course
saying it is my first online course and whenever I work.
14. What things did you get from this course that will benefit you personally?
This course had many beneficial management communication skills essential in developing public relation skills, this class gave me great insight on how to prepare for many different occupational situations.
It helped me to work on my time-management skills
I learned so much staff from this course especially today's essential knowledge of technology usage for communication.
How to define situations with terms that was learned in this course.
Currently, I am able to take what I've learned in this course and apply them to my jobs. In the future, I feel that I will continue to be able to do the same. Specifically, I found the conflict management, emotion in the workplace, and assimilation processes to be the most interesting and useful for me.
how to better understand the internet and application on it.
I learned to do my work in a timely manner without someone hovering over me and without going to boring lectures. It allowed me to learn things on my own through the text, which majority of the exam questions are based upon.
the readings
I am more computer savvy, learning about things I never even knew people used.
How to look at different situations and react to them.

Learning how to manage time and be responsible for myself via online courses as opposed to classroom courses
how communications works in so many different organizations and how to benefit from them.
This course was my first ever online course, and I thought it was implemented well by Professor Lid. I will personally take away from this course that the world is changing in the way that social networking and digital communication is continually growing. This class helped us all to form our own opinions about this and express it, and helped us to form a "network" of our own that is our class.
Communicating via the web. It is the future, and I can expect it to happen frequently in the workforce.
I now know the pros and cons with online classes.

22. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Let us know it was online before we signed up for it.
The exams should be as long as the allotted class time,or the in class/written option should be given for those who don't like the pressure of looking at a running clock while they take an exam, other than that, this class was great.
More time for the exams!
Nothing Special It was a great teaching style and I really liked it.
Let student(s) get a chance to better an assignemnt grade.
Though we did not use Laulima for this class, I think it would be immensely helpful is announcements were sent to students' email via Laulima. The announcements on the side of the COM320 course site were not conspicuous, and I found myself missing them often.
make the exams have more time
I'm not quite too sure..
nil
I thought she taught the course really well, always messaging back quickly if we had any questions and explained things really well.
can't improve on anything, she's great already.
She needs to listen to some of her students (like asking for extra time during exams)
Maybe more teacher input via comments on our blogs.
no ideas
N/A
I don't feel forcing people to post blogs or post is a good way to teach this course. I think the problem is that the class is online and forces the student to read the book, which is rather dull. If this class was in a normal setting, it will allow the student to participate more actively and learn more.
Make the quizzes re-takeable in less than an hour.
nothing really, she makes everything clear online and as well as responding to emails very quickly.
I think for an online course this was extremely organized, and I have no improvements that could be made.
The course seemed a bit rushed, so much to learn with so little time. The book was not that easy to understand. I think I really hated that book, however, the online videos and assignments were really good and fun.
Everything was fine as it is.

