8. What did you like best about the course?

Everything! The neuro floor was great and Sharon was very helpful and this was the first time i actually felt like a nurse during clinical.

Sharon is probably the most knowledgeable and most respectable instructors this semester. That's saying A LOT. Her specialty is so intense, and her educational and career background is so admirable that I feel she could possible be the coordinator for N360 one day.

The application of learned skills in the acute care setting and the ability to care for multiple patients at one time. It has helped me with my time management skills and helped to prepare me for future care situations.

N360 acute care clinical with Sharon Jensen was wonderful! She communicated what she expected of the students very clearly and let us have autonomy in the clinical setting while still being available. She made sure that we were prepared for clinical and worked with the staff to give us great experiences. She is very understanding and patient and very, very knowledgeable! I enjoyed working with her and having her as my instructor.

I liked that we were on the Neuro floor (Tower 5) for clinical. It was a good opportunity to practice a variety of skills and learn a lot. I also liked Sharon. She was a great instructor and was very helpful. She gives very clear instructions and good feedback on one's strengths and weaknesses.

Sharon was very supportive in clinical and had a good knowledge base of the clinical setting and various patient conditions. She really helped me to started consider more critical thinking and integration of various concepts to patient situations.

Sharon was a very good clinical instructor. she wasnt too overbearing and she was very lenient. i learned a lot from her this semester and being able to function as an independant student nurse.

15. Other comments:

Sharon is an amazing instructor overall. She doesn't hover and smother her students during clinical, which I feel helps us learn independence. Yes, she'll intervene and help whenever we asked (she's very flexible), but I respected her for respecting her students first and foremost.

Sharon is an amazing teacher who pushes her students while being friendly and non-intimidating. This has helped my learning process significantly and I feel like I have acquired the most clinical experience from this semester because of her. She is flexible with the high acuity level of our floor and adjusts teaching accordingly to prevent students from feeling overwhelmed.

This was the best clinical experience I've had thus far. I learned a lot and had great guidance to help me through this tough semester.

Sharon was a very good instructor. It was a pleasure to have her as a clinical instructor.

Loved being at queens, learned many new things on the neuro floor. so thankful we got to be there, wish i could go back!

Sharon's the best!

Sharon has a lot of knowledge, but her weakness is that she in still new to queens hospital, so she didn't know how to use certain equipment such as the kangaroo pump, IV pumps, etc. I think she was a little hesitant and performing certain proceedures with the students. I think once she gains more experience in this specific hospital unit, she will be better.

11. What did you find most valuable and helpful about the instructor?

Sharon knew the course material very well. She is a very experienced nurse that provided us with many learning opportunities as well as thorough explanations to our questions. She could always be found in a very upbeat manner and it really rubbed off!

Approachable, encouraging, supportive, knowledgeable

Sharon is a great clinical instructor. What I found most valuable about Sharon Jensen was that she always emphasized "best practice." I believe that she made each of us think and really be interested in finding out what is the best way to perform a procedure.

She was very caring and helpful. She was willing to always help when I didn't understand something or when I didn't know how to do a procedure.

Sharon is a wonderful instructor. She goes above and beyond to help her students. Sharon is extremely knowledgeable and is always willing to share her knowledge to enhance students' learning. I greatly appreciate how supportive and positive she was with each student. Sharon is very much a "hands-on" instructor -- a valuable trait in the clinical setting. I highly recommend Sharon as a Med-Surg instructor!

Just sitting us down and helping us understand some of the diagnoses. I feel that having her guide us in knowing what needs to get done was great. I really appreciated her guidance towards time management and knowing how to organize three patients.

Sharon was always helpful during clinical rotations. She assisted with medication administration and certain tasks, such as dressing changes, hanging IVs, assessments. She also available to answer questions that students had. She gave good feedback on our careplan forms.

her ability to remain patient with students during teaching is worth applauding. Provides positive encouragement to students as well as helpful constructive feedback when needed.

12. Other comments:

Sharon was very approachable throughout the semester, which I really appreciate. She was also willing to teach us new things, and even encouraged us to further our learning by doing research on things we were unsure of or just wanted to know more about. Sharon communicated effectively, showed enthusiasm for teaching, and shared lots of her knowledge and experience with us.

Sharon was an awesome teacher. Highly recommended!

9. Which aspects of the course were most valuable?

In-class discussions were most valuable. I was able to talk with Sharon and my classmates about the lessons we were learning. This helped me to understand what I was learning.

The aspects of the course that were most valuable were the knowledge about career opportunities, learning about the APA format so that we could get a head start on what kinds of papers we will have to write when we start nursing school, and a little knowledge about what to expect in nursing school.

All of the aspects were things that I had not known previously how to do before. Therefore, everything we did from learning APA format and making our presentations more effective were valuable.

Sharon is open to students. She is actively involved with her students and is always making sure that we understand what is expected from us.

She taught us a lot about what kinds of skills we will need and what kinds of things we will be learning. She helped us get our feet in the door. She is very helpful and resourceful for both school matters and out of school matters. She is also very friendly and easy to talk to so we are able to be comfortable to talk to her about anything.

She is always available for help and is really knowledgeable about almost any topic. I feel really comfortable discussing my questions or issues with her.

The instructor was amazing

Sharon was an amazing instructor and I appreciated her modified assignments that pertained to the population we were working with.

Her demonstrations on the head-to-toe exam, and her helpful pointers during clinical assessments!

I felt that Sharon was clearly an expert in the field of assessment and was always looking for ways to enhance our understanding and skills. I learned a lot during lab and clinicals because Sharon was actively engaged in teaching us.

Everything! I am so thankful I ended up with Maunalani and Sharon as my clinical teacher. She really wanted to help every one of us to succeed not just in her class but in MEPN in general. She is hands down the most knowledgeable teacher I have had in this program so far.

I thought it was difficult to learn what is normal and abnormal when assessing only elderly patients with many comorbidities.

I enjoyed this course a lot! There is only so much we can do with the population but overall it was the perfect place for beginning nursing students to begin clinicals.

A clinic with more of a variety of patients to examine

I think the clinical experience should be a combination of an elderly long term care facility and a clinic where would be able to be more active in the care and assessment of patients.

I loved my clinical experience at Maunalani. I wouldn't change anything.

I think the laboratory section was valuable because we had a knowledgeable instructor.

If the course was spread throughout the semester and less intense each week, we may have had more opportunity to soak in the material and build a stronger foundation.

My clinical was so much fun and Sharon is an excellent teacher and mentor. She should stay with MEPN not the undergrads :)
