I learned alot about the methods of how anthropologist work and different ways that the world came to look like it does today. I found the class very informative

Very hands on and practical.

Personally it enhanced my knowledge of the field of archaeology. I was particularly happy to learn of the first evidence of sedentism, state-societies, crop/food production, craft production, and the evolution of research methods within the field.

This course allowed me to understand how we as a society started as nomads and have evolved into the people we are today. In my field this is useful, as I am able to sometimes surmise that people behave a certain way because of cultural relationships.

part of upper division requirement, however, I did not find this subject interesting at all.

The course allowed me to broaden the way I view information and things.

I would like to see an option for the course on the campus with Dr. Belcher to be able to have face to face interaction with the instructor and other classmates.

During chats to stay on topic or give us a topic for the chat every week very hard when we get side tracked durin the chats.

The way how the "Class Syllabus" written is confusing to me.

More organized syllabus, I struggled to understand the one presented in this class.

Way too much information is covered in the course. It seemed to me that Dr. Belcher's expectations of us were way too high for our level.

a very nice guy. He is willing to help his students when it permits. I enjoyed taking a course taught by him.

Dr. Belcher is knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter. He is able to interject personal experience into the dialogue with students and encourages open discussions to further the learning process. His teaching methods are above par for an online course. He is prompt with his replies to inquires from students and is understanding to the needs of the students in the online environment.

Great. I thought that the information provided was very thorough and without being biased as an archaeologist, he presented the material in a very fair and structured manner. He was very key in chats to discuss major topics/theories related to the lesson and the readings. He also provided extra material that provided examples pertaining to the field of study. Having experience in the field, he was able to provide examples from his own study and had insight into other points of view that exist within archaeology.

Dr. Belcher is awesome instructor. During our online chat, he explained lectures using his own experience.

I enjoyed this course. The work load was a good amount and we were given ample time to learn the material. I would recommend his class to others.

A well developed course that covers a broad range of time and information that is relevant to the subject matter. It is provided in a means that makes the learning environment pleasant and informative and challenging.

It is A LOT of material but I would have never learned this much if it he were teaching straight out of a textbook. I loved working with real bones and real life situations.

Great. Provided a great deal of historical information that i didn't know before enrolling in the class. We had a research paper that allowed us the avenue to incorporate what we have learned in the lessons with a research based paper on a chosen subject. That was challenging but I'm glad that it was assigned.

Videos to watch would be influential for learning about Archaeology.

Maybe less chat and more lecture. It's very hard to have a cohesive chate when 5 million people are talking at once. Online chats are a waste of time.

I think that the class chats really added to the class. They helped to make the class interesting with different stories and experiences that everyone brought to the class chat.

Provide a more specific schedule for what topics are to be covered in each chat.

No online Chats, it was such a waste of time and I didn't learn anything from it except that my computer freezes way too much.

The exams were fairly hard even though I studied. I'm an A student but didn't feel I could get an A in this class because of the exams.

Some lectures were very long and unreasonable

There should be field trips! :)

I had an enjoyable experience taking my first course in Anthropology. Dr Belcher makes himself available even if he's traveling. He understands our concerns, and he is fair.

Professor Belcher is a very good professor! I would highly recommend him to other people. Archaeology is not something that I have ever had an interest in before, but he made the class very interesting and fun! He was always available to answer questions and encourage us and gave us many different opportunities to participate in outside of class archaeological experiences.

I enjoyed learning from the online atmosphere using the powerpoint lectures that Dr. Belcher provided. it was easier to download and review it while not having to be online constantly. Thank you Dr. Belcher.

This course enhanced my comprehension in the field of Anthropology by broadening my scope of world civilizations. Looking at the whole history and archeology of civilizations helped me see the important details particular to each culture. Going into a Mythological Studies grad program, this backround will be very helpful. I got alot out of this class.

This course was just a requirement for me to get my degree but in all honesty I felt that this course didn't affect my study on my concentration of Early Childhood Education. Not saying I didnt learn anything, its just didnt help me with anything fro the subject of Early Childhood Education.

The instructor missed most of the term due to a trip out of country, but the detailed power point presentations did explicitly present the course material.

Being more available and quicker answers to email

Although I enjoyed the free flowing mandatory chats, I along with a few other classmates prefer to have a structured chat sessions, knowing what we are to talk about or structured questions. I've noticed (myself included) that if I was not talking about what other student were discussing I'd sit on the side line and read the discussion. I felt that although I was present for chat, I did not participate in a manner that I am used to with other classes = discussion questions are already lined out for the upcoming exams or discussion questions already set for the chat sessions. However, it was a interesting learning experience.

I would try to set a more structured chat. Not everyone can easily follow along to questions that are thrown out and especially if the questions do not pertain to the chapter readings for that week. I think that the instructors absence made things a little confusing for some students, and questions were not being answered when needed.

Keep up the great work!

This course was a requriement for my ECE degree. Many of the terminologies that and discussions held was very confusing for me to follow because I felt it was in a different language. Although the information was useful, I would've gained more had it been easier for me to follow the discussion chats better.

Great teaching style and sticks to the subject at hand. Excellent power points which were of great assistance.

We actually had 3 instructors this semester but nothing negative actually. They were all quite knowledgeable and followed the course content as laid out. Dr. Belcher returned all my emails and followed through on everything. He actually allowed me to join this class after it had started because the class was initially closed and allowed me to catch up with the rest of the class. Thanks Doc.

Seemed very knowledgeable in his field. online discussions were interesting. Class seemed very fair.

Knows his stuff

He is a very busy instructor that is moving along the fast lane and is pulled in different directions (not by choice) for his expertise. I find that to be intriguing and very exciting that he is chosen to go on these trips and experience many different sites. He does have compassion for his students and was very apologetic for having another instructor fill in during his absence. Either way, Thanks Dr. Belcher for your expertise and exciting adventures. Please keep safe out there while on your trips and happy hunting - glad you finally got your leach! =)

Good. He was called away at points during our course. That was not favorable to our continuum. Other than that he was a good teacher- he knows his subject, he is active in the field and he is interactive.

William is a very effective instructor as he is well organized and prepared for each class session. As he had to go out of the country for work he prepared us for that and have us weeks notices of him not being here and told us what was going on as well as introducing us to the sub.

The teacher proved he was very knowledgable I think that people that are in to archaeology and anthropolgy really liked this course. My field of work is much different so I was not as interested in this topic as much. Overall, I think he was a good instructor.

All in all, I believe several students became disconnected from the class due to the bouncy chats and lack of instructor attendance. Don't get me wrong, this instructor is terrific however he was not around long enough for us to really judge him. If he was around more often, I think I could have learned more than having the feeling like I'm being tossed around like a cookie from one instructor to the next. Sorry.

I am glad I took this elective and I am glad I had the time to devote to the power points and text since the instructor was absent.

This course is interesting and covers a lot of material. If the student keeps up with the readings and the weekly questions, there shouldn't be a problem with the exams. I enjoyed this class. Mahalo!

Its a very good course that I enjoyed and it was very effective on my learning of the world.

The course itself was very informational and exciting, but chats were not very organized, and too much confusion with the instructor being absent. A comment was made about this being an online class and that we are all adults and self learners, if so, than why is chat mandatory? Self learners would not have to always consult with others, especially since we had to deal with two people sitting in for our instructor. We paid for a course and to learn. We were expected to stand by the syllabus requirements but when we needed someone (instructor) one was not available until later!

Excellent - I would highly recommend the course AND the instructor to other students.