32. What did you like most about your online course experience?
I took it with my friends
The ability to work at your own pace, be it week to week or jumping ahead a few weeks so that you can have more time for life.
Being able to do everything on my own time and not having to actually go to class
I can do my assignments and exam at my own pace.
Got to experience how to communicate online. I took online classes before, but not like this.
It allowed me to do assignments at my own time and convenience.
interacting with class mates
I finished the class on a positive note without having to attend lectures.
the fact that it is online so we could manage our time better
That we were given the week to complete assignments and take our quizzes, wasn't too overwhelming.
I really like the group work that was given and the wide range of work that was given because it exposes us to different types of communication tools and gives us a better understanding of what's out there.
I enjoyed getting to know people through the internet, even though it is not always a reliable source.
i could do it whenever I want
A more relaxed schedule when I am able to turn in my assignments by the deadline by my own time.
Nothing
The websco chat, the assignments like creating twitter, joining COM Hive
Easy to follow, can do your assignments within a time limit but to make sure you have great time management, easy to contact with others.
I liked how organized the material was and that I knew every week that something was due, and that never changed. There was no guessing when an assignment was due or what there was to do--everything was on the course website and was simple to follow.
Being able to read what many students think of scenarios. Sometimes in lectures, class participation is weak, and this class enforced us and helped us all participate!
The online assignments and interaction between other students was fun.
You can do it at your own pace.
33. What did you like least about your online course experience?
Sometimes things i wouldnt submit wouldnt go through for one reason or another
Like I said before, I hated seeing a running clock while I was taking my exams, I was literally having a nervous breakdown watching the clock and typing at the same time.
No face-to-face communication with classmates
I think the lack of face-to-face communication would be the least about this course.
I didn't understand WebEx at first. Had a bit of difficulty trying to set up a meeting.
I would actually rather have had this course in a classroom environment. I feel I learn better when being taught by an actual instructor instead of reading the material on my own and doing assignments on my own. I value face-to-face communication and the camaraderie of having classmates physically present. I also feel that the online course allowed to much ambiguities that could have been avoided if the class weren't online.
taking exams and tests haha
it was hard to communicate with others
nothing!
I sometimes need someone to remind me when something is due, and it is hard when no one is doing that, but it taught me to keep up with my work.
Nothing to say here...
I wish we could meet at least every other week to be able to meet with classmates and the teacher.
flexibility
Not able to meet people
I hate online classes. This course was not online when I registered for it.
The quizzes took too much time.
Nothing really
Not being able to ask direct questions with my peers or professor for instant feedback.
If the power went out... we can't do our work..
34. Which aspects of the course did you like the best?
the ability to do class assignments ahead of time, so as to free up some free time to catch on other classwork.
I could learn and do any assignments at my pace.
Immediate grades for the quizzes and have multiple chances to get an A.
being able to learn new applications on the Internet
that i didn't have to deal with too many "group" assignments
it was all online!
Everything.
The different material and engines that we used throughout the semester.
the set-up of the website. I've done classes with all the work done online but you go in for the lecture and the website makes no sense. But everything is set-up extremely well and simple and easy to navigate.
online
Online
Viil was very understanding.
The assignments and the freedom of creating my own schedule, learning at my own pace.
That we didn't have to come to class and I could be doing something else while I can take this course online
Being able to work at a time that is best for me.
That we can take the quiz as much as we want.
35. Which aspects of the course did you like least?
That it was online. This felt like redundant learning. My generation grew up learning on the go everything we learned in this class years ago.
the fact that sometimes I had server problems and had lost work that I had spent time preparing only to have it disappear when I tried submitting it, which happened to me several times.
I had to read every single lectures instead of hearing.
1) Don't care much for not knowing what I did wrong in the quizzes. It frustrates me a little to not know because the questions were worded differently, so I got confused on which answer to choose no matter how many times I read the text. Also, I like knowing what I did wrong because I can fix it. 2) Don't like how there was no chance to redeem myself in the group project. I contacted the teacher and the members of my groups individually and all of them fell through. Very disappointed in my group members, teacher, and even myself (for not pushing to receive an acceptable grade). I felt a bit left out when the teacher did not respond to my emails after I confronted her about my grade for the project. She claimed to have responded and said I probably didn't get it. The previous times I've contacted her, she respond very quickly, whether it was the day of or the next day. So it was hard for me to believe her.

37. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
Well, first off, the exam time should be an entire class period of one hour and 15mins. Second, the exams shouldn't have such complex essay questions when you know we are being timed, most of the time her essay questions were in 3 to 4 part questions.
The only thing that I had problems with was the 60minutes that we were given for each exam. For the amount of material on the exam, I don't feel that it was a sufficient amount of time.
I recommend that more frequent use of videos would be effective.
Chances to redeem students in a project, especially in a group project. Better communication when regarding a project.
1. Offer the option of taking the course in a classroom or online. 2. Communicate announcements via email as well as through the course website.
longer exam times more information on when tests are due.
maybe more interactions with people in this class would be good. it was kind of getting lonely working alone on some assignments.
link the announcement to emails perhaps? that could allow students to avoid missing any announcement
I really don't think it can be improved, all the reading relate to our assignments and quizzes, teaching us things we NEED to know about when getting a job.

