13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
Some of Chef Leake's major strengths are his promptness when recording grades and responding to email, as well as the organization of his class. The class is set up so that if you wanted to, you could go on to the website and find out how to prepare a certain dish. This is actually part of each nights homework. We usually know what we will be making the next day/week, and it is our responsibility to prepare ahead of time so when the Chef demos the item, we know what is being done.
Chef Leake is obviously very knowledgeable about this subject matter and is able to demonstrate exactly what is needed of each task. He also has the ability to pay attention to the entire class and catch all of our mistakes.
He was very professional and was able to answer any question promptly.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
I would not change anything about the class. It is difficult enough to keep you interested, while being simple enough to not bring you down. There are many different tasks assigned each day and as long as you try the tasks to the best of your ability, you should do alright.
The biggest suggestion I have is to update some of the video clips available online. Chef Leake always tells us to look at the videos on line but some of the videos are outdated and have a different production method than shown in the demo in class.
none
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
He shows concern for his students by pointing out to them things they are doing wrong that could lead to them injuring themselves. Since it is a culinary class, there are many different hazards in the classroom that could potentially cause harm, but Chef Leake goes out of his way to stop preventable hazards as soon as he sees them. He also explains anything that the student did wrong in preparing a dish so you can do better the next time.
Constant reminders of the work that needed to be done both online and in class.
he was accessible online and in class and was always willing to discuss problems.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
Yes I would. His class is extremely difficult, but the amount you learn is incredible. If you are not the kind of person who likes a challenging course, I would probably recommend you do not take it, but if you are the kind of person who is up for any challenge thrown at you, you won't find a better teacher.
I would recommend Chef Leake to other students because although he is very strict, that quality of him is what makes the concepts really stick to you. Chef Leake makes sure you do it the right way every time.
yes.His class may be difficult but it is very informative. I would rate the class as a top quality learning experience.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
Overall he is a very good instructor that you will definitely be able to learn from.
He is a great mentor and is a subject/ field matter expert. I am thankful for all that he has taught me throughout the 8 weeks and if he offered other cooking class i would definitely enroll in them to.Thanks chef for a great learning experience.I would also like to say that the homework was a lot but i understand why it is necessary.
18. Other comments:
Thanks for the class, Chef.
He does tend to play around sometimes in class which can be some what distracting at times. For example during the vegetable cookery my partner at the station did not make sure the broccoli was dry after blanching and shocking and he takes the broccoli and splashes water on me while I am working on something else. I do not think that it is that big of a problem though however some other people may think otherwise.

13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?
He knows all the subject area.
Knew his subject area very well and was good at keeping a schedule
Vast knowledge on a variety of subjects. Willing to let students in early to work.
14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?
i think Frank Leake needs to stop favoritism!
Be a more personable and relatable and try to have some good relationship or connection to students so that they feel more comfortable. We do know we don't have to like each other and our priority isn't to make friends, but it would be nice to have a good student-teacher relationship where we feel comfortable enough to go to him for help. Also noticed that he preferred male students over female students. You could see the difference in attitude towards the genders. Also the book work was extensive and sometime unnecessary
Either make the class longer, or have Fundementels be taught over an entire semester or in two seperate classes. It's a lot of material to cover all crammed into eight weeks, especially if students hold jobs also.
15. How did the instructor show concern for students?
I don't know.
He wrote notes on daily evaluation sheets and gave continuous reminders of due dates and assignments
Taking care of students when cut, monitoring the chat room, opening class doors early for slower students.
16. Would you recommend this instructor to students? Why or why not?
I think yes. It is because he is awesome
Depend. If the student was looking for a teacher that knew a lot and they wanted to learn, I would recommend Chef Leake because I know the student will benefit. If the student wanted a more relaxed and comfortable setting and needed more time to learn all that was required, I would recommend them to the teacher that takes the whole semester to get through the required competencies
Yes, if the student is not taking anything else and only works part time. It's a good class, and it shows you how you work under pressure and how fast you pick up material, but if a student has too many commitments outside of class, it is a lot of work, maybe more than it's worth. He's a great teacher, and will make you a better cook, but it's a hard eight weeks.
17. What else would you like to say about this instructor?
He is fantastic!
He's an okay teacher. He had jokes sometimes and that lightened up the mood a little but day to day was kind of bland. He is a very knowledgeable teacher.
