13. What are the instructor's major strengths as a teacher?

She is very nice and knows her subject very well.

She is a great teacher. She obviously knows the subject matter well, but she is careful to work with students where they are at. She is also funny and makes what we are learning interesting.

She is always so patient and ready to answer any questions I have. She made the class fun and easy to learn. There are never any surprises in the class, meaning that she communicates to us everything we need to know. I really enjoy learning ASL from Crissy.

Good instructor, makes sure students interact amongst each other. Noise discipline is pretty to ensure proper learning of American sign language.

Her ability to use her culture and humor, to make a language in which no one talks, absolutely fun and helpful. Always has a good attitude.

She's very thorough in her teachings. She takes her time in explaining the topic to make sure you understand.

Christine Holmes is an amazing teacher, she knows her subject down to the teeth and is ALWAYS avaible and willing to help students. She loves her students and treats everyone like family. She's one of the best professors at kcc and i recommend her to all my friends.

She made sure that we didn't talk in class and that we signed as much as possible. She loves what she teaches. She's very motivational!

Chrissy's ability to connect with each student.

She knows her subject very well and encourages others to share the same passion that she has.

She's fun, funny, creative, hardworking, friendly, and treats every student with respect. She is able to cover the material in fun, new, and encouraging ways. Also, there were no "dumb" questions. She was more than willing to answer any questions students had.

She is genuinely concerned about her students' success. She uses creative techniques to make learning fun and interesting, including dvds, stories, and games.

Christine creates a positive and fun atmosphere that makes it easier to stay focused and want to learn.

14. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

None.

I feel that the way the class was aranged was horiable. Atleast for test/quiz days move the tables so that everyone could see. Don't assume that everyone can see. When people tell you they couldn't see what you signed after the test was done and weren't sure what you signed was right, maybe sign it again infront of them it's only fair. This is not only for christine, this goes for the other ASL classes that are held in the same room. The lack of space, and the way they aranged the seats were poorly done.

nothing, really. I wish the textbook for this particular course was update, but isn't the instructors fault, but the publisher and perhaps develop the slides to match the book picture for picture. It is sometimes difficult to get the idea of the signed picture with the proper meaning for the words. I have been mistaken a few times and have gotten answers wrong because of it.

15. How did the instructor show concern for students?

She helps them anytime they needed her.

Crissy shows concern by just being herself. She is always willing to understand any problems and treats everyone in class with respect.

Always ask if we have questions.

She was always answering her emails to students, and went very in depth with every lesson.

She would work with students inside and outside of class. She's available via email too.

She made sure we understood what is being taught. She made sure we knew our grades. She is always willing to help clarify our questions.

Chrissy's concern for the students with their learning ability on a new topic is evident. Chrissy show's compassion for each student and is always accommodating time for extra help.

She always corrects her students if they make a mistake and she's always open to listen to her students and their suggestions.

Spent the time to work with each person as needed, and always had question and answer times during class.

She is very approachable and open to any questions her students have. She observes student interaction and makes corrections to help us better learn ASL.

She always asks how people are and takes time after class if people need to talk.

Yes, she is very fun and nice, she helps you with anything you need.

I would recommend Christine Holmes to other students because she doesn't only know her subject well but she also makes it fun and interesting.

Yes. For students who don't pick up on languages very easily, she will make it easy for you. She uses creative approaches, so you never feel like its only a lecture. As you participate, she uses games and questions, which means that you pick up the language without even knowing how much you have learned. Learning is fun, and even though she teases you when you forget a sign, she is more than willing to help you get it right, and helps you to find ways to remember for next class.

Absolutely!! She is very patient, understanding and, willing to help her students learn as much as possible about Deaf culture and ASL.

If you get to know her, she is willing to teach you more signs so that conversations in ASL become more natural and fun. Email her when you need to take quizzes or see her in office hours, because she is a very busy woman. However, she is always approachable and has an excellent sense of humor.

She is a native signer. She has nice personality. She is trying to help students.

Mrs.Crissy is a very creative and thorough teacher and funny too! She also very patient with us newbies and I enjoyed her teaching immensely. I'm lucky I'm already signed up for ASL II. Maybe spending more time in class practing fingerspelling together

Chrissy has a real enthusiasm for teaching. She was very attentive and understanding. There was never a problem with communicating even with a obvious language barrier. She showed wonderful patience with her students.

Crissy is a great teacher that is kind and understanding. She is positive and approachable, which makes me feel comfortable to ask her anything. She is always willing to help her students and answer any questions we have. She makes sure we understand everything she teaches and encourages us to attend Deaf Events to better our signing skills. She also incorporates a lot of fun class activities that allow us to get to know her and ourselves better.

She is a ver fun teacher and makes learning more easy than it should be.

Always prepared. Very approachable and available for help in the classroom. Followed syllabus or at least informed us within a reasonable amount of time if there was a change on the syllabus.

Patience with her students and encouraging us to use Sign Language. When mistakes were made, she would correct it in a positive and productive way, never putting us down.

I would definitely recommend Crissy to other students because I have interacted with other ASL teachers, who have different teaching styles that make me feel uneasy about my signing. All teachers are different, but I strongly recommend Crissy for first time ASL students because of her positive charisma.

Teaching ASL, she really breaks down the concepts and really tries to help us understand. If we have a question or don't understand something, she will slow down or back up to the problem.

She is too nice to the students sometimes and they take advantage of her. Many students talk in class when it is not allowed and disrupt the learning of others. Maybe she can be more strict when it comes to speaking in class and deduct points or something.

19. How did the instructor show concern for students?

Because her signing style and teaching is very different and probably more difficult than my past classes, I have really had a hard time keeping up. I am trying my best and when I don't understand something in class, she is always there for me to ask her after class. She doesn't put me down for not knowing what she was talking about in class because I am still learning so much more than the other students because I feel as though my learning of ASL is a little behind and slower.

She always made sure everyone understood before she went on.

Same as above: Her enthusiasm & positive attitude, her obvious desire that we learn ASL well, her notification of applicable Deaf events for us to attend, her availability via Tokbox & email, her clear signing & her willingness to repeat herself &/or clarify if necessary.

She goes the extra mile to make sure we understand what is being taught. She will review concepts and answer questions even after we have moved to a new subject.

She was very understanding when some of us couldn't make it to class. She would do a quick review of what she taught in the last class just to keep us up to date with learning. She used many examples and made sure we understood signs.

Yes, she is an amazing teacher. She is hard such as homework, etc, but I wish I had her from ASL 102 because I would have learned so much more. I am not saying my teacher I had before was junk, but he was a good teacher for 101, but maybe 102 I needed a bigger push to learning and understanding ASL more.

Yes,because she is very involved with the deaf community and is always inviting her students to events so we can better understand the community and sharpen our ASL.

She's a GREAT teacher! I hope I can be as good of a teacher as she is.

She's one of the best ASL instructors I have had because I understood her & she was always willing to repeat herself or clarify.

I have learned so much from her and am very grateful for her constant words of encouragement!

I wish Professor Holmes was teaching 300 level classes as well because she has motivated me to continue to gain the knowledge of American Sign Language.

18. What changes, if any, do you suggest to the instructor?

There is one project, the traveling project that we did that was changed from a group to individual project. I think if it was kept a group project it would've been better because the presentation needed to include a lot of information. I think they came out alright though even though they were individual presentations...it was just a lot of work!

Needs to be more firm with homework assignments to make sure students keep up and turn them in

Yes I would...I feel that she really does care about her students and she is very knowledgeable about of the subject she teaches.