The book needs to change to something a little more appealing and reader friendly. It seems like doctors and lawyers wrote it. I needed to read things over and over again just to understand it. I do not care if that statement makes me seem dumb, because there are a lot of students who said the same thing, except I doubt they will admit it to you.
Slightly better time for the exam, at least an hour and ten minutes.

All in all, this online class was a great learning experience for me, I would probably take another online class in the future.
Overall, I loved this course!
Thank you so much for teaching this semester. I really enjoyed this course and learned so much stuff! It was my first time taking online class, and I was kind of nervous about it. But, I could do my work at my own pace and I could discussed with other students through this course. I'm glad I could take this course.
The overall course was good. Despite a couple appalling dilemmas, the course was an experience that I needed. In this line of work, I understand there will be the same dilemmas that I went through this semester. Now I know how to handle certain situations. Also, I like how this class tied in with my other Communications class because it clarified certain terms i didn't understand.
She's a great teacher and she is definitely creative with her assignments. By exposing us to different tools in the communication world, it prepares us for what's out there and makes future endeavors more approachable.

The consistent work structure every week. I knew what was expected of me and there weren't really any surprises.
textbook helped me learn so much!! and the class discussions helped me gain a better understanding of the material. i am so grateful.
All aspects were important.
Pretty much everything I learned was valuable. The course made me understand about the different ways to communicate and how to communicate through various types of methods.
Rounded out my knowledge of the organizational context of communications.
The discussion posts were very valuable because I was able to see the different perspectives of my classmates to form better opinions on class topics.
The subject and material was interesting
participation activities: blogs, group discussions...etc. You could take what you learned from the reading material and apply and relate it to the activities assigned, reinforcing the content.
Practically all of the material was useful. I think it helped me prepare for when I enter the real world and get a job with my degree.
10. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
i just think the exams were too short. 1 hour is a decent time, but i have a hard time writing essay questions quickly because i like to really articulate my answer, i have a low A because i could never get the finish the exams, it really set me back.

8. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
I enjoyed that fact that the professor took the time to put our a survey of what the students would be most interested in or knew the least about, in order to organize what we would learn. Also being able to retake quizzes were a plus.
having a online meeting
Extremely organized and course webpage was easy to navigate
I think that the instructor introduced a lot of current communication sites/information that I was unaware with, but as the class was taking place, began noticing the same sites and information popping up in other classes. The instructor had the students hands on in communication groups in and out of the class, and I liked that aspect.
Being able to relate the material to real-life scenarios, both past and present.
The entire course, its text, communication tools and of course blogging done by online students. This class was one of my most interesting as it dealt with an important issue and aspect of life "COMMUNICATION" which no one can escape from. As professionals we all need to know how to communicate effectively in different environments especially in the workplace where we spend the majority of our daily hours. Another value of this course is having an instructor who made herself available and was on top of things during the entire course. I never felt like I was stuck or that I wouldnt be able to reach her if an issue arose. She definately portrayed someone genuinely interested and concerned about the importanct of effective communication in which she always portrayed within the course.
I liked how easy it was to do the homework whenever, wherever.
Critical thinking and observation of concepts.
Using outside webservices to coordinate group projects
I really enjoyed the course, actually. I felt like I learned a lot from this course through readings, Youtube videos as examples on the sections that we were learning about, discussions and the text. The most valuable aspect of the course was how Viil Lid structured the course in: 1 quiz weekly, 1 assignment or discussion, 1 chapter reading & readings about the "subject" for that week. It was at a good pace so it was enough work, not too much and not too little per week. She also gave extra credit opportunities, which really helped. She was also very approachable & I felt like I could email her because she seemed very interested in my comments so I felt like I could message her if I had questions.
Blogging, microblogging, all communication technology discussions and activities. I was aware of some of the technologies but only used Twitter. Now, I am interested in Dimdim and have passed that on to some people I know and they were all excited about it! The text was really good too (very expensive though).
I learned to navigate around the internet more then I have in any other on-line class. I was introduced and used many applications that involved the communication. It was very interesting and opened my eyes to the value of a well read and knowledgeable professor.
The group discussions because we were able to understand what our group members thought about and we were able to decide whether we agreed or did not agree to what they had stated.
9. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
Although comments from other students were valuable, i don't think everyone put forth the same effort and could have been stressed more.
the blog entry
Technological difficulties; no immediate, face-to-face communication which was frustrating whenever technological issues were encountered
Wring forum for every week. Sometimes I was so busy and didn't really have time to do it.
The asynchronous feedback and communication.
I do not see any aspect of this course as being least valuable.
sometimes was hard to get a hold of people
Communication was delayed due to peoples' schedules.
The only aspect of the course that I could critisize on is the fact that each exam was timed for 1 hour and I needed extra time on the first exam, so I didn't do so well on the first exam. This may be my fault, for I could have written a little faster, but maybe if the students were given just a little more time, or less questions on the exam then it would have been a little easier. Other than that, every other aspect of the course was great.
The group assignments were not least valuable but maybe the timing was a bit difficult to manage. Having group work due the week before or after Spring Break is hard as people leave for trips or events (sports). That was made the assignment more difficult, especially with this being an online class.
While some of the group activities worked out, it was hard to connect with many of the group participants.

15. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
Viil could encourage longer and more critical comments from other students.
Arrange a better online meeting and instruction give a little bit longer time for the exam because we had 4 long questions that we have to write 400 words.
My only suggestion is to give an hour and a half for taking the exams instead of an hour. One hour is not long enough, and only adds more stress to taking the test.
I think she needs to give more time for every exams. It was very hard for to write four short essays and do multiple choices questions in 1 hr...
-- snipped --
I have taken a dreadful online course in the past and was concerned that I would have the same experience but Viil has re-confirmed that not all online classes are disorganized. I feel that Viil has the teaching of this course perfected and in my opinion should keep the course as is.
I enjoyed the course!
Add a chat room.
There is one way I can offer to improve this course and that would be that: there were just VERY FEW assignments that were not clear like some of the "side assignments" not including the discussions and postings. This would include making profiles for Twitter, etc. I did not fully understand these smaller assignments as well as I understood the instructions for the discussion and postings. I liked how the Prof. clarified it later on, but this is pretty much the ONLY thing I can think of for improving the course because everything else about the course was organized and structured well.
Perhaps when going over platforms like Dimdim, it might be nice to have Viil lead a meeting via Dimdim so that the students can see the capabilities of the platform. Then, they can go into groups and figure out how to do those things. A lot of time was spent figuring out what to do.

23. What did you like most about your online course experience?
The online course can carry on at my own pace.
I liked that fact that i didnt have to attend a class at a certain time. Having an online course allowed me to work around my schedule.
how to arrange an online meeting
That I could go at my pace for the weekely work.
I liked group meeting for decision making process. I thought it was gonna be so hard to make group and make decision in group, but it was actually very fun and interesting!
The convenience of doing/completing assignments during any time of the day.
As a single mom it was extremely convenient for me to complete tasks and fit assignments into my very busy schedule.
Made everything very easy for my lifestyle
I got to do things on my own time, most times.
The format of the weekly quizzes was easy to understand.
I really liked, again, how the class was organized and structured, week to week. I have taken other online classes in the past (I believe 2 or 3 to be exact), and this one is definitely one of my favorites because of how it was structured. I felt like I understood what was expected in my work, and for each of the quizzes. The assignments were not easy, but they focused on the important points in each chapter, so I was able to learn alot about organizational communication and I was also able to apply alot of the subjects that we learned to my job that I currently work at and at school. I felt like the Prof. graded fairly for most assignments and I'm just hoping my future online courses are like this one! :)
It was online. Most of my time lies between midnight and 6am. That is the only time I am not busy with work and family obligations. So that is when I do my homework and sleep. Having the class online, I did not have to work split shifts for my job to go to class, I did not have to use up vacation days to work on assignments to turn them in on time, I could do it during my sleep time. I got less sleep but I got more done with less stress so it worked out better for me.
This course broadened my knowledge of what is available on-line as well as applications. It also educated me about the importance of human resources as well as human relations in a company. The tools offered to make the job experience more enjoyable as well as tools to overcome challenges.
it was different to what i was use to
24. What did you like least about your online course experience?
The only thing i didnt like about the online course were the group assignments. I am not complaining about the assignment, but rather the difficulty getting everyone online at once, to communicate any thing that needs to be done.
na
My favorite part was going at my pace, but having said that not everyone else in the class is at my pace. This meant that trying to respond to other people in a timely fashion was sometimes hard and stressful. Some people wait until the last minute for everything.
Forums for every week.

Nothing to mention.

Delay in communications due to interface.
Required responses to other student's posts. Oftentimes other students didn't respond to the prompt until very close to the time when it was due, leaving me with several "incompletes" because I was unable to respond
having to try and meet online with fellow group members.
I definitely enjoy taking online courses more than classroom courses because although many people would disagree, I have experienced "good" online courses where I have learned MORE than I do in classroom settings! I can concentrate better and I feel like I can write more clearly and honestly when I'm writing online, rather than speaking in a classroom and listening to lecture. I learned way more information in this class than I did in MANY of the classes I have taken face-to-face, so that proves that there are online courses that can teach alot and where the students can participate, learn and be motivated.

I liked the course in its entirety.

Experimenting with outside web services
If Viil Lid made up everything on this course including the quizzes, assignments, Youtube clips, articles and everything else, then she deserves a lot of credit because it kept me wondering and actually, EXCITED to know what we were going to learn next! There aren't many courses that have given me the feeling to "want to learn" the next chapter and what we are going to learn about "next week". This course was very "modern" and applicable to my life and issues that I can relate to, which is probably why it was so interesting for me. I also felt more inclined to participate in discussions and it was easier for me to communicate and participate with other members in the class through postings, rather than in a classroom setting. The Prof. made this class very interesting and I would recommend it to other students!
Videos, exercises, and the awareness created by Viil.
The applications that I was introduced to. I also liked that I could also access my grades and see where I needed improvement. I also liked that the dates or dead lines were very clear.

That the semester is coming to a close and that I'm finishing the course already.
I did not know I could go back and review the exams after the week had passed. I wish I knew that earlier, it would have helped me study better.

I think putting a length requirement for comments left by other students would make for better conversations.
time for exams work load
This course could improve by adding an extra half hour to the exam time.
I think she should give students more time for exams to finish up all questions.
More engaging communication/feedback, especially after tests and quizzes- to understand what you are doing right/wrong.
Perfect as it is.
I think that the format was well formated. the only thing that i would change is telling us more clearly what is expected and due
Add chat room
This course could be improved with less questions of the exams or a longer time limit. And this course could have a continued section like COM 320A.
Maybe regulate the extra credit. Some people work or have families, others don't (leaving them more time to turn in responses faster). Maybe open up some chapters at night (so when the kids go to sleep and the parents hop online they can see the opportunity), and some chapters in the morning. I don't know, I thought it was done pretty well actually.
29. Other comments:
I think Vii is an excellent teacher, wants her students to succeed and is good at what she does. She is willing to work with the students when they make an effort in class. I would definitley recommend this class to others!
It was an pleasantly interesting experience for my first ever online course.
I will definatley recommend this professor and class if given the opportunity.
Good course, good instructor.
I enjoyed taking this course overall, because it motivated me to learn and I felt like I learned more in this class online than in many other classes I have taken in the past (in the 4 years I have been studying at UH), so I would rate this class as being very beneficial to my college experience, especially since I am a senior and hopefully will be graduating soon.
I really enjoyed this class. I am very glad I took it!!! Thank you Viil!!! I learned a lot and all of it was very useful!!

6. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?
well organized class.
It was informative.
The group blogs and discussions.
Reading the book and the blog entries.
The online discussion forum. That way, it was easier to have everyone voice their opinions and be heard without a select few dominating the conversation, like in some classes.
Posting blogs and learning about organizations and websites that i have never heard of before.
The course is very organized and easy to follow. The information is up-to-date and useful.
I think that the group discussions and blogs were most valuable because it forced me to think critically about the questions presented.
I actually think the entire course was a well rounded view of the subject.
7. Which aspects of the course were least valuable?
exam was hard. there was time limit, and so always I was be in a hurry.
None
I didn't find any part to be less valuable than the others.
Nothing...
Because it is an online course, it's hard for me to motivate myself to do the work until the last minute.
I think that the quizzes were helpful, but were the least valuable because it was definitely very easy to skip the readings and just re-take the quiz a second time for full credit.

10. How can the instructor improve the teaching of this course?
none. this class was good :)
Giving more time to do the tests instead of one hour.

I do not know...
Add something more motivating.
Include more small group discussions because I felt more comfortable with my small group rather than posting my blogs to the entire class.

17. What did you like most about your online course experience?
In this online course she used lots of additional materials such as youtube, other website and ESN...those are technological tools. Those gave me additional knowledge and helped more deep understand.
It was convenient to work at anytime we wanted to.
Having the freedom of doing my work at my own pace.
Being able to do my work in my own time.
I enjoyed getting to do my assignments on my own time. I had originally scheduled my class into my week as I would have any other class, with the same time every week so that I would be kept on track, but I found it easier to tackle my assignments at random available times, like Saturday mornings or late Thursday nights. When I had no other work piled up, I could do as much as two full sections in one sitting if I wanted to, or as little as reading the discussion forum. Also you can tell very easily that the professor is passionate about the subject, since other than just the course website online, there was also an ESN and Twitter for it.
The convenience of it, and the interesting blog and assignment topics.
This online course is very well-organized compared to other ones that I had taken. I liked that the instructor would send messages to students once in a while because it motivated me to do my work.
I liked the fact that I could complete assignments on my own time within a given period - and I could do the blog one day and the quiz another day.
the ease of doing work at my own schedule
18. What did you like least about your online course experience?
I can work for the assignment or quiz whenever I had time. Therefore, online class is very flexible and good!
None
Not having enough time to do the tests. I often found myself scrambling to finish the essay questions on the tests.
Not being able to ask questions right away.
I only ever met two of the other participants when we did a video chat for an assignment. I don't even know what most of them look like, so it didn't seem as personal as it could have been.
Nothing.
Still it's hard for me to motivate myself to do reading assignments and do other works before the deadline. I was keeping up with the assignments at first, but I lost my motivation after a while. Wish I had put more time and effort in this course.
I didn't like the fact that we had to learn to use different online tools without much instruction - it seemed like using certain tools were a trial and error experience.
nothing

20. State in two or three sentences how this course could be improved.
This class was good!!!
Additional time to do the tests. Not having a group assignment because it was very hard to meet with group members online.
More video conferences (though matching timing was difficult...maybe there should be a list of the professor's available times, like A, B, C, and D, and everyone would sign up for that time and have conferences every time at the same time, and if others could not fit those times they could work something else out).
Prepare students for the essay section of the exam.
I think using a different website because it was very confusing for me in the beginning. I also think making certain assignments and things printer friendly would be nice. I tried to print the course syllabus and it was strangely formatted, making it pointless to print out.
I am not really sure how it could be improved. I liked this course. I enjoyed the format.
